How I wasn't expecting it at all but it made me heart fucking flutter because after all that carnage it was so protective and soft.

The way he looks down at her 🥺he's just lost Mae to betrayal, had to fight against the Jedi and defend himself against the Umbramoths, almost died to Sol if it wasn't for her...

Homeboy knew she was there, even when he was fighting the umbramoths he was probably keeping tabs on her and Mae's positions; he's so attuned to her in the force that, like Sol, he will always find her. Because of their connection, and Osha's power.

After being a speed demon - a fast as fuck boi - this entire episode his movements are slow, assured of himself, like no matter how fast or slow he goes: the force will lead him back to her. He approaches her like a wounded animal, circles like a wolf who has slowly been stalking a lamb. She's at his mercy, vulnerable. But instead of circling prey, he finds another injured wolf in sheep's clothing (the white ass civilian robes), and "metaphorically" curls himself around her. Accepts her and sees her for what she is. Not a helpless sheep, but a sleeping wolf. Not taking advantage of the sleeping maiden, but protecting her as she rests.

He did the same thing earlier when Yord was like "Osha run!" Lmao. She sprinted, he stalked, slowly behind her, not startling her, but gently following. Like he's so curious about her! Just like in the apothecary, head tilts here there and everywhere. All he's feeling in that moment was the force right because of the sensory deprivation? He has no reason to follow her in the forest! Logically he should've been going after Mae or the other Jedi, or finishing off Yord. She was no threat, even with her stun gun; at least in the eyes of the Jedi. But he's pulled to her by the force, it's so strong it's like he can't help himself. He follows her, but keeps his distance. In one he's using her as bait, he knows Sol will find her because of her force signature, her power. But it feels like he's also protecting her, wanting her away from the Jedi, maybe even trying to herd her away so he can talk to her? Idk, it's a theory. He's testing her, seeing what she'll do. Is she the hunted, or is she a huntress?

That is until he felt Sol in the other direction and suddenly the wolf bared his teeth (literally; good ol' Darth teeth). Possessive, protective, her animus. Her shadow.

The only time the stranger slows down, when he's not in fight or flight mode, is in relation to Osha. So as he stands above her, this predator, he looks upon her not with malice or ill intent, but thoughtfulness. You can almost tell he's thinking So they threw you away again huh? You're just like me Its pity and empathy and maybe even frustration/anger for her sake. And he says,

"What extraordinary creatures we are."

He does his head tilt, so he's considering her, before him physically and in the force. Curious, called? By her power, her vulnerability, her duality. Considerate of her, as her fate is in his hands. Like Sol, this is where he gets to make a choice; and change everything.

He could kill her, as Jedi scum, and protect himself. Then it would be a matter of hunting Mae and Sol, and slinking back into the shadows. He could do it, he still has time. "They see my face they all die" he promises that to Sol, to Mae, and he could protect himself right there. All he has to do is end her, and end them. But he would once again, be alone.

Or... he can make himself vulnerable. By staying and protecting her, he lets Sol and Mae go. And he does! In that moment, he chooses her over his own self-preservation. He chooses her.

I'm guessing he feels her injury before he sees it, and he's made his choice. Instead of choosing to kill her, he stays by her side, slowly lowers himself to her level and heals her. Bro what kind of foreshadowing symbolic bullshi-

Yippee! There's our girl! You see the movement he does when he heals her, he reaches for her, hand open, giving, pushing. It's right over her midriff, towards her stomach area, her uterus... He heals the feminine, he gives life, by the masculine giving...👀 I could write a meta just about the more prolific meaning of that, but some of you are thirsty enough. You get it. Anyway it feels like he wants to reach forward and touch her, hold her, support her. But he restrains himself, curls his fist, and suppresses his desire. For all his seduction, his sexy "imma get naked in front of her" temptation, he really doesn't actually act. It's like he's withholding himself. For all his "show don't tell" lmao, he wants her to make the first move; he just can't help himself to reach, to hope.

And because he heals her, instinctively she turns towards him. In her most vulnerable moment, he protects her, heals her wound and she turns to him of her own volition. She's not forced to, she's not pushed or manipulated by the force to turn. Osha in the force and in herself, trusts him. And I saw this and was like "Oh that's foreshadowing right?? Right? He heals her wound aka her past and her trauma and she turns, to him aka joins him" this is where the story is going. It's right there, she will trust him, and she will embrace him. Obviously ep 6 then 7 came out and made that a whole lot more obvious, but even in this tiny scene Manny and Amandla demonstrate the story at the core of the connection between these two. Duality, desire, and trust.

That's what the entire quote is about, the extraordinary way in which as humans we can be both at the same time. The dual aspects of our own natures, weak and strong, dark and light. Aware of the despair in our own victories. It might even be a little foreshadowing for Sol. And as a woman, the duality of her own power. How she is weak and strong, vulnerable and powerful, light and dark. Extraordinary. And in that he is projecting onto her as a reflection of himself, his own duality. In Osha's triumph over Qimir, in his triumph over the Jedi, they both still lost something. And perhaps gained something else. Ying and Yang, push and pull, light and dark. Balance. It's funny the use of the quote having the plural "we" and "our" initially insinuates he's talking about humanity as a collective, or just the "many" maybe even force users? But the subtext could just as easily be him commenting upon him and Osha. "The power of two." Foreshadowing them together as a team. "Their triumph" and "our despair."

And his expression. It's yearning, and almost... Relief? I dare say? He's found her. The stranger keeps a steady mask even without the helm, it's a survival tactic built from years of hiding and smothering his true self so he isn't discovered. I wonder if he even knows sometimes who he truly is anymore. The chimera having forgotten it's real head. But in this moment he's alone with her, no reason to protect himself, no one to hide from. He has made himself vulnerable to her when he could've remained the big bad wolf.

And you see it, his despair, his loneliness. He wants her, but he also wants her to want him in return; and he doesn't think she will. All his life he's been thrown away, and maybe he's become so used to that, the thought of this vulnerable powerful woman wanting him is just absurd. That is his despair, the hopeless thought that she'll never choose him back.

But the least he can do is protect her from the elements, bring her back, heal her, tend to her, make sure she's ok. And offer her a choice, lay options out in front of her and let her decide. Because he sees himself in her, and nobody probably ever gave him that choice. And episode 7 showed that Osha even though it was her choice to join the Jedi, in the end her dream, her choice, was built on a lie. So was it really a choice at all? Or was it Sols choice, Sols lie. That's another post, how he set her up to fail. Osha never stood a chance at being a Jedi, it was a self fulfilling prophecy from day one.

So Qimir, he wants to offer her the truth, and then let her decide, like Sol should've done all those years ago... There is failure in triumph, and there is hope in despair.

I can't do anymore images, but yeet back to the top and watch the amazing gif. It gives me heart palpitations, and feeds my soul. He's so touch starved in terms of affection, you can tell by how hesitant and gentle he is.

The light laying of the cloak - symbolic as it is - he's giving something of himself to her in an act of care giving and protectiveness; shielding her by sacrificing a part of himself (metaphorically). And he uses his "shadow" to do it, when all episode he's been using that darkness to consume; the thoughts and lives of others in defence of his own existence. He uses the cloak to consume and smother Sol earlier on, to blind him from the strangers true form, to use the darkness as a weapon. And the contrast with him exposing his true form whilst using it as an aegis/shield over Osha is almost hilariously juxtaposed.

It also has a lot of symbolic meaning in terms of a dark union, the maiden accepting or rejecting the clothing of her "shadow husband" and if the heroine will accept that suppressed part of her own psyche.

As a character, for her, he will expose his existence, make himself vulnerable, in the smallest hope that maybe... just maybe, he won't have to be alone anymore.

Even the way he touches her, it's protective and so tender. Affectionate. He pulls his hand along lightly, like he's doing something forbidden, like he's afraid, or is unsure. He pulls his hand up and away hesitantly, but then almost affirms himself and slides his hand back down to rest on her. Solid. Real.

He's not used to touching someone in this way, showing his own want and yearning so openly even though there's no one to see. He isn't being inappropriate, he isn't taking advantage of her. He's just softly laying his hand on her arm, like he's reminding himself that she's real and he's got her and she's ok. And even though she's asleep, it's like he's trying to tell her that he's got her. Assure her he won't leave her behind. We Stan a supportive boyfriend.

They left you, but I won't. I'm staying is what it feels like he's trying to communicate. He made his choice. He chose her.

I wonder if he was also being careful of her wound, and hesitated in sliding his hand down so as not to agitate it or cause her more harm. And he just rests there a moment with her, breathes with her. They're both still alive, they both survived (a lot). Right now she is his sole focus, he doesn't even indicate like he's going to get up and go after the freaking JEDI who KNOWS he exists or his own acolyte who just betrayed him. After his whole spiel earlier, it's kind of funny.

The touch is intimate. It's vulnerable. It's raw. If I was going to go full ship brained, I'd even say it was sexy as fuck how soft he is with her. But he's so jumpy, tense! The way Manny characterises the stranger with his body language is insane. He feels like an animal, a skittish deadly carnivore. It feels like a wolf settling himself down near his mate, a bit twitchy, alert, but slowly relaxing next to her. Letting himself become wrapped up in her. Bro doesn't take his eyes off her the entire time, he's fucking whipped.

The wolf metaphors are the easiest way I can think of to symbolise him as a predator fighting for his own survival, I'm not doing it for some omegaverse shit or something it's just symbolic (not that I would mind the fics Oshamirs go wild) and it's also a common fairy tale trope that Star Wars definitely mirrors. The big bad wolf, little red riding hood, he'll huff and puff and blow all the Jedi down lol, "a really long time ago" once upon a time. But in a heroines journey, in the story of the wild woman, in the fairy tale, sometimes the wolf is just a mirrored version of the darkest parts of yourself. And Qimir is definitely a mirror of Osha, her animus. The part of herself that she'll either repress until it consumes her. Or the part of herself that she'll accept, consume and integrate in order to become whole.

Because he chose her. And maybe, just maybe, she'll choose him.

It's sad, and tragic. But also beautiful and romantic.

I more or less watched The Boy!!! And by watching, I mean I skipped more or less through the jump scare parts because I cannot do horror movies at all. I haven’t watched one since 2015 and The Boy was like the first horror movie after five years

Full disclosure, the ONLY reason I started watching the movie was because someone posted a gif of Greta standing close to Brahms who was all sweaty and breathing heavily n I was like “oh shit who dat he hot” and here I am 

Can anyone explain the sandwich scene to me? So Greta was scared shitless and locked herself in her room, but why did Brahms make her favorite sandwich for her?

I did some digging for interviews and generally what people have been saying about the movie, took some screenshots from youtube to put my thoughts and musing together too!

So first of all, let’s start with a low resolution photo I found on IG of James Russell without mask:

which brings me to my first musing/thought/question? 

It’s all under the cut, very screenshot and text heavy, you can find more Brahms drawing at the bottom though  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So at the end of the movie, we are shown a Brahms with a broken mask and his face being burned, indicating that he was in fact in the fire.

I assumed first that the fire was created by the parents to fake their sons death and then he had to live hidden inside the walls? 

But I’ve also heard apparently it was Brahms who set the fire to fake his own death or maybe an eight years old kid really was trying to burn himself down?? 

My other theory is that his parents made the fire and tried to kill Brahms and it did burn him but he survived, and the parents didn’t wanna go to jail sooo to hide everything they made their son live in the walls

i mean the responsible thing would be to turn their kid in and have him treated and stuff;;; listened to a murder podcast about two cases where kids murdered enough kids and how they are doing now interesting read Brahms made me think of those two cases 

I also do not think that the previous nannies were killed. Like, c’mon. You’d report a person missing and sooner or later it would go back to the Heelshire mansion and if the body counts piles up? Can’t look good and I doubt that the Heelshire wants the police investigating them close up. 

Also, when the mom was like “He’s chosen you if you’ll have him” to Greta? Is it just me or the wording or does it sound like a marriage proposal/arrangement xD 

Brahms is a brat and he sees the people around him as his possession or to toy around. But I also do think that he has some abandonment issues but not in the sad tragic kind of way lmao. Even if he was the one controlling and manipulating his parents from behind-the-scene (quite literally I suppose?), he was still told as a kid to live in hiding and that no one can know he is alive. I don’t know much about the human brain, but I can imagine how damaging that must be to his mental growth and set him back in some way? We don’t know too much about his relationship with his parents - but I assume that he must have still loved them in his own twisted way. Can’t imagine that he would have been indifferent about his parents suicide. 

The scene before Greta manages to back out - first he uses the child voice to beg her to come back and promises he will be good. That’s his manipulating Greta, but when that doesn’t work and she tries harder to open the door, he becomes more desperate to keep her there and then completely loses his temper and threatens to kill Malcolm if she doesn’t return. I’m pretty sure homeboy would have killed him anyway. And then later when she returns and he is all heavy breathing and smelling her hair and then jumps up when she shouts Brahms? Idk I def think there is some sort of abandonment issue going on. 

I don’t think he is a child stuck in a man’s body or manchild or whatever. I think that he does know how to take care of himself - but he just chooses to manipulate people with the facade of a kid to do his bidding and cater to his needs. 

Anywhomst, but clearly Brahms is also a very manipulative and controlling person based, based on how the mother was reacting on the destroyed bedroom, she really seemed to be at the end of her wits and just breaking down with her “you promised you’d be good”. It was very heartbreaking to watch and also scary because it really makes you realize just how much power Brahms holds over them?? idk maybe it was just me.

Next point: the CGI mask  + the burns 

So according to some interviews with the director stated that at the first test streaming, people weren’t really scared of Brahms because he was too handsome so they had to slap a mask over his face. The face was done after everything was filmed. I’m thinking the face burns were also added post-production when they were adding the cgi mask. Otherwise, James would have needed to go through the makeup department for some wicked face burns and it would have been visible during the filming and test screening too? Which would imply that at first the fire was supposed to be just  a cover story that their son is dead and it was changed later

Observation/thoughts on Brahms Heelshire

Love how he stands there with his hands behind his back and then nods when Greta tells him to go under the cover

James Russell is 191cm tall. So like. Brahms is really fucking tall. But I notice that most of the time he stands with a slight hunch. Could be due to him crawling through the walls and crawling out of places that requires him to do a lot of crouching. His bed in his hideout made me really sad, I’ll get to it later. 

Since James didn’t get many lines in the ten minutes that he appeared, I do think that his eyes did all the acting. They stand out even more with the mask on, there is just this crazy look on it. I also noticed during my rewatch that he doesn’t seem to blink much or at all. 

Oh yeah, he also peeped on Greta and Malcolm making out on the bed and then cockblocked them. We been knowing that he made a Greta doll and very likely jerked off to it. We also been knowing that he very very very likely wanted to bone Greta at the goodnight kiss scene still waiting for the maskeless kiss scene gimme gimme. I also highly doubt that Brahms has much first-hand experience with kissing n stuff. High key thinking he was trying to do copy Malcolm and do what he observed lmao

When I first watched the scene, I assumed that the hole behind the mirror has always been and it’s just another one of the hidden passages Brahms to slip in and out, but now that I’m looking at the shape of the holes, it seems to me more like the mirror and brick wall were broken at the same time?? If that is the case holy shit boy is s t  r o n g. I mean, he also punched through the closet door like no big deal so really what have the parents been feeding him. 

I’m also leaning toward the fact that he ran there because Greta screamed loudly. I don’t think he was in the room as them when everything went down there, it seemed more like he heard the scream and had to nyoomed over and then punched a way through to get out of the wall. And then went on to attack Cole. He must have known that Greta wanted Cole gone, since that what she whispered to the doll before going to bed. 

Tbh, I fully expected him to murder Cole in his sleep, but Brahms wrote a warning message in blood to tell him to get out soooooo like. Cole you were warned and now you gotta live with the consequences ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Brahm’s sleeping corner

This scene was shown at the end after Greta and Malcolm escaped. We also see them briefly during the part where Greta and Malcolm are trying to find a way out and stumbled into Brahms’ hideout. I’m not sure why the rules are slapped on the walls. It seems to me that Brahms is very very very set on that the rules / routine should be followed. In the movie, he called Greta and suggested to her that she should follow the rules, to which she then started doing it.

I headcanon that that’s the routine that he grew up with as a kid and it’s just very very very very very hard to break out of it - not that he is trying to break the routine. 

I’m failing to find a good way to put my thoughts into words, but I guess the rules and routine is sort of his coping mechanism? 

I suppose if you had an OC that you ship Brahms with and want to change stuff around the house, the OC would have to very slowly introduce new rules and routines. Baby steps, yknow.

Brahms has a violin hanging there! Honestly I would be surprised if Brahms didn’t know how to play at least one instrument. The family also has an old ass piano/clavichord (?) and Brahms loves classical music soo yeah. Love me a boy who appreciates classical musical hehe

I suppose the egg boxes are there to soundproof the room more - maybe so he can play the violin? 

There’s also music sheets hung around his attics, it’s not clear on the screenshots but when you rewatch the scene and shove your face close to the screen. Some are hanging next to the violin and there are some taped on the wall next to his bed and porn too

nice to see he has a fridge and microwave, I was concerned that he wasn’t well fed and that leftovers might not be enough, but then again. Dude is 191 cm so clearly he has been drinking his milk

Didn’t take a screenshot of his vanity, but there is a crocodile magnet stuck to the mirror hehe. I do think that he shaves and stuff, otherwise his beard would be much longer??

Here we can see more of the food that he has there - there is also a sink but I didn’t snatch a screenshot of it. I think those are potatoes in the pot? Maybe he does know how to cook some basic stuff, I do wonder if he has a functioning kitchen up there. Probably not for fire safety reasons lol

Yes, we all know what he was doing with the doll and what the tissue balled up tissue implies. However, has anyone noticed the size of the bed??? 

If you scroll up a bit to the screenshot of Greta seeing the doll, it looks t i n y. The make shift doll takes up more than half of the space.

Even though Brahms strikes me as someone who probably doesn’t sleep much or during normal times, that bed must be so tiny for him. He must be sleeping with his knees bend and shit unable to stretch out :(((

Also at the end where we see him fixing up the doll, we can get a better shot at his desk, and I gotta say the threads and stuff are all very nicely organized. Brahms’s table looks more organized than mine does lmao. 

So we know he is a crafty boy. Not sure how difficult taxidermy is but I imagine it does take a lot of time to learn? Well he had all the time in the world anyway.

He plans this whole elaborate plan to propose to you that may or may not go completely awry. born in winterpeg winnipeg, grew up there. had a pretty typical childhood, y’know?? real supportive parents. signed him up for hockey when he was like four and the rest, as they say, is history.

went to shattuck-saint mary's in minnesota for high school where he played up grades showcasing an already blooming talent. wasn’t sure if he wanted to pursue the canadian junior leagues or the typical american development route of ncaa after that. ultimately was drafted high in the QWHL draft and played two seasons for the halifax mooseheads. by the time the hype wheels started turned for the 2011 nhl draft, chris was rumored to be the number 1 or 2 pick available. he ultimately went first overall to the edmonton oilers. signed his three year entry contract with them not long after that and went straight into the league. 

his early years were plagued with harsh judgement from the media that he wasn’t living up to his first overall status. pulling out to 63 points his first season, dropping to 40 due to lost time to injury, staggered back up to 55 the last season of his elc. though his first overall status was being contested, that was still enough to earn him a nice 7 year 6.2 million average annual value contract. pulled another 57 point season the first year of his contract and then the fifth year in the nhl happened.

it’s hard to say exactly what changed, but something just clicked. he had a hot start to the season and just never stopped, ending the season with his first above 90 season at 93 points. well, that could’ve just a fluke. but he came back the next season just one point shy of 100 at 99, and the next at 97. since then, he’s been a solid 90+ point producer, though he has yet to break that magical 100.

he just concluded the 6th year in his 7 year contract, leaving just one more year on it. he knows his next contract needs to be negotiated, that he’s due for a substantial pay raise, but he doesn’t want to put the team in a bind either. he doesn’t know what’s going to happen, and frankly is trying to not think about it.

SCOUTING REPORT: Clyde is a high-octane, offensive force. He owns a potent shot and a dazzling array of stickhandling moves that make him a gifted scorer and playmaker. He sees the ice very well and can fit passes through tight lanes for his teammates, while also having the anticipation skills to always be in the right place at the right time. Clyde’s skating stride is perhaps his most underappreciated quality. His two-step quickness is superb and he reaches top gear with alarming quickness. His hands and feet move in concert with each other, which enables him to make high-end moves without breaking stride. His shot can polarize goaltenders from the slot, the outside, or even with a well-placed wrist shot from the point. One must look at the little intricacies of his game to truly appreciate just how special he is. From his anticipation, to his shiftiness, to his ability to kick a puck up to his stick and shoot in one fluid motion, Clyde is truly dynamic. He also plays with a chip on his shoulder and is able to stand up for himself. His willingness to play defence is another asset that makes him such a complete player.

his parents moved out of winnipeg to the milder climate of wellcliff, ma when chris when off to minnesota. so while chris didn’t exactly grow up in wellcliff, he’s spent most summers and breaks there since he was 14. a couple years ago, they moved even farther south to a nice retirement home in tampa. he probs bought for them tbh lmao. chris has always been a bit of the nostalgic type though, so when they finally moved out of the town, he took their old house and still lives in it during the off-season (anytime between mid-april to mid-june depending on playoffs until mid-september). he pays someone to take care of the house when he’s away (possible wc?).

homeboy’s nhl city is edmonton. while not winnipeg, best bet he spends as much time on the beach and generally soaking up sun in the off-season. often can be found running barefoot on the beach close to dawn. otherwise generally enjoying the sun whenever he’s not skating.

chris tries to not let a lot phase him. he took a lot of the criticism he faced the first four seasons in the nhl in stride ( and still does tbh, it comes with the job but it’s a lot less generally negative now ). very much a let the water run off your back type of person. tries to be down to earth and not act bigger than he is. people have called him a steady and reassuring presence because of it --- and has worn an A for the oilers the past three seasons. but at the same time he can be childish and boyish at times, especially around friends --- living up to that jock stereotype. he hasn’t had to face a lot of the “real world”, so even though his entrance to the nhl wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, he’s never felt what some would consider real adversity or had to struggle financially.

idk exactly where wellcliff is but there are three (four?) rinks in cape cod so one of those will do for his usual practices. probs drives into boston like once a week to skate with some buddies idk.

has heard bonnie & clyde jokes and pick up lines for twenty-six years and doesn’t see it ending any time soon.
