do you think the peach scene (cmbyn) or the bathtub scene (saltburn) is worse? on a personal level ofc
I think worse can mean a lot of things, but if you mean worse as in like how gross the scene was then 100% the bathtub scene.
Because that’s what it was supposed to be. The bathtub scene was supposed to be disgusting and make you feel grossed out. Oliver was violating Felix’s boundaries and trust, which is what grossed me out the most, but the physical act is what a lot more people hated, and that’s probably why the writers included it. It crossed a line no normal run-of-the-mill person would cross.
The peach scene wasn’t supposed to gross people out as much. That’s why the lighting was all soft and gentle when he did it. In my opinion, it was supposed to showcase how weird coming of age is sometimes and what discovering yourself actually looks like: it’s weird, and no one wants to admit it. But when Oliver finds Elio out, instead of calling him weird and being grossed out, Oliver makes a joke of it, and when Elio starts crying, he consoles him.
If you mean worse as in like evoking the intended reaction, they were both perfect scenes for me because they did exactly what they were supposed to do for me, but I think the peach scene was a bit less successful to a general audience.
The bathtub scene evoked the feeling of gross obsession. It made me believe that Oliver was so infatuated with Felix and that he was willing to do things that are considered reprehensible and disgusting to get closer to him. He was blinded by that obsession, and he had no moral inhibitions to stop himself from doing these things despite knowing they were wrong. That’s why he waited until Felix left the room. The general audience agrees with this.
Meanwhile, the peach scene showed me Elio’s curiosity and desire to explore himself, and I think that’s exactly what they intended. However, a lot of people don’t want to admit the weird things they’ve done out of curiosity and a desire to explore themselves (whether they’re admitting it to themself or to others or both) so most people’s reactions to the scene are “ewww gross” when I’m sure a majority of people can remember a time when they either did something similar or came quite close to it. I can’t prove that, but I think it contributes to the overall reaction. Either way, I think the peach scene was less successful in translating that message because most people talk about its weirdness like an outsider rather than someone who can relate.
So in conclusion: the bathtub scene was the grosser kind of “worse” which is exactly what it wanted to be so props to that, and the peach scene was the storytelling kind of “worse” because a lot of people couldn’t quite get past the weirdness enough to consider the intended meaning of it. But they were both amazing. I only prefer the peach scene because ✨ pretty colors ✨ and I’ve decided that CMBYN is absolutely my favorite movie of all time now.
So yeah! Thanks for asking :)

do you have a favorite quote from a movie that resonates with you? 🖤
yeah :)
'[...] But then I realized… that's me. I said those things. I did those things. I can live with that.'
this is a half-quote from 'the life aquatic with steve zissou', one of my favorite movies. it's the second half of a longer line murray's character said, but it's this part specifically that spoke to me. self-acceptance, & being okay with how others view you. also, a bonus quote 'cause i love this movie & it had some great lines:
'Are you finding what you were looking for… out here with me? I hope so.'
#watch this movie if you haven't yet#i highly recommend it#it's both funny & pulls at the heartstrings >.<#first half of the quote just if youre wondering:#'Well; I was a little embarrassed at first. Obviously people are gonna think I'm a showboat and a little bit of a prick. But then [...]'#the life aquatic with steve zissou#asks

hi ben maybe this is cheating bc you have a cry counter going but I get the sense you cry when watching other shows or movies as well...like you're deeply struck emotionally by stories in general (btw, I don't think I know your other favorite pieces of media? 👀)
my other assumption is that you love wearing big ol' boots :)
ooooh yeah big time. there are songs I can't listen to while I'm driving because they'll make me cry too much 😭 I cry all the time at everything not even just media. sometimes I just cry about like. birds in the park. the scene in my fic where wei wuxian meets the little girl with the injured bee is inspired by a video I saw about someone who had found a bee without any wings and brought it home and was taking care of it and it made me burst into tears with my love for humanity
and I DO love a good big boot. I wore big boots today in fact
#my big platform docs that cost an amount of money we don't need to talk about 💖#I hate driving in big boots tho#hmm other favorite medias 🤔#I love lotr both the movies and the books#I have many a beloved d20 seasons#tho I generally don't actually watch a lot of shows because I find them hard to get through even when I like them#ough the girl from the other side is one of my favorite manga series and books in general#if you enjoy fantastic world building and intersting heartbreaking commentary on love. highly recommend#as well as really beautiful art!!#oooh and how could I forget wha#I love a lot of ghibli movies and a lot of cheesy horror#and too much music to list in the tags#in general I wish I read more books and watched more movies#because there are so many I think I'd really live but can just never seem to find the time for#anyway LMAO hii ty for the ask :^)#ask#mewts#oh my god this reminded me that I've had a library book due for like a week oops 😭

If look back is getting a movie fr, I swear I’m gonna start bawling rn
#even if you don’t like csm or refuse to give it a go (fujimoto’s one shots are always top tier)#then I’d HIGHLY recommend them for a lot of reasons because oh my god#they’re usually slice of life and even a little wacky but have so much love and emotion put into them#look back made me cry so hard uhhhh#a one shot about two girls becoming best friends over their shared love of drawing#it’s so sweet yet extremely painful#the ending hurts so bad uhhh#fujimoto was cooking#sm artists could relate to both girls especially the MC#being the ‘art kid’ at school and all lmfao#and the struggle with being labeled as that and so much more#if this is getting a short film then please I need a goodbye eri movie as well 😭😭😭!!!#that shit hurt EQUALLY#fujimoto loves to hurt his audience…….#rambling#the layered themes of acceptance growth and understanding….#he’s so good with writing these

there are ten million billion trillion movies i want to watch and so little time on this earth and this suffering predicament of mine is only exasperated by the fact that i can only watch 1 movie a day at most because i need time after to stare at a wall and think about. themes. and motifs
#i think in my entire adult life ive only been able to watch multiple movies in a day if im hanging out with people#cause in that scenario the movies arent the focus for me the hanging out is#also there were two occasions where i watched 2 movies in a day alone. both times with 2 horror movies actually#the vvitch and hereditary. that was a bad idea. the witch didnt scare me or anything honestly i just liked the goat but hereditary#that got me REALLY BAD and not for the actual horror things it was just the watching a very neurodivergnt coded child die that got me#(starting to realize im a little more sensitive to that kind of thing) the rest of the movie was like normal good horror movie stuff#OH and there was the day i watched creep 1 and creep 2 the same day with a 10 minute break between. HIGHLY RECOMMEND that was awesome#that might be the optimal way to watch creep actually. changed my life. fantastic#anyway i just watched 12 angry men. by god they werent lying about that title. it really is exactly what they said on the tin#really liked it! i love dialogue heavy things (apparently this was based off a play which makes sense) and it was super engaging#very interesting how sparing it was with the soundtrack too#now if you'll excuse me i need to. stare at the wall and think about themes and motifs

Dorian made a face at her description, though he certainly couldn't fault her for it-she was right, every step of the planning process was just another stone in the path leading her to being shackled to that monster for the rest of her days...
It honestly made him shudder, imagining this woman, whom he happily considered a dear friend, this bright, vivacious, kind, free-spirited woman, doomed to a life being married to Pennyworth, having to bear him heirs (who would no doubt grow up to be horrid little brats like their father), forever chained to him, unable to escape...
...it was enough to make his blood boil, but he at least took solace in the fact that they were changing that.
In an effort to turn the conversation towards something happier and lighter, he asked her in genuine interest, "What do you see, in yours and Randall's futures, I mean. Would you like to work at his haberdashery with him, would you like to have children together, would you like to travel and see more of the country...anything of that sort, or...something else entirely?"
#((hey; a fellow li'l meatie!! yeah; james really does seem like a genuinely nice; stand-up guy))#((and i not only respect the video he did where he and chelsea made it clear where they stood))#((when it came to the strike; but also making it clear that he won't cover the works))#((of directors like victor salva or roman polanski because of the crimes they've committed))#((and i really respect that! i know what polanski did and i DEFIDENTLY know what salva did))#((and i've refused to watch 'jeepers creepers' as a result; so i respect james's stance))#((and same! his show really is like spark notes for horror movies; because of dead meat))#((i've both gotten to learn more about film series i generally don't want to watch))#((such as the 'saw' franchise; which he makes REALLY funny with his jokes and commentary))#((but the channel also introduced me to a bunch of series that i went on to actually watch in full))#((when i may not have otherwise! i love the running gags; the jokes; and all the rich trivia))#((that he brings to the table; showing how it was all done! it's probably my favorite youtube channel))#((next to dark corners reviews; which involves its host robin bailes covering bad movies in mondays))#((poking fun at them and breaking down what doesn't work; as well as doing streaming reviews on friday))#((covering usually much better movies and giving his personal thoughts on them))#((with some specials about classic films; actors; and directors; i highly recommend his channel))#((as well as 'the horror geek'; who covers a variety of usually terrible splashy horror films))#((with TONS of hilarious running gags and potshots! i highly recommend those))#((if you're ever looking for more fun horror channels to follow!))#outofhatboxes#beatingheart-bride#V:Days of Future Past
