Megaton Musashi W: Wired ‘Megarobo Batroseum’ update launches in November - Gematsu

LEVEL-5 will release a major update for Megaton Muashi W: Wired in November, which adds the new “Megarobo Batroseum,” as well as famous pilots Koji Kabuto from Mazinger Z., Ryoma Nagare from Getter Robo, and Duke Fleed from UFO Robot Grendizer, the company announced.

“For Megaton Musashi W: Wired, we’re getting ready to release significant new content,” LEVEL-5 president and CEO Akihiro Hino said during today’s LEVEL-5 Vision 2024: To the World’s Children event. “Until now, you had to enhance your Rogues to battle online. In the new mode, the ‘Megarobo Batroseum,’ you can just select a Rogue and jump straight into battle. In other words, you can join player-versus-player as easy as in a fighting game. Some famous pilots will also enter the fray, making the heated super-robot battles even more exciting. The new Batroseum Mode is set to release in November 2024. Please look forward to it!”

Megaton Musashi W: Wired is available now for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam.

Okita Ikuo (沖田郁雄) is the great-great-grandson of Okita Mitsu. He actually really looks like that famous composite photo commonly mistaken for Souji 😅

According to this article, he’s the current head of the Okita family. His father was Okita Tetsuya (沖田哲也), a scholar of public administration, emeritus professor at the Faculty of Political Science and Economics at Meiji University, and Director of the Center for lnternational Programs (1, 2) focusing on Canadian Studies, who passed away in November 2000 (obituary).

From a quick Google search, according to Linkedin, Okita Ikuo works as a private secretary at the House of Councillors. After seeing other photos of him on his Instagram and Facebook, I think he kind of looks like these 2 possible photos of Okita Souji 😅

Here's what I learned from his tweets about the Shinsengumi:

He donated a photo of Okita Mitsu to the Shinsengumi Hometown History Museum in Hino. (source). “I wondered if I could have sent Mitsu back to her hometown. I don't really know if Hino was her true hometown, but at least she returned to the place where she spent time with Souji.” (source)

“According to the scraps of lore passed down in the Okita family. Mitsu liked to gather people and have banquets. As a descendant of the Shinsengumi, he is deeply offended by the presence of Yasukuni shrine [T/N: this is the WW2 war criminal shrine, also enshrined members of the anti-Shogunate side who died during the Bakumatsu] for insulting and defaming the Shinsengumi. He believes State Shintoism is the pinnacle of cowardice for taking advantage of the fact that ordinary people would not sue (source). He would never visit Yasukuni because he’s a descendant of the opposing side, he’s Christian, he believes it would be better to thank those who had a higher mortality rate than the soldiers, such as transport crews, and he couldn’t forgive the suicide attackers. tsubasa ozora is a kid who’s wanted to be the top hero in the world for a very long time after he was rescued by a hero-in-training when he was a toddler. he and his family move to nankatsu, which is known as the home of honshu academy of heroics. it’s split into two departments, shutetsu and nankatsu, which are the heroics and general education departments respectively.

genzo wakabayashi is the top student in the shutetsu dept and is renowned for his quirk. tsubasa becomes the only person to have ever defeated him, and thusly the two became friends and rivals.

Calendars Are Legit - Kamen Riders

Not too long ago, a tabloid ran an article questioning the legitimacy of the non-profit calendars that known and suspected Kamen Riders have been selling. Detective Kiriko Tomari and Head Nurse Asuna Karino confirm the legitimacy of the calendars.

Detective Tomari has claimed ownership of the calendar idea. She had noticed how a lot of people seemed to stare at her husband and she had even caught some of them licking their lips. She then decided to use the act, which she would have been reasonably upset about, and use it as a means of helping more people.

"The help that Kamen Riders give shouldn't only be limited to fighting monsters." Eiji Hino, one of the rumored Kamen Riders, spoke. Mr. Hino is an exclusive model to fashion designer Hina Izumi.

Seito University Hospital's head nurse, Asuna Karino, also shared the same sentiments as Detective Tomari. She admitted that the Kamen Riders affiliated with the hospital were conventionally attractive and all that fighting has definitely developed their muscles. She also agrees with Mr. Hino's sentiments by asking why should their help be limited when they could help in more ways.

When asked about the supposed indecency of their latest calendars they simply shook their head and laughed at the absurdity before pointing toward the myriad of photobooks where the photographed subjects were virtually nude if not for the body parts that covered their manly and womanly parts.

I don't think Kiriko will explicitly admit to noticing other people thirsting after her husband... but he is known as "The Nation's Boyfriend" (actually that's Ryoma Takeuchi irl but in this 'verse it applies to Shinnosuke) so it's kinda a given.

Similarly Asuna/Poppy is tactful enough not to say such things about her colleagues, she'll just say the whole bit about the Riders helping people in other capacities as well. She, like Kiriko, is employed by the government after all (Poppy works for the CR which is part of the Japanese Ministry of Health).

As for the thing about photobooks... JK might probably cite some kind of statistics to support his anecdote as well. Like sales figures and revenues of the industry and such

Newly discovered photo of Okita Souji's uncle, Miyahara Kyugoro (宮原久五郎)

It’s been said that Okita’s mother, Ume (梅), came from the Miyahara family in Hino, and today I’m even more convinced about this.

Today [August 10, 2005], I went first thing in the morning to the Miyahara family, which is said to be the family home of Souji's mother. The wife informed me that Miyahara Hisao (宮原久男), the current head of the family, had been lying in bed for a long time due to health problems, but had finally recovered to the point where he could talk to people, so I visited him immediately.

Here in Hino, it is said by some people that Soujiro's mother came from the Miyahara family. Of course, the Miyahara family has passed down this belief, and Hisao, a descendant of the Miyahara family, has said so himself. That’s why I’ve written about it in my own work. However, I would like to be more certain. I wanted to hear it directly from the Miyahara family members and confirm it in person as soon as possible.

Why are there so few documents on Souji? The materials and relics related to the Shinsengumi were quickly disposed of early in the Meiji era (1868-1912), either burned or buried, or hidden deep in storehouses and barns, so there are few relics. This is especially true for Kondo, Hijikata, Okita, and Inoue, who were key figures in the Shinsengumi. The name in the Tennen Rishin-ryu Nakagoku Catalog that remains in the Hijikata family was altered to "Hijikata Yoshimasa," but this was probably done to blind the government authorities.

As we can see from Kondo’s execution in Itabashi, while Arima Touta of Satsuma was against it, he gave in to the Tosa samurai’s insistence for harsher punishment and had Kondo beheaded. At the time, Kondo had not yet been cleared of suspicion for the assassination of Sakamoto Ryoma, so unfortunately this increased the grudge against the Shinsengumi two or threefold.

Where in the world had Souji's belongings gone? It is said that he died on May 30, Keio 4, at the detached house of a gardener in Sendagaya (although there is also an Asakusa theory), but even so, there are no relics at all.

The Shinsengumi made an impact in Kyoto during the Bakumatsu, and more than half a dozen jouishishi, including those from Choshu and Tosa, were killed by the Shinsengumi. Hisao said, "We had a sword in our house until the end of the war, but we had to give it up after the war.”

Perhaps that was the reason.... It was already too late. It is possible that he left the sword at his mother's house because he did not know where to take it. The Miyahara family is now in the construction business, but in the past they were peasant farmers, so it is highly possible that the sword belonged to Souji.

There is a local historian in Hino named Tani Haruo, who passed away last year, who had done good research on the Shinsengumi and on Souji.

I had a lot to gain from my visit to the Miyahara family, and I have been in a happy mood since this morning. Unfortunately, however, there were no documents left behind. Everything is just a "story" as told in the past, but still, it is very interesting and convincing enough. There is only one thing that Hisao showed me that he had recently discovered. It was a photo of Souji's mother's brother, Kyugoro, and an enlarged drawing of him. (See above).

For Souji, this is his uncle, so it would not be surprising for him to resemble his mother's brother.

Incidentally, there is a photo of his sister Mitsu in her later years, which many people already know, but when I compared it with Kyugoro's face, which I was shown today, I think the resemblance is somewhat striking. At least, it is quite different from the flat face that was modeled after Kaname, a descendant of Mitsu at the beginning of the Showa period. The Kyugoro I saw looked fearless and strong, too good to be true even for a samurai. He looked even stronger than Kondo-san and Hijikata-san. The confirmation that the man is Kyugoro is that his name was written on the photo as Miyahara Kyugoro.

Hisao, whom I met today, said, "My great-great-grandfather, Kyugoro, was a great man, so my grandfather (Isojiro (磯次郎)) took the character “久” from his name and gave it to me.” Hisao's grandfather's wife was named "Nui," and Hisao has learned that from her.

The important thing is that he has heard that Souji was the son of one of Kyugoro's sisters (it is not clear whether he’s the son of an elder sister or a younger sister). This is what people who are familiar with Hino's folktales have told me. I remember that Hijikata sent several letters from Kyoto, two of which were addressed to Taira Sahei (one was dated on the 10th day of the 1st month of Genji 1, with a picture of the Shogun's guard formation, and the other is to send his greetings to the priest of Takahata Fudoson Temple because Hijikata was on his way to fight Choshu and might not survive.)

This Taira family is related to Hijikata Toshizo's family, and their descendant is Taira Tatsuzo. He is 80 years old this year, but his memory is still vivid and he told me stories about the old days. When I visited him the other day, he strongly insisted that "Okita is a Hino native.”

I have been looking around for evidence, but I have not been able to find any documents, but today's story and the photo seem to make it even more true. What remains as a document is the existence of a draft of a letter that Inoue  Taisuke (nephew of Genzaburo) was going to send to Okita's grandmother (also named Mitsu (様)). In this, it shows that the relationship between the Okita family, the Inoue family (both the head family and the branch family), and the Miyahara family is unusual. And, in this, the name of Miyahara Kyugoro appears in two places. The contents of this draft are a bit serious, and since it is about the tangled relationship between Mitsu's son Hojiro and Taisuke's sister Hana, we do not want to make the contents public, but the Inoue family has already made it available to us. Thanks to this, we know the depth of the relationship between the three families.

Then there is the difficult question of why the Okita family and the Miyahara family have a relationship through marriage. It is a well-known fact that the Okita family has been related to the Inoue family and its branch families since then, but how the Okita and Miyahara families came to be related is a mystery. However, I have a theory that it’s not inconceivable. I will leave that for the next article.
