You May Now Goose the Groom
Tumblr media
(And while I'm at it, here's another shot of cc unlikely to be spotted. I have one shot clearly framed just to show it off but it might still get cut.)
Beulah's hilarious. She surely did give Homer a good grab right before she said cheese for the camera! It was all right and proper. The vows had been said...they were on their way! No family or friends to bear witness, of course. They weren't even in their hometown. But...they were together and together they had a future.
Now, it might look like they're dressed from an even farther back past than this was, but Beulah always was an old-fashioned sort and Homer didn't have any clothes to suit the life he was embarking on so he packed a quick bundle with 'some-things old' but completely unsentimental. Symbolic perhaps, for thumbing his nose at generations of the legacy he was flouting, but unsentimental in its memorial of them while he stood beside his bride, ready to create their new legacy.

VeronaHills, Interlude: Land (A)
It supposedly takes a village but the Lands have become one on their own. Now the babies are grown and Beulah and Homer can't fathom retirement. Is time on their side to continue their parenthood journey?

Homer Land invites Gallagher along on an outing to the Game Room, and Gallagher figures, why not?
Tumblr media
He puts his nerves on a shelf in his head and does his best to be social. Everyone says Miz Dixie is really nice and funny and all - she won't be mean to him.

"I hope you don't mind low stakes poker?" "Not at all! Best kind." "What kind of low stakes are we talking here? Hundred simoleon limit?" "Um…how about…a hundred cents?"
Tumblr media
"Now don't you count these cards at me, son." "I wouldn't dare."
Tumblr media
"I never went to college, but I understand it's grand." "I sure hope so. It's kind of scary. But - Tina'll be there." "If you're following your heart I'm sure you won't regret it."

What is that thing on your shoulder, stranger?
Is it in honor of a god, at last finding peace with your nemesis?
Is is a burial for wanderers—friends you’ve lost, perhaps?
Is it a grave for your past, maybe? The one that belongs to the man who used to be you?
Is it a sign, for the end of all your sufferings?
Or is it just a shovel, one that is used for winnowing?

✨Odysseus has landed on the Moon.✨
Not actually a choice in my choose-your-own-path Odyssey retelling, but hey, you can go with Menelaus to Egypt!
(I was going to make a tired joke about how Odysseus *really* got lost this time, but have this shameless plug instead: https://ljenkinsonbrown.wordpress.com/you-are-odysseus-signup/)

Yes yes as much as i love the au where argos lives (i am all for it),, i think there's something so symbolic about his death. Like,, you're finally back and you've changed but still he recognizes you - and yet he is gone and you can't even say goodbye. can't say goodbye to a part of the life you once lived and want to return to. it's gone, you are not the same man as before and you have to live with it.

"When Dixie finally does decide to have a baby, that Mitch is gonna spoil it rotten." "Now, you know there won't be any spoiling that child."
Tumblr media
"I just hope they're as happy as we were, with fewer struggles." "As we were?"
Tumblr media
"As we are, then! Oh, take me over and lay me down on that bed - you know you want to!"
Tumblr media
There's a reason these two had five children.
Tumblr media
"Okay, Grace, I've got to go to work but Mommy will be here with you all day long. You're going to have such a great time!"

VeronaHills, Round Twelve: Land (A)
So much had changed at home while Dixie was gone.
Seeing the swift-moving mama of childhood now struggle to bend and pat a little dog was a shock. It made Dixie curse her younger self for taking the fact that her parents would run around after her for granted. She should've stopped, turned and hugged them both more often and more tightly.
Especially dad.
He was missing at breakfast and mum assured everyone he was sleeping in. He was missing at morning tea and mum went to check on him and cried out in a horrible lurch of scorched pain; Dixie felt the sound pierce her heart and lungs and stomach and she knew.
The night before, he'd asked Dixie to make him a cocktail with a little umbrella, like the ones from the university pub that she told him about on the phone. She went to the market and bought a giant pineapple and a bottle of rum and packs of novelty cups and straws. She picked out the biggest, brightest umbrellas, adorned with the classic flora of a more tropical climate. The evening was balmy but he was in his flannel pyjamas and woolly slippers; he still insisted on lounging by the pool in spite of his chills. Like a holiday, he said.
Dixie was glad for the memory with her dad. She desperately wished it wasn't the final one. Did he know? When she kissed him goodnight and said she'd see him in the morning, did he know?
Edwin had come out from the city to meet the parents only days ago and he came again when Dixie called, barely spitting out the words through sobs. He held her and kissed her and alerted her to a curious skunk nearby (a spray at this time would've rubbed salt in the devastation). She had so many worries - about mum, about the funeral, about poor Loren who'd only just had his birthday and had so little time with dad. She had dreams, too. Ideas about what her own family with Edwin could look like were currently watered down with guilt - she wished she'd shared them with dad.
"I'm with you, baby," Edwin said with a voice like soothing balm. "Here." He produced a lavender scented hanky and gently dabbed the tears from Dixie's cheeks.
In that moment, Dixie knew she loved Edwin. She told him, and vowed to tell him again, often.
As often as she wished she'd told dad.
