Mid-ish June Update Blog!

Hello fellow writeblr peeps!

There have been a lot of moves for my novel and me the last several weeks.  It’s been hectic as we were preparing for Geekcraft Expo, so actual work on the novel had to be backburnered a bit - but I’m back in the saddle!

I’m on chapter 11 of the third draft.  I’m slowly making my way through, and I have a couple people looking at it and reading it to give me feedback.  Of course, I’m still looking for a few more beta readers - so if you’re interested in BL novels, hit me up for some early access to this one!

The expo went....well, not well from a financial standpoint, but I think it went ok as far as starting to get my feet wet talking to people at conventions.  A few people showed interest in Hidden Report, including one willing to beta read it, so yay!  I would say that made the weekend a success regardless.

Another major update is the COVER!  I have secured an artist, a very dear friend that has stepped up to take on the impossible task of working with me to design not only Ash and Faysal’s looks but to design the overall cover of the book!  We have confirmed Ash’s and are in the process of trying to get Faysal’s down, but both are looking fantastic so far!   I’m hoping it’ll be at a point soon where I could maybe do a cover reveal, or at least a character reveal - but we’ll see!

^This matches how I’ve looked seeing the work that my artist has been putting in and seeing them come to life!  I hope you all enjoy seeing them as much as I have!

That is -mainly- it for now.  Hopefully as we get into the second half of the year here there will be more and more, and we’ll be moving toward publication!

HE WOULD!!!!! also it would be VERY funny if the anti-witch-seduction (AWS) training had the exact same vibes as those free speech training things they make you do in university where you watch a bunch of bad acting videos and answer very easy questions that have very obvious correct answers if youre not a monster

"Mancini, an Italian visitor to England, was concerned for (Edward V and Richard of Shrewsbury's) fate as early as mid July. Well before he left England in that month, the princes, he later wrote, 'were withdrawn into the inner apartments of the Tower and were seen more and more rarely behind the bars and windows, till at length they ceased to appear at all'. Rumours of the princes' deaths were already circulating by the year's end. George Cely reported that he had heard that Edward V might be dead not long after 13 June, and certainly before his uncle claimed the throne. The Crowland chronicler, writing in about 1486, recalled how the rumour arose in September 1483 that 'the princes, by some unknown manner of destruction, had met their fate'. Some early reports went further, stating quite categorically that the princes were no longer alive. Robert Ricart, recorder of Bristol, entered in his Kalendar under the year ending 15 September 1483 that 'in this year the two sons of King Edward were put to silence in the Tower of London'. Shortly after 1485 the anonymous compiler of a genealogy of English kings concluded his work by accusing Richard, with his accomplice Buckingham, of murdering the princes. A London citizen, in some historical notes written before the end of 1488, noted that 'they were put to death in the Tower of London' in the mayoral year ending November 1483. John Rous, writing in 1489, reported that Richard killed the princes within three months of welcoming Edward V at Stony Stratford on 30 April; Richard, he wrote, 'received his lord king Edward V blandly with embraces and kisses, and within three months or a little more he killed him with his brother'. Rumours to similar effect reached France. In a speech to the estates general in 1484 the chancellor of France, Guillaume de Rochefort, reminded his audience how Edward IV s sons had been murdered and the crown seized by the murderer."

*Just to add, Casper Weinrich of Danzig's chronicle at the end of 1483 also states that, "Richard, the King's brother, has put himself in power and crowned in England and he had his brother's children killed" and then in 1485 "King Richard of England, who had had his brother Edward’s children killed, was killed about St. Lawrence Day"

Yu Dong ( Hidden Blade producer ) on how the character Secretary Ye was developed :

In the beginning, Wang Yibo’s identity as Secretary Ye actually changed a lot from the first draft of the script to the final film (scenes). In the beginning, Secretary Ye didn’t have so many scenes, but because of filming, the director has more. Idea Wang Yibo gave the director more expressive ability. So you will see Wang Yibo in this performance under the lens of director Cheng Er.

Cheng-er’s words on Yibo :

I think he (Wang Yibo) will change but it's subtle and I'm having a hard time sorting this out. Is it because of the filming of "Hidden Blade" that changed him, or because of his own growth? In terms of what comes out naturally, in fact, the first time I met Yibo, I thought he was quite a calm person, he was very shy, he was very steady, very polite, and very humble. As far as his current environment is concerned, I think he is quite calm. It's some rare quality so I'm really comfortable. We will also have some contacts in life. We'll eat, we'll have a relationship like this. I feel very comfortable. Wang Yibo is a very comfortable person. He has not had some bad influence on him because of his special circumstances. He has always maintained his simple side. This is really very rare.For me, including for the movie "Hidden Blade", I think this is quite a surprise.

I have a profound weakness for competent side charecters who deeply belive that they are actually the main character and consider the hero of the story to be an annoying side charecters who is getting in thier way.

Especially intrepid reporter charecters.....please never write an intrepid reporter who thinks they are a side charecters.

WIP Update and Cringefest

And by cringefest, I mean I was cringing earlier this week.

Anyone that was watching my stream this afternoon knows that I have gone back to the drawing board for the beginning of Hidden Report.  I received some pretty serious feedback from a potental beta reader that the beginning needs work, and a lot of  it.  Which...I knew on some level, and the new feedback matched previous feedback I’d received.  

But something about hearing it said a bit more bluntly then previously really put it into perspective.  It definately threw me for a loop and hurt my heart a bit.  I honestly had a moment where I seriously wondered if I can actually get it up to snuff or if I’m just a shit writer.

The reality is no, I’m not.  I’m a writer that hasn’t picked up a pen in probably 10 years and took on an ambitious project of taking a book I wrote at around 15 years old and making it into a polished gem of a novel.

I’m ok now.  I’ve created a new prologue for Hidden Report that I hope will help with some of the issues the beginning has, and it has inspired me to go through the novel and incorporate some more details in places it may have otherwise been missing - places where Ash’s voice was drowned out by other details and we can’t truly get a sense of him.

Wish me luck.  I thought I was halfway through my third draft, but I’ve gone back to the very first chapter and am starting again.  Woo boy.

He didn’t really have the heart to comment about it, but he did have the urge to down the rest of his thermos. “Well... if it helps, y’ may have just made bread we could turn into a weapon.” At least Soap’s trying to make it sound like a harmless little joke—minus the salt infused pantry disc he just tried to eat.
