Beautiful Dolls!
Mei: Today's Hinamatsuri, huh_ Margarete: Hinamatsuri? Mei: In Japan, March 3rd is a day to pray for the health and happiness of girls. Margarete: Huh... So do you throw parties or something? Mei: Parties... Something like that, I guess. We decorate with peach blossoms and hina dolls, and we eat stuff like hina-arare and chirashizushi. Margarete: So there are special dolls for today, huh? What kind? Mei: Hang on, let me look up a picture of them... ah, here, look. These are hina dolls. Margarete: Pretty... These are really beautiful dolls... Mei: Do you like them? Margarete: It's not as if I do... I mean, anyone can appreciate fine art, right? Mei: I hear Ren-senpai's house has a full seven-tiered set! Margarete: Seven tiers!? Well, I guess that does sound impressive... Mei: I guess you do like them, huh? Alright, let's go over and ask her about it! C'mon, let's go! Margarete: Hold it! I said, it's not as if I... ugh, come on!

March 3rd, huh? Oh yeah, today is Girl's Day, I'm a girl, I deserve snacks.
Tumblr media
Or I guess it's more appropriate to refer to Hinamatsuri as "Doll Festival" but I'm lacking in fancy dolls. What do have is a grocery store stocked with Kimetsu no Yaiba Hina-arare, which is liked lightly salty puffed rice cereal. They come with heart shapes!

Chiasa gently placed two dolls of straw, one larger and one smaller, onto a small straw boat, and placed it onto the river to ferry down to the sea.
The woman held the hand of the unimpressed Kachi, who was being rather patient given the fact he had no clue what was going on. Once the kami gave a small prayer, she picked her son up and carried him back inside.
"Okay! I can't celebrate Hina Matsuri much, since I don't think I have a daughter? Not one of hina matsuri age, at the very least!
But! We can still have a party! We'll get hina-arare, chiraizisushi, hishi mochi and sakuramochi! I might even get ya some amazake, how about it?"
The pup jsut gave a small growl, gently bapping a fist against her shoulder.
"Okay, okay - we can get ya something grilled, too. And here I thought ya like sweet stuff!"

Happy Hina-Matsuri 雛祭り (Doll’s Festival or Girls’ Day in Japan)!
In Japan, this special day is celebrated every year on March 3rd. Hina-ningyo is a set of dolls representing the Emperor, Empress, attendants, and musicians in traditional court dress of the Heian period in Japan. The dolls are displayed on platforms covered with a red cloth, as you can see in this lantern slide.
“During Hina-matsuri and the preceding days, girls hold parties with their friends. Typical foods include hina-arare (雛あられ) (multi-colored rice crackers), chirashizushi (ちらし寿司) (raw fish and vegetables on rice in a bowl or bento box), hishi mochi (菱餅) (multicolored rice cakes), ichigo daifuku (いちご大福) (strawberries wrapped in adzuki bean paste and mochi), Sakuramochi (桜餅) and ushiojiru (うしお汁) (clam soup, as clam shells represent a joined pair). The customary drink is shirozake (白酒, "white sake"), also called amazake (甘酒,"sweet sake") a non-alcoholic sake.” – from Wikipedia.
Sounds like a great party time for girls in Japan!
Festival on 3rd March Japanese Doll Festival or Girls Day (Hina Matsuri), held on March 3. Hand-colored lantern slide. 3.25 x 4 in. Part of Etz-Trudell Collection of Hand-Colored Lantern Slides of Japan, India, and Korea Harvard Fine Arts Library, Special Collections HOLLIS number: olvwork367312

Hinamatsuri is a Japanese festival called Girls’ Festival or Dolls’ Festival
I wasn’t really sure how to translate “hina-arare” but they’re sweetened rice-flour cakes used for offering at Hinamatsuri

hi hi! i am tentatively trying to make friends. my spn sideblog is disableddean and i'm the one who has takeshi as cas in the soc. want to talk about your japanesenatural?
HI HI HI!! hello tumblr user i am a Big fan of your work 🙇 i've Cemented takeshi kaneshiro as Dean in my mind now (instead of cas ik i'm crazy) and i think it's impacting my japanesenatural writing :-) i would love to talk abt it!! without revealing too much abt my wip...
sam was VP of asian american students assoc. at stanford....... their mama's name is Mari!! but yt people kept calling her Mary or Marie :| sam's relationship to religion is pretty similar to canon but instead of believing in the Judeo-Christian God, he believes in a god. idk. dean is darker skinned than sam! (gets mistaken for a latino man sometimes because white ppl are... dumb. this has happened several times to my own brother lmao)
ALSOO dean is trans in this so one of his fav memories of his mama is when they'd celebrate hinamatsuri (girls day) and eat a shit ton of hina arare <3 despite this sam is the only one that makes any effort to connect to their culture because john didn't raise them in it when mari died :/ actually bobby is the one to try to teach them japanese!!

Happy Hina Matsuri Day! Every March 3 a special holiday to celebrate the growth, happiness, and prosperity of young girls. Also known as Girls' Day, this unique festival is celebrated differently depending on the region of Japan you're in, but most customs will include some similar features, like a set of cute dolls, peach flower decorations, as well as festive food such as hina-arare (multi-colored rice crackers) and chirashizushi (sliced raw fish with rice). This is my take on Hina Matsuri dolls. I used pieces of silk from real kimono which were once given out by Ichiroya to give them a vintage feel :) #hinamatsuri #girls #girlspower #japanesecraft #kanzashi (w: Warsaw, Poland) https://www.instagram.com/p/CL9Zh4DAiHb/?igshid=dierllqabgtq

A3! Translation: ODAIRISAMA PANIC! Epilogue - A Fun Hinamatsuri
Tumblr media
------------------
Tumblr media
Omi: Dinner’s ready. I made chirashizushi and clear clam soup from the clams we won.
Kumon: Awesome! It feels a lot like Hinamatsuri!
Taichi: It looks super delicious!
Kazunari: The food arrangements are so bright and colorful! Way to go Omimi~!
Banri: Hey, I got a whole bunch of hina-arare too. [1]
Omi: Okay, let’s have them after dinner.
Izumi: We’re eating dinner while looking at the hina dolls… It feels kinda nice~
Tsumugi: It really does.
Azuma: Guy and I went out and bought shirozake and sake. We also got amazake for the minors. [2]
Tenma: Amazake, huh.
Citron: Wonderful~! I would like to drink both sake and amazake!
------------------
Yuki: ……
Tumblr media
Masumi: …What’re you doing?
Yuki: Not much. I was looking at the hina dolls and thinking how rare it is to see them displayed like this.
Masumi: That’s it?
Yuki: ……
…It’s nothing important, but…
You know how Hinamatsuri’s an event for girls?
When I was little, I was jealous of the dolls that were laid out for my sisters.
Boys had to decorate with helmets on Children’s Day, right? [3]
I always admired the Ohina-sama and her sparkling outfit. I loved seeing them like that.
Masumi: ……
Yuki: There’s dolls at my family’s house, but I wanted to see them displayed at the dorm too.
So even though our goals were different, I was with you about wanting hina dolls.
We might have not gotten them as the prize, but I’m glad we got to see the dolls displayed like this.
I got to wear a cute costume during the contest too. Personally, I thought this was fun.
Masumi: …You should make her a costume too one day.
Yuki: Well, I’ll think about it.
Anyway, we should put these hina dolls away once Hinamatsuri ends.
Or else the Director might get married late. [4]
Masumi: I’m not worried about that, she’ll be my bride.
Yuki: Yeah, yeah… You’re seriously dogged.
------------------
Yuki: ……
Tumblr media
Kazunari: Hey, Yukkii! You came at just the right time!
Yuki: What is it?
Kazunari: Ta-dah~! Check this out!
Yuki: What’s this? A gold folding screen and tatami mats?
Kazunari: It’s a Hinamatsuri set my school used during their open house! They were gonna toss it, so I took it~
When I set it up like this, the courtyard becomes a Hinamatsuri photo spot! How about that?!
Yuki: That’s our party animal… Doing things differently.
Kazunari: Isn’t this a great idea~?!
Masumi: ……
Kazunari: Hey Massu! You gotta see this too!
Masumi: …What?
Kazunari: It’s a Hinamatsuri-themed photo spot! Ain’t it super cool?!
Tumblr media
Masumi: ——!
I can take a hina doll-styled couple’s photo with the Director…!
Hey, go make her a costume right away.
Yuki: Don’t be ridiculous.
Kazunari: Huh? Hey, what’re you guys talking about~?!
------------------
< Previous Chapter
TL Notes:
A sweet, rice puff snack commonly eaten during Hinamatsuri. They kinda look like pastel-colored cheese puffs.
Sake is the rice wine drink we all know and love (the original text is 日本酒). Shirozake is a sweet variation of sake also commonly drunk during Hinamatsuri. Amazake is a sweet, non-alcoholic rice drink.
On Children’s Day (formerly known as Boy’s Day), it’s tradition to display samurai armor so that sons could grow up strong and healthy. Nowadays, people tend to make paper origami samurai helmets (or kabuto) for decoration.
A common superstition was that if one doesn’t put the dolls away once Hinamatsuri ended, then the daughters would marry late (this was probably to encourage people to put the dolls away before they get damaged by the rainy season and humidity that came after the holiday).
After two months, I’m finally finished with this event story! Thank you for your patience! I should be starting a new job sometime soon (whenever they finish HR things that is), so here’s hoping that I’ll finish the final part of the Tetsuro TL by then!
