I'm doing mine with swimming sessions. I assumed I would be never able to climb the hill to my house without panting and feeling pain in my lungs, and one year later I was "...dang, I won't be able to stop this without feeling horrible, will I?"

hey did you know??? that if you stop stretching and maintaining mobility in your body then it goes away?? things get tight and you can't move the way that you used to??? and when you decide to try getting a stretch routine going that the first week fucking sucks because you keep going 'damn i used to be able to do this no problem' and then you have to switch gears and be kind to yourself and just focus on getting better from here instead of berating yourself for dropping the good habits in the first place??? and your body never stops aging so you gotta keep taking care of it and sometimes you gotta take care of it extra in certain areas because of things that happened when you were younger and it's boring and sometimes hurts but it's so necessary???

Nyctosaurus is a genus of nyctosaurid pterosaur which lived throughout what is now the Midwestern United States and possibly Brazil during the Santonian to Campanian of the Late cretaceous some 87 and 82 million years ago. The first known remains of nyctosaurus consisting of a fragmented skeleton was recovered from the Smoky Hill River site in Kansas and were described in 1876 by Othniel Charles Marsh. Marsh referred the specimen to a species of his new genus Pteranodon, as Pteranodon gracilis. Later that year, Marsh reclassified the species in its own genus, which he named Nyctosaurus, meaning "night lizard" or "bat lizard", in reference to the wing structure somewhat paralleling those of bats. In 1881, Marsh incorrectly assumed the name was preoccupied and changed it into Nyctodactylus, which thus is now a junior synonym. In 1901 H. T. Martin recorverd a remarkably complete specimen which was described by Samuel Wendell Williston who assigned it as nyctosaurus giving a much better picture and understanding of the animal. Since then several additional specimens have been recovered with there being at least 2 species: N. gracilis & N. nanus. Reaching around 1 to 2ft (30 to 60cms) in length, 4-6lbs (1.8 to 2.7kgs) in weight, with a 6.6 to 9.5ft (2 to 2.9m) long wingspan, nyctosaurus sported many similarities to its much larger contemporary pteranodon such as a comparatively small body, long wings, large heads, and elaborate head crests. In nyctosaurus the crest is composed of two long, grooved spars, each as long or longer than the body, with one pointed upward and the other backward, arising from a common base projecting up and back from the back of the skull. Fairly unique amongst pterosaurs nyctosaurs lost most of the wing fingers except the "flight" digit. As a result, nyctosaurus likely had a hard time walking let alone climbing and likely spent almost all of its time on the wing.

Still Searching for Their Loved Ones, a Week After Hurricane Helene (NYT) The last time Drew McLean’s parents saw him, he was marveling at the power of Tropical Storm Helene as it washed over their home in the mountains of North Carolina. He and his mother found that a large tree had split in the front yard and another had been pushed by surging water into Mr. McLean’s car, tipping it on its side. Amid the chaos, Mr. McLean, 45, offered his mother a comforting thought: “God is still on his throne,” he said. Mr. McLean has been missing for a week now, ever since he apparently walked off into the storm last Friday. U.S. Wiretap Systems Targeted in China-Linked Hack (WSJ) A cyberattack tied to the Chinese government penetrated the networks of a swath of U.S. broadband providers, potentially accessing information from systems the federal government uses for court-authorized network wiretapping requests. Brazil drought sinks Amazon rainforest port river level to 122-year low (Reuters) The river port in the Amazon rainforest’s largest city of Manaus on Friday hit its lowest level since 1902, as a drought drains waterways and snarls transport of grain exports and essential supplies that are the region’s lifeline. Below-average rainfall—even through the rainy season—has plagued the Amazon and much of South America since last year, also feeding the worst wildfires in more than a decade in Brazil and Bolivia. Scientists predict the Amazon region may not fully recover moisture levels until 2026. Is Europe Becoming Ungovernable? (WSJ) At a recent debate, a German voter had some pointed criticism for Chancellor Olaf Scholz: The German government is unable to govern and its ministers are bickering like children. Instead of pushing back, Scholz conceded the point. “The truth is: You are right,” he said. “But what would be your solution? I mean, I’m asking for a friend.” The exchange triggered little controversy in Europe’s largest economy, once considered a paragon of good governance. It is now all but taken for granted that politicians can agree on little here, and implement even less. International rescue teams arrive in Bosnia after devastating floods and landslides (AP) Rescue teams from Bosnia’s neighbors and European Union countries on Sunday were joining efforts to clear the rubble and find people still missing from floods and landslides that devastated parts of the Balkan country. Bosnia sought EU help after a heavy rainstorm overnight on Friday left entire areas under water and debris destroyed roads and bridges, killing at least 18 people and wounding dozens. Officials said that at least 10 people are still unaccounted for.

Ukraine in security limbo (Washington Post) More than a week after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky presented his “victory plan” for how to end the war with Russia to top U.S. officials, details of the strategy and how it was received remain hazy. The trip, which was viewed as a key opportunity by Ukrainian officials for Zelensky to sell the United States on how to support Ukraine going forward, failed to resonate in Washington. Biden held his stance on prohibiting U.S.-provided longer-range missiles to strike inside Russia and Zelensky found himself caught in a political crossfire as influential Republicans largely criticized or snubbed him. Health workers in Lebanon describe deadly Israeli attacks on colleagues and fear more (AP) Israel’s military struck outside the gates of a hospital in southern Lebanon without warning on Friday, killing seven paramedics and forcing the facility to close, the hospital director told The Associated Press a day after one of the most deadly attacks on health workers in the weeks since fighting escalated between Israel and Hezbollah. The account of the Friday airstrikes that flung hospital doors off their hinges and shattered glass was the latest to detail attacks that Lebanon’s health ministry says have killed dozens of health workers. Marjayoun hospital director Mounes Kalakesh said that even before Friday’s attack, ambulance crews in the area were so reluctant to operate that the facility had not received anyone wounded for days. Friday’s attack came hours before Israel’s Arabic-language military spokesman accused the Hezbollah militant group, based in southern Lebanon, of using ambulances to transport weapons and fighters, and warned medical teams to stay clear of the group. A year of fleeing across Gaza (AP) Ne’man Abu Jarad sat on a tarp on the ground. Around him, canvas sheets hung from cords, forming the walls of his tent. For the past year, Ne’man; his wife, Majida; and their six daughters have trekked the length of the Gaza Strip, trying to survive as Israeli forces wreaked destruction around them. It’s a far cry from their house in northern Gaza—a place of comforting routine, of love, affection and safety. A place where loved ones gathered around the kitchen table or on the roof on summer evenings amid the scent of roses and jasmine flowers. The Abu Jarad family lost that stability when Israel launched its campaign in Gaza in retaliation for Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack. They did exactly as the Israelis ordered in the devastating weeks and months of war that followed. They obeyed evacuation calls. They moved where the military told them to move. Seven times they fled, and each time, their lives became more unrecognizable to them, crowding with strangers in a school classroom, searching for water in a vast tent camp or sleeping on the street. King of the Hill. Class and community

"The courtship of Joseph's father" is one of my favorite episodes of the later seasons. Of course it's funny in a 'Dale takes it too far again' kinda way, but I think it says something interesting about the characters and setting as well. 

Joseph gets his talent as a quarterback recognized. Spencer Academy, a prestigious school, offers him a spot, in the hopes that he'll be a part of their team for football season. The kid doesn't want to leave Tom Landry, but Dale chooses for him,  sends him there, and later goes to great lengths himself to fit in with the rich families.

On the surface, it seems that Dale is interested mostly in the aesthetic the academy allows him to indulge in. And sure enough, he enjoys wearing elegant outfits and taking his Nancy out to enjoy a fancy dinner. 

But at a gala, he gets a harsh reminder that his wife and him don't belong with the upper class. Joseph himself has been struggling to connect with his peers: despite sharing a language and nationality, the class gap creates what is effectively a cultural difference. Dale speaks with Hank, and after his friend tells him he should do what's best for Joseph, he draws the natural Dale-conclusion and leaves his son at a rich family's door in the hopes that they'll adopt him. 

What strikes me about this episode is that it functions around class struggle. For starters, Dale knows what it's like to be an outcast. As a child, he spent his days talking to baskets and eating bugs. As an adult, he's too scattered to hold down a job and his family struggles financially as a result. He's also a gun fanatic with bad aim and an expert in conspiracies no one else takes seriously. 

But, if he had means and power, all of his weirdness would be forgiven as harmless eccentricity. His Nancy would stop struggling with the bills, and Joseph would escape the class his parents were born in and secure a stable future for himself. Dale senses that climbing up the social ladder is the key to success and happiness, but is naive enough to believe a mimicry of the elite's behaviors and mannerisms is enough to gain a place among them. 

Of course, his plan doesn't work out, and Joseph comes back home. Dale is initially horrified ("I just saw Joseph at the Hills'" Nancy tells him. "What?! He can't stay with them! They're worse than us!") but eventually realizes he loves his son too much to send him away. He decides to bring him back to Tom Landry, and, as he now owes Spencer Academy money, his neighbors help him organize a gala of his own to raise funds and pay them back.

In the end, we're left with a sense of injustice. The Gribbles deserve nice galas, fancy dinners and trips to Brazil, but their class prohibits them from accessing these experiences. Power and money are distributed unevenly and unfairly, and class mobility is unattainable. 

But there's also a sense of hope. I believe one of the key themes of King of the Hill is community. Dale, Joseph and Nancy are back where they started: no money and no fame. But their friends (this flawed and weird set of people) have banded together to get them out of trouble. Perhaps they'll never reach the top of the ladder, but they have each other. And that too might be a good place to be.

had a fun little dream last night

I dreampt I was hiking along a trail of Chuchilla Grande, (what I was doing in South America I have no idea) when I came across these mole hills which alarmed me because I realized these were the type of mole hills that zombies lived in, and soon the zombies started popping out of the ground, so I let them chase me until I led them off a cliff, and I dived over the cliff grabbing onto the side, and watched as all the zombies jumped over the cliff to their deaths, then I took my fae form and spread my wings and flew off, and started following a river until I came across a set of train tracks and a platform, so I land there, and wait for the train, when I get on the train I sit next to this older woman, and strike up a conversation with her, and subtly give her a fae boon of luck. when we reach Montevideo I get off the train, and walk through the city, until I get to an apartment building, I climb up the side of the building and jump off, spreading my wings again, and start to fly north, my intent is to get back home, I manage to fly all the way to the Itaipu Dam on the Paraguay/Brazil border, when my wings start to give out, and I begin to dip lower, but I use a boost given by an updraft at the dam, to glide the rest of the way to the southern border of the Amazon Rainforest, there I find the ruins of a giant statue, it is 4,000 feet tall, twice as tall as the Burj Khalifa, so I use my fae magick to take posession of the statue, and use it to walk through the Amazon, until I reach the border of Panama, and that's about when I woke up.

KATARA (V.O.): Each leg brings a new challenge, testing agility, navigation, and endurance. But when it’s all said and done, speed is the name of the game.

SOKKA (V.O.): The racers are making their way to the runway now. Twenty-seven contestants have been selected. Folks, a step onto this field is a step into history.

(All of the racers are ready to start. Now they’re just waiting for the starting signal.)

ZUKO (V.O.): All the predictions, all the pageantry, all the preparation, it all comes down to this moment. One of these racers is about to fly off into the pages of sports history and become a champion.

(The starting signal is a green flag held by Majestia, which she raises.)

MAJESTIA: (OVER MIC) Go!

(At the drop of the flag, the racers roar forward.)

National Museum of Fine Arts - GUSTAVO DALL'ARA

About the artist In 1881, he entered the Venice Academy of Fine Arts in Italy, where he attended regularly until 1883 and lived with the so-called “Realist Success of Popular Venice”, among the artists considered Academic, from the Second Half of the 19th Century, who portray the daily life of the time and the popular affairs of people with great realism.

The choice of colors, the vivacity of the subjects portrayed, the ability to capture glimpses and the lighting effects of popular life, are the characteristics that made him a much appreciated artist by the general public.

In Venice, he worked as a draftsman and caricaturist for the periodical Sior Tonin Bonagrazia.

In Brazil, he lives in Rio de Janeiro where his first job is as artistic director and designer of the weekly “Vida Fluminense”.

In 1893 until 1895, alongside the engineer Aarão Reis, he participated in the commission to plan and build Belo Horizonte, the new capital of the province of Minas Gerais, in the old Curral d´El Rei. The realistic character of his work, with the quality photograph, which made him participate in the team, can later be seen in the architectural watercolor of the Nossa Senhora da Salette Sanctuary Parish, still without its stained glass windows.

Awarded a 2nd class medal (silver) at the VIII General Exhibition (1901). In 1904, he decorated one of the rooms in Vila Itararé, in Petrópolis,

Museu Nacional de Belas Artes - GUSTAVO DALL'ARA

Sobre o artista Em 1881, entrou para a Academia de Belas Artes de Veneza na Itália, onde que frequentou regularmente até 1883 e conviveu com o chamado “Sucesso Realista da Veneza Popular”, entre os artistas considerados Acadêmicos, da Segunda Metade do Século XIX, que retratam a vida cotidiana da época e os afazeres populares com vivacidade das pessoas com grande realismo.

A escolha das cores, a vivacidade dos temas retratados, a capacidade de captação de vislumbres e os efeitos de luz da vida popular, são as características que o fizeram um artista muito apreciador e pelo grande público.

Em Veneza, trabalhou como desenhista e caricaturista do periódico Sior Tonin Bonagrazia.

No Brasil, reside no Rio de Janeiro onde seu primeiro emprego é de diretor artístico e desenhista do semanário “Vida Fluminense”.

Em 1893 até 1895, ao lado do engenheiro Aarão Reis, participou da comissão de para planejar e construir Belo Horizonte, a nova capital da província de Minas Gerais, no antigo Curral d´El Rei. A Gazeta de Notícias, de 07 de junho de 1905 divulgou um polêmico incêndio que destruiu sua casa, em local distante onde a ajuda dos bombeiros demorou, e a água não teve pressão suficiente.

Porém, no Correio da Manhã e no Jornal do Brasil as notícias são que Dall'Ara foi detido para averiguações, e solto somente após apelação, com suspeita que tenha colocado fogo para receber o seguro, realizado uma semana antes.

Após o corrido uma referência de endereço do pintor é à Rua Doutor Rego Barros, nº 65, no Santo Cristo, na entrada do morro da Favela do Morro da Providência.

As metamorfoses vividas pela cidade são narradas nas obras de Gustavo Dall’Ara, algumas de maneira mais explícita como a temática favela que, a partir de 1910, torna-se recorrente, com luminoso cromatismo, beleza e dignidade, retratando os excluídos numa sociedade pós-escravocrata, com negros, sem direito a terra e fora do mercado de trabalho, ocupado por imigrantes, a quem restou a habitação nas favelas próximas à região central onde faziam “Bicos”.

Antagonicamente no Salão Nacional de Belas Artes de 1913, Dall’Ara, expôs telas da Favela:

Portador de epilepsia é acometido por um mal mais discriminatório nesta época: a sífilis. Com o agravamento dos males, em 1923, diagnosticado com uma complicação da sífilis que invade o sistema nervoso, atingindo o cérebro, é internado no Dispensário Afrânio Peixoto e transferido a Hospital-Colôniade Psicopatas de Vargem Alegre no Rio de Janeiro, onde suicida-se, atirando-se do alto do segundo andar do pavilhão masculino.

No livro, “Pequenos estudos sobre Arte” de 1926, Moises Nogueira da Silva dedica um capitulo ao artista que tambem teve uma importante biografia editada por Laudelino Freire, em 1915, trazendo relatos e informações do próprio artista. Em 1986, Ronaldo do Valle Simões, Umberto Cosentino e Sandra Quintella, publicaram um livro biográfico de Gustavo Dall´Ara.
