Over on the fanfiction writers community page I've started doing some brit picking posts to explain how Hogwarts works for those overseas fans who are trying to write authentic fics and are baffled by the system as it appears in the stories. And as this is a marauders blog, I figured I might as well cross post it here. This is info specifically for people trying to write a fic set in Hogwarts so it feels authentic.

During my time on the internet I have discovered that there are vast swathes of people from around the world who are confused as to if something is "actually British" or "magical" and made up for the books.

As a British person who is old enough to have been in high school while the books were coming out, I got all the references and understood all the systems and I can't emphasise enough how like Hogwarts my school was (down to having a James Potter on our list of "fallen scholars" who died in WW1 and a previous headmaster called Tom Riddle). I sometimes see people discuss how what JKR wrote didn't make sense and trying to "improve" it and...nope, she was writing the English system as she (and I) experienced it (and it really isn't that far removed from what a lot of kids are still experiencing today).

So this is just some in advance Brit picking for any authors trying to get their heads around authentically writing Hogwarts without yanking their British readers right out of the fic.

First up, starting simple - school years and ages:

Obviously, iconically, Hogwarts students return to school to start the new year on September 1st every year.

This is true of the English school system (not necessarily the 1st, but early September) - though Scotland break up earlier in the summer and go back in August. JKR is English (though she lives in Scotland and Hogwarts is in Scotland) and she is using the English system.

School starts in September. There is a two week break around Christmas, a two week break around Easter and then school breaks up in July for the summer holidays - which are also called "the six week holidays" as that is (roughly) how long they last.

In real schools there are also "half terms" which are week long breaks from school which take place in October, February and May/June, though Hogwarts seems not to bother with these.

Students attend Hogwarts for 7 years (in real schools it is more complicated, as students have the option to leave after fifth year and take exams at "sixth form colleges" or get apprenticeships but essentially there are 7 compulsory educational years in the secondary system and many students go all the way through in one place). So starting at 11 and leaving at 18 isn't something JKR made up for Hogwarts but is the basic English High School system (some educational authorities also have a middle school system... but that is over-complicating things and not relevant here).

The correct ages for students in each year are:

First year - 11/12

Second year - 12/13

Third Year - 13/14

Fourth year - 14/15

Fifth year - 15/16

Sixth year - 16/17

Seventh year - 17/18

Students start high school the September before they turn 12. So in Harry's year the students will have been born between September 1st 1979 and August 31st 1980.

A student born a day later - on September 1st 1980 - would be in Ginny's year.

Harry is one of the babies of his year group, his birthday is after the school year ends every year. So he was never 12 when he was in first year, he spent the whole of his time in Philosopher's Stone being 11 and did not turn 12 until it was almost time to go back to second year. He is unusual in this respect. Both Ron and Hermione turn 12 during Philosopher's Stone.

Harry being so young can cause confusion for those who are not familiar with the system JKR is writing. Because Harry is (for example) consistently referred to as 13 throughout POA (and Dumbledore himself says something about "the words of three 13 year old wizards" - when Ron and Hermione are actually 14) people tend to write their own characters as being (for example) 13 throughout the whole of third year. But depending on where their birthday is, they could be 14 for most of the school year.

Students who we know have their birthday in the first term and thus are older than most of the classmates, are Hermione (September) and (for Marauders era) Sirius (November).

In the second term (after Christmas) is Lily and Snape (January) Remus and James (March) and Ron (March)

Fred and George would most likely have their birthdays in the Easter holidays most years as it falls on April 1st - however if Easter was late, they would have their birthday at the tail end of the second term - about 2/3rd through the year.

The summer borns - and the youngest students in the year - are Draco (June) Harry and Neville (July) and Ginny (August)

Most students will celebrate a birthday during the school year, and so most of your characters will change age throughout a year long fic. The important thing to remember is that Harry (whose age is mentioned most often in the books) is always at the younger possible age for his year group and so when mentioning those in the same year you can make them older, or the same age, but never younger eg if Harry is 12 they can be 13 but not 11.

I know this can all seem really self explanatory to some of you, but for others whose schools work on totally different systems and whose calendars are totally different it can be confusing and counter intuitive. So I hope this helps for those who don't have an instinctive grasp of how Hogwarts school years work.

This was fun to put together and there are loads more "how the system works" tips, so I will do some more later - but if anyone has any specific questions please put them in the comments and I'll do my best to answer.

Personality:

♡ Delano is quiet yet calm. He has a few words to speak and he is the silent Halloween boy in RSA. Due to the fall out between him and his mother, he had no contact with her and one of his siblings but does not mean he will not be protective of his friends and his family. He is very friendly though he had a hard time speaking.

On Halloween however, he is more...abnormal. He speaks in riddles, crypts words or even in a polite tone that makes people more uneasy around him. He is more expressive with his emotions and even talks more but not too talkative. He is still protective and fiercely loyal and willing to help people to safety on Halloween.

If there was one thing that Avengers Tower made sure to do was celebrate the holiday season, even if they had to tweak it a bit more than usual and have it be fitting for the family members. Hence, November holiday season, Thanksgiving. But due to past circumstances, they like to celebrate it as a Family Gathering instead.

Which was basically pre-Christmas according to Mia, due to everyone getting in the holiday mood for the season. If it was up to her, she would have had the Christmas tree up by today but Liane argued to wait until the weekend before December 1st.

Her and Jeremy had made sure to buy as much food as possible yesterday before chaos rocked the house. So the morning was spent with the getting the kids ready for the day, picking out clothing, cleaning up the living room and taking care of the dining table.

Currently Bella, Astrid, and Josh were watching The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on ABC, in glee. No complaints being raised by them yet, Ethan had put out crafts and other materials for the kids could be entertained.

Next off was the kitchen.

Usually, Nikolai would be preparing pots and Jeremy would be found cutting up any carrots for a salad.

To Mia’s surprise this year, when she walked into the kitchen, she found Ethan already starting to cook the turkey. Well put it in a pot that is, as he already put in the seasoning and garlic powder into the bird. There were potatoes being cooked, things being fried and some vegetables were left out to be washed.

And dare she say the kitchen smelled heavenly!

“Well, Ethan, this is pretty impressive. I thought we doing a non traditional thing this year?” She said chuckling.

Ethan was checking on the potatoes and smiled, “Yeah, we are! I just decided that having the traditional things like turkey and chicken would be more appropriate than just having pastas and sausages. What do you think?”

“Honestly, I love it. I’m just hoping we have enough people to eat this dinner together.”

“Mia, that’s why leftovers were invented.”

The two shared a wink and chuckled, knowing that holiday leftovers were honestly the best thing ever. Plus it meant, no one really had to cook for the following day and just heat up the food provided.

"How are the kids doing?" Ethan asked smiling, flipping the potatoes on the frying pan.

Mia shrugged returning the smile, "Eh, they're fine. Bella says she's thinks the performances are being overdramatic and some don't even know what they're doing on the parade floats."

"Not surprise, Astrid seems calm? Should we be concerned?"

"Nah, if she gets too calm and quiet, then we start asking questions."

"Oh! Joshie, wanted to help me with dinner earlier but...he may or may not poured dash more of seasoning in the chicken, so I had to fix it."

"Aw! He wanted to help out his uncle Ethan. Nice time, put him on salt and pepper duty."

"Already did. The kids a natural at that, but then he ran off to play. Reminds me of myself.."

Mia couldn't help but smile at that, before asking, "You need me to help with anything or..?"

She was cut off by Liane who waltz into the kitchen wearing a fuzzy purple sweater, thick black leggings with boots. She was wearing a beanie to match grinning, wrapping her arms around Ethan from behind and kissed his cheek.

"Hi!" She said in a squeal, her long nails and rings placed against his t-shirt.

Ethan smiled and glanced over his shoulder, "Hey my love, w-why are dressed like that? You're supposed to be helping us cook."

"Well, I was gonna do that but then I realized there are will be way too many cooks in the kitchen!"

"Babe."

"What? It's true!...ugh, fine! Black Friday Sales at the mall are starting right now. Actually, no, correction, Macy's Black Friday Sale starts right now and we want a nice deal."

"I'm sorry 'we'?"

Liane looked at him as if it was obvious, exchanging a look with Mia in hopes that she knows who that's referring too. But the short brunette just shook her head washing a few pots in the sink.

"The 'we' I'm referring too is me, Cole and Nikolai." Liane explained grinning excited, "Might even bring the kids with us too, they can sneak in between place and grab the good stuff."

Ethan's eyes widen and paused look at her as he said, "You're gonna do what?! The 3 of you are heading out to some sale at Thanksgiving morning."

Mia's blinked almost dropping the pot in the sink at the sudden news and added, "You can just leave."

"Oh come on, it's literally 11:35am! So technically the time we arrive to the mall it will be 12:15-ish." Liane replied softly, "We won't be out long!"

Mia shouted out her husband's name wanting to get clarification on what she heard, only to be met with the sound of yelling and a car engine from outside. Her eyes widen grabbing her sweater and beanie rushing to the balcony of The Tower, seeing Cole and Nikolai packing up the car.

Hell, Joshua about to climb into the car. She knew that Astrid wasn't a fan of crowded places, so it made sense but her kid. Wait where was Bella then?!

Her voice boomed yelling, "Hey, no! Get out of the car!"

Nikolai was packing up bags and looked up towards the balcony seeing his wife. He grinned with a cheeky expression, "No can do, love! Flat screen TVs and headphones are on sale!"

"Grr, Niko! You're supposed to be helping, not shopping!"

"You guys can handle it! Don't forget the garlic rolls for your famous fettuccine alfredo!"

"You won't be getting any, if you don't come back inside!"

"I think I'll live!"

"Niko!"

Cole's laughter can be heard from inside the drivers's seat. He texted Jeremy that he was going to go shopping earlier, and he quote 'get some early holiday done' but in reality he just wanted to buy his favorite stuff on sale.

He shouted from inside, "We'll be fine, darling! Go enjoy your afternoon without us for a while."

Before Mia can say anything else, she saw Liane sprint out the building and into the car, hearing Bella’s voice from the backseat replying sometimes to her month.

It was like her words were drowned out by their conversation as the car door slammed shut and the engine blew, without a trace of a word later they were gone.

When Mia returned to the kitchen, she found Astrid hoping Jeremy with making some cupcakes and even taste testing the ingredients. She knew she liked it much better than heading out to a nosy store with Cole and her cousins.

Ethan has seemed to left and chill out in the living room, leaving the brunette in charge of the food being cooked on the stove.

Mia chuckled, “Have fun there you two?”

Astrid was licking the spoon and smiled before replying, “Yeah. We made a salad and put garlic bread in the oven for dinner.”

“Why, aren’t you a little helper? I should just make you finish getting dinner ready, huh?”

In response Astrid made a face at her auntie’s cheesy teasing and went back to licking the spoon. Jeremy chuckled at his daughter’s expression and shook his head.

“She’s not falling for that.” Jeremy joked softly, glanced at Mia’s direction as he poured the batter in a pan. “But for real, you should’ve seen her earlier. She was a big help.”

Mia chuckled as she nodded stirring the pasta as she added cheese and creamy sauce to it.

She glanced at him and smiled, “Just surprise she didn’t insist on finishing the stirring the batter herself.”

“Oh no, she insisted on added in ingredients and making the icing.” Jeremy replied chuckling as he nods at Astrid’s direction, who was mixing the icing in a bowl. “But I reminded her to ask for help with anything.”

Mia melted smiled as she said her thoughts out loud, “Aww you’re such a good dad.”

Jeremy’s expression soften immensely at her comment. He’s been a father for 4 years now, but just hearing still made him get all warm and fuzzy inside. It was a feeling he couldn’t quite explain, but any other guardian or parent would understand.

“You’re a good mom too, Mia.” He replied in a gentle tone as he smiled sweetly.

“Aww! Well, not that good, cause I let my son go early Black Friday shopping with his father and uncle.” She added chuckling.

“Oh, don’t worry he’s fine, honey. Cole texted me earlier saying he’s going to get some holiday shopping done.”

“You really believe that?”

Jeremy’s bright smile lessened slightly after the realization hit him on what Cole was actually going to do. But honestly he couldn’t help but lightly laugh at the thought, he shouldn’t be too surprised at this point. High chance that Liane, Cole, Nikolai were going to spoil themselves a bit, by buying stuff they probably wouldn’t need.

Especially since Cole was in his spoiling era in his life when it comes to his daughter, most of all. But most importantly, spoiling his fabulous self too.

After a short beat Jeremy replied, “Let’s just hope they don’t buy the whole store.”

“Fingers crossed.” Mia added.

Do you think were going to see a Dreadwolf reveal trailer at Dragon Age Day or at the Game Awards?

I'm not sure, and I'm also hopeful/excited (so.. a regular felassan state of affairs hh..). if it's in a place where they feel ready to show it to the world more then that'd be neat, it'd be cool to see what's being worked on. and ofc anything said here is only speculation.

it's been at TGA before (2018 trailer, 2020 trailer), the last time being 3 years ago in 2020. if the 2024 internal currently-aimed release window mentioned in error on a dev profile recently is indeed still current (I'd guess that the change to "TBD" won't have been because the aim changed since the dev put that there btw, it'll have been because there isn't supposed to be any public info about the currently aimed release window yet but the games press noticed it on the profile, prompting BW/EA to ask the dev to change it. separate note: this being the case doesn't mean that there's no possibility that the window will slip more though), appearing at TGA 2023 wouldn't be a shock. maybe it depends on whether the possible 2024 release window is in early (but still after April 1st 2024 because of the fiscal quarter & FY24 slate stuff) 2024 or late 2024? as if it's later in 2024 (like say November) I could see a world where it isn't at TGA23 but is somewhere in the summer video game event/news expo period instead, because of the recent trend that's been observable in the industry generally and commented on by a former bioware dev re: an industry move towards shorter marketing periods (like more in the realm of a few months-6 months than a year). it's been said that the policy for this for a lot of AAA games has become a lot shorter, tending towards a lot shorter and louder marketing campaigns.

jeff grubb recently said on DA:D, "The Game Awards 2023 sounds right to me, they’ve done stuff at The Game Awards before. I’m expecting them to be there. If they’re not, it better be soon after, because Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, was, you know, there was a chance Dragon Age: Dreadwolf could’ve came out this year. Obviously it did keep moving internally, as I’ve reported before. It’s now, they’re looking at, you know, by the mid of next year, something like that.” and "The reality is, we very well could get Dragon Age: Dreadwolf content at The Game Awards. They’ve had teasers there before, it would make all the sense in the world for something to show up there." [link] this is interesting bc i'm pretty sure I remember a tweet from him last year about TGA22 where he straight up said "no it won't be there" or something basically when he was asked about it.

what I would say is that if it's gonna happen in a substantial way (as in not a codex entry and a blog post) in early December 2023, it'd likely be at TGA, not on DADay. this is based on how it was done previously and also on what's been said about DADay (an unofficial fan holiday event that just happens to occur very close to when TGA is held, thereby being overshadowed by it in terms of scale) vs TGA (a massive industry-wide high publicity event). DADay has seemed to have been more of a community-focused thing, a place to announce something smaller in scale like a tv show or a new book or to have something smaller highlighted like short stories or a codex. it's more of a 'today we are announcing we will be at TGA' with a new trailer-type [hypothetically] context rather than a 'here is a new trailer that isnt an ingame cinematic' type context, if that makes sense. saying that if it isnt going to be a 'big' trailer at TGA23, maybe there's something at DAday like last year where they showed an ingame sequence, which is smaller than a 'big substantial trailer' but still a video.

(idk if this post/ramble made sense but there you go). guess we'll find out in < 3 weeks. (❁´◡`❁)

What you hadn’t expected in this particular season of your life, was to be looking down at a little pink + sign on a little white stick you had purchased at the grocery store. The emalgome of emotions that you feel can’t be described by just any one word. Your thoughts are racing—

—running over and over again, until you stop. Instead, images start flooding your mind. Still holding the little stick in your hand, you think back to one night, of which you’re sure resulted in your current situation.

It happened to be fight night, which meant that Tom would be out late with the guys.

Tom.

Tom was your husband of almost seven years. On certain fridays, Tom would go with Pope and Will to watch Will’s little brother Benny get knocked around as he tried to build a name for himself as an MMA fighter. He was actually pretty good from what little you’ve been told about him, though you’ve never gone to one of the fights yourself. Tom would overindulge, getting so shitfaced that he usually needed one of the guys to drive him home.

That Friday was no different.

You had been going about your normal routine and were just getting ready to head to bed, when you saw headlights pull into the driveway.

You hadn’t expected Tom to be back for at least another hour or two since the guys usually took to the bar shortly after the fights ended. You went to open the door and were met with a truck you didn’t recognize.

The driver also wasn’t Will or Pope, but you saw Tom in the passenger seat so whoever it was, had just been bringing him home. Stepping out of the truck, Tom was wobbly and immediately made his way over to you.

“There she is! Hey Fish, I wanna introduce you to somebody!” Tom was to you now and had his hands on your upper arms, pulling you in for a hug. The other man stepped out of the truck and made his way over.

“You haven’t met my wife yet, have ya Fish? Just look at her man!”

Tom was a very jealous, very possessive man in general, and rarely introduced you to new people. But on occasion, especially if he was drinking, he would gush about how beautiful you were. The problem was that he always did it in a this is mine sort of way that wasn’t flattering or even sweet.

Fish, as Tom called him, walked over and seemed almost shy at first, introducing himself as Frankie.

Eventually, you would learn that they were in the military together and that ‘Fish’ was his call sign just like Tom’s was ‘Redfly.’

Frankie was tall, but not quite as tall as Tom. Dark hair from what you could see under his hat that was just long enough that it curled around the edges. Broad shoulders and hands that felt rough, but were warm when he shook your hand. His beard was patchy, but it suited him, you thought. Just a hint of gray showing he was similar in age to Tom.

You were just about to ask how he and Tom knew each other, when Tom tried to take a peek down the top of your shirt… making a very blatant show of his intentions, going so far as to say “isn’t she sexy, Fish?” The discomfort showing on Frankie’s face matched your own, so when he suggested getting Tom inside, you silently thanked him with a nod.

The walk to your bedroom was silent, aside from Tom’s babbling. You and Frankie were on either side of him and you plopped him on the bed where he fell flat on his back. You nodded toward the door and Frankie made his way out, saying “G’night man —sleep it off and I’ll see you tomorrow,” after patting Tom’s leg in a friendly gesture.. almost pitying his friend, he shook his head as he walked out the door. You followed him outside and walked him to his truck.

“Thank you for bringing him home. And for helping me get him in the house.”

“Not a problem. He’s always been a lightweight and he had already started by the time I got there.”

Again, he shook his head and chuckled slightly before asking, “are you gonna be ok? I mean, do you need any extra help with him?”

“Oh. No, no, I’ll be fine” you look behind you toward the house. “He usually falls asleep pretty quickly once he’s in bed,” only a half lie.

“Ok then, well it was nice to meet you. I didn’t catch your name before.”

You tell him your name and he repeats it back and smiles slightly. “Have a good night.”

“You too..”

You watch the truck drive away until you no longer see the taillights. You know what’s waiting for you when you get back, so you don’t want to rush your walk back into the house.

There’s a reason Tom is a lightweight�� He rarely drinks, normally only indulging when it’s fight night, so on occasion, he goes all out. These are the nights that weren’t a part of your arrangement. These nights, you adhere to your expectations as a wife… these nights you knew not to fight him. But something about tonight seemed different, and you’re not sure what brought on the change. Your only thought was maybe it had something to do with Frankie being in town…. You had never met him before tonight, so it seemed as though he didn’t live in the area or that he lived in the City. Whatever the reason, you wouldn’t find out tonight.

When you go back inside, Tom is ready and waiting for you.

Backstory: 

Thea grew up in Reno, Nevada. Her parents were successful doctors at a local hospital and she was often left in the care of babysitters or after school clubs to account for their busy schedules. It didn’t bother her at first – little kids aren’t always aware of these things. But the older she got, the more she felt their absence. They provided for her. They loved her. But they weren’t present. She’d notice their absence on bleachers during sports games and the empty seats during speeches and the lack of presence during school functions and beyond. Sure, they’d go on vacation once a year and spend holidays together, but the daily ebb and flow of Thea’s life was largely sustained by herself.

She worked hard, thinking it’d make them proud. That it would get their attention. And it did in some ways – they’d praise her report cards and the feedback from teachers. But they didn’t ask what she wanted to do. About class projects. About her friends or the boy she had a crush on. Thea was self-sufficient in this way and eventually learned to live without their presence in the most important parts of her life. 

They were there and they loved her, but she stopped expecting more than the minimum. Or, at least, she tried to stop. Eventually, she did follow in their footsteps, whether of her own volition or through a subliminal hail mary to earn their interest didn’t matter. She was good at what she did. She was good at helping people and seeing solutions to problems that presented themselves.

Thea was matched with a hospital in Utah where she completed her residency and stayed for several years before moving to a hospital in Ridgeview Wyoming. In Ridgeview she met Oskar Ranstrom and her life changed for the better. He was someone who saw her, valued her and pushed her to be the best version of herself. Over a year ago, Oskar and Thea took in their niece, Noelle, Felix's daughter. Her mother died from an overdose and both Oskar and Thea refused to see the girl go into care. Thea wants to see her brother-in-law on a different path, not just for themselves, but for Noelle. The sweet little girl who’s captured her, Oskar and Henrik’s hearts. Anthony's Stupid Daily Blog (985): Sun 1st Dec 2024

Man it feels like there is no time passing in between shifts thanks to this damn overtime. As soon as I get home I basically go straight to sleep and the sleep seems to last five minutes before I’m up and back in the car to work. As I exited the car this morning and prepared to walk to the building I muttered to myself “This is ridiculous. It feels like I was just here”. I keep reminding myself that the money I’m making during these long brutal shifts is paying for my trip to Europe and maybe Hawaii next year but being alone with your thoughts for this long is an insane burden. Also unlike last year I won’t have an immediate holiday in sunny Gran Canaria to make all the pain go away as I’ll be spending the next five months saving every penny. To make things worse I’m getting tingles and stabbing pains in my arms and legs which has convinced me that I have another cunting herniated disc but that’s a story for another day, a day when the disc pushes so far into my spinal column that it causes my legs to spring upwards and my feet to get lodged in my eye sockets. Today was so busy that we actually ran out of carts. A company that primarily uses carts to transport stock around ran out of carts. That’s like KFC running out of buckets and just piling all the chicken up on the counters and telling the customers to pick out only what they ordered. On my lunch break I read a story about a 100 year old Nazi prison guard who is to go on trial soon. I was genuinely surprised that there are still people with links to Nazi Germany still alive as I assumed they’d all be dead by now. When I look at all the wrestlers from WCW who have died it depresses me that they are no longer around but some cunts who stood guard at Auschwitz are still alive and kicking. It’s weird because I’ve heard about quite a lot of people being charged due to their apparent links to the Nazis over the last few years and it’s surprising to me that so many of them lived to old age. Has anyone bothered to investigate what the Nazi’s secret is because they’re clearly doing something that’s extending their life. Maybe it’ll turn out that goose-stepping is the ultimate exercise and leads to better circulation and less risk of heart failure or something. As an experiment I’m going to start goose stepping everywhere I go and see if it improves my health in any way. Even if it doesn’t then at least I’ll have a story to turn into an Edinburgh Fringe show about the year that I spent goose stepping and the wacky situations it got me into

Mainly I'm only doing this cus I just wanna like say smth so I can get it off my chest so hopefully I won't feel as stressed as I do. But every single year for the last 3 or 4 years I've gone black friday shopping with my friend and her family and when I get back to my own home I feel the holiday season finally kick in. And all year I wait and wait for this time of year but when it finally gets here it sucks. Nothing has happened around this time of year except for a few things, but thats for later or if someone wants more info (like my mutuals or smth cus I trust yall(mutuals) the most on this platform) ill do that but any other time of the year I'm fine but literally right after the end of the holiday season is my birthday (1st week of the month) and i remember every year since before 2020 I was afraid of getting older before but now it's only really during the holiday season because I'm old enough to get my license, but I don't have my permit, I've never had a partner (but thats the least of my worries right now) and too add on to it the strike in the area where I attend school is still going on. The strikes been going on for nearly a month. And I know there are WAY MORE important things than a teenage girl stressing about growing up up worrying about being alone for the rest of her damn life. Like once you turn a certain age (this is my opinion everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course) that once I reach a certain age I can't go and lean against my parents when I'm scared or stressed, and I can't go crying to them when I'm worried. I've said I've been afraid of growing up before but that was nearly 6 years ago when I was 9 or 10. I also feel like stuff has (obviously) gotten more violent around the world too, not just in the united states. The wars that are going on right now, although they don't affect me now, I still worry about the families over in those regions that are dying, injured, and sick. I've just been burnt out despite the 3 week shutdown due to th3 strike and I've been burnt out way before the strike started too. Chemistry is hard, it sucks, I have a c in painting, and my English teacher doesn't listen or even acknowledge mine (pr my friends) existence when we try ti talk to him. I've tried to convince my parents into getting me therapy, and that was shut down. Hopefully in a little while I can re ask the question because I've heard from several people now that therapy is one of the best things they've done. I dont have tramua I'm just so burnt out it's not even funny, i swear I'm not trying to unload my problems onto anyone else, which was the main reason I added the cut, so people could decide if they wanted to readbt my rant or not. Entrapdak Zine 2 - Let’s a Go!

So just like the last Entrapdak Zine issue let’s do another one! 

The deadline for this will be DEC 1st 2021 at 9AM GMT (don’t know when that is in your timezone? Please use this handy dandy online countdown tool  

As it’ll be the holiday season there will be a slightly longer delay in processing the zine this time but I assure you all it will be out as soon as possible and in time for the holidays.

Our basic guidelines are the same as before, with just a few minor updates:

This will be:

A Digital Zine containing content created by the fans for the fans

A 100% Free Zine

Preferred Language is English

You may notice I run this different to other zines as there is no sign up period, just submit work before the deadline - I’d rather people have more time to work on their pieces 

Anyone can submit regardless of age or skill level - this is not a job application - just follow the guidelines and email in your work

Submission can be Fan Writing (poems, fan fiction, character analysis, eassys etc), Fan Art, or even photos of your Entrapdak IRL content (cosplays, fancrafts etc)!  You can submit an older work that you have published online previously if you wish - or even update a work you submitted to the last Zine! Just have fun!

Guidelines applicable to all work:

Content Age Rating:

Like the show this Zine will contain content rated Y7 and PG13 rated - so please no swearing 

There WILL BE NO NSFW or 18+ content - where possible let’s keep this suitable for all ages please

Sub note on character minimum clothing requirements: 

for male presenting characters to be speedos/underpants

for female presenting characters to be a bikini/bra and underpants 

if not sure please use the female presenting criteria

Theme:

Keeping in the spirit of Entrapdak the theme if you wish to use it is:

“Holiday”

This theme is a suggestion and is also flexible enough to be interpreted as Easter, Summer Holidays, Halloween or the Christmas Holiday season! If you’d rather make an Entrapdak piece without this them please feel free to do so. I want you to have fun!

Allowed Characters:

As long as both Entrapta and Hordak are the main focus and the piece follows Age Rating it will be allowed.

Other allowed characters in the Entrapdak family include Emily, Imp and the Clones (also known as Spacebats)…yes weirdly this also  includes Horde Prime.

Other She-Ra characters will be allowed but Entrapdak is to be the core element.

Phew that’s a lotta text sorry about that - now on to the fun stuff! What sort of stuff is allowed?

Sex Swap AU, Species Swap AU, Furry AU, Toony AU, Anime AU, Fankid AU, Coffee Shop AU, married AU, Spacebat AU, just besties AU just to name the few that pop into my head! Oh yeah Canon Lab Partners Entrapdak too…hehe nearly forgot about that one XD. Make something Entrapdak related that’s PG13 rated and have fun!!

Fan Writing guidelines:

This includes fan fiction, analysis eassys, poetry or whatever else you’d like to write about.  I would ask this content to be between 1k-10k words in length, it’s not a big deal if the writing is over 10k or even if it’s 20k - write whatever your story needs. Chapters are totally okay to!

Where possible I’ll place written work on a cream or off-white background but if you’d like me to keep it exactly as you submit it I will respect your wishes.

Fan Art guidelines:

Fan art can include rough sketches, screencap redraws, comics (appox 1-10 length), coloured sketches or full colour pieces. 

Fan art can be in the digital or traditional medium.  

Traditional fan art can either be submitted as a photo or scanned, which ever you prefer.

Preferred sizing for Digital art (different from last time):

My aim to to have everything on A4 paper sizing where possible*

2480px x 3508pm DPI 132 

Portrait layout is preferred**

PNG is preferred but I will understand if you only wish to send a workable JPEG

The aspect ratio (width:height) of A4 paper is 1:1.4142 (1:√2)

Notes: 

*Images outside these sizings are still okay but may end up with a white border on the edges due to the PDF publishing settings.  

**Images in the landscape layout will get boarders when posted on a portrait page due to the PDF publishing settings, however I will make some extra pages at the end of the Zine and attempt to turn landscape art into a two page spread.

FAQs:

Why no Application form?

I don’t want anyone to feel like they are applying for a job here, this is supposed to be fun.

Will there be Guest Artists or Guest Writers?

If they apply sure, I’m not advertising who applies to be a part of this Zine until it’s ready to be published.  I don’t want anyone to feel intimidated just because a certain person has chosen to participate.

Can I submit more than one piece?

If you’d like to certainly!  If you’d like to submit up to three pieces of art and 3 fan writings, sure go for it! I’m certainly not going to stop anyone having a good time

May I post a preview of my work to my Followers?

Sure! Bonus points if you link them to this post so that they can take part if they wish

May I post my work online?

I would ask if you could please wait until the issue featuring your work is published. Of course this does not apply if you are chosen to submit and older work - in this case may I ask that you edit or add to said post to mention the work was also used in the Zine?

Is this only for people with a [insert certain social media account here]?

Nope, this is for anyone who wants to take part.  I only ask for a social media contact so that others who like you work for the Zine may follow you on your preferred social media platform.

Sure I’m happy to offer this solution to anyone who wishes to remain anonymous for whatever reason they don’t need to explain

simply upload work to a file sharing website (Google Drive or Dropbox is preferred) 

Send the link via the Tumblr Anon Ask feature on my Tumblr (this will NOT be published publicly).  

If you feel up to it please state a colour, number and choose to be a Clone or an EKS - this will be your ONLY identifier.  Failure to state any will result in a random combination chosen

Please not I DO NOT KEEP any records of anyone’s email addresses.  When the Zine is out I batch delete all emails sent to the email address and I keep no further records of these address. I respect your email privacy at all times.

Hello and welcome to Birch's 12 Days of Cheer! This is my collaboration for the end of 2021! I don't partake in any fall events, really, so this is my big to-do! If you would like to join in on this event, please read the rules below!

Please read these rules CAREFULLY!

1. You do NOT have to be a mutual of mine! I'm welcoming anyone and everyone to join this event!

2. All ages are welcomed to join this! This is an SFW blog, so all content being attributed to this event must be suitable for everyone!

3. MAXIMUM WORD LENGTH IS 1000 WORDS! Yes, you read that right! This is a drabble event! I want to keep things short, so that way things are easier to complete on time!

The first story I remember writing was about this girl who arrives to a hotel with her family for the holidays and finds out that there are some boys her age trapped in the hotel by the director of it bc of magic and that she can find a way to set them free. Basically this heroine "suddenly I have powers" story located in a resort haha. Super self indulgent and def not good but so much fun now that I think of it hm

I'm a sucker for 3rd person omniscient pov. Like yes baby tell me what everyone's thinking all the time while being reliable <3 But as you can see I write mostly in 1st person pov because... stuff happens I guess

When was the sandwich invented. And tragically, Jasper does not know what a sandwich is poor baby <3

I'd love LOVE LOVE to find a way of making my pacing better. I do like how I pace stuff but sometimes I fear that my "boring" chapters (aka the chapters that are in between arcs and as a breathing time for the readers to rest in between major intense points) are too boring...

I'm proud of my plotting abilities. Not because I believe is scepcionally good, but because I love coming up with this scenes and "directions" and seeing how magically everything falls into place cause it just makes sense you know??
