Tactics to Learn
They’ve tried to extinguish tear gas canisters with water bottles. Using traffic cones and metal bowls to snuff out the gas before it spreads.
On the front lines many demonstrators wear makeshift armor. Saran wrap becomes skin protection. While garbage can lids and luggage are made into Shields.
The near weekly protests have also stood out for their meticulous organization.
Videos show protesters forming human supply chains, some over one mile long.
And to communicate what they need, they use hand signals passed along the chain.
In this video, protesters are asking for helmets.
Several videos show how the massive crowds part to allow ambulances free passage.
For the most part, the protests are organized anonymously.
Posters with information about marches are shared through airdrop and telegram chats.
Protesters have adopted a strategy they are calling B water in order to evade the police.
It means that they move quickly rather than occupying a single location.
You can see that in this video. A large group of protesters entering a train station so they can travel to another area.
And here, riot police have just arrived to disperse a crowd that has already left.
Anti-government demonstrators, most wearing masks, have also established new ways to hide their identities. Laser pointers and spray paint are used to obscure security cameras.
And some people use single use transit tickets at train stations so that protesters don’t have to use the card registered to their name.

faye's note guys, honestly, i struggle writing soft and fluffy scenes. I just found out lmao 😭 anyway, Hyuka definitely suits soft sex 😋 our pretty boy!
"Kai, I miss you already," you pout, looking at your boyfriend through the screen of your laptop. He chuckled heartily, hugging the plushie in his arms tight.
"I miss you more, little penguin," he smiled. "I'm sorry I'm not there, we haven't finished our tour yet," he added with a sigh, placing his chin on the plushie he was hugging.
"I understand, please take care of yourself, okay? I don't want you to lose weight," you smiled.
"Yes ma'am!" Your laugh resonates within the four walls of your room when he salutes. He looks so silly. He's cute and adorable.
"I'll get going, don't forget to eat your dinner, okay?" You hummed as an answer, waving and waiting for Kai to drop the call.
You sighed, closing your laptop with a heavy heart. It feels like it's been ages since you last hung out with your boyfriend. He's too busy with their world tour. Traveling from one place to another and moving again the next couple of days.
You can't protest though, knowing that your boyfriend loves his job and he's enjoying every moment of it. So you have nothing else to do but wait for him. Besides, he always keeps his promises, no matter what.
So when you saw the news on the TV that they already landed, you quickly sent him a message to just rest for now and just drop by the next few days.
You were getting a bit worried because it's been 4 hours, yet he hasn't replied to your message. It's already 10 o'clock in the evening, and he would normally text you back whenever you sent him one.
While you were pacing back and forth in front of your couch, your phone rang. You quickly answered the call, thinking that something happened to Kai.
"Y/n-"
"Kai! Kai, oh my god!"
"Hey, are you okay?" he answered, his voice hinting with worry. Your knees felt wobbly and weak, so you plopped down on your couch to at least relax a bit.
"I was so worried, I thought something happened to you!" you exclaimed, tears threatening to fall from your eyes.
"Hey, I'm sorry for not texting you back. I won't do it again, I just thought you wouldn't be this worried about me," he tried to explain.
"How can I not be worried? God knows how worried I was!"
"I'm sorry, can I come over? I'll make it up to you," he said, attempting to coax you.
You sighed, worried that he might still be jet lagged. "Rest for now, Kai. You can drop by tomorrow, okay?"
You heard a heavy sigh from the other line, and you could even picture his pouty face. "Come on now, there's still tomorrow," you cheered him up.
"Fine, fine. Don't let just anyone in, okay?"
You nodded and hummed as an answer, as if he could see you. With another big sigh, you felt relieved. At least you knew he was okay.
Just when you were about to sleep, someone rings your doorbell. "Who in the world!" you exclaimed, throwing your blanket off of you. Because who could be ringing your doorbell in the middle of the night?!
"I swear if this is some type of prank—Kai?" Your boiling blood quickly calmed down after seeing your boyfriend in front of your apartment.
"Hi," Kai said with a little wave of his hand, smiling from ear to ear.
"What are you doing here? I thought I already told you to rest." You sighed, your eyes teary from how overwhelmed you are as you pulled him closer, hugging him tight and sobbing into his chest.
"Hush now, stop crying. Let's go inside, shall we?" he said while gently caressing your back.
You couldn't help but cling to him, as the both of you eventually made your way to the living room. He himself couldn't stop telling you how he missed you. With you leaning your head on his chest while sitting on his lap, he started telling you how the tour went. From how his two hyungs forced him along with Taehyun and Beomgyu to dance their unit song 'The Killa', to him deciding to play a little on their 'Growing Pain' song out of boredom.
You could also feel how your lips were about to be torn because of how you laughed non-stop from his funny stories from their tour.
Little did you know, how he loves it when you laugh and smile genuinely. He loves the fluttering feeling in his heart.
"Oh! I remembered something! Me and Soobin hyung played during our break from tours. Do you wanna try? I brought the controllers," he suggested.
Your curious little mind can't help but want to try what he was suggesting. So you nodded and planted a kiss on the tip of his beautiful nose.
"Of course! How dare I say no to your request?" you giggled.
You grabbed his hand and made your way to your bedroom. Settling deep into your bed, Kai booted up the game, story telling continued—he's still not done with it.
While the two of you enjoyed playing in the dead of night, Kai couldn't help but notice your hair tied up into a ponytail, exposing your beautiful neck. He tried gulping down the feeling, but he just couldn't push it back—your neck totally enticed him.
The occasional bite of his lip and the way he looks at you didn't escape your line of sight. Until the electricity in the room shifted, an undercurrent of something deeper simmered between the two of you. As your characters danced across the screen, your real-life selves drew closer.
In a moment of spontaneity, you leaned in, brushing your lips gently against Kai’s. The kiss was soft at first, almost hesitant, but it ignited a warmth that spread through the both of you—controllers tossed and the video game characters now stuck.
The atmosphere quickly transformed. Walls that separated two worlds crumbled as you explored each other with the same curiosity and excitement the way you navigated through video game quests. The kiss deepened, fingers intertwining and bodies instinctively moving closer, wrapped in an embrace that felt warm and fluffy, like the softest blankets.
In that moment, the boundaries became blurred as Kai put his hands against your skin, and every whispered thought led to more tenderness. The laughter you shared now mixed with soft gasps, and the room filled with an energy only the two of you could understand.
"Sorry, I just... Fuck, I just missed you," Ka murmured with a smile. His thumb drawing small circles on your waist. You cradled his face, not bothering to answer him as you planted a wet kiss to his lips. Kai slightly opened his mouth, letting his tongue swirl around yours.
"Kai, please," you mumbled.
Kai turned you around, pulling you closer to his chest just between his legs as he locks his arm around your waist, his other hand gently rubbing the skin of your thighs.
"You still smell so sweet," he muttered, planting a kiss on your neck that has been attracting him ever since you two started playing.
"I hope I can bring you on tours, I need you to take care of me," he pouts, his mouth still working wonders on your exposed neck, blossoming marks littered around. His fingers slowly dipped closer to your inner thighs, pushing your soft sleep shorts to the side. Kai ran his middle finger on your clothed pussy, feeling the wet cloth clinging onto your folds.
With a single buck of your hips, he slips his hand inside your underwear, slowly pushing his ring finger in. Your gasp made him chuckle, twisting his finger inside you.
"K-kai... N-need more..." you pleaded, looking up at him, the rising and falling of his broad chest making you feel more aroused. You whined when he withdrew his finger, placing it on your lips as he whispered, "Sshhh."
You shook your head as you plead again, wanting to feel more, desperate to cum. "Kai, need you," you slurred.
"Give me a minute." A wide grin grew on his lips as he grabbed his phone, a bright idea popping into his mind. He opened his music app, clicking on one of their most recent songs. He turned the volume down, enough for just the two of you to hear. His fingers returning to your wet folds as the rhythm of the song rings in your ear—it was The Killa.
Your sobs became louder as he pushed his middle finger inside again, twisting and curling to tease you. "K-kai!" You couldn't help but yelp when he slips his middle finger in, carefully fucking you with his digits, their song still softly playing in the background—the clips you saw about Kai dancing to it flashed on your mind.
As your abdomen tightened, his mouth played with your earlobe, occasionally licking, biting, and sucking it."G-gonna cum, please..." You hold his hand, guiding him to move faster and let yourself cum on his fingers. Your back arched against his chest, hands clutching on the sheets as your orgasm washed over you.
Your ragged breathing made Kai smile. "Are you okay?" he asked, kissing your temple while his fingers still move slowly inside you to let you ride out your high. You looked up to him, tilting your head, trying to reach for his lip. Which he responded by lowering his head down to give you a kiss.
"Need to feel you, Kai. I missed this," you muttered, your breathing uneven.
"You don't need to ask, I missed this just as much as you do."
You quickly got out of bed to take a quick run to the bathroom, scavenging your small cabinet to find the half-used box of condoms you kept around for him to use whenever the two of you wanted to have your alone time.
Kai was already removing his jacket when you returned to your bedroom, showing his now buff build.
"You've been working out, right?" You smiled, tossing the box on the bed as your hand found its way to Kai's chest.
"Mhm. I want my girl to have something to brag about his boyfriend, at least," he chuckled as he pulled your face to kiss your cheek. You couldn't help but giggle at his actions. He was really sweet and nice towards you. You couldn't ask for more.
Kai tapped the space beside him as he lay down, getting the two of you in the spooning position, one of his arms resting under your head. He pulled his sweats down, just enough for him to free his throbbing cock, giving you a single condom packet, quietly asking you to open it for him. He pumped his cock a few times before he heard a ripping sound coming from the foil material as you passed him the thin piece of rubber.
His hand pulled your sleep shorts down as his hand that was resting under your head wrapped around your shoulder, pulling you flush to his chest.
"I love you, y/n," he whispered, kissing your ear.
"I love you too, Kai." Your giggle didn't last long and eventually turned into a soft moan when he slowly pushed inside you as he held your waist.
"This is the only reason I love when I am away from you for a couple of months. You get so tight," he moaned just right behind your ear. His words spurred you more.
His hand slowly unbuttoned your sleepwear, exposing your tits. Your breast perfectly fits his hand as he gently massages it while he starts thrusting inside.
"So tight, love, so tight. Fuck, I could barely move," he groans. You tried to answer, but moans and whimpers are the only thing that came out of your pretty mouth.
"Mmphh!" You whined when Kai pushed a little deeper inside you. You could feel how thick his cock was, how veiny and hard it was. "I need you like this on tour. Whenever I feel too tired, I just need you," he whispered, eyes tightly shut as he kept on thrusting inside you.
Your hand reaches back, tangling your fingers on his hair, spurring him further. His name is coming out of your mouth like a chant. Kai was sure he wouldn't last long when he buried his face on your nape, trying to hold back his moan.
He wasn't expecting you to press your hips towards him, and it only made him reach his orgasm faster. His hips stutter as he stilled inside you, strings of loud moans and whimpers came out of his throat. Kai was reeling when you clenched around him cumming on his cock, and he silently wished that you let him hit you raw instead.
Kai pulls away, his body sweaty and sticky, as he discards the condom in the bin next to your bed. He scoots closer to you as he turns you around and lets you lay your head on his chest.
"That was hot. Vanilla but hot," he chuckled, his chest harshly rising and falling.
"Thank you for dropping by," you giggled as you hugged his waist.
His fingers combed through your hair as the two of you slowly drifted to sleep—their song still on repeat, softly playing in the background, mixing with the soft snores coming from the two of you.

PART 2 OF 2
“Good. You’re in one piece.”
“‘Scuse me?” Leo asked, bewildered. He looked back towards the darkness he’d come from, but it was gone. There was only vast nothingness around them, a grayish white that stretched on for eternity.
“I’m Atlas,” the turtle greeted, holding out a hand. “You must be Leonardo.”
“Yes
?” Leo slowly took his hand and shook it. “I don’t know what’s going on, but I need to get back–”
“You can’t,” Atlas said simply. His expression softened, sympathetic. “I know you want to, but there is no leaving this place.”
“Did
” Leo swallowed. “Did the goop get you too?”
“No.” Atlas shook his head. “I came here through other means.”
“Then how did I get here? What happened?” He turned again, searching. “Where is here?”
“You were absorbed physically and spiritually,” Atlas explained. “The ‘goop’ then used that energy to break free of its prison.”
Leo winced. “We have to stop it, I have to stop–”
Before Leo could continue, Atlas waved a hand. Pale gray streaks of light flickered through the air as he did, and a mirror rose out of the ground like an archway. Leo stumbled back in surprise.
“What–?”
He was interrupted once again by Atlas touching the mirror. The image in it shifted, showing a shrine. Leo recognized his brothers’ masks, his scarf that Sprout had given him.
Leo got another shock when he saw Sprout walk into the room and settle there in front of the shrine.
“Sprout?” Leo asked out loud, stepping closer.
“He can’t hear you,” Atlas said gently. “Think of it like a television screen.”
“He’s so much older
” Leo whispered, tears welling up in his eyes. “What did I do
?”
“I’ll let him explain it,” Atlas murmured.
So Sprout did, and as he did, the mirror showed Leo the memories. Sprout spoke to Leo about the goop spreading, about after Raph they lost Splinter, and Draxum, and April, and Casey, and Casey Junior, and finally Donatello. He told Leo about Mikey’s deteriorating mental health and the final attack on the bunker.
Leo sank to his knees as it all happened, tears streaming down his face, soaking through his mask. He broke into sobs.
“It’s my fault,” he cried. “I-I– hk–”
Atlas moved to sit beside him, putting a hand on his shoulder. “You should keep watching,” Atlas said gently.
Leo wiped at his tears, breath shaking in his chest. Did he even need to breathe anymore?
Sprout was pushed through Mikey’s portal. He fell through, tumbling into a familiar sight. A tiny Leonardo, right arm gone, a freshly bleeding wound in its place. Unlike Leo, Sprout didn’t hesitate. He lunged for the little version of themselves, wrapping him up, falling through yet another Mikey’s portal.
Leo wept.
Sprout was shouting orders. He knew what he was doing because this was what Leo had done for him. He had the mind to cauterize the wound.
That was so smart, Sprout, Leo wanted to tell him. Look at you. You didn’t even think you could lead, and now here you are. Saving us.
Atlas touched the mirror again. Leo looked at him, wiping away his tears as quickly as he could. Atlas pulled a cloth from thin air and loosened Leo’s mask gently, letting it fall around his neck before patting his cheeks dry. Leo felt oddly like a little kid again, getting his face cleaned like this.
“You can help him,” Atlas told Leo softly.
“What?” Leo asked weakly. “Everything I did– I told him this wouldn’t happen again! I doomed him! I failed to protect him! How am I supposed to help?!”
Atlas cupped his face, and Leo sputtered to a stop, confused.
“He is alive, isn’t he?” Atlas asked. “He may be repeating your circumstances, but he’s learned from your mistakes. You taught him everything he needs to know to make everything right. He knows all the feelings he felt and he knows now how to help himself, because of you.”
“But the key–” Leo protested.
“He will know what to do,” Atlas insisted. He squished Leo’s cheeks and Leo blinked in surprise. “You guide him, even in your absence.”
Atlas released him and touched the mirror again. Leo looked into it, eyes widening as he saw Sprout once more, sitting alone in front of the shrine, slumped back, looking lost and exhausted.
“Put your hand here.” Atlas directed Leo’s hand to the center of the mirror. “And let yourself feel whatever you want to feel.”
Leo did as he was told, staring at Sprout as his voice was a whisper through the mirror.
“Is that how you felt when you first saw me?” Sprout asked. “Terror? Guilt? An urge to protect until the very end.”
Leo gritted his teeth. “Yes,” he whispered back, though Sprout couldn’t hear him. “Yes.”
“I’ll
try and protect him for as long as I can,” Sprout offered weakly. “I’ll protect them all, I am just
”
Leo wanted to hold his Pea Sprout. He wanted to pull him into a hug and apologize many times over for his mistakes. He wanted to curl around him and protect him from all the cruel things that had happened, to dry his tears, to tell him this time it would be okay, that Sprout would do better than Leo ever had.
He let all the agonizing want pour out, and he cried.
In another room, tiny Leo suddenly felt like he should check on his older counterpart. He got up and headed into Sprout’s room, caught him talking out loud to his shrine, to the people he’d lost.
“Scared,” Sprout breathed out.
Little Leo settled beside him without a word passed between them, and Sprout wrapped his arms around his shoulders, hugging him into his side. Leo swore he could feel the warmth in his own scales.
Leo’s hand fell from the mirror.
“You did well,” Atlas said gently, draping a blanket around his shoulders. “Now rest, breathe. You can find him again when he needs you.”
“What is this place?” Leo asked shakily as the mirror slipped away. He pulled the blanket around him closer.
“Ahh
” Atlas sat beside him, offering an uneasy smile. “Hell? Though now that you’re here, I doubt that.”
Leo stared at him, mortified, and Atlas rubbed the back of his neck.
“Okay, bad choice of words,” he muttered. “Have you ever heard of the multiverse theory?”
Heard of it? He’d lived it. Leo couldn’t help the disbelieving laugh that bubbled up from him.
“I know.” Atlas dismissed him with a hand wave. “Hear me out, though. Think of a universe as a pancake. The multiverse is a stack of them. Sometimes you can get through to the one next to you. Sometimes there’s a hole.”
He paused for a moment, just long enough for Leo to furrow his brow in concern.
“This is the plate,” Atlas said finally. He smiled slightly. “There’s no pancake on this level, it’s just
 the cradle.”
Leo clutched the blanket closer, pulling his knees up to his chest slowly.
“How did I end up here?” Leo whispered.
“That was my fault,” Atlas admitted. “I brought you here after you stopped existing. You didn’t just die, you were consumed entirely. Your energy was turned into something else, but there were still
pieces of you left. Your ghost.”
“Why did you bring me here? I don’t understand.”
Atlas’ eyes shifted away. “I can put you back,” he said, hushed.
“No, just–” Leo frowned. “Tell me.”
“Loneliness,” Atlas replied. He said the word like it might break him. “I fell
over and over again, through so many different universes and realities, until I finally reached the bottom. No way back up.”
“You can send me back, though?” Leo asked slowly.
“You’ll be nothing, just like you were before. This version of you is gone. This is the only place you can exist consciously now. So yes, I can send you back, but I will be ending you in the process.” Atlas’ eyes were distant. “Keep that in mind when you make your decision.”
Leo didn’t know how long Atlas had been alone. It didn’t seem like there was anybody else there. Slowly, he bumped his shoulder against Atlas’.
“I’ll stick around.” He smiled sadly. “I’ve got a sprout to watch grow.”
Atlas nodded slowly, leaning against Leo. Leo leaned back, and rested his head against Atlas’ shoulder. The mirror returned, and Leo watched Sprout use everything Leo had taught him and more to make things right again.

It’s also worth noting that the settlers’ Protestant theocracy did not work out because (shocker) there were unbelievers among them, and they quickly became embroiled in theological conundrums regarding the religious state and the unbelieving citizenry.
But the Framers did intend for America to be a religious nation with moral governance, not the “amoral/neutral” fantasy imagined by libertarians and humanists.

Hawk Moth but with good publicity thoughts but I agree, Mylene as Sabretooth is too fun to pass up actually.
Kind of imagining Fu manages to pull one of his actually tests of character with her at a protest of some description.
The specifics can't really occur to me, but given Andre is in the know I imagine he also has Gabriel orchestrate things to his and their other allies benefit at times, or do public announcements that suit him.
So maybe Hawk Moth endorses some "Environmental" plan, or some 'accident' happens at the zoo which HK solves, but his commentary sparked a lil backlash among committed animal lovers.
None of its enough to undermine his overall public profile, but it gives Fu somewhere to start poking around for another Holder and Mylene is the one who dropped the protest to help him. They chat and she explains why she thinks HK is perhaps not as trustworthy or righteous as he seems given some of the public figures he endorses.
Cue finding Roarr in her home later that day.
Oh hell yeah!!

Western leaders, the UN and rights groups have joined a chorus of criticism of Hong Kong's new security law, saying it further erodes freedoms.
Article 23, as it's known locally, was unanimously passed by the city's pro-Beijing parliament, targeting a range of offences deemed treasonous.
Officials say the law is essential for stability but opponents called it a "nail in the city's coffin".
China has long pushed for the law and said "smears" by critics would fail.
The new law allows for closed-door trials, gives the police rights to detain suspects for up to 16 days without charge and penalties including life sentences, among other things.
"The new national security legislation is going to double down the repression on freedoms in Hong Kong with extended egregious sentences and a broadened definition of national security," said Frances Hui, an activist now based in the US, who described the legislation as a "final nail in a closed coffin".
A group of 81 lawmakers and public figures from across the world, including in the UK, US, Canada and South Korea, issued a joint statement on Tuesday expressing "grave concerns" over the legislation, which expands on the National Security Law imposed by Beijing in 2020, and criminalises secession, subversion, terrorism and collusion with foreign forces.
"The legislation undermines due process and fair trial rights and violates Hong Kong's obligations under international human rights law, jeopardising Hong Kong's role as an open international city," the statement said, calling it yet another "devastating blow" for freedom.
What is Hong Kong's tough new security law?
Hong Kong's year under China's controversial law
The US said it was "alarmed" by the "sweeping and... vaguely-defined" provisions in the legislation, a concern echoed by the EU, which said the law could affect the city's status as a business centre.
Meanwhile, the UK's Foreign Secretary David Cameron said the law would "further damage rights and freedoms" and "entrench a culture of self-censorship" in the former British colony. Hongkongers have told the BBC how they are already being careful with what they say to friends and colleagues, fearing an "informant culture" has developed in the city.
Lord Cameron's comments sparked a strong response from the Chinese Embassy in the UK, which rubbished his remarks as "a serious distortion of the facts".
China's government also hit back at the criticisms of Article 23, saying it is "unswervingly determined to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, implement the 'one country, two systems' policy, and oppose any external interference in Hong Kong affairs".
"All attacks and smears will never succeed and are doomed to fail," foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian told a regular press conference in Beijing.
Hong Kong's leader John Lee had earlier also defended the law - which was fast-tracked through its final phase on Tuesday - saying the legislation would help the city "effectively prevent, suppress and punish espionage activities, conspiracies and traps from foreign intelligence agencies, and infiltration and sabotage by hostile forces".
"From now on, the people of Hong Kong will no longer experience these harms and sorrows," he added.
But those who led the pro-democracy protests against China's increasing influence on the city see the new law as yet another lost battle.
It brings Hong Kong "one step closer to the system of mainland China", former Hong Kong lawmaker Nathan Law, who is now in exile in the UK, told the BBC's Newsday programme.
"The chilling effect... and the result of a collapse of civil society is impacting most Hong Kong people."
Ms Hui said she is also concerned the law could also be used to target HongKongers overseas, or their families and friends back home. The city has previously offered bounties for information on activists who fled overseas, and arrested four people in Hong Kong for supporting people abroad who "endanger national security".
Ms Hui left Hong Kong in 2020 after Beijing imposed the NSL that has since seen more than 260 people arrested. It was introduced in response to massive pro-democracy protests which engulfed the city in 2019.
She said civil liberties in Hong Kong are "long gone" four years after the NSL took effect.
Chris Patten, Hong Kong's last British governor, described the legislation as "another large nail in the coffin of human rights and the rule of law in Hong Kong and a further disgraceful breach of the Joint Declaration".
Hong Kong was handed back by the UK to China in 1997 under the principle of "one country, two systems", which guaranteed the city a certain degree of autonomy. While Beijing and Hong Kong both insist this is still the case, critics and international rights groups say China's grip on the city has only tightened with time.

while we're talking about north korean defector industry being part of the [western - including south korean] media agenda to smear, vilify, and discredit the DPRK,, (particularly how specific defectors seriously make serious bank from selling these lies through books and media appearances, although, this is quite the exception and not the norm)
consider Operation Yellowbird. a short background:
Operation Yellowbird was a collaborative effort between British HK, MI6, CIA and other actors to smuggle persons wanted for their dissident actions during the 1989 protests in Beijing.
known CIA regime change agents were spotted (and reported by western media sources!) in the area during the protests in Beijing, on and near Tiananmen Square in summer of 1989.
for those of you who still believe in the "Tiananmen Massacre" narrative, and are skeptical about official Chinese accounts, here is a reading list, including accounts and news articles from western journalists who were there on the ground, about what actually happened. available here (hint there was no mass killing of civilians)
These evacuated "dissidents" were quickly admitted to Ivy league and other high-prestige academic institutions in the west, some even awarded honorary degrees. Some of the most prominent people relocated by Operation Yellowbird are now business and tech execs, venture capitalists/financial managers, NGO founders living comfortable lives in the west.
Their exaggerated (and inconsistent) recollections of the protests that ended with June 4th, recounted to western media years later while living in the west, has built up the myth of a massacre of civilians by an "authoritarian and totalitarian" Chinese government. They're still making documentaries and media appearances and testifying to US Congress. The mischaracterization of the events in summer 1989 that feeds into sinophobic narratives about Chinese people and the Chinese government are built on hyperbolic recollections and outright lies, and ritualistic recounting every year by these people keeps this narrative afloat in the minds of westerners. Concern for "human rights violations," especially when exaggerated or even built on towers of lies, are a common sympathy-garnering tactic for manufacturing thirst and support for "intervention" (read: war) by portraying “enemies” as monsters, and also works to muddy the waters about actual human rights violations regularly committed by the United States, both foreign and domestic.
Yeah we should absolutely dunk on the Yeonmi Parks. But we should also very much also dunk on "What we are looking anticipating is bloodshed, and only when the square is filled with rivers of blood will Chinese unite, but how could I tell my followers that I need them to sacrifice their lives [for "our" cause]?... But I cannot continue on in square, I'm different from them, I'm on a blacklist, I don't want to die." Chai Ling
