You know, when I started thinking about which of the new members of Overwatch Cassidy would relate to, I didn't think that one of the characters would be Symmetra. But holy shit their stories share so many similarities-

Used for child labor

Both were on the poorer side of the equation after being orphaned by the crisis

They have a mentor that happens to be an elite member of Talon

Both are more morally good then their respective mentors

Both have never really felt like they fit in with their respective groups (Symmetra having that being pointed out to her by her superiors)

Both have a tendency to question their higher ups, especially their mentors

Both have someone who was close with them that was from a much more stable background, but as a result of circumstance their on rocky footing now (Lifeweaver and Ashe)

I'm now convinced that at some point those two are just going to trauma dump on each other and it's just going to be;

"I was used for child labor and my mentor who I thought saved me is now a part of Talon."

Back from another trip and HOO BOY I brought back a few things! To start with though, here are JUST the things I got with my partner after visiting their local flea market and a few goodwills.

Most of this was from just three bags at one Goodwill that seemingly all came from one household getting rid of a bunch of stuff. In total they were only a bit over 20 bucks, but my partner found enough Monster High parts to be worth that much alone, let alone my picks of the lot and the other unwanted items (they work with kids, so they'll find another happy home sooner or later!)

Highlights I pulled from just this set of bags include:

IRL Minecraft Bow (no arrows)

A (recently tested functional) Bop It

A 2012 TMNT RC kart and controller (currently non-functional, may require new batteries)

A couple of clay art projects, one of which is a small turtle with a familiar blue mask painted on, and the other is a dinosaur with a shifting color light that shines through

The Shovel Knight Arby's DLC stickers (yes, a real thing that happened. Soon to be redundant thanks to DX, but oh well)

A ceramic cat statue I gave to my grandma on the way back home, which she tenderly placed alongside similar items in one of those glass cases for small things that grandmas naturally acquire

A frog valentine's day solar powered dancing guy. My mom loves those dancing guys but hates frogs so she had mixed feelings about this gift.

And the holy grail item, a 6 inch collector edition Classic Sonic figure, including display base and nearly all of his original accessories, save for a single splayed hand. This was what got us to buy the bags, as I figured the base would be a useful addition to my Sonic figure display, and we also spotted only the head in another bag. This guy alone would go for 35-150 USD depending on condition, and while mine has got some rough spots, it's still the highlight piece of the find by far.

Individually purchased items from the Goodwills include:

Jimmy Neutron for 2 bucks. Good movie, shocked I only just now got it.

Splatoon 1 for 5 bucks. Preserving the single player and local modes are enough for me, but potential Pretendo workarounds mean I could still effectively have the whole game. Probably sold my original copy for at least 5 bucks in store credit anyways.

Shrek Mug. "Shrug" for short. 5 bucks. Enough said.

Webkinz Bullfrog for 3 bucks. I've had the small version for ages as one of my most beloved childhood toys, so getting the full sized lad was cathartic. Here they now sit together in my plush collection, brothers united.

Items from the flea market include:

Symmetra funko for 4 bucks. No turret, predictably, but it'll do until I give her a custom real figure later.

Raddinyan yokai watch mini statue. 2 bucks. My first Yokai Watch merch I guess?

3-in-1 dog lego set for 7 bucks. Love the lady I get these legos cheap from, she just plays with some sets partway before deciding to sell them for cheap. Especially nice when we found the same set at target later for 20-30 bucks.

Diddy Kong Racing lunchbox for 2 bucks. Felt like a neat enough thing even if not something I wanted too badly. Apparently it goes for 30 bucks online if I wanna flip it?

And that's not even all I brought home, but the rest will be highlighted in its own post.

My persona with all of my Seven Deadly Sins OC's

Front and center: Me! Or rather my persona that I insert into every piece of media I consume 😀. They're a multiversal anomaly, which allows them to be aware of multiple timelines and universes all at once. Can rip powers straight from other worlds (like being able to open tears like Elizabeth in BioShock Infinite) and even open portals to bring objects through (like being able to get the energy sword from Halo). No matter what universe or time period they're in they have access to technology and social media. Posting pictures and updates about whatever tomfoolery they got into. Favorite way to get around is to roller blade but in the way that the one girl does in Big Hero 6. Basically just exists to cause chaos and mess with people and a way for me to be so powerful that it's stupid and laughable which is my favorite kind of powerful.

Back left: Fira. Fira is Phoenix Beastman making them a powerful deity (similar to Camila in GC). In her day to day life they pose as a fire dancer, putting on shows and traveling all over Brittania where they would eventually be found out and forced to go on the run.

Front Left: Arcadia (formerly named Anika iykyk). An OC that I've had for the last 6 years and has been through extreme changes. Arcadia is the sibling to Meliodas and Zeldris being the youngest out of them. When she was very young The Demon King and Supreme Deity made a deal for incase something went wrong in the holy war. The Supreme Deity blessed Arcadia and gifted them the powers of a goddess (hybrid mary-sueish I know..) after the holy war Arcadia wandered around from place to place eventually going to the fairy king's forest where they met King and Helbram, shenanigans ensued and Arcadia wandered around again. After that they wind up in liones after following a lead that Meliodas was being hunted by the kingdom. Wanting to desperately reunite with her brother, she posed as a Holy Knight.

Back right: Quinni/Elianna, even though they're one of my most recent OC's they're much more developed. Quinni was a princess in a small tyrannical Kingdom. She was also completely blind. Her mother was a druid and died when Quinni was 16. Quinni is also related to one of Elizabeth's incarnations, they were sisters. A few days after Quinni's 21st birthday Elizabeth fell 'ill' (really she had fallen unconscious as she was regaining her memories) and Quinni went off alone to pick up some herbs to help Elizabeth. As she was out, one of the knights led her out of the kingdom and into the woods where she was later abducted by a cult that worshipped chaos. That cult managed to summon a small piece of Chaos and bind it to Quinni. Afterwards she took on the name Elianna and using the newfound power, escaped from the cult. One more thing is that as Quinni she has long white hair and white eyes but after being fused with chaos and becoming Elianna their eyes became a soulless black and they have short black hair. Their skin also fades into darkness as if they are part shadow.

Front left: Vietra. Vietra is a goddess who is the sister of the original Elizabeth, being her older sister. She didn't play a very big role in the holy war and was able to get away with it because the Supreme Deity was to busy cursing Elizabeth. She managed to escape the goddess realm before the end of the holy war and wandered Britannia mourning the loss of her sister. The loss drove her mad and the people sparked legends about her calling her the weeping siren. (I came up with this on a whim🥰 I also was going to name her Vienna but then I started thinking about Symmetra from OW and my brain mushed the names together)

once upon a time, being a gamer kind of used to be nayoung's dirty little secret.

it's not as much anymore, as she's gotten older and grown exasperated with maintaining the same carefully-crafted pretenses she once did. she doesn't talk openly about it, sure, but she's not so sneaky about it anymore.

she also doesn't get to play as much anymore, thanks to training, and especially next gen, but she's gotten back into it more recently.

she's still really good, of course, but she can tell she's rusty, so when she fires up overwatch 2, she decides to warm up in quickplay until she's confident she can play well in a ranked match.

the problem is, the game always puts her in the most horseshit stupid ass quickplay lobbies. she gets that the game doesn't bother keeping skill levels as even in these matches, but holy shit, how can some people be so stupid and bad at the game?

nayoung has been checking the scoreboard periodically, mainly when she dies, which is far too often because her supports are garbage – and the other dps's stats are just god awful.

and what do you know, said other dps is in team voice asking for backup. they're another girl, presumably, which is tragic, because this just reinforces the misogynist stereotype of girls being bad at video games.

nayoung turns in the game to face where her teammate is frantically pinging, and takes a shot – misses, but on the second shot she headshots the tracer and kills her instantly.

"tracer dead. also, can you stick to one hero? holy shit," she says into the team chat, exasperated. "maybe play, i don't know, torb, so you can at least put a turret up and contribute something to the team. or symmetra." those heroes are usually pretty good in lobbies full of idiots. nobody ever shoots the turrets.

some games just aren't made with sua in mind. not her playstyle, too serious or not serious enough. sua's a person who makes her own fun with games, especially ones she doesn't play as often. or care to play.

it's chat's choice today, and overwatch 2 is something apparently they've been dying to get her to play-- but once she starts a couple games, she realizes quickly why they wanted her to play this game so badly.

she's terrible at it.

"what-- okay." sua laughs outloud in disbelief as she once again dies right outside of their spawn. her chat is going at lightspeed, all emotes-- and she knows she's the butt of the joke. she can feel her eye twitching. "zelda puzzles don't even get me this tilted."

chancing another glance at chat just makes her laugh. ####: bro ur cooked ####: LMAOOOOO your team mad af ####: never give up never what

"do i need to switch again? what about robot guy?" she clicks bastion from junkrat once she has to option to in spawn. she doesn't know how many times she's changed characters at this point. she's started as ashe because she was sexy, then it's just been character change after character change because sua doesn't know what the fuck she's doing.

she yelps when something shoots her from behind, and she visibly panics on screen, going what, what, what as she strafes on screen. there's a tracer flying around, and sua's frantically pinging anywhere she can. "uh," she hits the button for team chat. "a little help here?"
