Maybe I'll write this someday or maybe you can if you want but omega! Mafia boss Steve who runs the largest casino embezzling scam know to man who's rivals with alpha! Mafia boss Eddie who has the largest drug trade ever.

Steve is old mafia money rich but Eddie built his empire by hand going from small dealing to this empire. There's a bit of an age gap and Eddie spent 10 years building from the ground up where steve has only taken over after his father for 2 years.

Steve HATES Eddie mostly because Eddie was the reason his dad had to redirect from drug trafficking lest they risk a mob war but also because in every interaction they've ever had Eddie is condescending, rude, and borderline sexually harasses him. Its mostly inappropriate flirting and innocent touchs that feel not so innocent when accompanied by one of his crass remarks.

He calls him kid not because he views him that way but because someone else did that and it pissed Steve off enough to pull a knife so he does it to be funny which pisses steve off even more especially since the war killing Eddie would start makes it not worth it but not less tempting.

On Eddie's end this he is legitimately in love with Steve like to the point of obsession. Every communication between them is packaged like a love gift. It freak Steve out so bad the first time it happened he had a bomb squad disect the package only to find out it was just regular and normal non-poisoned chocked a normal non-explosive teddybear and a regular love letter telling him how cute he was.

They always thoroughly check everything just incase its an attempt to get his guard down but it is legitimately just a romantic gesture.

Also Eddie does INSANELY STALKERY things as a gesture of love. Like having a sniper follow Steve around so the one time he got attacked the guy was sniped and the next day he gets a letter with photos from the sniper pov like "protecting my baby". Which freaks Steve out and he obviously thinks is a threat.

The set up is that Steve wants some of Eddie's territory and Eddie basically agrees on a condition Steve has to go out with him. Steve thinks its ridiculous but sure he'll go on 1 date and that's that except Eddie pulls out thos dense ass contract with a few clauses in it.

The main ones surrounding dating is that they have to date for a year from January 1st to December 31st so they can have every holiday together in order, Steve can't try to kill Eddie or the deal is off it can't go into affect until the year is over so any early signed documents are automatic fraud and Steve only gets off the hook if he can pass a lie detector test to say he honestly has no feelings for Eddie. If Eddie can't win him over Steve can have a portion of Eddie's territory no strings and if he does all Eddie wants is Steve's hand. The requirements are 1) they live together 2)Steve must say yes to every date 3) they share a room but not necessarily a bed. They don't have to have sex but Eddie would never say no to that.

Steve thinks that's easy all he has to do is been seen with him in public and not fuck him and he gets whatever he wants easy! Until its stops being easy and he starts to view the alpha in a new light he's never thought of before.

If there was one thing that Avengers Tower made sure to do was celebrate the holiday season, even if they had to tweak it a bit more than usual and have it be fitting for the family members. Hence, November holiday season, Thanksgiving. But due to past circumstances, they like to celebrate it as a Family Gathering instead.

Which was basically pre-Christmas according to Mia, due to everyone getting in the holiday mood for the season. If it was up to her, she would have had the Christmas tree up by today but Liane argued to wait until the weekend before December 1st.

Her and Jeremy had made sure to buy as much food as possible yesterday before chaos rocked the house. So the morning was spent with the getting the kids ready for the day, picking out clothing, cleaning up the living room and taking care of the dining table.

Currently Bella, Astrid, and Josh were watching The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on ABC, in glee. No complaints being raised by them yet, Ethan had put out crafts and other materials for the kids could be entertained.

Next off was the kitchen.

Usually, Nikolai would be preparing pots and Jeremy would be found cutting up any carrots for a salad.

To Mia’s surprise this year, when she walked into the kitchen, she found Ethan already starting to cook the turkey. Well put it in a pot that is, as he already put in the seasoning and garlic powder into the bird. There were potatoes being cooked, things being fried and some vegetables were left out to be washed.

And dare she say the kitchen smelled heavenly!

“Well, Ethan, this is pretty impressive. I thought we doing a non traditional thing this year?” She said chuckling.

Ethan was checking on the potatoes and smiled, “Yeah, we are! I just decided that having the traditional things like turkey and chicken would be more appropriate than just having pastas and sausages. What do you think?”

“Honestly, I love it. I’m just hoping we have enough people to eat this dinner together.”

“Mia, that’s why leftovers were invented.”

The two shared a wink and chuckled, knowing that holiday leftovers were honestly the best thing ever. Plus it meant, no one really had to cook for the following day and just heat up the food provided.

"How are the kids doing?" Ethan asked smiling, flipping the potatoes on the frying pan.

Mia shrugged returning the smile, "Eh, they're fine. Bella says she's thinks the performances are being overdramatic and some don't even know what they're doing on the parade floats."

"Not surprise, Astrid seems calm? Should we be concerned?"

"Nah, if she gets too calm and quiet, then we start asking questions."

"Oh! Joshie, wanted to help me with dinner earlier but...he may or may not poured dash more of seasoning in the chicken, so I had to fix it."

"Aw! He wanted to help out his uncle Ethan. Nice time, put him on salt and pepper duty."

"Already did. The kids a natural at that, but then he ran off to play. Reminds me of myself.."

Mia couldn't help but smile at that, before asking, "You need me to help with anything or..?"

She was cut off by Liane who waltz into the kitchen wearing a fuzzy purple sweater, thick black leggings with boots. She was wearing a beanie to match grinning, wrapping her arms around Ethan from behind and kissed his cheek.

"Hi!" She said in a squeal, her long nails and rings placed against his t-shirt.

Ethan smiled and glanced over his shoulder, "Hey my love, w-why are dressed like that? You're supposed to be helping us cook."

"Well, I was gonna do that but then I realized there are will be way too many cooks in the kitchen!"

"Babe."

"What? It's true!...ugh, fine! Black Friday Sales at the mall are starting right now. Actually, no, correction, Macy's Black Friday Sale starts right now and we want a nice deal."

"I'm sorry 'we'?"

Liane looked at him as if it was obvious, exchanging a look with Mia in hopes that she knows who that's referring too. But the short brunette just shook her head washing a few pots in the sink.

"The 'we' I'm referring too is me, Cole and Nikolai." Liane explained grinning excited, "Might even bring the kids with us too, they can sneak in between place and grab the good stuff."

Ethan's eyes widen and paused look at her as he said, "You're gonna do what?! The 3 of you are heading out to some sale at Thanksgiving morning."

Mia's blinked almost dropping the pot in the sink at the sudden news and added, "You can just leave."

"Oh come on, it's literally 11:35am! So technically the time we arrive to the mall it will be 12:15-ish." Liane replied softly, "We won't be out long!"

Mia shouted out her husband's name wanting to get clarification on what she heard, only to be met with the sound of yelling and a car engine from outside. Her eyes widen grabbing her sweater and beanie rushing to the balcony of The Tower, seeing Cole and Nikolai packing up the car.

Hell, Joshua about to climb into the car. She knew that Astrid wasn't a fan of crowded places, so it made sense but her kid. Wait where was Bella then?!

Her voice boomed yelling, "Hey, no! Get out of the car!"

Nikolai was packing up bags and looked up towards the balcony seeing his wife. He grinned with a cheeky expression, "No can do, love! Flat screen TVs and headphones are on sale!"

"Grr, Niko! You're supposed to be helping, not shopping!"

"You guys can handle it! Don't forget the garlic rolls for your famous fettuccine alfredo!"

"You won't be getting any, if you don't come back inside!"

"I think I'll live!"

"Niko!"

Cole's laughter can be heard from inside the drivers's seat. He texted Jeremy that he was going to go shopping earlier, and he quote 'get some early holiday done' but in reality he just wanted to buy his favorite stuff on sale.

He shouted from inside, "We'll be fine, darling! Go enjoy your afternoon without us for a while."

Before Mia can say anything else, she saw Liane sprint out the building and into the car, hearing Bella’s voice from the backseat replying sometimes to her month.

It was like her words were drowned out by their conversation as the car door slammed shut and the engine blew, without a trace of a word later they were gone.

When Mia returned to the kitchen, she found Astrid hoping Jeremy with making some cupcakes and even taste testing the ingredients. She knew she liked it much better than heading out to a nosy store with Cole and her cousins.

Ethan has seemed to left and chill out in the living room, leaving the brunette in charge of the food being cooked on the stove.

Mia chuckled, “Have fun there you two?”

Astrid was licking the spoon and smiled before replying, “Yeah. We made a salad and put garlic bread in the oven for dinner.”

“Why, aren’t you a little helper? I should just make you finish getting dinner ready, huh?”

In response Astrid made a face at her auntie’s cheesy teasing and went back to licking the spoon. Jeremy chuckled at his daughter’s expression and shook his head.

“She’s not falling for that.” Jeremy joked softly, glanced at Mia’s direction as he poured the batter in a pan. “But for real, you should’ve seen her earlier. She was a big help.”

Mia chuckled as she nodded stirring the pasta as she added cheese and creamy sauce to it.

She glanced at him and smiled, “Just surprise she didn’t insist on finishing the stirring the batter herself.”

“Oh no, she insisted on added in ingredients and making the icing.” Jeremy replied chuckling as he nods at Astrid’s direction, who was mixing the icing in a bowl. “But I reminded her to ask for help with anything.”

Mia melted smiled as she said her thoughts out loud, “Aww you’re such a good dad.”

Jeremy’s expression soften immensely at her comment. He’s been a father for 4 years now, but just hearing still made him get all warm and fuzzy inside. It was a feeling he couldn’t quite explain, but any other guardian or parent would understand.

“You’re a good mom too, Mia.” He replied in a gentle tone as he smiled sweetly.

“Aww! Well, not that good, cause I let my son go early Black Friday shopping with his father and uncle.” She added chuckling.

“Oh, don’t worry he’s fine, honey. Cole texted me earlier saying he’s going to get some holiday shopping done.”

“You really believe that?”

Jeremy’s bright smile lessened slightly after the realization hit him on what Cole was actually going to do. But honestly he couldn’t help but lightly laugh at the thought, he shouldn’t be too surprised at this point. High chance that Liane, Cole, Nikolai were going to spoil themselves a bit, by buying stuff they probably wouldn’t need.

Especially since Cole was in his spoiling era in his life when it comes to his daughter, most of all. But most importantly, spoiling his fabulous self too.

After a short beat Jeremy replied, “Let’s just hope they don’t buy the whole store.”

“Fingers crossed.” Mia added.

Do you think were going to see a Dreadwolf reveal trailer at Dragon Age Day or at the Game Awards?

I'm not sure, and I'm also hopeful/excited (so.. a regular felassan state of affairs hh..). if it's in a place where they feel ready to show it to the world more then that'd be neat, it'd be cool to see what's being worked on. and ofc anything said here is only speculation.

it's been at TGA before (2018 trailer, 2020 trailer), the last time being 3 years ago in 2020. if the 2024 internal currently-aimed release window mentioned in error on a dev profile recently is indeed still current (I'd guess that the change to "TBD" won't have been because the aim changed since the dev put that there btw, it'll have been because there isn't supposed to be any public info about the currently aimed release window yet but the games press noticed it on the profile, prompting BW/EA to ask the dev to change it. separate note: this being the case doesn't mean that there's no possibility that the window will slip more though), appearing at TGA 2023 wouldn't be a shock. maybe it depends on whether the possible 2024 release window is in early (but still after April 1st 2024 because of the fiscal quarter & FY24 slate stuff) 2024 or late 2024? as if it's later in 2024 (like say November) I could see a world where it isn't at TGA23 but is somewhere in the summer video game event/news expo period instead, because of the recent trend that's been observable in the industry generally and commented on by a former bioware dev re: an industry move towards shorter marketing periods (like more in the realm of a few months-6 months than a year). it's been said that the policy for this for a lot of AAA games has become a lot shorter, tending towards a lot shorter and louder marketing campaigns.

jeff grubb recently said on DA:D, "The Game Awards 2023 sounds right to me, they’ve done stuff at The Game Awards before. I’m expecting them to be there. If they’re not, it better be soon after, because Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, was, you know, there was a chance Dragon Age: Dreadwolf could’ve came out this year. Obviously it did keep moving internally, as I’ve reported before. It’s now, they’re looking at, you know, by the mid of next year, something like that.” and "The reality is, we very well could get Dragon Age: Dreadwolf content at The Game Awards. They’ve had teasers there before, it would make all the sense in the world for something to show up there." [link] this is interesting bc i'm pretty sure I remember a tweet from him last year about TGA22 where he straight up said "no it won't be there" or something basically when he was asked about it.

what I would say is that if it's gonna happen in a substantial way (as in not a codex entry and a blog post) in early December 2023, it'd likely be at TGA, not on DADay. this is based on how it was done previously and also on what's been said about DADay (an unofficial fan holiday event that just happens to occur very close to when TGA is held, thereby being overshadowed by it in terms of scale) vs TGA (a massive industry-wide high publicity event). DADay has seemed to have been more of a community-focused thing, a place to announce something smaller in scale like a tv show or a new book or to have something smaller highlighted like short stories or a codex. it's more of a 'today we are announcing we will be at TGA' with a new trailer-type [hypothetically] context rather than a 'here is a new trailer that isnt an ingame cinematic' type context, if that makes sense. saying that if it isnt going to be a 'big' trailer at TGA23, maybe there's something at DAday like last year where they showed an ingame sequence, which is smaller than a 'big substantial trailer' but still a video.

(idk if this post/ramble made sense but there you go). guess we'll find out in < 3 weeks. (❁´◡`❁)

Fall is always an interesting time of year….. The leaves are changing, the air is getting cooler, Pumpkin Spice is the essential flavor of choice basically from September 1st through Black Friday and beyond…

Each season brings with it its own changes. Some good, some not so good, but predictable for the most part. Changes in temperature, the weather, summer activities and different holidays. Expected.

What you hadn’t expected in this particular season of your life, was to be looking down at a little pink + sign on a little white stick you had purchased at the grocery store. The emalgome of emotions that you feel can’t be described by just any one word. Your thoughts are racing—

How did this happen? He’s usually so careful…. Tom has never wanted kids—

—running over and over again, until you stop. Instead, images start flooding your mind. Still holding the little stick in your hand, you think back to one night, of which you’re sure resulted in your current situation.

It happened to be fight night, which meant that Tom would be out late with the guys.

Tom.

Tom was your husband of almost seven years. On certain fridays, Tom would go with Pope and Will to watch Will’s little brother Benny get knocked around as he tried to build a name for himself as an MMA fighter. He was actually pretty good from what little you’ve been told about him, though you’ve never gone to one of the fights yourself. Tom would overindulge, getting so shitfaced that he usually needed one of the guys to drive him home.

That Friday was no different.

You had been going about your normal routine and were just getting ready to head to bed, when you saw headlights pull into the driveway.

You hadn’t expected Tom to be back for at least another hour or two since the guys usually took to the bar shortly after the fights ended. You went to open the door and were met with a truck you didn’t recognize.

The driver also wasn’t Will or Pope, but you saw Tom in the passenger seat so whoever it was, had just been bringing him home. Stepping out of the truck, Tom was wobbly and immediately made his way over to you.

“There she is! Hey Fish, I wanna introduce you to somebody!” Tom was to you now and had his hands on your upper arms, pulling you in for a hug. The other man stepped out of the truck and made his way over.

“You haven’t met my wife yet, have ya Fish? Just look at her man!”

Tom was a very jealous, very possessive man in general, and rarely introduced you to new people. But on occasion, especially if he was drinking, he would gush about how beautiful you were. The problem was that he always did it in a this is mine sort of way that wasn’t flattering or even sweet.

Fish, as Tom called him, walked over and seemed almost shy at first, introducing himself as Frankie.

Eventually, you would learn that they were in the military together and that ‘Fish’ was his call sign just like Tom’s was ‘Redfly.’

Frankie was tall, but not quite as tall as Tom. Dark hair from what you could see under his hat that was just long enough that it curled around the edges. Broad shoulders and hands that felt rough, but were warm when he shook your hand. His beard was patchy, but it suited him, you thought. Just a hint of gray showing he was similar in age to Tom.

You were just about to ask how he and Tom knew each other, when Tom tried to take a peek down the top of your shirt… making a very blatant show of his intentions, going so far as to say “isn’t she sexy, Fish?” The discomfort showing on Frankie’s face matched your own, so when he suggested getting Tom inside, you silently thanked him with a nod.

The walk to your bedroom was silent, aside from Tom’s babbling. You and Frankie were on either side of him and you plopped him on the bed where he fell flat on his back. You nodded toward the door and Frankie made his way out, saying “G’night man —sleep it off and I’ll see you tomorrow,” after patting Tom’s leg in a friendly gesture.. almost pitying his friend, he shook his head as he walked out the door. You followed him outside and walked him to his truck.

“Thank you for bringing him home. And for helping me get him in the house.”

“Not a problem. He’s always been a lightweight and he had already started by the time I got there.”

Again, he shook his head and chuckled slightly before asking, “are you gonna be ok? I mean, do you need any extra help with him?”

“Oh. No, no, I’ll be fine” you look behind you toward the house. “He usually falls asleep pretty quickly once he’s in bed,” only a half lie.

“Ok then, well it was nice to meet you. I didn’t catch your name before.”

You tell him your name and he repeats it back and smiles slightly. “Have a good night.”

“You too..”

You watch the truck drive away until you no longer see the taillights. You know what’s waiting for you when you get back, so you don’t want to rush your walk back into the house.

There’s a reason Tom is a lightweight— He rarely drinks, normally only indulging when it’s fight night, so on occasion, he goes all out. These are the nights that weren’t a part of your arrangement. These nights, you adhere to your expectations as a wife… these nights you knew not to fight him. But something about tonight seemed different, and you’re not sure what brought on the change. Your only thought was maybe it had something to do with Frankie being in town…. You had never met him before tonight, so it seemed as though he didn’t live in the area or that he lived in the City. Whatever the reason, you wouldn’t find out tonight.

When you go back inside, Tom is ready and waiting for you.

The thought of having to tell Tom was making you physically ill, although it could be attributed to what led you to buying the test in the first place. Your thoughts continue unabashedly. You wish you could turn them off sometimes, but you try to stay positive—

This is a GOOD thing. A baby! You’re going to be a mother! —But the intrusive thoughts begin to take over—

Tom has never wanted kids. He’ll have even more to hold over me now. How will I ever get away from him with a child? A CHILD…

You slide to the floor with your head held in your hands—

Do you think you’ve learned a lot and grown a lot in the past year? For sure. I've been the mom of a toddler which is difficult of course, but also my Mom died. I don't have any living parents. It's been quite the year. I'm very excited for a fresh start in 2 months!

Are you satisfied with how you’ve spent your year? Yes! I'm in the era of my life where I'm 100% focused on my young child and have little time or energy for much else. I'm proud of myself for getting into the habit of exercising while she naps. :)

This has continued and become a dependency issue even though she neglects to acknowledge it. ● Finally away from home, she's experiencing some freedom but still doesn't know how to break out of her parents expectations.

The memory of her parents can hardly be considered as such, the images in her mind much more akin to attempting to remember the dream you had just been stirred from than seeing a picture of your past. The only thing Carmen knew for sure? Her parents loved her. A reassurance repeated time and time again by her nanny, words that were surely about her birth parents rather than her adoptive ones, whose presence was less commonplace than the woman's own. Charles and Olivia had always wanted a child. Or perhaps, more accurately, they had always wanted trophies — the biggest and best of everything that they could grasp onto, that they could put on display for those around them. Carmen was merely a more concrete piece that they could attribute to their greatness. The second they had welcomed her into the family was the second she was growing, a schedule crammed with whatever might help push her towards success; if she wasn't expanding her mind, she was expanding a skill. Classes, recitals, pageants and the older she got, the larger the list of events she was expected to be in attendance with her family for. The normalcy of a childhood spent making mistakes and getting into mischief not one that Carmen had been afforded. Despite the endless parade of events that filled her calendar, it never seemed to take away from the initiative Carmen had always had to reach out to the world around her. It seemed to not matter if it was a teacher, a classmate, a family friend or merely the employee of whatever business they had wandered into — Carmen seemed unable to keep herself from asking about their day, about their life. There was a genuine warmth and interest in people that even her parents money couldn't have afforded to teach, yet they made sure to harness it in whatever form worked best for them, ushering their daughter in the path of whoever's good graces they were attempting to win. However, expectations did not come without their drawbacks, withering down a once lively girl with exhaustion she shouldn't have while merely a teenager. It didn't go unnoticed and unluckily, it wasn't unknown territory for the Hearsts. She was only fifteen, in a dressing room before a pageant when her mother first gifted and encouraged the use of stimulants. It was the start of a dangerous path, leading to dependency that has followed her like a shadow, dependency that Carmen has yet to face the seriousness of. After all, what reason should she have to worry when her own mother had assured that so long as one didn't overdo it, there was no real harm. It was no surprise to anyone when Carmen graduated valedictorian, nor was it a surprise when she got her acceptance and made her way to Ogden University, Charles' Alma mater. It had never been a question to those around her just as it had never been a question for Carmen. There had never been thought or consideration for her own desires, for her own passions and wants out of life. Even now, Ogden may have opened a door for her, may have been an escape for the home that had suffocated her for the entirety of her childhood — yet the expectations lurk overhead like a storm cloud threatening to swallow her whole.

Carmen was outgoing even as a child, wrapping herself around anyone who would grant her their time and attention. It’s only with Greer’s disappearance and the rumors that have spun in it’s wake that she’s been left to question the sincerity of their bond, to wonder if either of them had actually cared about the other or if they were merely displaying the manners they had been taught.

Entrapdak Zine 2 - Let’s a Go!

So just like the last Entrapdak Zine issue let’s do another one! 

The deadline for this will be DEC 1st 2021 at 9AM GMT (don’t know when that is in your timezone? Please use this handy dandy online countdown tool  

As it’ll be the holiday season there will be a slightly longer delay in processing the zine this time but I assure you all it will be out as soon as possible and in time for the holidays.

Our basic guidelines are the same as before, with just a few minor updates:

This will be:

A Digital Zine containing content created by the fans for the fans

A 100% Free Zine

Preferred Language is English

You may notice I run this different to other zines as there is no sign up period, just submit work before the deadline - I’d rather people have more time to work on their pieces 

Anyone can submit regardless of age or skill level - this is not a job application - just follow the guidelines and email in your work

Submission can be Fan Writing (poems, fan fiction, character analysis, eassys etc), Fan Art, or even photos of your Entrapdak IRL content (cosplays, fancrafts etc)!  You can submit an older work that you have published online previously if you wish - or even update a work you submitted to the last Zine! Just have fun!

Allowed Characters:

As long as both Entrapta and Hordak are the main focus and the piece follows Age Rating it will be allowed.

Other allowed characters in the Entrapdak family include Emily, Imp and the Clones (also known as Spacebats)…yes weirdly this also  includes Horde Prime.

Other She-Ra characters will be allowed but Entrapdak is to be the core element.

Fan Writing guidelines:

This includes fan fiction, analysis eassys, poetry or whatever else you’d like to write about.  I would ask this content to be between 1k-10k words in length, it’s not a big deal if the writing is over 10k or even if it’s 20k - write whatever your story needs. Chapters are totally okay to!

Where possible I’ll place written work on a cream or off-white background but if you’d like me to keep it exactly as you submit it I will respect your wishes.

Fan Art guidelines:

Fan art can include rough sketches, screencap redraws, comics (appox 1-10 length), coloured sketches or full colour pieces. 

Fan art can be in the digital or traditional medium.  

Traditional fan art can either be submitted as a photo or scanned, which ever you prefer.

Hello and welcome to Birch's 12 Days of Cheer! This is my collaboration for the end of 2021! I don't partake in any fall events, really, so this is my big to-do! If you would like to join in on this event, please read the rules below!

The first story I remember writing was about this girl who arrives to a hotel with her family for the holidays and finds out that there are some boys her age trapped in the hotel by the director of it bc of magic and that she can find a way to set them free. Basically this heroine "suddenly I have powers" story located in a resort haha. Super self indulgent and def not good but so much fun now that I think of it hm

I'm a sucker for 3rd person omniscient pov. Like yes baby tell me what everyone's thinking all the time while being reliable <3 But as you can see I write mostly in 1st person pov because... stuff happens I guess

I'd love LOVE LOVE to find a way of making my pacing better. I do like how I pace stuff but sometimes I fear that my "boring" chapters (aka the chapters that are in between arcs and as a breathing time for the readers to rest in between major intense points) are too boring...

Despite being the child of a doctor and a lawyer, Naomi struggled with school since she could remember, and having a genius older brother and an artistic prodigy for a younger sibling did not help her self esteem.

With impossible tasks, discouraging teachers and mean students, Naomi became a victim of bullying and began hating anything school related.

Receiving a dyslexia and dyscalculia diagnose was helpful though is gave her parents a reason to be give her a hard time, along with her adolescence weight gain and coming out as pansexual.

Deciding she wants to help children like herself as well as learning more about her heritage, she headed to New York in order to study early childhood education and Jewish studies.

After her older brother committed suicide, she returned home to care for her family and ended up staying.

She works at Kinderhaus, a private kindergarten which gives her the platform to be the kind of teacher she wanted to be.

Wanted Connections

With Naomi being around town forever and having her little stint in New York City, I definitely have a few ideas up my sleeves-

Friends- Naomi is about as friendly as you can get. She’s not the going out type of person, but she’s definitely down for movie nights. They could be childhood friends, family friends, acquaintances from New York, neighbors or new friends if your character moved to town recently. 

Frenemies- We can’t get along with everyone, can we? I don’t see Naomi making enemies but maybe if these two had a bad time during school, or maybe they simply get on each other’s nerves (Naomi’s peppy talk isn’t for everyone).

Exes- Naomi has dated around a little bit, and has a tendency to either give in too little or too much. We can play it out and decide how it went!

Romance- Crushes, dating, hookups, all is possible! Little limitation on this one, we can take it slow and see where it gets us.

Parents of pupils- Naomi has been a kindergarten teacher at Kinderhaus for the last nine years, so if your character has a child from the ages of one to fourteen, it’s very possible she is/has been your character’s kid’s teacher! I think this one is a fun connection and we can play it up either way.

Family- This one is more specific obviously, but I’d love to see some family members of hers around here, particularly Naomi’s younger sibling. I tried to keep it as vague as possible, only mentioning they’re an exceptional artist and of course everything that has happened with their parents and older brother. They’d be around 27-28 years old! Hit me up for more musing as I have a few thoughts.

This is probably a very stupid question, but how did the Ancient Greeks measure time (in terms of years and months) ? What was their calendar like? What year would Alexander have viewed himself to be living in?

I love these sorts of daily-life details, so I may have got a little carried away…. Before I get into the weeds, however, I want to make everyone aware of a reference resource:

E. J. Bickerman, Chronology of the Ancient World. Thames & Hudson, 1968.

Yeah, it’s old now, but Bickerman spent most of his career on dating puzzles, and I don’t think there’s anything recent to match it. When I first was told about it years ago in my historiography class, I practically bounced off the walls. (My fellow grad students thought I’d lost my mind.)

I’m not sure of the best way to address this query—topically or geographically—but I’ll go with topically. I’ll also say upfront that I’m unfamiliar with Egypt, so they’re not much mentioned. Also, if you want more details on any particular system (Roman, Athenian, Babylonian, Jewish), there are plenty of online resources.

Long-count Calendar

How to number years across a span? Regnal years was most common in antiquity: year 1, year 2, year 3 of ___ king. Also, king lists detailed how long ___ ruled. The Ancient Near East (ANE) excelled at chronologies; we have some that go back to Sumer. That’s pre-Bronze Age. The span of some reigns can be deeply problematic (e.g., mythical), but we have the lists. Fun note, Neo-Assyrians named years by its major military campaign. Tells us a lot about them, no?

What about places without kings? Greece, Rome, Carthage?

The Greeks had several systems, internal and panhellenic. Internal systems often dated by the name of a prominent city magistrate. In Athens, that was the eponymous archon, in Sparta, the eponymous ephor, etc. The panhellenic system used Olympic years. In Dancing with the Lion, if you look at date plates before sections, that’s what I used. It’s a 4-year system, so, “In the year of the 97th Olympiad,” “In the first year of the 97th Olympiad,” “In the second year…,” and “In the third year…,” then we’re to “In the year of the 98th Olympiad…” In modern annotation it’s Ol. 97.1, Ol. 97.2, Ol. 97.3, Ol. 97.4. From (our year) 776 BCE down into the Roman Imperial era, the Olympics made useful anchor dating for the eastern Mediterranean (Magna Graecia).

Rome had its own system: two in fact. It counted years by both consuls, but also AUC = ab urba condita … “from the founding of the city.” Carthage used a similar system involving their two senior Judges for their senate.

When it came to “world histories,” authors such as Diodoros Siculus used several systems: Olympiad, Athenian archon, and Roman consuls. It gets a bit unwieldy, but is about as universal as we have for the Med until Christianity took over everything.

Yearly Calendars

Much of the ancient world used lunar (354 days), not solar (356 days) calendars. Yes, they knew a lunar year didn’t line up with the solar, and they used “intercalation” to fix it, avoiding summer festivals being celebrated in winter. Either a 13th month was needed every 3 years, or they added a few days to months here and there, making a “lunisolar” calendar. We have an intercalated day in our own calendar: Feb. 29th in Leap Year. To fix a calendar, however, an “anchor” is needed. This anchor is usually a solstice or equinox, which may (or may not) correspond to their New Year.

Our modern (Western) world places New Year’s in the dead of winter. But many pre-modern calendars put it in spring. Makes sense: life renews, it’s a new year. The Babylonian New Year was decided by the spring equinox—first new moon after—which pattern affected most of the ANE.

The Hebrew New Year (Rosh Hashana) is in autumn, but their first month (Nisan) is in spring. (They also have a New Year for Trees! Tú bish'vat. How cool is that?) Wanna know when your Jewish friends are having a holiday? Use Hebcal, the gold standard.

MANY ancient cultures have more than one calendar running at a time. So do we. Working in the uni, I have the “normal” year, but also the “academic” year to keep up with.

Despite the dominance of certain early systems like Babylon, counting the new year was specific to a region and people, and their religious traditions. No single Greek new year tradition existed. Both Delos and Athens used the first new moon after the summer equinox: early July. The Macedonian calendar seems to as well, so Alexander was born in the first month of the year. Other city states were different. I’ve forgotten most but do remember Sparta’s is in autumn because their new year almost falls on my birthday.

Remember, although we today talk about “ancient Greece” as if it were a country—it wasn’t. There was a landmass called Hellas, but each city-state was independent, and had its own laws, gov’t, coinage, and religious cult. Too often “Greek” winds up being conflated with “Athenian,” because we happen to have the most evidence from ancient Athens. But both Athens and Sparta were weirdos. Corinth, Thebes, Argos, Mytilene, Cos, Eretria, Miletus…all were a lot more typically Greek in their gov’t systems, etc. There were also 3 (or 4) different branches of Greek: Ionic-Attic, Doric, and Aeolic. When we talk about reading the “ancient Greek” language today, most people mean Attic Greek, or even Koine Greek (Hellenistic era common Greek).

That means every city-state had its own calendar, connected to its own festivals.

In fact, most city-states had several: sacred, civic, etc. Athens had a 12-month lunar calendar for festivals, but a 10-month civic calendar corresponding to the 10 tribes for Assembly business. Originally, they had only 4 tribes, not 10, so political changes meant calendar changes.

In each city-state, month names were derived from the major festival for that month. We have the complete month names for only a few: Athens is one and (fortunately for me) Macedon is another (specifically Ptolemaic, but it’s likely the same as the Argead). Below “Ancient Greek Month” REALLY means “Athenian month,” which annoys the hell out of those of us who don’t consider Athens the be-all and end-all of Greek history!

Because their months were lunar, they bisect our months, e.g., July/Aug = Athenian Hekatombian or Macedonian Loos [Alexander’s birthmonth], Jan/Feb = Athenian Gamelion or Macedonian Peritios [probably the month that gave Alexander’s favorite hound his name: Peritos]. Likewise, as the Athenian new year began in midsummer, dating ancient events also bisects. You’ll see 342/1 to designate the year from July of 342 BCE to June of 341.

As mentioned, most places used lunar months as the most basic time-keeping, but the moon isn’t the only way to make a “month.” Rome originally had 10 months of 30/31 days, adding 2 later, which is why our 12 months have Romanesque names.

Just remember: NO UNIVERSAL SYSTEM for months.

What About Weeks?

A seven-day week is borrowed from the Jews via Christianity. Both Jews and Egyptians had a dedicated day of rest. (For Egypt, the 10th day.) In most places, however, days off were festival related. Every month had festivals, which might last from half a day to several days in a row. You worked…took off for a festival…then you worked. No regular day of rest. (For the modern weekend? Thank unions and the Labor Movement!)

How did others subdivide a month? Athenian months were c. 30 days, divided into 10s: 1-10, 11-20, 10-1. Yup, the last is backwards. But dating also counted waxing and waning moons. So the new moon began a month, the 7th of the month would be the 7th waxing moon, the 24th the 6th waning moon. This is the Athenian system. Other city-states are less clear, but probably similar.

Romans had kalens (1st), nones (7th), and ides (15th). Nundinae (market days) means 9th, but were really the 8th day. The 7-day week is late Imperial and, again, owes to Christian take-over of Jewish weeks.

Most systems had “auspicious” and “inauspicious” days for religious activities, civic activities, and business activities. Don’t start anything on an inauspicious day! (These were manipulated, especially in Rome, but that’s a whole different discussion.) The closest modern equivalent I can think of is Mercury Retrograde. 😊 Although in modern Greece, signing a contract on a Tuesday morning is bad juju, or May 29th. Constantinople fell on a Tuesday morning May 29th, 1453. We might, in America, consider 9/11. Who wants to open a business on 9/11?

The Horai (The Hours)

When did the day begin? Again, the ANE and Med are different. In the ANE, day typically began at sunset. So yes, that’s why the Jewish shabbat starts at sunset on Friday and lasts till sunset on Saturday. (If you didn’t know, the Jewish “day of rest” isn’t Sunday, but Saturday.)

For Greece and Rome, et al., day began at dawn. Each day was then evenly divided between day and night, so there was no standard length of an hour. It depended on the time of year. Each half had twelve hours, subdivided into 4 groups of triads. Originally in Greece it seems there were only 9, not twelve, but they increased to match the lunar months. The division of 4 groups of triads also yielded the 4 seasons of 3 months each. Hora was initially a season, not an hour.

In any case, dawn was always the first hour, noon the 6th, sunset the 12th. Same deal for night (twilight, midnight, pre-dawn).

This is great for military and civic purposes, but most people tended to refer to daytime divisions more generally: dawn, midday, etc. And there was nothing like minutes or seconds. That’s totally modern. Closest, they might come would be to count “breaths.”

The gnomon (sundial) was the chief way to measure hours, as it matched longer or shorter days. But it’s kinda hard to use a sundial at night, or on a cloudy day, or inside. Night hours were approximate.

The water clock (klepsudra) was first popularized in Greece in courts and the Assembly (to time speeches), but spread to other use, for inside or on shady days. Yet water clocks are unwieldy to carry around.

The Romans did have portable sundials (below), but again…needs the SUN. Btw, I should add that sundials aren’t only a Greco-Roman thing. The Chinese had them too. By contrast, the sand-clock or hourglass is a medieval invention. Won’t find them in the ancient world.

Back to normal life I go! Getting to see my family at Harvestfest was so fulfilling and upbuilding, every year the family gets bigger and it’s amazing to see! My parents are definitely in their favourite season of life - being grandparents! Though they might be outnumbered quite heavily, they are truly in their element when surrounded by all their grandchildren and make time for each and every grandchild. Getting to announce my pregnancy as well as get the news from Kyleigh, Zoe, and Amira was also such a blessing to me! Whilst it was great to be with family around the holidays, we had to come home and get back to the real world. Waking up early to make breakfast before all the boys wake up is probably one of my favourite times of the day, I listen to hymns as I prepare breakfast as well as do the meal prep for lunch and dinner.

When the boys wake up is when the chaos starts, though they’ve all been asleep they get up and chat as if they have things they need to fill each other in on! I’ll never get tired of hearing them chatting away at the dining table, even if every now and again Mason or i will need to step in and remind them to be nice. Being out in the garden in the fresh air is also something I enjoy, the change in seasons happened so quick that I didn’t spend as much time in the garden as I should have. It’s great having fresh fruit and veggies available to us in our garden, it definitely helps cut our grocery shopping bill down by a bit and every bit helps when you’ve got 9 people to feed (including one growing a baby)! I did our bi-weekly grocery shop and spent almost $400, so finding ways to lower the food shop bill is definitely an on-going project.

This new baby definitely hanan hasn’t hesitated to remind me that there's a new baby about to join the family, usually at a very opportune time. The other day I had to expertly dodge toddlers to make it to the bathroom in time when afternoon sickness hit! I'm basically at the end of my 1st trimester now, meaning I'm hoping for my belly to properly pop sometime soon. Each pregnancy has been definitely different in terms of how my body shows the physical pregnancy symptoms, with this pregnancy you wouldn't even know I'm expecting if I didn't tell you. I'm excited for my belly to pop though, it gives me an obvious excuse/reason for the extra weight gain 😂 People ask us if we’re going to find out the gender, but with this pregnancy being my 7th and having all boys with my previous pregnancies, I feel safe in the assumption that this baby will also be a boy.

In other news, Mason's sister Molly got married! We'd been praying for this day for some time now and we are so blessed that it happened without a hitch! She's around 5 years younger than Mason, so we never really thought about when the Lord would show her who she'd marry, especially when you think about the fact that not everyone has marriage on the books for them. She met Elijah Olson when she was working as a camp guide along with some of her friends during a youth retreat that she attended when she was younger and outgrew as she aged. Elijah and his family live in Oasis Springs, meaning she's moving from down the road to a few hours away! Whilst we're sad to see her go, we couldn't be happier for her finding her love and starting a new life with him.

It was such an experience seeing Aaron and Angie give away their last child and only daughter away to be married, they've done such a good job raising both Mason and Molly, that they can truly look back and be proud of how they've raised their children who've grown into Godly adults! Ever since i first met them, I've taken Molly under my wing and treated her the way I treat my younger sisters, so watching her grow up and get married was an emotional day for me as well! Molly appointed me as her matron of honour and it was such a blessing to be standing by her on her special day, she'd come over with Angie and we'd help plan all the itty bitty wedding details late into the night once the boys were tucked into bed. I helped host her bridal shower along with her maid of honour, as well as helping coordinate the decorating of the church whenever I could.

My forever wedding date! Every wedding that we go to, especially family weddings that we help plan and execute, takes me back to our wedding all those years ago. 13 years and 7 (almost 8) children down the line, I could do this forever and ever with this man!

The Japanese School Year (why Karma is one of the youngest)

Why not start 2021 with some knowledge, right? 

So, for those who don’t know, the Japanese school year is very different to what (mostly Western centric) a lot of people seem to think it is. And, I mean, it is literally a canon plot point that Korosensei’s death is at the END of the year, so I don’t think it’s too technical to point this out. 

What do we see at that time? Or in basically any anime ever?

Cherry blossoms! Yep, the Japanese school year starts and ends in spring. Take April 1st as your typical cut off date, as opposed to August//September. I touched on this in my timeline post, but the term runs up until the middle/end of July (usually around Nagisa’s birthday). At that point, they have a summer break up until September. To repeat, term one is from April to July. 

Typically, Japanese schools break up on like Christmas Eve kind of time, since Christmas isn’t really as much of a thing (except the actual Christian ones - which do exist fun fact). It’s not a national holiday or anything. But there’s a long enough break for New Years, which is a whole celebration. Important note that I am pretty sure Kunugigaoka actually breaks up a little earlier than this, though it’s still definitely late December. 

As someone who literally studied in Japan, it’s unclear to even me if the period between January - March counts as a separate term or not? Though, I’m far more inclined to say no, and count it as a continuation of term two when schools go back in January. Typically, entrance exams (for high school and university) happen in the winter. Then, finally, they get a short break in March before returning to school, moving up a year, in April. 

So yes, for the majority of the show both Karma and Gakushuu are fourteen.

So, to list 3E in age order, oldest to youngest (dates in British order):

But I went a little more into detail of the AC timeline in this post (I may make a more aesthetically easy to follow version at some point), if anyone wants more analysis of when specific events take place. 

TLDR: The Japanese school year starts in April, meaning that’s the age cut off to be in a year group. First term is April - July, second term is September - March. 

I’m just going to add a note here: Aguri’s entire existence really fucks up every piece of logic for any sort of reasonable timeline, so I’m just going to sit here and ignore that was a thing for a little while, until I figure it out. But yes, I am aware of it.
