Maritime historytrivia #1
The term "Captain's daughter" does not in fact, refer to the captain's daughter. It refers to a rope, or in some cases, leather, usually split in 9 ends. (Or 'tails' which is also why it's known as Cat o'nine tails) It's a whip, used by the captain(or at his orders) to punish sailors for things like mutiny and to discipline them. Sounds nice, no?
