I love that Pseudo-Dionysius was almost definitely a fake personage to smuggle platonist theology into early christianity, and part of how he did that was composing some of his work as a (definitely fake) correspondence with john of Patmos.
Like go ahead. Call him a heretic. If you're right, good job. But if you're wrong, you just called John of Patmos's pen-pal a heretic. You wanna roll those dice?

In Orkney we have a cyrptid that's just an infinitely more fucked up centaur. Skinless horse with a man's top half on it. Sea mother keeps them imprisoned for summer.
Yeah yeah I know about the Nuckalevee

Listen I hate call-out posts as much as the next, but we DO need to be aware of other people in our communities - especially with large followings. Tbh I’ve never followed Biddy Tarot closely, but it surely is one of the biggest Tarot platforms out there. And so far, she is allowing pro-Trump commenters on this post as well.

During the translation of the Emerald Tablet in 15th century Florence, a peculiar passage was discovered suggesting that Hermes Trismegistus kept a sacred herd of "Mercury-touched swine" whose snouts would allegedly transform any soil they rooted through into philosophical mercury. These "Hermetic Hogs" were said to be born with crystalline tusks that refracted sunlight into seven previously unknown colors, each corresponding to a different aspect of alchemical wisdom. The most controversial claim in the passage stated that feeding these pigs a diet of powdered moonstone would cause them to snore in perfect Pythagorean intervals, creating what was described as "the oinking music of the spheres." Several prominent Medicis nearly bankrupted themselves importing exotic pigs in failed attempts to recreate these effects, leading to a brief period where crystalline pig tusks were more valuable than gold in certain Italian intellectual circles.

What was Swedenborg’s whole deal, anyway? My impression is that the denomination he created is pretty unremarkable, if non-Trinitarian. But he nevertheless seems to have been a big deal, at least in some quarters.
Swedenborg's version of mystical Christianity is interesting because the granular bits are extremely specific and complex, but the broad strokes are the type of thing the average mom can participate in.
Like, his version of the universe is made of what are called "Vortical atoms" a Descartes atomic theory that conceptualizes empty space as a series of tiny vortexes that are symbiotically approaching masslessness and sizelessness, but never reach it. Thats kinda how Swedenborg conceptualzies god. God is a sort of infinite fabric woven throughout the universe that is asymtotically approaching perfect and redeemed state, and the process by which god approaches perfection is the good works of humanity.
Good works that boil down to "being nice to people" and "planting many trees."
He was highly influential on a specific type of person, and a large part of the New Age was people rediscovering his interesting takes on Christianity.

“Jung confuses instinct and habit. According to him, the collective unconscious is part of the psyche; the myths and archetypes are permanent engrams of the species. We hope we have shown that this collective unconscious is nothing of the sort and that, in fact, it is cultural, i.e., it is acquired.”

wait so is there a difference between a psychic and a prophet or are we just full on not giving a shit
Psychics generally claim to have some inate spiritual ability that they were born with, or a talent that was honed over time. A prophet is chosen by God, and their abilities stem from god.
Although, at least during the spiritualist movement there was some intentionally vague overlap between the two. Spiritualism sold itself as the scientific study of phenomena like people who claimed to speak to angels and ghosts, and supposed prophets were a part of that umbrella.

Its very interesting to me how people come into your asks thinking they can gain knowledge/instructions for "Actual Magic" as if you believe in the same Magic that they do despite a lot of times saying that you dont.
Do you think its a healthy way to study occultism/live in general?
I regularly get messages from people saying they developed an appreciation for history and the genealogy of ideas because of my posting. That's really all I want. I want people to develop a rigorous love for the world around them. I want to give people the tools they need to approach the sources.

I know Angels are considered extensions of God but I've never understood exactly how autonomous they're supposed to be. Doctrinally, what exactly is the nature of their intelligence? Can they make decisions?
Like obviously, Satan chose to rebel, but at the cost of their angel-ness in some way. But where's the line?
I remember a bit from the hekhalot literature, where some rabbi invokes the right secret phrases, so that an angel has to teach him the Torah instantly, much to the angel's protest. What are the implications of an angel being upset with this? In a metaphysical sense, what does it mean for an angel to want?

honestly yeah, fiber arts is magic. you cast spell of warm gloves, spell of nice hat, spell of stuffed animal.
material component: yarn
wand: single hooked wand or double pointed wands, depending on caster's preference
mechanical component: specific motions repeated in a particular pattern
time component: a while
look seriously the first step in a knitting recipe is "cast on", and then it's a bunch of letters and numbers incomprehensible to anyone not versed in the arcane art. that's a spellbook. yes it's a book of knitting patterns but also. it's a spell book.
