book recs pls? U have amazing taste

im gonna assume this is half in reference to the lilith vincent book i mentioned earlier so i'll give you some of my favorite romances 💞 i tried not to rec a book i've already suggested here before, so some of my very favorites ever are left out!

the authors I'll read like literally anything by are Tessa Bailey, Lily Gold, Ana Huang, J.T. Geissinger, Elsie Silver, Harley Laroux, Rina Kent... and probably someone I'm forgetting tbh but those are some of my favs

also i got a little out of hand and these are kinda all over the place lmao, but here we go! my standards for romance are very low btw so don't judge my taste

Darker romances:

Sticking with Lilith Vincent - I love her books Brutal Intentions and (to a lesser extent) Pageant. Brutal Intentions is a step-dad romance, Pageant (the first of two books, I think the second is wayyy better) is like... dark, mafia, reverse harem, kidnapping, a whole lot tbh. Look up trigger warnings!!! I think she lists them at the start of the book

I don't particularly like H.D. Carlton (I very much so disliked Haunting/Hunting Adeline) but I fucking LOVED her book Does It Hurt? If you want fucked up characters, toxic relationships, noncon, and a pretty well-written subplot for a self-published romance I would recommend this one! (tbh I'm half convinced it's ghostwritten, I cant fathom Haunting Adeline and Does It Hurt? being written by the same person)

Sinners Anonymous & it's sequels by Somme Sketcher. Mafia romance. Age-gap. Kinda trashy but very fun imo. Also read Danielle Lori's Made series if that sounds neat to you!

M.L. Marian's Claimed & Tamed series. Each book follows a different man in the same family where the tradition is that men kidnap their wives. My favorite is Caught <3

Romcoms/Lighter stuff:

I like most Mariana Zapata books, but my favorite is either Under Locke or Luna and the Lie. I've read 7 of her books and they're all basically the same structure with the same characters, so if you read one and like the dynamics you'll probably like her others

One Percent of You by Michelle Gross is my favorite single mom romance of all time. Tattoo artist who hates kids falls in love with his over-worked neighbor who's a single mother of two. SO cute and soft

Bittersweet by Morgan Elizabeth. tattoo artist x baker, this is one of my favorite romcoms ever.

Sunny Disposition by Deanna Gray. Amnesia, college, hockey, roommates to lovers, this is a very soft and fun read that I enjoyed as a bit of a palette cleanser. Iirc it was a little long, but a good time

Other??:

When a Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare. I don't like historical romance much, but this doesn't really feel like one to me! A woman makes up a soldier to write letters to so she can avoid getting married, and years later he shows up on her doorstep ready for their wedding. This is so much fun

Transcendence by Shay Savage - two words for you: Caveman Romance. This is told entirely from the caveman's perspective and tells the story of him meeting a woman who's very odd (because she's from the future) and their life together. It drags a little bit at times, but I think it's so so fun and the end had me crying

King by TM Frazier goes a little off the rails, but I had fun with it. The main character is called 'Pup' for like 90% of the book and that was enough for me. Our FMC has amnesia and is taken in by a local gang leader and the plot goes from there

Under His Heel by Adara Wolf - ok before I say what this is about, I cannot overstate how dark and fucked up this book series is. They're disturbing. I loved them, I've read them all at least twice, but they are deeply upsetting. It takes place in space in the far distant future and follows our main character Alex as he becomes an indentured servant for a sociopath named Captain Tracht. These books are a weird mix of porn and plot, but if you want fucked up smut and fucked up relationship dynamics, this is the holy grail

YET ANOTHER long and obnoxious stream of my thoughts while watching greys anatomy for the first time (S19 bc i’m finally caught up, babey!!!! (phew))

-i hope this new class of residents isn’t as one dimensional as the last one

-“you say please to bhokee!” hell yeah you do schmitt. (i love that she did say please he was just so ready to jump down her throat about it lmoa)

-DEREK’S NEPHEW ?????!!! WHICH SISTER? my money is on nancy bc i always thought she was the oldest so she would have the son old enough to be out of med school

-okay i’m too curious (for some reason i’ve always just been curious about the shepherds) so i’ve gone back to S15E21 (good shepherd) to see if i could get a better look at nancy’s wall of family photos. i see one of nancy with a young curly haired girl, kathleen with a light haired child, and two photos that are just groups of kids. my assumption is that these two are all of nancy’s kids because if she had photos of her nieces and nephews i feel like they would include their parents. both photos show two boys and two girls. it looks like the same four kids just at two different ages. the oldest (or at least the tallest) in both photos is a boy with dark hair. this may support my theory that nancy is lucas’s mother. the rest of the photos aren’t very clear. the only thing is that all of the kids look very fair and lucas is not. they also clearly wrote this episode way after they shot the scene with amelia looking at the photos so they may have not even bothered with details that were meant to be sort of irrelevant at the time.

-okay this is a very tragic story with (griffin??? griffith??) and makes her lateness and weirdness understandable but am i the only one who thinks it’s insanely bizarre to be sharing your tragic life story to your superior on your first day?

-idk about this season yet. i feel them trying to sort of mirror season one in some ways, focusing more on the interns (which i think i like), trying to connect back to old characters, but it feels a *little* forced so far

-i like mean and snappy teddy

-have we ever seen this library before?

-“i tried to implement similar changes at various times and was always met with resistance” ???? when did bailey try to implement those changes to the residency program? she implemented changes but they for sure weren’t these ones

-why is it better for them to think he’s sleeping with her????? jfc lucas

-ADDISON LOOKS SO HOT. i like this costuming for her. very reminiscent of her private practice wardrobe

-i really like baileys braids this season btw. and i like that she has a special scrub cap that can cover them all

-lucas’s dad is from barbados. idk what to do with that but it is another clue lmao. if nothing else, i’m hooked on this season just to find out who his mother is

-no comment on the dancing

-helm looks really cute as a bartender

-owen when teddy isn’t super happy and content with him after he fucked them over and put their children’s well-beings at risk: 😯

-what planet is owen living on where he thinks they would let him be chief again rn

-i can see myself shipping mike chang and mary queen of scots once they develop their characters a bit more. simone and lucas i like in theory but idk about the chemistry

-a full time administrative assistant is completely reasonable. richard had patricia when he was chief

-looking very hot for having just been hit by a car

-winston definitely had a point at first but at this point he’s pissing me off. it’s reminding me of that big meredith and cristina fight in the sense that it feels like he’s deliberately taking everything she’s doing and saying in the worst possible way.

-richard and addison’s dynamic is so underrated

-this is incredibly random but it just popped into my head. it’s so weird that amelia has never brought up her friend michelle on greys. you know, her friend from pp that committed suicide bc she had huntingtons which ultimately kickstarted amelia’s relapse. i feel like it could have been relevant to a few cases

-pru is so fucking cute

-so many people keep leaving i don’t really have a reaction to it anymore. but i will very much miss maggie. ik a lot of people don’t like maggie (prob bc they thought she was trying to fill the spaces that lexi and cristina left behind) but i really liked her. i think i found her very relatable in a lot of ways. even/especially when she was a little annoying lol

-why is this guy specifically requesting bailey? (not that she’s not great at her job it just has suspicious vibes) is he one of the anti choice harassers? nervous for that especially since addison is here so i feel like it will be about that storyline

Hi amazing Mars! What are some of your unpopular opinions on Scream? You already know a few of mine---including the fact that overall I love these recent three films even more than the original trilogy. (Don't hate me---obviously I love the first three too, I just have a weird attachment to 4, 6 and even the underrated 5!)

ohh this is a good question and one i feel like i can easily answer but fair warning because obviously these will be semi-unpopular opinions lmao 😅

1.) Tara is my LEAST fav of the core 4 and i think she’s one of the most boring new age characters. I’m a huge Jenna Ortega fan but if they killed Tara off I literally don’t think I’d be mad and I’d majorly prefer that to losing one of the twins in Scream 7.

2.) Gale > Sidney. I absolutely ADORE Sidney as a character and a final girl but I find Gale to be more fascinating from a meta / narrative perspective.

3.) ^ And on this note… Sam > Sidney 🤷 Once again I find Sam to be a more complex final girl and I enjoy the way she bucks against the tropes of the genre. I could write a whole essay on this topic but Sam exhibits a lot of flaws that usually only male characters in media are afforded and I find that to be really interesting/forward thinking.

4.) I’m going to go off of one of your points there but 4, 5, & 6 were the best movies since the OG and definitely the best sequels in the franchise.

5.) I think Stu Macher is overrated. And the fact that people STILL think he could be alive or come back even though Scream 6 clearly made fun of that theory by having Ethan literally get killed by the SAME FUCKING TV is actually insane to me.

6.) People who complained about the amount of survivors in Scream 6 clearly weren’t listening to the meta themes of the movie, lol. Every (good) Scream film has a meta commentary and then a societal one. Scream 6’s meta commentary was on subverted expectations, and the movie does that by subverting the audiences expectation that expectations will be subverted. You think that one of the twins is going to die because they survived in 5 and this movie is “obviously” going to try and subvert you by killing a survivor! NOPE! Plot twist, they all live and even one of the newbies does.

(Mindy literally laid this out in her monologue btw, they name dropped subverted expectations and the last jedi for a reason and THIS was why…)

7.) I think the Scream fandom is too obsessed with ghostface kill counts and etc 😅 I judge the killers based on vibes and how interesting their narrative was… not based on how many people they offed.

8.) I really loved the Bailey-Kirsches motivation as ghostface and even if most of the fandom didn’t like their reveals I thought they had one of the best unmaskings/third acts in the franchise 🤷

9.) Also… last controversial take Chad > Dewey!

i hate to actually get what the writers were trying to do with owen here and his reaction to the story behind alison's name but being that grey's tries to be this progressive show and how they're all about owen hunt being a good man deep down (like yeah ok sure keep saying it and not showing it you pieces of shit lol) i feel like that line wasn't so much about him having an issue with her sexual orientation as him being angry at one more lie/omission in the wake of discovering her cheating

Not to be that bitch and please call me out if what I’m saying is problematic... but where are the black and brown covid patients that they keep talking about????? All I see is Mer and Tom being sickos. I wanna know about these patients: their stories, their struggles, their bonds between family, friends, and doctors and staff and nurses. It’s ep 5 and we’ve seen two instances of white people being “schooled” by poc and that’s boring af. Bailey’s story about her mom dying was the closest we got. We can have stories without white people, thanks.

If you read my fics, you know I love one-liners that hit. I know they were trying that with Owen but it’s just in poor taste. It’s poor because I don’t know if I’m supposed to side with Teddy or with Owen. And it’s poor because the entire conversation checks off points in the biphobic checklist (Teddy being conveniently bi, how she lied, how she cheated, etc.) and it’s like ~yikes!!!!~. And it’s in poor taste because, in general, this storyline is so damn fucking BORING and I can’t believe Teddy has been reduced to this. And Owen too.

And I know he feels betrayed and as he should and it would be irk-y to know your child was named after your cheating spouse’s lover (WHO’S DEAD BTW. Does Owen know that??? Does Owen know about Allison????). It’s like if she named her child Tom, lmao. But at the same time, it’s NOT the same. Because Teddy is bi and queer and Allison is dead.

(Also I can’t remember if Teddy told Owen about Allison or that she was in love with a woman but the following is under the assumption that she didn’t:)

I’m talking in circles but like I said in my other ask: I don’t expect the characters to understand these nuances. They could very well say the exact same thing but if the show framed it differently, with a little more introspection from either Owen or teddy or both, it could be queer-conscious or clearer as to what Owen means by all that. Right now, Teddy’s just a cheater and she’s bi and she lied and Owen is mad. And that’s what grey’s is showing us.

I would’ve liked to see Teddy struggle with telling Owen she’s bi/was in love with a woman. That her love for Allison was difficult and hard for her and it’s why she named her child after her. I know we had that one episode but the struggle ain’t over and now it could be framed with how Teddy feels about Owen (that she feels like she owes him the truth or this piece of knowledge). But all we had was Teddy just tell Owen, “I named our child after the first love of my life.” Allison’s way more than the first (or greatest. Whatever she said. I only watched the ep once so please call me out of everything I’m saying is wrong lol) It’s just different when you’re queer.

BUT *throws hands in the air* how can I expect grey’s to understand that??? So I’ll just have to move on and hope it gets better in the new year when they’ve had time to gauge people’s reactions before they film the other episodes.

Characters – Sam x Reader

Summary – Sam’s a civilian now, working as a handyman for a local motel and thinking he’s out of the hunting life forever.  When the owner of the motel asks him to make some repairs on a house he rents out for some extra money, Sam agrees, not knowing that the job will have him questioning his new life.

Word Count – 2,687

Warnings – None; mostly fluff, with a little bit of angst right in the middle.

A/N – Part one! Takes place between Seasons 7 and 8, when Sam became a handyman after Dean disappeared – canon divergent in that he meets Y/N rather than Amelia.  This was written for both a request and a challenge.  This request came in from @winchesters-princess: “Can you pretty please write a handyman!sam x reader based off 8.05 “blood brother” fluffy of course ❤️ that was Sam’s actual job and he was on a house call to fix something rather than the motel like in the ep.”   Here you go, Ro!  I hope you enjoy it!
