The Case for Sasquatch
Tumblr media
Among other projects I currently have in progress, I recently began outlining a book about American folklore and the place and uses it can have in the practices of Neo-Paganism. It’s not exactly a topic wherein one would expect to find a section on relict hominoids, more commonly known as Sasquatch in North America, but once my gears started turning, it made a lot of sense. Now, before you roll your eyes and scroll on by, hear me out.
The chapter is tentatively titled “Cryptid Consciousness” (an obvious play on “Krishna Consciousness”) and the chapter suggests the potential power in what the creatures represent. Cryptid lore is essentially the fairy lore of America and anyone who has ever been curious about magical practices that are alive and well today knows that there are plenty of books on fairy lore and the magic that can be done with it. So, what “magic” can be done with Bigfoot? Well, I will tell you.
As I have stated, my position on relict hominoids and other so-called “cryptids” is a loud and confident, “I don’t know.” I am completely agnostic. Until I am looking any of these creatures in the eye, I have no idea if they truly walk among us or if they’re just folktales and urban legends. However, when you take the time to really examine “Bigfoot”, what is he/she/it?
Indigenous Americans have known of these creatures for centuries. Many tribes saw the “Hairy men” as another tribe of people. In many areas, these stories are still being passed down. There is actually a wonderful of “Sasquatch Tracks” about this (ST 044). I’m not saying that this is evidence of a corporeal existence, but these stories are significant in that they gave us an insight into what these beings symbolize and how that fits in to today’s practicing Pagans.
Many people who come into Neo-Paganism are looking for a way to connect with the natural world around them. Modern humans are getting more and more disconnected from nature and, quite frankly, from reality altogether. (The internet is not a real place people. Get outside, walk on the beach, touch grass, dance in the rain.) It is this desire to reconnect, to find harmony and balance with nature that relict hominoids come in. Real or not, they symbolize that connection, that ability to live in total harmony with our natural environment.
If they are real, they have the ability to do everything they need to do to survive and not leave a trace. Modern humans can’t do that. We can’t resist the compulsion to leave something to prove we exist. Don’t believe me? Take a walk in a local park. Count how many trees have people’s initials carved into them. You don’t see Sasquatch doing that. You don’t see Sasquatch at all, but that’s the point. If they exist, they don’t leave anything behind that would tell us definitively that they’re among us.
Honestly, the more I think about this, the more I am starting to lean toward the corporeal reality of relict hominoids. That “Crimson Peak” quote I used in my post about ghosts can almost apply to Sasquatch, too. In fact, there have been more Sasquatch sightings reported in the last century than there have been sightings of wolverines, yet we have no trouble believing that wolverines exist. Make that make sense because I can’t.
If we choose to accept the existence of Sasquatch, my suppositions that they live so harmoniously with nature that they don’t leave physical traces, which is entirely possible, it explains a lot. It explains why they were able to live alongside pre-colonial Indigenous Americans because they lived very much the same way. Take only what you need, waste nothing, leave no trace. It explains how they have managed to avoid the trackers and scientists attempting find them. These wild places are their home. They know every nook and cranny. I don’t care how much survivalist training you’ve had or how many books on tracking you’ve read. If someone or something doesn’t want to be found, they won’t be. Their way of life also explains why they really want nothing to do modern people, We’re greedy, prideful, wasteful hairless apes. They have no use for us because we don’t respect the land.
Again, this is all speculation. I don’t know what they are or if they are.  No one really does. All we have are the stories we hear and one ancient video clip from a guy who was allegedly caught with his proverbial trousers down as he was intending to perpetrate a hoax when an actual “Bigfoot” (forever known as Patty) walked into the frame. I don’t call it irrefutable evidence, but the late John Keel had printed on his business card, I’m “Not An Authority On Anything.” I’m just weird chick tossing ideas out into the void.
Until next time, my strangelings.
Peace, love and cheesecake.

My brain just clicked on this with something new, I barely remember generations' full plot but ooh well
Word vomit on mobile time yay 🖖
Sorren the antagonist of generations, is only so because he's trying to return to the nexus. The same nexus he was pulled out of the same day kirk fell into and was legally declared dead. His "I will do anything I can to reach this goal I dont care what damage I might leave in my wake" in his desperation to return makes him the antagonist that must be subdued.
He's not the leader of some planet or far off place place trying to destroy a different planet that would cause a war, or any of the extreme movie villan types. He's a dude that's ego and selfishness are hurting others, for no other reason than to return
And why?
He is a widower. A wife who died during childbirth along with the child if I remember correctly?
The nexus gives the people that go inside it anything they could ever dream of
And so the nexus gives him his wife
Not literally of course, it's all in the mind, but it's so vivid it might as well be. This is how he copes, and when he's torn away from that in the prolog in generations, it's like he's been torn away from his love all over again. No wonder he has to return, it might be the only part of her he has left
What does this have to do with the original post? Well...
Does "my partner has died and i must find a way to get her back no matter the cost" ring a bell?
That's why it would have been far more cinematocally engaging because the villains entire goal not only is similar to Kirk's past pursuits. Tng characters remarking something like "sorren stole a shuttle to get to the asteroid? Kirk stole the whole enterprise to run to genesis". but the end that they're reaching out for is the same, even if it was unintentional for kirk.
My partner has died (several times technically) and in my grief i try and find them (kirk is successful sorren doesnt). I fall into the nexus, which recognizes the fear of being torn away from my love like before, and gives me my dream life of a warm home, energetic pets, quiet peace, and my partner by my side for the rest of my days (which is actually quite a long time, since the nexus prevents or slows down aging iirc.
And technically this does happen, kirk is in his Will shatner cabin making breakfast, for a lady we don't see,, and only hear a few sentences about,,, specifically making her favorite meal so it cushions the news that he's going back to starfleet,,,,,,,, this is the memory he is reliving when picard meets him, and it's like.. . Even they both recognize how sad that is, that his history of having to choose between work and a love life and choosing the enterprise every time, is the memory that he is experiencing
I know mr nimoy didn't want to be in the movie (good on him), but I really feel like the scenes with kirk in the nexus are so out of character it's basically shatner acting as himself with the things he likes, but something related to starfleet or the enterprise or fuck, even just being with his friends and his son is alive and loves him or fucking anything that could have been a very emotionally compelling (and revealing) moment, if what Kirk's dream life was wasn't just shat being narcissistic
On the enterprise again with the crew, on the family farm in Iowa, his fucking brother and son and dead family are alive... or nestled in a log cabin making breakfast for your partner... who comes down stairs and greets you... with a sleepy rub to his eye and a delicate touch of two fingertips... moving to the kettle to make two cups of tea... who is your bonded th'ya'la and you've loved since you first met all those years ago
Picard easing kirk out of the nexus, able to make him recognize this wasn't real, but it could be, is what manages to pull him away from the siren song he fell prey to so long ago. Unlike sorren, who was ripped out of the nexus and told he wasn't allowed back into eden, who had no wife to be with in reality. Comparing the two and their similarities/differences could have made for a very cool plot, told from the picard/tng perspective so it's learning about both side by side
Or something along those lines
Thinking about if kirk actually was to fall into the nexus and picard found him and brought him back into reality 80 years later...
Picard seeing kirk's dream existence as living in a cosy home with his favorite dog while making breakfast while picard tries to talk to him, only for spock to come down the stairs in a cosy bedrobe like he just woke up, much to picards immense confusion. It's only then while kirk looks up with so much affection while spock makes a comment about them not expecting any visitors so far in the country - while greeting his jim with a little morning finger kiss - that picard notices the blend of vulcan and terran aesthetic decorating the house. Realizing then that Kirks dream life to live with spock in quiet peace...
Using that to his advantage to tell kirk this isn't real and that's not actually spock (to which he receives a raised vulcan brow), but if kirk comes back to reality with him to stop sorren he can be reunited with spock, the real spock, who has refused to believe kirk is dead and has been searching for him for 80 long years, and that leaving the nexus means they could find each other again and share in this vision in reality and together. That makes kirk pause and after some time finally agree to come back (even the nexus' version of spock informs him of the logic of returning to reality, because of course he would)
Kirk not actually fucking dying at the end of generations because I still refuse to believe they did something so dumb. Reuniting with his t'hy'la who is so overcome with emotion a tear actually escapes his eye as he cradles kirks head, which kirk gently wipes away with a finger before they kiss and embrace like on genesis when they found each other before.
Kirk not having aged for 80 years which actually lines up with the vulcan's longer lifespan so they're pretty close to the same page now and can grow old together in a way that would have been impossible otherwise
Spock telling picard he owes the man a life debt for discovering the half of his soul the universe had told him was extinguished
I just want these boys to find a happy ending okay...

Studies of mitochondrial DNA suggest the Strepsirrhini suborder, containing the ancestors of Madagascar's lemurs, diverged from our own Haplorhini suborder approximately 64 million years ago, which implies that a common ancestor was present before this time, but not a great deal earlier.

Wait, hold on a second, has the Daycare Attendant been a REALLY OBVIOUS continuation of the puppet design this whole time??? And nobody told me???
Lankier than the other animatronics, does not look like part of the same group, more hominoid, stripes on the limbs, FNaF 2 the puppet was supposed to look after children almost like a childcare attendant, & aren’t the DCA associated with theatre? Puppet.. theatre…
Why haven’t I heard anyone mention this? Is it so damn obvious that they just never thought to clarify, or am I making connections that never existed?

Did a father of five fake his own death? And what’s Bigfoot got to do with it? Read “The Truth Is Out There” (issue no. 45) to find out:
Bruce considers himself a cryptozoologist, someone who searches for and studies animals whose very existence is disputed. Unlike some of the more eccentric types in the field, Bruce is organized and methodical. He has published papers every bit as dry as those in other areas of study—they just happen to be about relict hominoids, sea serpents, and lake monsters.
His specific obsession with Bigfoot began when he was a kid, more than 50 years ago. In fact, it was right around the time his father disappeared. Bruce is reluctant to allow that the two things might be connected, but it’s hard to see it any other way.
Bruce hasn’t looked for the truth about what happened with his father nearly as hard as he’s looked for Bigfoot. Still, the truth keeps finding him and his family. Over the past five decades, revelations about a man who left home one day and never came back have taken Bruce and the rest of the Champagnes by surprise—again and again and again.

Clothing and Decoration
Tumblr media
By Oguenther at German Wikipedia - Own work, Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=15134201
Humans have been decorating themselves at least 100,000 years, perhaps as long as 300,000 years, beginning with ochre, a pigment that comes in shades from yellow to purple. Ochre was used for tools and to create pigments that decorated the skin, paint cave walls, and as part of burial rituals, even medicinally. The evidence we have are depictions of human figurines made of limestone and decorated with ochre.
Tumblr media
F. d’Errico [modified after d’Errico et al.
Beads of various materials, starting with shells and stones, spread widely with some speculating that trade of beads is what helped with the development of spoken language. It's even possible that beads go back as far as 500,000 years, to Homo erectus, though that is debated. Whether the beads were used in adornment or used as a type of currency or trade medium only is not known for sure, but beads are widely distributed and the materials show evidence of travel (for example, marine shell beads found in landlocked areas). It is thought, though, that wearing of beads came after decoration of the body with ochre.

The earliest depictions of clothing we have is around 41000 years ago, with the Venus of Hohle Fels, which was found in Sweden, though it is possible that the decorations on the body of the Venus figurine is ochre or tattoos. Interestingly, the oldest known musical instrument, a bone flute, was found near the Venus figure, indicating that fully behaviorally modern humans lived in the area.
Based on studies of head and body lice, humans began wearing clothing about 107,000 years ago. Part of the need for clothing was that this time was that this was during the start of the Last Glacial Maximum, when temperatures started dropping and glaciers began overtaking the northern latitudes. Humans, both Neanderthal and Homo Sapiens, had spread quite far by this time. Humans developed in the steppes of Africa and weren't well adapted to the cold, with no real body hair to hold in body heat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
F. d’Errico.
Due to the organic nature of clothing, it's difficult to say for sure when exactly clothing began to be worn and what it was, but we are relatively certain that the first clothing was likely hides of animals. We have found stone and bone tools used to scrape hides from the Early and Middle Pleistocene. These tools also hold evidence that Ochre was used to color the hides. Awls, which were used in southern Africa approximately 73,000, years ago show that hides were pierced beginning very early. These awls show wear patterns of being used on soft, well-worked hides, though whether for clothing or bags, we can't know for sure. These awls spread to Europe by 45,000 years ago, though likely manufactured by Neanderthals based on the theorized distribution of various hominoid groups and remains in the locations they were found.
The benefit of using an awl to create holes in leather is that it can be shaped to the human body, making it more efficient at keeping the body warm, thus reducing the number of layers that need to be warn and allowing humans to spread further during the Last Glacial Maximum.
Approximately 40,000 years ago, in the Denisova Cave, at the time inhabited by modern humans, the first evidence of awls with eyes, or what we now know as needles, appear. This indicates that sewing together clothing, or the decoration of clothing, was becoming more common and more efficient. These needles spread widely, either through trade, contact, or independent development widely, even to the Americas and Australia. It is thought that this led to clothing being decorated more elaborately with beading and other forms of decoration.

While plant fibres don't generally fossilize, we do have some early evidence of people using them as early as 50,000 BCE, possibly used by Neanderthals, in southern France. There is are scattered imprints of cordage and net imprints in clay. As the planet warmed and the Holocene began, weaving of plant and animal fibres, depending on the local climate and availability. While weaving may have begun as early as 25,000 BCE, flax cultivation began around 8000 BCE, and the first evidence of weaving in 6000 BCE, used as a grave wrapping in Çatalhöyük. Approximately 3000 BCE, sheep were domesticated and bred for wooly fleece as opposed to hair in the Near East. In the Indus Valley, cotton was domesticated around 2500 BCE. Evidence of weaving beginning around 10,100 BCE have been found in the Americas, specifically Guitarreco Cave in Peru, where cotton and llama and alpaca were domesticated. Intricately dyed and woven silk was well developed as a craft as early as 2700 BCE, with the first silk reaching other places in the world nearly a thousand years earlier with the very first evidence of silk being used at all dating back to 8500 BCE.

It seems that civilizations may have developed weaving independently, so the first type of loom is difficult to figure out as some locations show that floor looms were first, while others show evidence of hanging looms, and yet others, it seems that what is now known as a 'back-strap loom' was first, while other locations show the use of a floor loom first. Given that these objects were made mostly of organic matter, the evidence comes from art, loom weights (stone or clay weights used to keep the warp threads taut while the loom was in use. Egyptian art shows the use of floor looms, Grecian urns show the use of warp-weighted looms, many native cultures used back-strap looms prior to European contact and colonization. From what fabrics that have been found, each culture developed its own method of creating decorated fabric, either through the application of decorations or through the weaving of the fabric itself, as well as multiple weights of cloth, from fine gauze through thick rugs out of nearly any plant or animal material that could be twisted into yarn.

"To be sure, the modern sasquatch is largely the product of a European-derived culture, as possibly to an even greater extent is the Australian yahoo; accordingly, traces of the European wildman are discernible in both figures. Yet the sasquatch is partly rooted in Amerindian representations of hairy hominoids, even though the relationship between these, which are often described as small, and the giant sasquatch of the popular Canadian and American imagination is hardly straightforward" — Gregory Forth

If the slot for the day 22 of the monster stories is still open could we get eldritch abomination? Maybe they could be giving their lover weird mind bending gifts? (And could it be sfw/fluff please)
December Christmas Monster Stories
Dec 22.) Eldritch horror x reader
I am so sorry about how late this is. It's short but I hope you enjoy it.
No warnings juat fluff. Minors don't interact
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
Having an eldritch monstrosity for a partner was intresting to say the least. They could never truly show you their true form as you would go insane from the sight, they often stayed as a inky black glob with writhing tentacles covered in too many eyes. This is apparently the closest to their form they can get without breaking your mind. Sometimes they take on a more hominoid shape. Though you didn't mind the little blob form, it honestly looked a little like an octopus, the ones with short arms and a big body.
They always want to cuddle. The cuddles are nice but the black goo they leave behind isn't very appreciated, it stains everything.
Human holidays were of interest to them though they couldn't get a proper understanding of them. You gifted them things like the tasty morsels they love so much, the tasty morsels being marshmallows. Or audio books they had been wanting to listen to while you were busy. They got you an orb that warps the room it's in if left uncovered and a vase that whispers the secrets of the dead.
Strange but they looked so happy giving you the gifts. They said the room looked much more homie after the orb had warped everything lightly before you had covered it back up. It made you wonder what their home looked like.
The rest of the night was spent cuddling while watching silly Christmas movies. Their favorite being a nightmare before Christmas, they chitter whenever jack sings.
On the bookshelf sat the vase whispering facts about forgotten holiday traditions. You were pleasantly surprised by it.

Hollow!SMG4 introduction
Realizing I should make these <;/3
Tumblr media
SMG4 - CASE 1 Species: Slime Age: 24 Gender: Male Height: 5"10
Smg4 is a slime hominoid like creature depicted wearing a blue shirt, white overalls and gloves, and brown boots. He seems to be somewhat of the leader or main person at least in the group of monsters found in the manor, he seems to be overall pretty friendly towards others in the manor only sometimes lashing out at them from what we have gathered. His behavior towards humans is a little different. Though he's not aggressive towards them on first sight he does get a little iffy, trying to not interact or even look in their direction. Now if said human were to interact in a friendly way, he doesn't seem to have a problem speaking back in the same tone. But if interacted with in a hostile way he may try to run away from the scene. If this does not work, he will fight back. He has been also seen not needing to eat or drink for several weeks. Maybe he doesn't need to, and he just does it for fun. Answer unclear. His body is composed of a slimy material (hence his species) making him somewhat stretchy. He also seems to fear the water, it could be the fact that slime is very dense, so possibly the answer is simple. He just is incapable of swimming. More documents will be made. one of my favorite things about world building is just the fact that you can add or do anything you want as long as you can make it make sense. I so often see people limiting their world to a basic theme or idea. Nothing else, practicing moderation is important yes, but it's about what you can add, pirates and Samari existed at the same time.
Believe it or not but a world is truly realistic if there's a billion random cultures around the world. If you can take two completely different places set then next to each other and not be able to guess they came from the same world, that's realistic. It's not about a swamp being next to a jungle, or your deserts being in the right place, it's about putting stuff there. As long as it can be justified and interacts with a reasonable portion of a world in an interesting why. Add it!
Ill share my own, I've been making a world of sentient bugs, hominoid bugs that are as accurate as possible to their real-world counter parts. kingdoms are fun to make yes, but what about some strangely boys in the swamp.
Tumblr media
I had an idea based on an event earlier in the world, where the sun just disappeared for a while and even 500 years later the ramifications are still in effect. But what if a bunch of pirates where stuck at the now frozen sea? What if somehow, they meant a strange being that taught them to survive, what if so long after words they forgot they were even pirates to begin with? Their history become told though shanties. Their outfit's at first made to endure the cold slowly began to include symbols from their ancestors, eye Paches, Hooks, the colour black, not even understanding what they were, the masks the pirates wore to hide idents become idents.
But how the hell am I going to include that? No where else does something like that happen, I've already go kingdoms, locations and history for all of them, does this even fit?
But then I said yes, the world shifted changed. But you control how, a world is never big enough if you ask me. Add same crazy stuff like that spend 5 days working it in then take a step back and think about what they add. Its so fun

Creatures that are way bigger than normal are somehow naturally scary, and that includes our closest hominoid relatives! I came across this article from last year, that discusses Gigantopithecus blacki, a hominoid that may have been about ten feet tall when standing! They died out a few hundred thousand years ago, practically a blip of time in the history of life on our planet.
