Alt. Title: 死んだ美しさ:骨女 Hello everyone, welcome to another addition to the Yokai Bijinga Series. Today we are taking a look at Hone Onna. The Hone Onna, Laterally translated as "Bone Woman" is another ghost Yokai and like the last Yokai we covered Otsuyu. Much like Otsuyu, The Hone Onna is not a malicious Yokai, but a romantic Yokai who raise from the grave in search for her former lover. Hone Onna appears as a beautiful young woman at her prime, most likely had that image during the time that they died. Only those who are not clouded by love or have a strong religious convection can only see The Hone Onna in her true form: a routing, skeleton, form returning to her grave. The Hone Onna would rise from her grave at night and roam to her lover's house. The lover would be surprised to see the Hone Onna's return believing that the woman had died, and yet is happy to be reunited with The Hone Onna. That joy will blind the lover of Hone Onna's true form and the two would rekindle their affair. The affair however, will drain the lover's life force until he eventually dies and will forever be with the Hone Onna from beyond the grave, that is if the lover figures out the truth of the Hone Onna first. That's the brief summary of the Hone Onna and of course this is my own rendition of The Hone Onna. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy working on it. Of course I will leave a link to the description if you want to learn more about the Hone Onna. Till next time. Hone Onna Axel Doi's Website

The video accompanying this project (turn the subtitles ON ^^)
Say… would you do it ? If you were given the mean to permanently get rid of an insurmountable obstacle, would you take it ? Even if it came at the highest possible price ? And what does it say about you if you’re willing to destroy a life for your own comfort ? These are the classic questions you’d expect from stories about deals with the devil. And one of the most iconic deals of the 2000s is the one with the Hell Girl.

Ai Enma, the Hell Girl
Unlike the original Ai whose strangeness comes from her lack of reaction; I decided to base my Ai's strangeness on inappropriate reactions. Kinda like Lacie Baskerville in "Pandora Hearts" if you've read the manga up to her appearance. If I had the opportunity to rewrite the story, I wouldn't have made Ai a human who damned herself out of revenge, but rather a creation from the Master of Hell to harvest the souls of mortals filled with hatred. Except that by dint of rubbing shoulders with us even for short intervals, she ended up developing a twisted and slightly sadistic personality, especially when she sees that her targets have well deserved their dark fate. But she would also show compassion on several occasions, even more so when her victims have done nothing to end up in hell. But she has no choice, she must fulfill the role granted to her by her creator. Until he decides to get rid of her, or she decides to rebel.

Wanyūdo, the 1st Assistant
In my new version, I think I'll add a small, medium, and large-scale fire control power to him. After all, it's a good addition for a demon that looks like a fire wheel. Other than that, I don't think I'd change his backstory or personality. Wanyūdo as he is in the original is already a pretty good character and I'm not sure what else I could bring to him. Maybe an obsession with road safety, as a former wrecked carriage wheel.
Tumblr media
Ichimokuren, the All-Seeing Blade
In my rewrite, Ren can change parts of his body into razor-sharp blades (much like the weipons in "Soul Eater"). Except the more he transforms, the more he loses consciousness so he usually avoids doing it completely. He'd be the one who most easily manages to mingle with mortals -ironic for an object that has become alive. So yes, he still has trouble understanding their emotions, but he manages to take good care of their customers. Despite Wanyūdo's remonstrances who believes that their group should not get carried away by their personal interests. He'd also have a rather mischievous brother-sister relationship with Ai.

Hone Onna, the Bone Woman
I wanted to give her a greater use of her bones. She can actually make them come out of her skin at will and use them as weapons with more or less long range; kinda like Kimimaro in "Naruto". In my new version of the scenario, Hone Onna would be a vengeful spirit who specializes in tormenting people who mistreat women and children. So yes, bad parents and femicides, she is the one who'll take care of your case when karma catches up with you.

Symbology that reflects Sayuri deeply
The Final Girl: she is the sole survivor, unwillingly, kicking && screaming. This is an initial concept that is set up in the Past Arc, where Sayuri reflects that it will be a lonesome life, one that will endure great violence to overcome. The edge of her brutality shows an utter defiance to succumb to death even when she wishes so, her calloused nature to keep running when the rest perish, or how at the end of Shibuya there was nothing left - not even ash. It moves into a metamorphism that allows her to grasp that monstrous portion of her that she fears, the shadow like nature she denied as a girl, only to realize there is no point in running; she was always this destructive.
The Eclipse: While Tsukuyomi once ruled as the full moon, listening to every secret && providing the Kobayashi’s with a powerful danna, Sayuri is the opposite. It plays solely on the core conception that his birth was that of feminine && masculinity, finding no qualms about taking vessels of multiple genders. Tsukuyomi himself never viewed Sayuri as a woman that was docile or one to become a consort, only that of an extraordinary being who would find herself eventually, thus she is the Eclipse - comforting all in the benevolence of her nightfall && granting the sun a kiss before parting.
Fire: destructive, passionate, all consuming - a mark of absolute power but also the ability to recreate herself. From the depths of the inferno, Sayuri’s bondage is set ablaze, granting her a freedom she has sought desperately since youth. In her resurrection, she now becomes that of vengeance && justice. Born again as a Goddess who no longer shies away from her nature, instead embracing it while acknowledging her past failures, a heavy burden she must carry.
Death’s beloved: A woman kissed by the end itself, those who gravitate towards her tend to meet an untimely demise. There is a certain madness she inflicts or knowledge that oblivion shall come, it is her curse to endure, all of the Kobayashi women speak of a song they sing - one of infinite sorrow. This is Sayuri’s melody, even though she realized quickly, there was an uncanny fate that would cross her loved ones. She is also considered a mourner, keeping those who are dead within her heart so they live for eternity, if they were to be forgotten by others, she would assure their name && story keeps on within her. It is a symbol of her unconditional love, pure, full of remembrance && loyalty.
Rabbits: A small sickly girl she was in youth, frail, thin boned. Fear was rampant she would always remain in poor health, Hatsuko herself assured that Sayuri was always kept well, though in her maternal nature she coined the term ‘Kuro-Usagi’ for the child. Mentioning that her face resembled that of a rabbit, small chin, small nose, soft cheeks with large emerald eyes.
Miscellaneous terminology that will often be seen
She takes on the role of Persephone from time to time
Juliet Capulet, a tragic lover
Celestial, both embodying the moon && stars
Smoke && Mist, the Kobayashi’s live within secret; they tend to blend into all factions of life in order to gain information, this is more of a clan symbol than anything.
Wolves, gestures vaguely towards her being the moon - enough said.
