I decided to start reading one of my luckiest thrift finds, which is this history book on the daily life in ancient Rome. I got it a couple of years ago for something like three euros and deep in my heart I know I'll never be this lucky again. The idea is to follow the author in a day in imperial Rome hour by hour, in order to focus on the daily habits and cultural history. And this is my favourite kind of history. What people wore, what they ate, how their day was structured, what they did in their free time, and so on. These are the things I love about history and this book is so well done. And I was very happy to find out it was translated in English so if you are interested I truly recommend it.

I read I think last night someone saying that Emmrich and Davrin are like two single dads with diametrically opposed parenting styles, and at first I was a little skeptical (because people are often very quick to assign parental terms and roles to characters and their bonds, even when I personally often find that kind of unwarranted), but yknow? Taking the two of them out together?

Yeah, I hate to admit it, but I can't not see that either.

Like I've only had Emmrich on the team for like ten minutes, but already I feel like their styles really fit their respective "children" too.

Emmrich is like a permissive, encouraging "parent" to an ultimately harmless wisp of curiosity, and Davrin's job is to care for a largely undisciplined adolescent griffon that's brimming with restless energy.

Manfred is like a toddler just learning what his fingers and toes are for and needs his proud daddy to encourage his artistic endeavors by putting his crooked finger-painted portraits of the Veilguard up on the fridge, while Assan is like, a rowdy, jocky teenage boy who would live off Monster energy if he could, and needs his dad to sometimes lay down the law and protect him from himself so that he doesn't fuck up his future and lose his sports scholarship.

Sun-Jae turns absolutely giddy whenever Sol expresses concern for his well-being.

When she retrieved his swim trunks and told him that she had a nightmare about him getting hurt.

When she was worried about him being all by himself and taken advantage of by strangers after he'd won her a phone.

When she sweetly nagged him over the phone to prioritize his needs over others and not simply endure the stress.

When the paparazzi snapped pictures of them together and she fretted over the possibility of it affecting his career.

Each time, he is surprised by her concern and wonders, "Wait, is she worried…. about me?" and each time, he grins and mentally fangirls over it.

He just cannot believe that the girl of his dreams, the one he'd mooned over for so long…. actually cares about him.

I’ve made a kiddads post assigning them things that I did/happened to me growing up. Now I’m doing that with the dads and my father’s experiences.

Darryl: In high school, he snuck out to attend a party - at a barn, in the middle of nowhere - with the rest of his football buddies. He did not have a good time and left not even two hours in. Frank didn’t even question him on his whereabouts, he woke up his parents and flat out confessed upon returning home.

Glenn: He was out at a bar with the GCT the night before his wedding. He’d only had one drink and walked outside to call a cab when he fainted and hit his nose off the edge of the curb. No one could figure out why he fainted and, sporadically, he still does. His nose is broken in all of his wedding pictures.

(Bonus: he once fainted in front of a cop after there was a noise complaint. Morgan came down to see Glenn flat on the ground and a mortified cop at their door. Glenn does not remember this at all.)

Ron: Early on in his relationship with Samantha, he took Terry Jr out on a “stepfather-son bonding day”. All they did was sit in a cafe, staring at each other in silence as Terry Jr had a milkshake and Ron had coffee. Ron did not like it and started stealing some of Terry’s milkshake with a spoon. This was the closest they’d ever been before the Forgotten Realms.

Henry: My father is simply too put together. He’s never had an experience like Henry in his life.
