FEATURE FRIDAY: Hero’s Quest Bath Kit The Hero’s Quest Bath Kit is one of the most versatile bath kits I created. This can be used for any sort of spell or ritual for strength, courage, and success. Got a new job interview coming up? A presentation? Need an extra boost for an upcoming competition? Hero’s Quest covers all of those and more. The scent is made up of rosemary, bay, cedar, clove, cinnamon, and carnation to create this bold fragrance. To use: add one bag of bath salts to a tub filled water and get in. After you’re done, anoint your chakras with the oil. The salts are made from coarse grained salt, Epsom salt, and baking soda with a little olive oil, almond oil, and coconut oil. The oil is made from almond oil, olive oil, and coconut oil. Step 2: The Call to Adventure!/Step 3: The Refusal

I put these two steps in the same post is because they happen so fast. The protagonist gets the call to adventure and pretty much denies it within a couple of “real time” seconds/minutes.

The second step of the Monomyth is The Call to Adventure! This is a sign given most of the time by another character or it can be an event that challenges the protagonist into exploring this challenge.

A memorable one that I remember VIVIDLY is Luke Skywalker’s call in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Luke was getting attacked by a group of Tuskan Raider’s and was on the risk of getting killed until Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi saves him. Ben tells Luke his background, what the force is, and eventually gives him the call to adventure. R2-D2 projects the message of Princess Leia requesting Obi-Wan’s help. Obi-Wan tells Luke that he must come with him on his journey to help and join the force

Another protagonist that gets a memorable call to adventure is Harry Potter. I talked about his rough life, but it seems to get better as he receives a letter in the mail from Hogwarts, an elite witchcraft and wizardry school. 

The call to adventure between the two both have similarities and differences. Luke and Harry both get this call to adventure that was part of their destiny. Luke was destined to join The Force and Harry was destined to become a wizard. It was inherent. The difference between the two is the context of when they received the call. Harry was in an obviously miserable situation with his awful aunt and uncle. Luke was kind of just chilling when he got his call.

The third step, refusal, happens relatively fast after the protagonist gets offered the call to adventure. This refusal usually comes out of fear for the worse, they do not believe they have what it takes, or they are simply not interested enough. In the case for Luke, he is reluctant because he’s "got work to” and he does not believe he has what it takes to beat The Empire.

Harry simply does not believe he is a wizard. He thinks that this a joke. At first it is just a denial with self, then over some time he accepts this fact. The refusal can happen in the ways that I just mentioned: Denial to the provider of the call or denial to self.

The refusal, obviously, never lasts forever.
