ever since someone mentioned how iconic honey lemon from bh6 i haven't?? been able?? to get it out of my head??

for people who don't know, there's a series for bh6 (titled big hero six the series woop woop!!) and one of the episodes was centric around honey lemon also being a girl in!! the arts!! she attends the san fransokyo art institute (sfai) and had her art w the gang hung up in the visual arts gallery

the san fransokyo institute of technology and the san fransokyo art institute ARE rival schools, but honey lemon just still. loves exploring both fields and her friends are crazy supportive of her (in the end the rival thing is also just for funsies and it's honestly such a fun episode) i just think it is SO COOL that FOR ONE !! she's a woman in stem who wears feminine clothing + heels despite already being tall + HAS INCREDIBLE FASHION SENSE + is a genuinely good person and is TWO !! also heavily involved in the arts LIKE BRO IDK ABOUT YOU but i think it's a really good message for kids (but honestly everyone) to know that they don't have to pick one specific route to follow + can pursue what they love

High School AU head canons based off a ongoing RP:

•Natsu's dad has been stationed in Japan since he was 5. Now, he's 14, and after 3 separate times, he's been promised his dad would come home, and it is not happening. He hates when people apologize and doesn't mean it

•Exceeds is a "kids cartoon" that Natsu is REALLY into and has been...might be his hyperfixation tbh

•Natsu finds ways to talk to people more by making plans to continue topics/conversations later

•Natsu has a snacking habit that got really bad around 7th-8th grade

•Natsu helped her find her class, accidentally took his schedule, he hunted her down & embarrassed her in class, then saw him at lunch and they became best friends.

•Laxus is an alumni, and the principal's grandson

•Laxus did theater freshman year and ruled with an iron fist

•He had 2 senior pranks: wrapping hid grandfather's car around the flag pole and another thing where the whole school thought they were gonna die..but no one talks about it.

•He's a psychology major and comes back to visit for paper inspiration, specifically visits the theater department

•The rest of Thunder Legion are as followed: Freed is a senior who is tech crew stage manager, Evergreen is a junior who runs costumes, and Bickslow (named Naji cause we gave him a name) is also a junior and he runs lights + walks the catwalk alot cause he likes the height and vantage point. They all take theater still cause they're lil nerds and liked it.

If you don’t mind can I ask what the backstory and extra scene for contrarian as a scarlet hallow town resident is I’m curious

ofc!!! thank you so much for asking, actually, I was just worrying whether it's a bit too self-indulgent to even post oakskskskssjjs (ridiculous, I know, but my brain can be pretty ridiculous at times)

SO!!

Contra is a local whose parents died in some accident (maybe something to do with the mines) when they were very young, and they kept running off every time someone tried to deliver them to child services.

Eventually, Duke took pity on this kid who keeps stealing from the diner and from squirrels in the forest and took them in. They weren't the easiest kid to deal with, but Duke's stubborn and was intent on teaching this kid some manners and how to survive on their own since no one else's willing to help them out.

cue some bonding and genuine family moments together with Bo and Duke's wife, and Contra goes from purposely difficult troublemaker to mildly annoying helper.

fast-forward to Pearlenne's death and a week away from her funeral, in comes Hiro Scarlet, Tabitha's lost cousin.

They adopted the name 'Contrarian' cuz it's what the townsfolk kept calling them all the time; but I think they could eventually reveal to Hiro that their name is 'Mikha' (was supposed to be Mikhael (or maybe 'Mickaelle', no one is sure what their agab was anymore), but the computer must've either eaten the last bit, or the doctor simply forgor).

When heading to town from the state, you can hear a flute being played somewhere deeper in the forest. And if you decide to follow it, you get to meet the town troublemaker themself :D

some more notes about their relationship with other townsfolk

– Stella: was often the 'cryptid' she was hunting for her videos, which kinda became a staple of her channel that sometimes the cryptid is just a scrawny fella playing a prank on her. Stella takes it all in stride, and even compliments Contra on their inventiveness and creativity, often telling them they could get big by making their own pranks channel (which they often reply with, "Nah. Too much work :p"). Contra was a tad bit frustrated when Stella incidentally embarrassed Duke on her channel, and then continuously refuses to take his word seriously; actually stopped pranking her for her channel because of that, which Stella just thinks it's them trying to give her and her viewers a sense of security before striking.

– Kaneeka: she's glad they got a home in the Holler, and all, but they're not exactly friendly. Polite, at best, as she still resents all the pranks they'd play on their school (when they didn't even go there themself!!!), and how they would always enable Stella's reckless stunts, and are doing the same now to Miles, who thinks they're so much cooler than any of the other young adults here. Not as much of a beef as she has with Tabitha, but would still rather to avoid their path and that they did the same to her.

– Oscar: never really crossed paths all that much, as they rarely went to the library, but did see them occasionally stop by to pet Pixel or on their way to do some delivery for Duke. Sure, sometimes their pranks go a little too far, but they can't be all that bad, right?

– Avery: as soon as Avery learned of another enby in this rural southern town, they immediately went to pay Duke's farm a visit, where they found Contra hanging from a tree pretending to be sentinel. They quickly bonded and started hanging out, and even dated for a couple of months before the novelty just kinda faded away, so they broke it off before resentment could build and continued on as friends. Contra still goes to the diner every so often to hear Avery's new synths and is a frequent appearance in their parties.

– Reese: one reckless and impulsive friend in her son's life is more than enough, so Doctor Kelly always tried to keep Contra from getting too close. Which only made them more intent on befriending Reese even after they got 'sick'. They eventually just lost interest tho, as staying in someone's room while they're too weak to move is pretty boring (and depressing), so they just kinda forgot about him and didn't look back. The Doc see it as a blessing.

– Tabitha: "Who the hell is that?" (despite their carefree and careless attitude, they stay clear from the mines)

Seriously besides Momo and Okarun reminding me of Kurata and Hiro, I didn't think I would get the same feelings from reading Dandadan that I had while reading Kono oto Tomare. Like they are on opposite ends of the spectrum of premises. Kono oto Tomare is a heartwarming youth centric story about music, while Dandadan is...I mean how do you even begin to describe it?

I guess it's the friendship as found family vibes for me, as well as the absolutely tearjerking back stories. Who knew I would cry in a manga about aliens, ghosts, and golden balls.

Why did the zodiac curse break?

One of the many mysteries of Fruits Basket is why did the curses break the way they did? Why was Kureno freed without any effort and Rin (who worked so hard for it to break) saved for the last moment? Well, thats kinda complicated.

Even before Kureno’s curse broke, he’s always been more closed off from the other members besides Akito. His animal form being a sparrow instead of a rooster exemplifies this. So his bond was weak to begin with. The straw that broke the curses back however, was when Akito wanted to see him fly. And so he did exactly as she asked, but not in the way either of them expected.

Next is Momiji. The zodiac member who’s probably the most comfortable with his animal spirit, the rabbit. This is shown by him wearing things just bc they’re cute (see: him wearing a girls uniform but with shorts). At least, thats how it looks on the outside. As we know, his curse is why he can’t have a loving family or even interact with them. And it separates him from his love, Tohru. No matter how many times he expresses his affection for her, she still sees him as a little kid. This is shown by him eagerly hugging her every chance he gets even tho he knows he’ll turn into a rabbit. He’ll never be able to embrace her as himself. But then he gets his growth spurt. Momiji was tired of being the cute little rabbit, and now he finally gets to be a man. This is shown by him wearing a boys uniform and being more forward with Tohru. And this is what breaks it. Momiji puts someone else above the Zodiac, above God, and that combined with him rejecting his little rabbit personality and wanting to grow up, to move forward, breaks his curse.

Now, if putting someone above Akito was all it took to break the curse, then why didn’t the others break when they fell in love with someone? Simple, they still put Akito first. Whether it was hiding their relationship to keep Akito happy, asking her permission for their marriage, or just letting her know that they loved someone, they considered Akito’s feelings before their beloved. Momiji is one of the few to directly stand up to Akito to defend the one he loved, taking a punch from her and going to get help when Tohru was by herself. The others stood by (unwillingly) bc they feared Akito’s wrath and the repercussions it may have on Tohru and themselves. His curse didn’t break right then tho because deep down, he felt guilty for wanting to put Tohru above Akito in importance. The God still had a hold on him. His growth spurt gave him the confidence to move forward without Akito and the zodiac, even if Tohru wouldn’t be by his side.

The last one we’ll talk about is Hiro. The zodiac member who doesn’t seem to match with his animal, the sheep, until you take a closer look. When we think of sheep, we think of an animal who’ll follow its leader without question. And Hiro doesn’t follow any external leader, in fact he refuses to take anybody seriously, complaining constantly and utilizing sarcasm in the most infuriating ways possible. But in reality, he follows one thing without question: his ego. No matter whats going on he will find a way to belittle someone in an attempt to make himself superior, unless you’re Kisa or his parents. Later on he realizes how childish this is, and tries to stop, and his attitude gets sorta better. But then, his little sister was born. This fast tracks his character growth, as now he has someone who will look to him for guidance, and he found within himself the desire to be an older brother, to protect her. Once again, putting someone else over the Zodiac and Akito combined with wanting to move forward and grow broke the curse. This couldn’t have happened with Kisa, since she’s a member of the Zodiac, and since the curse allows them to hug each other regardless of gender, we can infer that the curse has no issue with romantic relationships happening within the Zodiac. Akito was the one who had issues with it (for obvious reasons).

Finally, everyone else’s curses broke bc Akito gave them the freedom to move forward and grow:)

So, what we have learned is that the method in which to break the zodiac curse, is either the God giving the animals freedom, or the animals putting somebody else over their God and moving forward in life without them. Thank you for reading my rambling, and have a nice day/night<3

i really love the idea of takaaki helping hiroko investigate and find the other captives (because he's the first one she sends a rescue team to look for. so it's safe to assume that he's the first one to be brought to the base. also. just let me indulge in the detective takaaki ishimaru dream.). just cuz it's fun to imagine the ways they'll work together.

takaaki thinks about and approaches the situation like he's in a classic detective noir film. hiroko does like she's in buddy cop, rom com flick. both are aware that the other is thinking that way, and that's why they're working so well together.

Been thinking about Hiro and Nike, but specifically about Nike and how she winds up copiloting with Hiro

And I realized if I ever do get around to their one shot, it's gonna be incredibly painful. Not because of any physical violence in it but because Nike's entire thing was that she lacked self awareness so she'd accidentally be annoying or embarrassing.

She'd get super excited over Kaiju, which in story is like being a big fan of bugs in a place where many people hate them and would crush one without hesitation.

And she winded up having her old friend group distance themselves from her because she struggled somewhat with social cues and was still kind of childish while everyone else was relatively more mature. So she was infantilized in their heads and was seen more like the kid they'd have to babysit.

Which meant they left her out of a lot of stuff sometimes just because they didn't want to deal with her.

So the pain of the one shot REALLY comes from readers having to deal with potential second hand embarrassment and Nike taking brutal L after L before she befriends Hiro and starts getting Ws.

cross is a huge fucking crybaby. like he’s almost always on the verge of tears and i feel like that gets scrubbed out in most fandom spaces to make him the “stoic, emotionless and goal-driven solider” for the story. like im not trying to be mean for pointing out the mischaracterization but it is undoubtedly present. like it would make sense for someone that experienced what cross has (losing his family, getting manipulated by his former best friend’s sibling, realizing your abusive father was GOD, etc.)

i havent seen it in a while but the earlier cross ship content i’ve indulged in usually portrayed cross as either this baby that cant take care of himself without his partner or as this almost obsessive protector that was only really himself around them. (not sure if im wording this right bro 😓💔) but what im getting at is that just didnt Feel like cross. i understand the appeal and everything but im just 💔💔
