Day 8 of the tristamp analysis marathon and jesus christ i am!!! really excited to do these now because people have been adding onto/being nice abt my stuff and that's super cool. Thank you again to @tristampparty for running this! I didn't manage to join in on the book club last year so it's nice to have a fun little event all the same
[But as for next book club,,,, well. I'm extremely transgender about trimax and would love to join in]
As always, spoilers for trigun stampede and trigun maximum! Also some CWs for Vash-typical passive suicidal tendencies and discussion of his psyche
So! Episode 8! I have.... mixed feelings, on how Tristamp portrays Knives. On one hand, I definitely think that we're being lead to believe that Vash has always been a peace-loving kid and that Knives has always had those tendencies, which would set up for season 2 to break that down. I hope.
The one thing I couldn't figure out, ofc, is the Knives not needing to eat thing - My friend millions-dykes theorized a black hole/white star dynamic a little while ago [as seen in the screenshot. I'm Organ, they are Nagito Malmonella]
aaaaaaaaanyway, we still get these little instances of knives just being a kid, and it's the funniest thing in the world to me. Vash is also apparently in tune with him enough to pick up on that and it's such twin behaviour.
There's also just a lot of cases of Knives smiling or being giggly around Rem, which,,,, he's such a mama's boy like we know this but it's so nice to have it reinforced. This theory of Knives having always been cold/standoffish just doesn't track - the only time he usually seems uncomfortable is when Rem touches him or when he talks about Plant stuff - particularly when he's talking about being different to Vash. Knives, to me at least, is a tad autism-coded :]
OKAY TO THE SCENE[TM]
So obviously this has changed from when we first saw Vash tell the story. Vash's sequence of events runs as follows:
Vash walks up to the little hill that Knives is laughing maniacally on top of -> Knives says "I finally did it! It worked! -> Vash confronts him with "How could you do that?" -> Knives reassures him with "Don't worry, I left the Plant ship" -> Knives says "I even got Rem killed!" -> Knives points out that Vash is his accomplice, but does not elaborate why. "Don't get mad. You're already my accomplice, isn't that right Vash?"
Now the sequence of events in this version is provably more accurate (the same audio is used in the black box recording discovered later), and goes as follows:
Vash wakes up from the escape pod and goes "Nai, where are you?" -> He spends some time following Knives' footsteps where he sees the crashed pods and fire and Knives laughing on the hill -> Knives says "I finally did it! It worked!" -> Vash says "I can't believe you killed Rem!" -> Knives says "Don't get mad. You're already my accomplice, it was you who told me the passcode - Am I right, Vash?"
So there are several inconsistencies in these two versions of events, most notably for me is that Vash is the one to bring up Rem. If the 1st telling was correct, it would imply that Knives wanted to kill Rem, but that part is conspicuously absent, because Vash is the one that brings her up.
Vash's retelling also omits the fact that he was the one to give Knives the passcode, shifting more blame onto Knives. It's very very interesting to me. Finally, Knives mostly has his back to Vash when he dissolves into laughter again. Which is a technique often used to hide if you've been crying or are having a hard time keeping some emotional responses down.
And I'm not even done with this flashback! The scene where Vash just lies down and wants to give up is,,, Well, in Trimax, ever since Tesla, Vash has struggled with suicidal ideation - he's the one that asks for Rem to just kill him, and that's heartbreaking, but we also see a bit of that leaking through here again, where he just wants to lie down and give up. It also gives me hope we're gonna see that Tesla aftermath scene in the next season, because that'll be breaking Vash down into his more complicated, messy parts.
Okay so I do think that the subtitles Aniwave uses are... a little bit Wack, I'm pretty sure that they're unofficial and probably a bit wonky, and I'm only slightly conversational in Japanese so I have 0 idea about this, but hey I think someone should inform Wolfwood, for no particular reas- [I am dragged away by security]
[I did check the dub, which referred to Plants giving birth which I think is much more likely to be accurate. But it'd still be funny for Wolfwood to have to sit through Plant sex ed so neither of them get pregnant]
Rem really was very, very young,,,,,
There are four photos here, but only one is given to Vash. I wonder why,,,, Possibly to gauge his recognition of Knives being in the photo, or keeping the other three to learn what they can about Knives.
The night/day progression cycle here doesn't really match up with Vash's little tally, so I don't think it's counting days. Given that he apparently went to say hello to everyone in cold sleep while on the ship, I think it's a little more likely that the tally marks are for them....
Do we ever actually get to hear Rem say the blank ticket thing in a flashback? I don't recall it, but it is said to Vash after the whole Stabbing Incident in Trimax, so that's possibly why they've kept it from us.
Theeee markings under this Plant's eyes match Elendira's, which. Obviously Elendira in tristamp is part plant there's just so many little details that lend themselves to it,,,
The HAIR COLOUR CHANGE AAAA
I like the little wall of Vash baby pics in the background here, but he still didn't get any of his 3 other ship pics back :(
Finally, Vash's line of "an Independent will make up for what an Independent has done" is interesting because his guilt complex really does spiral, huh. The reason Knives telling him "Oh, you just feel guilty for the Big Fall, huh?" in a later ep fucks him up so much is because like. That is kinda true to an extent. Vash is his own kind of self-deluding, but that only really starts spiraling at about this point in time.
Alright, setting up for a Day of analysis tomorrow, because I have many thoughts and feelings surrounding Knives (I love him very dearly and I hate him a lot (affectionate)) and we Will spend some time talking about Trimax Flavour Knives because my understanding of him is fundamental to my understanding of Tristamp Flavour Knives.
Thank y'all for the fun comments and theory addons!!! I'm having a lot of fun and we're really getting into how [normal] I am about Trigun!

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Avery Grambs has a plan for a better future: survive high school, win a scholarship, and get out. But her fortunes change in an instant when billionaire Tobias Hawthorne dies and leaves Avery virtually his entire fortune. The catch? Aver has no idea why – or even who Tobias Hawthorne even is.
To receive her inheritance, Avery must move into sprawling, secret passage-filled Hawthorne House, where every room bears the old man’s touch – and his love of puzzles, riddles, and codes. Unfortunately for Avery, Hawthorne House is also occupied by the family that Tobias Hawthorne just dispossessed. This includes the four Hawthorne grandsons: dangerous, magnetic, brilliant boys who grew up with every expectation that one day, they would inherit billions. Heir apparent Grayson Hawthorne is convinced that Avery must be a conwoman, and he’s determined to take her down. His brother, Jameson, views her as their grandfather’s last hurrah: a twisted riddle, a puzzle to be solved. Caught in a world of wealth and privilege, with danger around every turn, Avery will have to play the game herself just to survive.
Suitors and Sabotage by Cindy Anstey
Two young people must hide their true feelings for each other while figuring out who means them harm in this cheeky Regency romance from the author of Love, Lies, and Spies and Duels & Deception.
Shy aspiring artist Imogene Chively has just had a successful Season in London, complete with a suitor of her father’s approval. Imogene is ambivalent about the young gentleman until he comes to visit her at the Chively estate with his younger brother in tow. When her interest is piqued, however, it is for the wrong brother.
Charming Ben Steeple has a secret: despite being an architectural apprentice, he has no drawing aptitude. When Imogene offers to teach him, Ben is soon smitten by the young lady he considers his brother’s intended.
But hiding their true feelings becomes the least of their problems when, after a series of “accidents,” it becomes apparent that someone means Ben harm. And as their affection for each other grows—despite their efforts to remain just friends—so does the danger… The Spirit Bares Its Teeth by Andrew Joseph White
Mors vincit omnia. Death conquers all.
London, 1883. The Veil between the living and dead has thinned. Violet-eyed mediums commune with spirits under the watchful eye of the Royal Speaker Society, and sixteen-year-old Silas Bell would rather hip out his violet eyes than become an obedient Speaker wife. According to Mother, he’ll be married by the end of the year. It doesn’t matter that he’s needed a decade of tutors to hide his autism; that he practices surgery on slaughtered pigs; that he is a boy, not the girl the world insists on seeing.
After a failed attempt to escape an arranged marriage, Silas is diagnosed with Veil sickness—a mysterious disease sending violet-eyed women into madness—and shipped away to Braxton’s Sanitorium and Finishing School. The facility is cold, the instructors merciless, and the students either bloom into eligible wives or disappear. So when the ghosts of missing students start begging Silas for help, he decides to reach into Braxton’s innards and expose its rotten guts to the world—as long as the school doesn’t break him first.
Etiquette & Espionage by Gail Carriger
It’s one thing to learn to curtsy properly. It’s quite another to learn to curtsy and throw a knife at the same time. Welcome to Finishing School.
Fourteen-year-old Sophronia is a great trial to her poor mother. Sophronia is more interested in dismantling clocks and climbing trees than proper manners—and the family can only hope that company never sees her atrocious curtsy. Mrs. Temminnick is desperate for her daughter to become a proper lady. So she enrolls Sophronia in Mademoiselle Geraldine’s Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality.
But Sophronia soon realizes the school is not quite what her mother might have hoped. At Mademoiselle Geraldine’s, young ladies learn to finish…everything. Certainly, they learn the fine arts of dance, dress, and etiquette, but they also learn to deal out death, diversion, and espionage—in the politest possible ways, of course. Sophronia and her friends are in for a rousing first year’s education.
Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire
October “Toby” Daye, a changeling who is half human and half fae, has been an outsider from birth. After getting burned by both sides of her heritage, Toby has denied the Faerie world, retreating to a “normal” life. Unfortunately for her, the Faerie world has other ideas…
The murder of Countess Evening Winterrose pulls Toby back into the fae world. Unable to resist Evening’s dying curse, which binds her to investigate, Toby must resume her former position as knight errand and renew old alliances. As she steps back into fae society, dealing with a cast of characters not entirely good or evil, she realizes that more than her own life will be forfeited if she cannot find Evening’s killer.
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin
On a bitter-cold day, in the December of his junior year at Harvard, Sam Masur exits a subway car and sees, amid the hordes of people waiting on the platform, Sadie Green. He calls her name. For a moment, she pretends she hasn’t heard him, but then, she turns, and a game begins; a legendary collaboration that will launch them to stardom. These friends, intimates since childhood, borrow money, beg favors, and, before even graduating college, they have created their first blockbuster, Ichigo. Overnight, they world is theirs. Not even twenty-five years old, Sam and Sadie are brilliant, successful, and rich, but these qualities won’t protect them from their own creative ambitions of the betrayals of their hearts.
Spanning thirty years, from Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Venice Beach, California, and lands in between and far beyond, Gabrielle Zeven’s Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow is a dazzling and intricately imagined novel that examines the multifarious nature of identity, disability, failure, the redemptive possibilities in play, and above all, our need to connect: to be loved and to love. Yes, it is a love story, but it is not one you have read before.
Gwen & Art Are Not in Love by Lex Croucher
It’s been hundreds of years since King Arthur’s reign. His descendant, Arthur, a future Lord and general gadabout, has been betrothed to Gwendoline, the quick-witted, short-tempered princess of England, since birth. The only thing they can agree on is that they despise each other.
They’re forced to spend the summer together at Camelot in the run-up to their nuptials, and within 24 hours, Gwen has discovered Arthur kissing a boy, and Arthur has gone digging for Gwen’s childhood diary and found confessions about her crush on the kingdom’s only lady knight, Bridget Leclair.
Realizing they might make better allies than enemies, Gwen and Art make a reluctant pact to cover for each other, and as things heat up at the annual royal tournament, Gwen is swept off her feet by her knight, and Arthur takes an interest in Gwen’s royal brother. Lex Croucher’s Gwen & Art Are Not in Love is chock full of sword-fighting, found family, and romantic shenanigans destined to make readers fall in love.

So i uh- rewatched the Trollhunters TV show and I... may or may not have created a new oc.
I might make an official bio post on her later when I have more. But for now:
Her name is Astrea (the name is important, it will come in later)
she's Merlin's 1st/oldest apprentice, and is about to have a burntout gifted kid/golden child burnout arc
she has a bit of a rivalry with Douxie (cuz she's pressured to be perfect and he feels like he's always in her shadow and is just the backup or second pick). they do have an arc about it and learn and grow to appreciate and love each other (platonically of course)
she specializes in magic with light (sunlight, starlight, led light, etc)
her wizard staff turns into a pen to make it easy to hide in the modern world
she also uses a lot of rune magic
she has a very bubbly personality
also very smart and an alchemy/magic science nerd, her magical bag is full of spellbooks
she also takes notes in her spellbooks with glitter pens
she has frizzy red hair
I realized she's also pretty heavily adhd/autistic coded (i'm not mad, i have adhd and autism myself)
She's also Aspec (on the aro and ace spectrums)
probably will have a familiar like Douxie i just... haven't figured out that part yet
she first appears in Season 3 when they're trying to rescue Jim from the darklands and Kanjikar tells them in order to succeed they will need the assistance of "Merlin's firey haired apprentice" and they find her hiding out in a small Arcadia bookshop and ask her for help < being the sweet, helpful, and bubbly person Astrea is, she happily agrees to help them, and joins the gang on their adventures since
Also Merlin hasn't told her yet, but he's been lying about her origins and where she came from (i won't go into details yet, but long story short- he actually created her with magic from the help of dragons, and he specifically created and designed her to be a weapon that could defeat Morgana).
^When she finds out the truth, she's pretty pissed with Merlin and very hurt and has complicated feelings about the person who raised her and praised her but also put so much pressure on her and lied to her for thousands of years
She also becomes pretty fast friends with Jim, Claire, and Toby, they're all great friends to her
She is sweet and bubbly but if you hurt her friends ITS ON SIGHT (Gunmar and his goons learned that lesson the hard way when Merlin wasn't present to reign her in)
Protection charms and potions are also a specialty of hers
might have a book variant? idk yet i've only read the first book and have yet to read the rest
Also have a moodboard I made while we're at it:
Will there ever be a fic? I don't know, maybe eventually, for now it's just vibes

Heyyyy anyone planning on listening to the magnus archives spoilerless and is following me SCROLL PAST NOW!!!!!!
Ok so where to START on Jon omfg. Ok so this man gets buried alive, yeah I know insane. But that isn’t even the start. Ok let’s start from the beginning:
Jon sees his childhood bully get taken into a house (and is presumably also eaten) by a creepy ass spider book. It was called mr spider if you wanna look on the wiki probably to read it.
He is autism coded imo and though that isn’t specifically a poor little meow meow trait it makes him more relatable which is a poor little meow meow trait
His entire arc in the series is he gets fucked up by all these FOURTEEN (debatably 15 if you count Peter Lucas’ fake one) different otherworldly entities and throughout the way becomes severely traumatised and has all his friends/assistants at the start taken away from him.
He’s the unwilling avatar (someone who basically becomes apart of the entities) of the DUMBEST one of those entities, the eye, and is actively manipulated throughout the entire series by 1. His boss, 2. This insanely (and goddamn so very pretty) cool and calculated spider woman, 3. An embodiment of literally going insane 4. At times his future boyfriend (but not in a bad way it’s just so everyone thinks he’s like just a silly little guy) 5. His bosses’ probably sometimes ex husband (thrice divorced) because his entity is so dumb. (It’s because his entity is the most curious one so just blindly takes him into the worst situations possible for the sake of knowing)
He gets his hand almost burnt off
The 1st assistant he loses is because she got killed by this monster that replaces all your memories of the person it’s impersonating with the monster’s (seemingly normal) image.
The 2nd assistant he loses is because he (the assistant) blows up this fucked up skin-circus to stop this asshole entity (the same one that took the previous assistant and the 2’s brother) and gets caught in the wreckage. Jon survives the wreckage so yayyyy survivor’s guilt!
The 3rd assistant (the one that later he gets with and the same one who kills him because Jon’s too powerful, his name is Martin and he’s the bitch ever) gets manipulated by the entity called the lonely and it basically makes him distance himself from everyone and it makes Jon so so sad like my fucking god.
He has to die for the sake of the world
There is a furry feline friend that accompanies him in a lot of one season
He stays at his ex’s house for a whole season because he’s in hiding from the police
He gets a load of worms in him at one point and has to get it out with a corkscrew of all things. Makes me itch just thinking about it
Has been kidnapped multiple times
Has to have a guy pull one of his ribs out
He starts out a skeptic because he’s scared and a little derealisation never hurt anyone, right? Oh nvm it did because the old badass lady before you did all that she did to stop the apocalypse oh whoops look at you you brought about the apocalypse oh whoops!!
That’s all I can think of, I know there’s more, Charlie (my friend who lives for the magnus archives @transs3xualmagg0t ) if you wanna add anything to this be my guest (that’s if you see this that is)!!!
Also he’s terrified the entire time lmao
Rat.
you want me to chose a mystery man from something Ive barely heard of OVER CATRA!!!!
sorry but no
catra wins ove r mosr
-petty person (zhep)
[who cant fricking spell]
also is it a book? if so I shall read
maybe...
if you want to try and convince me against catra I shall wait like 2 hour cuz I is nice
Jon is so much more a poor little meow meow than Catra thoughhhh
Also it’s a podcast called The Magnus Archives, permission to spoil it for you to prove that Jon is the most pathetic little wet cat lookin ass man of ever?
#rat asks#Mein gott maggie in my archives??#Magnus archives spoilers#the magnus archives#oh also for meta reasons Jon has the exact same name as Magnus’ creator#that’s not for poor meow meow points I just think that’s funny

My opinions and raking for season 2 episodes (That no one asked for)
1- The Sacred Non-repeating Number:
I really liked this episode! I thought it was a good season opener. It was fun meeting other Shlorps and having a class system introduced. I do feel Korvo just flat out excepting the class thing and going a long with it feels off, I wish we got more internal conflict from it, but maybe will get that later. I rank this ep 5th out of 8th but only because there’s eps I like more
2- The Earth Eraser
Here we are, the gay episode. Now this was a great ep mostly because it had Korvo acting like a petty little bitch and I LOVE to see it. I’m not really into violence and gore humor which this episode had a LOT of but it did have really really great character moments, I really liked seeing Korvo hang out with Yumyulack and the Pupa and Jesse scenes where top teir 👌. I do have a complaint where I feel the speech Korvo gives at the end feels very rushed and not earned, like if Korvo was doing all this just to get Terry’s attention then I wish we got more scenes where that was the case? Like maybe something in the dinner party scene at the beginning, and let me just say the autism coding in that scene GEEZ (but that deserves it’s own post). But Korvo and Terry DO kiss in this ep (Nice) so I guess I can’t complain too much (just kidding I’m going to complain a lot). This episode ranks 3rd out of 8 for me.
3- The Lake House Device
Aaaaaand this is the ep I liked the least which somehow, by a miracle, beat out the Wall episode. Not to say it’s a BAD episode I just felt like it missed a lot of character moments. It did have a few really funny moments, the cheeseburger slippers and platypuses come to mind but it lacked too much for me. Korvo being to into “perfect” Terry just felt off to me, I think it would’ve been better if he began to notice that Terry’s new behaviors take away from what Korvo actually likes about him, but he continues to change him because Korvo’s stupid. The comic Spinetrick did covers this really well (you know the one). Other then that I just felt like a lot of the jokes didn’t hit it for me. The big dick energy thing just wasn’t that funny, like it was better then I thought it was going to be but it just had me groaning at the end. As for manic Terry, while it was funny at first I think it was a joke that went on too far. Ranked 8th out of 8th sorry guys :/
4- The Emergency Urbanizer
NOW HERE’S A GREAT EPISODE. This one almost tied for first but just didn’t have enough Korvo content for me, but other then that I absolutely loved this episode. Everything from the beginning (Korvo’s dumb pink robe) to them just leaving their kids in the woods to the design and look of the forest city to Korvo getting constantly attacked by wolves the absolute inconceivableness of this episode I fucking LOVE it!!! Everyone is their best here and I love to watch Korvo get mulled over and over. Also the designs of the city and treeple including my wife Birchette, all so good!!!! Ranking this one 2nd out of 8th.
5- The Rad Awesome Terrific Ray
OK IN ALL SERIOUSNESS THOUGH.... this is my fav ep of the season...
I KNOW I KNOW a lot of people hate it (for good reason) but it’s the ep that had me laughing the hardest (to the point of tears) and I feel like that is all I can ask from the dumb dumb gaylien show. The scene of Korvo and Terry just fucking berating Jen for being basic had me howling not to mention all the scenes with Terry and the rats where fucking historical. There are so many fucking quotes in this ep. I even loved the side story with Jesse and Yumyulack which I usually don’t care for, but here it had me laughing just as hard at the main story line, and had me actually liking the Principle character who I’ve hated up to this point. ...and to acknowledge the elephant in the room the sex scene? Didn’t bother me too much, I thought it was pretty funny. Now do I get really embarrassed watching it? Yes, yes I do. I totally understand people issues with this ep and I respect them but I really like this dumbass episode for all it’s dumbassry. Ranked 1st out of 8, please send anon hate over this I deserve it.
6- The Apple Pencil Pro
Honestly an ep I forgot about until second watch, which isn’t fair because it’s a really good ep. I really feel this episode in particular solidifies that this is a dumb dumb show that does NOT take itself serious in the least and I kinda love it. I love how nonsensical, it just makes the show more fun for me. I really love the character Peter and how much the family agrees that their horrible monsters for hurting him, and the over top con at the end of the ep. I also love how even their worst enemies agree that Jesse is a good egg who wouldn’t hurt anyone intentional. I know people are going to cry about continuity but I honestly feel this isn’t the kind of show where continuity matters. There’s not much I can say about this episode other then it’s STUPID and I love how STUPID it is. Ranked 3rd of out 8.
7- The Unlikely Demise of Terry’s Favorite shot Glass
Now it’s no secret... I do not care for the wall plot. I find it honestly boring and none of the characters do anything for me, I feel it takes time away from the gayliens you know the REAL reason I’m watching this show. But I will say... the wall plat in season was much interesting then season 1. I feel season 1′s wall arch was much too much of a survival story we’ve seen a million times before. It was trite and full of cliches I’ve seen soo many times. It was also annoying so see sooo many people write big think pieces and reddit post about how the wall story was so much better then the aliens, like fuck off. But I will say this ep... was honestly very good. I think a wall episode that takes place outside the wall did it a lot of justice, and focusing on Cherie was nice because I actually like Cherie even if she’s a wall person. This ep even made me like the Duke, our ace kind...rip. Over all the fact that this ep made me even care gives it a leg up on the Lake House. 7th out of 8.
8- The Solar Opposites Almost Get An Xbox
Now this one is kinda hard for me to talk about. I’m pretty mixed on it. I feel it did somethings REALLY well and fun, and others moments dropped the ball. I know I’m a dumb tervo and I have no rights but I would’ve been nice to have gotten even a small scene of Korvo and Terry reflecting on their relationship with each other now that they’re dying. Like some kinda of moment of them almost confessing or something idk, it would’ve been nice. I did really like them running around trying to find fulfillment only to realize they need fulfillment with each other. The scene between Korvo and Jesse was really nice and I really liked it BUT it felt like it came too late and was shoehorned in there. It was weird for them to get so serious at the very end of the episode at the very end of the season. As much as I enjoyed it I feel it kinda brings the show down, like it’s trying to be something it’s not rather then playing to strengths. I think this show CAN have big emotional scenes but they have to be EARNED not just thrown in at the very end, it just weaks. Other then that....every scene with Aisha was amazing, I love her and I love Tiffany Haddish please keep putting her in this show. Overall decent ep but didn’t hit me like some of the others did 6th out of 8.
I liked this season a lot, and I look forward to season 3 and the holiday special. I know both season 1 and 2 where written before season 1′s release so I think it will be interesting to see how the writers take these characters now that they have fans perspective on them. No matter what happens I still like this show and I plan to keep drawing over the top mushy tervo and family fanart.
Thanks for reading my overly written rant!
