hoh nancy wheeler
(tagging @netflixnormalthings for their awesome research and screenshots and @lumaxramblings bc we had Many discussions abt hoh nancy)
so a few weeks ago i made this post, about nancy not wearing earplugs and using the shotgun (and guns in general over the seasons) and how this affected her hearing. but then it really did get me thinking: why don't we see more content about hard of hearing nancy wheeler?
i see hoh steve all the time, which is fair! steve has gotten his fair share of head trauma and no doubt has problems from this. (and i do love hoh steve! don't get me wrong!) but i rarely see anything about hoh nancy, even though she has consistently dealt with firearms since season 1 without the proper ear protection.
just for reference: whispering is around 30 decibels, normal speaking voices around 60 db, and anything above 70 db for extended amounts of time will start to damage the ear, and anything over 120 db will cause immediate damage to the ears.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
for reference: in season 4, nancy fires the shotgun four times while blasting vecna out of the window. in season 3, she fires hoppers shotgun a few times during the fight at the cabin, and this doesn't include firing at billy or the fireworks they all set off inside starcourt (which, should've given them all a little hearing damage, if we're honest).(fireworks decibels + info under the cut!) nor does it account for the times she shot at the demogorgon in season 1.
anyway, the point is: there is no way that nancy is not hard of hearing. firing a shotgun once without protection is enough to blow your hearing out, but four times? and it's not even the first time she's dealt with firearms. she's shown to be one of the most, if not the most, proficient with guns. noise induced hearing loss is a very real thing, it damages the hair cells within the ear--these cannot grow back. and shotguns breach the threshold where just one close and sudden exposure can cause instant and permanent hearing loss.
there isn't much else for me to say here, this was really just a comprehensive guide, or even "proof" that nancy should be hard of hearing, or at least a wider accepted headcanon than it is. give me nancy, who, after even season 1, starts to have a hard time hearing what other people are saying, and learns to read lips instead. give me stubborn nancy who won't admit that there's anything wrong, that she can hear just fine, thank you, and she doesn't need help. i know nancy typically has the best hearing out of the main cast, usually the one who hears the danger first, but i don't know...it just seems more plausible to me for nancy to be hard of hearing.

Steddie Week 2024
July 6th Prompt: Dizzy
Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5 | Day 7
@steddie-week
Steve stands up, and that’s where it all goes wrong.
His intent was to grab more drinks from the fridge, but when he stood, he blinked a few times. “Whoa,” he murmurs.
“Steve?” Robin asks. She sounds like she’s at the end of a long tunnel.
“Steve?” Eddie asks. He sounds closer, but not as close as he should.
“‘M fine,” he says, “jus’ dizzy.”
Then he’s waking up in the hospital. “What,” he asks, then doesn’t complete the thought because Robin and Eddie are both standing over him, one on each side, holding each of his hands, and he’d feel so much love if he could feel anything besides general panic because- “I can’t hear you,” he says, breathing picking up. “I can’t- please, I- I need-”
Eddie shuts up, staring at him with wide eyes, and after a second of hesitation, places Steve’s hand, palm down, on his chest. He takes deep, purposeful breaths, and Steve can feel his hand moving, feel the breaths, feel his heartbeat-
He takes a breath. Another. Another. By that time, Nancy had gotten a doctor.
Later, he’ll learn this is something they’d been watching for, but couldn’t be sure of until he woke up. Later, he’ll learn that Eddie lays awake at night, sometimes, hearing the sound Robin makes.
All he knows right now is how to keep breathing, how to keep holding Robin’s hand, how to believe he’ll be okay, because he has to.
He has to.
He stays with Eddie upon his release, because they’re together most days anyways, and it’s a certain kind of torture on Steve’s heart because Eddie’s started carrying around a notebook and a pen just to write to Steve whatever he was gonna say, and Steve doesn’t think he could love another person more than he did, but here’s the proof, apparently.
They’re sharing a bed, because Wayne had previously called their couch “older than Jesus,” and Steve lasted for all of an hour on it before slipping into Eddie’s room.
The good thing about sharing a room is it helps curb the nightmares for a time.
Eventually, though, they come back with a vengeance.
Steve’s laying in bed, like he does every night, when he rolls over to face Eddie. “Eddie?” He asks. Eddie’s always last to sleep, so Steve’s not hesitant about asking, except Eddie doesn’t answer.
“Eddie?” He asks again, jostling Eddie’s shoulder a bit.
Suddenly he shoots up in the air, and Steve bites back a yell.
Suddenly there’s a voice that sounds like it’s coming from everywhere and nowhere, reverberating off the corners of the room, echoing louder and louder. You took everything from me. Eddie’s arms snap, and Steve yells, scrambles up, music, except what’s his favorite song—that puppet one, metal, come on brain, think—but there’s nothing here but country, bluegrass, stuff Wayne likes, and Steve turns to watch the blood drain from Eddie’s face as another gristly crunch echoes, louder than anything so far. So I’ll take everything from you!
Something reaches out for him, grabs his shoulder, and he yells, twists around, pushes away, hard enough he falls on the ground. He opens his eyes to see Eddie on his bed, Steve sitting just off it, eyes wide and hand reaching to help, stalled halfway. Illuminated by the lamp, too, which wasn’t on half a second ago.
Steve blinks at him, looks at the room. No floating Eddie in the middle of it.
“Dream?” He asks. Eddie nods. He stifles the sob and practically launches himself onto the bed, into Eddie’s arms, lets himself shake apart because he can.
Eventually he feels reverberating in Eddie’s chest that he knows means words, means speaking, so he looks up at Eddie, who’s looking at the door.
He turns to look, too, and sees Wayne. “S-sorry,” he tries, still sniffling.
Wayne shakes his head at him, walks into the room, sits on the edge of the bed. Offers his arms out in a hug.
Steve thought he was done crying. Trust Wayne to prove him wrong, because he’s tearing up all over again as he leans into Wayne.
His new position means he can see Eddie, who points at him, makes a talking motion with his hand, then points at himself and Wayne. Steve frowns. “You… want me to tell you?”
Eddie points at Steve again, insistently, and Steve understands: your choice.
“I can,” he agrees. “We were in bed and I was tryin’a talk to you, but you didn’t answer, and I kept trying to get your attention, but suddenly you- you were up in the air, and your arms and legs broke, and a voice—it was Vecna, I didn’t recognize it in the dream—said I’d taken everything from him so he was gonna take everything from me. And I was trying to find music, but I couldn’t remember the name of your favorite song, and the only stuff in here was Wayne’s stuff, country and bluegrass and stuff like that, and…” he sighs out a broken sob. “I couldn’t save you.”
Eddie reaches for his hand, but suddenly that’s not enough, he needs to be able to feel his heartbeat, have his breathing move Steve’s hand, so he tips over into Eddie again, gets his hand on his chest and his face in the side of his neck.
Eddie says something, but before Steve can move Wayne’s got a comforting hand on his back. He removes it after a minute, and Steve can feel the shift in the bed of him getting up, but before he can mourn the loss, Eddie’s got his arms wrapped around Steve as he carefully lowers them back down. He rubs a hand up and down Steve’s spine, slips the other into Steve’s hair.
Steve falls asleep like that.
He wakes up in almost the same position. He tries to apologize, but Eddie waves him off, hands him some clothes and points to the bathroom before pointing to himself and miming cooking.
Steve’s heart clenches at the thought. “Okay,” he whispers.
Robin comes over later, and they sit on the front steps as he recounts what had happened. “He’s just so sweet,” he sighs. “And I’m an idiot who’s letting my heart get involved.”
Robin wraps an arm around his shoulders and kisses his temple. It doesn’t help as much as he’d hoped it would, but he appreciates the gesture anyways.
Later she leaves, and Eddie pulls out his dedicated Steve Notebook.
I’ve got a friend in Indy who knows sign language. I could give her a call, if you want? He writes, and again Steve’s all but overcome with love for this man.
Instead of anything he wants to do, he just nods. Eddie grins and hops up to use the phone.
He’s back in a couple of minutes, collapses onto the couch with the notebook before furiously scribbling and handing it to Steve.
I spoke to my friend. She says sorry and it sucks, first of all. Steve snorts and nods. She’s willing to talk to you, get you started, maybe even get you some books. Does tomorrow work?
Steve gapes up at Eddie. “Tomorrow?”
Eddie nods and grins, then points at Steve in a gesture Steve knows has come to mean you decide.
“That would be great,” he says. “Seriously, I- thank you, Eddie.”
Eddie waves him off, but Steve can see the happy little blush on his cheeks.
They head out the next day. It’s probably twenty minutes into the drive, and even with Eddie sitting next to him in the driver’s seat, it feels lonely. He never realized how much he’d miss the sound of tires on asphalt. He wasn’t ever truly into music, like Eddie is, but he misses the radio. He misses the wind rushing past, the silence that’s possible to share when both people can hear-
He doesn’t realize he’s crying until Eddie’s pulled over, a hand on his cheek and a concerned expression on his face. “Sorry,” he tries. Eddie shakes his head, presses his palm more firmly to Steve’s cheek. “Fuck,” he mutters. “‘S stupid. Just… felt alone. I dunno. There’s, like, a million little things you hear every day that you don’t think about, like the way your hands tap the steering wheel when you turn, or the way your clothes shift and rub against each other, and it’s all silent now, and there’s not even music, and-” he takes a deep, shaky breath. Lets it out as evenly as he can. “I just… felt really alone all of a sudden.”
Eddie brushes his thumb along Steve’s cheekbone as he thinks. Suddenly, he grins and moves his hand, shoving a tape into the deck and cranking the sound. He demonstratively puts his hand on the door. Steve laughs and does the same, gasping when he feels the vibrations of the song move through him. He can’t tell notes, but it’s something, and then Eddie carefully reaches for his hand, keeps his grip relaxed until Steve smiles at him and tightens his own fingers around Eddie’s. “Thank you,” he whispers.
Eddie smiles, nods, and gets back on the road.
They arrive at his friend’s apartment in no time, and Steve would be jealous at the length of the hug if Eddie didn’t immediately step back to grab Steve’s hand again. Based on his hand motions, he’s introducing Steve.
She asks Eddie something, and he turns bright red, pulling a strand of hair across his face as he glances at Steve before looking back at her and answering.
She invites them in, scribbles on a little chalkboard, and hands it to Steve with a smile. Hi, Steve! My name is Nicole. It’s nice to meet you.
He grins up at her. “It’s nice to meet you, too.”
She takes the chalkboard back, scribbles something else. Eddie tells me you recently lost your hearing. Do you mind me asking about that?
“Not at all,” Steve says, then frowns, somehow just now realizing he doesn’t know the full extent of what happened. “Honestly, all I know is I stood up and got really dizzy, and then I was waking up in the hospital.” He shrugs. “I’ve had a couple of pretty bad concussions, and I guess whatever made me pass out also just… took my hearing.” He shrugs.
Eddie shakes his head, grabs for the chalkboard. Almost. He bites his lip. You passed out, and I wasn’t fast enough. You hit your head on the floor. He looks away, takes a deep breath. I’m sorry.
“That is not your fault, Eds,” Steve tells him firmly. Eddie won’t look him in the eyes, so Steve grabs his chin. “Hey, look at me. Not your fault. I don’t blame you. Okay?”
Eddie shrugs, pointing to himself with a self-deprecating smile, and Steve knows what he’s trying to say. I do.
“Well I don’t,” Steve says. “But if- if you need to hear it. I forgive you, okay?”
Eddie nods, eyes big and wet, and Steve pulls him into a hug.
Eddie suddenly laughs, pulling away to wipe his eyes before saying something to Nicole.
Right. They’re not alone. “Sorry,” he tells her, but she waves him off, handing over the chalkboard again. I think we’ll start on the alphabet today. That way you can at least finger spell what you need, even if it’s slow.
“Sounds good,” he says, and she nods, talking the chalkboard to write the alphabet.
Slowly but surely, she teaches Steve and Eddie the alphabet. They get a little tripped up on some of the letters, most noticeably p and q, until Nicole takes pity on them and makes a p. She uses her other hand to draw a line down both her extended fingers, then tracing her own legs. She taps her thumb, peeking out between the two, and with a mischievous grin, points between Steve and Eddie’s legs.
They share a look and burst out laughing, but they don’t forget those letters again.
By the end of the day, they’ve gotten through the alphabet with enough regularity that Nicole feels they can practice on each other.
Steve pauses before they leave. T-h-a-n-k, then a pause, then y-o-u.
Nicole smiles, presses her fingertips to her lips, then brings her hand down to chest height, palm up. She does the motion again, and Steve copies her, grinning when she nods excitedly.
“Thank you,” he signs and says, grinning even wider when she pulls him into a quick hug before waving at him and Eddie.
They wave back and pile into the van, Steve’s hand in Eddie’s before Steve can practically blink. He smiles, unbearably fond, and squeezes to get his attention before signing, “Thank you.”
Eddie just smiles back, throws the van into reverse, and starts home.
They practice more while they make dinner, throwing words like spatula and stir and chop around, and Steve didn’t realize learning could be this fun.
He’s watching Eddie stir the broth, hips moving in a little dance to a song only Eddie knows, and his heart is so full, he has to say something before his heart bursts. “I’m gonna say something that’s gonna sound incredibly sappy,” he says. “But just… please just listen until the end? And try not to tease me too much.”
Eddie just smiles, grabs his hand and squeezes, and Steve takes a breath before starting.
“I’m glad it’s you. I’m glad you were there that day, I’m glad you were there when I woke up at the hospital, I’m glad you were there when I realized going home meant being completely alone. I’m glad you made a complete fool of yourself in the hospital lobby, doing charades to let me know I could stay here.” He takes a breath. “I’m glad you have Nicole, because it lets me talk with you easier. I’m glad you never once let me feel like I’m alone, or like I’m going through this alone. I’m glad you’re learning with me. I’m glad you’re making this fun. I didn’t know learning could be fun, but it is with you, and I-” he takes a breath, swallows the three words that want to come out. “I’m glad it’s you,” Steve whispers, “here, at the end of all things.”
He doesn’t realize he’s crying until Eddie’s hands are cradling his cheeks, wiping away tears. Eddie’s just as teary-eyed, though, and he pulls away, looking for the notebook. Please don’t punch me.
Steve looks up, brows furrowed, to watch Eddie spell something. I l-o-v-
That’s as far as he gets before Steve gasps, understanding, or hoping he understands, and pulls Eddie into a kiss.
He pulls back almost immediately to check that’s correct, that that is what Eddie was trying to say, when Eddie pulls him back in, dinner be damned, crowding him in against the counter and doing his best to lick into Steve’s mouth.
Steve lets him, pulling away for a sharp inhale before diving right back in, fingers tight in Eddie’s hair and the back of his shirt, and there’s a sudden vibration that he just knows means Eddie moans, and suddenly he’s dizzy again, but this time he welcomes it, because this time he’s not passing out; this time, he’s dizzy because he’s drunk on love.

hoh steve (steddie)
“Steve,” Robin calls right as he’s preparing to jump. He turns and looks at her, head tilted, and she taps her ear. Eddie watches as Steve’s face goes through several emotions, annoyance, trepidation, resignation, before reaching up and pulling something from his ear. He drops it in her hand with a sigh, and Robin makes some kind of motion with her hands.
He gives her a reluctant thumbs up back, and dives.
“So, what was that?” Eddie asks after a few seconds, while they all peer into the water.
“What’s what?”
“The…“ he pokes his own ear, “the thing he gave you.”
“Oh, it’s—“ she starts, but then Steve comes up for air and everything is forgotten.
“—unambiguous a sign of true love as these cynical eyes have ever seen,” Eddie finishes with a flourish. He doesn’t know why he’s doing this, except that Steve seems like he’s actually a good guy, and deserves to be happy. Eddie knows it will never be him that does that. So matchmaking it is.
Steve doesn’t say anything, just stares blankly at his lips, brow furrowed. He looks up at the girls, and Eddie assumes he’s looking at Nancy, contemplating their future together.
“Hey Robin?” Steve calls out a little too loud, dashing all of Eddie’s assumptions on the rocks.
She turns around, tilting her head and jogging back to them. Nancy keeps going on, because she’s got the biggest balls of anyone Eddie’s ever met and will not be stopped by man nor hellbeast.
Steve points to his left ear, the one Eddie’s on the side of. “Do you have it?”
Robin moves closer to his right, hitching her voice a little louder. “I couldn’t exactly take it into the lake with me, Dingus.”
“Great,” he groans, “lost my hearing aid and my favorite sweater. Fuck this place, seriously.”
Eddie’s eyes widen. Hearing aid? He would have noticed a hearing aid, right?
Steve turns to him with a grimace. “Sorry man,” he says, “I caught, like, maybe half of what you were saying. Something about trying to fix my friendship with Nancy?”

*raises head from chest while violently sobbing* autistic steve who‘s not accepted or accomodated by his parents and is forced to mask all the time, because harrington’s can’t be „weird“.
nancy‘s the first person who catches on and lets steve unmask around her, she knows how to help with certain things because she has experience with mike who‘s also autistic.
steve seeing dustin freely stim and infodump and realizing he‘s allowed to do that too.
robin being the person steve feels the most free around, they can communicate without using many or any words.
eddie helping him through meltdowns and cuddling him afterwards, while steve does the same for him. he encourages him to do things related to his special interests, knowing how important they are to him, and how his parents always used to keep him from them.
when steve loses most of his hearing, no one in the party needs to learn sign language because they already did - in case one of them (most often it‘s steve) goes nonverbal.

hi just read the latest chapter it was really good <3 i've seen some ideas abt a hoh (hard of hearing) nancy considering how many guns she's shot without earphones or anything. so if you're still accepting prompts i would love to see hoh nancy - maybe like she's trying to pretend her hearings fine but robin notices something's up and nancy reluctantly admits she's having trouble hearing but is really refusing to get any help and robin has to convince her to go to the doctor abt it or something. i would love to see your take on it but no pressure tho <3
Such a great idea!
Hope you like what I did with it! :)

@disabledbillyandsteveweek Day 5 - Relationships
My whopper ficlet to celebrate my 18th birthday!
Trigger warning for Nancy
——————————————————————————————————
Nancy undoubtedly was Steve’s first love. He loved her laugh. Her smile. Her hair. Her brains. He just loved her. He loved when he cuddled her. He loved when he made her happy. He loved that he could give, give and give. He loved that Nancy loved him.
Bullshit.
Their entire relationship gone in one word.
Bullshit.
It broke Steve. Nancy had never loved him. Nancy cheated on him with Jonathan. Sure, it was at the very end of their relationship when they had fallen apart. But they were still together.
Bullshit.
Steve had given Nancy his everything. King Steve was gone. The act was all he had back then. His shield because he wasn’t quite like everyone else. But he had given it up. Because he had Nancy. But now he didn’t have Nancy.
No Nancy. No title. Nothing. What was he now?
Bullshit.
Steve had a broken crown and a broken heart. He had the fact that he had become a glorified babysitter. He had the kids. One of which was Nancy’s little brother. He couldn’t escape her. That used to be romantic.
Now she had Jonathan with her. Now Steve was broken and useless without her. He had nothing to fill that hole in his heart that longed to love and be loved. No fake popularity. No one who loved him. Just a bunch of kids he could drive around and the constant sight of his ex and the man she cheated on him with.
Bullshit.
——————————————————————————————————
Then he started at Scoops Ahoy and the summer from Hell began. But he met Robin.
Boy, if Steve thought that he loved making Nancy laugh, he was wrong. He really, really loved making Robin laugh. So much made Robin laugh. Not jokes like King Steve made. Not Nancy laughing at him being stupid. Robin and him laughed at everything. It was them.
Steve had finally found his soulmate. The one who could make him laugh alongside them. The one who would give as much as Steve would give. Someone who could match his energy and made him feel like he didn’t have to be someone else. Someone who got when everything became too much.
At first, it felt like a punch to the gut that Robin didn’t like him back but the second that Steve imagined him and Robin kissing, he shuddered. Robin and him were not romantic soulmates. Just platonic with a capital P.
They found similarities. Robin was autistic. And it turns out so was Steve. It was hard to stop after so many years of pretending that he was “normal” but he finally had somebody who wouldn’t judge him for it. Not like Nancy would have.
Robin and Steve. Steve and Robin.
They did everything together.
They talked about girls together. Vickie. Whatever girl Steve had a date with. The ultimate wingman or woman for one another. It felt like Steve could be happy without romance. Like he was worth more than just what he could give to people.
Really, Steve wouldn’t be surprised if they were twins separated at birth.
Twin souls.
——————————————————————————————————
Eddie Munson was a first for Steve. The first crush on a guy he registered. Looking back there were others. But Eddie?
No, that was so obvious to Steve.
He wanted to hold him close. Kiss him. Listen to him. To be part of Eddie’s life. He felt the urge to give as he often did in relationships. To give his all and his everything. Like he needed to unload all of his love.
Robin was ecstatic when he told her. She asked if he could be bisexual. Steve hadn’t known what that meant but after a quick talk, yeah. Steve was bisexual.
But he couldn’t have Eddie Munson. No, Eddie hated him. For what he did in school. For who he used to be. He didn’t fit with that image anymore but no one could forget King Steve.
Billy Hargrove died thinking that Steve was just King Steve. And when Steve thought about it, holy shit, he had definitely been attracted to Billy. Despite everything.
But this was about Eddie. Did Steve have a thing for bad boys? Unattainable bad boys.
Because he could never have Eddie Munson.
Because Eddie had a girlfriend.
——————————————————————————————————
Steve didn’t mean for it to happen. But him and Eddie practically had shared custody over the kids and were basically forced to become friends.
As such he became friends with Eddie’s girlfriend, Chrissy.
Shit, he could see why they loved each other. Whilst Eddie was all metal on the outside and dorky on the inside, Chrissy looked perfectly preppy but was a absolute badass on the inside. Chrissy was sweet but would definitely kill someone who dared to harm the ones she loved.
It wasn’t Steve’s fault that he fell for her too. That he wanted to be a part of Chrissy and Eddie’s relationship. He wanted them both in the most pure and the most dirty ways. Steve was convinced he was broken again. You couldn’t want more than one person.
Of course, Steve wasn’t the only one who fell. Chrissy was just so loveable. Robin had a big fat crush on her too. But it was okay because they knew that the other liked her. And Eddie in Steve’s case. But they would never get what they wanted.
Because it was impossible.
——————————————————————————————————
They all had wanted out. Out of Hawkins. They had defeated Vecna. It was over.
But still they couldn’t stay there.
So that was how Steve was sharing an apartment with his two crushes who were dating each other and his twin soul who were so alike they had a crush on the same person.
It was there that the doctor noticed something. Steve had his head bashed just one too many times. They found out that Steve had a traumatic brain injury. Not only that but Steve had lost part of his hearing. He had to get a hearing aid.
That was tough on Steve. He couldn’t get out of bed most days. But his roommates were the reason he was able to carry on.
Robin would treat him pretty much as normal. Like the entire world hadn’t shifted. But it was the little things for him. She encouraged him to learn sone sign language. She learnt with him. She encouraged him to take more breaks throughout the day.
Eddie was a bit more tough love style. When Steve needed to get up but didn’t want to, Eddie dragged him up. When Steve needed to sit down but was too dizzy to move, Eddie would pick him up and bring him to his bed or the couch. He would bring him food and water.
Chrissy checked on him emotionally more than anything. She sat and talked with him for hours. She listen to him about his day or his past or whatever he wanted to talk about. She shared her troubles with anorexia or her more recent issues with being mostly blind which showed him that he wasn’t alone in some weird way.
So a couple of months later, Steve was nervous when Eddie and Chrissy called a roommate meeting. Him and Robin had shared a glance to confirm that neither knew what this was about.
They never expected it.
Eddie and Chrissy came out. Eddie was omnisexual. Chrissy was pansexual. They were together but they were polyamorous. They wanted to date Steve and Robin. Well, Chrissy wanted to date Robin. Eddie didn’t want to date Robin. He knew Robin wasn’t into dudes.
And now?
Well, Steve and his twin soul had found romantic happiness. They shared a girlfriend. Then Steve and that girlfriend shared a boyfriend. They were actually able to have what seemed impossible.
——————————————————————————————————
It was a bit after that when Nancy came back into his life.
As Nancy always wanted, she went to a big university for journalism. She had the picture perfect life. Until she tore it all down.
Steve was the one who answered her call. Who sat talking to the first person to break his heart as she cried her eyes out. Jonathan and her had broke up. It was over tears that Nancy apologised, because she knew she had treated Steve badly and then she treated Jonathan in the same way.
But Nancy had figured out that puzzle now. She didn’t love Steve romantically. She didn’t even love Jonathan romantically. She apologised to Steve for not realising that she could never have loved him romantically, no matter how hard she had tried. Nancy didn’t like dudes.
Steve felt that old bitterness at Nancy, for she really had been awful. But he set it aside. He told her that it was okay that she liked women. Yes, her mum could kick her out. But Nancy would be okay. But she couldn’t lie to herself or others anymore. The only way she could find true happiness was being true to herself. She would be okay.
Steve fell asleep crying that night. In the arms of the three people who he loved most in this world. And Steve would be okay.
——————————————————————————————————
After Nancy’s call, it seemed that the past wouldn’t leave them alone.
They got a new set of neighbours. The kids from before had moved out. A new trio of young adults moved in.
The first one he met was a dark haired person called Eden. Eden seemed friendly enough and was also definitely queer. Robin thought to ask their pronouns. Eden was non-binary. They were dating one of their roommates. A queer solidarity formed between the two apartments.
It wasn’t until a week later that Steve met Eden’s roommates.
He hadn’t recognised Argyle. He had only met the man once. Jonathan, however, he registered immediately.
And it was awkward.
But they tried. And they tried.
One night, Jonathan asked to speak to Steve. Alone.
They talked about Nancy. Nancy who had broke both of their hearts but they were both glad she was happy now. According to Jonathan, Nancy moved to New York to further her journalism. She had also found a girlfriend who she was extremely happy with. Who she was in love with.
And Jonathan was in love too. With Argyle who was also dating Eden.
And Steve melted the fear off Jonathan’s face when he told him about his polycule. How in love Steve was.
They got along much better after that.
——————————————————————————————————
It was Chrissy who suggested it.
She had said it to Steve, Eddie and Robin first. She liked Jonathan. She wanted to date him. She wanted to ask him out. And she knew that Eddie and Steve felt the same way. Chrissy was always the most perceptive out of them despite her not being able to actually see anything.
It was Steve who made the second suggestion. Really, he enjoyed spending time with Argyle too so he might ask Argyle out as well.
Robin nodded and continued to slurp down spaghetti.
They asked Jonathan, Argyle and Eden the next morning. The date was due for that evening.
Steve and Jonathan found themselves alone together in the kitchen. They cooked popcorn together and made fun of each other. It was easy in a way that they hadn’t quite managed before.
Jonathan kissed Steve on his way out.
Argyle did too obviously.
——————————————————————————————————
If you had told King Steve what his life would look like now, he wouldn’t have believed you.
He would have said that he wanted to work for his dad, marry Nancy and carry on his family legacy.
But Steve was happier than ever.
He didn’t speak to his parents.
He didn’t speak to Nancy.
He lived with his best friend and twin soul, Robin Buckley, who made silly jokes with him and taught him to be loud and proud with his differences.
Eddie Munson was his boyfriend. They tumble around in play fights and Steve watches Eddie run the Hellfire club. He would sometimes even join in.
Chrissy Cunningham was his girlfriend who cuddled with him on the couch and was the person he confided all his secrets in.
Jonathan Byers was his boyfriend. He posed for Jonathan’s photos and they kissed over a pot of buttery popcorn.
Argyle was his boyfriend who also had a scary amount of weed. But he was soft and sweet. He calmed Steve down with his smooth tones and relaxed attitude. He grounded him.
Yeah, Steve was content with his life. Ready to take whatever comes next face on with his partners.
For once in his life everything was not…
Bullshit.

A hoh!Nancy prompt?!
Finally I've properly written this!
Robin tries to make life easier for Nancy as she adjusts to losing her hearing.
The TV
“I know, I just don’t know if I’m the right person to be spending time with her. I mean, I’m sort of notorious for constantly talking. My mom says I have too many thoughts and too little time.” Robin told her. “I’m gonna blurt out an essay she can’t hear and it’s gonna make her feel even worse.”
“She can hear, Robin.” Karen replied. “Just speak slowly and clearly and you’ll be fine.”

It’s been a minute sense I’ve written anything so I guess take this idea that I’m kind of going with right now? If anyone wants more just say something, because I’m considering continuing this au I have an idea how to introduce Robin and Eddie.
When the apocalypse started Steve was barely twenty, at the prime of his youth. Waking up every morning to go on runs, go to his fathers firm and work a 9 to 5 and be back in time before a big game on the tv.
Before the apocalypse started Steve had perfect vision, perfect hearing and an overall exceptional life. The white picket fence American dream some would call it.
Now, in the middle of the apocalypse Steve has creaky bones, shitty hearing, and more gray hair then both his parents did combined. He was only twenty five and looked older then the oldest person in the group, who was in their mid thirties.
“Stop that,” Nancy taps in Morse code at the center of Steve’s wrist, that was connected to the hand that was nervously tugging at his hair. The gentle beating of his heart vibrating against her fingertips, a huge reminder that he was still alive.
“Stop what?” Steve whispers close to her ear, keeping as much of this as he could private. Eyes flickering over the heads around them to double check that no one was trying to eavesdrop.
“The hair thing.” Nancy taps easily into his wrist, still looking forward as they walk. Sending a friendly smile towards a guard when they look between the two of them. Not much light meeting her eyes as she does.
Steve holds back an annoyed puff of air, knowing exactly what she was talking about. He had this tendency to fidget with his hair when he got nervous, and this was a very nerve wracking time for all of them.
If they didn’t get to the assignment table quick enough then they were out of a job for the day. Which meant less ration cards. And with out ration cards they weren’t going to be able to eat, and Steve and Nancy had already pulled out the emergency ration cards they kept out off to the side for occasions like this.
This was their third F.E.D.R.A base this year alone. It seemed like the fireflies were picking each one off faster then they could even get up on their feet.
Steve immediately listens to Nancy and moves his wrist back down, not pulling away from the others gentle touch. Taking another step forward in the line as they send each other fleeting glances. This was their last hope, or else they would have to go live out on their own. And the people out in the wild were a lot scarier then the FEDRA guards.
The line slowly dwindles down to one person ahead of them. The second that person takes their assignment and moves around Steve nearly tackles the table from desperation. An equally desperate look on his face as he watches the guard carefully, who was now standing up and closing the job book. That, was not a good sign.
Steve’s heart drops to his gut as the woman gives him a slight shake of her head before she starts to walk away, along with the rest of the guards giving job assignments at the table.
“Fuck-” Steve hisses out, taking a step backwards so that he was longer leaning on the table. Tilting his head he makes eye contact with Nancy who looked just as desperate as him. Both of them glancing around, hearing sobs from tired people who needed the work.
Like the days before, they both sulkenly head back down the side walk. They still had tomorrow but no food.

HOH nancy is something deeply important to me. especially after the events of s4. i know her ass was not wearing earplugs. she fires roughly four shots out of that shotgun. there is NO WAY SHE’D BE ABLE TO HEAR AFTER THAT. guns are loud in the first place, but a shotgun WILL blow your hearing out.

He could see everyone else in states of disarray around the ambulances and police cars that surrounded them. Jonathan and Will were sitting in the back of an ambulance, looking anxious. Eleven was standing in the middle of the circle of vehicles, looking around anxiously.
Hopper and Joyce still hadn't returned. It was starting to scare him a little.
OR
hopper and joyce never returned from the russian base. what started as a joke of being babysitters thrust steve, robin, nancy and jonathan suddenly find themselves thrust into looking after all the kids as they navigate the grief from all the people lost.
it doesn't help that everything seems to be getting worse again, that the upside down may not be fully gone. it doesn't help that they can barely afford to look after anyone, let alone make sure the law doesn't get involved. it doesn't help that feelings between people in the group may be more complex than first thought.
but maybe, everything is going to be okay. maybe this year is their year, right?
chapter four: a series of snapshots

i love gay people in fandom proving their gay ships with just vibes like you'll see a bunch of gifs of a pair interacting and theyre just like "this is not heterosexual behavior" or they'll have screenshots of like a character just fuckin standing there and be like "they're just fruity idk what to tell ya". its like not even like evidence that can be proved it just pure unfiltered gaydar

What do you think of Hazel and Frank growing up and getting married and having three daughters named Emily, Marie, and Bianca <strike>and a son named Jason</strike>
Cute!!
I can definitely see Frank wanting to name his daughter after his Mom, and Emily is such a pretty name <3
Hazel's relationship with her Mom is more complicated, and I can't decide if that makes her more or less likely to name a daughter after her. I can see her picking her Mom's name as a middle name though! How do we feel about Emily Marie Zhang-Levesque? ;o
I don't think Hazel was close enough to Bianca to want to name a child after her tbh? I wrote about how I view their relationship in this fic, but the gist is that Hazel recognises that Bianca is technically her sister and mourns that she never got to know her, but views her as Nico's sister more than her own sister. I think out of respect for Nico and his relationship with Bianca, she probably wouldn't do that imo 🤷
And not to be a negative nancy because I know you're making a joke, but I don't see them naming a kid after Jason tbh. Out of everyone on the Argo II, I think they were probably the least close to Jason? Idk it seems like an odd choice to me 🤷
Here for a little Emily though <3
