I think one of my favorite things about UNDEAD willl always be Kaoru Not Getting The Memo.
Like.
Tumblr media
Only one smiling on the Destruction Road album cover.

First ! Era 5 Star isn't in the UNDEAD uniform.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only UNDEAD member to not regularly wear earrings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
His center event song and vibe are completely different from the others and without any purple in the card.
Kaoru also:
Is the only monolingual one in UNDEAD (made a separate post about it here)
Is the only UNDEAD member who couldn't play an instrument (except for middle-school-level recorder) until !! Era.
During Halloween, instead of a traditional monster like the rest of UNDEAD (vampire, werewolf, Frankenstein), he was a "sexy priest".
Is the only UNDEAD member whose center event didn't release in November (releasing in June instead).
Is the only one who didn't want to initially join/be associated with UNDEAD.
He really is the "human" one of UNDEAD and it's so funny and interesting to me.

Watching Kafka and Reno’s interactions at the beginning of the Kaiju No.8 anime hits differently after catching up with the manga.
Reno protesting Kafka’s carelessness with his Kaiju form is a fun gag early on in the story, and his decision to stick with Kafka during the exam is endearing—but it’s amplified and almost sad in retrospect.
Manga spoilers from chapter 101 onward below the cut.
We learn in Ch. 101 that Reno has suffered a huge amount of loss in his life.
He lost his parents and brother. He lost the familiarity and daily routine of attending his existing school. He lost emotional security, witnessing his grandmother’s struggle with their mutual grief. He lost faith in the idea that someone might help.
Only for Kafka to trip headlong into correcting that belief.
Despite Reno’s disrespect, Kafka fully embodies his senpai title by teaching him the tricks of the trade. He looks out for and helps him without hesitation, and he brushes off any jabs or insults with a quick, internal wince.
And then Kafka absolutely shatters his core beliefs by shoving him out of a Kaiju’s path.
This guy—a guy Reno barely knows, a guy that he insulted seconds into their first meeting—is willing to die for him without hesitation.
Is it any surprise that Reno really would rather not lose him?
All of those reminders and all of that fussing is to keep Reno’s only hero from being scrapped for literal parts.
For the first time since the death of his family, someone steps between Reno and tragedy. Of course he’s going to do everything in his power to keep that savior alive.

What Deku doesn't understand is that the “League of Villains” encapsulates exactly who Tenko - the Crying Child Deku was so adamant about saving - is. He thinks reaching out a hand, smashing that hatred, and saving Tenko means getting Tenko to abandon the League. He is completely wrong - and he would've realized this if he just talked to Shigaraki in all the time he fought against Shigaraki. And listened to what Tenko said in Chapter 418.
The League of Villains is the group Shigaraki Tomura created in order to wreck shit and kill All Might and bring down Hero Society. Shigaraki picked the name and picked the purpose and picked its members and he leads them towards the apocalypse—
—and this is also the group of outcasts that are his comrades and friends; that he gathered and created a place for, where they can be themselves in a society that ruthlessly denied them that. He accepted Twice without care for his insanity and inability to use his quirk, never pushed Twice to do more than he was able to. He accepted Spinner despite being a Stain fanboy and having a weak, nearly useless quirk, and promised him the destruction of the world that hurt him; for all of League. When Toga was pushed by the other members to choose a Villain name despite wanting to live as herself, as Toga Himiko, Shigaraki spoke up in indirect defense of her choice, providing himself as an example of someone who didn't use a Villain name, and who can override the boss' words? Dabi was allowed to come and go as he pleased, and although he was the most aloof member, by the end, he was declaring the world burn for "our" sake - plural; the League's. Mr. Compress believed in Shigaraki enough to entrust an ancestor's dream and family legacy to him; when surrounded by Heroes at Jaku, he was willing to die to save Shigaraki, to let him escape.
The League is a collection of people that Shigaraki cares for - that he saved. That was always the surest sign that ‘Tenko’, sweet and kind and hero-aspiring boy, was alive inside.
Without the League, without having seen the time Shigaraki spent with the League, a reader can just write off Shigaraki and say there’s nothing left in there worth saving. The League is literally the evidence for Tenko have still existed and that Shigaraki was "worth" saving, long before we ever saw ‘Inner Tenko’.
But Deku doesn't understand that.
To go further: outside of the League, Shigaraki still had his distorted but undeniable kindness and fairness. I've spoke about it before, and sorry for repeating myself, but even towards his Villain enemies, he gives them consideration: Shigaraki left Overhaul crippled, but 100 chapters later, he's still continuing Overhaul's work - the quirk erasing bullets - and even laments that Overhaul would be disappointed when Shigaraki sees some of the bullets destroyed. All For One at Jaku tries to take over his body, at the time seemingly only a phantom voice in his head, but Shigaraki still acknowledges that he's grateful AFO took him in. It's only when AFO oversteps that again and again, taking possession of his body, that Shigaraki would tear the AFO vestige from inside out and mock him when the opportunity arises.
And there's ReDestro, and the importance of the ending of MVA. RD and his army picks a fight with Shigaraki - something that Shigaraki explicitly points out; the blame for what happened to Deika is on largely them. RD challenged Shigaraki and the League; blackmailed them, kidnapped their broker, and attacked their pitiful 6-member team with a town-sized militia; insulted Shigaraki, destroyed The Hands, tried to kill him. Shigaraki had every reason to just dust RD while the man was sitting there bleeding out with his legs cut off. Just finish him off without even giving the guy last words. It was more than fair.
But Shigaraki didn't. He went and talked to RD. To mock him for picking this fight, but it was still a talk. And when RD acknowledge his defeat and kowtowed, Shigaraki let him live. Took over his army and resources, but RD was still alive and even made lieutenant.
Without this - if Shigaraki had just dusted RD after defeating him - we would have only seen Shigaraki as a conquerer and not someone who can be reasoned with. He would just be AFO with different minions. And Shigaraki wasn't.
He can be brutal, and he seems like he's destroying for evil fun; but Shigaraki has his compassion and justice. A Villainous Hero for the Villains. It's why he destroys; it's why he doesn't regret his actions, why he wishes good luck to Deku to continue it, even after Deku smashed his core of anger and hatred. Shigaraki saved his League, and he refuses to disavow doing so. Because he shouldn't.
And Deku just doesn't understand that.

Something I will never personally forgive the English ffxiv translation for is yeah sort of Haurchefant being more overtly flirty and even a little perverted- but it's also his last words to WOL bc in Japanese it's smth like "Heroes cannot be sad, but you have such a beautiful smile. Try not to forget mine" and like that carried over to the other versions like French and German but English changed to the admittedly iconic "A smile better suits a hero" but idk I think the original translation just felt a lot more personal.
Oh, also, allegedly Haurchefant and Aymeric's friendship was a lot more apparent in Japanese dub which is smth that makes sense bc Edmont just randomly saying Aymeric is like another son to him kinda feels shitty without the context of their frienship. But if you say that Haurche and Aymeric are good friends, then it's like "You were someone important to my son so I welcome you" and idk I just feel like it would have slapped a little harder

sho haizono — morning warmth (one-shot)
Tumblr media
you, who can not cook, attempts to prepare breakfast for sho. what could go wrong?
pairing: sho haizono / reader
tags: fluff, teasing sho to death lmfao
words: 811
[cross posted from ao3]
Tumblr media
it was a perfect day albeit a little strange. sho was still sleeping when you woke up, and oddly enough, leo and alan were nowhere in sight. you turned to your right where sho laid sleeping and felt a smile creep up on your lips. he really wasn't one to sleep while it's dark out; he prefers to go to sleep when it's nearly dawn, when the sky is gradually turning blue from the pitch black darkness.
'he looks so peaceful.' you thought, eyes gazing over at his relaxed expression. he looks beautiful drowned by the blankets you cuddled under just last night. he looked so cozy that you couldn't dare wake him up. instead, you opted to lean in and place a chaste yet sincere kiss on his forehead before picking up after yourself to prepare for the morning.
a yawn and a stretch– with an invigorated burst, you started to wake yourself up and collect the ingredients to make breakfast in bed for sho. you weren't the very best at cooking yet with how much sho cooks for you, you thought it'd be best to give back to him somehow.
after weighing down your choices on what to prepare, you decided to settle with omelets. it's just an egg, right? how hard can it be?
alas, you're now on your fourth failed attempt of trying to shape the stubborn egg. who knew there were so many things to take into consideration? the heat of the pan, amount of oil, and even the egg mixture!
"oi, what're you doin' there?" sho's gruff voice snaps you back into reality as he stands by the door frame of the kitchen, scratching his head, and his expression in a deadpan. "you tryna cook for everyone in the dorm or what?"
though to others, he'd sound annoyed, you knew he was just confused. after all, you were looking panicked in the kitchen with four plates of failed omelet.
"i thought of cooking breakfast for you." you confessed since the cat's out of the bag anyway.
sho sighs and takes a step closer to you until you can feel him directly behind you, "what did i tell you? i said you don't ever have to cook with me around."
you'd laugh at sho's apprehension, finding his sleepy yet troubled mutterings adorable- though he'd never forgive you if you called him that!
"aww, i just wanted to cook for you." you replied, forming a little pout on your lips as you glanced back at him.
"fine, fine. if that's what you want." he nonchalantly caves in, maintaining his cool demeanor as he takes his place behind you.
he was close, too close though you'd never point it out knowing he'd be flustered and immediately back away. he was close enough for you to feel his breath by your hair and the warmth of his chest on your back. though sho, seemingly still sleepy, had other plans.
his hand held yours from behind; one guiding your grip on the pan, the other on the spatula as the egg on the pan started to form. his skilled hands holding yours guided you to shape the egg, telling you to manage the temperature of the stove as you basked in his warmth.
"woah, it didn't turn out shabby!" you exclaimed upon seeing him place the omelet on top of the rice you had prepared. "you're really good with your hands, huh?" you teased him all to see his flustered expression.
"you..." he grumbled under his breath, rolling his eyes. instead of continuing, he adeptly changes the topic, "sorry for sleeping in, you must've been looking for breakfast." he mutters a quick apology.
he's always so nice and it never fails to make your heart flutter or make your stomach do flips. you shook your head, clarifying the misunderstanding, "i wanted to cook for you since you're always cooking for me."
for once, sho was taken aback; he froze in his spot and his cheeks became dusted with red.
"you don't have to do that for me." he muttered under his breath, trying to deflect the affection he was feeling.
"but i still want to try since sho-kun is such an inspiration when cooking~" you decided to tease him a little more to coax out more of his flustered habits like averting his eyes or picking up his utensils before setting it down and picking it up again. every single detail was charming and so, so endearing to you.
"thanks, i guess..." he grumbles, looking away as if extremely aware of the reddening tips of his ears which makes you chuckle.
"i miss the times you called me senpai." you decided to throw in another jab to tease him which makes him grumble under his breath even more, forcing another hearty chuckle from you.
"hmph- fine," sho huffs, "arigato, senpai.”

For once I actually went through the Arcane AMA and found those quotes about Silco's motivation. It's kind of wild to see it in full context.
Tumblr media
First, I didn't even know the "dirty little thing" insecurity was an agreed upon perspective, I just thought it was one writer's opinion but no, Christian Linke (Praeco) let us know that was Silco's thing. Ok. I can see how that can tie in to how Silco and Jinx connected, personal insecurities from a hard life.
Tumblr media
But then Amanda Overton (leeloo104) goes into detail.
Tumblr media
I already know the creative team said they don't think political struggle is "relatable" (yikes), but I've never seen this extra tidbit before!
Tumblr media
What do you mean this all so Vander will respect Silco again?!!??!? First of all I could really go in about how Arcane's team seem incapable of having any character fully articulate an actual in-depth explanation about on their grievances with the status quo and what changes should be applied that isn't somehow about familial validation. *looks at Jinx*
Instead, we need unpack how this motivation is at best, very weird, or flat out doesn't make sense. The quote makes it sound like Zaun was fully Silco's idea to win back Vander's love and respect, but Silco said a free Zaun was their shared dream. And regaining Vander's respect seems like a moot point when Silco killed Vander.
Unless Silco knows Vander isn't dead, and that Singed's been slowly turning Vander into Warwick. But then why does he talk to the Vander statue like Vander is dead? I don't doubt Silco wouldn't visit Warwick even in Warwick's confused state. Either way, the Vander that Silco wanted to receive validation from doesn't exist anymore.
I get that they probably wanted to connect Silco's motivation to Jinx's obsession with Vi, but that can be problematic too! It just ends up where Silco and Jinx are written in a way where their search for emotional validation takes precedence over any attempt for them to communicate a coherent and detailed observation on the surrounding politics of their environment.
It would be one thing if they were minor characters, or this was just related to Jinx because she's the youngest in the cast and her story is about understanding who she is. But it's both of them, Silco's at least in his forties, and they're a part of the main cast. On top of that, I'd say their the two most politically influential Zaunites in the cast, and we know NOTHING about what they stand for, what they think the future should look like. Nothing, just vibes.
