I’m so sorry it took me forever to write this! I’m a dummy who’s bad at time management. It wasn’t specified if this was a oneshot or headcanons, so I just wrote a oneshot, but I liked how this turned out so I might come back and write another part for this. I don’t remember if the Calypsos had access to the ECHOnet as kids since it’s been a minute since I’ve played through Borderlands 3, but we’re just going to assume they did lol

You spent an amount of your time online, talking to them about everything there was to talk about, and they kept in touch with you often, creating a group chat between the three of you to talk in.

This was a very common occurrence, you can’t even begin to count the number of times you’ve been dragged into their weird arguments with absolutely zero context, but it was always fun to watch how passionate they were about these weird disagreements. The chat continued to be flooded with messages of Tyreen accusing Troy of liking pineapple on pizza, while Troy tried his best to explain himself, though you weren’t really sure if he was desperate to make Tyreen believe him, or if he was actually hiding the possibility of him liking pineapple on pizza. The world may never know.

Tyreen typed back excitedly, loving the suggestion, much to Troy’s chagrin you assumed.

Oh. That’s right. You’d nearly forgotten. They’d mentioned before that their dad refused to let them go out. Something about him being super protective of them. Well, even if it wasn’t possible, it was a fun idea to imagine, spending actual, in-person, time with the twins. You would be able to see them face-to-face and fulfill all the other weird plans that stemmed from the strange but fun conversations you had with the twins. They’d told you that it was unrealistic to ever actually see each other, but you still held on to that slight hope that maybe one day you’d be able to finally meet them.

Tyreen texted back.

Goonya Monster Oneshot: Aquarium Hangout Day

AN: I was inspired to write this after the many aquarium trips I've been to, aquarium trips being another big inspiration for my AU besides sea monsters and traditional mercreatures. Here's a oneshot about the topic that I thought about one day.

His train of thought broke after when his uber asked him to drop him off at a location Octo only gave the directions to. "Oh uh, yeah. This looks like it." He had no clue what he was being roped up into, only for Octo just to say that it was a surprise and that it would be something that he'd like. Getting out of the uber, he looked around in hopes of finding anyone he knew. He was a tad nervous, especially with being around a huge crowd of people. He's rather be near the people he worked with or his friends for comfort.

"Hey! HEYYYYYYYYY!!" Toad heard Octo's voice, soon seeing the ten year old waving one hand up in the air. Sure enough, Snail and Pirarucu were there too along with Clione, since she insisted him to come with so he didn't get lost. "I told you he'd make it!" Snail piped up, making Pirarucu roll her eyes. "Yeah yeah sure. I knew that from the start," she then said. He was completely surprised to see everyone here, but being with them made him feel comfortable in a way. "I guess...thanks for having me?" he asked nervously, still sweating over the sight of all the people.

Pirarucu only crossed her arms at seeing the mercreature's expressions. He's nervous about being exposed in front of a huge group of people. If I was someone like him, I'd be the same way, she thought. "Where exactly-" Toad cut himself off as soon as he saw where they were, eyes becoming shocked over what he was seeing. "Surprise!" Octo exclaimed with a smile on his face. "I figured you'd like it."��

He was lost for words. It was an aquarium of all places. It had been awhile since he last came, last time being when he was a kid around Octo and Snail's age. It was true that his parents still might of taken him and his siblings there even after that day in his life, but seeing it again almost gave him a hint of nostalgia. He couldn't stay too shocked and surprised over where this trip was planned. "You planned this?" he then asked Octo. "Wouldn't shut up about it all day," Pirarucu then said. "Me and Clione have been here before, but it's been awhile. When Octo mentioned it, I felt like it wouldn't hurt to come back." Snail was just excited, since it was her first time here.

"Is it just us?" he finally asked, soon jinxing it when he heard some familiar voices. "I swear that birdbrain better behave you know!" the familiar voice of Anemone said as it got closer. "They said they were going to behave! You think they would just pop out at the most random times?" Moray's voice followed suit, a bit of panic on their face. It was really Petrel's idea to join the four, dragging Anemone along with them. Moray didn't mind, and Anemone finally gave in after some puppy dog eyes and a happy bird noise from the Nega-Birdman after when they popped out just before they left base.

Even Goonyan came with too, covering their ears from the loudness of the two of them complaining. Are you kidding me?! Toad's brain screamed upon seeing the half Monster feline. They then waved to him as soon as they saw his face. "Hi Toad!" they exclaimed, nyamoing happily. He only waved in response as the others came. "This must be the place. It's quite shocking I never took Snail here." Slug's voice was first, and he was seen with Orca and Manta. "You've been here before?" Orca's voice said to Manta who responded, "Yeah. Made me think of you, too. The sea is also apart of nature, and I think you'd like it."

Everyone gathered together, surprising the heck out of him. "E-Everyone-!" he exclaimed at first, almost wanting to leave. He did have nothing to worry about since the whole group knew who he was despite still trying to process over Anemone also being a sea creature. After all, both him and her didn't know that she secretly had a hidden tail(Moray still was trying to get used over both of their bosses being sea creatures). "Octo didn't invite us. Well, he did ask me and Orca to come with. The others came on their own," Manta then reassured him.

It made him sigh in relief. "Look. I just wanted all of us to have fun. Are you alright with that?" When he heard Octo's voice, Toad could tell that this was the case. "I understand, and I appreciate it." He then smiled. "Cheers." He then turned to look at Moray, who flinched a bit. "Uh you do realize that it was Petrel's idea for me to come right? I mean, I did want to but they just pestered it further," they explained, Anemone grumbling to herself about getting dragged along. He and Moray went to a quick private spot, hoping to get less suspicion from anyone. 

"Listen. I know they love the water and everything but they better not poof out one time during this trip. I don't want to drive any unwanted attention if they saw a Negative walking with a group of people like us," he then said, Moray then saying about how they said they were going to behave. Petrel was known for being like that sometimes, popping out at the most unexpected times. Moray had been able to restrain them from coming out when they wanted to, but if pressured too much, Petrel would pop out into a half baked version of themselves with Moray's personality kicking in every so often.

After the talk, the two rejoined the others. "Took you long enough," Anemone sighed. "You had the talk didn't you?" They both nodded, yet Moray could still hear Petrel's excited chirping from their mind about the trip. They did say they were going to behave, but at the same time, both him and her had their suspicions. "Let's just get this show on the road," Pirarucu then said, not wanting to wait any longer. Of course Snail rushed in to bear hug Slug, a smile forming on his face as they both followed suit. "Well? Shall we go?" Manta asked Orca. "Absolutely," she replied with a smile. The final four then followed after.

Everyone chose to be in their own personal group and enjoy the time at their own pace, Octo choosing to hang with Toad and the others after when Manta had asked him if he wanted to cruise around with her and Orca. "You sure you wanna let him tag with us?" is what Moray had asked Toad with a bit of a concerned look on their face while Anemone wasn't paying attention and was trying to restrain Goonyan to prevent them from wandering off. "It's going to be fine. Don't worry about it. Let's have fun, alright?" he responded. "I-If you say so..."

The four did end up having fun without any casualties happening whatsoever, despite Petrel getting excited about seeing all the colorful fish as they walked towards them and almost poofed out if it wasn't for Moray scolding them. The group did run into the others as they walked, each pair already having their best time to themselves. Octo did enjoy hearing what Toad had to say about a lot of the marine life they encountered, him talking about his own personal experience with those that he had seen like eels.

Seeing all of this still gave him chills down his spine knowing about how Monsters originated from the depths of the sea. Seeing how each different one took on an appearance similar to some of these marine life almost made him want to step back from the exhibit after remembering the many Monster encounters he'd been through since the Minotaur's attack. He had Octo and Moray to reassure him he was going to be alright, Anemone eventually rolling her eyes and also giving him with a small grumble since she now was apart of everything with the cost of finding out she had a tail.

There was one time where he took off ahead of the others, Goonyan being the one to point it out. "Hey. Where's he going, nyamo?" is what they asked as they watched him leave and head to another part of the building. The other three hesitated before seeing him head off on his own. "Oh yeah. He is heading somewhere. Wonder what that one is..." Moray trailed at the end, not knowing how to finish their sentence whatsoever. Well, let's follow him! is what Petrel chimed in just before they could finish their sentence.

Octo was already heading that direction, Anemone tapping their arm to get their attention. "The kid just left us," she said, pointing to the now wandering off Octo. He looked back at them, saying that he was going to be fine as he entered the exhibit. "Toad! Where'd you go?" he slightly shouted, hoping to find his friend. Looking around, he seemed to notice that it was themed around coral reefs and topic environments. It was true that they had a bit of a reef in the sea near them, but this hit different in a way.

"Toad where are you-" he was cut off upon seeing him standing in front of an exhibit that happened to be one of the more larger ones in the whole building. "I figured you'd be here," he said with a smile. There were tiger sharks. Actual ones. "I can understand why you came here. You're one of them. Are you like...related to the actual shark or something?" Toad's head shot at Octo just as he said that. "What made you think that?!" he shouted, a tad embarrassed. "I dunno...it just came to me. Maybe it's the tail." He shrugged at the end, making Toad facepalm.

Of course, the ten year old apologized quickly to lessen things. "It's fine. Normally that would be the first thing you'd think about." He turned back to face the sharks. "If I'm being honest, Anemone doing those studies made me realize things I didn't even know about myself even though yeah, I still did hate it with every inch of my being." Anemone still did studies on him despite knowing the truth about herself, and it still made him shudder thinking about it.

He then walked up to the glass, soon touching it with one hand. Some of the sharks happened to stop and stare at him, as if they could sense his presence near them. "If I'm being honest, I didn't even know that I had shark DNA in me after that one test Anemone did. I guess the theme does run in the family, but we're all not the same kind if you get what I mean." As Toad sighed at the end, Octo watched from the sidelines, wanting to walk up to him but not interrupting the moment. "Well yeah, I do understand that. Not every being of the water would be the same species," he then said, remembering one of his books back at home.

To his shock, Toad actually laughed a bit. "Even if you became a Monster through the potion, I'm still happy you understand." Octo finally walked up next to him, watching one of the sharks come to their eye level. It did have a striking similarity to Toad's underwater form, especially with the tiger like markings the shark had on its body. "How are you doing that?" he asked finally, curious as to what was happening. It hit him: "Can you talk with marine life?" Toad chuckled a bit, but then nodded. "I'm kind of good at it as well as sensing the thoughts of different things. Of course there's the chance of encountering rogue sharks since not all of them are nice. Heck, there was one time I had to attack some that wouldn't stop pestering me."

Octo laughed a bit at that story. "Well it's the truth!" he exclaimed, making Octo nod in response. "Alright alright I get it," he then said. He too reached out to touch the glass, the shark's focus turning to him. It sensed that he was a friend to the mercreature beside him, making him smile and look at a smiling Toad. Their time together with the tiger sharks went on for a few more moments before Anemone and Moray rushed in, Goonyan catching up from behind. "There you are my dear Toad!" she exclaimed, the two taking their hands off of the glass and the sharks returning to normal. "Don't take off like that! You scared me!"

"Sorry for making you all worry. Just wanted to be alone for a bit," he said. "I had a little bit of fun too." He wrapped his arm around Octo's back, making him smile. "Everyone is ready to go if you are," Moray then said, seeing that everyone else had joined them. He nodded, saying that he had his fun and was ready to head out. "This was a good idea. I appreciate you planning this," he then said to Octo as they walked out of the room. As they talked, the others talked too about the experience they had today. When Pirarucu had asked Slug if he and Snail had fun, she was glad to get a happy response from the two siblings. Today really was a great experience, and everyone, including the very sea creature within their group, admitted it.

Ash sat at his desk outside of Adrian's office. After finishing up some work, he decided to take a break to play on his phone while Adrian had his meeting. He had been feeling a little nervous that morning, as his and Adrian's relationship had progressed faster than he was expecting. They've gotten a little close since starting the job, and he was worried that Adrian wouldn't except him when it's time to come out.

A notification broke Ash's train of thought. A text from Lily. He smiled a bit as he tapped the notification.

Lily: Heyyyyyyyyy doing some business stuff?

Ash: Not at the moment. Thought I'd take a break. What are you up to?

Lily: nothing much, really.

Ash: really? No zombie game?

Lily: nope. Feeling a little burnt out. Have you talked to Adrian yet?

Ash: uhhh

Lily: Ash. Come on, dude. You said you would tell him today. He deserves to know, you two are getting closer.

Ash: I know, but I'm nervous. What if he doesn't accept me?

Lily: you're getting yourself all worked up, Ash. Doesn't he donate like millions every year to LGBTQ+ organizations?

Ash: yeah, but he could be doing that to get more love and public attention.

Lily: or he's fully supportive! Or maybe he's apart of the community like us. You'll never know unless you do it.

Ash: I'm just so scared he won't accept who I am.

Lily: trust me. He will. I believe in you.

Ash: and what if he doesn't?

Lily: I'll punch him in the throat. You know I won't let an asshole hurt my bestie!

Ash: haha. You're the best, Lily. I'll go tell him. Talk to you later.

Ash pocketed his phone and stood from his seat. His legs were a bit shakey, but he calmed his nerves as best he could and made his way over to Adrian's office. He knocked, the sound feeling louder than normal.

"Come in." That deep, smooth voice. Adrian. Ash took in a deep breath and walked in. Adrian looked up and smiled. "Hi. Do you need something?"

"Uh...I needed to talk to you about something." He closed the door behind him as he walked further into his office. He walked in front of Adrian's desk, fiddling with his hands. He looked around for a moment, collecting himself. "Adrian. I've been working here for 6 months so far, and we've gotten to know each other a bit more since my initial hiring. But...I haven't told you something really important." Adrian raised his eyebrow, nodding lightly. Ash watched him for a moment, before ripping off the bandage.

"I'm trans. My name is Ash. I am a man." Adrian stared at him for a moment. Ash's heart was beating slightly faster, trying to fight the nerves. Adrian nodded.

"So you'll be needing an update on your files? I can have that arranged. You'll receive a new nametag for your desk, your name and gender will be changed in our documents." He sat up, typing on his computer for a moment. Ash's eyes widened slightly, but he soon relaxed. It's safe. Adrian is safe. He is safe here.

"Yes. That would be great. I haven't changed my name too much. It's just Ash now. Lee is my middle name." Adrian smiled as he typed a little longer, before leaning back in his seat.

"Your documents are processing. Thank you for telling me, Ash. It means a lot."

So. Question. Im starting therapy this week. Or at least its an intake appointment. And I was wondering if you have any experience with any therapy stuff to kinda. Maybe give me an idea of what I should expect?

Like, I know my plp works in the field and stuff and she does therapy too but for completely different reasons than Im gonna try going for. And I was hoping I could get another person’s perspective.

Not gonna lie, I’ve had some not so great experiences with therapy/counseling before, so Im hoping this time goes better. But yeah

I mean if you’ve already had therapy you know the basics. First appointment is meeting and saying what brought you to therapy. Next appointment is continuing to establish. I would argue even by the third appointment you’re still getting used to your therapist and establishing a relationship with them. I think every relationship you have with a therapist is different. I felt like my last therapist was good at guiding me to talk about things I needed to talk about. My therapist now I honestly just sit in silence until he asks me something. It’s really awkward. My last appointment I tried to bring up the stuff I had written down to talk about and he kind of side-stepped the stuff I really wanted to talk about to ask why I self-diagnose with BPD and how it can be trendy to self-diagnose and how “The DSM-5 isn’t the Bible” but also “kids will read the DSM-5 and say it sounds like them and then say they have a disorder” and blah blah blah. He knows I’m a psych student and therefore sometimes it feels like I can level with him and have conversations about the field of psychology and then sometimes it feels like “well as a professional in the field I have to recommend against self-diagnosis” or something and I’m like I’m here to talk about all the red flags that the girl I’m lusting after just dropped on me not whether or not I have blue brain worms or brain worms that just look blue under the sunlight but are actually brown like bluejay feathers like. Fr. Uh. I mean you were *there* with me when I said I don’t particularly like my therapist but I’ve been having a hard time finding a new one. I, personally, prefer therapy where I can work on something since my last therapist unlocked the realization that I talk much more openly when I am busying myself with something which is why I think art therapy would be helpful for me. I purposefully planned the last serious conversation I had to have while I was working on things with my hands. Some therapists are really chatty and talk about themselves a lot and compare their experiences in life or with other clients to yours. Some therapists only want to focus on you and what you feel. Some want to give you advice, some want to give you techniques. But your level of openness and comfort is going to dictate how much and what you get out of it. If I was more comfortable with my therapist I might have been able to put my foot down and say “this isn’t what I want to talk about in my session today, perhaps we can revisit this another time”, but I just don’t have that level of comfort with my therapist because I don’t like him that much. He’s a great guy! He’s just not the right style of therapist for me. It’s really great to have an openly queer therapist but I need someone more rigid who can get me to open up better and doesn’t monologue at me. That’s just something I’ve learned. You’ll learn what works from when it’s worked in the past and you’ll learn what you need when you don’t get it. That’s just how it is. I’m hoping I can revisit the stuff I actually wanted to talk about in my next session instead of having the focus be put on why I need to ID with BPD and not “so I have someone that said some things to me that’s making me concerned about the direction our potential relationship is taking but I don’t really know how to interoperate it, what are your thoughts as someone who hears these therapy buzzwords a lot?”
