Homestuck: Beyond Canon Upd8 for March 23, 2024

As James promised, we've got a second post for this month. No news or anything to go along with it, so let's just jump straight in!

Jane is evidently not handling things well.

Ah, good! We've got a link to the previous conversation. This can be very helpful for dealing with timeline shenanigans in the middle of pesterlogs. I just hope they're not too worried about our ability to put together where we are in the story. I mean if we've stuck around this long . . .

Jane's paranoia is building, but she appears to have not noticed Jake is spying on her. Still she seems somewhat overconfident in her abilities. To be fair, she has been dodging and surviving assassination attempts since childhood.

Wait! Jane on the moon? I thought that wasn't canon! Well, if anything on Earth C past the credits are supposed to be canon at least. I wonder if that means we might return to some of the sprite shenanigans?

Oh wow! This is a tirade and a half! The worst part is a lot of it is true. We know Jake wasn't the best parent for Jade, and we know now about Joey and Jude. But still, I got the impression Jake was much more in Tavvy's life than Jane was. And seriously! Forcing a premature pregnancy with Life powers? The hell! Worst part is when it comes to Homestuck's worst guardians, I'm pretty sure that only barely breaks top 5.

I'm dying! Jake is doing a Gamzee impression and Dirk can't take it!

Jegus, Tavvy is still very much definitely in the running for worst childhood though . . .

Of all the things to say . . . No! No Jane! You don't get to claim any LGBTQ+ Allyship!

Still, although the Candy timeline is pushing things to an extreme, this is a side of Jane I don't think ever got considered. Jane has been training all her life to be a public figure, to be an Empress really. And as much as I love them, a bunch of idiot teenagers created a civilization and then just let it build for 5,000 years. From the previous iteration of beyond Canon, it seems the Exiles were the true guides until the kids returned.

And Jane saw a group of adoring, worshipful people greet them and knew she needed to step up. It just sucks she couldn't bring herself to truly include the Trolls in that.

Yeah, I'm with Dirk on this one. Wow! Jane blamed Jake for Dirk's death. Just, wow . . . And here I thought Jake was the one who never truly understood their friends.

All and all this was a really painful conversation. I think this one might have been worse than the one between Jade, Rose, and Kanaya. Why do some of the worst conversations in this story take place between Jake and Jane. From reading this, I'm really getting the impression they've always been more codependent than actually in love.

Oh fuck! That really fucking sells it!

I'm at a loss for words. I don't know if this is going to actually stick, or what Jake will actually do when I press, "Page of Hope: Rise up." but that was one hell of a way to realize an epiphany.

Wait, no! That's it! Like I get the reference but really! We're just going to open the door and leave it there!

Oh who am I kidding! How can I be in this fandom and honestly complain about an ending to an upd8 like this. Yes, I want it to keep going! Yes, I wanted a flash video to start! But how many times has this story kept me waiting? Let's just hope we don't have too much longer.

It’s that knee-jerk reaction of “everyone is going to hate me because of homestuck” that was prevalent for a large part of my tenure here. Which I KNOW isn’t true, especially if I tag everything, but it’s like, perma-shame because that was the MO for so long.

It’s also like? Whenever the Focus comes onto something I tend to just ruminate on it because I’m afraid of being perceived? It’s like the same reason I don’t share these things with my parents, they’re going to get a misrepresentation of my feelings. Like anytime I’ve got a guy on my lockscreen I have to explain no I don’t have a crush on him, I want to stick him in a blender, run him through cheesecloth, and see what the chunks are. I want to chew him like the squeaky toy.

i thought you had two blogs [this one and one for art] but then i saw another blog. is it like a blog franchise?

So when I joined tumblr in the year 2011, I didn't know what fandom was. My only blog was onionjuggler, and I used it mainly to follow college and high school friends. Despite reading all of Homestuck, I remained fully unaware of fandom until 2017 when I played Mass Effect and became obsessed with a video game.

In order to not annoy the hell out of my real life friends by reblogging a thousand pictures of Shepard, I made a fandom blog. I still didn't understand fandom or even that the actual purposes of tags on tumblr was for finding fellow fans or whatever, but I was having a good time.

In the space from 2011 to 2024, all but around six of my RL friends have left tumblr, and those six probably go online like once a week. Meanwhile, my fandom habits picked up, and I made a bunch of online friends. This has had the unfortunate effect of my "main" blog being followed by like 6 people (ilu all tho), and my fandom blog having far more people I'm regularly in contact with through this site and people who follow me for whatever reason of their own.

Unfortunately, tumblr doesn't let you switch main blog vs side blog, which mean my follows, asks, and (until a couple months ago) replies all come from onionjuggler. This has confused people for seven years now. The only way to fix it is to delete the original main blog which will promote Baejax to main, and I'm unwilling to nuke onionjuggler because it is my old friends home for aging millennials.

My third blog is actually attached to a completely separate account because I realized my relationship with getting notes on my art made me feel pretty terrible, and I wanted to make it so i can't check that sort of thing on my phone AND so I couldn't compare the notes my reblogged art was getting to the art I personally made. It helped a lot. I highly recommend this for anyone having similar feelings.

Is it a franchise? Probably not. Is it a mess? Yeah. For a while I tried to keep "juggler" in the fandom blog title to make it more obvious, but people started calling me 'Jugs' and for obvious reasons I couldn't let that continue.

Fanfiction, Writing, and.. eugh, Shipping: A Highschooler’s Twelfth Rant

I *love* fandom. Some of my main interests are Danganronpa, Homestuck, Omori, The Hollow, Eddsworld, Lego Ninjago, and the list goes on.

Another thing I absolutely love about fandom is shipping. I absolutely love shipping.

GamTav! EriSol! IshiMondo! KomaHina! DaveKat! SunKel! ColeKai! KaiDam!

I like shipping.

And with shipping, comes fanfiction.

You know the Wattpad to AO3 pipeline or whatever it’s called? Yeah, I started out on Wattpad and found out about AO3 sometime last year. I love fanfiction. I can’t say it enough. My screentime says i’m on “safari” for about 6+ hours, and yeah…. Yeah that’s pure AO3.

I love reading fanfiction, and on April 15th, 2024, I wrote my first fanfic! (It was for GamTav)

I really love writing fanfics, and I’ve written quite a few! I love writing in general, so fanfiction (along with being a bisexual, trans teen) was bound to enter my life. (And I love it)

So, I like to write fanfics, but mainly for the GamTav ship. And I made a rant a while ago about my lost EriSol fic (I’m still very distraught about that).

Recently, I’ve been working on another GamTav fic, and it’s… really self indulgent. And a tad venty. But eh, whatever! My trauma makes a good fanfiction, folks!

And that’s all there is to say on the matter.

Something that annoys me in shipping is, of course, the bad side of it. I’m talking the proshipping. It’s very bad.

I feel like it’s fucking OBVIOUS that proshipping is bad. Proshipping is the shipping of problematic romantic pairings, and it’s a huge problem that I wish didn’t exist. It’s a non-issue to just BE NORMAL.

And something that REALLY annoys me, is shipping wars. I’m a KomaHina (the slash ship between Nagito Komaeda and Hajime Hinata from Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Dispair) shipper, and as you may know, if I admitted that in 2020 I would’ve been jumped, doxed, assassinated, and made fun of all at the same time. Shipping wars annoy me so much, because, really, it doesn’t fucking matter what you ship as long as it isn’t problematic!

I like DaveKat, and I don’t like KaRezei or DaveRezi, but me and the Tezeri/Karkat or Terezi/Dave shippers can peacefully coexist without trying to kill each other. I can shakehands with an EriKar shipper as an EriSol shipper. Fandom would be so much better if shipping wars disappeared.

Anyway, didn’t have much substance to rant about today, winter break is boring as hell sometimes, and I’m thinking of new usernames because Kadolade doesn’t fit right with me anymore.

I found this part of the crow strider au (by @meraki-sunset) really touching:

it's unlikely to be the intent but i'm choosing to interpret this as her being black for him still/again (neither of them have memories from the Game Over timeline iirc). it's sorta via an interpretation of homestuck that I thought was unique to me (a couple of interpretations, actually!)

firstly, there were a few people who said this during that tiny window in like 2012 when we knew terezi and gamzee were dating but not that it was abusive, but i feel like the only one who still says this: i think terezi was black for gamzee back from their very first pesterlog together (page 2024, during hivebent). he's not even trying to get under her skin (... i think), but you can see that he does. he doesn't respond at all to her mind games and it frustrates the hell out of her.

secondly, i've always seen the role of the non-flushed quadrants in alternian society to be about reducing/containing violence. this interpretation is pretty obvious i think when talking about the conciliatory quadrants, but my interpretation of the caliginous quadrant is that it also reduces violence, by providing a social framework in which an appropriate response to someone frustrating the hell out of you is to appreciate and cherish that person as a romantic partner.

so yeah, now that it's 2022 and we're all more comfortable using the l-word for black relationships, i'm letting myself have this one as a 'aw look, they really do love each other' moment.
