This is a DELAYED character review. I know what’s going to happen to them in s2. I’m saying this as to say that I’m fully aware of the dramatic irony of some of these character reviews 😭 also this is a transcript from an audio I sent to my friends when I actually finished S1 so I’m sorry if some bits don’t make sense. I’ve edited a bit but not entirely.

TWD CHARACTER REVIEWS - SEASON 1

Rick Grimes: 10/10. He is an amazing person, he’s an even more amazing father. He's selfless, kind, gentle, understanding, caring, protective, loving, brave and so much more. The relationship that he has with people around him is so nice to watch. Him owning up to things immediately without knowing how people react is such a nice characteristic about him that I really hope he doesn't lose. He’s just— ugh I love him. I can’t wait to see how his character progresses and how his relationships change.

Lori Grimes: 9/10. She's an amazing mother. She's an amazing wife. She is a good person who is trying her best. So many people hate on Lori Grimes because she ‘cheated’ with Shane. He was a rebound. If I was in her situation I would do the same. You get told that your husband is dead during the apocalypse, which means he’s DEAD, never coming back, and you’re forced to live in the woods with your only son who only looking up to you in this moment. It is such a devastating situation to be in. You’re mourning and grieving while trying to keep your only son safe in this horrible horrible world and the next best thing to your husband, the closest thing your him, walks up to you to give you comfort, protection and security. Of course she would turn to him. Of course she would sleep with him. I would do the same thing. And the guilt on her face, you know she regrets it so much. She's so kind and sweet and protective. I know it's not gonna be for very long unfortunately but from what we have with Lori Grimes I cannot wait to see her progression in the show a character, as a mother, and as a wife.

Carl Grimes: 10/10. I'm pretty sure I teared up a bit when I first saw him on screen because he's just so little he's just a baby it's just a little baby boy he is so small. My maternal instincts kicked in fucking immediately when I saw him on screen. He's just a little kid and this is what I love about Carl Grimes. He is accurate representation of what happens of what would happen if you put a child in the apocalypse and then them having to go through puberty during the apocalypse. I am so fucking excited to see his character progression. I cannot wait for him to be sassy. I love him mwah.

Shane Walsh: -10/10. I know we need characters like him in these types of media, and I know that he was an important part of the plot, and I KNOW that he is a well written character, but I hate him so much. The only time I want him on screen is when he’s dying. The only time I want to see him open is mouth is when he’s screaming in agony. I hate him. Disgusting filth.

Daryl Dixon: 8/10. He's a very very funny character with a lot of baggage but he’s so loving and caring, just in his own ways. You can really tell that he wants to protect everyone there and that his act is just an act because he can’t admit to loving anyone. He’s a complex character and I like it a lot. Also, the way that people treat him in this season is so horrible. You come back after hunting for the group of people that you have decided you were going to look after and you see this guy rock up and he says “yeah your brother? yeah I left him for dead after I locked him up to a metal pipe on the top of a roof in the sweltering heat surrounded by zombies LOL. I'm Rick Grimes by the way” and people get upset with him getting angry at that? Then, people are saying you shouldn’t go and find him because no one likes him. And then you go after him anyways BECAUSE HES YOUR BROTHER and you find his SEVERED HAND instead. And then you come back and your camp gets attacked by walkers and one of your camp mates get bit, and when you say you should kill him to prevent any pain or suffering, people call you crazy and weird. WTF! Wtaf. Daryl is getting so much hate from them like what. Anyways I love Daryl, I can’t wait to see how his character develops and how his relationships change, and how he adapts to the new environments and people (because we all know what he’s like).

Glenn Rhee: 9/10. Glenn is an amazing guy. He's funny, a bit stupid and has some great lines as well. He's very smart, very valuable and his humanity and compassion is what really makes me love him. He saw a random stranger surrounded by zombies and instead of doing what he was supposed to do he took time out of his mission time out of that situation to save him. What could've very much gotten him killed to help the stranger. And then the stranger comes back and makes him do something that he really doesn't want to do (covering yourself in blood and guts and gore and walking through a street of zombies which could very much kill you in a second is not something he wants to do) but he does it anyways because he does it for the people that he cares about. Then he comes back to camp and the whole ambush happens and they're about to burn one of the camp members bodies and he yells at them and he says “we don't burn our people we bury them”. That line made me so so emotional and it means so much to me that they added that in because it is such an emotional and beautiful line for me. It honestly really highlights him as a character and the humanity and compassion he carries even after everything. I really loved him again. I can't wait to see his character progression, I can't wait to see how his relationships progress as well and how his skills are able to be used in the long run.

Dale: 8/10. I really love him. He’s a great guy doing his very best to try and teach and help the group. He is the word of wisdom, he is the one you look to for guidance. I absolutely adore him. Although, dragging Andrea out of suicide was not great, didn’t like that. Can’t wait to see how he’ll help the group in the future.

Andrea: 6/10. She is a little bit annoying, but she seems quite smart. I don't like how she treats certain people though. Like, I can't explain it but the way she goes about some things just urk me really bad. I think she has a lot of room for improvement, but right now she's okay. I want to see what she can bring to the table though.

Carol: 9/10. BAD ASS BITCH. She is amazing and funny and trying her best. I cannot wait to see her healing process and how her relationships change and how her skills develop. I love her.

T-DOG: 7/10. He's cool, I like him a lot. You can tell that he's trying his best and he has a nice voice. I think he can do a lot of good for the group in the later seasons as we can see that he's already helped quite a bit. Also, his loving and caring nature is really nice to see. Merle called him a racial slur and threatened to hurt him and still he went back to chain the door shut so he could have a chance to survive. He's super cool.

I probably late but I just watch dnd: hat and boy it's sooo great 😭 not to mention finally there's ship that making kicking my feet again

so there's few things I wanna address here which probably already stated by someone else but eh I'll just gonna write it anyway: (watching this completely making me confused all the time but it's in a good way)

Jarnathan actually just random judge they utilize to escape?? ha, I thought it was someone Edgin knows personally

Also the bit where the dragon (?) judge saying they actually accept their plead and the woman screaming jarnathan's name really got me

The dramatic thing where Edgin suddenly throw everything because of his wife's death (it can count as streotypical but idk why I found it interesting how he gonna turns out)

The way Holga helped widowed father with his baby and they practically became siblings and raised Kira with love but of course people still wondering what's their status because they're man and woman

When Forge got escaped and Edgin asked him to take care of his daughter i already suspicious, then Edgin and Holga meet him again later on I thought he was gonna immediately be crazy mf but he act nicely to Kira then he got worse as Forge also manipulating Edgin's daughter to hate his father

When the team got dead end because Simon can't get the helmet to work, I can really feel the desperation (the writing is good)

The way Edgin saying he was Champion of Failure really hurts me oh my god

Oh, I liked how Holga fight scene where she fight without only using her weapon but also other thing surrounds her

Where Simon actually beat himself when about to use the magic helmet again, I didn't expect that actually thinking it was his actual great great grandfather, I also give this one thumbs up for the symbolism and the immediate Edgin gives him proud remarks

When Doric make plans to get into slime cub, I really praise her for that quick thinking by inserting finger out and turning herself into snake to make them escaped

When Holga died and Kira really cried her eyes out and there's flashback where Holga literally raised Kira since she was a little, and she is practically her mother, I'm crying so hard on this. And Edgin finally realized that the mother Kira wants is not Edgin's wife but Holga

Edgin and Holga didn't have romance despite raising child together (good!)

When Holga bite her lips to the little guy who give her medal, i crack up so bad.. she really into that type huh

 I actually glad that Doric take Simon into consideration and not sudden romantic things

Overall, like this movie really consistent about the each characters personality I love that

What're your favorite dramas? What would you recommend to watch?

Ooooh, big question! 

I haven't watched that many dramas compared to other people, but I'd say I know my way around the block. Most of them have been Thai BLs + 2 straight dramas (one of which was a K-Drama, actually) + a GL I'm currently watching aka 23.5

For more lighthearted, wholesome vibes, My School President is the one I'll ALWAYS recommend. It's my favorite, and I think it's perfect to introduce yourself to the world of Thai BL! The music is absolutely great, it's mostly a comedy but there are some touching moments too, and although there IS romance and that's a very important point, I'd say it's more about the main friend group's journey. Their friendship is still the most realistic one I've ever seen in a drama. 

For something more on the spicy™ side of things, Love in the Air is solid. Just... some of the themes are VERY delicate (I'm specifically talking about one of the characters having VERY SEVERE trauma from being in an incredibly abusive relationship + being raped by his boyfriend's friends). 

For something more dramatic, The Eclipse and Moonlight Chicken are very good! They touch on very serious topics, like homophobia, suicide, loss and the mental health struggles that come with it, the treatment of disabled people (in Moonlight Chicken, one of the boys from the secondary couple is deaf, and even though the actor says almost nothing the whole series, he's absolutely PHENOMENAL at making you feel things), growing up in a poor family. The Eclipse in particular made me cry HARD. They DO have happy endings though! I was also watching A Tale of Thousand Stars, which was pretty on theme for this category, but put it on hold and I haven't finished it yet. 

For something more fantasy-like, I've watched Vice Versa and Hotel del Luna. I didn't really like the latter though; even though it started out great and IU is GREAT at her role, it started to drag hard past the midway point and you could tell some scenes were made longer and filmed from EVERY angle just to fill in an hour and a half of episode runtime. I watched the last three episodes on double the speed just to get it over with. 

Vice Versa is pretty good though! I thought the body switching thing would get confusing, but it was surprisingly easy to follow! And, again, there is a big focus on friendship that I always appreciate along with the romance. 

I didn't know where to include this, but I gotta say: Mama Gogo is MAD underrated. 

It's about a former 2000s pop star who left the spotlight after she got pregnant, and now in her 40s, she's kicked her husband out of the house, her daughter hates her, she's to her neck in debt and her job doesn't even remotely pay the bills, not to mention she's constantly being harrassed by debt collectors. Meanwhile, her former bandmate is rich, successful and has her own makeup brand. Things happen and she ends up becoming the manager of male strip club. I know how it may sound (though yes, there IS a lot of fanservice and the actors appear almost naked onscreen A LOT) BUT I SWEAR THAT'S NOT WHY I LIKE IT 😭😭 There are a lot of legitimately funny moments, and when you think everything's gonna be like that BAM, they hit you with the drama: one of the guys is a single dad and when his ex-wife finds out he works as a stripper she tries to get custody of the daughter, another one gets in a VERY weird relationship with an older woman, another has a legit criminal record. I thought the characters were gonna be flat as hell, but BOY, WAS I WRONG. Also, the music is great too. 

So, yeah, I'd say that about covers it! Oh, and if you like GLs, please do watch 23.5! It just started yesterday but it's already the loser lesbian representation I've always craved 😭

i remember reading that part colt talking about his parents but it’s been a while since i’d read that so now seeing what he said about them broke my heart… thanks for reminding me🥲🥲🥲 and he was younger when he said that so he probably grew up thinking he is just their “warrior” child… it’s really sad, honestly.

usually in fiction, characters who goes through traumatic experiences end up also having had a even more traumatic past so one of my favorite things about sith is how much of a normal life y/n led until she was chosen as a candidate (as much as normal an eldian’s life can be). therefore i love reading bits about her “former” life and how it contrasts what is going on currently. her parents, especially her dad, are so normal and reading them struggle to navigate their daughter’s new reality is interesting🤔

friedrich being so smug about colt’s crush got me thinking like does colt know about friedrich’s feelings towards y/n? i can’t believe that i haven’t wondered about this until now?? like i get that colt was jealous after thinking that they ran away together but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he KNOWS that friedrich has feelings for her.

i also think that colt would be a great father😭 isayama did him so dirty. i agree that angst hits harder when it’s balanced with lighter parts! even though i love reading angst so much, i also love reading chapters that build to that angst. we get to connect to the story more, know the characters better, appreciate their relationships and when things go downhill, it makes you even sadder at the end😭😭 btw, 65 chapters causing trauma for the trio… i won’t probably survive that🫠

i CAN’T stand reading stuff that are too poetic. like i physically can’t. i know it sounds dramatic but if you have a good plot in your hands and characters that can drive that plot, why would you make it harder to read that comprehensive work with unnecessary fancy words?? unless it is done for figurative reasons and it has a purpose, i can’t stand reading too “flowery” fiction. but sith is perfectly balanced for me in that sense. you’ve done a great job in my opinion!

btw i’m so sorry if my asks are too long to read🫠 but i enjoy talking about the things i read!

Yes I think he’s always kind of been resigned to the fact that he’s a ticket to safety first and their child second. I don’t think he ever really resented it because that’s what he knows and what he’s used to but seeing how y/n’s parents are with her definitely makes him sad because he realized he kind of missed out

MY FAVORITE THING ABT MR. L/N IS THAT HE’S TRULY JUST SOME GUY 😭 like y/n’s mother has ties to the restorationists and a sad backstory because of her relationship w Colt’s uncle but y/n’s father is truly just a regular person 🥹 he loves his daughter and his wife and nothing would make him happier than sitting by the fire and doing the crossword with y/n while Mrs. L/N reads a book and that’s all really ☹️

And I agree w what you said about y/n’s backstory!! While colt and friedrich didn’t really have any say in signing up for the candidacy program (colt needed to save his family and friedrich needed money for wilhelm) y/n is the poster child for how one choice can completely alter your life. If she hadn’t signed up for the candidacy she ofc never would’ve gone to war and as far as eldians in liberio go she probably would’ve been quite happy! The juxtaposition of her new self and her old life is so tragic because of that and because of how hard it is for her parents to adjust.

HAHAHA I’m going to be honest I can’t remember if I’ve explicitly mentioned in the fic whether colt knows or not so I’m going to go with no but if you see somewhere that colt does know then take that as canon. In my mind rn he definitely suspects it but I don’t think friedrich would tell him — he’s very selfless which is why he’s such a colt x y/n shipper!! he knows that that way he’s the only one who gets hurt and he’s willing to live with that as long as his best friends are happy

I think a balance is key!! I saw an analogy once that if you start with the lights on (aka fluffy or sweet chapters) it’s easy to show a contrast by “turning the lights off” and making it darker (aka angstier) but if you start out dark it’s incredibly difficult to make it darker because like darkness is darkness lol. I think giving characters hope and then taking it away is much more painful for the readers than just grimdark sadness and death all of the time.

I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU’RE SAYING AND AGREE!! I think a lot of the times people try to cover up weaker plot points of characters with fancy words and superfluously flowery writing but it ends up just feeling hollow and shoved in for the sake of it. While it’s important to have varied vocabulary, it should make sense and not be too heavy because that detracts from the story — in my opinion ofc!! I know some people feel differently haha. But I’m glad to hear you think SitH is working well 😊 it means a lot!!

But his children Bazyli and Fiodor (wow how original/s) did it for him,, but basically Bazyli is a piece of shit and a traitor and his brother casually murdered him out of rage when they reunited <3 and since I'm a dramatic bitch he killed him by biting out his heart while he was in his bird form

Also they're of a race that's called Niewidy ,, and Niewidy are like humans but with good resistance for incredibly low temperatures(some of them have ice powers but only those related to Filemon Bazyliusz Żardow-zarykhin because he forced it our from their deity creator known as Blizbor/Brzezdoma) and they can shapeshift Into birds , but the thing is they cannot be seen by other non-niewidy or they'll die (the exception is if they're in life threatening danger but they layer have to be sure noone else will know)

Bazyli is a bitch because ✨ when he was in highschool he was an awesome ballet dancer and on one union olympics he met one really enthusiastic polish journalist Świętosława (and they fell in love obv), then rbeh got married and had son named Franciszek (Bazyli calls him Vostok but it doesn't have any deep lore because this character's first name was just West and then he was morphed into being bazyli's son). And wow they have amazing/s life but then Franciszek tells his parents he's expecting a child with his girlfriend (they're both 17) and Bazyli is deeply unimpressed

And it was in that moment he realised he hates his current life and feels nothing towards his wife,, and then zsrr falls apart and Świętosława is depressed and loses her job and shit happens

So as a good/s husband he sets their house on fire and runs away to The Empire (country ruled by funny fire people that doesn't have a name still) and he's a ,,peace guard,, (violent military police guy), he has a good life there due to his powers and relation to Filemon (Bazyli isn't aware of because Filly left his wife and ran away and they never heard of it,, also Filemon is bazyli's grand grand father).

Bazyli then proceeds to fall in love with rulers of important political organisation Golden Hornets whose surname is Toruyama (they're Yoru's In-laws ) and they live happy polyamorous life of Pensioners /j

But when shit falls apart Fiodor somehow finds his brother and kills him because fuck that bitch

Also fun fact: their mother suffered from schizophrenia and being pregnant only worsened her health and she died while being in psychiatric hospital because of bad treatment,, and Fiodor fell i to addictive tendencies in his early 20s/late teens and his genes came out

but he menaged to get well and found himself a lovely wife Vanka :^^D(she was nurse who took care of him , and she became nurse because her Orphanage was next to a hospital and she was in orphanage because she was in fact Yugoslavian child who was taken away ,, and it causes some issues later in their marriage)

and their theme songs are Powrót and Anhelli by Gintrowski and Прекрасное далеко (that version from that one evangelion AMV but i can't find it😭)

Their story needs so many alterations because I'm still too afraid to sit down and make everything historically accurate but that's a rundown of what happens without bigger elaborating

Also Bazyli is a pagan and his father had heart attack when he saw his necklaces because he thought they were related to German svastika lmao

And bazyli's best friend is this bitch Sjęgnjewa Seler who had religious trauma, killed a guy and run away to forest and now lives as this weird cryptic pseudo witch ,, but she eventually met Blizbor and they're in love because women,,,,,,, and Blizbor is a deity that just travels from forest to forest through the whole Slavic Europe

Also Niewidy are really pale but in inhuman way and they get gray when they tan so they have to be really careful lmao ,, and they came to life because of peace pact Brzezdoma had with Leviathan (one of,,gods,, in this universe) but I won't elaborate
