✮ you know I recall somebody saying 'there ain't no cowboys left,' but they ain't met me ✮
finished my cowfolk suit! made from a roll of thrifted denim and faux suede, with fringe, silver piping and mother of pearl snaps. top is a reproduction of a 1950's shirt pattern from this etsy shop and pants are the shop pant from open studio, both modified with some self-drafted details~
ID: two full length photos of me (white with short brown hair) standing against a background of green grass and yellow trees. I'm wearing a western style suit made with blue denim, with black yokes on the front and back, shotgun cuffs, and black fringe along the yokes and cuffs.

This outfit has been a long time coming!
I bought this black fabric with blood splatters on it in a post-Halloween sale last year. I didn't have a specific project in mind at the time, I just couldn't pass up blood splatter at 5$ a metre. So it sat in my fabric stash for a while. Then, I started teaching my sewing class. And in the process of showing my students all the amazing things you can create for yourself, I made my first(successful) fully tailored blouse. And LOVED it. And I thought, hey, you know what would look cool? A black blouse with that blood fabric as a contrast.
And thus, the Blood Splattered Rockabilly Ensemble was born.
It features a circle-and-a-half(ish) skirt with more than two dozen pleats of varying sizes, a black stretch cotton princess seam blouse with slight ruching detail over the bust and heart shaped buttons(I sew my button plackets closed so I don't risk gaping, and sew the buttons on where the holes would be. The shirt is pulled on.), and contrasting cuffs and collar.
Tumblr media
It's a really small thing and you wouldn't notice because it's against my neck or under the collar, but I am so pleased with how the pattern matching came out on the collar and stand. Those streaks of blood really just blend right into each other in some places!
Tumblr media
As a final touch, I picked up a 5$ pair of faux leather sneakers and used dimensional fabric paint to make them a bloody mess.
While this is technically a Halloween outfit, I have to be honest. I would wear this year round.
(Also, please appreciate how adorable I am in those gifs, because my phone died recording them)
If you like what I create and want to help support me and my sewing class, consider dropping a tip in my little tin cup:

Tomorrow lads (gn), I shall be embarking upon an incredibly ill-advised adventure, and I'm taking you all with me.
I have two pairs of old jeans (one with holes in the crotch and the other headed that direction). I don't wear jeans super often anymore for two reasons.
1) I go to work all day in my black work pants with super deep pockets and then I wanna come home and wear something I can go to bed in, which does not usually include jeans.
2) I own 1 (one) skirt that I have stolen from my mother. I love it so much. I love wearing it. It makes me feel nice. I like the way I look in it. I feel very pretty wearing a skirt. It is pretty much the only thing I wear casually. I would like to wear more skirts.
I think you may all see where I am headed. Tomorrow, I am going to take these two pairs or pants and attempt to sew them into one skirt. This will be accomplished by using one pair of pants as a base and the other to sew panels in between the legs of the first pair. This is so I do not end up with a pencil skirt (we're aiming for an A-line but we'll see whar happens).
While the absolute worst thing that happens with this endeavor is that I end up with something so mangled and ugly, I throw away two pairs of pants that already had a one way ticket to the trash can, this is ill-advised for a number of other reasons:
I do not know how to sew. I can thread a needle and repair a hole along a seam. That's about it.
I do not know how to operate a sewing machine.
I don't have a pattern or a list of instructions for this.
I am not looking up any sort of guidelines or professional instructions or advice before this because I am lazy.
As you can see, this adventure will be based off of mostly luck and guesswork and is doomed to failure from the start. I do however, have a singular secret weapon: J-Dog.
Now, if you got to this post and are not a mutual you will be unaware, but J-Dog is my brother, my best friend, my eternal tormentor, and the victim of 99% of my ill-advised bullcrap.
What none of you will know is that J-Dog knows how to sew. And I have *leverage* right now because he did not get me a Christmas present (this is not because he's a jerk or anything, Christmas was just very lowkey for us this year. I gave my whole family one "I will buy you fast food without whining about it" pass and a little drawing).
He also does not have a job right now because he is moving to a completely different state in roughly 1 week to start forestry with Job Corps. Which means I can hold him hostage. All. Day.
J-Dog will be helping me turn on, thread, and operate the sewing machine and will be pinning the skirt together.
If this doomed adventure is successful, I will post a picture of me in the skirt. If it is unsuccessful, I will post a picture of the tattered remains.
Happy New Year, and wish me luck folks!

A sweater to use up random balls of aran weight yarn. Length of ball = size of stripe, except for at the top of the sleeves where I used what was remaining in the body.

Making your own clothes is GREAT bc like. You go to the function and someone compliments you and you get to say ‘thanks I made it myself’ and like. It’s true!! You did!!! You made it yourself!!!!

Thought I would try to get through some sewing block issues by doing a simple project and decided to make a long pleated wool skirt. I wouldn’t even need a pattern! And I even had this great spruce green wool twill fabric I got for $20 at a thrift store!
Of course when I started I did not realize that I should hand baste all 31 pleats… 😭 It is a simple project but NOT a fast one.

The main interest here is that the cardigan and tights are made from the same fabric. Also my camera gives up any hope of detail in the dress fabric when it's not up-close.

I should have posted this earlier

I am so pleased with how the shirt came out. It's a princess seam blouse in an absolutely gorgeous feeling stretch cotton. The pointed cuffs were a last minute(as in I sewed them the morning I wore this outfit) decision, and I think I might make a pair of cufflinks connected by a chain for them. The skirt is just a simple five panel half(ish) circle that was originally designed as a dress. The petticoats(all three) are flocked tulle.
I felt so freaking cute

Finally got to weaving in the ends. Now to soak that bitch and block it and then measure how wide the chest panel needs to be 💪

Today's dress will be dissembled and remade a bit but I decided to wear it to school anyway.
I figured out how to have four pockets in front which I love but I accidentally sewn the panels in the wrong sequence so I have a pocket basically in the middle front instead of on my thigh. It works to hold my keycard for now though
