A New Book of Mormon Introduction Tested in App
The church has many apps available for download, and no surprise, one dedicated to the Book of Mormon. It is geared towards investigators who are new to the church as you can imagine is a useful tool for missionary work when investigators can download a free app rather than be given a physical book. The Book of Mormon Introduction The introduction to the Book of Mormon was not a part of the…

I assume the Mormon church’s PR dept is slightly less crusty than the average church org, and if there are any 40-ish-year-old ladies working there, they likely had a doll (or wanted one). I thought for sure they’d have a knockoff pioneer doll.
On a semi-related note, if you haven’t fallen down the rabbit hole of Mormon trek videos on YouTube, I highly recommend it for the sheer WTF-ness.
oh, I'm sure that would be the case for PR people, you're right. I have watched some Trek videos! I do find the Mormon people's cultural propensity for LARP really endearing on some level. I would have enjoyed Trek so much had I been raised LDS but I do understand why a lot of people find it miserable.

The translator is very weird with this one and as this Anon clearly just wants to be annoying and receive his slap, I am leaving the dialectics to you and will reserve my verdict to the gif.
Dear Never Were Anon,
Once upon a time, on a hill named Cumorah, in the godforsaken little township of Palmyra, somewhere deep on the Western side of the state of New York, a man called Joseph Smith had a vision. Following this particular episode, he claimed an angel called Moroni entrusted him with some golden plates written in 'reformed Egyptian' (whatever that might mean, btw), he then promptly proceeded to translate into English.
Only eight human beings of the Palmyrian like-minded community confirmed to have seen those plates. In order to translate them, Smith purportedly dangled a chocolate colored seer stone in a hat. Or used special (Biblical!) spectacles. Really, whichever rocks your boat, Anon: stories like this one are seldom clear, I suspect. The text, he was the only one to see, appeared at the bottom of the hat and was promptly dictated to someone nearby. The completed compilation was called The Book of Mormon and once it was all done, Moroni popped in again and took back his plates.
Maybe the same thing happened to you, Anon. Maybe an angel caught up with you at Starbucks, gave you a coupon and instructed you to use a seer stone to peer to the bottom of your plastic cup of latte. Otherwise I can't explain how do you know (in no particular order): what is S doing in the BOMB project, what is C doing at this particular moment in time, how much does S drink and how low can he go, what crosses my mind as I am writing this answer to you, what will I probably never need to say, how angry I am and of course, above all (lest we NEVER forget), THE TRUTH about the whole affair.
However, unlike Joseph Smith, your angel lost an 'i' en route to you. And that is a real problem, I know. Not even sorry, pumpkin.
Bat will take care of the gif.

Mormonism 101
One of the reasons for this project is that Mormonism, through its global missionary program, shows like South Park and the Book of Mormon musical, and the music of Donny Osmond, is a very visible religion, yet at the same time its basic tenets, beliefs, and practices are almost totally unknown to anyone except initiates. Most people are aware of Mormons, but couldn't tell you much about the religion. So what is Mormonism? Let's start with terminology. While "Mormon" and "Mormonism" are well-established, people who are usually called Mormons are actually members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. "Mormon" is a nickname or exonym drawn from the religion's principle scripture, the Book of Mormon. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the official name of what to most people is "the Mormon Church." The term "Mormon" is discouraged, as is the abbreviation LDS. Official Church sources stress that the full name should be used whenever possible, but suggest using the abbreviations, “Church of Jesus Christ” or “Christ’s Church,” which seem more to me like ambiguous theopolitical statements than useful short forms. Apologies to any LDS readers, but I'll be using "Mormon," "Latter-day Saint," and "LDS" more or less interchangeably.
Mormonism is a Christian restorationist denomination, which means that Mormons believe their religion is a restoration of primitive (in the sense of first or original) Christianity. Mormonism is a Christian religion to the extent that its central figure is Jesus Christ, but has several major differences from mainstream Christianity, which we'll get to in later posts. (I personally believe that Mormonism originates in Christianity, but is not Christian in the same way that Christianity originated from Judaism but isn't Jewish.) The Church was founded by Joseph Smith, Jr, who hailed from upstate New York and is regarded by believers as a prophet similar to the way Jews & Christians view Moses or Muslims view Muhammad. Smith had visions from the spirit world telling him to organize his own church, as all Christian creeds were an abomination in the eyes of God, and leading him to a new volume of scripture, the Book of Mormon, written by some of the indigenous inhabitants of the Americas on golden plates, and buried on the Hill Cumorah. Smith allegedly translated this record, the Book of Mormon, through the gift and power of God. The Bible, the Book of Mormon, a collection of Smith and other Latter-day prophets' revelations called the Doctrine and Covenants, and The Pearl of Great Price, consisting of some excerpts from Smith's revision of the Bible and other ephemera, constitute the open Latter-day Saint scriptural canon. After Smith's assassination, his successor Brigham Young led the Mormons to Utah, and eventually the religion grew to become a global faith. The Church is headed by a president that adherents consider a modern prophet, seer, and revelator, and they consider themselves the only true, authorized church on earth today. They have many distinctive teachings on the nature of God, the afterlife, health and diet, finances, and other matters that I plan to cover in future posts. (Any corrections are always welcome, but I think this is pretty accurate!)

Mormonism cannot lead you to heaven because it departs from the sufficiency of the Bible.
The LDS faith teaches that the Book of Mormon is sacred Scripture, being “another testament of Jesus Christ.” It possesses equal, if not greater, authority as the Bible, and is, therefore, the word of God. Mormonism holds that Joseph Smith discovered the Book of Mormon as a teenager in its original form in Manchester, New York on a hill called Cumorah. The book was recorded on gold plates long ago in an ancient Egyptian-type language. In 1823, Joseph Smith claimed to have been directed by the angel, Moroni, to discover and translate the contents, which became the Book of Mormon.
Mormonism teaches that Smith was a prophet like Moses and Isaiah, chosen by God to restore the true Church of Jesus Christ using the text from the plates.
The content of the Book of Mormon rejects the idea that the Bible alone is the sufficient word of God: “Thou fool, that shall say: A Bible, we have got a Bible, and we need no more Bible” (2 Nephi 29:6).
Along with the Book of Mormon and the Bible, Mormonism affirms the canonicity of two other works, The Doctrine and Covenants, and Joseph Smith’s work, The Pearl of Great Price. New revelation is also permitted, which, similar to papal authority in Roman Catholicism, can arise from the Prophet, or President of the Church.
This violates the clear teaching of the sufficiency of Scripture: “Every word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. Do not add to His words or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar” (Prov 30:5-6; cf. Deut. 4:2, 2 Pet. 1:3, Rev. 22:18-19). Since it imposes an entire book onto the word of God, the LDS faith is on extraordinarily shaky ground.

Book of Mormon Geography
Where does the Book of Mormon take place, you might ask. Well, in this week's hot take, I share my thoughts
Instead of the Lehites, let's begin with the Jaredites. I firmly believe Noah's Ark didn't occur in the 2000s BC, but rather during the flooding at the end of the Younger Dryas period. Moving the timeline up makes everything else fall into place, including the land of the Jaredites
The Jaredites were a Hunter-Gatherer Group that lived in the area of Turkey. This is important because Hunter-Gatherer groups typically comprised 20-50 people. This is the same amount of people proposed to have come across the Bering Strait. So, my theory is that the Jaredites are the ancestors of all the Natives, and we only follow a specific branch of the family (one wiped out around 580 BC)
Next, we cover the Lehites. Unlike the Jaredites, they are located in a much smaller area. My wife (then just my friend) calculated that the Narrow Neck of Land was Panama. At the very least, Panema is the Center of the Territory. I don't imagine it would have spread too far though (the furthest North I'm thinking is Guatemala & maybe the Caribbean Islands. The Furthest South is probably Columbia. But that's all a guess)
And, while we're at it, there's only One Cumorah, and it is not the one in New York. It was never called that by Moroni, and the Book of Mormon says all the records were buried in Cumorah except for the Gold Plates. There is the apocryphal story of Joseph & Oliver entering a cave in New York Hill, but evidence has shown there is no such cave (which points to a Vision, Teleportation, or God hiding the cave, going most to least likely, if we accept that story as true). It is commonly believed that Carro El Vigia is Cumorah, but I'll need to look more into it before I come to a conclusion

This guide to Church History Sites in New York and Pennsylvania can help you learn about the places where many of the events fundamental to the organization of the Church occurred:
The Sacred Grove, Hill Cumorah, Priesthood Restoration Site, Whitmer Farm, and Grandin Building all tell a story of faith, perseverance, and hope. They have been preserved by the Church for visitors to enjoy either in person or virtually.

Mormon, Chapter 6, Part 3. "The One."
Tumblr media
At the top of the Hill called Cumhora, the Wake Up Call, a war of numbers and rhetoric begins between Mormon the Balm for the Oppressed and Moroni, "the Blood of the Grape" and the Lamanites, who were obviously the oppressors. The total for the Army of Light is 20,000 men in front and in back of the army of the enemy.
To go to the top of the mountain serves to provide a vantage point but it also means one draws conclusions. Moses went up the Mountain to bring down the law as free people need the law in order to remain free. Freedom is not a freak accident, it certainly does not remain concurrent without the binding power of the law. To go up the Mountain to wake up because freedom is threatened is one of the ways people and their governments maintain the essence of their free lifestyles.
Americans do not like to go up the mountain and face the music that their politicians and governors are violating human rights laws guaranteed by the Constitution and the Treaties we have ratified. and This keeps us all trapped in a perennial political rinse cycle. The reason we write and enforce these laws is for the purposes of a permanent escape from oppression and as soon as President Biden realizes this and does not hold back, we can reasonably expect to be free of oppression in America forever.
Once again, we have agreed to laws that protect a woman's right to choose, freedom of religion, the right to marry an adult of legal age of your choice, the right to the gender that suits you, and freedom from recrimination or descrimination based on race, ethic origin, etc. These laws are inviolate, there are self-enforcing, no amount of complaining or picketing can legally be used to challenge the sacrosanctuary provided by these laws.
Politicians, organizations, legislators, and judges that challenge civil rights laws can be arrested for Crimes Against Humanity and apartheid, and this needs to be done.
The entire section is filled with Hebrew Gematria which will follow the verses.
8 And it came to pass that they came to battle against us, and every soul was filled with terror because of the greatness of their numbers.
9 And it came to pass that they did fall upon my people with the sword, and with the bow, and with the arrow, and with the ax, and with all manner of weapons of war.
10 And it came to pass that my men were hewn down, yea, even my ten thousand who were with me, and I fell wounded in the midst; and they passed by me that they did not put an end to my life.
11 And when they had gone through and hewn down all my people save it were twenty and four of us, (among whom was my son Moroni) and we having survived the dead of our people, did behold on the morrow, when the Lamanites had returned unto their camps, from the top of the hill Cumorah, the ten thousand of my people who were hewn down, being led in the front by me.
12 And we also beheld the ten thousand of my people who were led by my son Moroni.
13 And behold, the ten thousand of Gidgiddonah had fallen, and he also in the midst.
The Values in Gematria are:
v. 8: Every soul was filled with terror. The Value in Gematria is 7921, זט‎‎בא‎ , zetba, "the olive bloom, hidden."
Surely niether the Lamanites named by the Prophet nor the modern Republican Party and the Evangelicals plan to publish the peace and have a state county fair to celebrate humanity. They are too belligerant towards the Gospels for this. Their Numbers are all wrong.
v. 9: They fell upon my people with all manners of weapons of war. Have you ever heard a Republican quoting scripture about God's love for charity, the relief of poverty, care for the sick, lonely, imprisoned, or those who mourn? You will not. They are a diseased group of people.
Use of scripture to encourage misanthropy, the minting of weapons, to criminalize the poor, or deny needy persons refuge is a sin. This is what it means to use weapons of war against the people.
That little fake fuck Mike Johnson who is actually very wealthy is going to hell for what he did to the people of Ukraine this past Christmas time, and he needn't look forward to the trip.
The wee cunt then went to the Museum of the Bible and called himself Moses.
The Value in Gematria is 14031, ידאֶפֶסג‎א‎, yahidapesga, the peak "the summit will stop."
At the top of the Mountain is the Sermon on the Mount. Everyone needs to read it and the people who live in America, including its politicians need to understand it. This should put an end to the bullshit that permeates our lives.
From Matthew 5-7: Introduction to the Sermon on the Mount
5 Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them.
The Beatitudes
He said:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,     for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn,     for they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek,     for they will inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,     for they will be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful,     for they will be shown mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart,     for they will see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers,     for they will be called children of God. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,     for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Salt and Light
13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
The Fulfillment of the Law
17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
Murder
21 “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder,[a] and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ 22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister[b][c] will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’[d] is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.
23 “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, 24 leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.
25 “Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. 26 Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.
Adultery
27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’[e] 28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.
Divorce
31 “It has been said, ‘Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.’[f] 32 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
Oaths
33 “Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ 34 But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. 36 And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. 37 All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.[g]
Eye for Eye
38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’[h] 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
Love for Enemies
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor[i] and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Giving to the Needy
6 “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Prayer
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done,     on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts,     as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation,[j]     but deliver us from the evil one.[k]’
14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Fasting
16 “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Treasures in Heaven
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy,[l] your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy,[m] your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
Do Not Worry
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[n]?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Judging Others
7 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
6 “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.
Ask, Seek, Knock
7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
9 “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
The Narrow and Wide Gates
13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
True and False Prophets
15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
True and False Disciples
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
The Wise and Foolish Builders
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
v. 10: And it came to pass my men were hewn down. The Value in Gematria is 14406, ידדאֶפֶסו‎ ‎yaddaepso, "the zero hand," "they understood nothing."
v. 11a: And when they had gone through and hewn down all my people save it were twenty and four of us, (among whom was my son Moroni) and we having survived the dead of our people, did behold on the morrow...The Value in Gematria is 17600, יז‎ואֶפֶסאֶפֶס‎, "Jezu Ephesus," "Josephus", AKA "Jesus is the Fruit of the Coming Era."
v. 11b: When the Lamanites had returned unto their camps, from the top of the hill Cumorah, the ten thousand of my people who were hewn down, being led in the front by me. The Value in Gematria is 10051, יאֶפֶסה‎א, yepesa, "Learn how to reset. Take a step."
v. 12: And we also beheld the ten thousand of my people who were led by my son Moroni. The Value in Gematria is 5840, הח‎ד אֶפֶס‎, "the One is Zero." There is One Infinite Gracious and Good Holy Spirit, there is no other. The Christ is the Blood of the Fruit of His Actions here on this plane, in this life.""
v. 13: And behold, the ten thousand of Gidgiddonah "the tickler" [ to cut away with strength of a judge passing a sentence] had fallen, and he also in the midst. The Value in Gematria is 1803, א‎חאֶפֶסג, achafesg, "I will set at liberty through the passage."
There are a few passages named above. As for the rest of this section, it needs little explanation.

1. How many works do you have on ao3?
26!
2. What’s your total ao3 word count?

Reblogging to explain this design more!
I'm still workshopping their name -- the names Nehar and Orah are sticking out to me right now [both Hebrew words meaning "light" or "shine" -- "nehar" comes from "linhor", to flow or to shine, and "orah" means light -- it's found at the end of the hill Cumorah, fun fact!], but there are so many good name options, especially when looking within the Book of Mormon. Someone who's good at names should help me out with this! I'd love to hear more options, I'm sure there are tons that I'm missing.
Their rain jacket is dark blue. Dark blue is pretty prevalent within the Church [aka it's on the Book of Mormon cover and it's the color of the Gospel Library app. Also BYU colors]; I thought it would be a good color.
Their hair has a gold streak through the middle. Gold is also found pretty liberally throughout our religion -- the Angel Moroni at the top of our temples, and the Gold Plates, to name a few. I thought a gold streak through dark brown hair would be a fun reference.
I put the Christus on their left lapel instead of the other symbol that was there prior [note: what is that? couldn't find any information explaining what that is]. The Christus is the church's new symbol. However, a missionary tag could also be very easily and very fittingly placed there! It's up to y'all and which one you like better.
They are wearing both the Young Women's medallion and the Young Men's ring. Because they embody the Christlike qualities of both men and women or some crap like that.
Instead of the scallop in Luce's eyes, I have chosen to replace it with a badly drawn beehive -- a symbol of Utah, sure, but also a symbol our faith has embraced [remember when Beehives and Mia Maids and Laurels were a thing?]. I thought that, since it also represents Utah, it could be a fitting equivalent to the scallop, which represents pilgrimage [the original pioneers trekked to Utah in a similar fashion]
I switched out Luce's walking stick for a shepherd's crook because I didn't feel like the Catholic walking stick symbolized our faith much. I thought a shepherd's crook would symbolize Christ's role as our Shepherd.
White shirt and boots to reference the whiteness of temples, and our faith's emphasis on striving to be morally clean and someday sinless. The boots are muddy, yes, but they are waterproof and can be washed clean, and over time no trace of the mud will remain -- just like how we can repent and be pure once again.
This anime character doesn't quite represent the average Mormon, nor does it perfectly embody the faith as a whole. But it's a cute anime character, so who the heck cares??

Top 5 Big Love Moments?
alright it's really hard for me to pick single moments i feel like so i might go for moments + scenes
1) roman's trial. this whole episode is absolutely searing it is imo one of the best of the series and the whole scene is just like. on the edge of your seat nailbiting freaking the fuck out absolutely nauseating. and then nicki [redacted spoiler] and you're just like screaming crying laughing throwing up.
2) i absolutely love the whole scene of wayne's birthday party in episode 3 that was the episode that just had me like yesssssss and it's so good. great layering and character work there, really good as an early episode.
3) the end of season three. i think the whole scene with hollis and roman beefing while bill is desperately trying to keep the handoff with kim lee from going sideways is both dramatically compelling and deeply funny, the scene where roman says you have to take power from god and kissing bill on the mouth is like INSANE and also imo fundamentally thematic to the series and then the splicing of bill reacting to this like a dumbass by starting his own backyard church and cara lynn joining the family and roman [redacted spoiler].
4) when the whole ass family forgot bill behind at the rest stop with no phone and he had to walk to the motel lmfaoooooo. actually the road trip episode is tied for top episode for me with roman's trial and i also really like the moment when bill is praying at the end while everyone else goes to the hill cumorah pageant and the angel moroni is rising up behind him unseen. so good.
5. nicki and margene's fight where nicki is like well at least you got to have a childhood. absolutely unparalleled and heartbreaking scene. or also honorable moment to that scene with sarah and lois in the bathtub talking about lois’s dead daughter and why she cut her hair. because i do love lois and she is everything to me.

“NEPHI
Wherefore, it is an abridgment of the record of the people of Nephi, and also of the Lamanites—Written to the Lamanites, who are a remnant of the house of Israel; and also to Jew and Gentile—Written by way of commandment, and also by the spirit of prophecy and of revelation—Written and sealed up, and hid up unto the Lord, that they might not be destroyed—To come forth by the gift and power of God unto the interpretation thereof—Sealed by the hand of Moroni, and hid up unto the Lord, to come forth in due time by way of the Gentile—The interpretation thereof by the gift of God. “they were building a tower to get to heaven—Which is to show unto the remnant of the house of Israel what great things the Lord hath done for their fathers; and that they may know the covenants of the Lord, that they are not cast off forever—And also to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself unto all nations—And now, if there are faults they are the mistakes of men; wherefore, condemn not the things of God, that ye may be found spotless at the judgment-seat of Christ.
TRANSLATED BY JOSEPH SMITH, Jun.”
“INTRODUCTION
The Book of Mormon is a volume of holy scripture comparable to the Bible. It is a record of God’s dealings with ancient inhabitants of the Americas and contains the fulness of the everlasting gospel.
The book was written by many ancient prophets by the spirit of prophecy and revelation. Their words, written on gold plates, were quoted and abridged by a prophet-historian named Mormon. The record gives an account of two great civilizations. One came from Jerusalem in 600 b.c. and afterward separated into two nations, known as the Nephites and the Lamanites. The other came much earlier when the Lord confounded the tongues at the Tower of Babel. This group is known as the Jaredites. After thousands of years, all were destroyed except the Lamanites, and they are among the ancestors of the American Indians.
The crowning event recorded in the Book of Mormon is the personal ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ among the Nephites soon after His resurrection. It puts forth the doctrines of the gospel, outlines the plan of salvation, and tells men what they must do to gain peace in this life and eternal salvation in the life to come. After Mormon completed his writings, he delivered the account to his son Moroni, who added a few words of his own and hid up the plates in the Hill Cumorah. On September 21 1823, the same Moroni, then a glorified, resurrected being, appeared to the Prophet Joseph Smith and instructed him relative to the ancient record and its destined translation into the English language.
In due course the plates were delivered to Joseph Smith, who translated them by the gift and power of God. The record is now published in many languages as a new and additional witness that Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God and that all who will come unto Him and obey the laws and ordinances of His gospel may be saved.
Concerning this record the Prophet Joseph Smith said: “I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.”
In addition to Joseph Smith, the Lord provided for eleven others to see the gold plates for themselves and to be special witnesses of the truth and divinity of the Book of Mormon. Their written testimonies are included herewith as “The Testimony of Three Witnesses” and “The Testimony of Eight Witnesses.”
We invite all men everywhere to read the Book of Mormon, to ponder in their hearts the message it contains, and then to ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ if the book is true. Those who pursue this course and ask in faith will gain a testimony of its truth and divinity by the power of the Holy Ghost. (See Moroni 10:3–5.)
“Those who gain this divine witness from the Holy Spirit will also come to know by the same power that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, that Joseph Smith is His revelator and prophet in these last days, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord’s kingdom once again established on the earth, preparatory to the Second Coming of the Messiah.”

Mormon artifacts Rated by the Jones-Toht Threat Scale*
*how dangerous they are to Nazis faces. The scale is measure from 0 to five. A ‘0′ indicates the object is harmless to anyone and everyone. A ‘5′ indicates the object is extremely dangerous.
Part 1
Liahona
History: Suspected of being a type of astrolabe , this strange object appeared one morning outside of Lehi's tent and was responsible for leading them to their promised land. It directed the faithful through two spindles and writing. At some point in Nephite history the Liahona was replaced by the “Nephite Interpreters”. Some scholars believe this event is described in the lost 116 pages. It was stored with the gold plates and then, presumably, taken into heaven with the plates.
Analysis: There is no record I'm aware of that indicated the Liahona has ever caused direct harm to anyone. However it has deliberately stopped working when the wicked needed it to avoid or get out of danger. This makes it about as dangerous as a flashlight that runs out of batteries in the middle of the night.
Rating: 1 melted Nazi face out of 5
Sword of Laban
History: Used by Nephi to kill Laban, this sword became the template for future Nephite weaponry. The sword also became a symbol of Nephite kings, being wielded by Kings Benjamin and Mosiah. The sword was buried with the gold plates, shown to the three witnesses and, according to Brigham Young, ended up in a cave under the Hill Cumorah. According to Brigham's account Oliver Cowdery and Joseph Smith entered that cave at least twice. “The first time they went there the sword of Laban hung upon the wall; but when they went again it had been taken down and laid upon the table across the gold plates; it was unsheathed and on it was written these words: ‘This sword will never be sheathed again until the kingdoms of this world become the kingdom of our God and his Christ.” (Brigham Young, JD 19:38)
Analysis: At first glance there is nothing particularly mystical about the Sword of Laban. Plenty of historical significance, but it's just a normal sword, and an old one at that. But, if the story of it in the cave is to be believed then it seems that it cannot be sheathed until the end of the world. In that case then you could, theoretically, bring about the end of the world by sheathing it. But that's mere speculation.
Rating: 3.5 melted Nazi faces out of 5
Seer Stones
History: There are a few different Seer Stones in Mormon history. Mostly they fall into two groups; Joseph's seer stones and the Nephite interpreters. As I understand it, Joseph had two seer stones that were uniquely his. A white one and a brown one. Photographs of the Brown stone were published in 2015 which confirmed that it is the the possession of the Church. Is is suspected that the white stone is also in the church's collection.
The Nephite Interpreters specifically refers to two clear stones set in a sort of chest mounted pair of spectacles. While theses were very useful to the Nephites on a number of occasions, Joseph indicated that he found them uncomfortable to use.
Analysis: The seer stones grant knowledge allowing the unseen to be seen and the unknown to be known. However, when not in use for that purpose they seem to behave as normal harmless rock, and are only as dangerous as one's pitching arm.
Rating: 0.5 melted Nazi faces out of 5
Gold Plates
History: The Nephite record from which the Book of Mormon was translated. Made by Mormon and Moroni and hid in the Hill Cummorah with other Nephite artifacts.
Analysis: Nobody ever lost their life mishandling the plates, but there may be an element of 'Cursed Gold' at play here. Simply put, once you have it, everyone else wants it. Joseph was constantly thwarting attempted thefts of the plates. However, it seems the plates had some way of defending themselves. When Joseph first attempted to retrieve them, he admitted to having greed in his heart and because of that was forcefully hurled to the ground as many as three times. The records also indicate that they were fairly heavy and could do some damage if placed into a sack and swung.
Rating: 3 melted Nazi faces out of 5
Part 2 coming eventually. Let me know if you think of any other artifacts.
