finally got my hands on the Fangoria Nosferatu issue! wish there had been more new images but the cover is still gorgeous.

Also learned two things about lore/worldbuilding which are important for fic related reasons -

A) Wisburg/Wisborg is on the Baltic coast so...yeah that ship journey is even longer now (I was pretty sure I saw or heard someone mention it was on the Baltic sea before but could not remember for certain)

B) According to Eggers, (ETA: my bad! quote itself is from Craig Lathrop, the production designer - in reference to why they didn't solely rely on real world locations for Orlok's castle) Orlok went to sleep "100 years" before Ellen "reawakened him" - which based on the 'Orlok is from the late 1500s/Orlok is 300 years old' math, means he was vamping it up for around 130-140 years I think? Plenty of time to instill some long lasting fear and local gossip that I'm sure got kicked up quite a bit after Ellen crashed his big nap.

wanna talk abt like keefes anger and the way he handles it 

bc like there are very few instances in the series that keefe is like outwardly angry outside of his own pov. being raised in an emotionally abusive family can fuck you up real bad in the way you handle your emotions, thats without even putting into account the fact that hes an empath. like, that environment where you're constantly forced to push down any negative emotion because you know itll just make things worse for you, it can cause you to let it out in unhealthy ways, often times towards yourself.

i feel like he has so much anger and rage inside of him that he is forced to keep inside and he would rather ruin himself a hundred times over than let it out on someone he loves, and i have no doubt hes terrified of it. hes terrified of himself, of the thoughts and feelings that he has. and im trying really hard to like keep it in cannon and remember whats actually real but i know he has said that he, and i quote "has a major dark side" and that violence and blood doesnt really affect him the way that it does other elvesthe way its supposed to. some people just, are like that, they have dark, bad, violent thoughts, especially mentally ill ppl or victims of abuse. and on keefes side, his dad is a shitty abuser and his mom has killed enough people to be considered a serial killer, i dont think it would be a surprise if he himself had violent thoughts like those, thoughts and feelings that he doesnt act on but theyre still there.

idk what the point of the post is i just have thoughts that i worry are too obvious but then when i say them here ppl like them so ✨anggggsstt✨

Reasons why I really should give the Enchanted AU another shot:

-Priskep/Confined Minds content. 'Nuff said.

-Contrahero as cute little birds in hats

-Stranger's outfits. I have so many ideas for their outfits and they range from big poofy Southern-Belle dresses to sharp 1920's era suits with matching pocket watches to literally just basing something off of my friend's "goth clown" style to them wearing bright rainbow overalls with a matching cowboy hat. I'm giving them all the genderqueer swag.

-Razor, Adversary, Stubborn, and Opportunist in a band called "The Razorblades," which is technically a punk-metal-adjacent band but it's really just "we can't decide what genre we are so we're just making it up as we go along"

-Spectre and Cold being goth siblings, except Spectre is a whimsigoth academic with anxiety issues who just wants to be able to pay rent and Cold is a mall goth who's never been afraid in his life and spends his time purposefully antagonizing cops

-Tower as a Karen-type lawyer who constantly mentions the fact that her mother is the district attorney of New York City, thank you very much

-Witch and Beast's mother-daughter relationship, which is very cute and very sweet---and there's some humor in the fact that Witch has over a dozen plants, all with names and varying levels of toxicity (some of them are carnivorous), and Beast really really really wants a cat

-Witch and Opportunist's bickering-cousin relationship, which has some slight angst to it because Witch didn't know that Opportunist existed until five years ago

-Smitten having a non-binary and queer awakening and slowly learning to let go of the white-knight ideal that they were clinging to while still being their dashing self

-Damsel's queer awakening and self-actualization journey

-Sleeping Briars content (seriously these two fairytale girls are my Roman Empire)

-The songs. Always the songs. I'm not just talking about Damsel singing "That's How You Know," I'm talking about literally getting to write songs for the Razorblades.

10) the tale of peter rabbit (beatrix potter)

ok so this will come up a lot in this list so something you ought to know about me is that i grew up with a cd player at my bedside that played audiobooks for me every night as i fell asleep from ages 3ish-10. anyway this was one of those and i remember it just being so visceral for some reason. i also had (actually have bc i still have a lot of these) jemima puddleduck which didn't make nearly as much of an impression

9) revolting rhymes (roald dahl)

this book explains a lot about both my tastes and sense of humor. it is only now occurring to me how incredibly gay red and snow white are in this and i don't mean like "omg they're lowkey girlfriends" i mean like no this is a lesbian love story to the highest degree. anyway this one has a full animated movie i watched religously that is literally incredible and also free to watch online so i highly highly recommend watching it

8) a bad case of the stripes (david shannon)

don't even feel the need to explain this one bc y'all already KNOW

7) strega nona (tommie depaola)

this was an absolute childhood staple for me and the best reasoning i have is that i really love pasta

6) the fourteen bears, summer and winter (evelyn scott)

this one just has so much nostalgia for me. i remember my mom was really protective of this book (she'd had it forever) to the point that she kept it in her cabinet instead of on my bookshelf. it was such a treat whenever she brought it out. our favorite part wasn't even the book though; a couple pages are dedicated to showing all of the bears' different bedrooms which are all gorgeously themed and decorated and we loved going through and picking all our favorites. and now, our favorite thing to do together is watch house hunters, so this was pretty special

edit: just asked my mom about this, and turns out this book came out in the 70s and then was reprinted only once (that could be inaccurate idk that's just what she told me) and goes for hundreds of dollars online. i now understand why she never let me have it. it's still in her cupboard.

5) where the sidewalk ends (shel silverstein)

i love shel silverstein like nobody's business. i also have light in the attic and falling up (and read several others) but i'm pretty sure this was my first and my favorite. at like 7 i had the entirety of sarah cynthia sylvia stout memorized

4) the snow queen (sarah lowes)

this was a repeat listen for me. as evidenced by like 40% of this list i really loved fairytales and retellings, and this was my favorite amongst those (story wise). i'll forever have a soft spot for this story because of it. disney i will never forgive you

3) the twelve dancing princesses (brigette barrager)

another fairytale entry and while the 12 dancing princesses is a solid story (there's a reason the barbie movie was also one of my favs) the main reason is because this book is GORGEOUS.

also all of the princesses are themed around different flowers and i eat that shit up.

2) the seven silly eaters (mary ann hoberman)

it doesn't feel right to explain this story nor why i've always loved it as much as i do. it's just charmed me since i can remember and it was my favorite bedtime story for all my life. it's #2 because the following is more Iconic and Special to me, but in terms of books i think this is my favorite.

1) madeline (ludwig bemelmans)

i have very vivid memories of my obsession with madeline, more specifically the movie. when i was 5-6, i had to watch this movie every single day for months on end. i particularly remember one day when i was misbehaving at the grocery store and in order to get me to knock it off, my mom threatened to not let me watch it that day (it worked). i credit this as being my first hyperfixation and it's very special to me because of that. my love for madeline has actually resurfaced very recently when i found a copy at the thrift store (don't have my original) and bought it, and then a month or so later i got this adorable madeline ragdoll at a different thrift store. in conclusion i love her
