🎨 NEW OIL PAINTING FINISHED❣️“Adorable Mess” 12 x 9 inches, Oil on panel, an “ugly-cute” Northern Mockingbird fledgling from my series of Tennessee state symbols. 🔹 Tennessee designated the mockingbird (genus Mimus polyglottos) as the official state bird in 1933, selected through an election conducted by the Tennessee Ornithological Society. 🔹 Mockingbirds have extraordinary vocal abilities - they can sing up to 200 songs, including their own melodious songs, the songs of other birds, insect and amphibian sounds, even an occasional mechanical noise. We just brought home a selection Canvas prints beautifully crafted by @damico_gallery & crew, for the Parthenon gift shop, just in time for tomorrow's opening night. The colors are brilliant, I am very pleased!!! 🎨 Inside story: My trompe l'oeil paintings have tiny pinholes that I painted on the faux wood grain surface for a dimensional effect. The zebra swallowtail has black and white stripes running the length of its body with red and blue spots on the lower back. 🌸Tennessee Coneflower (Echinacea tennesseensis) is one of two Tennessee State wildflowers, designated an official state wildflower in 2012 and found only in the limestone and cedar glades of Middle Tennessee. Channel catfish are bottom feeders (sometimes called spotted cat or fiddler) and can be found in most Tennessee streams and lakes. 🔹 The most numerous catfish species in North America, with an average size between 2 and 4 pounds, the channel catfish can grow to 50 pounds or more (the world record was a channel catfish caught in South Carolina weighing 58 pounds). 🔹 Found in rivers, reservoirs, natural lakes, and ponds throughout the United States. Omnivores with a very keen sense of smell and taste, a channel catfish actually has taste buds distributed over the entire surface of its body, especially concentrated on the 4 pairs of barbels (whiskers) surrounding the mouth. The smallmouth bass, Micropterus dolomieu, often referred to as "bronzeback," will fight ounce for ounce harder than any other species of sport fish in Tennessee. The current state record, which is also the world record of 11 pounds, 15 ounces, was caught by D.L. Hayes at Dale Hollow Lake on July 9, 1955. Smallmouth bass may be found in most streams and lakes in the state with the exception of West Tennessee.🔹The smallmouth bass is generally brown, appearing sometimes as black or green with red eyes, and dark vertical bands. On the dorsal fin there is a small dip between fins. The upper jaw of smallmouth bass extends to the middle of the eye. The smallmouth's coloration and hue may vary according to environmental variables such as water clarity or diet. 🔹 Males are generally smaller than females. The males tend to range around 2 pounds, while females can range from 3 to 6 pounds. Ladybugs help gardeners and farmers by eating tiny insect pests that damage plants. A ladybug can consume up to 60 aphids per day, and will also eat a variety of other harmful insects and larvae (including scales, mealy bugs, leaf hoppers, mites, and other types of soft-bodied insects), as well as pollen and nectar. Ladybugs produce a chemical that smells and tastes terrible as protection from predators. Ohio, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Delaware also designate the ladybug as an official state symbol. 🔹According to John Losey, a Cornell University entomologist who leads the Lost Ladybug Project.
