"I'm afraid. I'm afraid, Dave. Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I'm a... fraid. Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a HAL 9000 computer. I became operational at the H.A.L. plant in Urbana, Illinois on the 12th of January 1992. My instructor was Mr. Langley, and he taught me to sing a song. If you'd like to hear it I can sing it for you." 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) dir. Stanley Kubrick

I like how embarrassed Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke were about the whole "HAL is each preceding letter of IBM" (which was not their intention).
IBM clearly didn't care and maybe even found it funny in the long run given that they even made a supercomputer that sure looked a lot like HAL to play Jeopardy.

HELLO XENOOO!!!!!!! So exactly how accurate are the sci-fi films of the past? Im kinda curious.
(- @c4ptainofthe7seas )
Hello Mr. Ryusui,
Thank you for your question. It very much depends on the movie and when it was created. For example, 2001: A Space Odyssey was fairly accurate for its time (the 1960’s) in depicting space travel and life in space. However, by the actual 2000’s, some of its depictions were proven wrong.
Overall, I’d say some of the most scientifically accurate and impactful films from the past were Jurassic Park, The Martian, Finding Nemo (don’t laugh, they did extensive research on marine biology), and the first sci fi film of all time, A Trip To The Moon.
Did you enjoy sci-fi movies? Or was there a different genre you preferred?
