Tag 10 - ein Schloss und unser lang ersehntes Ziel: die Isle of Skye.

Die Sonne scheint und wir stehen an einem See. Der See ist kalt. Das weiß ich, weil wir darin baden, sozusagen duschen waren. Nach dem Frühstück gehts zum Eilean Donan Castle. Eine wunderschöne Burg in einem großen See. Und wir sind nicht allein: das hier ist eine waschechte Touriattraktion. Wir wandeln durch die Räume und lernen, dass die Burg 200 Jahre eine Ruine war und erst im letzten Jahrhundert wieder aufgebaut wurde. Wir fahren weiter und befinden uns nach gerade mal 20 weiteren Minuten auf der Isle of Skye. Ich fühle mich wie auf den Lofoten, hohe Berge, weite Wiesen und das Meer direkt neben der Straße. Wir halten in einer kleinen Stadt und gehen zum Bäcker. Das ist hier echt eine Seltenheit. Hier gibt es Brot, Scones fürs Frühstück, einen Brownie für später und eine gebackene Kartoffeln mit Käse und Bohnen für mich. Franz sucht sich natürlich auch was zum Mittag. Danach fahren wir weiter zu einem Wanderparkplatz und starten unser heutiges kleines Hikeventure. Wir folgen einem Pfad durch eine dramatische Landschaft immer mit dem Ziel vor Augen: The Old Man of Storr - eine Felsnadel. Nach gerade mal einer Stunde stehen wir auf einer Felsformation und betrachten die imposanten Steine. Wie immer ist es windig und so gehen wir wieder zurück, dieses Mal über einen anderen Pfad. Danach fahren wir zu unserem Schlafplatz, der direkt am Meer liegt. Gerade ist die Sonne untergegangen und der Himmel ist in rosa getunkt.

Hamed Nawed is a poet and lyricist. He resides in Washington DC.

Vocalist Haider Salim recorded this poem in 1993 at Ariana Studio in Burke, Virginia.

That generation of diaspora remained nostalgic about the Kabul of the 1960s-70s— many never returned.

Kharabat is the historical musicians’ quarter dating back to the 1700s.

The valley of Parwan, north of Kabul, is a picturesque location that many Kabulis picnic.

Istalif is a hamlet north of Kabul; its name derives from the Greek word σταφύλι, meaning grape.
