Herve VS Jeremie in The Robots
I don't see anybody pointing out the parallels between Herve and Jeremie in "The Robots". Which is interesting, because a few clear contrasts are drawn between the two, and a couple of them are actually a bit sad.
We start the episode in Mrs. Hertz's class, where her lecture about titanium leads to her reminding everyone about the robot competition after school. When Ulrich and Odd ask Jeremie if he's finished his model, they get a smile and a thumbs up in return. When Sissi asks Herve the same question, he confirms and invites her to see his "masterpiece" once classes are finished. He sounds supremely confident. Jeremie seems to treat this as a fun hobby (since we know he's already got his hands full with XANA), while Herve (as we know) has built his model specifically to make Jeremie's lose.
Now for the unveilings, both of which take place in the geniuses' dorm rooms: -When Herve introduces Iron Sissi to human Sissi and Nicolas, we don't really get to see Nicolas's reaction, but Sissi immediately takes a hatred to it, demanding to know why Herve modeled "that horror" after her. Kinda sad, actually, knowing that the person you modeled your robot after despises it. When attempting to control Iron Sissi, Herve seems to have trouble, as he struggles to get a good handle on the controls and accidentally makes it take a swipe at Sissi. Once he gets it under control, Herve tries to reassure them (and himself) that everything will be fine, prompting Sissi to remind him that Jeremie always wins. She then threatens to kick Herve and Nicolas out of her gang if Herve doesn't win the contest, before leaving, slamming the door on her way out. (Now, that's not fair on Nicolas. What did he do?) -In contrast, when Jeremie unveils Kiwi 2, we get a much calmer scene. Again, the one the robot is modeled after (Kiwi) doesn't really take kindly to it, though it can be attributed to the dog being freaked out at the other him (which is true to real life). But the others love it, and Aelita finds it cute. When controlling Kiwi 2, Jeremie isn't struggling at all. He seems to be a master at this. He even executes a joke on Odd that also playfully pokes fun at Kiwi, something a friend would do. Unlike Herve, Jeremie doesn't try to reassure anyone that everything will be fine; his attitude does that for him, as we (the audience) come to realize that Jeremie probably always wins because he's just better at all this than Herve is. And unlike Sissi's ultimatum, Aelita just hopes XANA gives Jeremie enough time to win the contest, and Yumi softly closes the door behind her.
At the competition (the grand finale), Jim announces the two contestants, Iron Sissi and Kiwi 2. When the two have to shake hands, Jeremie's smile indicates that if he loses, he won't hold it against Herve at all. Again, it's clear he only does this because it's his hobby (either that, or he's oblivious). On the other hand, Herve is very reluctant. It's clear he's jealous of Jeremie for always winning. But the two do shake hands.
During the game, the two robots are actually equally competent. However, when Jim announces half-time, Herve walks off the stage by himself, while Jeremie is joined by Ulrich and Odd, who congratulate him on a job well done so far.
When it comes to the game ball, it seems Jeremie is going to win again, as Kiwi 2 snatches the ball first, but then we see Herve pressing a button on his control panel as he gives an evil-ish laugh, which makes Kiwi 2 explode. Jeremie is in shock, and Sissi cheers, as Herve steals the final point, not at all caring about the fact that what he just did is considered cheating.
However, his victory feels very hollow, and not in a "cheaters never prosper" philosophical kind of way. No one really cheers for Herve when he wins. Throughout the entire match, the audience only ever cheers for Jeremie and Kiwi 2, and Jim never officially announces Herve as the winner. Jim only announces the contest as over, before reminding some of his students that their gym class starts in five minutes.
Going further, Herve only ever cared about winning, no matter what it took, because if he won, he'd stay close to Sissi. But afterwards, Jeremie admits that he only cares about understanding why his robot suddenly blew up the way it did. He seems sad, yes, but mainly confused. He only confronts Herve when Milly and Tamiya reveal that Herve cheated.
A side note: Herve has to be blackmailed into helping Ulrich and Yumi dismantle XANA's robot, and the scene shows that Herve does care about the fact that he cheated, because he doesn't want Sissi to know that he didn't win legitimately.
One XANA attack and a RTTP later, we're back at the competition's game ball. Just like before, Herve presses his cheating button, but this time, knowing the projectile's path, Jeremie has Kiwi 2 dodge it, and thus giving Jeremie the win once again. Unlike Herve's victory, Jeremie's feels a lot more deserved, as the crowd goes wild, and Jim proudly announces Jeremie as the winner. This handshake, however, Herve refuses to participate in, acting like a "sore loser" (whether you forgive him or not, Yumi, Odd's right), storming off the stage like a petulant five-year-old. But you could say that this time, it was Herve's turn to be confused, not understanding how Jeremie seemed to read his mind and dodge his projectile, not knowing where his plan to cheat went awry.
Another side note: When Jeremie loses, he's comforted by his friends, who reassure him that winning isn't everything. When Herve loses, he's chewed out by Sissi, who calls him a "loser" and his robot ugly.
A very common contrast here is the fact that Jeremie has friends to support him, while Herve doesn't. Another contrast is character: Herve's main motive during this competition was to stay in Sissi's gang, and to do that, he needed to beat Jeremie, while Jeremie seemed to just want to have some fun during the midst of fighting XANA and working to free Aelita.
Make of all of this what you will. I just wanted to point it out. If you have any thoughts, please let me know.

Gods Complication, Log 3
Chronos walked past the lines of the universe portal one more time. This time, something caught his attention.
The new universe he saw has split into 2, and one of these splits is shattering.
What happened here?
Quickly, Chronos rushes over and peeks into the universe.
Herve Pichon and Taelia Stones have managed to found the super computer, have Aelita arrested and have the super computer shut down.
The smug green creep has the audacity to ask Aelita for a date in exchange for her life and freedom.
So THAT’S how it is. Chronos has always hated Herve, but now he hates him even more. Before destroying this split piece, Chronos decided to have a little fun.
Herve’s smugness ticked Chronos off, he dared to have this sweet girl arrested and have her friends trapped.
“Not so fast!” Chronos warned.
Herve turned around, his smug quickly went away at what he saw.
“What… what are you?”
Chronos didn’t respond, he simply raised his hand and snapped his fingers. Instantly, the officers arresting Aelita vanished into thin air.
Aelita let out a sigh of relief, but she was unable to stand up.
“H-how?!” Herve screeched.
“Simple, you have broken the fundamental rule of the universe, to stay out of Aelita’s way, you disgusting pervert.”
“Fine!” Herve spat. “I can simply call the officers again!”
“Can you?” Chronos taunted
As Herve was about to walk away, he realized he couldn't move. He started to panic, Chronos smirked as he walked over to Herve.
“Back off!!” Herve screamed.
But Chronos wouldn’t budge and kept walking.
“Back off, or I will-” Herve screamed again.
“What will you do, hmm?” Chronos taunted again.
Chronos grabbed Herve’s neck.
“Any last words?” Chronos asked.
“What?” Herve screeched.
Chronos didn’t respond, he simply snapped Herve’s neck with no effort. Herve went limp and crumbled on the floor. Taelia froze in place as Chronos turned around to face her.
Taelia dropped to the floor, breathing heavily just as Chronos walked over to her.
“Wait, no stop!” Aelita pleads
Chronos stopped, he turned around to face her.
“Why?” Chronos asked. “She is the one who did this to you.”
“She’s… She-” Aelita stammered.
“I get it, she is still your cousin, but she did it without a care for your well-being.”
I thought it was okay. Taelia thinks. Everything sounds cool from her diary…
Chronos snapped his head back to face Taelia, scaring the red-haired girl to no end.
“What do you mean it was okay, huh?” Chronos asked. “What makes you THINK reading her diary was okay.”
Chronos leaned down to face Taelia directly in her eyes.
“I can hear your thoughts, you know.” He added.
Taelia gulped.
“Tch, whatever, you are staying alive.” Chronos spat. “It’s not like your existence is any useful for me.”
Chronos turned around, walking towards the supercomputer screen. He raised his hands, launching a delayed Return to the Past program.
“So long, my useless subjects.”
Chronos leapt out of the universe portal, back to the array of multiverse portal.
He let out an evil smirk as the shattered universe began to fade.
