Daniel 1:8-16 (NLT). “But Daniel was determined not to defile himself by eating the food and wine given to them by the king. He asked the chief of staff for permission not to eat these unacceptable foods. Now God had given the chief of staff both respect and affection for Daniel. But he responded, “I am afraid of my lord the king, who has ordered that you eat this food and wine. If you become pale and thin compared to the other youths your age, I am afraid the king will have me beheaded.”
Daniel spoke with the attendant who had been appointed by the chief of staff to look after Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. “Please test us for ten days on a diet of vegetables and water,” Daniel said. “At the end of the ten days, see how we look compared to the other young men who are eating the king’s food. Then make your decision in light of what you see.” The attendant agreed to Daniel’s suggestion and tested them for ten days.
At the end of the ten days, Daniel and his three friends looked healthier and better nourished than the young men who had been eating the food assigned by the king. So after that, the attendant fed them only vegetables instead of the food and wine provided for the others.”
“Motivated for Commitment” By In Touch Ministries:
“When our heart's desire is to honor God, He will provide clear direction for the challenges of life.”
“Although Daniel was living as a captive in Babylon, he resolved in his heart not to violate God’s laws. What motivated this young man to live out such a pledge?
Devotion to God. Daniel determined that he would not disobey God and defile himself. Dedication to God means choosing to be set apart to love, worship, and obey only Him. When we keep Jesus Christ as the focus, our heart will overflow with thanksgiving and we’ll be motivated to stand firm.
Clear direction. If Daniel had refused outright to eat the king’s food, he would likely have lost his life. The Lord gave him and his friends the wisdom they needed to develop an alternate plan—and then also provided them with the courage to ask permission to carry it out. Notice that there was no loud demand, argument, or rebellious spirit. Their behavior was marked by trust in God and dependence on Him.
Through daily prayer and meditation upon God’s Word, we can keep our eyes centered on Christ, our ears attuned to His voice, and our heart motivated to obey. We’ll be able to make the same wholehearted commitment that Daniel did. So ask yourself, How eager am I to do God’s will?”

How Gratitude Shapes Our Words and Actions
Gratitude is not just a feeling we hold inside—it should impact every aspect of our lives, from the words we speak to the actions we take.
Gratitude is not just a feeling we hold inside—it should impact every aspect of our lives, from the words we speak to the actions we take. Today, we’ll look at how we can live a life of gratitude that reflects the character of Christ in all we do. In turn, gratitude shapes our words and actions. “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to…

All for the Glory of God
1 The divisions of the sons of Aaron were these. The sons of Aaron: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 2 But Nadab and Abihu died before their father and had no children, so Eleazar and Ithamar became the priests. 3 With the help of Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, David organized them according to the appointed duties in their service. 4 Since more chief men…

The Third Commandment
Preached at mid-week service at Riverview Baptist
The past two weeks we’ve been studying the Ten Commandments. The First Commandment is: Exodus 20:2-3 … I am the Lord thy God … thou shalt have no other gods before Me … God is to be number one in our lives. That’s the First Commandment. The Second Commandment is … Exodus 20:4-5 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness … Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve…

Isaiah 23:9 Destruction Of The World's Pride
The Lord of hosts has purposed it, to bring to dishonor the pride of all glory, to bring into contempt all the honorable of the earth. Isaiah 23:9 People and nations take great pride in what they have built up and accomplished all over the world. Pride can be seen in the individual all the way up to entire nations in dealing with the smallest of things to the greatest of things. The sense of…

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:23‭-‬26‬ ‭(NLT‬‬). “For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this in remembrance of me as often as you drink it.” For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again.”
“Feasting as Wedding Preparation” By In Touch Ministries:
“Communion reminds us that one day we will gather with other believers at a table with Jesus.”
“On the night he was betrayed, Jesus celebrated the feast of Passover with His disciples. During their shared meal, the Lord gave His followers a new interpretation of the Passover meal.
By associating the bread and wine with His body and blood, Jesus revealed Himself to be the true Passover lamb who takes away the sins of the world. Communion, also called the Lord’s Supper, has been observed by believers ever since that evening, when Jesus said, “Do this in remembrance of Me” (1 Cor. 11:24).
As we take communion together, we remember Christ’s body and blood, given for us at the cross. But by partaking in this feast, we also think of the future, when sin and death will have been defeated once and for all. Then, at the wedding feast of the Lamb (Revelation 19:9), we’ll celebrate God’s presence and provision in our daily life while also preparing for eternity with Him.
Whether you feel close to or far from God today, know this: Your Creator loves you and invites you to sit at His table in this life and the life to come. His body and blood are the bread and wine that sustain us each day. His feasting table is a place of welcome, remembrance, and celebration. Will you accept His invitation?”

Psalm 4For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm of David. 1 Answer me when I call to you, my righteous God.Give me relief from my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer.2 How long will you people turn my glory into shame? How long will you love delusions and seek false gods?3 Know that the Lord has set apart his faithful servant for himself; the Lord hears when I call…

“How did you know how to do it?”
“Do what?”
“Stitch me up.”
“It's just sewing.”
“And the IV?”
Jazz’s mouth opens, then closes as she also closes her eyes. He lets her think about the answer, a good enough lie. “A friend had a doctor phase a few years ago. We would try to do a lot of things on fake skin before she moved on to tattooing.”
“Yeah, right.”
“I am telling the truth. Look, I had- I had a weird childhood, so sometimes I had to improvise.”
“No, I believe you,” he says, and he means it. It's so stupid she couldn't make it up. There's also a part of his still light-headed brain that can translate weird childhood and improvise into what it truly means. Maybe she has lied, but not about the thing he thought she would, and it counts for something. The wind on the roof gives him shivers. “Why would you do it?”
“Do what?”
“Help me out. It's none of your business.”
Jazz watches him attentively and there's something about it that makes his muscles tense, body fully ready to jump. She tilts her head just slightly. “We live together,” she points out as if it explains everything. As always, it doesn't. Then she bites her lip. “I- I have never had anyone to catch me if I fall. I guessed you don't have anyone like this either.”
It hits him harder than the fucking bullet last night. “You think I would catch you.”
Jazz smiles and it's full of mischief. Then, like a fucking psycho she is, she leans back out the edge of the building.
He has her arm in an iron grip before he can think about it and pulls so hard, she stumbles forward and falls onto him, laughing, bouncing back like a tennis ball. “Are you fucking insane?”
Jazz just laughs harder, her forehead on Jason's chest, her arm still firmly kept in his hand. “Now we both know you would catch me.”
“You are so full of shit,” he grumbles, but the vibration on his skin manages to calm his heart back to a rational tempo. “You could have died.” It makes her burst out into a fit of giggles. “I got shot last night, you dipshit, I wouldn't be able to jump after you.” Not to mention the lack of proper equipment.
“Sorry I needed an outlet after literally saving your ass.”
Jason closes his eyes, trying to contain the laughter, “I will push you.” The wound was on his inner thigh, not his ass, so she can fuck right off for all he cares.
“I'd like to see you try,” she bites back. “You should have this checked out, by the way. Are you even vaccinated?”
“No need to.”
“I'll drive,” she gets off him, deaf to anything he says, and starts to climb down.
Jason follows. She doesn't even know the address. “Like hell, you will.”
