Mirabel Madrigal has officially arrived for meet and greet at Magic Kingdom (Walt Disney World) and I couldn't be happier. She is my favorite character and comfort character combined, especially because Encanto is my favorite Disney movie.
Thank you for a wonderful experience, Mirabel ❤❤

I made a playlist for Hispanic Heritage Month.
All bands and artists featured are goth, deathrock, darkwave, or adjacent genres from Spain and Latin America, or otherwise prominently feature members of Hispanic backgrounds.
I've long since held the opinion that without the LatAm and Spanish scenes doing most of the heavy lifting, goth as a subculture probably would not have lived past the mid-2000s, and I feel like those scenes deserve more recognition.

American Historia: The Untold History of Latinos
Even though I have recent indigenous ancestry in my own family, I never really realized Caribbean history is also indigenous history, too. I mean, I know it but tend to find that aside from the Spanish-speaking Caribbean, the rest of us are usually excluded from the narrative. So, it was very touching to see this work by John Leguizamo and others that is making a very intentional effort to actually tell this story without excluding us entirely for the sake of mestizaje or trying to seem superior (es decir: más distinto, más elevado) to black people.
"You can't have an inclusive democracy unless people understand how their histories are shared."
I'm glad to say I did actually get to learn about the advancements of the indigenous civilizations of Mesoamerica and South America in depth in primary school, the Olmecs, the Incas, the Maya, the Aztecs or the Mexica, but still was able to learn things I never knew or hadn't heard in a long time (and don't necessarily remember learning about in secondary school). By contrast, histories on the indigenous Caribbean (the Taíno, the Arawak, the Carib) has always been more heavily inconsistent and incomplete. (For example, these names might just be different names for the same people and the actual tribes spoke different languages and probably called themselves something else.) So, I really appreciated the care given to telling this part of the story.
"When history is written by the victors, we miss out on the perspective of the oppressed."

I’ve got midterms coming up so I haven’t been posting lately 😭. But I realized I still had these drawings in drafts.
And I remembered I planned on posting drawings of my trapeze couple on Hispanic Heritage Month so 🤔…why not post them?
These two here are Marcos and Vanessa. They may not show it due to discrimination Marcos faces as a reploid, but they’re madly in love and support each other through their hardships ensuring one doesn’t face life alone.
When I was sketching concepts for Marcos, I jokingly wondered if I could make him Latino for the sake of it…and then I just liked the idea so much I stuck to it. I don’t see any reploids that aren’t light skinned other than Layer in Mega Man X8, so I figured I’ll add a little representation, why not 😝? I may be a white Latina but I have tan family, and some friends who are also Mexican American 🇲🇽 🇺🇸 !

Finding good tv or movies to watch during Hispanic heritage month is nearly impossible. All of the shows I see are either Hispanics in a lesser position to a superior (that happens to be white, no shade meant btw) and them trying their best at their job or Hispanics selling drugs or just Hispanics in badly written comedies.
Where’s my Hispanic heroes or just a normal Hispanic kid trying to deal with their family during their quincenera planning or something? I just want a Hispanic MC that isn’t in a badly scripted show or movie.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Tito Puente - Oye Cómo Va (1962)
We’re celebrating “Hispanic Heritage Month” on Oldies Sunday. Hispanic Americans made significant contributions from entertainment, to sports, to pop culture, and we have highlighted a number of them.
