i love shen yuan's thought process:
"i can't possibly top cause that would be gay and i am straight, therefore i'm going to bottom for the man i'm married to. like a straight man would."
the mental gymnastics are insane

What's the most sad headcanon you have about Malfatto?
Mmm I’d have to say it’s my headcanon about his relationship with love.
Malfatto doesn’t understand love beyond a general feeling that he’s experiencing. It feels warm and soft, but sickening and distracting. His first experience with love was far from the loving showcase you naturally teach your child, as instead he was taught he was unloved, unwanted, and a bringer of bad things by existing.
Even just simple expressions of love (and lust, which he equals to love) were unfamiliar and felt horrible and wrong at first; like someone looking into his eyes, kissing him, any sexual encounters towards him, or even just placing a hand on his shoulder made him stiffen up — even if he did enjoy all of those a bit.
It was drilled into him that he was a monster and horrible thing that could only bring bad things, and that’s all he knew. That he could not be loved and his love was rancid, unwanted and wrong. He didn’t confront that truth because it always made sense. It explained the possessive jealousy and need for control, it explained why his love hurt him and others. It would take ages and a special type of person to ever get him to look at himself and even care to confront that.
A horrible man he is, but the worst thing to me is that he accepted he was a monster before he even got the chance to decide to be one or not. Then he chose to be one, chose “if I can not be loved I will be feared” and it ruined him, it made him irredeemable. That’s the most depressing thing about him for me.

in the fco au, how would they deal with homophobic comments from the media? i feel they would be especially more cruel towards marc
this is interesting because like yes. marc got the massive brunt of homophobic comments directed his way in the wake of sepang because he was younger and twinkier at the time and he was the one painted as both instigator and villian in many ways (esp in italy). but. it’s not like vale didn’t also get a lot of that same flavor of nasty pointed at him when he was younger for being somewhat androgynous and wearing his little earring and dying his hair and carting his boybestfriend uccio around with him everywhere. prejudice ironically does not discriminate. frankly there’s more value uccio gay rumors floating around from the late 2000s then marc throwing ass at the gay club ones from 2015. not that this is a motorcycle racers facing veiled homophobia competition lmao.
SOOO fco au. i actually think they both get blasted pretty hard here in ways that poke at their vulnerable little underbellies…. that same way childhood bullies always know which precise slur to call you before you yourself even know what you have goin on…. like oh they called me gay and they made fun of me for being gay and they were RIGHT. and i think it sucks! i think there’s a billion little shitty articles and fan edits (this would be 2016. for context on the global reality of cultural homophobia at the time every usamerican primetime television of a gay person had to have a full. gay is okay ! type monologue attached to them at some point…), that dig at a lot of their little neuroses… like it IS a sport with a traditionally masculine fanbase and i think they catch some strays !
but i also think they are both people who fundamentally don’t feel a lot of shame for being their weird little gay selves. vale never stopped wearing the earring or hanging with uccio, and marc is still doing homosexual pole dances to the public on national television basically biweekly at this point… they are people pleasers yes, but they also have a lot of integrity of self. they enjoy being liked, but on their own terms… and i also really truly do think it’s a LOT easier for them because they have a buddy in all this. someone to divert the tension… someone who ALSO has the insane goat credentials and can essentially silence any “can they perform on track” questions… so ultimately i think it’s another factor in the rosquez PR team up that dominates the fic where they’re being aggressively charming at the world writ large here… AND dorna would have incentive to help so i think it’s a lot of silly ass pr vids on the motogp instagram and stuff. rosquez plays the newlywed game and is alarmingly competitive about it. marc is trying to cheat. etc.

fandoms and homophobia
my recent post about griffith made me think. my main fandom saint seiya is full of pretty boys on both the protagonist and and antagonist sides, because the fandom has alot of girls and queer people their designs are generally appreciated plus its the way most of the characters are drawn so it could also be taken as that its just Kurumadas art style to draw bishounen characters Hades is a very pretty villian and he does not really have any redeeming traits, many of the other villians often have reasons for their actions and aren't truly evil but hades for the most part is just pure evil he just hates humans so he wants to take over earth but yet I never seen anyone in the fandom show strong hatred towards him or attack his fans. while berserk western fandom has a bigger number of straight cis men, and Griffith's feminine appearance stands out compared to the other male characters especially Guts who is very traditionally masculine in terms of looks, I feel Griffiths femininity and the signs of him being homosexual is the real reason he gets shit on so much, the western men feel threatened and afraid of feminine queer men, I literally seen them wish the worst violence on him and it scares me with what they would wish upon queer men in real life considering the anger they show for just a fictional character is rather uncanny. I never seen any antagonists in any form of media get the same level of intense hate to the point that fans of the character feel they cant even discuss them or show their appreciation in the mainstream fandom circle. it actually scares me.

I'm turning this over and over in my mind here but
In Season of Storms we see Geralt's reaction to male homosexuality as fairly neutral, which is pretty normal for Mr I'm Neutral And Don't Get Involved (tm), but it's mentioned a few times that that's NOT normal for the world at large.
Really the only speaking characters we see that are not-straight (gay, lesbian, or bi) are all mages, except for Ciri's girlfriend who is just a street-urchin-turned-maurader. Ciri herself, of course, is a mage.
But the mages seem to run the gambit from "*shrug* not my bed so idgaf" to "who hasn't dabbled with the same sex???" and Geralt too seem to be placed somewhere in here. Which as a joke I've said several times that you cannot convince me that a bunch of teenage boys locked away from the world in a crumbling fortress *wouldn't* find some way to pass the time with each other after they get tired of using their hand, but we never really get confirmation of this.
Geralt's reaction to Phillipa is even possibly non-relevant, as it's never really directly stated if he knows for sure that she's a lesbian. At the time, she's faking a relationship with Djikstra so it's possible even if he has heard the [true] rumors that she pretty much exclusively pursues women, he could think she's bi or that the rumors are false since she's "with" a man at the time. Triss, too, has slept with women, and later it states that that's just sort of a thing with a lot of the sorceresses but doesn't really give any other specific names, and Geralt either doesn't know or if he does know doesn't care.
But, then, in Season of Storms, we have two major events happen:
Geralt beats the shit out of his cellmate while in prison (and we know that only Nilfgaard does mixed-sex cells, so it's got to be another man) because he "was uninterested in his partner's sexual advances". So he's defended himself from a rapist, and is grumbling about how the longer he stays in jail the more he has to do this.
With this fresh in his mind, when he's released from jail, he immediately meets up with sorcerers who are, well, either gay or bi. While one is the villian of this book, the others exist squarely in shades of grey, just like the majority of characters and even Geralt himself. And... he's fine with it. He's friendly with them even after being told directly and to his face that they're all fucking each other. One, later, specifically seeks him out to say goodbye when he leaves, due to them having been old friends and, perhaps, because of a love and respect in his heart towards Geralt. And Geralt is specifically touched by this, happy this man came directly to him to say goodbye.
This is very different from how many other characters react in the book, and in many of these contexts it seems Sapkowski's saying that he not only thinks misogynists are idiots but homophobes too. Most of the characters reacting badly to homosexuality are also misogynists, and all of them are openly mocked or directly punished for such views by the narrative.

I'm in love with the Villianess
well, well, well. What an interesting cross section. This was a GL, set in an Otome Game. There's some good and bads. Honestly, the take away for me was just: yeah. I liked it. I'm going to continue to spoil a lot the story; You stop here if you want to check it out blind.
What I liked:
Open homosexuality.
This is a romance comedy,
Openly charming MC pursues Claire, the 'villianess'. She's your typical noble bully, and Rae, the protagonist adores this. a)On this: Claire's backstory really adds to her character. She's intentionally distant after losing her mother as a child on her birthday after a fight. She recognizes her behavior and cruelty as an undesirable character trait but she cant change because that would be softening her emotional walls. A+ design for an anime bully romance.
Some of the fights were neat, the magic world building was lazy but I did get excited for some battles. a)On this: Claire is openly pursued by a slightly older girl she calls "sister". They grew up together and elder "sister"'s family took Claire in, but are not related by marriage or blood. There is a fight between Rae and Manaria, the cool older lesbian, over who deserves to be with Claire; I got excited for this and wasn't disappointed. They did some neat spells, and ultimately Rae loses the right to serve Claire as the set up for the final arc.
What troubled me:
The first actual villians were sibilings, twins I think, who were doing black magic or something so they wouldn't be related so they could be together. Yes. a) on this- The female character in this incesituation is the only maid that Claire grew up with. She's the only maid who stayed with her long enough because of Claire's personality. So when she's revealed to be a perpetrator she is exiled for treason; and just... Yea. together with her brother/lover this maid gets exiled. Gross.
There was a commoner uprising. Which gets mishandled narratively, there's still a king and a kingdom at the end of the season so... Gross.
Yea the love rival is called sister. I don't know the language I watched it in so I would like it to be a mistranslation but I cant say. They did grow up together and she's Claire's "first love". So.. Gross.
Love rival, Princess Marania, admits to raping her maid. There were no consequences and the maid fled her employment and disappeared from Marania's life. But yea. Not remorseful enough for redemption and then not being able to find this girl made Marania sad, so she slept around. That's her backstory. Gross. a) Marania's design is great in all other aspects and I really liked her until she reveals herself as a rapist. This was a betrayal to me. Rude.
Additional Notes:
This was good enough I'd watch it again. Once.

any thoughts / doodles of villian arc will 🙏
i am . working on it my brain is frying. the gist is that he does things that help others but he does still focus on what helps him more like. he heals a person because that fulfills his desires not the other person's . and to an extent this isn't really villainy its just being a self-serving person which is normal. but depending on the context of a story a self-serving person or a selfless person could be villainous
the "arc" of the villain arc is probably just , within asklepios au, realizes he can commit crimes against god, an unfulfilled wish he'd had for years, and he turns to impiety which he realizes didn't threaten his motives as much as he'd originally thought
maybe there will be a breaking point like when eurydice died and orpheus started a heliocentric religion and also advocated for homosexuality. idk
