i designed the shadow to look like clouds to align with the headcanon of soul being the sky + the little stars inside it as a bonus. it's also a fate of the stars reference i'm afraid, the dark clouds that keep guard of the sky ..........

i think, in person, it would genuinely just look like a void over half of soul's body. it shows no dimension, making it hard to tell his arm from his body and etc, and it absorbs all light. kinda trippy actually now that i think about it but that's the point i suppose !! and of course there are wisps of clouds coming off of it at all times; it makes soul look a lot more ethereal than he is {and feels} .. it's not supposed to make total sense i guess

soul himself doesn't really feel it much but that's only because he's so used to it he doesn't notice. it mostly feels like mist/fog surrounding half of his body all the time. it doesn't affect his sight or sense of touch at all. if someone were to bump into his shoulder or shake his hand or give him a hug, they'll feel that mistiness as well. it doesn't get anything wet though because there's no real moisture, just weird shadow shit, unless it's raining.

AS A BONUS here's a headcanon i always forget to implement in my art: the stars in soul's shadow become dimmer when he's upset and brighter when he's well. sadness causes it to start raining, and anger causes thunder to rumble. piss him off enough and you might even get a lightning flash!!! this may have been learned the hard way. heart and mind also have something similar but soul's is a lot more noticeable
