Battinson: tearing through the streets of Gotham in his Batmobile, narrowly avoiding several crashes, concussed as we speak
Jaime, on the phone, watching from his dorm room at Goth Law: Mamá! Look, I know the news is talking about a serial killer, but it’s okay! I’m perfectly fine— dios mio. I think someone just blew up Wayne Tower. What? NO, I didn’t say anything.

kiss your best friend | ignihyde
Tumblr media Tumblr media
kiss your best friend and see how they react!
parts. one , two , three , four , five , six , seven
characters. idia, ortho
content. gender neutral reader as usual, platonic for the bby, wingman ortho at it again, forgot about this ngl
note. sorry guys idia's part was messy but I mean, I'm just portraying his chaotic feelings ig. I SWEAR ORTHO'S PART MAKES UP FOR IT SINCE HES THE CALMER ONE
damn part six finally hear after almost a year (I'm so sorry help)
Tumblr media
idia
is having the fastest inner monolog you will ever hear in your life, if it was being read out loud that is. could be nominated as rapper of the year with how fast he's blurting out thoughts in his mind.
also probably vocals of the year too with how high pitched, and small in range it is. what a versatile king 🔥
'anywaysitooklike10yearstryingtofindthisitemcausetheysaidtheysawitbutohmygodwhatinthethreehellsishappeningOMGaretheykissingmechatamidreamingOMGimnot??WHAT WARAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA'
to make your life easier 'anyways it took like ten years trying to find this item cause they said they saw it but oh my god what in the three hells is happening OMG are they kissing me chat am I dreaming OMG I'm not??? WHAT *incoherent screeching.'
probably has never kissed anyone besides his body pillows which is just one sided making out so completely forgets his 'lessons on teaching himself how to kiss' and freezes up. comically gets goosebumps and remains frozen even after you pull away.
then starts turning red from feet to head??
he has so many questions that he in fact, does NOT want to ask cause even if it cost his life he can't question you if you guys are dating now cause YOU JUST KISSED HIM SO THAT MEANS YOU BOTH UPGRADE LEVELS.
wait he can't call it friendship level. clearly you're both past level 10 now right?? INTIMACY LEVEL???? HE DOESNT KNOW HES PANICKING.
is too awkward to ask and acts even more awkward as the time is more prolong during the time he's just left wondering what the hell you guys are now cause he's too pussy to do anything without confirmation that you're both duos for life now.
ortho
is the one idia rants to about his predicament right after you part ways.
like, idia doesn't even try to call or contact ortho through the means of technology even if it meant getting to talk faster. he's BOLTING to the dorm with his unathletic ass (with breaks in between.) because the tea he was going to spill was that good.
listens intently and goes :O when idia finally mentions the part where you randomly kiss him out of the blue, by the way only getting to the point after idia spills.. umm.. the wrong thing to be honest, literally retold the whole day until that point.
yeahhhh.. he has the energy atleast.
idia is probably telling ortho about how it meant nothing even though you literally outright kissed him, to the cheek, mouth, or something and he's still gonna say it didn't mean anything.
ortho gotta be the one telling idia to make the move cause no idiot would mistake that for nothing (except idia apparently but he'll have everyone know that his brother is a tech genius!!)
they both do one of those scenes in movies where P1 - idia, is talking to you in real life with an earpiece, and P2 - ortho is said person behind the earpiece. basically the one telling idia what he should do because that guy is too lost for his own good.
"brother move closer!"
"... isn't this too close already though--" <- embarrassed and regretting everything
in the end he did manage to get a label on the two of you, no thanks to HIM and all the thanks to ortho <3
Tumblr media
note. ortho's part just ended up as an extension of idia's part but I always love to include him in everything :') just some behind the scenes on how idia actually got a relationship (ITS ALL ORTHO)
not pr, who prs anyways cries

As Long As We're Together (G/T Homelander x Reader)
2538 words. Hurt/comfort and fluff. Homelander is 8 feet tall. Reader is non-descriptive. Established relationship.
Your anniversary gift exchange doesn't go exactly as planned.
Made as part of the Cozy Corner Domaystic event put together by @cozycornerevents, using prompt #11 "unexpected gifts" and prompt #29 "peace offering".
Tumblr media
It's officially been a month since you and Homelander started dating. Your relationship is still under wraps from the spying eyes at Vought, so the two of you can't celebrate your anniversary publicly. But that won't stop you both from having a special day.
As his personal assistant, you're trailing behind him on the set for 'Dawn of The Seven', making sure he has his lines ready. It's been a pretty busy shoot, and the two of you have not had much time to yourselves.
Eventually, there's a lull in between filming. You're following him as usual, flipping through the script to keep a strict tab on the upcoming scenes, but you are confused when he suddenly halts right in front of his trailer. Looking up at him, you can see a sly grin accompanying a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"Come inside for a second," he smirks, bending down at the waist to whisper into your ear. "I have a surprise for you."
"I can't honey," you mention, pulling your phone out of your pocket and tapping the screen to bring up the current time. "I need to head back to the Tower in 15 minutes, I have a meeting with your marketing team."
Leaning back up to his full height, Homelander stares down at you in disbelief. You so nonchalantly took the ground right out from under him; he wasn't expecting any resistance, especially not on your anniversary. The day he confessed his love for you.
"N-no… no. No. Blow them off, come on," he stutters with a shaky smile, doing his best to regain his composure. "Come."
"I really can't stay," you divulge. "It'll take me at least 10 minutes to make it to the Tower and to the meeting room. Can this wait until I get back?"
Your words cut through him like a knife. All he wanted to do was to prove his devotion to you, and you're refusing him this chance. Your schedules have both been so chaotic today and he doesn't want to wait any longer for his surprise, definitely not until the evening when you're both off work.
"P-please," he mumbles quietly, his voice barely sounding audible. He can't let you leave, not yet.
Despite Homelander standing a menacing eight feet tall and you only reaching his abs, he could not seem any more small to you right now. All you see is a dejected puppy with big glassy eyes, so desperate for a scrap of your undivided attention. With a sigh, you walk up to him and reach for one of his large hands, squeezing your palm around the leather of his glove.
"This won't take longer than 5 minutes?" you ask.
"Of course not," he exclaims with a toothy grin. Your simple question is enough to wash away his fears and recapture his giddy childlike energy from moments ago. "Trust me, you'll love this."
Leading you to the trailer, he opens the door to let you in first so he can watch you spot his gift on the table. Your gasp fills him elation, ravishing in the way your body chemistry changes with delight. Carefully, you climb onto one of the oversized chairs in the dining area to get a closer look at what he got for you.
In the middle of the table is a perfectly designed bouquet, composed of a red rose heart nestled in a cloud of baby's breath. Tucked in between the flowers is a note card, wishing you a happy anniversary. Homelander even signed it himself, with a little heart doodle for you alongside his name.
"Oh hun," you exhale, bringing the flower vase closer to examine them. "These are so beautiful."
As he studies your reaction, he is perplexed as to why you appear to be blinking away tears. Are you upset at his gift? He thought this was a proper anniversary present; in every romantic movie he's ever seen the gentleman always brings his special someone a bouquet of flowers.
"Is something wrong?" he ponders, kneeling down so he can be at your eye-level. You can't help but smile at his face right next to yours, and the dread in his expression over making you cry.
"No, no…" you sniffle as you dry your eyes. "I'm just… I'm just happy. Nobody's ever gotten me flowers before."
"Thank you Homelander," you state, cupping his cheeks right before kissing him. Nearly instantly, he closes his eyes and exhales deeply through his nose as he melts into your affection. He leans more into your lips, softly keening as he chases after the genuine love that he's been searching for his entire life. Your palms petting his face have him entirely enraptured, and the noises of the movie set are long gone from his ears. Right now he feels like he's in heaven with the gentleness of your fingers running along his skin. His massive frame has practically encompassed yours with how close he's getting, but you don't mind. It's something you cherish, letting him forget his size around you.
When you pull away from your kiss, you can see how pleased he is just by the serene sparkles in his blue eyes. He has one hand placed on the back of your chair while the other is resting on your lap, taking up the length of your both your thighs.
"I have to get going now," you remark while you look up at the Vought-branded clock on the trailer wall. Sadly, your five minutes are up. "But I'll be back in an hour."
"Promise you'll come back as soon as you're done?" he asks, furrowing his brows slightly. He's so proud of himself for his gift, and he hates that he has to cut his time with you short now that he's received your gratitude.
"I promise," you respond, giving him one last quick kiss before stepping out of the trailer. You wave him goodbye as you head off, unaware that he is standing solemnly at the window as he continues to watch you with his X-Ray vision even after you've left the movie set.
~~~
You end up running a bit longer than you expected, and are confounded to find that when you finally return to the movie set, Homelander is not there. Ashley tells you that he flew off from the set an hour ago without a word. But you know there's only a few places he'd run off too, and take a taxi back to Vought Tower. As you thought, you find him in his penthouse living room, staring out the window with his arms crossed behind his back. You find it a bit odd when he doesn't acknowledge you, but you enter the room anyway.
"Hey sweetie, there you are! I couldn't find you on the set," you call out cheerily, carrying a small package in your arms. "Why'd you leave?"
"You lied to me," he answers in a blunt tone.
"…What?" you utter, confused to his change in mood.
"You. Lied," he retorts sharply, cutting you off before you can infuriate him any further. He slowly turns around to advance towards you, until you are forced to crane your head straight up to see his scowling face.
"I went by the Tower, to see how your meeting went," he clarifies as he looms his expansive stature over you. "No one had seen you. You were never there."
" Well, I-" you start to say.
"You promised," he snarls, baring his teeth. "You promised me you were different. You promised that you loved me. But you don't. You don't love me. You lied, just like everyone else."
His eyes are wild with fire, not from his lasers but from the torrent of antagonism swarming his mind. He sat alone in his trailer, expecting your return. He waited and waited, until the ticking of the clock and the ringing of his ears became too much for him to handle. He sought solace in his secret companion, his reflection, who was swift to manipulate his anxieties in order to turn him against you.
Throughout your relationship, you've come to understand that Homelander values honesty above anything else. He detests when people lie to him, even moreso when they lie to save themselves from his wrath. You have never lied to him before… until today.
On your anniversary.
Why should he have expected anything less from a human, his reflection goads him. You left him alone, with the present he so thoughtfully picked out for you, going who knows where and doing who knows what. Your kind can't be relied on, not after everything humans have done to him.
You broke his trust, and now he is out for your blood. He is a god that demands sacrifice.
Regardless of his rage, you know he really isn't going to hurt you. Gazing into his furious eyes, you can still discern the lonely little boy buried deep within his psyche. His face is twitching because he's overwhelmed with conflicting emotions. He's mad at you because you made him worry. He's upset because you disappeared; he's scared because he thought he was going to lose you. And you know you that the only way to quell his ire is with the truth.
"Homelander, just… just listen please," you breathe, cautiously planning out your next words as he stares daggers straight through your being. But he does not interrupt, and waits for you to continue.
"Today is our anniversary. This is a momentous event for the both of us," you explain, fiddling with the package tucked into your arm. "I was trying to think of the perfect gift for you, especially when you already have everything. I just… I wanted to get you something special. From the heart… Here."
You lift the box up for him, which he rips from your hands with a scoff. He can't see how a stupid present would somehow make up for what he perceives to be the ultimate betrayal of his trust. However, his irritation at your gesture evaporates the second he lifts the flaps up.
Inside is a small teddy bear, with scruffy and well loved brown fur that smells so intoxicating. It smells like you.
Totally and wholly you.
The box falls unceremoniously from his hands so he can hold onto the plush toy, running his fingers along its pelt. It's so miniscule in his grasp, practically engulfed by his fingers, and yet it feels so much larger. At this moment, it feels like the only thing in the world that matters.
"That was my bear when I was a kid," you detail to him. "I slept with it every night, it meant the world to me. I had to call in some favours to have it taken out of my hometown storage and shipped so fast."
"And now I want you to have it," you smile, walking up to him to place your hand on his thigh. "I know you didn't get to have much of a childhood, so I thought you could share mine."
Whatever anger Homelander was holding onto has completely drained from his body, filling the void with intense sadness. He can't believe he so easily let his reflection turn him against you, when you didn't even do anything. This resentment he felt was for nothing, you were never plotting some nefarious human scheme against him. Instead, you were just at the post office, retrieving your teddy bear for him.
Ever since he's known you, you have always put him first. Nobody has ever treated him with as much care and love as you have.
And now he's blown it.
The tears begin to flow freely down his cheeks as he grapples with his guilt. The constriction in his chest twists a spike deeper into his heart, fearful of what is coming next. You're going to break up with him, he just knows it. You're going to realize he isn't the big tough superhero he claims to be; you'll see him for the insecure child that he really is. Any minute now, the words are coming out of your mouth. It's over, I'm leaving, I hate you, I-
"Hey, hey. It's okay, baby boy, " you say, watching as he spirals deeper into panic. Luckily, your hands pressing into his padded suit are enough to refocus his attention. When his distressed eyes turn down to your face, you spread your arms wide to signal your intentions. "Can you pick me up please?"
With a tense swallow Homelander lifts you up with one arm, holding you close to his chest. Although he does his best to not address you, he can't fight nuzzling into your hands when you start caressing his cheeks. You touch him like he's made of bone china, so delicately, that he can't help pursuing after your affection no matter how upset he feels.
"I am so, so sorry that I lied to you," you console him, wiping away his tears with your thumbs. "I never meant to hurt you. I just wanted this to be a nice surprise, like the flowers you got me."
"S-sorry… s-s-sorry," he whispers timidly as he buries his face into your shoulder in an attempt to hide from his growing shame. However, you don't let him wallow in his irrational worries.
"Sweetpea, you don't have to apologize," you reassure him. "You're entitled to your feelings too, you shouldn't beat yourself up about that."
He doesn't know how to respond to that. During his youth he was never been given any level of autonomy over himself; he was created to serve Vought, so his emotions came second. They always came second, a trivial afterthought to the importance of what he represented to the company. And yet, here you are reminding him of his humanity, of what he had taken from him. You give him encouragement that he is more than just 'The Homelander, leader of The Seven'. Deep down, your words help the isolated little boy see the light shining through his abusive upbringing. He does matter.
"Happy anniversary Homelander," you declare, hugging his big head still snuggled heavily on your shoulder. You comb your fingers through his undercut as you feel him sink further into you. "I know this one might not have gone as well as we hoped, but I know our two month anniversary will be perfect."
"P-promise?" he mutters in a hushed tone, almost as if he's trying to hide his faith in you from his reflection, whom he is concerned might be listening.
"I promise," you assert, giving him a kiss on the top of his head. "From the bottom of my heart, you and I will get through anything as long as we're together."
"T-together…" you hear him mouth weakly to himself. It's a word he's never really thought about before, but hearing it out loud brings a whole new meaning to his life. He's not alone anymore, like he was growing up in the lab. He doesn't have to face his demons all on his own. Now he has you.
And no matter what the world brings, the two of you will always be facing it side by side… together.
▬▬ [𝗘𝗡𝗛𝗬𝗣𝗘𝗡] QUARANTINE W/ YOU
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HEESEUNG, quarantine with him would be the most chill quarantine of your life. the two of you are usually lounging around either watching movies or playing video games. the two of you are occasional bakers which started during quarantine. karaoke and dance competitions would be a thing in the house as well as nap cuddles. quarantine with the two of you is something you both enjoy and you guys get to spend some much-needed time together.
JAY, at the beginning of quarantine, you guys were just how you were before. though when it finally hit you guys that you couldn't go out of the house it was around week 10. though you both didn't say it you guys knew that you both would annoy the living daylights out of each other and that's just what happened. you would always pick on jay for no reason while he ignored you. at one point you guys acted normal which consisted of you guys eating junk food, watching nonstop anime marathons, and online shopping. quarantine for the most part would be nothing but the norm for you two.
JAKE, your quarantine where it would be mostly him trying to encourage you to do fun things with him. around the second week of quarantine, you kind of warmed up to the idea of doing something fun. quarantine with jake would be hella funny because this boy would just have jokes for days. there is no doubt in my mind that you guys will have a talent show and just for the fun of it too. jake is your #1 cheerleader/hype man for just about everything. i feel like jake would have a checklist for all the fun things you guys could do while stuck in the house. layla is with y'all so don't worry about that. with having two chaotic puppies in the house with you for quarantine I'm sure you'll find something to do.
SUNGHOON, sunghoon would try his best to enjoy quarantine with you. yes, I said to try his best. deep late-night conversations because like where y'all gotta go in the morning? staring contests which sunghoon would most definitely win unless you cheat. quarantine is the best time for changes. you decided to change your hairstyle so many times meanwhile sunghoon was just sitting there watching like this 🙂. 24/7 surprise kisses like mans could be watching a movie and you would be right there just to kiss him before going to do whatever it is you were doing. at some point during quarantine, he hid from you just to get peace for himself. but you found him eventually and you guys had a quiet picnic in the backyard. quarantine is soft and cute but please let this man breathe some.
SUNOO, you poor baby. you are going to be struggling during quarantine with sunoo. this boy just won't let you breathe with his sassiness but don't worry you'll be right there keeping the same energy. from day one you guys are clowning one another. at some point he gets tired of it all and just wants to cuddle. cuddling takes up most of the day as he wraps his arms around you and lays his head on your shoulder. big fat cheek kisses become a thing during quarantine also star gazing. disney movie marathons are a must with you two. you going bankrupt from the amount of money spent on takeout. doing his makeup all pretty and having runway shows. a fun and somewhat iconic way to spend quarantine with sunoo.
JUNGWON, now jungwon our precious leader of Enhypen has no problem staying in the house especially since it meant he had you all to himself. quarantine is where the iconic moment where you killed him on among us happened. he didn't speak to you for like a few days after it happened. once he gets over it you guys are back to what you were doing which was either cuddling or making goofy faces at each other because I feel like that is something you guys would do. doing his hair is a must and you bought little hair barrettes and clips for him. blanket forts are a thing, especially ones decorated with fairy lights, comfortable pillows, and tons and i mean tons of snacks. Oh and don't forget about playing animal crossing because that's something you guys do too. but being yourself you trapped him and stole from his little village. quarantine was a time when you gave the poor boy tons of headaches and betrayals but he would do it all over again if he had to.
NIKI, quarantine with mr. nishimura riki would be the most chaotic and yet funniest quarantine ever. you guys would be playing childhood games like marbles, tic tac toe, tag, and hide and seek but during the hide and seek game you would get the jump scare of your life because niki is a menace. cooking should not be something you guys do because of you burned ramen. how do you manage to burn cup ramen?! 🤦🏾‍♀️. niki also telling you ghost stories is a must. during the entire story time you're either like this 🤔 or 😨. pick your side babes. during the entirety of the quarantine, there will be an ongoing prank war happening between you two because that's just what chaotic weirdos do. there would be a brief intermission in the war for you guys to stop and chill. you guys would cuddle and act all cute towards each other before continuing your war. overall quarantine with you two is just simply the most chaotic headassery shit ever.
Claw and Order: Romance Unit
CHAPTER 1: The Doctor Will See You Now
Tumblr media
The small waiting room of Tranquil Health Clinic buzzed with the kind of energy only found in places where people were either nervously anticipating a doctor’s visit or just trying to distract themselves from the possibility of imminent doom. Magazines from two years ago littered the coffee table, a collection of diet tips and home remedies that hadn’t aged well. A tattered, dusty potted plant sat in the corner, as if it had been fighting a losing battle for attention.
In the midst of this chaotic calm sat Emma Turner, a thirty-something writer who had just realized she was dangerously low on inspiration. She tapped her foot nervously, glancing at her watch for the third time in five minutes. A doctor’s appointment wasn’t her idea of a creative breakthrough, but her headache had been persistent for days. At least, she mused, this might provide material for her next novel—a romantic comedy about the perils of modern life.
Her musings were interrupted by the arrival of Wade Wilson, known to some as the “Merc with a Mouth.” Clad in his signature red and black suit, Wade swaggered into the room, practically glowing with an obnoxious charisma that was equal parts charming and infuriating.
“Hey, look! It’s the waiting room for the world’s most boring reality show,” he quipped, plopping down beside her. “I give it a solid 2 out of 10. Needs more explosions.”
Emma shot him a bemused look. “You know this isn’t a movie set, right?”
“Not yet,” he replied, winking. “But I’m thinking of pitching it. How about Waiting Room Warriors? It’ll be a hit!”
Just then, Johnny Storm, a.k.a. the Human Torch, burst in through the door with all the grace of a flaming comet. “Wade! Emma! Sorry I’m late! You wouldn’t believe the traffic. I had to stop and help a cat out of a tree. Seriously, it was like a scene from a cheesy rom-com.”
Wade scoffed. “You? Helping a cat? I’m pretty sure that’s a violation of your cool guy contract.”
“Hey, I can be heroic when I want to be,” Johnny retorted, crossing his arms. “You’ve seen me save the world, right?”
Emma raised an eyebrow. “If by ‘save the world’ you mean setting fire to it half the time, then yes.”
“Touché,” Johnny grinned, taking a seat across from her. “But at least I do it in style. How about you, Emma? Still writing the next great American novel?”
“I’m trying, but inspiration’s a little hard to come by when you’re stuck in a waiting room with Deadpool and a human torch,” she said, motioning to both of them.
Wade’s eyes widened. “So, what you’re saying is you want me to explode something to get your creative juices flowing? I can do that!”
Before she could respond, the door to the examination room swung open, and Dr. Logan Howlett, the clinic’s rather disheveled but undeniably charming physician, stepped out. His hair was a chaotic tumble of dark strands, and his scrubs looked as if they’d seen a few too many late nights. But there was something captivating about him—perhaps it was the way his eyes sparkled with a hint of mischief.
“Emma Turner?” he called, scanning the room until his gaze landed on her. “Come on in. Let’s see what’s going on with that headache of yours.”
Emma stood, her heart racing for reasons she couldn’t quite understand. “Nice to meet you, Dr. Howlett.”
“Please, call me Logan,” he said, offering a warm smile that could melt glaciers. “I promise I’m much more fun than this place suggests.”
As she followed him into the examination room, Wade leaned over to Johnny, whispering conspiratorially. “Think she’s going to fall for him? He’s got that brooding doctor thing down to a science.”
“Only if she’s into the whole ‘mysterious and slightly disheveled’ vibe,” Johnny replied, watching Emma disappear behind the door. “But hey, she could do worse. At least he’s not a total creep.”
Inside the examination room, Emma took a seat on the examination table, suddenly feeling a mix of nervousness and excitement. Logan was now leaning against the counter, a casual ease to his posture that made her feel oddly comfortable.
“So, what seems to be the problem?” he asked, pulling out his stethoscope.
“My head has been pounding for a few days now,” she replied, trying to ignore how handsome he looked in his scrubs. “I thought it might be stress, but honestly, it could just be that I’m surrounded by too many people with questionable life choices.”
Logan chuckled, the sound warm and infectious. “Ah, the perils of modern society. A cure for that is hard to come by, but I can at least help with the headache.” He leaned closer, his brow furrowed in concentration. “Any other symptoms? Nausea? Sensitivity to light?”
“Nope, just a persistent headache and occasional existential dread,” she joked, surprised at her own boldness.
“Classic combo,” he replied with a smirk. “I recommend lots of water, maybe some rest, and if that doesn’t work, I could prescribe something stronger. Or… we could just blow up a waiting room together. Your choice.”
Emma laughed, the tension in her shoulders easing slightly. “Blowing up a waiting room sounds a little extreme, don’t you think?”
“Hey, you only live once, right?” Logan quipped, standing back to assess her. “But in all seriousness, I think you might be a little dehydrated. I’ll get you some water, and let’s see if that helps.”
As he turned to fetch a cup from the sink, Emma found herself captivated by the way he moved, an effortless grace that made her heart race. She’d never been one to crush easily, but something about him stirred something inside her that she hadn’t felt in years.
“Thanks for being so… well, easy to talk to,” she said, surprising herself with her own vulnerability.
Logan paused, looking back at her with a curious smile. “That’s my job. But it’s nice to hear I’m succeeding. Not everyone enjoys talking about their headaches.”
“I’m usually a lot more interesting than this,” she said, waving a hand as if to dismiss her own complaints. “I write romance novels, you know. It’s all about the tension and the build-up.”
“Tension and build-up? Sounds like you’ve got a plot twist waiting to happen,” Logan said, handing her the water. “I bet you could write a compelling story about a patient who falls for their doctor. Might make a nice change from the usual ‘meet-cute’ in a coffee shop.”
Emma raised her eyebrows, her heart skipping a beat. “Are you suggesting I base a character on you?”
“Only if you promise to make me more dashing than I really am,” he said with a playful grin.
“Deal,” she said, unable to suppress her laughter. “But only if you promise to read it when I’m done.”
“Now that’s a deal I can get behind,” he replied, looking into her eyes with an intensity that sent shivers down her spine.
Just then, the door burst open again, revealing Wade and Johnny, who had decided to perform an impromptu check-up of their own. “So, how’s it going in here?” Wade asked, peering over Emma’s shoulder. “Did you find a tumor or is she just being melodramatic?”
Logan rolled his eyes, but the corner of his mouth twitched with amusement. “Just a headache, Wade. Nothing that requires your… unique expertise.”
“Pfft, just a headache? Come on! Where’s the fun in that?” Wade exclaimed. “We should stage an intervention! Emma, do you want me to whip up a batch of my special Deadpool elixir? It’s guaranteed to cure any ailment—or at least make you forget about it for a few hours.”
“Sounds like a plan!” Johnny chimed in. “Plus, it’ll definitely make for some great Instagram content. ‘Writer gets cured by Deadpool’s magic juice!’”
Emma shook her head, unable to contain her laughter. “As tempting as that sounds, I think I’ll stick to the water for now.”
“Boring!” Wade lamented dramatically, throwing his arms up in the air. “I’m starting to think you don’t appreciate my brilliance.”
“Or your questionable taste in ‘cures,’” Emma shot back, feeling more at ease with both Logan and her outrageous friends.
Logan leaned against the counter, crossing his arms with a knowing smile. “I think we all appreciate Wade’s unique charm, even if it’s just for entertainment value.”
As the banter continued, Emma couldn’t help but feel a spark of something special in the air. It was as if the universe had conspired to throw her into a chaotic whirlwind of humor, friendship, and maybe—just maybe—something more.
“So, what do you do for fun, Emma?” Logan asked, his voice drawing her attention back to him.
I write, obviously. But I also like to explore new places, discover hidden gems in the city, and… well, occasionally save cats from trees,” she said with a smirk, recalling Johnny’s earlier story.
“Well, if you ever need a partner in crime for your next
adventure, count me in,” Logan said, his expression sincere.
Emma’s heart fluttered. “I might just take you up on that.”
“Great! We can be like Batman and Robin, only with fewer capes and more coffee,” he replied, chuckling.
“Speaking of coffee,” Wade interjected, leaning in with a conspiratorial glint in his eye. “How about we all grab some after this? I promise I won’t set anything on fire… unless Johnny does it first.”
“Hey!” Johnny protested, throwing his hands up. “I can be responsible! Sometimes.”
Logan raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. “I think I’ll pass on the fire hazard. But coffee sounds good. You’re welcome to join us, Emma, if you’re up for it.”
“Sure! Why not?” she replied, her excitement bubbling. The thought of spending more time with Logan sent a thrill through her.
Wade grinned, rubbing his hands together. “Perfect! The gang’s back together. Now we just need a theme song. Something catchy. How about ‘Eye of the Tiger’? It’s motivational!”
“Or maybe ‘I Will Survive,’” Johnny suggested, a playful smirk on his face. “Because let’s be honest, we’re gonna need it after spending time with you.”
Emma laughed, shaking her head. “You two are impossible.”
As the banter continued, the camaraderie between them made Emma feel at ease. It was refreshing, and for the first time in a while, she found herself forgetting about her headache and simply enjoying the moment.
“Well, Emma,” Logan said, turning his attention back to her. “I’ll just wrap up a quick examination, and then we can get out of here.”
“Sounds good,” she replied, a smile lingering on her lips.
Logan examined her briefly, checking her vitals and nodding in approval. “Everything looks normal. I’ll just jot down a prescription for some pain relief, and you’ll be on your way.”
“Pain relief? Or ‘pain relief’?” Wade asked, waggling his eyebrows suggestively.
“Trust me, it’s the legal kind,” Logan deadpanned, shaking his head. “Though I can’t speak for Wade’s concoctions.”
“Touché!” Wade exclaimed. “But you’re missing out on the fun, Doc. Life’s too short to be serious all the time.”
As Logan handed Emma the prescription, their fingers brushed against each other, sending an unexpected jolt of electricity between them. Emma looked up, caught in his gaze, and for a moment, the world outside faded away.
“Thanks, Logan,” she said softly, her heart racing.
“Anytime, Emma,” he replied, his voice low and genuine.
With a wink, Wade broke the moment. “Well, now that the doctor has made his diagnosis, can we get to the fun part? Coffee and chaos, here we come!”
As they stepped out of the examination room, the energy shifted, the air crackling with possibilities. Emma felt buoyant, her headache momentarily forgotten. She had no idea where this day would lead her, but she was ready for the adventure.
Together, the four of them exited the clinic, the chaotic charm of their friendship promising a day filled with laughter and unexpected moments. Little did Emma know, this was only the beginning of something much bigger than she could have ever imagined.
As they made their way to the café down the street, the laughter and teasing continued, punctuated by Wade’s outrageous antics and Johnny’s flamboyant storytelling. Emma found herself falling into a comfortable rhythm with Logan, stealing glances at him as he interacted with her friends.
“Okay, but for real,” Wade said, stopping abruptly as they reached the café. “Do we order something weird? Like a ‘Wade Wilson Special’? I feel like it needs a special name.”
“Can we just order coffee?” Emma replied, stifling a laugh. “I’m not sure the world is ready for a ‘Wade Wilson Special.’”
“Too late! I already filed the paperwork!” Wade declared dramatically, striking a pose as if he were the star of a one-man show.
Logan chuckled, shaking his head. “Let’s just keep it simple. Coffee, pastries, and no superhero-inspired concoctions, okay?”
Johnny grinned. “What about a ‘Johnny Storm Delight’? That sounds much better!”
Emma rolled her eyes. “You two are impossible.”
As they settled at a table outside, the sun casting a warm glow around them, Emma felt a sense of belonging she hadn’t experienced in a long time. Between the chaos and camaraderie, her heart danced with the thrill of new connections—and the fluttering hope that perhaps there was something more with Logan.
As they waited for their orders, Emma leaned back in her chair, feeling the energy of the moment envelop her. “So, what’s the plan for today? Other than avoiding creating a public disturbance, of course.”
“Adventure!” Wade exclaimed, flinging his arms wide. “We could take over a local park, or maybe we could hunt for the best donut in the city. Or both!”
“I’m in for donuts,” Johnny said, his eyes sparkling. “Count me in!”
Logan chuckled, his gaze shifting to Emma. “What about you? Any preference for our impromptu adventure?”
Emma bit her lip, her mind racing with possibilities. “How about we find the weirdest little spot in the city? You know, the kind of place that feels like it belongs in a story?”
“I love it! A treasure hunt for hidden gems,” Johnny agreed, grinning.
“Then it’s settled,” Logan said, his eyes brightening. “Let’s make some memories.”
As their orders arrived—much to Wade’s delight, who insisted on commandeering the best pastry—Emma felt the warmth of friendship wash over her, mingled with the undeniable spark she felt whenever Logan was near. It was a dizzying mix of excitement and possibility, and for the first time in ages, she felt truly alive.
After a few rounds of banter and some delicious treats, they finished their coffee and set off on their adventure. Emma found herself walking beside Logan, their conversation flowing effortlessly as they exchanged stories of their lives.
“So, tell me about your writing,” Logan asked, genuinely interested. “What do you like to write about?”
Emma hesitated for a moment, then decided to share. “I focus on romance—mostly. I like to explore the messiness of relationships, the quirks that make us who we are. I guess I’m trying to find a bit of magic in the mundane.”
“That’s a beautiful way to look at it,” Logan replied, his tone sincere. “There’s magic in the everyday if you know where to look.”
As they continued to stroll, Emma felt a connection growing between them. The playful teasing from Wade and Johnny faded into the background, leaving her and Logan wrapped in their own little world.
“Okay, I think we need a challenge,” Wade declared, suddenly appearing beside them with a mischievous glint in his eyes. “Let’s see who can find the weirdest spot in the next hour!”
Emma exchanged a glance with Logan, a silent agreement passing between them. “You’re on,” she said, a smile spreading across her face.
With that, the group split up, each taking a different route, all in the name of friendly competition. Emma and Logan wandered through the streets, playfully poking fun at random shops and quirky buildings, their laughter echoing off the brick walls.
“I think we just passed the ‘World’s Largest Ball of Twine,’” Logan joked, glancing back at the nondescript building they had just passed. “Definitely a contender.”
Emma laughed, shaking her head. “We should’ve taken a picture. I bet it would’ve made a great addition to my next book!”
As they turned a corner, a charming little bookstore caught their attention. Its windows were filled with mismatched books and cozy displays. “What about here?” Emma suggested, her eyes lighting up.
“Perfect! Let’s see what treasures await inside,” Logan replied, holding the door open for her.
Inside, the scent of aged paper and the faint sound of a cat purring enveloped them. Emma wandered through the aisles, running her fingers along the spines of the books, her heart swelling with a sense of belonging.
“Do you have a favorite genre?” Logan asked, joining her in the fiction section.
“Romance, of course,” she said, glancing at him. “But I’m also a sucker for thrillers. It’s all about the balance, right?”
“Absolutely,” he replied, his gaze intense. “I think there’s something romantic about danger, don’t you? It adds that extra layer of tension.”
Emma felt her pulse quicken at his words. “Definitely. It’s all about the thrill of the chase.”
Just then, Wade and Johnny burst in, looking triumphant. “You’re not going to believe what we found!” Wade declared, holding up a bizarrely shaped ceramic cat statue. “This beauty is going to be the centerpiece of my collection!”
Johnny rolled his eyes. “That’s not weird; it’s just tacky.”
“Who are you to judge my taste?” Wade shot back. “You’re wearing flame-printed pants!”
Logan and Emma exchanged amused glances, their laughter blending with the playful banter of their friends. “We found a bookstore,” Logan said, motioning to the shelves around them. “What do you think?”
“Bookstores are great, but have you seen this?” Wade exclaimed, waving the cat statue in the air. “It’s a conversation starter!”
Emma couldn’t help but smile at the absurdity of it all. The chaos, the laughter, the camaraderie—it felt like a scene from one of her novels, and she was
living it.
“Okay, okay, let’s make a deal,” Johnny suggested, raising a finger. “We’ll vote on the weirdest item, and the winner gets to choose our next adventure.”
“Fine by me,” Emma replied, excitement bubbling within her.
After a brief deliberation, they all voted, laughter ringing out as they debated the merits of Wade’s cat versus the various oddities they found in the bookstore. In the end, it was Logan’s suggestion to combine their findings into a new, bizarre creation that sealed the deal—Wade’s cat would wear Johnny’s flame pants and Emma’s latest novel would serve as the backdrop.
As the sun began to set, casting a golden hue over the city, Emma felt a sense of joy that she hadn’t expected. This day had turned out to be an unexpected whirlwind of laughter, friendship, and a glimmer of something more with Logan.
As they left the bookstore, Wade announced, “Time for our next adventure! But first, we need to document this for Instagram!”
Logan chuckled. “What’s the plan? A group photo with the weird cat?”
“Absolutely!” Wade declared, his camera already at the ready.
As they all gathered for the photo, Emma found herself standing next to Logan, their shoulders brushing against each other. She could feel the warmth radiating from him, and her heart raced in anticipation.
“Say ‘cheese’!” Wade called out, and they all smiled, capturing the moment forever.
As the photo was taken, Emma couldn’t shake the feeling that this was just the beginning of something wonderful. Surrounded by friends, laughter, and the thrill of new possibilities, she felt alive in a way she hadn’t in years.
With her friends by her side and the charm of the day lingering in the air, Emma couldn’t help but believe that life had a way of leading you exactly where you needed to be. And perhaps, just perhaps, it was leading her to a budding romance with Dr. Logan Howlett.
As they made their way to their next destination, Emma felt a sense of hope blossoming in her heart. The adventure was only just beginning, and she was ready to embrace whatever came next.
end.
Just watched Mutant Mayhem, here are my thoughts!
Tumblr media
Overall: Yes, very good I suggest everyone watch it when they can or I will break your knees :)
I’m going to end up rambling far too much unless I split this properly, so I’m going to break it down into sections starting from what I believe is most important in a movie.
This post is still going to be a mess ngl
Story: 8/10
The story is actually very good! It was paced very well and ended in a very touching way. No character interactions or plot beats felt forced or cliché, and no forced identity politics which is always a plus.
The action scenes - of course they were amazing. Paired with the stellar animation, each action scene was brilliantly directed and choreographed. The start shows the turtles’ origin story is similar to most of the iterations with its own unique factors - in this case the ooze was created by Baxter Stockman.
The conflict of the plot was well written, the final act was great and ends with a hopeful and satisfying ending (there is a mid credit scene that teases something big for the series though!).
If it’s any consolation, it’s also very friendly to new fans of TMNT - I went with someone who has not seen any TMNT media before and they really liked it and understood it easily.
Characters: 9/10
Needless to say, all the characters were very well done. Despite its run time and large cast, each one feels grounded with their own unique personality.
For starters: the four main boys! They were done brilliantly - Mikey being hopeful and optimistic whilst naturally being empathetic, Raph channeling chaotic good energy with his iconic rage personality not being over the top, Donnie being a geek in the best way possible, and Leo trying to be a good leader and anxious, always looking out for his brothers but not a complete teachers pet. All very likeable, and I can’t wait to see them in the series!
Splinter: probably the best since 2003! Openly caring of his sons and worries a great deal about how humans will perceive them. Has his own trauma from his experience with humans so he tries to protect his sons by isolating them completely, but eventually realises that his own view of humans should not affect his son’s happiness and lets them fulfil their dream of trying to be accepted by humans even if he will never like humanity himself. Peak character development, 10/10.
Villain/s: all of them felt fleshed out and I look forward to seeing them in the series! Posed their own genuine threats with varying levels of morals. Again, all were fleshed out quite well and played a role in the story.
April: honestly, she didn’t have too much in it compared to the others but does play a key role in the final act and the ending itself. An interesting iteration of April, curious to see more of her.
Animation: 10000000/10
It was brilliant. What else can I say? Though inspired by Spider-verse it is its own style which is amazing to look at. It thrives in action scenes and landscapes. Another groundbreaking style that I hope to see influence others.
Music: 8/10
It slaps. Almost all of them I will be playing for the next week or so. The soundtracks really set the mood beautifully, especially the sombre track. Paired with the animation - ugh - chefs kiss
Overall Rating: 8/10
I am usually very very harsh with films, so for me to rate anything above a seven is basically unheard of. Probably my favourite movie of 2023, and my favourite TMNT movie. 2003 only just beats it overall but that’s mostly because I’ve known it for longer - who knows, a few more rewatches and it might overtake.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)
9/10
Just let George Miller make whatever Mad Max movies he wants. I will witness it.
A very different beast than Fury Road, this is a sweeping, ambitious, character driven story of vengence and violence. Splitting the story into 5 chapters, each having their own narrative goals, makes the film feel very episodic. However, this structure allows each segment to have a distinct feel, while familiarizing us with the key players and the motivating events in young Furiosa's life that lead her on the path to Fury Road. The themes, visual motifs, and symbols woven through the story create a rich tapestry that, like Fury Road, elevates this beyond action spectacle and into something grand and mythic.
Anya Taylor Joy doesn't actually appear as Furiosa until nearly a third into the movie, but once she does, she commands the screen with a nearly wordless performance, glowering with intense resolve and roiling emotions. This gives the few words she does say more importance and weight. Joy has much more to do with the character here than Charlize Theron, and, while evocative of Theron's version, makes it her own. Alyla Brown as young Furiosa is terrific as well in the first two chapters, also saying very little while using only her eyes and body language to convey feelings.
While many of the Wasteland denizens new and old are portrayed impeccably with that signature manic "Mad Max" energy, it is Chris Hemsworth's Dementus that basically steals the show. Equal parts charismatic and menacing, intimidating yet vulnerable, he provides Furiosa with an interesting antagonist whose motivations are as nebulous and volatile as a desert sandstorm. Hemsworth plays Dementus as a true product of the end of the world: a sad, pitiable, broken man acting the part of a cruel, bombastic leader, allowing himself to be corrupted by the unforgiving reality around him, using humor and eccentricity as a thin veneer over his brutal nihilism.
Much has already been discussed about the film's look. While John Seale's cinematography is missed, Furiosa still contains some terrific and creative shots, particularly during its many action scenes. The wasteland is once again presented using a variety of highly-saturated colors, which is always a refreshing deviation from the typical, washed-out appearance of other post-apocalyptic movies. Yet, the compositing, lighting, and computer effects are a step down from Fury Road, and can be distractingly noticeable at times, especially due to the grander scale of the setpieces requiring more CGI effects and background replacements. But these are relatively minor complaints, as the practical effects involving smashing vehicles and flailing stunt persons are still astonishing to behold. Miller's skill in staging action remains some of the best in the business, as even the most chaotic of sequences remain visually coherent.
While not as laser focused as Fury Road, Furiosa is still an incredible achievement in both character and world-building. It is perhaps one of the best prequels made, as it not only expands what was seen before in a satisfying way, but its added context improves its predecessor.
It is rather odd that Miller chose to include a montage of Fury Road scenes in the end credits... This movie would make a perfect double-feature with Fury Road, except it decides to show you "Fury Road: Cliff Notes edition" right at the end...
The Last Steve Harrington Part 11
AO3 Part 1 Part 10
Steve’s first day at Scoops Ahoy wasn’t as bad as he was expecting it to be… even with the sailor outfit he was forced to wear. His coworker, Eddie Munson, who had started a few weeks before him brought a chaotic but fun energy to the job. The uniform showed off his legs but it was his hands that really caught Steve’s attention. They were beautiful. Long and slim. Almost delicate looking. He painted them, usually black but every now and then there would be a pop of colour. Every finger was decked out with a silver ring, even when he was scooping ice cream which Steve thought must have been annoying but didn’t seem to bother him. Steve knew that he played guitar and he wondered if his fingertips were covered in callouses – wondered what they would feel like against his skin –
– Eds’ hands slipped under his shirt, moving over his hip bones and across his stomach. Gently, softly – like he was afraid Steve would disappear into smoke if he touched him harder. Steve wanted it harder; wished that his fingers would brand him, bruise him, mark him forever. His nails were painted yellow, a colour Steve had never seen him wear before. When Steve had asked him about it, he had replied, “to match you,” in such a way that he thought it should have been obvious –
The house was quiet when Steve went downstairs, he had slept in and it seemed that everyone was already gone for the day. There was still hot coffee in the pot so he poured himself a cup and looked around the kitchen. It wasn’t messy, but it wasn’t clean either. It was lived in – comfortable. Steve set his cup down and opened the fridge. He grabbed out the ingredients to make an omelet and set them on the counter. He looked at them for a long moment before putting it all back in the fridge and taking out the milk instead. He grabbed a bowl out of the cupboard and poured himself some Cheerios. Maybe tomorrow he would make an omelet.
He was chewing on his cereal and looking out the window when he saw Will, Mike, Lucas, and Dustin roll up on their bikes. They threw them down onto the yard and climbed the front steps. The front door opened and they came barreling into the kitchen like a pack of wild hyenas.
“Hey, Steve!” Dustin exclaimed happily when he saw him.
Steve’s mouth was full so he grunted in reply.
The boys whirled around him, opening the fridge and the cupboards looking for easy snacks. Dustin sat down at the table and stared at him until he started to feel a little uncomfortable. A bug under a microscope didn’t get this much laser focused attention. But he was smiling his big Dustin smile and Steve couldn’t help but smile back.
He swallowed his cheerios and asked, “where are the girls?”
Dustin’s smile got wider. “It’s boys’ day, Steve.”
Steve blinked at him, waiting for more of an explanation. If Dustin was trying to communicate with him telepathically, he wasn’t picking up on the wavelength.
“Jesus,” Mike said from behind him. “Do you want to hang out with us later? We’re going over to Eddie’s for movies when he gets off work.”
“We do it every other Friday. No girls allowed for the whole day,” Will said happily.
“You gotta come!” Lucas urged.
“Sure,” Steve said. “Sounds like fun.”
Dustin whooped, Lucas and Will smiled and Mike rolled his eyes. They scampered out as quickly as they came, snacks stuffed into their pockets. Steve watched through the window as they took off on their bikes and smiled. He finished his cheerios and washed the bowl in the sink before taking his coffee outside. He sat down on the porch swing and sipped it slowly, enjoying the quiet morning and the summer breeze.
---
The boys came back after dinner, Steve had no idea whose poor house had to suffer them all through a meal. They were all on the lawn, waiting for Eddie to come get them. He had his backpack slung over his shoulder just in case he ended up staying over again.
The wind had picked up as the sun was setting, casting everything in a warm orange glow. A strong gust blew Dustin’s hat off his head. He chased after it as the boys laughed. He was smacking the dirt off it against his leg when Steve reached over and ruffled his hair. The action caused Dustin to freeze for a moment before he turned and grinned up at him. Steve smiled back and bumped his shoulder into the younger boys. It was starting to feel better, easier… being around them. The bitter part of his bittersweet feelings was melting into something he couldn’t name. Something closer to peace than the resignation he had felt for so long.
Eddie arrived shortly later, windows down and music blaring. Once again, the boys clambered into the back seats, leaving shot gun for Steve.
“Hey Eddie,’ Steve said as he hopped into the van.
“Steve.” Eddie nodded to him and turned the music down so it could be heard but wouldn’t hurt Steve’s head. The ride over to the trailer park was still a bit noisy with the boys in the back talking loudly over each other. Eddie drummed his hands on the steering wheel and bobbed his head to the radio.
“How was work?” Steve asked.
“Shop was busy, lots of people who refuse to change their oil and ruin their engines.”
“Lots of idiots who don’t know how to take care of their cars,” Steve said, lamenting the loss of his beamer.
Eddie snorted. “I would have around 60% less of a job if people took care of their cars properly.”
“What’s the other 40%?”
Eddie looked over at him with a grin. “Idiots who don’t know how to drive.”
Steve laughed and Eddie turned back to the road, still smiling. Steve tried not to stare at his dimples from the corner of his eye and failed miserably. They made their way to the trailer park quickly and the boys hopped out before Eddie finished parking the van. Pushing and shoving each other, they all fought to get inside Eddie’s trailer first. Will and Dustin did their best but it was Lucas and Mike who made it to the door first. At the last second, Lucas managed to shove Mike out of the way and slipped inside.
“Is there a spot they’re fighting for?” Steve asked as Eddie came around the other side of the van.
Eddie nodded. “Wayne’s chair. Best seat in the house. Reclines all the way back.”
“I’m surprised you haven’t claimed it for these movie nights, it’s your place after all.”
“I can never sit down long enough to claim it for the whole night. I’ll steal it for a little bit though.”
Sure enough, when Steve got in the trailer, Lucas was sitting in the recliner like a king. The couch was big enough for three, which meant some of them were going to have to get comfortable on the floor. Eddie must have brought out pillows and blankets out before he picked them up and Will was already piling them in front of the couch, making a comfortable spot to lay down on. The table that was in front of the couch the other time Steve visited was pushed off to the side so they could still use it but wouldn’t be in the way of the people on the floor.
“Your horror movie education continues tonight my young pupils,” Eddie said as he looked around the room. “And Steve.”
Steve wiggled his fingers at him.
“Your choices are: The Thing, The Fly, or The Exorcist!” Eddie said in an exaggerated game show host voice.
“I sense a theme here,” Steve said dryly.
“Shush you, let them pick.”
Immediately the boys started arguing and yelling over each other. Steve let it go on for a minute, hoping that they would come to some kind of an agreement on their own. Eddie seemed content to watch them yell, but it wasn’t going to get them anywhere and it was starting to hurt his head.
“Jesus, one at a time! Dustin, which one?”
“The Exorcist!”
“Mike.”
“The Thing.”
“Lucas.”
“The fly.”
All eyes turned to Will. Deal breaker time.
“Will?”
Will’s eyes flitted around the room before coming back to Steve.
“The Thing,” he said blushing the tiniest bit when Mike jumped up and down, cheering.
Eddie clapped his hands loudly. “An excellent decision!”
Steve went to sit on the couch, he was still recovering and there was no way he was going to spend the night on the floor. He took the far corner and Dustin immediately came and sat beside him. Mike and Will settled on the floor. Eddie popped the tape into the VHS player and then claimed the vacant spot on the other side of Dustin. Seemed his generosity didn’t extend to him sitting on the floor of his own trailer. Dustin looked at Steve and then over at Eddie, a beaming smile on his face as the opening trailers started playing.
Everyone settled in as the movie played, the light from the television screen dancing on their faces. Steve liked The Thing; the special effects were great and Kurt Russell was hot. Eddie got up from the couch shortly after the start of the movie to grab beers for himself and Steve.
“Where’s mine?” Lucas asked with a cheeky grin.
“There’s soda in the fridge if you’re willing to lose your seat, Sinclair,” Eddie said as he sat back down.
Lucas grumbled but didn’t get up.
Steve sipped his beer and enjoyed the movie. Most of the time the boys were quiet, Dustin spoke every now and then with a little fact about the production or practical effects. Eddie constantly got up to get drinks or make popcorn. He had a restless energy, even when he was sitting his legs were jiggling or his fingers were spinning his rings. Eds had been the same, but where Eddie used his rings to release some of his pent-up energy, Eds had used Steve. He had played with his hands, ran his fingers through his hair, tugged at his clothes.
Steve felt Eddie’s presence like gravity – an inescapable pull. He found it difficult to watch the movie when all he wanted to do was watch him. As much as they had in common, Eddie and Eds were two very different people – and it fascinated him how that could possibly be. Steve didn’t know much about Eddie’s past but he couldn’t imagine it being that different from Eds’. So, it was the same as him and Other Steve – Something in the past few years caused a divergence in their universes.
That wasn’t to say that there weren’t things about them that were similar – frighteningly and beautifully similar… Steve eye’s drifted over to where Eddie’s fingers were tapping a beat against his knee, his rings glinted in the flickering light and his nails had chipped black polish –
A scream from the movie shook him from his thoughts and he re-focused on the television, ignoring the pull from his eyes to look in a different direction.
The night was still young when the credits rolled across the screen, so they decided to watch another movie. They took a break, so everyone could stretch a little and use the bathroom. Lucas got up from the recliner to get a drink and promptly lost it to Mike.
“What was your Eddie like anyway? Was he like me?” Eddie asked after he shoved a handful of popcorn into his face.
For the first time Steve saw the question as an opportunity and not an attack. A wicked grin crept across his face.
“Eds was great, really friendly and popular – more popular than I was! Captain of the baseball team, too.”
Eddie looked positively horrified and Dustin stared at him with his mouth wide open in shock. Lucas blinked at him from the kitchen and Will and Mike traded confounded looks between them. Their complete and utter shock was one of the best things Steve had ever seen.
He let the silent horror build for a moment before he blinked at them, acting confused. “Were you not captain of the baseball team?”
Eddie sputtered, trying to chew and swallow his popcorn quickly so he could answer but ended up choking on it instead.
“No!” Dustin screamed so incredulously that Steve burst out laughing.
True – gut aching, tears in his eyes, full bodied – laughter.
“Got you!” he said as he wiped his eyes.
“What the hell, Steve?” Lucas yelled.
Steve just kept laughing gleefully.
When he finally calmed down and glanced around the room the other boys were all looking at him with soft expressions.
“Good one, Steve,” Eddie said with a matching grin.
“I knew Eds a lot longer than I’ve known you but from what I’ve seen so far, you two are pretty similar.” Steve paused and looked straight at Eddie. “Huge nerds with a rough exterior but damn big hearts.”
Eddie pulled his hair in front of his face and looked away.
Steve stood up and stretched, rolling his shoulders a little as he made his way to the bathroom. He closed the door but not before he heard an incredulous, “captain of the baseball team, my ass” from Eddie followed by more laughter. Steve smiled. He relieved himself and washed his hands before patting some cool water onto his cheeks and the back of his neck. It was warm in the trailer with so many bodies.
The last time he was here had been a bad night – but even so, it was a place that he was already starting to have fond memories of. Robin and Eddie had worried about him, had gone out in the darkness to find him, to make sure he was alright. And they didn’t try to make it better but instead kept him company. He learned more about Robin and shared a bit of himself. It had been warm then, too – but Steve hadn’t had such a good night’s sleep in a long, long time, tangled up in Robin’s legs and Eddie’s familiar scent all around him.
When he went back to the other room everyone was getting settled back down. Mike was in the recliner, Dustin and Lucas were trying to get comfortable on the floor, and Will was in the middle of the couch, chatting with Eddie who was sitting beside him. Steve’s spot was still open on his other side so he made his way over.
When he sat down Eddie went to get up, probably to change the tape and start the next movie but he ended up tripping over the carpet and falling hard into the table, knocking the bowl of popcorn off.
“Jesus, rolled a ‘nat’ one on that dexterity check, Eddie,” Steve said.
The room seemed to freeze around him and everyone slowly turned to look at him.
“What did you just say?” Dustin asked, pure shock on his face.
Steve was confused. “It was a D&D joke. You do play D&D right?”
“Do we play D&D?” Dustin spluttered. “Of course we do! Do you!?”
“With Eds as a boyfriend and all of you gremlins as my friends you think I could get away with not playing? Not a chance.”
“You play D&D!?” Dustin screamed.
“Eddie was your boyfriend?” Will yelled.
Mike made a gagging noise.
Lucas stared at him, wide eyed.
Steve wasn’t sure which fact was more shocking to them – him playing D&D or him dating Eddie.
“I play a half-orc half human barbarian named Chuggington, but his friends call him Chug.” He paused before answering the other question, unsure of how they would take it. “And yeah, me and Eds were dating.”
The room went silent again as the boys stared at him. Steve was afraid to look at Eddie, who had gone preternaturally still in his peripheral vision.
The silent moment ended abruptly when Dustin threw himself at Steve. “This is so awesome,” he said excitedly, “we tried to get Steve to play for years! Eddie, Will – you gotta write a campaign for us!”
Will blinked back, still a little wide eyed. “Sure, Dustin.”
Eddie didn’t say anything, just went over to the door and slipped outside. Steve tried to tell himself that it didn’t hurt.
He wasn’t very convincing.
“I should – I’m gunna go talk to him. Give us a minute, yeah?”
The boys nodded and watched him with heavy eyes as he went to the door. It was dark outside, the lamps in the trailer park doing little. Eddie sat on the steps, a lit cigarette hanging loosely in one hand. Steve went to sit down beside him.
“You didn’t tell them?” Steve asked.
“I didn’t know,” Eddie replied softly.
Steve reached into his shirt and took out Eds’ necklace. “This didn’t give it away?”
Eddie looked at it for a long moment before he met Steve’s eyes.
“I knew he must have cared about you, but not how much. I guess I couldn’t wrap my head around a universe where Steve Harrington was with Eddie Munson.”
“There was at least one,” Steve said with a small smile. He didn’t understand what was so crazy about it, being with Eds was the easiest thing he ever did. “Sorry if I made things weird.”
Eddie sighed. “Things have been weird for a long time, Steve.”
He didn’t know what to say to that understatement so he sat quietly, looking up at the stars. Eddie cleared his throat and Steve looked over to him holding out his cigarette to him. He stared at the hand, the long and delicate fingers, the chipped nail polish, the silver rings – and for some reason he felt like he might cry. He swallowed the feeling and took the cigarette, brought it to his lips and inhaled.
“So… you’re? – ” Eddie left the question hanging.
“Bisexual,” Steve answered, passing the cigarette back.
“Cool, cool,” Eddie said looking away and taking a drag. Steve was curious about Eddie’s sexuality but he wasn’t going to push him on it. If Other Steve was straight in this universe, Eddie could be too. He hoped Eddie would want to talk about it, but the truth was… they still weren’t that close.
Yet.
But they were getting there, Steve hoped.
They traded the cigarette back and forth until it was spent. Eddie leaned down and reached for the ash tray that was on the bottom of the stairs and stubbed it out.
“Why is there a steak knife in your sock?”
Steve looked down at his leg, the handle of the knife was peaking out. He tucked it back in slowly, careful not to cut himself on it.
“It feels better – safer, when I have a weapon. I have my bat at home but I didn’t want to bring it with me, so I went with something smaller, easier to conceal. Sorry… I must sound nuts.”
Eddie laughed and turned to him. “Not at all, Steve. Not at all.”
Steve smiled back and then gestured to the trailer behind him. “Should we head back in? Who knows what they’re up to in there.”
Eddie laughed again and nodded. “Yeah, let’s head back in.”
They know that Eds and Steve were together! Woohoo
would love more matty fluff!! maybe surprising him on tour? or moving in with him? something cute/domestic?
This one has allusions to sex but nothing too graphic or smutty. Also, snuck in a reference to one of my favourite movies ever ;)
Tumblr media
Move-in Day
The sun is barely peeking above the horizon at this early in the morning. Yet you are wide awake and ready for the day. A thrum of excitement passes through you as you check the time on your phone.
6:15 am
Matty will be here in about an hour and you just can’t keep still anymore. It’s the day you’ve both been waiting for.
It’s move-in day!
Your room is almost empty, all you have to do is pack up the futon you slept on last night and fold the blankets. The rest of the apartment is also in a similar state of emptiness and your living room is neatly arranged with several big cardboard boxes.
At 7 a.m. on the dot, your boyfriend of 8 months arrives with coffee for both of you. The first thing he does is grab your waist and give you a long, sweet kiss.
‘Good Morning, darling,’ he mumbles against your lips and pulls back to look at you.
In his vintage jeans and jumper, he looks like the perfect soft boy. What’s more, he’s practically bouncing on his heels with excitement. It’s palpable really—his energy, his laughter, it’s all infectious.
The packers and movers are scheduled to come in the next 10-15 minutes so you simply sit on the floor and enjoy your coffee.
‘I’m so happy, Matty,’ you confess.
‘I’m ecstatic,’ he replies.
It’s all a flurry of activity after that. The movers help you load the boxes into the truck—there aren't many to begin with. His house is on the other side of the city but at this time of the day, there’s barely any traffic. You both follow the truck in his car, help the people bring the boxes in and thank them when they’re done. Once the door closes, he hugs you from behind and rests his chin on your shoulder. And it doesn’t take you long to realise that standing there with Matty between piles of boxes might be the happiest you’ve ever been.
As always his playlist is chaotic. One moment, you’re swaying along to some Cigarettes After Sex and the next he’s wiggling his butt to Cardi B. You make sure to snap several videos of these moments as he mimics throwing a lasso at you.
‘Are you going to use that as blackmail material?’ he asks.
‘No, these are just for my personal viewing pleasure,’ you throw him a cheeky wink.
‘Mm, pervert,’ he laughs and then yelps when you chuck a pillow at him.
It doesn’t take a lot for both of you to get distracted multiple times. He’s astounded by the sheer amount of signed books you own. He has to make you sit down and ask about each of the signings you’ve been to. Then he spots Joan Didion in the collection and it somehow morphs into a discussion about living in California during the 60s (it would be your La Belle Époque, you both agree).
You end up in a tickle fight when you disagree about some trivial thing. The living room is filled with the sound of your shrieks and giggles as his fingers dig into the soft curves of your stomach and yours trace his neck as he shivers in delight. That, in turn, morphs into you making out in the kitchen as he makes you sit on the counter and moves to stand between your legs. He’s like a man starved as he presses kisses down your neck, runs his hands up your ribs. You can’t get enough of him, his smiles, his breathy moans.
But then the bell rings and the spell is broken. He curses, tries to hide his very obvious boner and runs to the door. Two minutes later, he comes back with boxes of pizza. You grab some cold beer from the fridge in the meantime. The food makes you sluggish and sleepy but Matty is apparently a bottomless pit of energy today.
It’s only when you give him the sleepiest puppy eyes and a pout that he pulls you into his chest and asks you if you want to take a nap. The answer is yes, of course, but then you look around you and see all the unopened and half-opened boxes. He notices your gaze and immediately makes you look at him.
‘Don’t worry about them, this is your house now and they are not the boss of you,’ he declares.
It makes the butterflies in your stomach go crazy. He’s right, it is your house now. The idea might take some getting used to but the sheer excitement is there.
‘Alright then,’ you beam up at him, ‘I’m going to take a nap in my bed.’
‘We are going to take a nap in our bed,’ he corrects and whisks you away.
Writing Obi-Wan I got an amazing ask that has prompted your Pal to go on several rants so I’m breaking it into parts for readability.
An anon new to writing fanfic asked about characterizing Obi-Wan. They asked about his most important traits to include to really nail his characterization and most importantly:
"In particular, I'm confused about reconciling the (chaotic, dramatic, 10/10) Clone Wars happenings with the way he appears in some other stories (more, well, civilized)."
Well anon: ask and you shall receive. Find your pal’s beginner's thesis below, keeping in mind that there are many others in the fandom who are way more accomplished authors who are much better about characterization in their own works and are way more qualified to speak to this. I'm going to do my best!
I love this ask! Characterization is so important in fan fic as we take familiar characters in place them into different scenarios that we haven’t seen how they react and respond to, and yet want it to feel authentic. The best is when you read a chapter and think of course that’s how Obi-Wan would deal with this.
The first part to nailing characterization is voice. Not even the motivation aspects behind “he would not fucking say that” but I literally ask myself: can I imagine the character’s voice actually saying these things? If I can’t hear Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan in my mind speaking the lines of dialogue I’ve written, I know it’s not right. This isn’t something specific I could give you a How To on, it’s 100% based on vibe and feel, BUT. Listen to the dialogue in the movies/tcw/kenobi series. The words he uses, his cadence, his tone. Even if he's being written in an alternate universe speaking about something that canon Obi-Wan has never experienced, and never will, it should still *sound* like him. If I had to summarize his voice: civilized yes, and more mature or refined than Anakin’s speech patterns, but with the ever present threat of sass. Underlying almost everything he says is a sense of I can and will destroy you if you piss me off, so tread lightly.
That brings me to your point of reconciling the different parts of Obi-Wan. There’s a line in Stover’s novelization of Revenge of the Sith which (I'm paraphrasing) says: he’s a Jedi Master who deep down still feels like a padawan. To me, this is why he can be the cool, calm logical Jedi Master one moment and then impulsively launching himself out of windows to hang from a speeding droid the next.
He is the expert of Fake it Till You Make It. He was suddenly thrust into all these roles of responsibility before he was prepared for them, but has taken them on and is Doing His Best. He literally went from being a padawan to having a padawan overnight. He had no time to experience being responsible for himself before he was responsible for someone else. He’s the youngest member on the council and despite, you know, not being trained in the military he is like The Highest Ranking Jedi and in command of a frighteningly huge portion of the GAR. He *is* incredibly competent and good at what he does, but he feels like its a role he's acting. He is playing the part of the wise Jedi, modeling himself after everyone he respects and looks up to and thinks is doing a better job than himself, when a lot of times his personal instinct isn't to react with measured patience but rather Yeet! or Read This Bitch!
Always remember: this man contains multitudes. There is no One Right take on his personality. That’s why he’s so fun to write! And also why there’s so many different versions of Obi-Wan in fan fic, and yet most are able to feel right if they hit the voice. Authors lean into the different sides of Obi-Wan they want to bring out. Some are more into his Big Dick Energy, being a BAMF, having the answers, and being in control General Kenobi. Some relate to the more the anxious padawan desperate to prove himself. Some see the man tossing back shots in the Outlander and think to themselves “this ho has slept with half of Coruscant”. Any and all of these can feel true to the character when done from a place of love and understanding for our main man Obi-Wan Kenobi
Rings of Power: Episode 3 - Adar
Rewatch mini review. Chaotic and out of order.
Southlands: Arondir's plotline is the strongest here. It's straightforward (something this series sometimes struggles with) and impactful. The orcs are cruel, intimidating, and intriguing. I love their costumes and prosthetics. And this series actually did a better job at showcasing their aversion to sunlight than the films ever did.
I love the scene with Arondir and the tree, and Revion's line: "It has earned its place in these lands!" This series really is at its strongest when it slows down for visual storytelling and focused character moments. And the action at the end of this episode is well done and creative.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The other plotlines are where this episode becomes a little weaker.
Harfoots/Harfeet: I love the Harfoots, but I understand why other people don't. They kind of distract from what's essentially the "real plot" of the first season. And their rules about leaving people behind, while I think it makes sense in context, does come off as overly cruel and could have been toned down a bit while still keeping the conflict.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Numenor: Speaking of toned down, Galadriel, who I also love, does come off as overly confrontational for the sake of conflict in this episode. In a way, it reminds me of what was done with Faramir in the movies. I understand why they did it, but they didn't have to go as far as they did. I think the hatred for Galadriel in this series is completely overblown though. She does end up showing humility and compassion when she slows down and allows herself to think.
Her harshness is clearly meant to be seen as wrong and not her true self. "Nothing is evil in the beginning." One of this season's major themes is darkness of the heart and soul, and that no one is immune to its corruption. Could it have been executed better? Yes. But there's intention behind it that becomes more obvious if you pay attention to the rest of the story.
The whole Numenor plotline is the one that gets a little convoluted. The mark of Sauron/map of Mordor, the sigil of the King of the Southlands, Halbrand being a "low man", the rather vague estrangement between the Numenoreans and the elves, the king exiled in his own kingdom, the guilds of Numenor, Isildur's pull to the Western shores, the judgement of the Valar, the significance of Elrond's brother…
It's all just so much. I have no trouble following it, but it still feels overwhelming. Hearing that this was originally supposed to be a 10 episode series makes sense. Numenor really should have gotten its own episode to help slow things down, or maybe we just need an extended cut. It's practically unheard of in the world of television, but it's a worthy Lord of the Rings tradition.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall, I still love the episode, mostly due to the characters and the themes that prevail despite the plotlines going in too many directions. Halbrand's charm is fun, and the darker side of his personality is intriguing (whether or not you know the final outcome). Nori and Poppy are just a delight in general. Elendil was perfectly cast. Isildur gives off a youthful carefree energy while also having a subtle calm intelligence to him. Galadriel is stubborn and rather bitter, but cracks in her hardened shell begin to show when she's in her element and at ease. Arondir is a gentle soul rather than just being a skilled fighter. They're all great.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This whole season ends up being about the dangers of mistrust and making assumptions. And while this episode goes a little too far in places, it still works for me.
RE: Taylor & Nick's chemistry
Quotes from interviews on #RWRBMovie about Taylor & Nick's chemistry
This post will be updated as content is released
Click here for the other roundups
Notice something missing? Here's my inbox
Last updated: August 8
From Wonderland Magazine
"I was cast before Taylor and Matthew Lopez, our director, and Amazon really put me through the wringer, as I had to do a bunch of chemistry reads with a few different guys. Again it was all about finding commonality. Taylor came in and smashed it, he's so funny and charismatic and willing to play. He's become such a good mate of mine and we had such a fun time filming this movie."
From Entertainment Weekly
What wasn't hard? Finding chemistry with Perez. "We have the same sense of humor," says Galitzine. "We're both idiots in some way. We speak the same language as people. It was a different chemistry. Finding the levity and the light in each other, finding a sense of play in the scenes. Because you want them to have that banter that back and forth, that zippy dialogue."
From Glamour
“They were a dream come true,” López says of working with Zakhar Perez and Galitzine. “Taylor and Nick have an astonishing chemistry together. You could see it from their first audition together. They genuinely liked and trusted each other from the start. And individually they each take these characters and make them their own. I cannot imagine any other actor playing these roles, and I haven’t from the moment I first met them.”
“Nick and I hit it off right away,” says Zakhar Perez. "We had our chemistry read on Zoom, and then we went straight into rehearsals on day one. We didn't even have a lunch or a, ‘Hi, nice to meet you.’ We just had to trust each other.” Adds Galitzine, “Taylor and I have this level of insincerity with each other. We have this public [banter] with each other, but privately we're really, really close mates. That's kind of Alex and Henry in a lot of ways, negging each other and pushing each other's buttons. Taylor and I spoke the same language, had the same humor. You need to have a partner in crime to embody these roles, and I think it's so palpable when costars don't have the chemistry [that we do.]”
From People
About how he and Galitzine, 28, built the chemistry fans will see onscreen, Perez says, "It all comes down to trust with your scene partner, and we immediately had it. There had to be a level of vulnerability between us, and we quickly found our way into it." "We were lucky to have rehearsals and many meals together before we began our first day of filming," he adds. "We both knew we had a lot on our shoulders, given the success of the book, and that was a big motivation for us to be locked in at all times."
From GQ
When auditioning for their roles, Galitzine read with other prospective Alexes, never quite finding a rhythm. But when they met over Zoom for a chemistry read, it was instant fireworks. Director Matthew López noticed their spooky chemistry right away. When the actors first got together in person to rehearse, López recalls leaving them alone. “I came back about 10 minutes later and they were the best of friends already,” he says. “It was like they had known each other all their lives.” On and off set, the pair would bond by turning every little thing into a low-stakes contest: competing over silly minutiae like who’s really taller (“Alex is supposed to be shorter in the book, and then this little shit comes in at six foot two!” Galitzine says) or who could finish their scene in the fewest takes.
Up close and in person they are waves of chaotic energy bouncing off each other. (“It is kinda like water when we’re together,” Zakhar Perez says.) They tease each other relentlessly. They push each other. They finish each other’s sentences and bicker like an old married couple. Wind them up and off they go. “I don’t like Nick,” Zakhar Perez jokes. “But I respect him.” “Mine’s the other way!” Galitzine counters. “I don’t respect your game, but I do like you very much.”
From Out Smart Magazine
Looking back fondly, he jokes, “I didn’t have to manufacture chemistry between Nick and Taylor. My biggest problem on set was getting them to shut up and do the scene.”
From What to Watch
"We knew that we would not have a movie until we had our — I was about to say “until we had our Taylor and Nick”! — until we had our Alex and Henry. In all honesty, I don’t know if we would have ended up making the movie if we felt like we were compromising on the casting, because you get that wrong and you just don’t have a film. So it took months of searching, particularly for Alex, because I wasn’t at all certain who was going to be out there for this role, and as a Puerto Rican filmmaker I was acutely aware of the opportunity to cast this role in a way that was gonna sort of bring a new name and a new face to the public. To my delight there were a lot of young Latin men out there who auditioned for the role and it was so exciting to go through all their tapes. [The leads] both emerged singularly, and then the big trick was to see if they would work together as a couple." "I knew that both Taylor and Nick were perfectly cast as their roles, but what I wasn’t sure of until I put them in a chemistry read was ‘would they play well together?’ The nightmare scenario for me was finding two perfect actors for the role who did not gel at all together — so the degree to which this could have gone wrong for me, with the casting, was just stratospheric, and the fact that it went so well in terms of finding the right people for the roles who were also just the right people for each other was a lucky break that came at the end of a very long process! [laughs]" "And I didn’t have to teach them that! They possessed that from the beginning. I mean, we worked hard on their performances together but what was innate from the moment they first met was they got each other, and they got along so well together, and they played so incredibly well together."
From Hindustan Times
A dream! I love those two so much. You are lucky if you get one of them working at that level, and to get both of them working at such a high level, and so astonishingly well together is just a great, great hit of luck. The thing is that they are both so perfectly cast individually but the most important thing is that we cast two people who worked well together as a team. The moment from which they first met on Zoom, they had such tremendous chemistry. We rehearsed several weeks before we started filming and then over the course of rehearsals and then the film, there became a real shorthand between them. They trusted them and I was able to then, in many instances, direct them less as individuals and direct them as a team. They worked as a team and that is exactly what you need from a film like this. I genuinely cannot imagine this film with two other actors in it. In many ways, they made this film possible for me to make. The evidence of that is on-screen every time they are together even when they are not together, it is there.
From The Queer Review
"I really wanted Taylor and Nick to have a good solid chunk of time together, working together and understanding one another, coming to trust one another and figuring out how they each work. It was less about rehearsing like you would for a play and more about acclimatizing. I guess you could liken it to getting new goldfish and putting them in a plastic bag and then putting them in the water before you let them out into the general goldfish population!” “I needed those two to problem-solve together. I needed those two to have lunches together and talk about their nights when they saw each other in the morning. I needed a familiarity that I didn’t want to leave to chance on the first day on set when everybody’s a little tight, everybody’s a little nervous, nobody knows each other and everybody’s figuring each other out. You had a filmmaker who’d never done this before and the last thing I wanted was for Taylor and Nick to start to get to know each other then because I think that would have been too late.”
From Attitude
Responding to these criticisms López told Attitude exclusively: “Anybody who criticises their chemistry doesn’t know what chemistry is.” He continued by praising Galitzine and Zakhar Perez as “trusting” and “respectful” of one another and their approaches to acting. “They gave room to each other to breathe and grow. I don’t think you can make a movie like this with two actors who don’t trust each other. You might be able to, but I don’t know if it would work. Those two from the very beginning made a decision to trust each other and to support each other.” Away from the serious side of acting, López also told Attitude that they all had fun on set. Occasionally, he explained, he had to be the one to calm the fun so they could shoot. “But those two are wonderful human beings,” López also added. “And I loved working with them. And I know that they took their jobs incredibly seriously. But, we made sure that we never took ourselves too seriously.”
From TV & Satellite Week
López was acutely aware that the key to the film’s success would be in casting lead actors with credible chemistry, and he was delighted that Zakhar Perez and Galitzine sparked together instantly. ‘The nightmare scenario for me was finding two perfect actors who did not gel at all,’ says López. ‘But what was innate from the moment Taylor and Nick first met was that they played so incredibly well together.’ The two leads were equally keen to make their characters’ relationship evolve believably.
From CineMagna
Nick: It's been such a joy working with Taylor, and I really couldn't have imagined anyone better suited to play Alex. I think the most important thing in casting Alex was to find someone who could really go tête-à-tête with me and with Henry. This film is a two-hander and it's all about the chemistry and the banter that you could have between the two of them. Taylor, he's such a fun, loving person, such a joy to be around, and so much of the filming process for me is about finding an acting partner who just loves being here as much as I do. I can't say enough good things about him.
Taylor: Working with Nick has been excellent, we've gone through a lot. You know, we got here a couple weeks early for rehearsals. It's a very intimate movie so we had to become close very fast and kind of trust each other right away, and we did. It wasn't hard, it was really just committing to the text and trusting our director Matthew. And it's just, it's great working with him because I think we have a really good banter on and off screen which helps our characters when we are acting together. But I mean, we get in a lot of trouble, like we really do. We get yelled at by our first AD, Ben a lot, and Matthew tells us to calm down. Just because as soon as you're out of a scene, you're like, critiquing each other, critiquing yourself, and I think we're each other's biggest supports in the room. We both care so much, I know he cares, I know I care, and we just want to make the best product possible.
From The Fresno Bee
That chemistry sparked when the two met via Zoom for a script reading. “It took a long time to find them, but it was very obvious that they were our guys.”
Hello, you requested someone asking for your Swiss and Aeon HCs so here I am! Please, tell me all of them, I love reading headcanons for the ghouls
AHHHH OMG i swear every time someone asks me something that i know i know i forget immediately every time 😭
but also hiiiii! idk who u are cuz i've had a LOT of people pop up in my notes these past few days but like, hello!! :3
these definitely aren't all the ones i have bc these literally pop into my mind randomly throughout the day
also this is super long 😭
but uhmmm here u go :D
swiss stuff:
he's actually much more of a cat person than a dog person (he still likes dogs tho)
and like, don't get me wrong- he loves cats in general
but he loves the chaotic, crack head, stupid ones especially
they match his energy and he thinks they're super cute
i feel like he (along with mountain) were the types as kits to bring in random animals like raccoons, opossums, etc and then just carry it around
like bring the animals to [the] papa[s] and just be like "look what i caught! can we keep him?!"
he has a red lava lamp that he once got for christmas from sodo in his room but it doesn't work right bc he shook it up
as a kit, he used to google different ways to prank people and he'd go on chaos sprees (commonly joined by dew as well)
poor rain suffered the most of his antics
he wasn't really close with any of the ghouls or ghoulettes specifically when he was new to them
he still isn't
he loves all equally, even if the others aren't the same way
peed in a sink once when he was high + drunk
mountain's personal bedroom bathroom sink specifically
whenever he sees babies, he smiles big (it scares them sometimes)
used to have a major biting problem when he was younger
copia got him oral fidget toys
literally knawed on that shit constantly
likes the feeling of chewing rubber
has a very broad music taste
phantom/aeon stuff:
when he was newer and needed ppl around to make sure he wouldn't get himself in any kind of trouble, all of the ghouls and papa were busy
so they left him with the ghoulettes
and they all watched mean girls together
he genuinely really liked the movie
but he was really easily spooked when he was first summoned
so the part when regina george got hit with the bus jump scared him
secretly related to that one character who didn't go to the school in that scene in the gymnasium (i hope this is specific enough)
thinks liz gillies is super pretty
also has a very wide music taste
he and swiss have a playlist they made together on spotify of songs they like and it's so much shit mixed together it feels like a fever dream when u listen to it in order
has eaten bananas with peels on them a multitude of times
doesn't like oranges or limes
love lemons tho
once drank a thing of lemon juice in less under 10 minutes cuz he was bored
got sick asf
doesn't like headphones
he thinks they're too big so he prefers earbuds (wireless or wired doesn't matter to him)
had to get help from rain trying to figure out how bluetooth works
ended up teaching copia later
dew once dared him to drink two shot glasses worth of a mixture of hot sauce, mayo, peanut butter, and pickle juice for 20 monopoly dollars and phantom did it bc he thought it was real money
he doesn't mind most vegetables but he hates squash and zucchini, canned italian green beans, frozen carrots (he thinks they're soggy), and canned spinach
loves cranberries and cranberry flavored things
as well as pomegranate
isn't the biggest fan of cherries but loves the ones u get in jars for cheesecake toppings
bagel enjoyer
hates raisins
hates oatmeal
has thrown up numerous times after drinking cherry cough syrup
anywaysssss that's all i have for now :3
also i'm really sorry :( i know a lot of these are more like scenarios than HCs (i hope u still enjoyed tho!)
Episode one done, that was so good 😭
The intro is 1000/10, already know I'll be stuck in my head. And thw imagery of the two worlds ala Dante's Inferno... 👌
I like James MacAvoy as Asriel, he is an asshole but charming enough, as he should be, and I like he puts that chaotic scholar energy to him. Though I'm still a little hung up on the regal air Daniel Craig gave the character on the 2007 movie ngl.
Dafne Keen is doing a fantastic job as Lyra too, I love her energy, she very much feels like a real child, I'm excited to see more of her.
I feel like I'm appreciating all the political and scientific drama much more as an adult, I got chills when Asriel made his presentation. The history of science, the great explorers, the fantasy of the distant northern lands, the power play of the great institutions, this is chilling, man. And with the steampunk and fantasy elements?
Gods, I forgot how delicious this story is.
What are your thoughts on rotg Pitch black and the other characters?
Thank you for your question! I enjoyed sitting down and writing this out. My initial response was “They are Awesome! I adore them and drawing them brings me joy!” But I decided to go more in depth!
Please note these are just my personal opinions, as of May 2023. I judged everyone on three categories: Character, Design, and Drawability.
Nicholas Saint North
My Opinion on his Character: 10/10.
How could anyone not love this guy. He has infectious energy and is one of my all time favorite versions of Santa. I both enjoy his character in the books and the film. I love how he is a strong leader with a big heart who isn’t afraid to stand up for what he believes in. He is so cool and I love his competitive nature.
My Opinion on his Design: 10/10
North’s design is so full of geometric genius. I love how square he is. I also love all the Russian elements like the coat and hat. This is one cool Santa. I adore the tattoos and the swords he wields. I also like his younger self, very pirate adventure vibes.
My Opinion on his Drawability: 8/10
As much as I love this guy he is sometimes a bit hard to draw. He has a lot of tattoos and a large coats and a beard that covers a lot. I need to practice drawing him more. It is a bit fun to draw him in more exaggerated styles, but I definitely need more practice.
E. Aster Bunnymund
My Opinion on his Character: 7/10
Bunny probably scores the lowest on my favorite character scale. I adore movie bunny but book bunny kind of ruins the experience… he is so snooty and his rants get a little tiresome to read. I also don’t personally vibe with the whole alien backstory. I would of preferred him to be an actual bunny. More fantasy less sci-fi. I do love the drama he brings to the group. He is always first to speak up and question things as opposed to just going with whatever plan was proposed.
My Opinion on his Design: 9/10
Both book and movie designs have something different and unique to offer. I adore them both. I love the book bunny little glasses and long robes and staffs. I love movie bunny more tribal warrior rabbit look. Both designs do well capturing a unique look for the Easter Bunny.
My Opinion on his Drawability: 4/10
Bunny may have a great design for me he is extremely hard to draw. I don’t know how to draw animals too good (yet haha). Especially if it’s not stylized for a goofy doodle. He has a lot of elements I need to still learn. Like fur and animal proportions. Sorry bunny maybe in the future I will be better.
Toothiana
My Opinion on her Character: 10/10
I love this fairy so much. She is so adorable and responsible and is a true guardian. Her book backstory is one of the saddest things I’ve read in children’s media and although she put up walls becoming a sort of workaholic she still finds joy and excitement.
My Opinion on her Design: 10/10
She is what I want to think of when people mention a fairy. Not a shrunken down human with wings but something that would exist in nature. Something you wouldn’t bat an eye if you saw. I love the hummingbird design. I love her feathers and her face/eye shape. I just adore her.
My Opinion on her Drawability: 9/10
I do adore her design so much and I love drawing it too. It’s so relaxing drawing all the feathers. I do have a bit of trouble with the wings but I love drawing tooth. She has such a fun color pallet.
Sandman
My Opinion on his Character: 10/10
Sandman is so cool. I love how sassy and laid back he is. I love how he is a friend of the world but is chaotic enough to threaten to knock out a child with his bare fists. He is one of the few characters I don’t mind having a fake out death scene. He steals the show. Also his mermaid sand island should of made it into the film. We got to see everyone else’s homes.
My Opinion on his Design: 9/10
Oh I adore his design. It reminds me of the rankin-bass stop motion designs. He is so adorable and shaped like a star you can hug. I love how he appears to actually be made of dream-sand.
My Opinion on his Drawability: 9/10
Sandy is so fun to draw. I think his design works great in both 2D and 3D. I love giving him goofy expressions.
Jack Frost
My Opinion on his Character 10/10
Jack is an amazing and complex character. He is mischievous and childish he is yet wears his heart on his sleeve. He has this haunted sadness that lingers through him and yet always tries to get others to have fun. I love how much he cares for people despite putting off the cool loner persona. He will do anything to protect the kids, despite being a kid himself!
My Opinion on his Design 7/10
Jacks design is cool but I feel like it needs something. I understand his current look is supposed to be relatable teen but I feel like it’s missing something to help him blend further into the world. I love his outfit as a human. And nightlights armor is neat but I feel like Jack needs just something more then just a hoodie? Just a personal taste thing… I do see what they were going for.
My Opinion on his Drawability 10/10
Jack is so easy and fun to draw. I like drawing him in new outfits and styles. He is also fun drawing as his nightlight book self. Overall a really fun character to doodle and stylize. Especially since there is this constant movement to him.
Pitch Black
My Opinion on his Character 10/10
An amazing villain with a tragic past. I love how cunning he is yet is pretty blind by his own greed. I love how much joy he gets from spreading fear. I love the arrogance to his character and how he gets playful when trying to manipulate and or fight someone. A great villain who enjoys being evil. There is that element of longing for a family to him that is probably left behind from his days as Kozmotis which adds a good amount of drama to play with.
My Opinion on his design 9/10
While the guardians are complex and maximalist in there design pitch is sleek and minimalistic. His pirate aesthetic from the books are cool and his movie design has him move seamlessly in the shadows. I adore his face shape and demeanor. Overall a great simple design that brings contrast to a colorful cast.
My Opinion on his Drawability 10/10
Although simple Pitch is pretty fun to give added design elements too. Especially gold based accents. He is fun to draw in different outfits as well since he doesn’t have a lot to his design. It’s always fun to color him when I’m done drawing the others who have larger color palettes.
Note
kind of random (and sorry this is'nt a request but) who are your TOP 10 favorite characters in any form of media???
10??? do i even know that much???
(and media's a book, movie, etc, right? i hope? anyway, based on what i think media is, here's my list. not in order. also am i supposed to put why?)
aiden clark <- school bus graveyard (which i guess is kinda obvious). anyway, aiden's one of my favorite because of his goofy attitude. even though he's usually/mostly seen as the 'joker' of the group, i love how much depth he has as character (and he also has a lot of angst writing possibilities :D)
tamaki suoh <- ouran high school host club (current pfp hehe). he's such a silly billy, and he really cares for haruhi even though his actions can be a bit overwhelming/over the top sometimes. he also respects haruhi's boundaries (like in the last episode) and cares for his friends (the homosexual supporting cast lol) too
haruhi fujioka <- ouran high school host club (be warned, some of this list is just going to include the ohshc cast ajsnwansnam). she's beautiful, she's smart, she's funny. she also knows what she wants, what she doesn't want, etc. her character design is so simple yet pretty, which i also love
hikaru/kaoru hitachiin <- ouran high school host club (idk if they count as 2 people but i'm putting them in one category). i love their goofy sibling energy (when they're not entertaining in the club) and how protective and caring they are of each other. they're also one of my favorite chaotic duos lol
kyoka jiro <- my hero academia. i love her energy, her aesthetic, etc etc. she's such a pretty character, even though her quirk can be seen as not as powerful as some of the other students. she was also one of my first favorite characters
lizzie hearts <- ever after high. i think she was one of my favorites because i had an obsession with the queen of hearts/wonderland after reading Heartless by Marissa Meyers (i think?). i also love her accent, and her design, and she's such a cutie patootie
leo valdez <- heroes of olympus/riordanverse (dam i almost forgot about him T-T). anyway, similar to aiden, even though he jokes a lot in the books/similar stuff, people somtimes mischaracterize him. he also has a lot of character depth. i also think he gives babygurl energy lol
xyx <- blooming panic. i love his energy throughout the game, all his trolling and jokes, etc. he just adds the funny energy to the game/server. his character design is cute/simple, his accent is also pretty nice, and he's also babygurl coded (imo). he also has a cat, which is why he's my favorite
rozy <- the guy upstairs. she is such a smart female main character. even though some of her actions are rash because she sometimes panics/overthinks when thinking about helping her friend, hawa. she's independent and brave, but also a bit flawed, which is why she's such an awesome and realistic character
kang dae <- to the stars and back. he's such a supporting boyfriend to bo seon, and is always caring for him even though he didn't like him in the beginning lol. he respects bo seon's boundaries, and makes sure not to pressure him or anything. he's also a really kind and funny character
