[fanfic] Wedding Grotto

Juudai slipped his hand into Yubel’s, squeezing a little as he did, and together the two of them entered the dark, quiet grotto. He hadn’t ever been here before, but with every step he took, he felt as if he were returning home.

He knew why, but tonight it didn’t feel as if it mattered. Tonight, all he really cared about was Yubel and what they were about to do.

Yubel stayed in step with him as they walked down the pathway. The corridor here had been crafted long ago to be large enough to accommodate those of any size. In a realm where people from as small as his ankle to twice as tall as he was could come for their vows, it only made sense that everyone could be accommodated.

Soft carpet lay underneath their feet. Juudai loved how it felt, wriggling his toes a little. He’d removed his shoes before they entered this place – that was tradition. No one ever acme shod into this place. He probably could have gotten away with it, but he didn’t want to try.

Underneath the carpet rested wood and stone intermixed. The walls arched up over them to the ceiling, mirroring the wood and stone. Gemstones rested every ten paces or so, each glowing a soft, gentle color to light the way – red, yellow, orange, green, blue, indigo, and violet, then the cycle repeated itself with the next set of stones.

Neither spoke as they approached the end. That too was tradition – that no one said a word once they passed the entrance and before they reached the main grotto. Here was a time and a space of utter silence, meant for those who walked it to contemplate themselves and those they came here with, to ensure that they’d made the right decision.

Juudai knew very well that he’d made the right choice when it came to Yubel. Yubel chose to be his guardian forevermore, no matter what happened. He knew that they loved him; that they’d loved him since before the transformation. He’d never questioned their choice of never being exactly male or female, even before the change into a dragon. It hadn’t ever made a difference to him.

Again he squeezed Yubel’s hand, enjoying how it felt in his, so much larger and stronger. Yubel smiled down at him. If they could have reached, Juudai suspected they would have ruffled his hair. Yubel liked to touch him. He certainly had no qualms about being touched.

But their free arm remained on the other side and neither really wanted to let go. That wasn’t tradition but he wasn’t going to release Yubel until they emerged from here.

At the end of the corridor there hung a curtain of deep green vines and leaves woven together. As they approached, the curtain pulled back. No one could see who did it. Juudai could feel that no one was there to do it. The curtain moved because they were there and it was time for it to move.

Without a breath of hesitation they passed where the curtain hung and into the true grotto beyond. The ceiling rose high overhead; even Yubel wouldn’t be able to touch it unless they flew to the top. The walls encircled them, wide as well, with the implication that this was both the entire world and a grotto just big enough for the two of them.

A small stream flowed to one side. Light softly pulsed from a source no one could see, giving just enough so they could see one another. Underneath their feet the ground was now dotted with soft moss and flowers that sent up a glorious aroma that filled the air.

There was a sense that something watched them here. There was no judgment – the awareness only watched. Juudai knew if he tried he could feel it both ways. He would be the watched and the watcher. But he didn’t try doing that, not right now.

Together they moved forward, then turned to face one another and taking their free hands, holding them at shoulder-height. A slender flame burst into existence between them, one that held itself there without any visible means of support. It cast no shadows – not that it needed to. The grotto held all the shadows that were necessary.

Juudai took three long, deep breaths. Then he began.

“I will love only you, Yubel. I swore that one already but I do it again, here and now, forever. You are mine and I am yours, and there is nothing that will ever change that. There is no one that I will ever want the way that I want you and no one else that I will love as I love you. We are one, and if ever I can make that more than mere words, I will do so. It doesn’t matter how long I live or how many lives we live. I love you.” He’d worked hard on crafting his wedding vows since he’d asked if Yubel wanted to do this.

Yubel’s eyes shone, reflected in the dancing flames and the surrounding shadows, and he wondered if there were tears there. But Yubel spoke and their voice was as strong as ever.

“I love you, Juudai. I loved you before this happened and I will love you forever after. I protect you because I love you. No one will ever harm you while I exist and should anyone try, I will ensure they regret the attempt. You are the savior of all that is and I will protect you from the Light of Ruin, the Darkness of Nihility, and whatever else might attempt to harm the life you have brought into being. For all time, for all lives, for now, and forever, until the very end of the universe and beyond, I love you.”

Juudai released one of Yubel’s hands and put his down. There he found a crystal goblet of some of the finest wine, which he raised first to Yubel’s lip. Yubel sipped the traditional three sips, then with their free hand, took the goblet and held it to his own lips. Juudai sipped, and Yubel set the wine goblet down. If they’d looked, it wouldn’t have been there anymore. In accordance with its nature, it existed only for those moments it was needed.

Now Juudai wrapped his fingers once more around Yubel’s and leaned in to rest his wine-touched lips to theirs. Yubel returned the kiss, pulling him closer, releasing his hands and wrapping arms and wings around him. Juudai leaned in, breathing deeply, hardly believing this happened, and yet so pleased that they were there, that they were together, that this had happened.

Together they headed back down the corridor. Save for the sound of their own voices when they spoke their vows and the faint trickle of the stream, there hadn’t been any other sounds in the grotto. One could fail to realize at all that it rested in the heart of the royal city. It wasn’t the only one of its kind; there were plenty of marriage grottoes all throughout the realm, and probably beyond. But this was the one for the members of the royal family, and so there Juudai chose to pledge his vows.

Only a few waited for them outside – King Aodh and Queen Kaien, a few of his royal bodyguard. Aodh smiled at the sight of them.

“My dear son,” he declared, as proud as he must have been when he and Juudai’s mother did the same thing in their youth, “you’ve completed your vows?”

Juudai’s grin lit his face, bright as the stars in the sky. “Yeah!” The two of them held their arms up and around their wrists were the slim silver and black bands that indicated a successful bonding. Neither had noticed the bands coming into existence – because they didn’t until those who’d pledged their vows stepped out of the grotto.

Cheers broke out from the viewers – Elemental Hero Bubbleman and Featherman most of all. Burst Lady and Lady Heat merely both nodded, while the others murmured in approval.

“We have the feast waiting for you,” Queen Kaien told them, her smile of greeting as pleased as her husband’s. “Are you ready for it?”

Juudai’s stomach roared in agreement at the mere mention of food. Yubel snorted softly.

“Your Majesty, when have you ever known Juudai to not be ready to eat?”

Everyone there knew that Juudai’s constant appetite came from the fact every aspect of his life force drew on the Gentle Darkness. He channeled a lot of power just by existing and he needed to replace it somehow. That in no way meant Yubel wouldn’t tease him about it.

Together they started up towards the castle, Yubel and Juudai still hand in hand, ready to start on a life together – an infinite amount of lives, in point of fact.

Lives involving promises both broken and kept, in ways that neither of them could imagine.

The End

Notes: They’ve been married a long, long time. No “til death do us part” here. Their love is not severed by death.

GX Month Day 19: “I Was Here Too!”

GX has a vast array of unique characters, some of which we only saw once. Pick a “one shot” character and show them off!

WELP. Warning for minor character death.

Headcanon: ...too many to list. Oo, actually, no, I got one. The Gentle Darkness has favored the color red throughout all their incarnations.

Credit where credit is due, I got the name ‘Rune’ from @higuchimon​ and asked if I could use it too because I freaking love that name. As I’m sure you’ll be able tell, this is a vastly different character from the one they write. Also go check them out! They have amazing fics!

“Gather the prisoners!”

Rune didn’t think he could strain his muscles further, but when the shout rings out, he finds out he was wrong. All of his muscles freeze and lock in place, stretched taut with tension and screaming in agony, but unwilling to relax.

He’s trembling.

“Relax,” the man, Larz, whispers in his ear, a heavy hand on his shoulder and Rune flinches because everything hurts. Their captors - those creatures - work all of them from sun up to sun down with backbreaking labor, and Rune barely ever held anything heavier than book before being here.

Larz is probably the only reason he’s still alive. Rune still doesn’t understand why the man chose to stick with him when there are so many of his own comrades he should be looking after. But then again, Larz and his friends are all warriors. Everyone here is a warrior except for Rune. He still doesn’t understand how he got here. One minute he was walking peacefully alongside a wagon from the caravan; the next was utter chaos as the air itself split open and monsters charged out. Rune was knocked unconscious and woke up here in a cell with the ugliest face he’s ever seen leering at him. He hasn’t seen any of the other caravan members since.

Rune met Larz shortly after, the older man startling at the sight of him enough to whisper, “It’s you.”

Whatever the hell that means. At the time, Rune’s panic decided “where are we?” was a better question, and he still hasn’t gotten up the nerve to ask or tell Larz “I’m not who you think I am” simply because he knows he’d be dead if not for the man’s support. Any guilt Rune might have felt about lying pales in comparison to his desire to survive.

So he tries to relax but his shoulders are bunched and stiff and he’s fairly certain he physically can’t relax them because he’s forgotten how.

Thankfully, he does still remember how to take measured breaths.

The shout came from one of the lower ranked guards; a chaotic scramble ensues as they argue over where the order came from, and Larz gently pushes Rune back and nods to an unattended wagon. They walk toward it as if to pick up the work where it was left, then duck behind it.

There’s a stranger in the camp, obscured head to toe by a plain cloak, and Rune swallows back bile at the sight of the person who’s come out to face the stranger.

Zure, Knight of Dark World, right hand of Mad King Brron - who Rune dearly prays he’ll never have the misfortune of meeting - and the same ugly, terrifying face Rune had woken to that first terrible day of imprisonment.

“This is our chance,” Larz murmurs and Rune jumps.

“Wh-what-” His voice cracks and Larz covers his mouth with a calloused hand even as Rune snaps his jaw shut. That was too loud. He can’t draw attention to himself. He can’t draw attention to himself. The last time he did-

A heavy hand on his shoulder draws him out of the spiral before it can begin.

“How fast can you run?” Larz asks.

For a moment, Rune doesn’t respond. The conversation between Zure and the stranger has grown louder and angrier - well, Zure’s side of it at least; Rune still can’t hear the stranger’s voice. “I don’t know,” he admits. His legs ache, everything aches, and he never built up much physical stamina as a scholar. But if it’s for his life, his freedom, then- “But I want to try.”

Larz meets his gaze, and Rune hopes his determination shows through the fear- because he’s scared, he’s scared out of his goddamn mind. He has been since he got here. But he wants to live. He wants to go back home where Njal is waiting and forget this ever happened, forget about his silly, childish idea to travel the world and find ‘the thing he’s been missing’. It all feels so stupid and childish and whimsical now compared to this hell, compared to the threat of losing his life.

No, no. This is not the time to cry. Stop it, you traitorous tear ducts. You can cry when you’re safe, in a warm bed, with Njal hugging you.

With a nod, Larz reaches out with a glowing hand and snaps the chains that cuff their wrists. Rune feels a tingle, like something is resonating inside him, then the glow fades and takes the feeling along with it.

Most of the guards are distracted now by Zure and the stranger, even the other prisoners don’t pay much attention to Larz and Rune weaving their way across the camp. The few that do, Rune recognizes as Larz’s warrior buddies and aid in keeping the guards distracted.

So much compassion from people he barely even knows-

He sees Larz grab a sword in his peripheral. The gate is right in front of them now and Rune’s heart beats in his ears. They’re so close. They’re going to get out of here. He’s going to go home.

“Oi! Oi! Stop them!”

Rune forgets how to breathe.

Larz roars, yanking Rune forward by the wrist and breaking into a run. Rune stumbles before getting his feet under him. Red splashes in his vision as a goblin falls but Rune barely sees it, eyes focused solely on the vast expanse of desert in front of him. He just has to keep running. His legs burn, his chest aches, it’s hard to breathe-

Something grabs him from behind and Rune screams as he chokes on the collar of his shirt.

“Got you, filthy human!”

No. No! Where’s Larz?!

His eyes finally focus. The man stands several meters ahead.

When did he let go?!

Another goblin lunges and is quickly felled by the sword in Larz’s hand. Rune’s panic gives way to cold dread.

They’ll kill him.

“Run.” The word is barely a whisper; Larz can’t have heard it. Rune still sees the despair in the man’s eyes before he turns and flees.

Good. Good. He’ll be safe. He doesn’t deserve this. Not after the kindness he’d shown to a stranger, whoever he thought Rune was.

I don’t either, a smaller voice whispers in the back of Rune’s mind. He ignores it.

The goblins drag him back into camp. He doesn’t make it easy for them. He kicks and struggles but he’s never been a fighter - only held a sword once or twice while Njal gushed about his work, was always more interested in learning how the world works than throwing a punch. He gets maybe one good swing in and swears he feels something in his wrist crack.

He’s tossed to the dirt at Zure’s feet with soon to be bruises atop already abused muscles. A laugh grates against his ears as ugly, lipless teeth lean over to leer in his face. “Thought you could escape?”

Rune contemplates spitting in his face and decides, however slim his chances, he still doesn’t want to die today.

“Load him up with the others,” Zure orders when Rune doesn’t respond.

‘Others’? ‘Load’? Rune twists to look up and really wishes he hadn’t when he sees a misshapen mass of bone. A wagon, he realizes and feels sick. A wagon with people peering out between the white bars.

The edge of a cloak swishing into his vision. “Wait.”

The ground beneath him flips on its axis and Rune retches as something wrenches inside him as if trying to pull him apart from the inside out. For a brief few seconds, his entire reality consists of pain, nausea, and dancing colors. The sensation fades slowly, leaving Rune gasping against the dirt. He chances a glance up at the stranger, and piercing orange eyes stare down at him from beneath the shadow of his hood. Rune swears the person smiles.

“Not that one. Leave him here.” The stranger’s voice vibrates with an odd resonance that sends a shiver down Rune’s spine. He isn’t human, no matter what his face looks like.

“You have something planned?” Zure asks, ire in his voice but it’s obvious the two aren’t arguing anymore. What’s going on? Where are they taking everyone? Why not him? Who is this guy and why does looking at him make Rune feel sick?

“Yes.” The stranger still stares at him with those orange eyes and it makes Rune’s skin crawl.

“Fine. I’ll listen.”

With a wave of Zure’s hand, Rune is wrenched to his feet by the hair and nearly expels the meager contents of his stomach. He’s too busy fighting the nausea to struggle as the fiend drags him back to a cell. Unceremoniously dumped and arm cuffed to the wall, Rune can only watch and listen as the other prisoners are loaded into bone wagons and rolled out of the camp.

He’s alone and abandoned and in pain and can’t do a damn thing about it. He tugs on the cuff once as nearly screams as his wrist throbs.

He was so close to freedom.

Now is perfectly good time to cry.

Larz makes it back to the hideout in the mountain. Barely. Stumbling to the wooden door, he barely manages to rap out the secret code before collapsing to the stone beneath him. The door flies open as gentle hands pull him in. He can barely focus on the woman’s face.

“Larz,” a rough and worn voice gasps and Larz feels no end of relief to hear that voice.

Twins cries of “Father!” reach his ears next as Kyle and Gina rush him, and Larz’s eyes water.

“I made sure...I wasn’t followed,” Larz says, fighting for consciousness as he’s prompted to lie on a bed roll. He doesn’t protest as the women strip him of his rags to dress his wounds. His children hover nearby and, though he wishes they didn’t have to see him in such a state, he’s glad for their company.

He’s also glad for Freed’s company when the women deem it appropriate to let him join. “Larz, what news?” he asks softly, eyes haunted. Larz wonders if his own eyes look like that.

“Our men are being held in a prison camp to the north,” he murmurs to his friend.

“Was there a boy?” Larz jerks at the appearance of a strange face leaning eagerly over Freed’s shoulder. Freed turns an irate frown at the boy but nothing more, so he must not be a threat. “Blue hair. Strange clothes?” He plucks at the brightly colored garment he wears.

Larz’s breath sticks to his throat. The boy’s clothing is strange, far stranger than even Rune’s when he first came to the camp, and yet... “Y-yes. You know him?”

The boy hisses a word through his teeth that Larz doesn’t recognize and spins for the door.

“The candle still burns!” Freed snaps in the ensuing commotion as several other children in similarly brightly colored garments rush after the first boy. It takes Larz a moment of terror before he realizes the others are trying to stop the boy in red.

Red...? And if he knows Rune... No, it’s far too silly to hope for such a coincidence.

Scowling, Freed stands and Larz grips his arm before he can chase after the strange children. “Freed,” he rasps, consciousness slipping now that he’s safe. “He was there. Our King has returned.”

Freed inhales sharply, and Larz sees it, a tiny flicker of life and hope in his friend’s eyes. “I see,” he says, and pulls Larz’s hand off his arm to rest by his side. “Rest, Larz.”

There are still so many things to say - I tried to save him but they caught us, he’s so weak and frail now, you have to get him out of there - but the words fail him as Larz finally succumbs to exhaustion.

Rune is pretty sure his wrist is swollen. He doesn’t think it’s broken, it’s not discolored (yet) and it doesn’t hurt anymore than the rest of him. The bruises have set and he might as well be one giant lump of pain. He can’t even move without flinching. So he sits there, with his back against the hard stone, arm going numb and tingly as it hangs from the cuff above his head. His mind is foggy from pain but the same pain prevents him from slipping into the blissful dark of unconsciousness.

Basically, life sucks.

“Jesse!”

Rune pries his eyes open and risks looking up at the unfamiliar voice. The blurry shape of a person hovers over him.

Njal?!

“Jesse?”

No. No, that’s not... He looks different. Sounds different. What the hell is a ‘Jesse’?

Palpably excited, the boy chatters on in something distinctly foreign, neither the language from back home or the one spoken here that Rune had picked up in bits and pieces with Larz’s help.

“Who?” Rune manages to mumble and the boy trails off, excitement giving way to uncertainty. A girl with red hair lingers behind him, staring at Rune as if staring through him could answer her questions. Her eyes flicker over the space between them with a deepening frown. The boy looks back at her.

The girl’s hand moves and, despite the aches and pains, Rune jerks against his bonds and cowers against the wall as another monster appears from thin air. His voice shakes as he tries to warn them, but the boy chatters again, hands raised and waving. He doesn't look scared, and that terrifies Rune even more.

The monster looks like a woman - a barely dressed woman - and her mouth falls open at the sight of him. She shakes herself before Rune can decipher her expression and twirls the staff in her hand, saying something in that same foreign tongue.

Rune braces himself for more pain.

“Can you understand us now?”

What? He blinks up at the boy who looks like Njal. There’s a gentle warmth in his eyes, if disappointment. Rune’s eyes flick back to the woman, standing calmly behind the redhead girl, and nods.

“Okay,” the boy says, something in his voice changing. “We’re gonna get you out of here.”

Rune hisses as his injured wrist is freed from the cuff and steels himself as the boy pulls his arm over red draped shoulders and helps him stand. The bruises have not done his aching muscles any favors. Clenching the red fabric between his fingers, Rune rides out the urge to scream. The boy waits for his breath to even before prompting him forward.

They’ve barely taken a step when the girl spins around, air hissing through her teeth, and backs away from the entrance to the cell. “Jay, we got problems.”

The boy - Jay? - tenses beneath Rune, his grip tightening ever so slightly. “Problems?” he asks like he doesn’t actually want to know.

“This was a trap,” the woman says, keen eyes fixed calmly on the exit - their only exit - as she flexes her fingers around her staff.

Rune’s breath hitches as the boy shifts again. He...was left as bait? For these two? Or just anyone unlucky enough to find him? No. He doesn’t want that. He didn’t want Larz to risk himself and he certainly doesn’t want a pair of complete strangers risking themselves for his sake. He’s about to voice as much when the boy reaches for the girl’s shoulder with the hand not keeping Rune on his feet.

“I’ll distract them. Get this guy out of here.”

The girl spins around. “Jaden--”

“I can handle this,” the boy says. “I won’t start a duel if I don’t have to; I’ll just stall long enough for you guys to get out.”

A duel...? A fight? He’s actually talking about fighting those things? Rune’s breath stutters and the boy mistakes it for fear - well, it is fear, but not that kind of fear - because he murmurs a gentle, “Hey, it’s okay, you’re gonna be fine.” To the girl he says, “I still gotta find Jesse, so I can’t die here, right?”

So ‘Jesse’ is the name of a person who apparently looks like Rune? After the month he’s had, he’s just gonna roll with it.

The girl sighs - Rune can’t tell if it’s resignation or relief - and offers her arm. Again, Rune considers telling them to leave him and get out of here, but the four of them are already cornered and Rune still doesn’t want to die. So he grits his teeth as his weight is shifted from one person to another and doesn’t stop the boy from walking out to face what waits.

“What’s your name?”

Rune startles at her voice by his ear. She stares at him as if searching for something. “Rune.”

Her eyes flicker, but she smiles as she nods and repeats his names as if committing it to memory. “It’s nice to meet you. I’m Christina. We’re gonna get you out of here.”

There are so many things he could say to that - why, you don’t even know me, please don’t hurt yourself for my sake - but he’s scared and he wants to go home. “Thank you.”

Voices filter in from outside as they slowly creep up to the edge of the cell and Rune shakes as he hears Zure’s voice. He tries his best to block it out, but he still catches snatches and the confirmation that he was in fact left as bait makes him feel sick. He holds his breath as Christina carefully pulls him from the cell but Zure faces away from them, and Christina begins to slowly lead him past the inattentive fiends towards the exit while Jaden chats it up with Zure like this is a regular Sunday night.

It would be admirable if it wasn’t terrifying.

Christina’s eyes are focused on the exit, but Rune’s are on Zure, so he sees the blade swing toward them, sees the lightning crack off it’s surface. He plants his feet, yanks his arm from her grasp, and shoves.

Then Rune’s entire existence is consumed by burning pain.

Someone screams. It might be him.

He never feels himself hit the dirt.

Everything is white when his eyes flutter open again. White and blistering pain and a voice without words- O-oh. He knows that voice.

I found you.

The voice wraps around him and it’s warm and that should hurt but it doesn’t, it’s soothing and loving and urges him to rest. His eyes flutter as he sinks into the warm light.

Wait.

Njal. He’s still waiting.

But the voice urges him to rest and so he does.

Lol, well I guess I’ll have to see what’ll happen with him. He seems much quieter so far than Roget at any rate. I dunno if he can top trying to suck an entire city into a limbo dimension out of petty revenge though. That’s a hard one to beat. ^^;;

Weekend Writing Goals

For Today (Friday): Ahhh friday is has finished for me, it’s 2 am and I’m close to going offline to sleep. I would say, I don’t think I would have had goals for today, unless you take into account original writing, if we do then I wanted to post a little scene in my series of scenes and I did~

This Weekend: I would say many tend to have more free time during the weekends, but for me it’s the opposite; as it is during the weekends that we have the habit of seeing my brother and him coming visit. So I very rarely have any sort of goals set up for a weekend, although ironically sometimes I will have a random, high level writing mood before it’s time to go offline. Still, my goal is more about relaxing and charging up!

The Week Ahead: I have plans with my original writings, I need to catch up a bit on my french translations; but I do feel like I’ll want to work on fanfics as a break from translation. I have a few different things I wish to do fic-wise, and no real priority, so I could do any of those (or multiple of those)~

Finish up my general ABO worldbuilding

Write a character study for Wei Wuxian (introspection on everything romantic&sexual)

Work on the next chapter of Shadows Symphonie (MDZS)

Work on next chapter of Meet me Halfway to the End (DGM)

Work on next chapter of Assassin’s Light (DGM)

Work on the next chapter of Rise of the Walker (DGM)

Work on the next chapter of Bring me to life and/or Make it RIght (DGM)

Start to write a continuation to No one else but you (MDZS)

Indulging in writing for a DGM&MDZS crossover (Noah!WWX, after body-offering ritual as main story, alternate stories with earlier Awakening)

There’s a slight chance I might work a tiny bit on each of these, but more likely, I’ll focus my energy on one or two things. There’s a small chance I end up not having much energy to do any of these but, I do want to try getting my butt to work small steps by small steps again so!!

I take the guess it’ll be easier to work on MDZS stuff, as well as the ABO, but we never know. At least I made myself a check-list now~!

hi I have a big problem with how Anzu is written in yugioh and I wonder how much you agree. She is so weak and helpless and i wish the anime gave her more important and more mature nature and more complicated personalty. She is even worse in fanfiction! Everyone writes like they hate her or she is like really girly and damsel in distress. How would you write her different? have you seen anyone write her better. Sorry i am new to your page if you answered this question already

Hello anon. I don’t believe I have this type of question before, so no worries.

I strongly disagree on Anzu is weak and helpless. She has a badass, take no shit attitude in season 0 yugioh (both anime and manga). Not only she defended Yugi from bullies, she also bashed the globe on a brainwashed professor so they can escape from Shadi’s control, guided the group in Death T to avoid falling blocks. Oh, it happen offscreen but she even punched a man for touching her butt at work and got fired from it (manga based). Her badass attitude got really toned down and got reduced into a love interest role, which I have to admit as an Anzu fan, I’m disappointed on Anzu’s wasted potential. I can see why some people aren’t fond of Anzu and seeing her as a non action girl if people are not familiar with season 0 Yugioh in both anime and manga. The creators were more focused on Joey, Yugi, and Seto’s character development more so than female characters. Shounen anime (at least back in the 90’s), are more focused on male characters since their intended main audience are young boys. Female characters were used by creators as as eye candy and have limited roles that are stereotypical. For example, love interest, clingy jealous girl, the nagging wife, etc.

Despite that her badass attitude is toned down from season 0, she is strong. I just wish that the creators expand more of her character and have more complicated personality. She’s certain of her future as a dancer for a 16 yer old which is impressive. How many 16 years old already knew what they want in the future? Many adults don’t know what they want in their 20’s. She’s adventurous, headstrong, and confident. Season 0 Yugioh revealed that she’s the type of person that believe one can make one’s future rather than passively get through life. She rejected the fake psychic’s services and said something like “That I can make my own future and see it for myself.”

She helped both Yugi and Atem open up more, find Atem’s past by suggesting to go to the museum, supported her friends to go on when they want to give up, doesn’t take Seto’s attitude, and discover Atem’s name. If it weren’t for Anzu discovering Atem’s name, Atem would lost to Zorc.

I saw people wrote Anzu pretty well as a well rounded person and doesn’t fall into the homophobic girl/slut shaming for the fan’s shipping, damsel in distress, or make her a villain. I have some fanfic recs that has Anzu as a well rounded person. Some fanfics have shipping and I tagged them.

If I were to write Anzu for a story, I would expand Anzu’s backstory on how she and Yugi became friends. I would expand more on how she is independent & adaptive from the traveling due her family’s work. I would write her as a headstrong woman, while trying to avoid making her short tempered. She’s an expressive person and is not afraid to show her emotions. However, she is not easily flustered unless it’s someone she likes or in extreme situations. Once she’s more comfortable with someone she likes, she’s not easily flustered. Being emotional does not make a person weak. She’s emotional, but as a dancer, she is able to express her emotions as well staying calm in stressful situations considering that she has to do dance auditions for scholarships. In the manga, Anzu is the one in charge for leading the group to avoid the falling blocks at Death T. I would write her as a strong person yet have insecurities when it comes to love.  She can be naive with trusting people too much, but she’s not taking shit from someone who mess with her. If a man cat calls her or say something sexist, Anzu would respond back with a sassy atttitude or call him out for cat calling.

Oh man - I know soooooo many

acktacky has a ton of great ones, everything from sweet oneshots to heartbreaking chapter fics. gouguruheddo on ao3. The Game and A Brief Reprieve are some of my favorites. How It Came to Be is an exploration of Daisuke and Ken’s relationship within the context of the epilogue; extremely sad, but one of the most real fics I’ve ever come across. (There’s a cuteprologue for it by insertlokihere called Let’s Go) And Never Alone was written for me so of course I love it. ^_^ More a focus on the digimon, but there’s some daiken in there.

Drive Me Crazy is one of my favorites. It’s long, and also seems to have been abandoned, but it’s really well-written. NSFW for sex and some violence.

Don’t Lose Yourself by fiones is another big favorite of mine. It’s mostly quiet and introspective, with Daisuke working out his feelings while Ken waits for him to come to a conclusion. It’s really sweet and there’s some cute stuff with the digimon. Also Like Home by the same author is really cute.

Public Eye by A Hidden Path is a short, sweet look at what happens when Dai and Ken’s relationship is picked up by the press. A Gentleman’s Wager is also super cute; a little Daiken, but has several other ships and is mostly general adorableness.

Through Time and Under the Bleachers by heartspocky are adorable and super fluffy, Dai and Ken finding ways and places to just be together.

Walking in the Dark is an older!Daiken story where the two meet in college and fall pretty fast during a party. There’s only one chapter so far but I like it a lot.

Higuchimon has a loooooot of 02 stories, but my favorite one is Just by Chance. another older!kids fic, where Daisuke is selling ramen noodles and Ken is a detective, and Daisuke stumbles upon the guys Ken has been looking for.

Butterfly Thoughts by WerewolvesAreReal isn’t explicitly daiken, but it does feature Davis supporting Ken pretty hardcore. Trigger warning for themes and discussions of suicide. The author has a lot of great Digimon fic in general; If Memory Serves (mine’s not so reliable) is one of my absolute favorites.

dense is one of the funniest daiken fics I’ve ever read - but it’s a really strange, dry sense of humor. It’s not often you find really well-written stuff in second person. The second chapter is from Kari’s point of view, and is definitely worth the read.

The Rider is short and steamy, just not really until the very end. Most of it is introspection.

Loose Ends is a really short and sweet look at their relationship.

A Kingdom of Parallel Lines is extremely short, but it refers to Daisuke as a “personified earthquake” and I just love that so much.

It’s always so cold is another short one - a sweet and sad look at Daisuke’s homelife and Ken’s reaction. 

Love What I Love is pure Christmas fluff.

If Wishes Were Horses will tear your heart out. Another older!verse fic with a very sad ending.

The Prince and the Haunted Chamber is super indulgent, super fluffy and cute medieval AU daiken.

And then you could always read my fics - Advice and Assistance, where Davis turns to Kari for help with Ken. Cry for Help also has hints of daiken, but it’s mostly about Veemon and Wormmon.

I’ve read a lot of daiken fics, but these are the ones I would most recommend.

For the fanfic ask: 1, 3, 13, 15, 18, 20, 27, 28, and 10,14,16, 46 for So Far, So Good? (Forgive me, I am curious by nature and have no self control. Please don’t feel like you have to answer all of these if you don’t want to. ^^’)

I started on this, lost everything I’d already written and had a hard time picking it back up again. So my apologies for the delay and here you are!

1) How old were you when you first starting writing fanfiction?

I’ve been writing in some capacity since I was 8, but I was 12 when I wrote fanfic for the first time. It was a story about the Founders of Hogwarts, it lasted for two pages and has never seen the light of the internet, nor will it ever :)

3) Do you prefer writing OC’s or reader inserts? Explain your answer.

OCs for sure. There are only so many variations of myself I can write and I vastly prefer creating OCs. Sometimes only for minor roles, sometimes for very big ones. I’ve had to cut some of my OCs from my stories, sometimes very late in the editing game, and that always hurts a lot.

13) Who is your least favourite character to write for? Why?

In general I have trouble writing characters I can’t find at least some common ground with. Examples are Jack, Amon and Divine. That doesn’t necessarily mean I don’t like the characters (I like Jack very much), but I have a hard time getting a grip on their voice. 

15) If you write OC’s, how do you decide on their names?

I check a lot of baby name sites :p Usually the names have some kind of meaning that connects to their personality or role in the story, though I do try to keep it something their parents would actually name them. Every once in a while, the name comes to me before the character does, but that’s admittedly rare.

18) Do you have any abandoned WIP’s? What made you abandon them?

A couple that I’ve since taken down. Usually I lost interest, figured the plot wasn’t what I wanted it to be, or my writing had progressed so much that it became old shame.

20) Are there any stories that you wished you’d ended differently?

Hmmm, while there are always things I would’ve done differently in hindsight, I can’t think of any story that I would’ve ended drastically differently. The ending I have is usually one I’m happy with.

27) Do you make a general outline for your stories or do you just go with the flow?

I am a dedicated plantser! I usually have a concept, a general outline of points I want to hit in the story and some character notes, but aside from that, I’m making it up as I go. That means the stories can change drastically. 

(To give an example, One Second Per Second was supposed to end after what is now chapter 24. In the current story, that’s the halfway point.)

28) What is something you wished you’d known before you started posting fanfiction?

Gosh, I’ve always been a lurker so I actually picked up on a lot of conventions before I started posting. I can’t think of anything that I would have been able to change. I would’ve liked my English to be better, but since I learned English through reading and writing fanfic, that wouldn’t have been possible.

10) Why did you decide to end it like that? Did you have an alternative ending in mind?

No alternative endings! SFSG was always going to have a... well, not entirely happy ending, but mostly happy, at least. It’s an intrinsically optimistic story and I don’t think I ever made any secret of the fact that it would have a good ending. Let’s just say I’m definitely not a fan of tragic endings just for the sake of tragedy.

14) How did you come up with the title?

The title comes from the very first line of Shasta (Carrie’s Song) by Vienna Teng. The song itself has very little to do with SFSG but it’s a lovely song that I greatly enjoyed at the time and still do today.

16) How did you come up with the idea?

At the time,  the idea of a Good Light as a counterpart to Judai’s Good Darkness had already come up several times in discussions with a couple of people (among which @higuchimon​ and @silvormoon​). The rest of it just grew organically from that idea. 

46) I really loved your fic. If you were ever to do a sequel, what do you think might happen in it?

Thank you! I’m still amazed by how much love this fic gets even years later.

I actually did plan for a sequel once upon a time, though I fear it’ll never get written. In it, the Light of Hope, still split between Yubel and Johan, is trying its hardest to reunite, something that would also merge Yubel and Johan. And well... it has no idea why either of them or Judai would have an issue with that.

Digimon Adventure 02

Non-epilogue compliant: fics where the epilogue (and now that they exist, Tri and Kizuna) isn't going to happen. Non-canon ships (most often Ken x Daisuke & Taichi x Yamat0) abound. Fics seldom related to one another unless otherwise noted.

Loss, Gain, & Other Heartaches: A new enemy brainwashes a lot of human Chosen and their partners, after destroying the original twelve's patners, leading to the Digimon's data being merged with the Chosen's.

Division of Destiny: What if Vamdemon turned Sora into a vampire and from there defeated the Chosen? Well, he ended up turning Taichi, Jou, & Mimi into vampires as well, while imprisoning Hikari and giving Yamato, Takeru, and Koushiro to Piemon and the Dark Masters as slaves. A pesky rebellion formed of Daisuke, Iori, Miyako, Ken, Osamu, and various other charactes tries to fight them. Firm ships are currently just Ken x Daisuke.

When Blood Crosses: Oh, one of my favorites and probably my oldest AU altogether. What if humans and Digimon could have children together? And what if they did already? Seven out of twelve of the Chosen are part Digimon - or more. This is a full-blown multiverse. Stories don't always relate to one another, but the basic concepts tend to be the same. Ships can vary but for the most part are Taichi x Yamato, Jou x Koushiro, Mimi x Sora, Hikari x Miyako, Ken x Daisuke, and Takeru x Iori. Not averse to Piemon x Takeru, either.

Quiet Interlude: Little fluffy pieces featuring Taichi x Yamato in an establihsed relationship during 02 and beyond.

Adaptions: I don't have much written here but I have Such Plans. It will involve Things Happening to Taichi (in season 1) and Daisuke (season 2). It will probably end with Taichi x Yamato and Ken x Daisuke.

Take To The Skies: In this world, some people have wings and can fly. Daisuke is a Flier. The Digimon Kaiser thinks that makes him the perfect pet. But he will need training, of course. Kaiser x Daisuke. Other stories might involve the others who have wings.

Return of Old Enemies: Takeru is captured by two strange Digimon and collared so he can't speak. That's only the beginning of what's going on.

Fragmented Memory: Kaiser x Daisuke. Kaiser has wiped Daisuke's memory and convinced him that they're together. The other Chosen are not happy about this.

Broken Bonds: A soulmate AU featuring Piemon x Takeru. This is also a breeds AU. Piemon murders Patamon and takes Takeru.

Fight To Remember: Kaiser has lost his memory. So has Daisuke. Together, they need to learn who they were, who they are, and who they're going to be. Ken x Daisuke, obviously.

Services Rendeed: Daisuke gets poisoned and the cure lies within territory controlled by the Kaiser. The only way to save him is for the Kaiser to do it. His price - Daisuke himself. To be his until he gets bored with Daisuke. Sadly, the Kaiser isn't easily bored. Ken x Daisuke.

Stirring Shadows: Ken had a very naughty dream about being the Kaiser again and wanting to dominate Daisuke instead of the Digital World. Now, it was just a dream - right? Ken x Daisuke, older.

Scars of Victory: The Digimon Kaiser defeated the Chosen and took Daisuke as his trophy. For seven years he's ruled over the Digital World unopposed, having blocked the older Chosen from entering the Digital World. Now the barriers have dropped - and revenge is best served cold. Ken x Daisuke, brainwashing, off-screen death.

Course of Events: Set in a breeds AU: Vamdemon notices something unusual about Daisuke when he's in line to meet Tailmon and sends him to Piemon, who discovers who and what he is. How interesting. No current ships.

Walking The Edge: The Chosen have fought the Kaiser for years without knowing his true identity. Daisuke has also been dating Ichijouji Ken for years. So when the Kaiser finally reveals who he is - well, Daisuke has a choice to make. And the Kaiser will only allow one.

Dark Brotherhood: breeds AU. Ken, as Kaiser, has discovered that his half-brother is Yamato. Or rather, Anbumon. An alliance is offered. Ships: Yamato x Taichi & Ken x Daisuke.

Danger Zone: The Kaiser is very annoyed at Daisuke's continued existence as his enemy. So he decides to change where Daisuke's allegiance lies. Kaiser x Daisuke.

Hidden Truths: Miyako-centered breeds AU, also involving Jou and his dark side Fuseiimon. No ships centered, but light indicationss of Ken x Daisuke, Jou x Koushiro, and Taichi x Yamato.

Errors of Love: Aged up AU. Daisuke is dating the Kaiser. This is probably a very terrible mistake. KEn x Daisuke.

Magical Educations In Love: Magical school AU. Established ships: Ken x Daisuke, with possible Ken x Daisuke x Takeru.

Shadowed Soul: Piemon x Vamdemon x Takeru. is it love or just sex? Takeru wishes he knew. It's also a soulmate AU.

Melody of the Heart: A world of magic and magical creatures. Loosely a mirror of my breeds verse (and I do mean loosely). Established ships: Taichi x Yamato, Ken x Daisuke, Jou x Koushiro, Mimi x Sora. Others to come.

What He Wants: M rated/non-con, Kaiser x Daisuke. That's pretty much all there is to it. Just a couple of drabbles now but I'll expand it later.

Game of Life: breeds AU. The Kaiser's noticed something about some of the Chosen and wants to know what's going on. Undecided ships.

Bitter Bargains: The Chosen have fought the Kaiser for years. He's shown a rough attachment to Daisuke - kidnapping him on a regular basis. Then one day, Daisuke wakes up to find the Kaiser in his bedroom. Oh, dear. Non-con Kaiser x Daisuke.

Sanguine Bindings: Aged up AU - and Ken's a vampire, who mind-controlled Daisuke from episode 2 onward. Brainwashing/mind control/non-graphic non-con.

Purpose of Existence: Kaiser found out about Daisuke being a very special breed and claimed him for his own. Daisuke doesn't like this but something isn't right - he listens, whether he wants to or not. Aged up/breeds AU. Ken x Daisuke.

Buds and Blossoms: A romance between Hikari and Mimi. That's about it.

No Good Decisions: Daisuke accidently eats something he shouldn't have in the Digital World. It wouldn't be so bad - if the Kaiser hadn't found him and determined that someone needed to watch him. Ken x Daisuke.

Blood Of His Blood: Breed AU. Piemon wants to live again and will ensure that he does, through his oldest son.

For All Time: Taichi's been in an accident and Yamato's not sure when he will wake up. Taichi x Yamato.

Heart of Demon, Soul of Angel: AU where Taichi is an angel and Yamato is a demon. At least it starts off that way. A lot is going to change. Established ships: Taichi x Yamato & Ken x Daisuke.

Bonds & Bondage: Kaiser goes ahead and Rings V-mon. This affects Daisuke, unexpectedly. Now what will the Chosen do? Ken x Daisuke.

Fireblood: Breeds/Firestarter/Healer AU. Vamdemon bites Yamato and awakens his dark side - not good for anyone at all. Taichi x Yamato.

Flaming Ivy: The 02 Chosen are Healers and Firestarters and are working out what that means for them. Ken x Daisuke.

Fair Wings: Some of the Tamers have wings, including Juri, Kenta, and Ruki. Adventunres and romance thereof. Established relationship: Juri x Takato.

Consequences of Games: Just a set of fluffy post-canon fanfics featuring the Chosen playing games and what happens after the games. Firm ships include Kouji x Kouichi and Junpei x Izumi.

Pleasures of Shadows: Yami no Malik has been revived as an incubus.

Crimeland: An AU where there are three Kaiba brothers (Seto, Seth, and Mokuba) and - many other differences I haven't gotten to writing yet. Only set 'ship is Seto x Kisara.

Uncertain Choices: A modern day AU, with Atemu and Yuugi as twin brothers. Only set ship right now is Atemu x Mahaado. If I ever finish the sequel I have in mind, I will add Seto x Yuugi.

Reversal AU: In canon, Juudai has the poewr of the Gentle Darkness. Here, in a world very like Dark World but with differences (such as a sun), he has the power of the Destructive Darkness - and he is pure evil, enjoys it, and has the overall goal of destroying all of creation. A small, plucky rebellion stands against him. Do they stand a chance? Time will tell. Be warned: non-consensual Juudai x Johan, as well as someone becoming a vampire, and many other twisted plot points. I love this AU.

Stronger Than Water: We don't know much about Johan's past. So what if he actually grew up in Dark World, as Brron's adopted son? And was sent to kill Juudai? Firm ships are Yubel x Juudai and maybe Yubel x Juudai x Johan. I havevn't gotten far enough to be sure.

Hell's Ice: What if Ryou were the one taken by Kagemaru and Amnael instead of Fubuki? Well, add in some elemental affinities and we have the Hell Kaiser of Ice - one of the Seven Stars. No set ships othe than Yubel x Juudai, though I am debating a few.

Itch To Scratch: Juudai and Yubel are demons. Johan's an angel - or he thinks he is, anyway. What he really is, he'll find out eventually. Firm ship is Yubel x Juudai x Johan.

Bridges: So, in this series, Juudai's power is that of the Light of Creation. Johan has the Gentle Darkness - and Juudai has been possessed by the Light of Ruin for seven thousand years.

Dead Weight: It's the zombie apocalypse! Ahhh! No set in stone ships yet.

King's Champion: When a late-night break-in goes very wrong, Yubel ends up taking Juudai to Dark World for his own safety. He ends up being raised by Brron. But taking him away from Earth has consequence, both good and bad. Yubel x Juudai. Not ruling out Yubel x Juudai x Johan in the future.

Shadow Demons: Juudai: King of Hell, with Yubel and Johan as his Consorts. Ryou, a demon prince. Fujiwara Yuusuke, a shadow mage with Honest as his guardian angel. Fubuki as an angel of love. Asuka slays evil vampires. And much, much more. Established ships: Ryou x Yuusuke and Yubel x Juudai x Johan.

Echoes: Rewrites of different parts of GX. Currently only the Haou arc, but others to come. Established ships: technically none but eventually Yubel x Juudai.

In The Shadows of the Fae: Juudai is the King of the Fae with Yubel and Johan as consorts, and Shou as his servant. A delicious AU that I enjoy. Established ships: Yubel x Juudai x Johan.

In Chains: Fantasy AU. Brron is gifted Shou as a slave, and Shou has to deal with that. Not easy. Established ships: Yubel x Juudai x Johan & Edo x Ryou x Saiou.

In Any World: A series of non-connected Yubel x Juudai AUs. Each is a one-shot and is in a different AU.

Past and Future: Yubel shows Juudai events that happened in their past lives together, as they forge a new future with one another. Yubel x Juudai.

Sky Stories: A lot of people have wings. Juudai didn't - until he fused with Yubel. Ryou has rusted metal wings - until Edo takes care of them. ANd many more stories. Established ships: Yubel x Juudai x Johan.

To Accept Fate's Will: A soulmate AU. Established ships: Yubel x Juudai, Edo x Saiou x Ryou. O'Brien x Sea God's Priestess.

Hole In Your Heart: Not fighting means that Shou's in danger. Especially when he gets captured and sold to one of Haou's servants. As if his third year wasn't already going downhill. No actual ships that I know of (probable future Yubel x Juudai)

In Space, In Light: Juudai sent Yubel into space to be healed by the Gentle Darkness. In canon, it failed. Here, it worked. Uh-oh. Yubel x Juudai.

Paladin's Quest: post ending series. Ryou dies of heart failure and is reborn as a duel spirit without his memories of his past. But that's going to change, because what he did in Dark World cannot be forgotten.

In Darkness We Find FIre: An AU of my own devising, that I call Healer/Firestarter. Healers can heal & communicate/grow plants, and Firestarters bun things. There are a lot more details than that but this tale is a retelling of canon through that lens. Established ship: Yubel x Juudai.

Politics of Ages: Asuka is a vampire queen with two consorts: Manjoume and Ryou. Lots of vampiric politics.

Infinite Love: A magical AU with soulmates. Features Ryou x Yuusuke, Camula x Ruthven (OC), and Edo x Saiou.

Committed To Her: Kotori is Queen Merag's slave, and devotedly loves her. Merag would like to return it, but it's not that easy. Obviously, a Merag x Kotori story, and an AU.

Cry of Vengeance: Vector wants revenge on Nasch for a long-ago offense, so he attacks Nasch's boyfriend Durbe. But that's not all he wants his revenge on and he has an interesting way to get it. Vampire/slight magic AU.

On Dragon's Wings: Mizael is a dragon. Vector is a prince who becomes a demon. And many other changes for a fantasy AU. Established ships are Vector x Mizael and Alit x Leo.

Inevitable Encounters: soulmate AU and how they deal with it. Established ships: Kaito x Yuuma, Durbe x Nasch, Kotoi x Merag/Rio, Vector x Mizael

Fae Whispers: Durbe x Chris. Chris is a Fae Prince who offers for Durbe to become a Fae Knight.

Blurring: There are multiple ways to detect one's soulmate. Mizael has Vector's name on his right arm and Kaito's on his left - right arm is for the soulmate and left for the enemy.

Beat of Wings: Some characters have wings, including Yuuya, Yuuto, Yuugo, and Yuuri. And Shun. And others. No real ships (that I know of) and Yuuri is going to have fun!

Life With A Demon: Featuring Masumi x Yuzu, Asuka x Selena, and past Selena x Masumi. Demon AU, along with other creatures of magic.

Confusing: Yuuri has captured Shun and is training him to be a warrior of Fusion. Shun would rather not - but his mind is now Yuuri's plaything.

Angels, Demons, and Deciding Factors: Angel/demon AU. Yuuri is a demon, who encounters the angel Shun in his territory. Yuuri decides that he wants this angel for his own - mostly because Shun doesn't want that, nor does Yuuto. M rated/consent issues/brainwashing.

Collars and Keeping: Yuuri captured Shun early in the war and Shun escapes the first chance he gets. But Yuuri won't let him go - and there's a horrible punishment awaiting his pet.

Fae Song: Selena x Rin x Ruri x Yuzu. Selena is a Fae Princess and the others are her servants.

Deadly Daughter: Professor Leo Akaba decides he can't trust Yuuri and thus trains Selena to be his sgent to find and captue the other gils with her face. Selena's girlfriend, Asuka, helps - only seeing what happened in the war turns her away from Fusion. Undecided ships.

Dragon and Falcon: Yuuri's a dragon & Shun's a shapeshifting falcon. Yuuri claimed Shun as a part of his hoard and his servant. And it just seems that dragon saliva does something to shapeshifters. non-con/drugged Yuuri x Shun.

Soulwings: In this AU, when soulmates meet one another (or when one's true purpose is found), wings are developed. So when Kaito and Edo cross paths... Established Kaito x Edo and alluded to Yuuri x Shun.

Strike Hard, Strike Fast: Vampire AU. Sora, Yuuri, and Dennis are vampires. Ruri and Shun are vampire hunters. So when Shun crosses their paths, Yuuri decides to take him for his own.

Opposite Ends: Yuugo is brought to Shingo as his slave. Yuugo doesn't like Shingo. Oh, they're going to have a lot of fun.

Dragonflame and Nature's Spark: A HEaler/FIrestater rewrite of Arc-V, mostly featuring Ryou and Mizael, along with Yuuri and Vector. Ship: Ryou x Mizael, Durbe x Chris, and Shou x Michael.

Honestly, I think some of it has to do with Johan. Johan & Yubel are, at the core, very similar. Devoted to Juudai no matter what, both sacrificing themselves for him without a thought. They even look alike when Yubel was human. So they built up everything between Juudai & Johan & then we have Yubel. "They're so much alike, it's the same thing, right?" No. It isn't. There should have been more. Reading between the lines & hints are fine. But so many of us wanted more.  I want a season 4 where Yubel & Johan talk to each other.   Where Ryou interacts with Edo, Asuka, Fubuki, & Yuusuke.   Where Edo & Saiou talk.  Where Yubel & Juudai talk on screen instead of implied!  More Asuka! Jim!   & if canon won't provide,  I'll do it myself.   Frequently.   But I wish I didn't have to.                    

Hmmm, well that’s an interesting theory. I agree that human Yubel at least does seem kind of similar to Johan’s personality in some ways, from the little we saw of them anyway. And of course there was the whole possession thing so maybe there’s something to it that they thought Johan’s development could be a stand in for Yubel’s.

Yeah, I don’t think it’s necessary for a show to have to always explain every detail to the audience but it feels like GX often left a bit too much up to reading between the lines instead of expanding on things in canon that they really should have. I definitely would have wanted to see all those things for season 4 as well! It especially at least would have been interesting to see what Johan’s reaction to seeing Yubel again would have been and if they would apologize for using him like that. It’s definitely great that some of those blanks can be filled in by fanfiction too, but having it in canon would be even nicer. :\

Yikes.... Honestly, I could easily see him thinking that way, though. Considering the way he is, I think maybe there’s a part of him that wishes he could be as detached and impersonal as the clouds that he sat and watched as he was waiting to die long ago. He can certainly be calculating and impersonal, like with his plan to stop Cobra from killing him by getting a bunch of students unknowingly involved in things as well, but I don’t think he’s actually an evil person. Just someone who’s very damaged and desperate to have some kind of worth in the world, which makes him teeter on the edge of going down a dark path. Which unfortunately it looks very much like he’ll do. :\

Just a note for those who might wish to request fics: I've changed my tag for writing prompts to "higuchimon prompts". I think I have all the posts tagged properly now for that. "Higuchimon asks" is now for just general asking things, not for actual fics to be written. As always, I'm eternally open to new prompts! Because it's not like I don't have 25 prompts already in my inbox as well as over 600,000 words of WIP to do. I am an idiot. I just love prompts.
