If it weren't for our @hikeitbaby friends, I'd never get to explore fun new trails, at least not without all the whining! Hiking with friends is the secret to hiking with your kids! Dragon hiked 5.5 miles and 1400'+ elevation gain at THREE YRS OLD bc we hiked with his friends! Last year at 4 yrs old he hiked 6.5 miles bc we hiked with his friends. They keep each other happy and busy playing along the way. Sure you can bribe kids with snacks and treats but my kid is sugar sensitive and he can only be bribed for so long. Friends are key! TODAY is my 4 year anniversary with Hike it Baby and I can't adequately explain how much HiB has changed my life completely. I was so lonely sitting at home and tired of being ignored or walked away from at parks. I just wanted to make some mom friends and socialize my son. I couldn't understand why it was so hard to do. I eventually searched something outdoors and found #hikeitbabysaltlakecity. I attended a hike at Silver Lake up at Brighton and was comforted to see everyone was nervous and just wanted to make new friends and hang out outside together. I felt at home immediately, mainly bc of the guidelines: everyone is always invited, no judgements allowed, we hike together, at the slowest hikers pace, stop for any reason and never leave a hiker behind. As a plus size mama who gained 85 lbs while on bed rest during pregnancy, this was the group for me and I wanted to get involved! I signed up to be a Branch Ambassador for SLC and started hosting hikes. After a few months I created #HikeitBabyUtahCounty with a friend since we both lived in Provo. I finally found my People, my Village to raise my son with. We not only hike together, but encourage and support each other outside of HiB. These moms are my sisters and their families have become our family! Four fun filled years later, life is an Adventure and I hope not only to inspire other families to get outside but to join us, meet some awesome friends not only for you but for your entire family! Stop lurking and come play with us outside! Special Thanks to Shanti Hodges @hikingmyway for creating this amazing organization that I'm so proud to be a part of! Thanks to my very good friend @wobetxela we went on a fun adventure and camped at Anderson Cove campgrounds on Pineview Reservoir this weekend. I would not have been able to go camping with one working hand if it weren't for Amazing Friends, so thank you Alex for being my right hand this weekend and the past few weeks since my surgery! I have never been to or known about Pineview Reservoir until recently and I was super excited to find the beach was much like Bear Lake and because it's fall already, we nearly had the place to ourselves!
