The forever unfinished wip of my Tav. His name is Hors and he's a wild magic sorc multi classed with druid. Also he's romancing Gale cause they're both unhinged in different ways.
Head canons under cut :>
In the Grove, Hors accidentally kicked the squirrel. Gale saw this, and the regret and anguish that followed suit. Hors then proceeded to force Gale to commune with the animals as a way to reclaim his unity with nature, and the wizard had to go along lest the druid become hysterical again.
They never talk about it again after that but hey, they did weave stuff.
Also Hors probably always smells like leaves all the time. Newly bathed? Leaves. Sweaty and muddy? Leaves. No one knows how he does it, neither does he.
Hors has no idea how old he is because he's been living in solitude in the forest for so long. His companions are ordinarily forest creatures — one day, a bear craved salmon and he couldn't catch one for the life of him so he set out to Baldur's gate to get one but ended up getting caught by the Nautiloid instead ☠️
Hors is a solitary druid not by choice. He was raised by a flock of birds who gave him fruit like he was their hatchling.
Hors lacks diplomacy skills, and likes hitting things. He is not peaceful at all. He is an agent of chaos.
Hors has the uncanny ability to tell if something is a shape shifter or not as he is very in tune with nature. He constantly asks dumb questions when met with one. "Where'd you put the druid? Can you still give me the love reading?"
Hors pulls juvenile pranks on the rest of the camp. By juvenile I mean some primal shit. He leaves hidden fishes everywhere and laughs when asked about it or he leaves some cucumber behind camp members hoping it would startle them.
Gale had been startled once by a planted fish staring right at him as he turned in his sleep. Hors never let him forget.
Hors can't read, so he makes Gale read out loud for him. At first it was an annoyance to the wizard but it soon became a night time routine. They both can't rest well now without reading.
Hors loves puzzles but he takes sooo long to solve them and refuses to ask anyone for help. One time, they were stuck in the Myconid village for hours when Omeluum decided to gift Hors some sort of puzzle trinket after the whole mushroom ordeal. He covered his ears when Gale would try to tell him what to do and Omeluum just....watched the whole time. Shadowheart got tired of waiting and she probably finished three quests.

putting this here more for myself than anything. i wanna be able to look back at it in a year and see how its changed. explanations for each section under the cut
ship i loved at first sight: tara x piper. i don't know what the ship name is. taper? pira? pira seems nicer lol. anyway, tara used to be my favourite brawler (and is still up there in my top 5) and i think the first time i saw tara x piper fanart was on reddit. it was by Xpyray and i swear to god ive never fallen in love with a ship faster. their art is so fucking good and they dont rlly draw brawl stuff anymore but i still follow them cuz their art is so so so pretty (please go follow them if youre reading this). anyway so yeah thats how tara x piper became my fav ship.
ships i initially didn't like: rico x piper, shelly x colt imma be fr at the start i didn't really Get these ships. but after watching some of the official animations and learning more of the lore, i started to appreciate these ships more. i don't love them or anything but they can be cute
ships i don't like anymore: sandy x nita, leon x jessie, sandy x leon there is no real reason for this other than the fact that i simply stopped liking them as i grew up. as i was making this i realised that when i was younger i used to like the ships with the kids/teens more, but now i'm 17 and i'm just not interested in them anymore. i guess thats what happens when you grow up lol. these ships are still cute, but i just don't engage with them anymore
favourite popular ships: mandy x chester, fang x buster so a bit of background, i actually quit brawl stars for a while, i think after the gale brawl pass. i dont really remember why, but its probably because i just got bored of the game lol. i think that also played into why i'm no longer interested in the same ships as before. anyway, i came back this year during the bizarre circus brawl pass and accidentally fell in love with these two ships. honestly, i'm not even entirely sure why i fell in love with these two ships in particular. chester definitely caught my eye when i came back to the game because a) i love clowns b) i love a good troll c) i love the random XD energy chester has and d) he has super interesting & fun game mechanics. i have no interest in mandy really but then i saw One suggestive mandy x chester fanart that went hard af and suddenly i was on board lmao. on the other hand fang and buster were two characters that i took some time to fall in love with, but now they're my favourites lol it's so strange. i really don't know how it happened.
favourite rarepair: amber x maisie i was looking at a diagram of all the trios so far because i was brainstorming ideas for who to include in a fanfic and as i was looking at it, suddenly it Clicked in my mind that amber x maisie would go hard af. like think about it. overconfident fire entertainer who gets so swept up in performances that she forgets about safety x safety coordinator with a fire extinguisher for an arm who secretly likes being in dangerous situations? come on!!!! im surprised more people havent thought of this pairing cuz as soon as it clicked for me it seemed like such an obvious pairing to do. but then again they've never interacted in any animation/promo material/etc so i guess it's not a pair people would just think of without prompting. but it's so fucking good!!!! more people need to get in on this ship.
controversial ship: none here's the thing. i don't know any controversial ships that i can see myself shipping. the most controversial one i know is probably edgar x colette but i see them as siblings so i don't ship it nor do i engage with fanart of them. edgar and colette ships in general are probably controversial seeing as both of them don't have canon ages and it's vague enough that people are always talking about whether they're adults or minors. but i personally see both of them as older teens so i don't ship them with anyone. (to me, they're too old to hang out with the kid brawlers but also too young to hang out with the adult brawlers. it's weird because there's no other brawlers where i see them as teens, so in my mind edgar and colette both have 0 shipping potential)
ships i want to become canon the most: amber x maisie, fang x buster they're my current favourite ships. what else to say.
comfort ship: fang x buster i think about them All the Fucking Time. lowkey i started to project on fang a bit just cuz i like him so much. i don't even know why or how i started liking him this much but he's my favourite brawler now and it's horrible. i think the seal in the coffin was @/giveittomegay's fanart of them. THEY'RE SO FUCKING CUTE. like omfg. confident, charismatic chinese immigrant who just arrived at starr park x introverted insecure white guy who doesn't know how to approach others. slowburn where they become closer through working at the cinema and buster realises he's fallen in love basically immediately but fang hasn't realised his own sexuality (has had crushes on girls before so always assumed he was straight) and doesn't realise he's in love with buster until maisie straight up tells him. fang's confidence means he jokingly flirts with buster all the time because he thinks it's funny to tease the guy and make him flustered but doesn't realise buster gets flustered because he likes fang. fang is fucking stupid. also, i think using fang x shelly here as a conflict plot point would be so good. like, fang seeing a pretty girl and approaching her, flirting with her, etc. i like to think fang is dense as fuck and would genuinely believe he's in love with shelly despite buster occupying 90% of his thoughts because his thought process would be something along the lines of "oh, i just think about him a lot cuz he's my best friend, i'm sure this is all regular, normal bff things". and buster just fucking dying inside but not saying anything because he thinks it's none of his business and he shouldn't interfere in fang's love life. MAISIE WATCHING ALL THIS HAPPEN AND WANTING TO MURDER BOTH OF THEM FOR BEING SO DENSE. like ohhhhhh my god there is so much potential here it's fucking insane. side note: fang doesn't have anything against gay people. i like to think maisie x amber comes way before fang x buster, so fang knows gay people exist and like he is perfectly fine and comfortable being around them, he's just so stupidly dense that he doesn't realise HE is gay (or more specifically bi). he also assumes buster is straight because default sexuality and whenever fang makes jokes based on this assumption buster never corrects him. because buster is a pussy. god. i want to write this fanfic so bad but i'm so fucking bad at writing dialogue it's insane.
ships that deserve more attention: amber x maisie, brock x bibi, barley x bull, max x janet LET ME COOK HERE OKAY. amber x maisie i already explained above. brock x bibi (i call them bibrock) is because it's noted in bibi's bio that she's secretly a huge nerd and i think it would be super cute for her to have a bf who she can indulge in nerdy and geeky shit with. to me they're both massive comic book fans who become close by playing all the superhero video games together before branching out to other games. they're console gamers btw and they get SUPER competitive whenever they're playing against each other. but they also do play coop games where they work together. usually brock is the one who does a lot of theorycrafting and tries to minmax his grind so he can get all the resources in the most optimal and time efficient way possible, whereas bibi prefers just going into fights and wrecking havoc lol. barley x bull is because they're both restaurant owners/servers (barley has his bar, bull has his diner) and i think they would bond over shitty customers and interesting food/drink recipes. they're both also familiar with having fights break out in their establishment and are fully capable of shutting fights down, even if it means getting their hands dirty. they think they're on opposite ends of the spectrum but they're actually more similar than they realise. for sure a very slowburn romance (especially because i think bull would be denial about liking a fucking robot lmfao) max x janet is because they're both celebrity entertainers. yeah, that's it. no but seriously i see max as someone who puts up an outgoing persona in public and is generally a very hyper, high energy person but at the same time, she tends to keep people at a distance because she's scared of intimacy. before janet, her closest friends are surge and meg. surge kind of Knows something is up with her because every time he tried to ask about her past she clammed up and gave noncommittal responses. he worries about her but doesn't know what to do about it so he just tries to make her happy in the present. meg is a kid so she doesn't realise anything is wrong lol. hanging out with meg and surge makes max happy and she considers them family, but she still has a wall up around her true self. janet is the one who is finally able to help max come out of her shell and address her past trauma. it also helps that max thinks janet is very pretty and desperately wants to kiss her. this is canon btw don't question me.
first otp: tara x piper | current otp: fang x buster i basically said all i have to say about these ships so yeah. that's it.

Misc. Ask compilation
These aren't all of the asks I want to reply to, just some that I can answer relatively quickly to clean the ol' inbox out before things get out of hand. Thanks for your patience!
HAHAHA THANK YOU FOR PERUSING AROUND and for enjoying my work! I had a... Weird Gale experience my first playthrough which led to his characterization being what it is in my comics. Here's the beat-by-beat of all the shenanigans: https://meanbossart.tumblr.com/post/740827466716807168/alright-i-am-like-90-sure-there-is-one-line-in-a
And here's just some of my personal thoughts on him! https://meanbossart.tumblr.com/post/736193145686114305/can-you-tell-me-more-about-how-you-would-make-gale
I would be lying if I said I'm not conflicted to know my style still bears some remnants of my edgy teen roots (not your fault not noticing it though, you aren't the first and won't be the last) BUT... That comic did mean a lot to me as a youth, so I guess I should be proud 🤷 and honestly it is a little cool that such a thing would survive for so long in what I do, crazy how that works.
LMAO, re: the bottom/top debacle, I was honestly so surprised to see people react to it like it's something novel. If I ever expected to get any push back on the matter, I thought it would be from people assuming DU drow was the top and taking issue with how violent and big he is (and yknow, some people are weirdly protective of Astarion as if he isn't a sneaky murder machine rippling with lean muscle)
Very disheartening to see that mindset still so alive and well among young people, but I guess it just means I gotta draw DU drow throwing more back and Astarion drooling over more ass until the stereotype is forcefully banished out of people's minds!
(more asks below the cut)
"Sleeper agent activation phrase" absolutely took me out, Thank you so much LOL
YEAH I got it pretty late though, Astarion had already told my durge that he was a vampire of his own accord (and the response was, of course, "no duh") I forgot wheter this happened before or after the first romance scene triggered, but I think after.
Since this was after DU drow decided he was gonna fuck him out of pure contrarian spite and was shamelessly laying it extremely thick, He happilly let Astarion drink his blood. Hell, he was probably a little Too Eager - the guy likes pain and he likes letting people he trusts do with his body whatever they will, and while he didn't yet trust Astarion at that point, that event might've very well reminded him of something from his past that planted a seed which would eventually grow into his genuine affection for the guy.
Ah, he definitely got a half-chub as it happened too. I'm sure Astarion noticed it and just walked off rolling his eyes and thinking "eugh of course" lmao.
Hello!!!
Oh man, I grew up fascinated with horror things. I remember from a very young age just looking at the covers and backs of horror movies at the film-rental even though I wasn't allowed to watch them. I was also easily scared but I sought those things out anyway - I think i just enjoyed the visceral reactions it drew out of me and was always curious about most things taboo.
When I got access to the internet that just opened a (very unfortunate) door to all things vile and awful like it did for so many people at that age in time. Though my tastes have changed a lot since then (Less August Underground, more The Devils kind of guy nowadays) my stories and art are just always going to fall into a horror-y category because I just... Don't think there's many better ways to showcase the human experience and emotional range without many of the elements native to the genre, and I'm all about that.
Thank you for your question and your sweet words, have a good week yourself!
I did a little write-up about that over here! https://meanbossart.tumblr.com/post/742508493562593280/i-dont-have-a-particular-question-in-mind-sorry
That's the result of a scene that happens relatively early in the story I'm writing ("A Novel Experience" on Ao3).
{SPOILERS} DU drow accidentally passes out on a blade which puts a relatively deep gash on his hip. Meanwhile, Astarion is weakened and starved after certain events that transpired the prior night. They have a private exchange both in a somewhat hazy-state of mind and Astarion ends up prodding and prying at his wound while feeding, so it's a laceration and bite mark that just scarred over badly.
Elves apparently don't grow body hair so never LOL guess they'll just have to slip&slide up on each other for heat

My Dear Idiot~
It was another lovely morning in the camp. Gale was making breakfast for everyone in their Group while the others were either packing up or freshening up. For Astarion it was the latter. he may not be able to see his reflection but he knows how to draw attention to himself. it can be good or bad. good for his look but bad for his snarky remarks or attitude. Soon Astarion's eyes land on Egon, his half-elf companion. when he first met him he wanted to see the man dead assuming he was working with those mindflayers having a knife to the poor man's throat. Turns out he didn't have to spill their innards. Astarion saw that Egon was somewhat like him with trust issues. But they slowly both grew on each other. But damn was this man greedy at times. Astarion scoffed at the memory. they found a hidden cave behind some carefully crafted rubble to look normal, but Egon wanted to go in, and he hated it because he used to enter without knowing if they were walking into a trap or if everyone was downright tired. "Why in the hells are we doing this now we can rest here and then check it out in the morning Egon" Astarion would complain standing by the entrance with his arms crossed. Egon was annoyed but he smiled because he wanted to get his hands on any rare trinkets or gold he could get his hands on. "well I'm not tired Astarion i want to get everything now so that way we can have something to sell or keep for ourselves to use. AND, what if someone else gets it before us?" Egon stated Astarion growls "You are so bloody stubborn what about Me- I mean, everyone else ever considered they are tired" Gale tried not to laugh. "well how about we go in halfway and make camp that way if someone tries to enter we can stop him. Halsin nodded smiling. "seems good," Egon said sighing in defeat. Astarion did admire his determination though like when he mentioned to him about Cazador he made it his business to promise to protect him from his master. "sweet love but he isn't a simple vampire you can kill he can come at any time whenever the mood strikes him." "well I can strike him too and he won't see it coming" Egon counters pouting slightly. Astarion rolled his eyes "your such an idiot." Egon snickers "but I'm your idiot" Astarion hums low looking at Egon "well you have a point." Astarion would chuckle at the memory he was indeed a stubborn idiot but he did care about him and how strong and determined he was to anything he set his mind to. and because of this Astarion wanted to make sure he does small things to let Egon know he was grateful for him. Astarion recalled last night's events and smiled fondly because he found out his lover enjoys being read to. However, he would enjoy it when He reads specifically. he would fall asleep with everyone else but he and Egon make sure he was cuddled next to Astarion listening to him read. and when he was tired he would tell him to stop so he wouldn't miss the next part which makes him laugh but soon join him in slumber or rather he sleeps while he meditates. Astarion snaps out of his daydreaming to look at Egon once more who just so happens to be reading a map to locate a treasure that was in Baldur's Gate. Astarion did love this man during all this and now he was certain that maybe there could be a future for them. minus the possible stupid and rash decisions but where is the fun in simplicity? Shaking his head he would walk toward him and shake his head. he leans against him and looks over the map as well. "hm something to get love" Egon grins and nods sharing the map there is a way into this spot through the graveyard" Astarion snorts "ah my darling idiot always doing instead of thinking."

Chapter 21 of Artificial Wingman!
For the full story on Ao3, click here!
Enjoy!
---
Cass stared at the boy in Damian's lap, a small smile playing on her lips. Jason's comment had sent the poor boy into a crisis, it would seem. When she had walked into the room, he had been a bit tense, his fingers fidgeting clumsily with the collar of Damian's cape, though he didn't appear to be aware that they were. But after her brother's blunt question-like statement, his hands had left Robin's collar to slap his face, one hitting his jaw while the other overlapped slightly as it covered his mouth. They did little to muffle the choked sound that escaped him.
She watched in amusement as Damian reached up to pull his hands away from his face, chuckling along with everyone else as the teen rubbed circles in Danny's back in an attempt to help ease the coughing fit he was sent into. When he could finally breathe again, he managed to sputter out "It's not like that!", sending the room into gales of laughter once again.
"Suuure it isn't." Jason drawled, crossing his arms and leaning his hip against the arm chair across from the two teens. "And I didn't spend half the night chasing him around, trying to help him find you," he jerked his thumb at Damian as he spoke, his words laced with sarcasm.
"T-the potio-" Danny started, only to stop, head dropping in defeat as he leaned back into her brother's arms with a sigh. Her smile grew wider as she watched Damian take the teen's hand, letting him play with his fingers as Damian looked back at her and Jason. 'Finally, he's beginning to realize it.'
"Hood, Cain. I assume you have a reason for being here?" Her baby brother's signature scowl was firmly in place, but his body language gave away how relaxed and unbothered he truly was at the moment.
Before Jason could snap back with more sarcasm, she lifted the two bags from her shoulder and set them gently on the coffee table.
One of the bags immediately drew Danny's attention. "Hey," he said, his fingers pausing where they were spreading Damian's, "that looks like my bag." Reaching forwards, the teen paid no mind to the way Damian's arms wrapped around his waist casually as he snagged the messenger bag's strap. Flipping the top open, he blinked at it, slightly dumbfounded. "It is my bag." He looked up, meeting her eyes for the first time. Behind the haze that covered his unnaturally blue irises, she could see a deep intelligence, tempered with curiosity. But, thankfully, there was no suspicion or wariness. "How'd you get it?"
"Robin left it behind." She signed to him, pointing to the teen in case it wasn't obvious who she was talking about. Damian opened his mouth to translate for the teen, but Danny was already nodding, leaning into Damian further as he went back to rifling through his bag.
While his beloved did that, Damian had turned his attention to the other bag. "I hope I am right to assume that this one does not belong to Todd?" He raised a brow at his siblings as he lifted the duffle bag's strap with one finger, not yet intending to pick it up.
Jason let out a sound that was half a laugh, and half a sigh. "Nah, not this time. That one is all Cass." When Damian didn't look the least bit reassured, the man continued. "Honestly, she brought it with her when she swung by my apartment this morning. She let me check it out and everything." A sparky smile lifted the man's lips. "There are zero heads in that bag, scout's honor."
Danny looked up at the odd comment, tuning to lock eyes with the woman Cass was assumed was his sister. Her brother paid them no attention, instead Damian tsked at the man. "You were never involved with any boy scouts." Despite the slight bite to his words, they held no real heat.
"Au contraire, we've both worked with the boy scout." Jason snickered at his joke, the 'Boy scout' in this situation obvious. Well, obvious to most of the room's occupants, anyways. Damian merely rolled his eyes, shifting to lean into Danny a bit more.
"Hey, what did he mean about heads?" Cass overheard Danny whisper the question as he laid his head on Dami's shoulder.
"It is not of importance at the moment. Remind me to tell you of that incident later." Her brother whispered back. She couldn't help but to think that the two were cute like this.
Shaking herself from her thoughts, she walked closer to the table, kneeling down beside it and unzipping the duffle bag when it became obvious that no one else would.
"Here." She managed to quietly say, offering the now-opened bag to the teens. It was Danny that leaned forwards to accept the bag, his obvious caution overturned by his curiosity. Pulling the bag open, she watched as the boy's eyes flew open in shock.
"Is this…?" His question trailed off as he lifted one of the broken pieces of the gun from the bag. Harley leaned over Cass's shoulder to get a better view, cocking her head to the side in a questioning manner.
"What is it?" She asked, leaning forward to poke one of the pieces herself. "Almost looks like a gun. Though, not like any gun I've ever seen."
Jazz sat down a bit heavily on the arm of the couch, next to her brother. Her expression was one of dread. "Danny, please tell me that isn't what I think it is." She pleaded, even though it was obvious she knew exactly what it was.
"I, um. I think it is." The teen lifted another component from the bag, fitting it to the piece in his hand, almost like one of the world's most potentially destructive puzzles. "Ha, so um. Don't be mad, but I completely forgot about this." He let out a nervous laugh as he avoided eye contact with the woman.
"Danny…" She spoke her brother's name with a tone that Cass had only ever heard Dick use when one of them did something particularly reckless.
"Well, I'm glad that you guys know what it is. But some context for the rest of us would be very much appreciated." Jason interrupted the two before the lecture could come, drawing the two siblings' attention back to their audience.
Danny laughed again, this one a bit more out of relief than nerves. "Yeah. Right." He sat up a bit straighter, seeming oblivious to the way Damian re-positioned his arm around his waist to keep him in place. "So, this was what got me here in the first place. And kinda our… easy way home?" He brought his hand up to rub at his neck, small, nervous giggles slipping out of him as he went back to examining the damage.
"That explains literally nothing." Jason deadpan, making the teen laugh again.
"Right. This is-was-a portal gun. It's kinda obvious what it does, but it makes portals to different Realms and dimensions. Heck, if used the right way, you might even be able to travel through time! I wouldn't suggest that though." The teen shuddered. "Anyways, like I said, this is how I got here. And it was gonna be my way home but, uh, I may have said something stupid to someone while said someone was in a love potion's thrall?" It didn't take a genius to figure out who that 'someone's was. Especially when they were sitting right there, looking both proud and guilty.
"Right." Jason dragged the word out, taking a moment to digest this new information. After a minute, the man sighed. "At least it isn't a death ray or something."
Jasmine choked while her brother grinned mischievously. "Yeah, definitely not the death ray. That one's too big to push out of the basement anyways."
"Danny!" Jazz scolded the teen.
"What?" He asked.
"We do not own a death ray!" She ruffled her brother's hair, making the already messy head of black fluff up more. The teen screeched at the action, batting her hands away and desperately trying to smooth the mess down unsuccessfully.
He stuck his tongue out at her in petty retaliation, pressing himself closer to Damian's chest as he glared, probably hoping to escape her range. "Seriously? With all the stuff mom and dad have made, is a death ray really that far fetched?"
Before Jazz could respond to the honestly worrying statement, Jason cleared his throat. "Well, while that sounds lovely, and definitely something to discuss later," Cass couldn't help her quiet snicker, "we should probably discuss… all of this." He gestured to the siblings and Damian with a twirling motion from his wrist. "So, quick recap. Da-err, Robin, is under a love potion that you," he pointed to the teens in turn as he spoke, "made, and you said something that upset him, so he broke your portal gun," Danny pulled the afferminted device closer, "and now your sister is here to take you back home? Did I get it?"
"That's pretty vague, but yeah. Basically." Danny and his sister nodded.
"But you said that the gun was your way back home?" Jason tilted his head to the side, his eyes narrowed in classic bat-detective style.
The teen shook his head. "No, I said it was our easiest way home. Not the only one." He corrected the man.
Jason nodded. "Right, okay. So, what would the other ways be, exactly?" He stepped closer to the couch, stopping next to Jazz. Cass had to fight the smile that wanted to overtake her at the way he studiously avoided looking directly at the red head, proving her earlier suspicion.
"Well~" the teen rubbed his chin as he thought. "There are a few different ways we can get back. I could try to open a portal," he ticked down the option on his hand, "we could try and track down a natural portal. Or we could wait for the portal she used to open again," pointing to his sister as he listed the option, he waited for her to nod before continuing. "We could also try and contact Wulf, or Cujo, and they could take us back. So yeah, we have a few ways. Though, they all have down sides…" his hand went from his chin to his neck.
Jasmine picked up for him before anyone could ask. "The downsides to almost all of them is that they could take a while. Waiting for the natural portal I used to open again could take anywhere from a few minutes to a few months, if it ever opened again. And finding a natural portal in a place not doused in ectoplasm would be difficult in its own right." She frowned slightly at her brother, "and he is still learning how to open portals, so that option is fifty fifty at best, and pretty much zero at worst." Danny stuck his tongue out at her again, but didn't interrupt.
"As for calling Wulf or Cujo, there is always a chance that they won't respond right away. And time can get weird in the Realms, so a minute there could be a minute to a week on this side of the veil." She sighed, tugging at a lock of her ginger hair absently. "Honestly, I think our best bet would be rebuilding the portal gun. It seems like the surest shot we have at the moment."
Danny nodded in agreement, but still didn't look all that convinced. "Yeah, rebuilding the gun would be the best option. But how would I do that? I don't exactly have the parts and tools in my messenger bag." He flipped the latch on the bag absently as he spoke. "So unless you brought some spare parts in your purse, we kinda have to go with one of the other ways."
Jazz smirked a bit. "Well, I don't have them in my purse…" Her tone caught her brother's attention, the boy cocking his head to the side as his dilated pupils locked on her.
"But..?" He prompted the woman when she didn't continue.
"But… we might have what you need in the Specter Speeder's junk box. Right?" The teen fell silent at her words, their meaning a bit lost on the rest of the room.
Finally, it seemed to hit Danny, what his sister was referring to. "No way… you came in the Speeder?" Jasmine nodded, her smirk growing as her brother began to clumsily try and stand up, mostly failing due to the way Damian was still holding him. "What are we waiting for then?" The teen demanded.
"Whoa there, pump the brakes, Lover boy." Jason butted in, his attention fully on the teen as he walked over to help Damian settle him back down. "Weren't you just kidnapped yesterday? And under some pretty heavy drugs as well? You are in no condition to jump up and start working on… this," he gestured to the broken gun on the table, "right now. You need to rest."
"But-" the teen started to protest, but was cut off.
"Danny, I'm sure that they will be adequate enough to retrieve this 'Specter Speeder' and bring it back." Danny pouted at him, but Cass could see the fight leak out of him, as he let himself be sat back down. "For now, Todd was right. You were just in a serious and potentially dangerous situation. You are required to rest."
The ravenette huffed, but didn't try to stand up again. "Fine." He grumbled, crossing his arms. "But the minute they get back, I want to start working on this." He pointed to the duffle bag. "And no one will stop me."
"Alright, beloved." Cass bit her tongue at the tone her youngest brother used as he rubbed neat little circles into the teen's back, helping to ease the tension out of his shoulders. It was a bit obvious that he was responding purely to placate the teen. Obvious to everyone except Danny, that is.
Danny huffed again, but let his shoulders slump as his hands fell to his lap. He was satisfied, at least for the moment, and it seemed that all the excitement from their arrival was taking a toll on him now, from the way he fell completely against Dami, his eyes fluttering half-way closed. "Good." He mumbled. "I guess I could take a nap or somethin' while they're gone." Just a few minutes after his statement, the teen was put like a light, soft snores coming from him as he snoozed against Damian, using her brother's shoulder and chest as a pillow. Damian didn't seem to mind, though.
"Okay, now that that's settled, I guess we should get going." Jazz stood up, heading towards the door. Jason started to follow her, but stopped half way, turning back to look a Cass.
"Cass? You coming too, or are you gonna stay here?" Jason asked her.
She thought about it for a minute before shaking her head and signing. "I'll stay here. Been wanting to meet him for a while, anyways."
Her brother nodded. "Okay. Let me know if you need anything, got it?" At her affirmative nod, he turned around again and headed after Jasmine.
Cass couldn't help but laugh aloud as she hard Jason's sudden outburst as they filed out the door. "Wait, I just realized. Did your brother say he could make portals? What the-"

so I actually finally finished my first playthrough of bg3 last night (except it was actually this morning because I beat the final boss at like 3 am) and I just wanted to share my experience. obviously there will be spoilers
so yes. it did take me like 2 months to finish the game, a lot longer than the average player. this was mostly because I was just really busy with school and shit and I've been playing on my parents tv, so I obviously didn't get too much time to myself to binge the game. but honestly, when I did get time to play through the game, I was honestly so overjoyed to just explore the world and do quests with my silly little guys.
imo my favorite act in the game is the first act, which from what I read, many people agree with me on this sentiment. that doesn't mean that I think that the other two acts weren't great, but I just think that act 1 had something special going on there. i loved how huge the first act was and just how much I could do in this act. i thought I finished this act having completed every quest (except those in the mountain pass because I didn't know that I could just go through both paths, which I don't know how I came to that conclusion in hindsight) but when reading and watching videos about bg3, I learned that there was a ton of stuff that I missed. I can't wait for my second playthrough (which will probably be my durge run) to experience more that I missed.
i don't know where to put this point in this essay thing, but the party after defeating the goblin camp. love it! this is where fanfictions are born. although you don't really get much when romancing gale in this party except the fact that he proclaims that he likes your stank in the most socially awkward but well meaning way. i thought this was funny.
oh yeah! also Lae'zel tried to have sex with me. we didn't, but I thought I might as well share that.
speaking of Lae'zel: the most underrated character in the game. i don't care. she is extremely wholesome despite our first introduction to her. in my playthrough, she was the one that got kidnapped by orin in act three. when I rescued her from orin, she was extremely sweet and thankful about it. she said something about the githyanki language not having a word for "thank you", and she tells the player the closest thing to it in her language. but even then she thought that wasn't a good enough way to express gratitude, so she said "thank you, sincerely." she's not my favorite companion, but my heart did swell in this moment
speaking of favorite companions-
astarion
ASTARION
yes I know that everyone reading this probably heard this a million times, but Astarion is such an amazing and well written character. this man is blorbo himself. i want to be his best friend. during my playthrough, my tav and Astarion had a sort of sibling like relationship: being on near opposite sides of the character archetype spectrum and disagreeing on a lot of things, but also being super protective over each other (we dislike Araj in this house). his whole story arc made me want to cry several times. i wish this game had a hug option for every companion so that I could hug everyone, ESPECIALLY Astarion. omg. OMG. when we defeated Cazador and Astarion stabbed him repeatedly, i cheered. i got him to not ascend and I cheered. like Karlach (who i also love and got me the closest to actually crying), i was so fucking proud of Astarion. i could talk about him all day but I think I would just stop there and resort to reblogging post about him for my own sanity.
when thinking of my opinion on Shadowheart, I remember that I didn't like her at all at first. it didn't help that she was racist against the githyanki. but after act 2 and pretty much always having her in my party as the main healer, she REALLY grew on me as a character. imo, I think she has one of the best character arcs and she really meshes well with the other companions. she's not a comic relief character at all, but every joke and sarcastic comment she makes is always a banger. she's my Tav's official best friend. also her act three glow up. that is all
oh also during Shadowheart's quest in act three, I met Viconia DeVir (who i killed) and I laughed my ass off because I ended up naming my Tav Viconia who when playing as her, she was like the EXACT opposite of the evil cult leader. there was definitely a "there can only be one" moment when killing her
I also feel that Wyll is pretty underrated character, which is disappointing since he is actually super interesting as a character. I mean he made a deal with a devil. like. c'mon. now I did sometimes get annoyed with his whole being a hero schtick, but also he's like the most sane character companion imo. i felt bad about him sulking alone at the after goblin killing party and I was tempted to ask him to dance to maybe cheer him up, but I also knew that this would probably lead to a romance with him, which I didn't really want. so I just let him be. i remember the impossible choice we had to make in act three (save Wyll's dad and sacrifice his freedom, or break the contract Wyll made with Mizora and let his dad die). This was actually a really difficult decision to make because like. it's either your dad or your freedom. it's literally an impossible choice to make. i decided to have Wyll be free of his contract with Mizora because I had hope that we could maybe find a loophole to this whole deal. WHICH THERE WAS. I had to undo a 5 whole hours of progress because of a bug with Duke Ravengard not spawning in the iron throne if you progress too much in the lower city before watching Gortash's coronation (which is entirely my fault for being awful at directions and not understanding very obvious instructions), BUT I DID IT. I saved Wyll's dad and had him free from Mizora's servitude! his friendship with Karlach is also extremely sweet. I love just how nice Wyll is. I think he's neat.
KARLACH! My favorite female companion! I was so excited when I was finally able to give her a hug. she's just so sweet and fun and as i said before she got me the closest to crying while playing the game. she almost made me cry not once, not twice, but THREE whole times. first time was of course when she was finally able to touch people. second was when we killed Gortash and she had a crisis about dying soon. third was when I thought she was actually going to die before Wyll offered that she come with him back avernus to kill all the devils (bless Wyll). she's also the number one funniest character in the game which juxtaposes the fact that she almost made ms cry the most amount of times.
speaking of crying, this game made me want to cry three separate times in one day. i made the mistake of playing through Shadowheart's and Astarion's quest on the same day then proceeding to kill Gortash, which you already know what happens after that.
After playing through the game, I agree that camp dad(dy) is the official term to describe Halsin. I'm not attracted to him in any since, so to me he is just dad, but I do agree with this sentiment. also goddamn he tall
Jaheira is the fun aunt of the group and I love her for that. she's a queen.
Minsc is himbo. I also realized that he always has something to say about everything we do, and I didn't realize that until when I talked to him one time and he was speaking of something we did like three quests ago and I had to keep talking to him until he was finally caught up with the current events. it was super hilarious
Also I love Boo! when Minsc introduced me to this space hamster I immediately feel in love with his tiny wittle paw awnd hwis wittle whiskews- also Boo had so much personality and I love him for that.
now. it is time to be down bad. Gale. my beloved. if you have seen the amount of posts and art that I reblog about him, you could probably tell that I am absolutely down bad for this man. I don't know when it started, but holy shit. this man got me kicking my legs and squealing like a little school girl. every romance scene with him got me down bad. he says just the sweetest things and I am on the floor dead from a heart attack. he proposed to me at the end of the game. i was happy :)
other points about Gale: he is super funny. every joke with him is hilarious. Mystra is a bitch. he gives dedicated history professor vibes. his camp outfit looks so comfy. he hates sneaking because his knees hate sneaking. he is best friends with his tressym named Tara, who he summoned NOT because of tressyms being known for being a great familiar, but because he wanted a friend. pleasure domes lol
i guess this is all to say that I love every companion in bg3
i believe I got the best ending (in terms of good or bad endings) in the game, and my hot take is that I actually love the ending of the game! i don't know what other people were talking about when they said it wasn't satisfying. the only critique I can give about the ending is that if you don't romance either Shadowheart or Astarion, you don't really know what happens to them after the events of the game other than they probably have a happy ending. other than that, great ending!
i will say that I do agree with most other people when they say that act 3 is maybe the weakest act in the game. not that it isn't a bad act. i just think it's unnecessary difficult even in explorer difficulty, which I did had to set it to because balanced wasn't cutting it for my smooth brain. i also had difficulty with trying to figure out what to do or where to go for a huge chunk of the act. and if it wasn't for a few helpful guides, I might have accidentally skipped a huge chunk of the quests and gotten a worse ending for a lot of my companions. also yeah. act 3 is extremely buggy. not unplayable buggy, but it did cause a lot of problems with my playthrough including me having to redo 5 hours of progress because of a bug
also fighting the githyanki at any point in the game starting from the end of act 2 is an absolute nightmare. how are a group of githyanki monks a more difficult fight than the literal god of death?
speaking of death, i love the dead three. i think they are amazing antagonists. my favorite with being Thorm. he is just so intimidating and he gave an amazing first impression. it helps that he is voiced by J.K. Simmons.
OH AND RAPHAEL! he is so theatre kid evil and that is amazing! best fight theme in the game. i saved the song on my Spotify before I even got to his fight because I heard it for the first time when I was kind of watching my brother play and I fell in love with the song.
i wish there was more to do in act 2, but in terms of story, it is extremely strong and the act is extremely spooky, which I love. i got scarred for life in the house of healing. though I think the biggest strength with act 2 is Shadowheart. she stole the show in act 2.
also Gale's act 2 romance scene hehe <3
Scratch best boy
Owl bear cub so adorable
oh! also when exploring the szarr palace, I found an owl bear plush and I immediately wanted it to be real. i immediately stole it because it is the best thing ever
i love this game so much! there is so much more I want to speak about, but then this would turn into a novel if I mentioned everything. I might make a post about my Tav later on, but that's for later. i already made a google doc about her profile, but there is so much more that I want to discuss about her outside that doc, so...maybe I can share the doc whenever and maybe let people send asks about the character and I can discuss more in detail stuff that wasn't mentioned
I'm probably gonna take a short break from playing bg3 since I still just want to think about the finale and I spent maybe 80 hours of gameplay on this one run (i say this one run because I have been playing a bit with my brother and friend)
afterwards I want to do a redeemed dark urge run. i might romance Astarion not because I see him in a romantic light, but because I really ship him with the durge thanks to all of the art I have seen
tldr; bg3 is amazing

Have you seen this buckbucky edit yet?
BIG OL' MISCELLANEOUS ASK POST!!
1) UNFORTUNATELY (said with love). that edit made me cry like a mf, my soul is too soft for those two to stay dry eyed through stuff like that. but god it was BEAUTIFUL.
2) ohh 100000%. it's in my post–war buckbucky playlist, it fits john's pov so well. it's so angsty, working through mental health issues in the aftermath, learning how to communicate with gale and ask for help when he needs it, just wanting to be by his side 24/7 but feeling undeserving of his love and also being afraid of how much he loves him and how much gale loves him back </3
3) omg no don't be sorry!! i am someone who listens to a little bit of everythinggg don't sweat it. i gave it a listen and YOWCH that hurt wtf?? it does fit bucky in that time so well, our poor sweet boy. :( also i still feel so bad that my only curtbucky fic is an mcd angst one LOL i need to fix that soon <3
4) another one i hadn't heard but nooo it absolutely is. all the angsty pine–y songs fit him so perfectly </3 he just wants to feel someone love him the same way he loves!! but also: 'i know i should be angry, but i can barely feel a fucking thing' is very plane–wing–scene :(
5) NO. NOT FUN. i have such a hard time listening to that song as is but thinking about it with post–war john in mind has literally made it 10x more painful and now this edit 😭 i tried to make an angsty edit to it a few weeks back but i started crying every time LOL phoebe just hurts too damn bad when you pair her with mota stuff. i adore her <3
6) SGDKJG honestly a wild day for us. she cracks me up like no one else <33 but OOO okay so i'm a strange one alright i grew up adoring anything fantasy/sci–fi, ate every novel and movie and show up, but in the past few years i've sort of lost interest in that vibe? which makes me really sad! but i've just been enjoying more slice of life stuff in terms of media i consume.
so i think if dune had come out when i was in like high school, i would've been obsessed, but even if it's not my go to genre, i still thought they were beautiful movies, perfect casts, managed to hold my attention as someone who can barely sit thru movies 99% of the time, the sound design was incredible, 10/10. no complaints.
but listen.... at first i was like "yummy feyd" as a joke. i serious'd very very fast. like i knew i'd be attracted just bc, i mean, c'mon, it's austin lmfaooo, but my brain chemistry was genuinely altered. i haven't like properly fleshed out any au–type of brainrot because i honestly didn't retain enough info about the dune universe (again. i am not a good movie watcher, i do not do well just sitting down and paying attention to one thing for three hours lol) but i do think some sort of crossover where john is in the dune world would be interesting!
let's be real, most of us would probably just wanna see john and feyd fuck nasty so. not sure it needs much elaborating on LMFAO and i'd be surprised if someone doesn't end up writing a fic like that– wouldn't be surprised if there already are some!
#sorry for lumping so many together bbs#i just feel bad spamming the timeline LOL so i figured since these were all such a mixed bag i could squeeze them into one post <3#johnslittlespoon asks#johnslittlespoon yaps

Tav masterpost
hi this is a masterpost where i'm gonna write every bit of info i have about my tavs so i dont lose it (and people are free to ask me about them aaaaaany time honestly), the characters are listed in the order that i've created them. warning that there is major spoilers for bg3 below
Lala
Pronouns: she/her
Class: way of the elements monk
Background: charlatan wood elf
Age: 40-something
Love interest: Astarion
Native to the woods of the Sword Coast, when she was still young her father passed and her mother decided to relocate to Baldur's Gate. She grew up in the city, but since her mother didn't want her to abandon her roots as a wood elf, for a period of time she sent her to a monastery not far from the city, among monks that would teach her anything from how to fend for herself in the wilderness, to martial arts. This taught her to have perfect control of her body and senses, even though later in life she ended up only using her skills in tavern brawls and the like.
Before being abducted by the mind flayers, she used to take odd jobs around the city such as being a rich snob's bodyguard, transporting heavy cargo and, most commonly, beating people up for money. Now she has moved to the underdark where she is helping Astarion lead the 7000 vampire spawns they saved together, with the occasional visit to the surface when her mother invites both of them for dinner.
Chiara (MAJOR SPOILERS)
Pronouns: she/her
Class: domain of tempest cleric of lathander
Background: alcolyte seldarine drow
Age: 50-something
Love interests: Astarion (former), Minthara
Born in the underdark, even as a youth Chiara rejected the violence of drow society, and eventually one night she packed her bags and simply ran away, without a destination in mind. She stumbled upon a temple dedicated to Lathander, where believers taught her the morninglord's doctrine, and where she lived for years before being abducted.
Throughout her journey to getting the tadpole removed, Chiara slowly fell to the corruption that power brings, learning more and more into it until one day where she promised Minthara that they would become the Absolute, together. Now she commands an army of Illithids, with the inted of taking over Faerun first, and then the rest of Toril.
Baelisar
Pronouns: he/him
Class: wild magic sorcerer
Background: outlander wood half-elf
Age: 25-30
Love interest: Gale
Baelisar's mother was a wood elf, while his father was a human, he was born in the wild where grew up and spend the first decades of his life. Very early on in his infancy, it was clear that the weave flowed effortlessly through his veins, even though his grasp of it was less than ideal, he spent most of his life trying to understand the power he was born with.
Still traveling the Sword Coast, he hopes for the day he can find his way back home, tadpole-free and, hopefully, with Gale by his side.
Fuli Qhavox
Pronouns: they/them
Class: domain of tempest cleric of talos (in lore cleric of umberlee)
Background: the haunted one, water genasi
Age: ???
Love interest: Wyll
Barely capable of remembering their name, Fuli woke up on the Nautiloid, and every moment after that they have spent trying to understand the urges and lust for blood that has been haunting them since the moment they awoke. There is no past for them to reflect upon, there is only now. Their goal is to get to moonrise towers intact and, hopefully, find answers there.
Veleno di Lorenzo
Pronouns: she/any
Class: school of lore bard
Background: charlatan human
Age: 29
Love interest: Astarion (YES AGAIN)
Besides performing terrible music in taverns for a handful of coins a night, most of Veleno's adult life has been spent in most of the social spaces of Baldur's Gate, hidden by a cloak, pen and paper in hand, aching for the next scoop. A married noble walking through the door of Sharess's Caress, a politician making deals in a sketchy tavern, you know the drill.
She was kidnapped just as she was working on her magnum opus: a scathing article that would reveal to the public the shocking truth that the reclusive noble by the name of Cazador Szarr is a vampire. The whole almost-indoctrinated-into-a-cult thing might have set her back on her work, if it weren't for the fact that she now has one of Szarr's spawns in the palm of her very hand, and he so happens to have taken an interest in her.
Note: by this point Veleno di Lorenzo is a well established oc of mine, it felt only fair to put her into my favorite game too :3
Medeia-Zaera Zenwyn Dryza
Pronouns: she/her
Class: oath of devotion paladin
Background: noble high half-elf
Age: 26
Love interest: Wyll
Medeia is the descendant of a family of elven nobles, and, despite only being a half-elf with a human father, she was still accepted by nobility due to her mother's good-standing reputation. The life of riches and power was not enough, though, as she had a hunger for advenutre, and the desire to protect the common people, punishing evils along the way.
The chance to prove her worth fell upon her when she found herself abducted and stranded in the middle of nowhere, now more motivated than ever to save Faerun from the biggest threat it has ever faced. Though, her world was shaken when she found a familiar face among the victims of the Absolute: Wyll, son of duke Ravengard, stands in front of her, proudly declaring his "Blade of Frontiers" title. He didn't seem that different from when Medeia met him nearly a decade earlier at a ball, and she naturally gravitated towards him as a trusted companion for the journey. Though, how much should she trust a man who has made a deal with a devil?

The tale of Wyll Ravengard, the Blade of Frontiers, and Tara Lunarsong, the Lily of the Valley. From the moment their stories started, to when their stories intertwined, to when the stories came to an end, and a new story began.
» Wyll reunites with an old friend, and old memories are brought up.
A/N: I write in Dutch, first, before translating to English, so sorry for any mistakes!
1 / 2 (You're here!) / 3
His horns itched, but he couldn't scratch. His claws would cut through his skin, and the horns themselves hurt enough already. He had the body of a half-human, half-tiefling, even though he was a devilspawn. The lack of a tail made it clear what he really was: a half-devil.
Behind him, behind the bushes, there was a feast going on — the tieflings celebrating that they were still alive, that they were safe. A few days ago, Wyll might have joined them, but Zevlor's reaction told him enough. The tieflings were afraid of him. They knew him as the Blade of Frontiers and now he was their greatest fear.
He heard them laughing profusely. Alfira loudly sang a song to get everyone in the mood, and he stood on the riverbank, lost in thought. Then he heard footsteps in the sand. They came closer and closer. When Wyll looked at who joined him, he was speechless.
When he first met Tara, she was wearing a bloodied blue dress that showed a lot of skin. Her hair was messed up and caked in blood. But after they defeated the goblins, Tara had clearly found a new dress.
Now she was wearing a dark purple dress, the skirt of which was torn above her knees. Her legs were covered by black thigh high leather boots with high heels. A black leather corset hugged her waist, and it looked damn good on her.
When he finished admiring her clothes, he looked into her eyes and saw a tattoo decorating her cheekbone: three bird silhouettes. The moonlight made her look even paler, but she was still the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.
"Hells, I was hoping you wouldn't notice I was gone," Wyll admitted half-softly, and she threw him a nervous smile, "Of course I noticed. It's not a party without you."
"Really? I'm honoured," Wyll said, first with a small smile before getting serious: "Honestly, I don't feel like I'm in a party mood, and I don't want to cast a grey cloud over the night."
Tara frowned questioningly.
"I'm a devil," he explained, "I love the people of the grove, but I upset them, deep down. You don't want a devil at your party. Claws will pop the balloons, you see. And the sweet pies don't taste half as good as raw eggs with this cursed forked tongue."
His words were laced with venom. He hated what he had become.
Tara took a step closer. "For what it's worth, you don't upset me," she whispered. There was pity in her eyes — no, not pity. Grief.
Wyll shook his head and chuckled. "If only half the world had half of your heart," he sighed, "But away with you! This is your day. Dance, enjoy the music."
"Can't you tell why I wanted to find you?" she smiled shyly.
Wyll felt his cheeks grow warm, but he didn't want to cherish his hopes.
"You must have ended up here by accident," he joked, "Too much honeywine can do that. You have to watch yourself."
She laughed nervously, "No. Guess what."
"Let me think for a moment," he mused, "Why are you really here?"
She wasn't here for him. Why would she be, if she could seduce someone like Karlach or Gale?
"You must be Volo in disguise," he jokingly claimed, "Who is here to address me for stories about the Blade of Frontiers. What a cruel disguise! My nerves started hammering as soon as I thought she was the one looking for me."
Please let me down slowly if you don't feel the same. Please forget everything I said if your heart belongs to someone else.
"Surprisingly, you're getting closer," Tara said, before biting her lip nervously.
"It's a long shot," Wyll muttered, "But maybe you've... grown fond of me? Gods know I've grown fond of you."
Her eyes grew large with joy as her pale cheeks turned red. "Was I that obvous?" she blushed, causing him to laugh, "You have a lot of talents, but subtlety is not one of them."
Then he looked away and avoided her gaze, "I can't say I deserve the honour. I haven’t even manage to kill one measly devil. I'm hardly a prime catch."
He watched her swallow. She looked nervous, but that didn't stop her from taking another step closer.
"Perhaps I can prove my affection, if you'll let me?" she said softly.
He looked at her again. Her purple eyes twinkled.
"How do you want to prove that?" he asked, his voice barely louder than a whisper.
Slowly she stretched out her hand and cupped his cheek. Her skin was freezing cold, but he didn't flinch. If anything, he leaned into her touch. She looked into his eyes and then glanced at his lips.
The sounds of the party began to fade and the only thing he could focus on was Tara. He felt himself lean forward until their lips barely touched. She looked into his eyes for one last time, before their lips finally met.
He felt his heart start beating faster. As she kept one hand on his cheek, he felt her press the other against his waist. He put his hands on her waist and pulled her closer to him as he deepened the kiss.
Wyll had had a lot of kisses, but Tara's lips felt like pure magic.
Despite feeling like the moment lasted an eternity, Wyll still felt it was over too soon, but eventually he had to pull away to take a breath.
"Well, you have a party to return to," he swallowed. He looked at her, his eyes full of promises, "There will be another time for us. I promise you."

🔥
The Hunger Games is massively overrated.
I was 14 when I read them and I liked the first one and was hugely disappointed by both sequels, especially Mockingjay. Fans now like to minimize the role of the love triangle and I understand why, because it did get more than its fair share of focus, especially when the movies came out, and it was probably unfair to treat it like a Team Edward vs Team Jacob thing. That being said, the love triangle does comprise a significant part of the book, especially in Catching Fire.
When I read the first book, I desperately hoped there would not be a love triangle with Gale. The thing is, everything good that is accomplished with that storyline could have been done without the love triangle. Katniss and Gale grew up together; they could be like family. That wouldn't make his involvement in Prim's death any less painful. The love triangle is there because it's YA. Also, I think some people are kidding themselves about how the book themselves were marketed, even before the movies came out. Katniss and Peeta's relationship was featured pretty heavily in synopses. Gale and Peeta do represent different lives for Katniss and different visions of the future, but that's hardly unique to this series; a lot of love triangles do that.
I also think the world-building is a little sloppy, and whether Suzanne Collins always planned a trilogy or not, my reaction to Catching Fire was that it felt like she didn't and once the first book was successful and there was demand for a sequel, she had to quickly come up with a way to put Katniss and Peeta back in the arena. The Quarter Quell is never mentioned in the first book, and I know Katniss and Peeta weren't alive for the last one, but their parents would remember it, and Haymitch participated. It's not that it's completely implausible that it wouldn't come up, but it's a little odd, and does have the effect of making it seem like a convenient excuse for a sequel. I almost would have preferred if sending Katniss and Peeta back was Some New Bullshit the Capitol pulled in-universe. There is precedent with the rule changes, plus they'd have the dual motive of Katniss and Peeta being good for ratings and an opportunity to get rid of them and hopefully kill the movement they accidentally started.
District 13 secretly existing felt way out of left field to me and I hated it and honestly found it kind of hard to believe. Maybe if there had been some more foreshadowing, different versions of how it was supposedly destroyed, something. It also diminished the Capitol as a threat to find out they didn't actually wipe out in entire district, even though they do that to District 12.
I personally didn't feel it was consistent with Gale's character for him to become so loyal to District 13 so quickly, because he always seemed more motivated by anti-authoritarianism than pure hatred of the Capitol. I'm willing to give this one the benefit of the doubt, especially since there may have been development we didn't see from Katniss's POV, but my impression when I read the series was it was a convenient way to show the problem with District 13, the corruption of someone close to Katniss, and that Gale was the wrong romantic choice all at the same time.
On a personal note, I was uncomfortable with the Katniss talked about her and Peeta having children in the epilogue. I know the intention, and I think maybe if we had actually seen that story in more detail it wouldn't bother me, but the way it was phrased did make it sound, on the surface, like Peeta talked her into something she was uncomfortable with. I know that wasn't what she meant, you don't have to explain that to me, but when I was reading it as a young teen my reaction was basically "I know this isn't what she meant but yikes." Especially when she describes how distressing her first pregnancy was.
The Hunger Games is social commentary and it's fine as social commentary aimed at teens, similar to The Giver having its own target audience. But I don't think it's nearly as brilliant as people like to say and I'm pretty skeptical of the whole "this was an anti-capitalist series that got nerfed by the movies!!!" attitude. I don't think it necessarily is anti-capitalist; a lot of works comment on rampant consumerism, corruption, decadence, etc. without condemning capitalism as a whole.
I was also very put off by the fandom on tumblr circa 2014 because they were claiming a lot of diversity that was not explicitly present in the books.

Peeta Mellark x male reader
We all know who Katniss Everdeen is, but what if Primrose hadn’t been chosen but another boy from another unfortunate family? YOUR family.
Info: This is basically a reader insert and I’ve changed a few rules, not ground breaking though. The reader is a bit bland for now but I plan for his actions to be different. Because he has different moral grounds from Katniss and such. Would appreciate feedback! FEEL FREE TO POINT OUT TYPOS. GRAMMARLY SOMETIMES DOESN’T DO MY DYSLEXIC ASS JUSTICE

It didn't take long before I came home, my mother and brother was already dressed, and I was right, Kunal has been crying.
He immediately lightened up when he saw the bread, pushing the sleeves of my first reaping outfit (which was now his) back in order to munch on it.
"Don't worry, you only have your name once in the pile, you're safe," I reassured him, as I've done many times before.
I smiled, patting his head. My mother glanced at me, but I pretended to not notice. It's been long since we've talked, the last time was a disagreement, a petty one at that. About two years or so?
I honestly surpised myself, how can I go without talking to her for so long. . .?
Another trait my father passed on to me was a short temper, though I never lose my head and scream, but something about her words made me yell. Her face was full of shock when I did that, almost as if I've betrayed her.
"Don't be stupid like your father!" She told me.
My father isn't a stupid man, he was smart. Lady luck just wasn't on his side that day.
I took a bath, scrubbing the dirt and soot off myself. When I saw my clothing my heart stopped. It was my Father's.
It was simple, just as he liked. A white button up tunic, the hems made of elegant gold lace. The pants were loose, with garters securing on the hip and the hems, he never liked tight clothing, just like me.
My eyes went towards my mother, who simply nodded, "After you get dressed, sit down, won't you? Let me fix your hair," she said.
My mouth opened to protest, only to shut itself when she whispered a small, "please," My eyes softened, her voice sounded so guilty, she regretted her words, just as I did. She knew I could get chosen.
But I'm a coward, I don't like apologizing, something I inherited from her.
I nodded, and got dressed before I sat down, just as she told me. She began to braid tiny sections of my hair. I've never been good at it, really, It would always look messy when I did it. So I just looked messy everyday.
But her hands can do magic, it was like she was weaving silk, her hands full of grace and utmost care as she intertwined every strand of hair. I could feel her hand shake a little, as if scared with one wrong touch, I'd shatter like glass.
She used to sew clothing, make various artworks with whatever was in the house. Her hand was naturally delicate, soft to anything she makes contact with.
I bit my lip, none of us wanted to say it. We we're both thinking the same thing, though.
I never really liked cutting my hair, always kept it atleast neck length at best. I don't think short hair suits me at all, though it does get in the way while hunting from time to time.
Once she finished, without a word she pressed her chapped lips onto my forehead, she then walked away, leaving me with a pit of guilt in my stomach.
Such simple words, why can't I just say it?
I sighed, fixing my tunic and tucking it in, the garter snapping back, making me wince a little. It was stupid of me to let go.
I took a deep breath in, mustering all the courage I had to walk towards my brother, who has devoured the entire loaf. "Good?" I asked.
He nodded, a smile on his face, the crumbs falling down. I chuckled, wiping his mouth with my hand.
"You're like a bird, aren't you, little mocking jay?" I said, patting his head again.
He hummed, nodding aggressively, his hair bouncing up and down. I snickered, holding his head still with both my hands. I squished his cheeks together, making his lips form into a duck beak-shape. "Hey, Y/n,"
I rose my brows, humming. "I won't get chosen, won't I?" he asked. I sniffed, shaking my head as I linked our foreheads. "No, no you wont, Nal," I said. "If they call you, I won't let you go, alright?"
"You promise?"
"Of course,"
Soon it hit one in the afternoon, it was mandatory to attend this "festival", unless you're at death's door, that is. I found myself beside Gale, who patted my shoulder for reassurance.
Maybe it was obvious I'm stressed, tense. I'm not worried about myself, I'm more worried of them, especially Kunal. He's only twelve, yet he can still get chosen.
Some kind of festival this is.
I clenched my fists tighter, palms started to go white as I also clenched my jaw.
On the temporary stage stationed in front of the justice building was a podium, three chairs and two large bowls. The district is divided into two sections, jumbled across those two glass bowls, waiting to be picked up.
Twenty of them contained 'Y/n Greyback', one of them contained 'Kunal Greyback'.
There were also bright banners hung up, though I'm sure it was just there to taunt us, it sure worked for me. Everytime I look at it I start feel sick, hatred bubbling in my stomach.
The feeling of claustrophobia began to settle in as people piled into the square, the late comers having to just watch from a monitor instead.
"You alright?" Gale asked, nudging me. I gulped, sighing, "Course, I just —" I turned back, looking at my brother. "Worry of him,"
He gave me a sympathetic look, "He only has one entry, I'm sure he won't be picked," He said. Something I've been saying for such a long time, it didn't help settle my nerves.
"I know," I answered plainly.
We looked towards Katniss' place, beside her was Mardge, who gave me a curt smile and a wave. Out of politeness, I simply nodded back before turning back to the stage.
My hands grew colder each second, by two, when the mayor finally reached the stage, my hands were as cold as a corpse's.
Beside the mayor was Effie Trinket, District 12’s escort, fresh from the Capitol with her scary white grin, pinkish hair, and spring green suit. It looked quite ghastly.
Everyone murmured in worry, for whom was the empty third seat for?
The mayor stepped in front of the podium, beginning to tell the tale of Panem, how the twelve districts lost in the rebellion and now have to face punishment.
The Hunger games.
It was simple, each district would pick two "tributes" to this little game, and then they either kill like a hungry wolf or die like lost cattle.
I gulped, sweat forming on my forehead as I instinctively reached for the end of Gale's shirt. He held my hand, patting it a few times to let me know it would be alright.
He then began to read the victors in every hunger games. In the past seventy-four years, we have had exactly two.
Only one is still alive. Haymitch Abernathy, a paunchy, middle-aged man, who at this moment appears hollering something unintelligible, staggers onto the stage, and falls into the third chair.
To say he's drunk would be an understatement.
The crowd responds with its token applause, but he’s confused and tries to give Effie Trinket a big hug, which she barely manages to fend off.
The mayor looks distressed. Since all of this is being televised, right now District 12 is the laughingstock of Panem, and he knows it. He quickly tries to pull the attention back to the reaping by introducing Effie Trinket.
Bright and bubbly as ever, she began to talk. I could feel my blood boiling upon hearing her obnoxious, Capitol accent. I tuned her out, gulping as my hands somehow grew even colder.
Please don't let it be my brother, anyone but him.
"Let's have the first pick, shall we?" She said, her voice at the end of the sentence practically sky rocketing up. She pulled a piece of paper from one of the Glass bowls.
My heart pounded, as if trying to escape my chest. I closed my eyes, taking deep breaths in.
"Kunal Greyback,"
My heart stopped. Why couldn't it have been me? I had twenty, TWENTY entries.
I watched as my brother walked past me, his lip quivering, eyes glossy. Oh sweet, sweet Kunal, as delicate as a Lotus.
Kunal, the boy who gathers flowers every morning just for me.
Kunal, the boy who loves pulling on my braids.
Kunal, my dear innocent brother. Afraid of his own shadow.
I felt my own body move, launching myself forward. Gale called for my name, but I didn't care, no. I needed to get to my brother, I made a promise.
"NAL! NAL! NO!" I yelled, desperation evident in my voice as I pushed through the other people. "Y/n!" He screamed back.
Most of then gave me and my brother looks of sympathy, some gossiped. "Greyback," they'd whisper. "Another one bites the dust," they'd continue.
The peace keepers pushed me back, preventing me from reaching my brother.
No, not like this. He's still so young, he still wants to gather lilys by the front of our house, he still wants to create flower crowns for me to wear.
He still wants to breath, to live.
The mayor looked at me, recignizing me almost immediately. He didn't know me, no. Rather, he knew my father, the man he put under the execution block.
Oh mother, I'm sorry it had to be this way. It seems another one of your family members will die at the hands of the Capitol.
"I volunteer!" I gasped, gulping down nothing. My mouth was dry.
"I volunteer as a tribute!"

Hi! I'm new to the Everlark fandom. Having only finished the books and the movies, I'm now working my way through all the meta I can find. And I love your blog, thank you for providing a thought provoking material.
There's one thing I'd like to read more about, and oddly enough, I haven't seen it covered much in the Everlark meta: Katniss' behaviour (attitude) towards the highjacked Peeta after he had been rescued and returned to her. Have you made analysis post about it, maybe? If so, would you please redirect me there? Or to any other posts you might know on the matter.
This part of the book and Katniss' attitude upset me so much, it felt like she failed Peeta. Failed to be there for him when he needed her the most, and only after Haymitch berated her, she felt ashamed. I was so sad that it took Haymitch to open her eyes, that she didn't find it in her on her own. I'm not saying she owed Peeta romantic affection, love or relationship, but I think she owed him human support and investment - and that she failed to give him. She chose to remove herself completely from the situation and fled. She only got back on track when Peeta started showing definite signs of getting better (after he arrived to the Capitol mission). At that point, I honestly wished for Peeta to heal but for Katniss to live him alone, once and for all. It devastated me so much, that I still cannot get over it. When they got back together in the Epilogue - it was logical and according to Katniss' nature, Gale was right (she needed Peeta to heal, she couldn't function without him, so she stayed with him) - but it felt like she didn't actively choose Peeta, but drifted towards him because he was there. It felt more like it was about what she could take from him than give him (because she loved him). And with the gap that the lack of her support for Peeta created when he was highjacked, this leaves me kind of bitter. I wish this thing was somehow addressed in the the book, but it never was. The films kind of played the whole thing down because in the film we didn't see Katniss' inner thoughts on the matter, which in the books were the worst part of it all.
Don't get me wrong, in the end it's good they grew back together and healed each other, I'm glad. I liked the epilogue, with all the hope it brings. They made each other happy. She made Peeta very happy, and it counts for something.
But my issues about the gap between the highjacked Peeta and the absent Katniss still stand.. And I haven't seen them addressed anywhere. Maybe there's another side to it which I overlook.
Maybe you or your followers don't mind elaborating or redirecting me to the existing discussions on the matter.
Sorry for the long rant and thanks a lot!❤️ I just can't stop thinking about THG and Everlark 😅
Hi! Welcome to THG/Everlark fandom! I'm glad you like my blog. 🥰
As for your question, yes, we've discussed this matter (the way Katniss treated Peeta when he was hijacked). Many times, to be more specific. I'll redirect you to some metas about this topic, but I want to talk about a few things beforehand:
First of all, I understand your upsetness at the way Katniss treated Peeta when he was hijacked. She really didn't treat him fairly, and it was a good thing Haymitch openned her eyes. But you're not considering one thing: She was suffering A LOT. What she did was selfish, but understandable. Can you imagine what it feels like to lose someone you love in the way Katniss lost Peeta? She never wanted to love anyone, because she was afraid of suffering. But she fell in love with Peeta anyway. And then he was ripped away from her, and brainwashed into believing he HATED her. It was so much for her to bear, and she was just a TEENAGER. Also, in the beginning, she couldn't do much to help him in his recovery, because he was a threat to her. He literally tried to kill her, and he couldn't even hear her name without freaking out. So, when we consider all of this, we can empathize with her and understand why she acted the way she did.
As for what you said about her choice for Peeta, I definitely don't agree with that. She didn't choose Peeta just because "she couldn't function without him". She chose him because she loved him, and had been loving him for awhile. What you said suggests she never felt anything for him and only chose him because she was emotionally dependent on him, and it's not true. She started loving him long before that. In Catching Fire, when she said she needed him and kissed him like she never did before, their relationship became 100% real. Nothing she did from that moment on was an act. If it weren't for the hijacking, they surely would have got together a lot sooner.
By the end of MJ, Katniss said she needed Peeta to survive, but it's not to be taken literally. What Suzanne Collins was trying to convey with that passage is that Katniss wasn't choosing only a partner, but also the future she wanted to have. She needed hope, and only Peeta could give her that. Gale couldn't. And yes, she made a choice. She didn't choose Peeta just because "he was there". She chose him because she loved him (don't forget she told him "real"), and needed him. And it would have happened anyway, as she said herself. She could have chosen to be alone (romantically) and to be only friends with Peeta, as they used to be before the Quarter Quell. She could have chosen to be with someone else. She could have chosen to try and approach Gale (she knew he was in d.2. She could have tried to contact him). But she didn't do any of these things. She CHOSE to be with Peeta. Despite all of her fears in regards to romantic relationships, she chose him. And this is one of the many evidences that she loved him. Also, the fact that she only talked about what Peeta could give her in that passage doesn't mean she wasn't willing to give him anything. Throughout the books, she helped him and saved his life so many times. And even when he was hijacked, at some point she recognized her mistake and started helping him in his recovery. She was a flawed person (who isn't?), but she cared deeply about him. And in the epilogue, Peeta said "we have each other", which suggests Katniss was there for him too (I'm pretty sure she was).
Well, this got longer than I intended to (haha!), but I hope I helped you understand these points. Now, as promised, here are the links to the metas:

I've been really enjoying your fic and it got me curious about how your campaign went??? I got the important parts (your Durge denied Bhaal, Shadowheart spared nightsong I think, Astarion obviously didn't ascend) but what else happened? Will we ever see any of the other companions?
Thanks for enjoying the story! I can say with pretty much certainty we won't be seeing any other canonical characters from the game, Jaheira, Minsc and Halsin would have stayed behind in Baldur's Gate, as well as Wyll. My Durge killed Lae'zel early in the game and Karlach also died at the end of my campaign.
Gale's character decided to go after the crown, and while he was the staple fourth member of my party the relationship had always been uh... Tense. This was before they apparently patched out how needy he was, but frankly it made for a really interesting story since i just kind of assumed his character was kind of a creep wearing a nice-guy's face. Also, to be fair, I DID fall for his "wanna see a magic trick" line but that just kindled the fire to my theory that he's actually a fairly manipulative person (and perhaps he's unaware of it). MIND YOU PLEASE that this doesn't mean i don't like his character - honestly i feel like I got a REALLY interesting side of him in my campaign and i wouldnt have it any other way - this was a party composed of the dark urge, Astarion, Shadowheart and GALE and to have us all turn down power and glory only for the goody-two-shoes wizard of the camp to turn kinda evil and power-hungry made for a really satisfying narrative.
... Sorry i ended up rambling about Gale LOL to actually answer the rest of your question, my campaign went like this:
I made a Fighter, champion sub-class, BIG hulking drow because i thought it would be funny. Because i went in blind I started off as a confused homicidal murderer who is a liiiittle weirded out about his urges but he doesnt stress TOO much about it. Is fairly standoffish and distrusting toward all of his companions which made for a weird start. Motivated by gold, killing things, getting this worm out his head and making off-color jokes. Ends up siding with the Tieflings because i also decided that, as a very hedonistic character who thinks we should be lunatics because we want to rather than because a cult is telling us to be, my durge would profoundly hate the absolute. As a male drow he also really hated Minthara so yeah, easy choice there. As mentioned above, I also killed Lae'zel when she tried to murder-suicide everybody.
I wasn't going to fuck anyone, believe it or not, so during the tiefling party i went with Gale because it SEEMED like he just wanted to show me something neat (it ended early because i failed his checks and i guess he can't get hard unless i can cast fireball). Also, at this point even though i made mostly "good" moral choices i *was* still a dick the whole time - despite this, everyone in camp wanted to fuck me BESIDES Astarion, which was so fucking funny and devastating that I decided my Durge would, from that moment on, turn on the charm and the flattery and make it his mission to bang him. So yes, they were manipulating each other. I don't have to explain why that made for a really really fun little dynamic. Also Astarion had to tell me he was a vampire through dialogue instead of biting me and i got to say "yeah duh" which was hysterical.
I finally banged him sometime during the underdark (didn't go to the creche at all) and during Act 2 I followed the same pattern of doing mostly the Good Thing while being arrogant the whole time, I fell into a kind of chaotic-neutral/true-neutral aligment and watched my little homicidal maniac cluelessly stumble his way into a hero's journey. I had also really grown to like Shadowheart at that point after having a really negative first impression of her character and she basically became my durge's best friend. Astarion also grew on me for all the reasons we know and love and he did his confession to me sometime in late act 2. I Never met Araj (though i think i mention her in the fan story only because her interaction is interesting) so I got the dialogue that isn't prompted by her encounter. I also had to "break up" with Gale at this point which boy that sure came as a surprise to me! I also didnt break the shadow curse.
Because I didnt kill isobel (Again, my guy didnt like people telling him what to do or not to do), my little butler guy made me wanna kill Astarion. I SWEAR this happened pretty late in game, maybe even in the first night in baldur's gate which i realize is unusual. Naturally I didnt and I decided that would be the turning point where my Durge decides to not just Go With The Flow of things but actively fight his urge and pursue its root cause. He tried to be more of a good person from that point on which was kind of a clumsy effort lol
He completely antagonized the emperor immediately upon him revealing his true identity, stole the orphic hammer from Raphael's house, betrayed Gortash after setting an "alliance" with him, killed Orin (she kidnapped the orphan and killed her in front of me because i failed the check :| ) stopped Astarion from ascending and helped Shadowheart kill everyone in the house of grief, i let her make her own choice regarding her parents and she decided to kill them. I also encouraged her to not immediately align with the Selunites just because of her past.
I got Astarion the thing that helps him read the necromancy book and i cannot tell you how satifyins it was that, after giving up unspeakable power by killing Cazador, that dude and his little ghoul army basically mauled Orin and her grandad for me practically by themselves while I was down on the floor with 1 health. PROUD OF YOU BUDDY.
Gale spoke to Mystra as well at some point and i swear I NEVER encouraged that guy to take the crown for himself. It was always either "do whatever you want" or "i think thats a shitty idea." At this point my Durge was super sick of him so they had a bit of a crappy relationship which may have something to do with how things turned out.
I betrayed the emperor, released Orpheus and when he asked if any of us wanted to be a mindflayer i went "Fuck No" big time and luckily the guy just did it for me. Chaos ensues, I kill the emperor and the absolute in an epic battle that took me like a whole day. I also killed Orpheus when he asked me to. Karlach died ( :c ) and Gale told me he was gonna fuck off to get the crown. In the final Astarion dialogue I told him we would find a way to get him to walk under the sun again.... AAAAAnd thats it i think? Man this game is huge lmao i swear i wasnt trying to be long-winded.

Hello! I love your blog and I have a question (two, in fact). What do you think is the meaning of “sonny boy” for Brian? His father used to call him like that and he calls his son like that too. Later on season 2 he calls Justin like that, which makes me think of Brian seeing Justin like his son. Actually, it's not the first time something like this has happened. At the beginning of S2 Brian tells Lindsay that he has TWO sons and then repeats the same thing ( i can't remember when). At first I thought it was cute and sweet but then it begun to make me conflicted. What do you think about this topic?
That's a really good question. I never got the sense Brian ever wanted or had any good feelings about his father.
I'm not sure if we should really deep dive into it because it may just be as simple as it was a term of endearment that was common in his house. Kind of like how some people grew up hearing sweetheart so they end up saying it, too. But I'm not sure. I personally really didn't care for it. It was bad enough Justin was so young but to put that spin on it was kind of weird.
In the beginning, I honestly thought they were doing it to establish Justin as just a fling or an unwanted responsibility to Brian. I always got the sense that Brian and Michael were really being set up to get together like the original british version so it was more referring to Justin as a kid who Brian looked at as such. But i think by the end of the 1st season they saw the chemistry between gale and randy and knew they had something special.
So I think it changed. By season 2, i feel like Brian calling him that was more of a term of endearment, and that caring about Justin was, in a way, a surprise to him as much caring about Gus was. He wanted to teach him how to be the best gay man he could be.
So Gus went home to live with Mel and Lindsay and Justin went home with Brian and both were, in a sense, starting their lives.
#qaf#Not sure if brian was really thinking that deep about it#britin#brian kinney#justin taylor#queer as folk#brian/justin#brian x justin#sonny boy

Let's talk about Hilda's dad
As you've seen from my latest posts. I've made stuff concerning Hilda's dad and I've mentioned him before. But now I'm speaking more about him. Especially after finding out he does exist in canon.
Many minutes ago or so I got a message from someone by the name of @smol-maru55 who I was nervous to speak to because I worried I might of bothered people with my posts. But Smol was very polite and actually offered me information that literally Luke Pearson himself answered in a review. I thank Smol for sharing me this because this changes quite some stuff.
Especially what's amazing this was before the show aired on Netflix. Including I think this is where the wiki on the show got this information. Luke talks about other stuff but he talk about Hilda's dad. If you guys don't mind I'm gonna share what he said. But I'm gonna keep the link to the interview to show where it came from. Especially he said other other interesting things too.
Luke Pearson: "There are too many stories about absent/crappy fathers turning a new leaf and showing everyone that they were always a good guy really. It's not something I'm interested in getting into. Hilda's dad's never been there for her, and his absence doesn't define her or her mum in any way, so I don't see him as an important character. I may touch on what his deal is eventually, but he's not going to get to swoop in and take up a lot of panel space."
That's what the main man himself said. Including like I said it changes my mind on some things. But I understand where he's coming from.
Related to the topic and I have spoke of this before. I do have head canon on Hilda's dad and it was around the early days of when I was in the fandom and they still are relevant.
Basically I had this idea for why Hilda's dad wasn't around was because of some reasons. Yet it's honestly like I joked about what the fandom would think would be quite depressing. Even for a show like Hilda. While it has it's serious moments. This would of been a bit much.
The idea I had for Hilda's dad is at first he did love his family, he loved Johanna, and he loves Hilda. But over time as Hilda grew up and became more adventurous, something changed.
Hilda's dad never liked the supernatural and how it was so normalized it was. Especially his daughter was embracing it and her attitude actually annoyed him. You have things like Twig living with them, Woodman visiting without permission. Including other things out there.
So I decided I guess at a point and reading a Johanna X Reader story(Yeah I'm saying that I'm not saying where) featured Hilda's dad and he left the family when Hilda was 5.
Basically he left her at a young age, told Johanna he just couldn't handle the stuff that was going on. He wanted a normal life. The guy left to go somewhere else most likely join the military. Which was something I wonder if I should make a thing but it's official I put him as a SAS which is kind of ridiculous.
He literally left because he didn't wanna deal with Hilda's adventurous attitude and other things. Which kind of says something....if the guy can handle one of the most harsh training for one of the toughest special forces in history, and he passes with flying colors....
But he can't handle Woodman and he almost tries to kill him with an axe. Which I joked about with @simonxriley that Hilda's dad wanted to kill Woodman at one point but Johanna got to stop him(because she even knows that's wrong and Hilda wouldn't want that). Especially it didn't phase Woodman and that freaked Hilda's dad out. Also Hilda found out later when Johanna told her.
The story for him I had was he would go to Trolberg after Woodman told him what happened. He visits them and it be this arc of how he wants to do better and be with his family again because he realized he was selfish. But it doesn't go that Luke talks about. This is part of the depressing part.
So the idea of the story of Hilda's dad trying to get together with his family is showcasing after years without them. He tried change but he can't. Because he thought everything would of been normal now in a city but Hilda didn't change and it's some what worse in Trolberg when he finds out the adventures Hilda has been in.
Especially Hilda's dad revealing to Hilda he actually left because of her. Because he didn't want a daughter who embraced the supernatural and all that around her. He has this prejudice against that stuff because it bothers him.
With the lesson being sometimes dad's aren't always as they seem. Even after they left they sometimes won't change and you have to move on from them. Because if they can't change why should you have them back in your life if they won't change for the better.
Basically with Hilda doubting herself that her own father abandoned her because of her personalities. But because of her friends and Johanna she learns it's okay and it's her dad's fault.
Hilda's dad was supposed to be an antagonist in a way. But not a villain despite he's a SAS ex one or not that's scary. He's a guy who can't mature and change, and just appreciate his daughter of who she is.
I wanna make this clear not every dad is shitty, their have been bad ones. But not every dad is bad I want to be clear on that. It was the concept of Hilda and Johanna moving on from him because he couldn't mature and be at peace with everyone. Especially how his daughter grew up.
Thinking in the end he just leaves, tells them goodbye and realizes this never worked. But seriously that sounds depressing like maybe that he does love them but he can't handle it, yet he can handle being an SAS.
Honestly thinking on this I definitely see why Luke didn't wanna do something like this. Even with my intentions being a different outcome. It's just a bit much unless the show takes on more serious subjects if Luke wants to or not.
In fact I even predict and think I could of made something like a reaction to Hilda's dad is that everyone if you love Johanna, if you ship Johanna X The Librarian, or if you love the show a whole lot and every character. The whole fandom just bands together to hate Hilda's dad because why the hell would you abandonded her own daughter because she loves flying on Woff's and she loves wilderness and everything it has to offer? Hilda is literally the best thing ever and a child that's a blessing.
I do think or yeah I remember. Their was an idea I had for an extra character. A younger male who would be a babysitter if Johanna wasn't around, and has a crush on Johanna and it's sort of like a child having a crush on a teenager at first. But basically it turns out that babysitter this guy that really cares for Hilda and her friends is basically the dad she always wanted and the kind of man Johanna always wanted because he actually cares despite he's weird, he tries his hardest.
I'm sorry for rambling, but again I totally get Luke on why he doesn't on go into detail of Hilda's dad. Especially the fact he admits it never had such a huge affect on Hilda and Johanna's life and they aren't defined by it. God I love he actually said mum but he is British.
Still would of been funny if well I originally wanted Craig Fairbrass as Hilda's dad but I want Kit Harington now so I can see all the stupid but funny headlines of how Jon Snow is in Hilda and people getting into the show and I'm like, "Me and a whole bunch of other fans were here first" it be this funny thing.
Also the younger babysitter guy would be voiced by Tom Holland or KJ Apa.
Really I would like to hear what was Hilda's dad's deal of why he's not with his family anymore. It's probably not gonna be like this but I keep thinking he and Johanna weren't a good match and he's actually a good guy. But still that's the thing Luke doesn't like.
I want him to be a good guy now voiced by Kit Harington because my God if a character like that existed on Hilda, he would probably be the worst character because he's more of a selfish jerk than other jerks like Trevor or the Marra. Especially Trevor is just a kid but still though, hope he develops in season 2. Especially the Marra are the Marra, their jerks, but they just want to cause nightmares for folks. Even though Kelly seemed to be alright because Frida showing some kindness towards her after giving Kelly her bunny back. Which might of well not fully changed but had Kelly appreciate Frida more.
Also Victoria Van Gale just kidnapped a baby weather spirit which was shitty. But considering her place was destroyed. She probably learned her lesson.
An asshole dad who left his daughter because he didn't like how she was is a bit too much even for me or....something.
Anyway I wanted to share that. I'm sorry this got long and me rambling.

Peeta Mellark x male reader
[ We all know who Katniss Everdeen is, but what if Primrose hadn’t been chosen but another boy from another unfortunate family? YOUR family. ]

Those words left my mouth without much thought. I wasn't thinking of the damned consequences at the moment.
Behind me was Kunal, an iron grip on my leg, bawling his eyes out. "Y/N! NO! NO! YOU CAN'T GO!" he pleaded, his cries getting louder by the second.
My hand ruffled his strawberry blonde hair, messing it up. "Let go, Nal," I said in the calmest tone I could muster. He shook his head, tears running down his cheeks, I cleared my dry throat, gulping down nothing. My mouth was dry as if I just ate a handful of salt, which was honestly a luxury.
My face remained stoic, the moment I show a sign of distress I know the people in the Capitol would eat it up like good bread. It entertains them, our suffering entertains them.
His hands slipped from my leg, gripping on my pants before he was finally taken away from me. "Up you go, Owl eyes," said Gale, his voice trying hard to remain steady. Beside him was Katniss, who was holding Kunal by the shoulders. She nodded, "Good luck, Y/n,"
I nodded, before looking back at the temporary stage. "Oh well, Bravo!" Effie exclaimed. "That's the spirit of the games!"
She was thrilled, finally seeing some action from this district. It made a pit in my stomach, I clenched my jaw. If only the roles were reversed, Capitol people fighting for their lives instead of us.
Oh, how funny that would be.
I strode to the stage, trying my best to look collected. The foreboding feeling in my stomach only grew with each step I took, my hands sweating as if they've just been dipped into water once I finally took my place.
"Do tell us your name," Effie said, her grin widening as she nodded, encouraging me to talk. It took all the will power I had to not strangle her.
"Y/n Greyback," I replied dryly, hoping it would set her off.
“I bet my buttons that was your brother. Don’t want him to steal all the glory, do we? Come on, everybody! Let’s give a big round of applause to our newest tribute!” she trilled, making me clench my fists.
Her words were met with silence. No one clapped, not a noise can be heard. Even the ones who would usually bet on who would wound up as a tribute didn't do anything.
I held back a smile, a surge of hope flowing through me. This was the most rebellious thing they could do without getting punishment of any sort. Silence.
Silence doesn't mean fear or that we're cowards. It meant that we do not accept this, we do not condone.
Just as my father always said, one does not need to shout to make a change.
The next thing that happened was even more of a surprise. Maybe it was because I was a son of a "rebel", maybe they pitied my family or maybe it was because I talked to the mayor's daughter.
Just one, then two, then a group almost all of the crowd put the three middle fingers of their left hand to their lips and held it out to me. It is an old and rarely used gesture of our district, occasionally seen at funerals. It means thanks, it means admiration, it means good-bye to someone you love.
My tense hands relaxed a sense of calm washing over me. We were united in a strange way, something I thought would only happen in my dreams.
"Look at him! Look at this one!" Hollered Haymitch, throwing an arm around my shoulder. His arm was quite heavy, understandable, he's a wreck. "I like him!"
The scent of alcohol from his breath was strong, or maybe he just smelled of alcohol. "Lots of. . ." He paused, trying to think of a word.
I cringed as he slightly swayed around, trying my best to not touch him. "Spunk!" he declared triumphantly. "More than you!"
He released me, staggering to the front of the stage. "More than you!" He declared once more, pointing towards the camera.
Was he talking to the audience? Or maybe he was addressing the Capitol. I wish it's the latter, that would be funny.
Just as he opened his mouth to continue, he fell down the stage, knocking himself unconscious in the process. I snickered slightly, my face scrunching up right after.
Thankfully, the cameras were all pointed towards him, watching as they whisked him away into a stretcher. I took this moment to glare back into the distance, watching the scenery.
There was the hill that me, Katniss and Gale were just at. It looked so peaceful, contrary to my day.
"What an exciting day!" Effie warbled, trying to fix her tilted wig. It looked ridiculous. Why would Capitol people, no, why would anyone wear that?
It looks ugly, like a beaten up squirrel. Though I'd be lying if I said it wasn't eye-catching, though, beaten up squirrels are also eye-catching. “But more excitement to come! It’s time to choose our next tribute!” she continued, putting one hand to the second bowl.
Her fingertips grab the first slip it encounters. I hoped it wasn't Gale or Katniss. I didn't want to kill them, not that I'd ever stand a chance.
Katniss was extremely skilled with the bow, she could probably shoot my head from miles away. Gale, on the other hand, was strong, compared to him, I had the strength of a broken twig.
"Peeta Mellark," She read. Oh no. Why him? Of all the people in this district. His father just "introduced" me to him this morning, not just that, I knew him.
I watched him make his way up the stage, I had a clear look at him this time. He had a stocky build, medium height, ashy blonde hair that falls in waves over his forehead. The shock of the situation registered on his face, though you could tell that he was alarmed by the way his blue eyes looked.
Like a prey knowing it'd be hunted.
Despite this, he still manages to climb up the small flight of stairs calmly.
Effie Trinket then asked for volunteers, but no one spoke up. He has two older brothers, I've seen them. But one is probably too old to volunteer, and the other just wouldn't. This was standard family devotion, what I'd done was a radical thing.
The mayor began to say the same old words he always says every reaping day. I couldn't help but think, why him?
I remember it all too well, that day, it was raining up a storm, the wind was howling. My mother and my brother were left at home, I was tasked to find food for us since my mother couldn't bear to show her face to the district.
How could she? Her husband has been executed for rebellion against the Capitol. One of the peacekeepers found weapons under his possession and he was killed. He managed to convince them to spare us, though sometimes I wished it hadn't worked.
Within a week of his death, we began to lose money, and therefore, food. Nobody wanted to help us, nobody wanted to associate with the family of a tyrant.
Shame, the family name bared shame. My mother didn't have the gall to go out and sell any of my father's things, my brother was too young to even understand what was going on.
I was angry. How could they have just taken everything away from us that easy? Who gave them the right to do that?
But at that moment, I couldn't afford to sit still and wallow in my resentment. That was a luxury I couldn't afford. not many could afford it either.
Starvation was a fairly common thing in district 12, though the amount of covering up the peacekeepers do no one a favour and fools no one.
There I was, a boy who wasn't even old enough to be registered into the pile walking around in the harsh weather, stripped away from my dignity and whatever money we had.
I found myself in the Mellark's bakery, being told off by the baker's wife, who was tired of having brats from the Seam paw through her trash. I would've screamed back then, but I didn't want the Peacekeepers called on me.
So I left without another word, sitting at a tree for some sort of cover from the harsh rain. I remember the snorts of the pigs beside me, and that was when I realized I'm no better than cattle; the people of Panim were no better than cattle.
My knees buckles as I collapsed onto the wet grass, shuddering from the cold and the harsh reality. Maybe I had gone insane then, but I vaguely remember talking to the pigs, ranting to them.
They didn't listen, they were too busy rolling in the mud. Looking back, I find this extremely funny, but maybe that's because I don't want to pity myself.
I didn't even notice a boy until the pigs actually rose to eat the pieces of bread thrown at them. I stared at him for a long while, mainly because of the burnt bread, the crust was scorched black.
But a red mark on his cheekbone caught my attention. Had they hit him for burning the bread? My parents have never hit me, I couldn't even imagine what that would feel like.
He took one look at the bakery as if checking if the coast was clear before he turned back to the pigs. Though instead of feeding the pigs he tossed the loaves of bread to me.
I watched him walk towards the bakery and closing the kitchen door tightly behind him. All I could do was stay silent, before shoving them up to my shirt, muttering a broken thank you as I ran home.
The loaves had cooled by the time I got home, but that didn't matter. We had something to eat. Mother looked at me, relieved I didn't die. She hugged me, apologizing.
I didn't care though, we had food, that's what's important.
And for the first time in weeks, we had a proper meal.
I was thankful, the fact that he'd probably burnt the bread on purpose never occurred to me until I crawled onto the bed, staring at the wooden ceiling. An act of kindness, someone still cared.
It was as if spring came overnight, fluffy clouds, blue sky, the warm sweet air. At school, we would always catch each other's gazes. I felt a tad bit bad, his cheek was swollen and his eye had blackened.
I couldn't come up to say thank you, instead, I watched him from a distance, contemplating whether I should. When I went to fetch Nal, out eyes met once more, I was about to mouth a thank you until Nal tugged my shirt.
He handed me a dandelion. He's always loved flowers. His love for it made me realize how I would get the food we needed. All that time I and my father spent in the forest won't be for nothing.
To this day, I still feel as if I owe my family's life to him. I had honestly given up, but he gave me something. Peeta Mellark, the boy who gave me bread and the dandelion, both gave me hope.
Maybe if I had said thank you all those years ago I wouldn't be feeling so guilty now. I could always say it but something about thanking him whilst I'm practically holding a knife against his throat seems dishonest.
The mayor finished his speech, telling us to shake hands. His were as warm and firm as those loaves of bread. He squeezed me as if reassuring me. Or maybe those were just nervous spasms.
We turn back to the crowd as the anthem of Panem plays.
There are twenty-four of us fighting in that arena, as grim as it is, let's just hope someone kills him before I'm forced to. I don't wanna kill the reason I've survived all those years.
