i actually went wild about the choreo when it came out so i guess this is a good opportunity to re-evaluate now that i’m calm LOL. thoughts below the cut!

to sort of premise my thoughts on the dance, i want to say that i really think fiesta set a new standard for gg dances. most of the time, gg dances that are praised are honestly not tHAT interesting to me… not to say that their work is for naught, but as someone who has seen a lot of dances of different levels, gg dances tend to fall flat in choreography and execution. ggs are usually not taught to use grooves or textures as basics, and companies dont want to spend effort teaching them to do so. then they are restricted to choosing choreographers that tend to make choreographies with “arms and legs”, and barely any torso movement besides basic body rolls or chest rolls. on top of that, they are usually given restricted outfits that make the dancing even more underwhelming for me and then i just prefer bgs for dance :( to be honest, even recent gg dances that people have been wowed at have not really been… that interesting for me either because of execution or choreography or both, but i dont want to mention them because i dont want to disregard the work of any idols! i respect them all and hope you will just take my word for it haha

i just watched the dance practice again and honestly the first thing that i think of is that the choreographers really put a lot of time and effort into this. usually to keep things dynamic, i try to change formations every 8-16 counts in a competitive set. this isnt usually something you see in kpop, but the choreographers had a lot of formation changes going on every 8 counts, and most of them werent just simple center or window changes… very nice. the use of stage was nice as well, and varying the number of members on stage at once is a good way to keep things dynamic. there are also points in the choreography that match the lyrics with movements that would normally be cheesy, but it ended up not being cheesy because the formations were so nice e.g. yujin’s first line using a waking up gesture, but having the other girls do level changes and fan their arms out… i enjoy that a lot

another thing i want to comment on about the choreography that is kind of rare to see in gg dances is the use of textures and how the musicality changes. to understand this, the intro is a good example. if you really listen to the music and match it with the choreography, you can tell that the choreographers try to follow a different instrument every 4-8 counts, and this is something i really value and look for as a choreographer. the choreography for fiesta isn’t just a simple one that follows an 8 count strictly (e.g. one that would probably look fine to any song as long as you follow the beat), and i appreciate that a lot

at the same time, izone gets equal credit, because theyre able to see it and interpret the choreography in relation to the music, showing that they have understanding and appreciation of textures and musicality in dance. i think this can be attributed to chaeyeon eunbi and yena and this is an asset in making a dance performance interesting

the only feedback i have about the choreography is that the formations are usually centered and the girls are usually brought up one by one either by walking up or being hidden behind a member that goes down when it is their part. it would be a lot more interesting if the attention was moved around with more variety, like having the attention move from one side of the stage to another. when done well this could be very interesting. the only place i see this happen is minju’s part at the beginning of the bridge

moving away from choreography, and before i talk about the girls, i just want to mention that i feel the stylists are very mindful about izone’s mobility while dancing this comeback. the outfits are generally easy to move in, and the part that stands out to me the most is the shoes. in the comeback show, they were wearing boots, which are easier to dance in than other shoes that ggs usually wear. in the other stages where the stylists have them wear heels, those are the best heels you can wear for dancing lol (boot heels). a lot of dancers i know who have to dance in heels use boot heels because those are the most comfortable to dance in, and give proper ankle support to keep you safe. i also found that the outfits from the comeback show (although many people thought they werent flattering for the girls individually) worked really well with the dance, like when the camerawork showed an arial view

ok now for izone

i think for this comeback, my favourite member to watch is yena. this choreography has a lot more musical complexity this time around, and i think this is yenas greatest strength. to kind of show what i mean, i watch yenas fancam and see how well you can hear the music from her movements, and then watch another member, and it just doesnt match the same. (but also i have a weird thing where i can basically “hear” when someone moves, so it might be a personal thing lol. try it out anyway!). 

another person i notice is eunbi. normally the choreography and concept is softer or cuter, so eunbi hasnt really been able to show off her strength, but there are parts in this choreo that let eunbi really go off and it feels like she literally slaps me in the face when she hits lol. good example of this is in the comeback show at her last part… that hip hit… i actually felt like she punched me lol… thats when i realized that eunbi could beat me up in an instant she is so strong lol…

other things i noticed… hitomi sakura and nako’s musicality has improved, yujin is learning to dance as a tall person (match your levels with shorter people… it’s a skill LOL), hyewon and nako are learning to put more strength in their movements (my heart flipped when i saw), and izone is really unified when they are in good condition. i say good condition because idk about you, but in the first week of their performances, watching them made me feel kind of uneasy. i could feel their anxiousness from the way they moved and from the looks in their eyes and i could eunbi being dizzy and losing balance and it made me sad… esp compared to comeback show. in comeback show, you can see that they have the same fire in their eyes, that they really are performing as one, and thats honestly what you want to aim for when you are dancing as a group

but for the show, izone really hit different… the fire was coming back and i watched it like ten times… i think the best part is seeing the fire in the eyes of members you dont really see it from, like minju and nako. not to say that they dont perform well because this isnt what i mean at all, but their intensity and focus made me feel their genuine effort on stage and i loved it. theres just a Look that dancers have when their condition is good and they’re performing better than usual. and there’s just this Vibe that a team gives off when things are going Right. it’s really hard to explain because it’s not really something you practice, but it’s just when your hearts match and everyone is on the same page and when you dance with your team the energy you share with your team and the energy you have on the stage is literally TANGIBLE. there is really no other way i can find to explain it, and im honestly normally a super sciency person… but this is just something i will never be able to explain… 

the only thing about that performance was that they performed with such energy and intensity that they kind of lost it after the bridge LOL. there are times in choreographies when you’re really tired and theres a resting point and ur adrenaline dies down a bit and ur like shit im tired LOL. and you can kind of see that happen… yena seems tired, and then the formation kind of gets messy,,, but it’s understandable because that jumping is tiring looool

if i had to give izone some constructive feedback:

the pathing for some of the arms in certain parts of the choreo are not the same, so it gets a little messy and loses effect. i know this is something they can fix if they know how to though, since there are other arm parts that are very clean

the timing for some of the canons need to be cleaned up.. i understand this is very hard though. the choreographers gave them pretty quickly timed canons that dont really follow any part of the music. this is generally really hard on the people in the middle vs. the people at the beginning and end who have it easier knowing exactly when to start and stop their movement (google dance canon if you dont know what im talking about)

it would be best if izone learned to pace themselves throughout the performance while keeping the focus and intensity. e.g. if youre going hard all the time, youll run out of energy real quick, so usually when dancers perform they kind of gauge when they put in 80% effort vs 110%, so the performance can have ups and down, and they wont get tired that much. this is honestly hard though and im still working on it hehe i get excited really easily and then halfway im wheezing like holy shit i shoulda calmed down LOL

to make things cleaner, it would be best if some members adjusted their height more e.g. wonyoung esp when they are near nako LOL it’s tough but yea it’s a skill… i got yelled at for like 6 months before i learned so

some formations need to be adjusted e.g. the last one, yuri and hitomi need to move out a bit to adjust to the formation change for the end formation. sakura is actually quite attentive and readjusts her formation mid movement to fix the line - this just needs to happen on the other side now

some random things i noticed:

yena has clean hands and arms and i appreciate this

their facial expressions change collectively at some parts e.g. minju’s first part, they all start smiling and their dance gets light and it’s cute. also during yenas rap in so curious they collectively get more serious and i like that uwu

if chaewon stomps on me one more time in the beginning ill probably cry 

i really like the crossing behind wonyoung with their arms up (at the beginning) that goes into the hits (yena hits HARD) and then the hair flip canon (this is always so good omg)

my dance friend acknowledged this choreo, like its good can confirm

that leg part where they go down in the chorus is hard lol i was talking to my dance friend like yea if i had to do that in a set id quit like i cant man LOL

adhd time management practice

Hey so how do you keep track of the shit that you need to do in the next few days?  Luck?  Zoning out and stressing that you’re falling further behind? A series of task management tools designed for neurotypicals that only add “paperwork” to the overhead of getting your shit done?  (You know the ones - 800 customization options, complex scheduling and rulesystems, complete disconnect from any other computer systems you log into at work, 22 step process to get from “I need to do a thing” to “The computer will make me acknowledge that the thing was planned”)

if you’re ADHD like me and especially if like me you have issues with time blindness or won’t ever finish any-fucking-thing without a deadline attached, check this shit out. Ages ago when I was helpdesk our scheduling system worked kinda like this and I’ve been missing it bad since then.

Check out this fuckin’ drag and drop( task -> calendar ) app: TrevorAI

Make a new task, typing only as much as you need to remember what it was you needed to do.  “Take out the trash”, or “Call Dr. P about the wrist thing”, whatever.  Hashtag it if you really want organization.

Take that new task, and drag it onto your calendar. Repeat until you’ve got like... a day and a half to two days of work scheduled out.*

As the day goes on, either set aside the task for later (by creating a new task to be scheduled later), or finish the job and move other tasks to accommodate.

When you finish, resize the task on your calendar so it matches how much time you actually spent.

Later on: look back and see how many tasks you checked off.

* this is meant for short-term day-to-day. Scheduling out too far makes it harder to adjust and adds stress

Tips

These are small tasks: if it’s gonna be more than an hour, two tops - it’s a project.  Tasks are a single action or repeated action.  Projects you keep separate but pre-plan by breaking them into smaller tasks in a text file/email/whatever document storage you’re using.  When you run low on tasks, pull the next few in from your in-progress projects.  

Example: catching up on yardwork would be a project. A task might be ��pull weeds in back rock garden’, or ‘mow back yard’.

Example 2: Update car registration might be “print registration form and fill out”, “get registration forms, fees, IDs in backpack”, “drop off at DMV”

When setting it up, i recommend setting the reminder time to “at time of event” so your upcoming task doesn’t intrude into your current task’s space.

If you prioritize at all, make prioritizing into its own task. In the moment, it has to be “I have time to schedule, I will drop the first item on the list onto my calendar.” Honestly you might get solid results just by going “top of the list goes to the next available calendar slot that will fit it”. No decision here, just pattern.

What do you get out of it?

A low friction task management system. Type like 4 words, drag to calendar.  You can schedule an entire day in 5 minutes and adjusting on the fly doesn’t feel like a task in and of itself.

Well, microdeadlines are fucking phenomenal for minimizing my executive dysfunction.  They’re also hilariously low-key.  Like, what better way to confront deadline anxiety by having a few no-consequence ones each week? Like, what happens if any random task gets completed half an hour later than you planned? Honestly: you planned it for once so it probably got done faster than usual

Which, another great point: The looking-back especially shows you how much you got done in a given day.  And after a while it’s probably significantly more than you think.  Especially if you’re ADHD and got the usual “lazy\spacey\unreliable” bullshit from people who should have been better at loving you.

Why does it work?

I’m not a sciency type so this is me pulling an idea out of my ass and subsequently yeeting it the fuck into the wind: It meshes well with my ADHD brain. it plays to our strengths.

I’m drawn heavily towards patterns, especially habits.  This gives “plan your day” a distinct pattern

The low effort required, combined with the rote pattern makes it feel more like part of the tasks you’re doing rather than its own task, it doesn’t trip off my executive dysfunction activation threshold. (You know: too much to do, must shut down. can’t do anything now)

Same with the weird memory recall issues I have. (I’m done with this thing, it no longer exists) If you don’t finish something in the time you have, you create a new task (remember, you need to credit yourself for the work you’ve done so far) to complete the first. And that can happen before you move on and the context drops.

Like “zero-based budgeting” it intrinsically acknowledges that the reality is more important than the plan.. It also establishes a pattern that makes it easier to habituate your own version of healthy responses to disruptions of plans in low-impact, low-stress ways.

Speaking of: also great low-key practice for decision-making, time estimating, all that jazz.(especially since the deliberately minimal prioritization system makes it as easy as “what is the next timeslot available?”)

Looking back at a full week is some hella satisfying dopamine rush especially since you probably spent a total of half an hour that week managing your schedule.  (and probably even less once you get used to it)

idk, I just think tools like this fit the patterns that work well for us ADHD folk better than a lot of more typical time management apps/systems.

Again, important note: I’m full of shit, but I do hope I’m right.

4.  My favorite development of 1146. 1146: (when Killer T goes on a long detailed smug speech about why 3803 is going to die painfully while doing her job and she's now terrified) eh, he's probably. Anyway I got a job to do so let's go. Don't slow me down. -_- (Later when Killer T makes the blunt observation she did her job right after being incompetent. 3803 can't hear him) 1146: Hey! Don't you dare speak about her like that! She's the goddess rocking my world! Everyone needs to love her now. =D

5.  For some reason I can imagine, after being in a relationship after awhile, 1146 suddenly going from nervous awkward duck when being affectionate and letting 3803 make all the moves to suddenly becoming really forward and bold. He suddenly wakes up with confidence and before 3803 utters a hello he pulls her into his lap like a boss and has a intense makes out session with her. She's so surprised that for once she turns into the flustered blushy one as she goes limp in his arms while he teases her

6. 1146 being the grumpy one among his friends is always funny because on the inside he's so soft and happy. XD For some reason he gets into so many weird situations and because he's more socially awkward he just -_- everything in his sassy grump galore. He's not as easygoing or peacefully resigned to the chaos as 3803 has chosen to become. XD

Okay, if I’m being honest, I can see it in two ways: 1) the author might stretch their development all she wants, since it’s one of the aspects that keep people hooked on the manga (besides the cool concept, sciency stuff and such). So I think it's safe to say that if they're becoming a thing, it'll happen toward the end of the manga, and idk how much that'd take. Since it's got a periodic base, it could go on forever as long as diseases exist lol. And 2) analyzing their current state (I love analyzing ships oh my god), they're still pretty green imo. As you said, they just idle talk most of the time, and don't get in too deep. I also see 1146 being the one stepping up things, otherwise I'd call it a day lmao, 3803 doesn't look like she's gonna do something anytime soon. NEUTROPHIL, SIR WAKE UP!

But still I do wonder if independent 3803 might get irritated at him smothering her or wonder how much he really believes in her like he says he does.- HMMMM that's really interesting *steeple hands*. I think this new side of her might cause her to get mad at him if he keeps acting like a nanny. That is, if she finds out bc she has no clear idea about that. aero/astro - small department full of space nerds, most of them are in SSI, drones, i personally consider them very brainy and if i were better at engineering i would be aero/astro cuz i think it’s the next frontier. there should definitely be more women in it for sure

bioe - my ex was bioe, they’re a bunch of nerds but they have good enough hearts. they care about curing diseases and shit

CS - oh boy. ohhhhhh boy. here we fuckin go. honestly CS is barely even a sterotype at stanford cuz its such a dominant culture…..the people who decide what stereotypes even are, are probably CS. it’s gotten to the point where if i meet someone and they aren’t CS it’s worth noting. it’s gotten to the point where, in my psych/literature/communications/education classes, i expect the other people to be CS. i have so many Opinions on CS Boys because CS Boys are such!!!!a!!!type!!!! (and different from just, a boy who does CS). they worship the trinity of google, facebook, and microsoft. their junior summer internship is at least one of these. they buy into all silicon valley startup culture and they love elon musk and talk about venture capital when its really not welcome. they love talking about how much work they have and how little they sleep. all INTJs. probably virgos. there is also a subgenre of CS boy who didnt come into stanford wanting to do CS and ended up switching because its easier to be a CS Boy at stanford. they criticize the culture all the time. to this you can say, “it’s all right, craig, i know you just want to make money.”

CME - people major in this when they dont love themselves

design - i personally think this major is fuckin cool and considered it before i realized physics was a pre-req. the d school is thought to be d for douchey though because their whole shtick is so ~ideate~ ~prototype~ ~We Are Quirky and Put Post-Its On Walls~ but i dug it as a frosh. they can be kinda condescending, but theyre by far the most interdisciplinary dept in the engineering major (although its also full of white men who think theyre hot shit cuz they can use photoshop)

EE - again for people who lack self love, its supposed to be so fuckin hard

MS&E - white frat boys who glorify jordan belfort

ME - similar to design. live at the PRL. stay up till ungodly hours carving wood. somehow this is enjoyable. also white male heavy

education - if i could do stanford over i would major in this. usually very diverse, woke, often come from underprivileged backgrounds so they want to make it better for other people and reach communities that arent currently benefited (unlike silicon valley or wall street :) ) i respect them because they do what they love and not to make $ although if educational engineering were a thing im certain people would jump ship. it’s also not in the humanities dept so i feel like theyre Above the stanford hegemony and i love that

earthsys - i considered a minor in this. usually sweet, earth-friendly people. white but woke. possibly queer. granola loving hippies and maybe some frathletes who want an “easy” major but not sure (im not shitting on easy majors. i have one. love ‘em)

generally i like girls in any of the engineering depts because they are dealing with sexism and doing it. the boys are oftentimes extremely self-congratulatory and will usually say something dumb about the humanities. even the girls will hit you with the “oh i wish i could study that!” about any non-engineering discipline, and it’s implied that what they’re really saying is “but i care about my future too much!”

AAAS/chicanx studies/asian-american studies/CSRE - woke poc who use lots of buzzwords and say things like folx

art - the people who major in art are usually more quiet than you’d think. we have an Artsy Type at stanf that are kind of extra (theta chi/EBF types, also very woke QPOC) but i dont think theyre art majors for the most part. i barely know any actual art Majors. lots of engineers just do art on the side

bio - i love bio majors because they are sciency but also get shit on by engineers so we’re in solidarity. they are sweet and study all the time and just wanna make the world a better place. there’s also the pre-med kind of bio who i would hate if i were also pre med but since im not i just kind of admire and fear them

chem - i like chem people much more than i thought i would. again a very small major and they just live in lab and have varied non chem interests. this year i accidentally became friends with like 6 people from the chem fraternity and i was surprised how much i liked them

complit/english - i was this major! english in creative writing are usually chill, interesting people. complit and english in literature…….it’s a shakespeare circlejerk and they hit you with the Discourse. overly educated white people. avoid the boys specifically but the girls can also be incredibly self-satisfied. maybe 50/50. but if you take a creative writing class instead of a lit class, the CW kids are usually awesome

taps - our drama department. they’re nice, but extra and intimidating. (also stanford theater is…..okay….not really as good as they seem to think it is yikes that was mean but) however, like with english, take an introductory class and you’ll meet very cool non-taps majors.

econ - oftentimes wonderful people! outside of class that is

femgen - same people as the AAAS/CSRE crowd except whiter. queer girls with undercuts. upperclassmen are intimidating to many. everyone shares their opinion even when its not warranted. my honors is in this

film studies - this was almost my minor and if i werent CW i might have doubled in film and comm! i dont know any film majors but if they arent a cole sprouse im sure theyre fine (they are probably a cole sprouse)

german/italian/french/spanish language or studies - spot the person who studied abroad!

history - like english, can be cool, more likely pretentious

humbio - the other premeds! actually humbio gets shit on alllll the time for being easy or having a fluff major, bio majors think they’re soft. thus, i like them. their course catalog is awesome and its a huge major but all the scary pre meds are straight up bio and humbios are softer but in a good way its a lot of sweet girls

intl relations - one of my favorite majors. usually very down to earth, the best of the IR/poli-sci/pub-po trinity. however, they can also be self-congratulatory for being So Woke and also they love to educate you when You Didn’t Ask

linguistics - weird, diverse people. very small major. similar to anthro, my old major. i love small majors they always have cute dinners together

MCS - a hard fuckin major. not as “Look How Smart I Am” as a bad CS. mostly quiet and stay in and study their ass off

math - love to wax poetic about the beauty of math. fun when drunk. not when sober

philosophy/MTL/classics - avoid. classics can be okay if it overlaps with archaeology because theyre just a bunch of nerds and they get really excited and its cute. phil majors would rather just educate you about how free will is fake and youre like tim can you please just get out of the way we’re in the dining hall and you’re blocking the cornbread

physics - Avoid. they think all other sciences are lesser. women and POC are ok

poli-sci - hit or miss. generally pretty friendly. very talkative. fun to talk to about Not Politics

psych - the best major hehe. generally liberal and woke and often queer. however, non-psych people in psych classes can be a nightmare (unlike english, taps, etc) and problematic as fuck. also sometimes psych majors are extra (exhibit a: me)

pub policy - probably in student government. im biased against it, but go in with hesitation. student government is by and large not as effective as they seem to think (however, a “woke” person in pub po might be cool because they will campaign for sexual assault awareness and economic diversity and good stuff)

STS - ohhhhh man. probably the major that gets most shit on at stanford. i think engineers think it’s fake. (humbio, design, and STS get shit on the most i’d say, because they are interdisciplinary STEM majors, so engineers think that they’re for people who arent smart enough to do hard majors. whereas with english or IR, engineers know they couldnt do it because they havent written an essay since 2009, so they offer grudging respect) a frathlete major. i personally like it because i dig interdisciplinary shit, but i don’t dig frat boys or athletes so i avoid. some of their courses are great but it does seem kind of scrapped together as a major and i dont know how people outside of stan see it

sociology - a small major, seems cool. stigmatized but not by stanford because stanford students dont know it exists. “dont you mean psychology?” no

urban studies - skaters? who knows. i respect them tho. i think they care about….like….architecture? and city development? its a very niche thing and i feel like it’s pretty hip n happening

The most upsetting thing about FMA 03 was the movie and the missed opportunity.

They had the chance to give Ed n Al their happy ending, to be able to live together with their friends and family.

Instead they shove Ed back to the parallel world but oh Al came with him this time so it's okay.

Why? Why? Do that to could have just as easily had Ed ready to sacrifice himself and then have like some anime movie only character stop him/ jump in in his place maybe because Ed has family and lots of people to would miss him if he was gone but X person doesn't or something.

Hell idk have Alt.Al somehow pull some crazy sciency thing - with unfortunate consequence of doing said thing will kill him but he doesn't care- does thing while Ed n Al use their Alchemy on the other side and are able to close the portal. Allowing them to live happily in their world with all their friends.

Like when I found the movie I had hope may be it would rectify how the anime ended - With Ed finally being able to reunite with everyone and stay there but nah.

Justice for that ? and so she uses it and just. wrecks fucking havoc. it has a different effect on bea than it did on gundren, because like. deep down she knows she doesn’t want this ? she doesn’t want to hurt these people or this city and there has to be a better way and she wants it to stop ( basically like sloane from the petals to the metal arc hgnjg ) but she can’t…. rly stop herself so this town, phandalin, is just. destroyed and it’s bea’s fault ? & like. she dies. of course she dies. the boys try to help as much as they can and they try to reel her in and stop her but the power of the relic is just,,,,, too much hnjfjnj y ikes !
