From Rejection to Revelation: An Author’s Unfiltered Journey Through Writing and Publishing
Every writer has a story, but not all are as raw, fearless, and authentic as this one. From childhood poems to a gripping cycle-of-abuse thriller, this author’s creative path has been paved with persistence, hard lessons, and a refusal to be silenced by rejection. In this exclusive interview, we delve into the mind of a writer who turned satire into substance, overcame the traps of vanity publishing, and found strength in telling difficult, emotionally complex stories. Whether you're an aspiring author or a curious reader, prepare to be inspired by an unfiltered perspective on writing, publishing, and the transformative power of storytelling.
When did you discover your passion for writing? I have always enjoyed writing, even as a child. Initially, I wrote poems, later satire and short stories.

A History of a Bookworm
Reading is something that I’ve loved for, well, as long as I can remember. I know that I was reading well ahead of my years before I even started school because I distinctly remember being in Kindergarten wanting to read in class, but my teacher said I couldn’t because the other kids weren’t up on the same level as I was. Honestly, that seems a little rude, especially to say that to a five-year…

Bookworm Will Review 2025 (#56)
Title: The Traitor and The Wretch
Author: Jasmine Walls
Rating: 4 / 5
Review: (MILD SPOILERS)
You gotta appreciate when the product matches the marketing!
In a world of heroic prophecies and terrifying gods, can a couple of two-bit henchmen lie, steal, and kill their way to a happy ending?
Knell is more than willing to accept death now that the Chaos Bringer has been defeated by the holy Prophesized Hero. However, death doesn't come right away, and the ex-cultist finds the unconscious body of Percy, a soldier who happens to now be a wanted traitor by the new king. The two are now on the run from the entire kingdom!
I had A LOT of fun reading this and not just because it is illustrated by one of my favorite artists. Rowan ( @skulkingfoxes ) just kills it every time, but besides the art, the story was fantastic.
The story kicks off immediately in the midst of war and introduces us to the world through Knell's eyes which is rather depressing. I felt really bad for the guy. Actually I felt bad for him throughout the story tbh! The characterization is really solid in terms of the dual POV and if you LOVE miscommunication trope, you'll LOVE these two knuckleheads. Their journey together is plot driven, however, the actual story is purely character focused as you read through their own insecurities and vulnerabilities, some more obvious than others.
*GESTURING WILDLY TO KNELL*
The hot headed, quick tempered soldier having to survive with this introverted and sheltered ex-cultist, who can also do some pretty scary magic, turned into grumpy x depressed to mildly-grumpy x overcast. It was endearing as Knell regains autonomy while having to be, most of the time, shepherd by Percy. Their journey does take a up a lot of the book, but they do have some highs and lows in terms of pacing that kept it interesting. Briefly wandering into civilization, escaping capture more than once (only getting "caught" once), fighting/running away from all sorts of giant bugs/undead, so it isn't just them wandering through a mountain for 300+ pages.
My only real "criticism" comes from personal opinion/taste.
Could the story have been a little shorter, yes. That would've have impacted the amount of characterization, but some parts did seem to lull longer than others. We spent a lot of time not getting to explore the world to it's fullest which was kind of a loss, but then you have to wager it's because they're on the run so neither of them wants to stop and smell the roses. While on the other hand, I did get a little frustrated by Knell's avoidance to just ask certain things, that being said, when you learn about him, it makes sense as to why he didn't/couldn't. Again, that whole theme of how to regain autonomy after leaving a cult makes sense and wasn't just a excuse to include the miscommunication trope. The romance was sweet, it just felt like it was lacking something to really tie into why Percy started to show reciprocating feelings other than "I want to protect this clueless idiot with my life." That's just me being nit picky though.
Overall, a big fat yes!

a prayer for the crown-shy // becky chambers
first published: 2022 read: 29 june 2025 - 01 july 2025 pages: 152 format: hardback
genres: fiction; science fiction; cosy; lgbtq+ (non-binary mc) favourite character(s): mosscap least favourite character(s): didn't have one first line(s): "the thing about fucking off to the woods is that unless you are a very particular, very rare sort of person, it does not take long to understand why people left said woods in the first place."
rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗 thoughts: my library took forever to get this book to me after i finished a psalm for the wild-built (even though i reserved my copy immediately), but i finally got my hands on a prayer for the crown-shy and finished it in a couple of days. i really enjoy this duology a lot. i may even like this book more than the first? idk, they're both just joyful.
i don't know what to say other than to reiterate what i felt about book one. i loved the characters, the world building, the thoughtful musings on life, the comfort. i absolutely will be buying a copy of these at some point. i feel they are going to bring some much needed comfort at one time or another and i'll be happy to have them to hand.
if you've been wanting to read these books for a while, please do. they are short but so sweet.
