Hug Your Hag Apron available for sale!

Since the very first Love and Hex comic, people have asked where they can buy a "Hug Your Hag" apron.

*sigh* Harriet is a…complicated…person for me. There’s so much more to her than her appearance. She’s a Haunt, a dead mortal soul that can’t enter either afterlife for whatever reason. Her reason is because her soul was shattered on her death, caused by a botched killing curse. Until the missing pieces of her soul gather back to the core, she’s stuck like this.

As for her history, she was a mortal human. I know little about how she was before her transformation, but the fact that she attempted to employ a killing curse against someone who rejected her confession of love kind of paints a less than wholesome picture. But because she did something wrong, the curse chained what was left of her soul to it. The curse apparently just killed the target, but now Harriet is forced to carry out the crime.

The worst part is that apparently this curse exists on a number of worlds, so Harriet can be summoned to any of them to take out a target. Needless to say, she has a great deal of blood on her hands. Doesn’t help that she gains a number of perks when she’s summoned; in her Huntress form, she becomes much stronger, she can teleport to wherever her target is, and she always has a weapon.

She deeply regrets her actions and is always devastated when she carries out a job. She loses all autonomy when she’s summoned, but she’s fully aware of everything. She is desperately looking for a way to break away from this curse, and with the help of her current boyfriend, Vex, she’s making slow headway.

I used to hate her. A mortal who willingly wanted to take someone else’s life simply because they didn’t love them is incredibly petty. But after hearing what Vex and Macabre thought on the matter, I realized we had one thing in common; my Beast form was also uncontrollable for a time, so I know what it felt like to lose yourself. And I shouldn’t have disregarded the remorse she felt when she’s successfully summoned. I don’t think Heaven will hold most of her kills against her, but the first one was a conscious action she needs to answer for. I just hope we can get her to realize that grace and forgiveness are there for those who ask of it, and are easier to obtain that many mortals believe.

In the meantime, Nikolai, Macabre, Vex, and I are on alert for when she’s summoned. If we can keep her held for long enough, the summon will wear off. We’re sadly not always successful. I have personally told Harriet that I will do everything in my power to stop her, and I do have ways of “containing” another. She’s holding me to this promise.

I feel like the weird magic has all gone missing from tumblr and if anywhere is the place for weird magic, it's... well. Tumblr.

So I'm sharing my weird magic thing and I hope others will do the same, on this post or on their own.

I almost exclusively do "negative" magic. I undo, I reverse, I banish, I drive away, and yes, I jinx and hex and will almost certainly one day perform at least one curse.

All my life, since before magic and before I knew how any of this worked properly (I had some ideas, but how and when I got them is a story for another time), I have had the worst luck. If it rained, it didn't just pour, it flooded with impunity and massive destructive force. Anything I wanted, I didn't get. Anything I asked for, I didn't receive. Anything I loved? Ripped from me, sooner or later. There is no exception to this. I was like a karmic sinkhole where everyone else's bad shit went to spare them from their consequences. When I tried witchcraft, I found it frustrating. My spells always failed. My Intuition was good, but I often second guessed it and was wrong— but if I trusted it, I was also wrong. I couldn't win.

Then I did a banishing.

This.... is also a story for another time. But I will say that unlike every other spell I tried, it worked. It worked phenomenally. For me, it was an unprecedented result. And then I started doing more. I banished my negative thoughts instead of drawing in good ones, and it worked. I stirred my tea counterclockwise, the traditional "undoing" direction and also my natural stirring tendency, and thought of my tiredness and grumpiness and pain; my days got better. Anything I have done with a pushing, shoving, breaking off intent in mind has worked wonders. Putting up walls and other protections was and is also something I'm good at, but not nearly as much as the driving away of things. And you know what? My drawing spells started to get better. They aren't good still, they're almost comically bad, like a comic-relief witch in a webcomic bad. They're not very effective. But they aren't actively drawing in the opposite if what I want them to. I'm not actively losing money to disaster every time I do a money spell or pulling in negative entities when I want to communicate with helpful spirits. My Intuition is much better now, and my discernment with knowing my own Intuition is also much better.

Have you read Erfworld? It has a fully grognard protagonist who is summoned into the game world specifically for his hex-based stategy skills - but the game characters are able to adapt, learn and use most of the same strategies, and also develop and use their own exploits.

Conflicts between the lives/inner worlds of the game characters vs. the protagonist's stategies are also a major theme and large sections of it just aren't really about him. It's a very strange webcomic but may be one of the major western contributions to isekai-type works

that said i kinda fell off erfworld at the point it moved offsite so I don't really know where they took it post cerberus syndrome. i heard that it all ended due to some really messy life stuff for the author, so I didn't feel like getting into it. though, funnily enough, this is the second time I heard about erfworld this week, the previous time being a blog that reviews webnovels (that being @recordcrash, who reviewed it here). i can only conclude erfworld was secretly written by the baader meinhof gang--

Dear Mr. Bogathan Leech, I am a huge fan of Awful Hospital and just your site as a whole, and I have a single, burning question for you lodged in my brain-

For the love of all things multi-legged and chitinous, what the F&4% is the "official" hex code of the shade of green you use for computers in Awful Hospital? I've put a couple different pictures of, for example, Crash, into eyedropper programs, and a couple times I get hex codes that don't match up with the colors on the other images. I don't know if I'm just doing something wrong or if you've tweaked the color you used, so I would be so incredibly grateful if you'd let me know what the deal is with it.

Some webcomic people will die inside to hear this but I don't have a set palette I open up for anything anymore; for some characters I open the most recent art of them and use the eyedropper but for a lot of art I just wing it and pick a close looking color because I figure people won't really mind This is also because every extra step of something no matter how small (like just opening that recent art for reference) can suddenly become a mental obstacle, like every action I have to take is another moment where I might forget what I'm actually doing! It seems to be the main way my ADHD manifests

Space Dread anon here. Sorry, forgot about that rule when sending that last ask. Anyway, this may be stuff I already said in the submission but here we go. Space Dread is a character from the webcomic Val and Isaac and is an assassin/mercenary for hire who likes video games and juggling. No one knows her true name except her moms and her codename everyone knows her by was an old MMO name she used. A warlock once tried to use her deadname to hex her, but since it's no longer a name she sees as hers, it did nothing. The comic this happens in has been the picture example for the TV Trope page for "Supernaturally Validated Trans Person" and it's very fitting. From what I can recall, she's also wlw, as she's only ever dated several of the other female characters such as Val, Garla, and I think Dex? She's a huge nerd and her current outfit she wears for assassinating was a cosplay she wore after rushing to job from a convention and it just kind of stuck. Her method of transitioning is a little fairy called the Gender Wizard that basically acts as magic HRT. I remember one of the more recent comics that focused on her showed that, through shapeshifting powers, she used to make her bust bigger herself until Gender Wizard was able to help.
