I found some interesting biographical information about our friend Lieutenant Gabriel Bray, shown above painting his self-portrait in April 1775 with his watercolours kit, in what is probably the wardroom of HMS Pallas (NMM).
If you're not familiar with Gabriel Bray's wonderful art depicting the world of the late 18th century Royal Navy, you're in luck! His pictures are priceless primary sources.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A sailor fishing off of a gun, and two Royal Marines, both from the Pallas album.
Bray is one of the seafarers in Huw Lewis-Jones' book The Sea Journal: Seafarers' Sketchbooks, which provides more information about his life than the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich:
The son of a mariner, Gabriel Bray joined the navy at fifteen as a captain's servant. In the first six years of his sea career he served on six different ships and managed to pass his lieutenant exams in 1770, but no ships were available for a posting. His lucky break came in 1773, when assisting on the royal yacht Augusta at the fleet review in Spithead. He secretly sketched the scene and, having sat up all night to finish the painting, then managed to have it presented to King George III the following day; the king apparently liked it so much he promoted Bray on the spot.
As a keen artist, Bray made numerous watercolours on his voyages to West Africa and Jamaica when lieutenant on the frigate Pallas. His commander was Sir William Cornwallis, later the well-known admiral 'Billy Blue', a friend of Nelson and commander of the Channel Fleet during the war with France. Lacking the right family connections, Bray never advanced beyond the rank of lieutenant, so settled instead for commands of the revenue cutters Sprightly, Enterprise, Nimble, and Scourge, defending the English coast against smugglers. [...] On one notable occassion it is said he even fought off a Frenchman wielding a blunderbuss. After all this drama, he spent his final years in Dorset, a happy churchwarden.

So a while ago Jorge talked about scrapped ideas for epic and one of them was Telemachus and Athena going to the lotus eater Island and um! Oops AU spawned!
Basically after killing Pallas, Athena runs away and stumbles upon the lotus eater island, unaware of what the fruit does, she eats some out of curiosity and well, the lotus fruit does what it does and Athena stays there for centuries and the world slowly forgets about the goddess of wisdom and none of the other gods really bothered looking for her after she killed Pallas
Que many years later, Odysseus and Polites finding her when they visit the island and upon seeing a human there (as I’m going off of Epic’s depictions of the lotus eaters being little creatures) polites is like, “hm no we can’t leave her here!” And so they take her with them and it takes a while (not as long as it would for humans bc god powers) she sobers up from the lotus fruit! Yippee! Probably is….who was she again? She spent so long on that island with the lotus eaters she….doesn’t quite remember anything about her time before the island she can’t even remember her name….she thinks it was Pallas though…she does remember that name as it felt important to her! So she dubs herself with the name Pallas! She also can’t remember that she’s a goddess, she had no need to use her god powers well on the island so….she just forgot about it like she did her name
Also in this AU Ares is ody’s mentor instead of Athena :D
Guys wake up we've got a new AU!!!
I love the drama this is certain to bring when it comes out who she is. Like, Ares has a sister? Another one? He'll be so protective of her idndbdjdb
Ahhh I love this sm
Also imagine how high tech the lotus eater island is and Athena doesn't remember she just casually did this stuff (the lotus eaters are very well-dressed too) bc the lotus just messes with her brain in strange ways.
Oh also imagine she remembers her Mom first but doesn't remember she's dead 😭 Or she ends up being convinced her father must have been connected to water, so when the god thing comes out she guesses it's Poseidon and Ares is like fuck bc he took on the family drama with Poseidon (he won the fight on Sparta but Poseidon has Athens)
The drama
Oh and with the cyclops imagine she has a spear close by she could save herself with but she freezes up and doesn't take it cos trauma
But as soon as she has a sword in her hand she's a great fighter purely on instinct. (She can save Polites if we wanna be wholesome about it)
Ok lol that's my contribution hehe

"She has a similar personality to another person"
Hm.
I'm guessing either Pallas or Metis.
And I'm not sure which would end blowing up the most.
(No clue why those are my guesses (probably vibes, honestly), and I know I'm probably wrong, but...)
😂👀 one thing for sure, she was born to traumatise gods

Battle of Flamborough Head
The Battle of Flamborough Head (23 September 1779) was one of the most famous naval engagements of the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783). Fought off the coast of Yorkshire, England, it pitted the USS Bonhomme Richard, commanded by John Paul Jones, against a Royal Navy frigate, HMS Serapis. The engagement was an important victory for the burgeoning Continental Navy.
The Expedition Sets Sail
On 14 August 1779, a small fleet of seven vessels set sail from the port of Groix, France, with the intention of wreaking as much havoc as possible in the British Isles. The Kingdom of France had officially entered the American Revolutionary War the year before as an ally of the fledgling United States and had since provided the Americans with military and financial aid. The French had outfitted the ships for the expedition including the flagship, a 42-gun converted merchant vessel called the Duc de Duras, which was gifted to the United States. The makeshift fleet was under the overall command of Captain John Paul Jones, a Scottish-born officer of the Continental Navy, who had recently won international fame for his daring raid on the English port town of Whitehaven in April 1778.
Prior to sailing, Jones renamed the Duc de Duras to the USS Bonhomme Richard; this was in honor of his friend, Benjamin Franklin, whose celebrated Poor Richard's Almanac was translated into French as Les Maximes du Bonhomme Richard. The other ships under his command included the 36-gun frigate USS Alliance, the 32-gun frigate USS Pallas, the 12-gun corvette USS Vengeance, and the cutter Le Cerf, as well as two privateering vessels, the Monsieur and the Granville. Since the ships were setting sail from France, they were mainly crewed by French sailors (except for the Bonhomme Richard itself) and were captained by French naval officers. After raising anchor on 14 August, the fleet sailed toward the southern coast of Ireland.
Trouble beset the expedition almost immediately. On 18 August, they recaptured a Dutch vessel that had previously been taken by a British privateer. The captain of the Monsieur raided the cargo hold of the captured vessel, taking what he pleased before selecting a prize crew to sail it back to Belgium for sale. Jones overrode these orders, however, putting his own prize crew in place and sending it back to France to be sold in his own name. This enraged the captain of the Monsieur, who felt entitled to the prize. That night, the Monsieur abandoned the fleet with the other privateer, Granville, leaving not long after. Jones was hardly surprised by the disloyalty of the privateers but would soon be faced with more discontent from within his ranks. The aristocratic French naval officers under his command despised taking orders from a provincial, Scottish-born American and were not afraid to show their displeasure; Pierre Landais, captain of USS Alliance, was the most outspoken of this group, flatly telling Jones that he intended to sail Alliance as he saw fit.
After the departure of the privateers, Jones' remaining five ships sailed up around the southwest of Ireland before heading north. In late August, Jones sent Le Cerf to reconnoiter the Irish coast, but the cutter soon became lost; after failing to find its way back to the fleet, Le Cerf turned around and sailed back to France. Jones, meanwhile, continued northward with his remaining ships, sailing along the coast of Scotland. Despite the expedition's rocky start, it finally began to prove profitable, as the Franco-Americans took several British merchant vessels as prizes along the Scottish coast. On 3 September, Jones' fleet rounded the Orkney Islands and turned south. He put a landing party ashore at Leith, the seaport of Edinburgh, with instructions to threaten to burn the port unless the residents paid a large ransom. But before the threat could even be made, a strong gale blew Jones' ships away from the bay, forcing him to call off the raid. Nevertheless, the sight of Jones' fleet off the coast of Scotland was enough to cause panic and alarm throughout Great Britain.

The Painted Hall, Greenwich
Tumblr media
During the king’s coronation I visited Greenwich's "Painted Hall." This series of rooms depict scenes relating to the success of British Protestantism and the beginning of burgeoning imperial expansion. Following the vital English naval victory over France at La Hougue in 1692, Queen Mary ordered that a hospital be built for retired seamen, in keeping with the existing hospital for former soldiers at Chelsea. While Mary died before its completion her husband, William III, saw the projected through. Sir Christopher Wren (of St Paul’s fame) and his assistant, Nicholas Hawksmoor, designed a grand series of buildings at Greenwich, in London. The Royal Hospital at Greenwich acted as a retirement home for sailors between the 1700s and late 1900s. And at its heart is the Painted Hall, a series of rooms where a relatively unknown artist, James Thornhill, was commissioned to paint scenes of British-Protestant triumph.
Tumblr media
At the centre is King William III and Queen Mary shown overseeing ‘The Triumph of Peace and Liberty over Tyranny.’ Immediately above the couple and to their left is the allegorical figure of Prudence holding a mirror, one of the four Cardinal Virtues.
Tumblr media
To her right are Providence and Concord, while to her left is Justice. Beneath Justice is a woman representing Europe, who is accepting the ‘cap of liberty,’ the ancient red Phrygian cap, from William, who in turn is accepting an olive branch from ‘Peace.’
Tumblr media
Beneath William’s foot is the defeated Louis XIV of France with a broken sword, and a tumbling, discarded papal crown. Beneath them the ‘Spirit of Architecture’ along with Truth and Time are overseeing plans showing the actual construction of the hospital.
Above it all, Apollo rides his chariot, while the signs of the zodiac are arrayed around the edges. At the bottom, Pallas Athena and Hercules crush the Hydra and the Gorgon, ‘expelling the Vices from the Kingdom of William and Mary.’
Tumblr media
Another section of the ceiling shows a captured Spanish galley laden with the spoils of war, a reference to the British capture of Gibraltar in 1704. Diana, Goddess of the moon, passes mastery of the tides over to British sailors. Beneath them are representations of the English rivers Avon, Severn and Humber.
To the left and the right, scientific advancement is celebrated by the presence of astronomers Tycho Brahe, John Flamsteed, Copernicus and Newton’s ‘Principia.’ The gods Neptune and Cybele oversee it all.
Tumblr media
The next section of the ceiling shows HMS Blenheim being filled with the spoils of war by the winged figure of Victory. Beneath are more river representations along with the City of London and figures representing navigation and astronomy. On the left is Galileo, while Zeus and Juno watch from above.
Tumblr media
The painted hall took decades to complete, and saw further dynastic change, as George I, originally of Hanover, became king after William III’s successor, Queen Anne, died. George maintained the Protestant ascendancy, as portrayed in the upper hall chamber adjoining the main hall.
Here we see George I, his wife Sophia of Hanover and their children and grandchildren beneath St Paul’s, overseen the a figure representing “the Golden Age” with overflowing cornucopia. The artist, James Thornhill, added himself on the right. Over them is an inscription quoting Virgil's Eclogues, which translates as ‘a new generation has descended from the heavens.’
Tumblr media
On the left of the upper hall is a depiction of William III’s arrival in England at the start of the Glorious Revolution in 1688, while George I is shown arriving on the opposite side of the hall (rather unrealistically in a chariot) in 1714.

Pallas, have you made any friends in Ithaca? And is it beautiful?
Ithaca is a wonderful place.. I do suggest you visit if you are thinking of it. The beaches are lovely.. Oh, and I suppose the prince counts as my friend. Though there is a lovely blacksmith in the kingdom who has fitted my weapons for my needs, they are good company. I would call him a friend as well. And this lady who often walks with me on my way to the markets.. And.. Hm.. I suppose I've made quite a few friends.

Catboy Jinwoo enthusiast anon again
If... Jinwoo is a black panther, like a black jaguar since any leopard (big cats including lions) can be black panters... Choi Jong-in is a caracal maybe?
Is Woo Jin-chul a serval?
If Jinwoo is a black panther he could be a black lion? Lions are lazy when in their prides, however simply a black lion seems a bit too basic for our beloved monarch so jaguar! Jaguars are also solitary while lions hunt in prides so it fits I think :3
Yoo Jinho is an orange cat no doubt. Well, he also could be a rusty spotted cat. Hehe~
Curious how you spell Jong-in and hae-in with a dash however write Jinwoo without one?
Everyone's a cat boy, cats come in many different sizes and shapes, from rusty spotted cats, sand cats, pallas cats, servals, caracals, snow leopards, lynx, to jaguars and tigers and of course house cats! So why not cat boys hm?
By the way a Jaguar's bite force is enough to pierce shells of tortoises. Jaguars are badass! They are strong and could debone someone like a trout! But a big cat is still a cat.
Not exactly wobbly tummy kittie but more like a danger kitty that is 130-200lbs of pure muscle with a hunting strategy which involves sinking it's fangs into your skull.
Jaguars have the strongest bite force of any cat.
I think Jinho is a silly calico kitty for some reason. I'm dead set on Jong-in being a hairless kitty cat xDD!!! With lions idt it suits Jinwoo at all because altho our boy is prideful in some level he is mostly humble and meek, he's very discreet and lions ar pretty social animals so I think Jinwoo is more of a cyute jaguar since although they are pretty social animals, they spend their time mostly alone!!!! I think the perfect lion would be Choi Jong-in (I still want him a hairless sphinx cat okay)

Action off Belfast, 1760 (detail) , by John John Bentham-Dinsdale (1927-2008)
In February 1760, three ships under the command of the French privateer François Thurot landed a French force at the Irish town of Carrickfergus, about 11 miles from Belfast.
After being repelled by Irish militiamen after a few days, the Blonde, the Terpsichore, and the Maréchal de Belle-Isle were confronted by a Royal Navy squadron consisting of the HMS Aeolus, the HMS Pallas, and the HMS Brilliant. In the middle of the Irish Sea, between the Isle of Man and the Northern Irish coast, the French privateers and British sailors fought throughout the morning of 28 February 1760.
Thurot died in the battle, and the British captured all three ships. After transferring the French prisoners to Belfast, Thurot was buried with full honors in southern Scotland, while the Royal Navy later purchased both the Blonde and the Terpsichore.

September 23rd 1779 saw the Battle of Flamborough Head.
Sailing from France in August 1779 with a small squadron, noted Scots born American naval commander Commodore John Paul Jones sought to circle the British Isles with the goal of wreaking havoc on British merchant shipping. In late September, Jones' ships encountered a British convoy in the vicinity of Flamborough Head off the east coast of England. Attacking, the Americans succeeded in capturing two British warships, the frigate HMS Serapis and the sloop-of-war HMS Countess of Scarborough, after a protracted and bitter fight. Though the battle ultimately cost Jones his flagship, Bonhomme Richard.
During the battle using its greater maneuverability and heavier guns, Serapis raked and pounded Jones' ship. With Bonhomme Richard becoming increasingly unresponsive to its helm, Jones realized his only hope was to board Serapis. Maneuvering closer to the British ship, he found his moment when Serapis' jib-boom became entangled the rigging of Bonhomme Richard's mizzen mast. As the two ships came together, the crew of Bonhomme Richard quickly bound the vessels together with grappling hooks.
The ships continued firing into each other as both side's marines sniped at opposing crew and officers. An American attempt to board Serapis was repulsed, as was a British attempt to take Bonhomme Richard.a Royal Navy ship, Alliance tried to come to the aid of Serapis. Believing the frigate's arrival would turn the tide, Jones was shocked when it began indiscriminately firing into both ships.
Moving along the two ships' yardarms, the American crew were able to cross over to Serapis. From their new position aboard the British ship, they were able to drive Serapis' crew from their stations using hand grenades and musket fire. With his men falling back,The Serapis captain, Pearson, was forced to finally surrender his ship to Jones. Across the water, another US ship, Pallas succeeded in taking Countess of Scarborough after a prolonged fight.
During the battle, Jones was famously reputed to have exclaimed "I have not yet begun to fight!" in response to Pearson's demand that he surrender his ship.
One of the greatest prizes taken by the Continental Navy, Serapis was soon transferred to the French for political reasons. The battle proved a major embarrassment for the Royal Navy and cemented Jones' place in American naval history.
There is a much more detailed account of the battle here https://www.sailsofglory.org/showthread.php...

cw: piss (duh)
...
Lena had known for a while that the greenery of the convalescent garden harbored an admirer from time to time. Sometimes she'd peer over her shoulder for something she'd forgotten and catch sight of the familiar pastel pink plumage that crowned the head of one with a fervent gaze.
Just as soon as she'd notice, however, she'd alight like a fearful canary and dip through the leaves.
"Pallas," Lena remarks to her near-asleep partner, fluttering her fingers through her bangs. "She's here again." With a bemused chuckle, she adds, "Looking a little afraid of the fox in the hen house, as it were."
"'Tis not fear that stays her hand, my lady, but thine ephemeral expression of care for the flowers, surely."
"Alright. Even if that's true...shouldn't she introduce herself properly? You're close, aren't you?"
"Verily, indeed. Alas, if only she could hold her liquor a little better-"
"And...she knows I'm alright with everything, right?"
"Most assuredly. The nature of our relationship, I took great care explaining. She knows she is welcomed. I simply thought it uncouth to goad her were she not amenable."
"Of course. Hm. Suppose you let her know we could speak, all of us together? Do you think she'd feel more at ease...beside a friend she knows well?"
"I shall make a correspondence with her posthaste. After, that is-my mid-morning rest."
"Fine. Rest well then."
Pallas laid down back where she had been sunning herself and spoke out the side of her mouth.
"...If you so feel any urges again-"
Lena giggled heartily, voice light as wind chimes, "Pallas, please. It's no fun if I tell you exactly when I'll do it again!"
They shared a laugh, and Lena went back to tending her flowers.
...
"I understand you wanted to talk to me?" Erato was speaking clearly, confidently, but Lena could see the tension in her shoulders.
"Mmhm, but perhaps I could say the same to you. I've seen you around the garden so often, and sensed your eyes on me more times than that." Lena props her backside against her desk, arms folded, one ankle crossed elegantly over the other. "I have an idea...what's on your mind." She sent a sidelong glance to Pallas with a gentle smile, "But I think I'd really like to just hear it from you."
"Lena..." Erato swallowed, "It's just that. For all the words that oft flow so easily from me, I can't find what to say when I'm before you. I can't describe you for the life of me, because what words I find aren't enough. But-" Erato's fingers trail the fabric edge hugging her chest, stroking towards her heart. "-I haven't courage enough to express myself another way."
"Hmm, I see. I think I understand." Lena sits herself on the edge of the desk fully. She does not miss the subtle part of Erato's mouth as she languidly crosses one leg clear over the other, but she only smiles fondly. "Would you be seeking some inspiration? Maybe you could both, come over here and kneel?" Lena draws a finger to her lips, "So I can tell you what good girls you are."
...
Lena's office becomes a haven for the three of them, at which she sits center as its goddess. Truthfully, she doesn't have such grandiose ideas of herself, but with Pallas and Erato repeating it in such earnest as they touch each other, touch her, from between her legs, she could stand to believe it.
If she could stand at all. They really are so naturally lyrical as they sing her praises, press kisses against her legs and thighs, and it's not long before Lena is ripping her own tights open to let Erato's silver tongue slide deep against her.
"Nnh-" Her legs flex, over Pallas' shoulder, around Erato's waist, and her head is going blank with disbelief that she gets to share so much affection with both of them at once. She's felt the yearning fill her stomach like the pit of an overripe peach for so long, and she knows it's been longer for Erato, and knows that her and Pallas have so much love to share.
Erato does something clever with her tongue and Lena gasps, arching and curling her fingers into her hair, and as she loses her balance Pallas is there with a hand at her back, so chivalrous to a fault, ready to keep her upright.
Lena is so close. She feels a sudden unbearable urge behind her cunt at the sight of Erato framed between her legs, and she grabs for her face, draws her up-
"Erato-"
She doesn't have to say another word. Erato pliantly tips her head back for the long, wet kiss that follows, bracing her hands on Lena's inner thighs to sit upright between her legs-
Lena cups the back of her neck and rocks herself forward, hands slipping, anchoring on Erato's shoulders to keep her breasts right against her cunt as they kiss, as the pressure mounts inside.
Such a pretty bird. Such a full, soft body.
"Aaahn-Lenaaa-" Erato pants into her mouth.
"Stay-stay like this-I want, I want to-" Lena murmurs desperately, and Erato presses tight and close, the front of her dress slipping down, the shape of her body plumping up against her-
With a poorly-contained cry, Lena is cumming, and some primordial part of her id releases everything at once.
She pisses all over Erato's breasts, the hot liquid soaking the delicate fabric until it clings to her body. Erato is cupping herself so closely against Lena that it pools in her modest cleavage for a few moments before dripping down, drenching the fabric clear to her navel.
Mine, she thinks, mine, mine, mine.
In a daze, she registers movement from between her legs, of both Pallas and Erato rising to their feet, the former taking her hand to help her dismount the desk.
They're all absolutely filthy, one way or another.
"Might I suggest-" Pallas gingerly wipes her mouth, then gestures towards the herbal spas, "-a wholesome group-bath?"
"Y-Yes. I think that's in order." Lena agrees, casting a glance in Erato's direction. Now she understands what it's like to be speechless, to worry about what to say or how to say it-
But Erato simply grins wide.
"Absolutely."
...
The three of them soak in the huge bath. Dried herbs and flowers perfume the water, and Lena sits with a slumbering head on each shoulder.
She thinks to herself that perhaps, when they do it again, she won't let them wash off so quickly.

Do you have any Epic prompts? I wanna write but dont have the inspo or ideas.
hm
idk if it qualifies as a prompt but I have some ideas kinda?
I had this idea that someone could use Chronos' (the time guy, not the child-eater) powers and bring Pallas from the past to the present (temporarily) So one of her siblings just brings Athena childhood trauma lmao ("Thena, I was just trying to help you!") (Maybe they find Athena on Ithaca so Pallas can meet the fam before Athena has her breakdown lol)
I also had an idea that after God Games, Athena is in the infirmary but she's so worried that she can't rest, and so Apollo brings Ody to visit and talk it out so his sister will fucking stay and bed and heal.
What I also find super interesting to think about is how Athena first meets one of her siblings, like how she reacts to them and how they perceive her. (After Pallas for extra angst ofc, depends on your birth-order a bit)
idk maybe that helps a little?
