Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected? I didn’t really have any expectations tbh. I figured I’d write less than 2020 because there were (hopefully) going to be less lockdowns, but past that...

What’s your own favorite story of the year? For wildly different reasons: The Sword Comes Later, The Violet Hour, Brick by Brick, Courage, Dear Heart and Wake Up Call. And also Unburdened and Becoming because I will forever love my threesomeficverse.

Did you take any writing risks this year? I started sprinting in Discord, which isn’t really a risk but for some reason felt like one at the time (it was great). And I wrote parts of a fake biography, which was very challenging and wouldn’t have been possible without the stellar beta work of @inkvoices. OH and I wrote Clint/Sam/Nat for the first time, which is a ship I love love love and no one writes it. But then (slight aside) I’m not a huge fan of some of the decisions FATWS  made regarding Sam Wilson so I guess that matters less... (Where’s my lovely VA counselor Sam Wilson, MCU? Where is he?)

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year? There are ideas and sequels I want to write but past that, no.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Look, I love the non-fic installments of my RedStar verse and I wish more people would love them with me.

Most fun story to write: I giggled my way through writing The Sword Comes Later. It’s just so unrepentantly dumb, and with a hilarious narrative voice. It’s probably 2021′s Improper Fractions/Prime for me for those reasons.

Most unintentionally telling story: I’m fairly sure most of my fic is unintentionally telling...

Biggest disappointment: Not being able to sign up for Holly Poly. Not being able to write more for the PolyA Bingo. Not writing that Black Widow 2020 OT3 spinoff I keep thinking about (though that one I can still do)

Biggest surprise: I finally finished-slash-abandoned I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning.

My favorite part of fandom this year: @harishe-art, @alistrawrites and I started up The Poly Armory at the beginning of 2021, as somewhere to celebrate Clint/Nat/Bucky, and everyone who’s joined has been so nice and friendly and supportive. I’m not on there are much as I maybe should be, but it’s so nice to just... talk to people about my favorite disaster OT3. <3

How do you stay motivated to finish what you’ve started?

Willpower. Spite. A piece of chocolate or something that I promise myself that I can eat as soon as I finish what I’m writing.

What have others criticized about your fanfic?

Messiness. Sentence structure and grammar. Portions of the fic not making sense and I get it. Sometimes I’m rushing and I don’t beta. The only criticism I won’t take is if you don’t like the subject matter because nobody gets to decide what I write. I decide what I write. And I also decide the word count and I lean towards shorter word counts. You wouldn’t believe the amount of whining and complaining I have gotten over the years about me writing short stuff.

Did your work ever get plagiarized?

Yeah actually. People on Wattpad steal my fanfic and post it without my permission. If you see a fic of mine that is clearly not under my username, please come to me and tell me and link me. I’ll take care of it.

Do you partake in any fanfic/writing events? (Big bangs, zines, NaNoWriMo, etc?)

NaNoWriMo is like every month for me. Let’s be honest. I’m in the middle of AO3 fests: "Trick or Treat Exchange 2020″ and “Shipoween 2020″ and “Femdom Exchange 2020″ and “Merlin Holidays 2020″ and “Femslash Exchange 2020″ and “Consent Issues Exchange 2020″ and “Yuletide 2020″ and “Flash With Benefits” and “Holly Poly 2020″ and “HP Holiday Fic Exchange” and “Mistletoe Exchange 2020″ and I signed up for “Holidays!!! on Ice (2020)” and “Merlin (early) Winter Creative Exchange” and a couple of secret santas on Tumblr.

Weekend Fic Posting - Reylux

Title: Fix Me with Your Grace Rating: T Fandom: Star Wars Sequel Trilogy Pairing/Characters: Armitage Hux/Rey/Kylo Ren Critical Tags: Force Healing Summary: In the chaos of a shuttle crash, Rey fights with herself as she saves Hux and Kylo's lives. Written for Holly Poly 2020. Excerpt:

This wasn't the time for kind words and gentle actions. Rey shook Hux bodily, relief running hot down her spine as he sputtered to fitful wakefulness. "Get up! There's no time to lie about!" Rey snapped. Hux's expression cycled through confusion, irritation, and just a hint of fear before settling. He shook off her grip on his arm and opened his mouth - no doubt to unleash some venomous retort - as the frame of the shuttle creaked to underscore Rey's assertion. Rey didn't waste time levelling a wry look in his direction, instead turning to find the other inhabitant of the shuttle.

Victor scowled up at Alice from where he was pinned on the floor, Holly happily drooling in his face. "I want to reiterate that, at the time I brought her home, I had no clue she was a Saint Bernard," he informed her. "Or that she'd regularly be so happy to see me." He reached up, rubbing Holly's neck before gently pushing on her nose. "Yes, hello, I love you too, now could you please get off me? Off, please. . ."

Fortunately, Holly was willing to be moved, stepping backward so Victor could at least sit up. "Even still – you're fortunate she hasn't given you a concussion yet," Alice said, coming over to offer him a hand.

"She's not – well, she is that big," Victor allowed, taking another look at the panting fur-covered face still so close to his own. "I must just have a very hard head." He accepted Alice's hand, sliding back to extract his legs before glancing back up at her. "After all, I've survived my fair share of hits from Ben too."

"So have I," Alice nodded. "He may look like a giant ball of fluff, but once he leaps into your lap, you quickly realize he's all muscle." She shook her head, helping haul Victor upright. "I'm still amazed any domestic cat can get that big. He rivals Cheshire for size, and he's always been the largest cat I know."

"Being imaginary probably helps there," Victor said, swiping at his legs in a futile attempt to shift some of the dog hair. "But yes, I didn't expect that tiny kitten to become a walking cloud of fur either. Why would anyone breed a cat that big?"

"I haven't a clue, unless it involves some terrifyingly huge mice." Alice frowned as he straightened up, tilting her head back. "All I know is that it's rather disheartening sometimes to realize both the cat and the dog might be taller than you if they stood on their hind legs."

Holly borked, tail wagging as she snuggled Alice's hand in search of pets. "Again, none of us deliberately picked huge pets," Victor reminded her. "It's just – how things ended up."

Alice cracked a smile, idly satisfying Holly's need for scritches. "Things just 'ending up' a certain way describes most of our lives together thus far."

Victor chuckled. "It does, doesn't it?" He reached out and pulled her close. "Not that I'm complaining."

"Oh, me either. I just wonder why we've made a habit of stumbling into caring for things bigger than ourselves."

"Mum? Papa?"

Victor and Alice turned back toward the door, where Gabriel was peeking in on them. "Mama says it's almost teatime," he reported, stepping inside. "We're having it in the garden today!"

"Oh, lovely – we'll go wash our hands and head right there," Alice told him, reaching out to ruffle his hair. "You do the same, all right?"

"Yes, Mum!" Gabriel promised, eyes bright. "Maybe we can play some croquet too?"

"I think we could." They watched as Gabriel hurried away again, then Alice turned back to Victor with a smile. "Speaking of which. . ."

"Heh – I have to give you that," Victor agreed, laughing softly. "I was nowhere near that tall at nine! I mean, granted, my family is a little weird when it comes to height, but still. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up taller than me." He examined his skinny arm. "And broader. Another creature that I love who could crush me in an instant."

Alice tugged him down to kiss his cheek. "Well, fortunately for you, Gabriel knows better than the dog or the cat about the consequences of his actions. If he crushes you, it'll be deliberate."

"Oh, comforting."

"It's what I'm best at," Alice said, grinning cheekily. "Now let's get washed up for tea. Don't want to keep our better quarters waiting!"
