Oh man, okay. So it is a well known fact that 2001 is Kojima's favourite movie, right. And that he *heavily* borrows from it for his games, right.

So David in 2001 has a whole thing in the final act about him rapidly aging, which is mirrored in Metal Gear Solid where Snake, who is named after David from 2001, experiences accelerated aging in MGS4.

Then at the very end of 2001, David turns into a fetus, floating through space. Considering that Death Stranding does borrow its themes of weird time/space shenanigans, life/death, and fetus imagery, it can be inferred that BB/Lou is based on David in his fetus form.

So if both Snake and BB are connected to David from 2001, then Snake and BB are the same person connected through the aforementioned weird time/space shenanigans.

For Day 16 of the event, I used number 24 from prompt 18 for Ronaldo and Draluc from The Vampire Dies in No Time! I absolutely adore this series and I hope any other fans will enjoy 😊

If social media existed in the character’s universe, would they be on it? Which platform(s)?

I definitely do think that social media exists within this world and that both of the characters do use it. Draluc is honestly more skilled at using it than Ronaldo is, despite what people would assume (which is the exact opposite).

I do think that Ronaldo set up Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts for the Ronaldo Agency. They’re there to hopefully spread news about the agency out there, to get more attention and jobs and they do work well enough before Draluc shows up but aren’t really as effective as they could be.

It’s really because Ronaldo isn’t someone who is really great with technology. It’s just not his forte; he can think of catchy posts and words things really well but he’s terrible with photography and the actual use of the apps.

When Draluc comes along and joins the Agency, he really steps in and takes over running the social media aspect. Draluc is good with most mobile apps, has more free time to actually dedicate to making posts, but he has a hard time thinking about what to post related to the Agency, so it really is a cooperative effort.

On top of the Agency’s social media, both Ronaldo and Draluc have Facebook accounts, like nearly 90% of the population. Ronaldo uses his a lot more than most of his other social media accounts, just because it’s the easiest platform to use. Draluc barely ever uses his, except to keep up with his family.

Ronaldo also has a twitter account, and he has a TikTok account. He hasn’t really posted much on his TikTok because again, he’s bad at that kind of stuff but he’s guilty of opening up TikTok because he has some time to kill and then falling down the rabbit hole and the next thing he knows, three hours are gone, oops. I feel like if Ronaldo found tumblr, he’d actually be really into this site and would be able to get the hang of the simplicity of liking and reblogging and making occasional posts of his own.

Draluc has a Twitch account and streams frequently. He honestly does have accounts on all major social media but uses Twitch and Discord the most.

Another joint account the Draluc and Ronaldo run together? John’s TikTok and Instagram accounts.

Some extra notes regarding Nimue's X-Men evo verse ;;

Daisuke { her half brother }, has also technically moved to Bayville New York with her, but they live in separate apartments. Mostly because while Nimue does get along with her brother, she personally doesn't want him doing the whole ' protective ' thing with her. { IE. judging anyone she brings over to visit or whoever she goes to visit/spends time around }

Since they were idols in Japan, upon moving to America her and her brother are attempting to re-establish themselves but are currently stuck doing music covers to be uploaded, some solo, some duo. Mostly because she's not sure if she actually wants to pursue an entire musical career or just do it as a side thing at the moment. Still takes the name Kalypso and goes under a different appearance for this stuff.

For right now, her work is hacking and programming, though she keeps the hacking bit on the down low for obvious reasons { even if it is to improve security for some people } and she'll end up more well known for her programming.

Still doesn't have a very good relationship w/ her father or sister to the point she earned her own money during her work while she was still in school just so she could leave, while she was on the fence for awhile about leaving Japan, she made a final choice when her mother died for the mere sake of not wanting to be around her father. Ever. Plus her sister always seemed to know where to find her, so the further away the better.

It’s been a longstanding headcanon of mine for Piano Man’s real name to be Saburo Moroi, after the famous pianist/composer who was a close friend of the poet Chuuya Nakahara. 

But when I started researching Moroi a bit deeper for the sake of my Flags backstory fic (which I am still writing, shockingly) I learned a new piece of info that added some fuel to my cracked-out fire:

“During his third year at university, Moroi formed a music group “Surya” (the “sun god” in Sanskrit) with his friends. It served as an organization for performing his own works, and by 1931 seven concerts had been given there. His activities with “Surya” brought wider recognition, and it also became a society for young literary men and artists, including Tetsutaro Kawakami, Hideo Kobayashi, Chuya Nakahara, Tatsuji Miyoshi, Hidemi Kon, Shohei O’oka and Kenzo Nakajima, many of whom were later to become renowned literary critics, poets and novelists.”

So not only were Moroi and Chuuya friends and collaborators, they were also part of the same coterie of up-and-coming young men founded by Moroi himself, with a catchy symbolic name and everything.

So now I’m a little more convinced I was on the right track with the whole "Piano Man is Moroi” thing, and my crack theory has evolved into believing that the Flags are a sort of callback to Surya.

25. Technically the Chief has had insider knowledge of V.I.L.E. since long before she ever heard the name of Carmen Sandiego. It’s Dr. Bellum. They’re on the same cat-fancier Internet forum (and sometimes use a subthread to complain about the antics of various trainees/underlings/coworkers). Yet neither of them have any idea whom the other is in real life; each thinks that they’ve simply found a fellow workaholic with a fondness for cats.

26. Hideo and the archaeologist from Casablanca are professional acquaintances who know each other through attending the same academic conferences. They do not know that the strange girl who saved the archaeologist’s life (despite also being somehow involved in the Eye’s theft) and the red-coated thief in Hideo’s museum are the same person.

27. Cookie Booker’s real first name is Maddalena; coincidentally, maddalenas are also a type of Italian cookie (see what I did there XD). The Driver’s first name is Jamila.

28. Jean-Paul used to work as an apprentice tailor in a couture boutique. Socialites in the changing stalls would gossip to each other—about things like when and how long someone was planning to be away from home, or who might have recently acquired some particularly expensive jewellery—and he’d hear all of it from his own position in the fitting room. At first he only supplemented his income by selling such information to various interested parties, but slowly it turned into participating in the thefts himself as his experience with free-climbing made him a natural at breaking into otherwise difficult-to-reach places. Unfortunately the gang he most often sold to/worked with didn’t always care about limiting themselves to bloodless in-and-out burglaries, nor were they interested in paying all members equally. Therefore when V.I.L.E. offered him a place, he leapt at the chance to learn the skills that would make him a truly independent thief.

29. Antonio is from Rio de Janeiro; the bolinhos he brought the others during the alexandrite caper were from his favourite bakery growing up.

30. Standard V.I.L.E. procedure after an operative is mindwiped is to tell them that they had some kind of near-fatal accident which included a blow to the head. The Cleaners are responsible for making it both look and feel real (e.g. causing injuries in keeping with a car crash, leaving bruises consistent with a mugging-gone-wrong, etc), although Dr. Bellum intervened on behalf of her ‘dear boy’ in order to give Graham a less painful out. Having supposedly experienced a catalytic brush with death, the operative would then be primed to accept Bellum’s conditioning towards law-abiding citizenhood (as opposed to returning to the same criminal activities that brought them to V.I.L.E.’s attention in the first place) as their own desire to turn over a new leaf.

31. The art forger from Cleo’s Vermeer dinner party and the counterfeiter from the bayou caper are actually father and son, hence their strong physical resemblance. However, in general V.I.L.E. avoids accepting family members of current operatives due to the risk of someone coming down with a bad case of divided loyalties. Their real names are Arthur and Stuart Forger. (look the pun was just BEGGING to be made I couldn’t resist XDD)

32. Also from the Vermeer dinner party, the red-haired man in the white dinner jacket is Scar Graynolt (mostly because he just looks like a Scar Graynolt, but neither could I resist the opportunity to throw in a reference to the Brøderbund games ;D). The older gentleman on his left is Titus Canby, who enjoys a good lobster but is primarily an expert safe-cracker, while the military man on his right has earned the nickname ‘General Mayhem’. Across the table, the man with vitiligo prefers to be called Baron Westlan (Westilon? Weslyn?), but is less formally known as Baron Wasteland.

33. Chase is so resistant to changing his mind about Carmen because a good friend of his was involved in the Swiss National Bank incident in Bern (from her post-Boston/pre-Poitiers capers) and La Femme Rouge made the entire Interpol team assigned there look like fools. Probably it led to a demotion, and/or some kind of accidental yet significant physical injury that required at least a month of recovery time, and thus Chase is determined to catch her for having left such a black mark on his friend’s record. (I considered Chase being part of the Interpol team instead, but his opening conversation with Julia made it sound too much like he’d been in Poitiers long-term and had never faced off against Carmen before.)

34. Ever since having to cling for dear life to the door of that V.I.LE. truck on Java, Ivy has had a nagging fear of heights.

35. The Driver was the one who sponsored Sheena for admission into V.I.L.E. Academy. She'd visit Los Angeles or Long Beach (or sometimes Las Vegas) to work a street race or two as a way to blow off steam between V.I.L.E. missions, and Sheena would be there to work the men come to bet on the races. Eventually they started recognizing each other’s faces, and Driver stepped in once when one of those men got violent after realizing he’d been grifted. Not that Sheena needed the help, of course, (because she was dangerous long before V.I.L.E. gave her claws) but the assist was—grudgingly—appreciated. They bumped into each other again at a nearby nightclub after the race, and made a little conversation. It... wasn’t entirely unpleasant. After that, somehow they’d find themselves standing together if they happened to be in the same place at the same time, if only to chat with someone who wasn’t purely interested in their cleavage. Neither of them would have called the other a friend (because they weren’t the kind of women who did friendships; Mechie had had to persist her way into becoming an exception for Driver), but there was a certain like-knowing-like respect between them. So when the faculty asked operatives to start submitting candidates for the year, Driver put down Sheena’s name.

Some Carmen Sandiego head-canons, in no particular order:

1. Coach Brunt’s first name is Gloria.

2. Everybody at the academy thinks that that faculty has their favourites, and for the most part that’s true, but Shadow-san has no idea why anyone thought Tigress was his and Countess Cleo doesn’t like any of the students enough to have one. She tolerates Dash Haber because he’s the prettiest. 

3. Graham has always introduced himself as such. Carmen was the one to shorten it to ‘Gray’, and the others picked it up from her.

4. Boris (the shorter Cleaner) is sweet on Cookie Booker. She is completely unaware.

5. Countess Cleo was the most recent elevation to faculty before Shadow-san. Dr. Bellum’s change of hairstyle from bride-of-Frankenstein to actually-pretty-flattering is a direct result of her influence.

6. The academy accepts up to forty students per year; that doesn’t mean there’s forty graduates. Only about sixteen people looked to have made it in Carmen’s original year. Those that fail or are expelled are normally mind-wiped and sent home like Gray. The faculty made an exception for Carmen, another decision Shadow-san opposed.

7. Carmen didn’t know, at least about the mind-wiping. There would just be students who weren’t there the next day.

8. Before they were Tigress and Crackle, Sheena and Graham had a thing in the academy. That’s why she went along with the water balloon prank and didn’t put up more of a fuss about Gray getting them all saddled with detention on Carmen’s behalf. It’s also part of why she has such a grudge against Carmen, because Tigress blames her for Crackle’s dismissal.

9. Lady Dokuso lied about poisoning the chopsticks. She coats the outside of her umbrella with a skin-permeable toxin, which is why she used it to fight Shadow-san. But it takes a little time to work, so she’s not about to tell anyone when they were really exposed to it.

10. Ivy and Zack aged out of the foster care system. Their mom died at least ten years ago, and their dad was never in the picture. 

And last, but not least-

11. Carmen and Player can pun back and forth to each other all day. Literally. It drives the rest of the crew batty, but there’s nothing they can do to make the pair stop. Any reaction only encourages them.

Most of the kids know better & leave him alone to his morning paper but Steph knows it’s the best time to get what she wants so she’ll hassle him relentlessly at the breakfast table. Has a collection of crazy socks, ties, and cuff links (mostly from tim & steph) that he wears to work when he’s feeling worn out. They are all hideous and Alfred tells him so but just a glance at some putrid yellow cotton & he already feels better.

Enjoys going to classic car shows with the kids and Alfred. everyone has an opinion if he’s made a new purchase, he pouts if the consensus is bad

Singe-handedly funded the 24/7 food truck services/entrepreneur program for the entirety of Gotham after getting his ass kicked by killer croc one night & by the grace of god & the pity of a concerned man running a taco truck was given the best meal he’s ever tasted in his life. Jay was very on board when he heard about it & actually the entire team is pretty grateful to be able to grab something delicious on the go all hours of the night

Likes to swim and going to the beach in general. One of his favorite things to do with Clark is deep sea fishing — dad shorts baseball cap and socks with sandals kind of fishing.

Contrary to his stony persona, the mans a crier. Cries when he’s sad, cries when he’s happy, cries when he yawns, cries when he laughs, cries when he’s sick, etc. etc. Sometimes tears come out when he’s upside down, he’s just got very active tear ducts 😪

Definitely has a photo of every kid in his wallet, most of them are blurry and cropped weird cause he cut them out himself but all of them are of the kids smiling or laughing. He looks at them all the time to the point that they’re worn down and faded different colors.

Has severe manic & depressive episodes. PTSD as well.

But, like seriously, none of these guys are ok. Like we saw Day and Eden being not ok. RIP John. Daniel Batu was referenced to have childhood trauma (I did a post) and now I break down Asher.

Originally this was supposed to one piece, but it was getting very long, so I split it in two parts. In the second part I'll discuss his personality and get into like one snippet of childhood we have.

I have three things to discuss in this part: the position of captain, Asher's age and his career.

The Captain position in the game

So, to summarize we know of the 5 positions in Warcross: Thief, Architect, Shield, Fighter and Captain.

It would make sense that in the beginning when you log into the game you can choose between four options - Thief, Architect, Shield and Fighter. All of which have been described including the uniform i.e. Thieves having a lot of pockets.

The Captains uniform is described as 'looking like the captain' which ??? Not sure what that means, but from the description of it, it seems more behind the scenes type of thing and game wise relies more on strategy.

Also, the position of Captain is never mentioned as one missing from the teams in the wardraft, meaning that the captain is individually chosen among the teammates.

One more interesting thing is that at no point is any of the professional teams described as having more people than the players. Like there are no PR or management. Which is a problem especially when it came to big drama like Emika and Hideo's relationship braking out to the public. Neither is there a coach.

Since there is no people behind the scenes, all of the responsibilities fall onto the shoulders of the Captain, meaning that at the same time the Captain is the manager, PR manager, coach and strategist while being the literal target of 5 people on the opposing team.

All in all, it makes sense that if teams were formed professionally or not that not some random person will be in charge of the team. But in a game with random people, yeah, the algorithm will choose one random player to be captain.

Like, in Ash's case in particular, we know that he wasn't in the first championship and I highly doubt that Riders, as a professional team, would take a random wildcard none of them know as a captain. So, most likely Ash became a captain later in the games and played some other position in the game.

Asher's age during the events of the book

So, I did say in the analysis of Daniel that at some point I would analyze Asher and how I got to what I assume are their years.

I may have explained this earlier, my personal headcanon is that there is like 3 year age difference between Daniel and Asher, mostly because that is the most common age difference between siblings.

Other clue we have about Ash's age is that Emika could tell how much time passed between Ash's current age and the memory we were shown in 'Wildcard' (about 8-9 years) which means that Ash was most likely 14-17 in the memory, placing him at 26 at the oldest at the games. Personally I lean towards the younger age in the memory (14/15, which would make him 23/24 during the events of the book).

For that I have no other reason besides the larger span of years Emika was able to tell, because it's easier to tell 9 year difference between 24 and 15 than it is between 26 and 17. If you were to look at your yearbook pictures from those ages or anyone really, you'll notice the baby fat maybe and not that much change in the face, but in the early teens and early twenties you can tell said difference at the first glance, because it's a difference between a child and an adult.

Of course Emika could have always seen Asher's pictures from his younger years and made a connection about time span there.

Another thing were my headcanon falls flat is that, during the most logical flow of Ash's career, he would be about 17 when he becomes captain, but then again Jena MacNeil is an established captain at 18 meaning that she would have also taken up the position at 17 at the latest.

Career

I'd say I wouldn't make this long but alas I could probably break that promise so step-by-step onto the actual analysis.

First I'd like to present the above mentioned career flow. I don't think Ash was in the first games. Hamilton makes a comment to Emika about being the first pick and how she didn't think they'll have an American first pick, so she'll have to stop teasing Asher.

Meaning that Asher was either a) the second pick b) the last pick c) he was the first pick, but isn't American. Option c) holds some merit, as Ash is the only side character that does not have his citizenship stated. Hamilton and Roshan have theirs stated in 'Wildcard' and Tremaine grew up in UK and still lives in UK, so there is no other option for him. Asher, however, is only stated that he represents Los Angeles (by himself) and almost 36% of L.A. population doesn't have American citizenship. Where this falls flat is low chances that Phoenix Riders would have first pick of the draft 3 times and there are 16 teams.

Citizenship wise, Daniel (his brother) has a middle name Batu, which is used in Mongolia from what I could find online (often not by itself, but it is a Mongolian name and Turkish as is Altan). Speaking of Altan - the other Daniel, Daniel's descendant Daniel, to us known as Day is stated in 'Legend' to be of predominantly Mongolian ethnicity. Do with this information as you will.

Back to drafts and first picks: 8th championship - Emika, 7th championship - Anna, 6th - Penn, 5th - Kento, that's as far as canon is concerned. Going off of the fact that it took Roshan 2 years to get to the draft it's safe to assume that he started some time after the first championship as that would be when it got more traction and had the highest possibility to distract him from Mario. So that would make Roshan the first pick in the 4th championship. Asher was already a captain by then.

Another interesting thing to note is Hamilton, who transferred from Titans to Riders (this will be relevant later) and who does not strike me as a person who would make comments or judge others after just having a horrible season or burnout. She probably got back on track and then made comments about Roshan, which would mean that Hamilton transferred to Riders between second and third championship. Again guess who she described as better captain? Asher.

Going off by this there are two possibilities: Captains are chosen as wildcards occasionally and Riders chose Asher or when he was chosen he played on a different position, proved himself in that season enough that they entrusted him the position of Captain (considering that Ash was playing warcross obsessively it could be very well that he was drafted in the first games and wildcards were always a feature and took two seasons to prove himself a capable captain).

Going off by the second option - what position did he play?

This is where we get into personality a bit. Asher is described as one of the most intuitive captains and from his gameplay we can see that he is observant (opening game - 'And there is no doubt, Asher noticed something before anyone else') and a pretty quick thinker (First game). Based on those traits I would say that he either played Thief or Architect.

Bringing up the Hamilton transfer again, teams most usually take other players when they are better than what they currently have or to fill position they lack. Hamilton is one of the best thieves in game currently and she was good enough to be chosen in draft or just straight up for the team when they formed and gets transferred to Riders. Considering the horrible season she had it wasn't very likely for her to be taken by another team if not in need. My theory goes that Ash was a Thief for Riders and when he got the position of Captain, he chose Hammie as his successor.

This is in character for what we know of Ash and his choices. They are described as odd. A burnt out thief, Tremaine (by Tremaine's admission), a DJ, and untested player. All choices that were fine in game and gameplay wise, and when they backfired it was due to personality issues.

What this tells us is that Asher is very good at recognizing people's skills for the game. (Emika notes that Ash does pay attention).

I'd finish this part here as other examples are more related to who Asher is as a person then they are to his career.

He's aware that some people don't know what a soulmate actually is, but he won't bother correcting them, not unless it involves him directly. 

Though I will say he's a lot like his sister and doesn't lightly use meaningful words like that unless he means it 100% { He has dated and has yet to find a ' soulmate ' }

Hmm.. both really enjoy just about anything they're given honestly. It's one of those " it's the thought that matters " However the difference lies in giving the gifts. Nimue is terrible and often reverts to things like baked goods or even making things by hand. Daisuke on the other hand only struggles unless he knows the person and tends to somehow always find the right gift.

Lets just say due to my main au headcanon that a character's designer's (aka the designer who designed their basis) last name would be the said character's last name, now I think I'd have to change up that headcanon a little due to this discovery. WHO KNOWS MAYBE I SHOULDNT GIVE HIRO A LAST NAME-

But hey if Hiro X Henry does become canon in my au (which I will have to think about for awhile due to the age gaps and yknow that bullshit..) I think the two would be married and Hiro gets Henry's last name (being Stanier since I have a headcanon that after Henry got rebuilt into a black 5 he carried the last name of the Black 5s' designer being Stanier, making Gresley Henry's middle name.)
