It will never not be funny to me bc it's got all the Gamer Entitlement™ levels of CoD bros throwing hissy fits about "woke" shit but instead of being couched in far right reactionism it's the exact kind of "Kingdom of Conscience" style liberal outrage at anything with conviction and beliefs that DE waxed on about. Like even chuds who get mad that the game calls you out for being racist interact with the themes of DE better and understand them more than Cat Lady did.

the older designs for the sibling trio, which i never posted outside of the HK discord, for some reason (???). featuring some annotations because i like infographics and slight vessel anatomy notes on hollow's. i'll redesign all these in due time. also, i've kinda wanted to make a fashion chart for all 3 siblings (spoilers: hornet is the one with the best fashion sense).

some notes on this AU:

it's set after the Embrace the Void ending where ghost did not kill any of the dreamers pre-ascension; as a result, characters like quirrel and lurien's butler are still alive.

however, despite the radiance's death and the seal over the black egg temple breaking, none of the dreamers have woken up.

hornet is left taking care of her long-lost, dying sibling, and recovery for them and the kingdom is difficult.

to add insult to injury, not long after the unsealing, the void sea began to rise for unknown reasons. if left unchecked, it would eventually drown hallownest, but no one is up to the job in a godless, dying kingdom. unless...

(it's a shame that ghost has no idea how to deal with godhood. if only someone could help with that).

Au where Hollow and Ghost survive and then SILKSONG happens but- hear me out, hear me out-

Hornet was so, so young when the infection destroyed Hallownest. All her abilities in silk are derived from violence and hunting— unlike her weaver brethren, she never delved deep into the arts or healing beyond the basics to survive the destroyed husk of the kingdom.

This has direct consequences when Hollow survives in HK. Despite Hornet’s best attempts, Hollow’s wounds don’t heal quite right.

Hornet can’t forgive herself, never mind the insane reality she managed to save a voided godling from the brink.

(When Pharloom steals her, when she realizes there’s a history of thread, where she can learn how to spin silk maybe to heal-

-at the terrible cost of herself to save people she loves?

Hornet’s never been great about self preservation. All her life, she’s watched other people throw themselves into the abyss.

Now it’s her turn.)

Alas. Her siblings do not agree with that mindset. And they’re going to get their sister back, hell or high water.

i cannot keep this jailed in my head any longer okay. I firmly believe the hollow knight has never and will never use a contraction in their life and what I mean by that:

like Ghost? absolutely. despite their very stoic nature they're out here spiting their 'purpose' as a empty vessel by speaking (however they might) in the most slurred, disjointed, vulgar way they can manage and they take great delight in it.

But I just KNOW in my heart of hearts that Hollow is the most pretentious, archaic guy out there. once you get past all the trauma and horror and pain and their siblings finally pull a coherent sentence out of them--like Ghost and Hornet are expecting their questions of "how do you feel what do you want" answered with, like, "I'm sort of fine I just want to rest" NO. ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Hollow is going to hit them with thee thou and thy, okay. They were "raised" (loose!! Loose term, pale king my reluctant beloved) by an ancient wyrm-turned-king, okay. "Are you okay" is going to get the answer of "thy fears art wasted, siblings mine, on a vessel so impure and broken as I."

OKAY 😭 okay? I just need anyone to feel me. Like do you feel me? Hollow deserves to be a little pretentious. I want to read it so bad
