WIP ask game
Thank you to @sea-dwelling-wizard for the tag!
Tagging @jackdawandicarus and @lordcatwich (no pressure ofc!)
rules: answer as many (or as few) of the questions about your WIP as you can.
For this, I'll be using my Victorian dragon thing :)
1. What was the first part of your WIP that you created?
An initial version of the first chapter! It was initially going to be a really long poem (non-rhyming; I'm not that skilled). It focused on Heron (Hanne at the time) walking through sort-of-London (no, he does not wander through each chartered street where the chartered Thames does flow and mark in every face he meets marks of weakness marks of woe /ref) and entering a house. It was slightly more interesting than it sounds.
2. If your story was a TV show, what would the intro song be?
I'm honestly… not that sure. That's are a few songs that I link with it but that's spoilers so uh. Yeah.
3. Who are your favourite character(s) and why?
Amethyst because the only other characters are Leila, Heron and Thomas. I've not developed Leila much yet, I'm not allowed to say Heron because he used to be based on me, and Thomas is an absolute shithead. Also Amethyst is a complex character from the start. Thomas is literally just a capitalist and Heron's complexity comes from later events.
4. What other pieces of media could share a fan base with your WIP?
Well, in its current form it kind of comes from my Victorian lit obsession, and it's going to be epistolary so… Dracula. Though it has very little in common with Dracula other than being epistolary and Victorian.
Other than that, I think it has some similarities to the Cogheart books? It's been a while since I read them, though.
5. What has been your biggest struggle while writing your WIP?
Heron's fucking name. And just. Chapter one. I've started it four times by now and I've only just worked out it in a way that isn't absolutely fucking terrible.
6. Are there any animals in your story?
… they're all dragons. I guess that counts?
7. How do your characters get around?
In the usual way (they walk. Occasionally fly but walking takes less energy and is more what the city's built for anyway.)
8. What part of your WIP are you working on right now?
Chapter one. Still. I've not even written out a plan. Maybe I should do that at some point – that tends to help me get stuff done. And it'd let me work out how to pace stuff. Why have I not done that yet?
9. What aspects of your WIP do you think will draw people in?
Ummmm… Heron being useless for several months straight aroace. Nah idk really. Just the vibes. The misery. The hint of hope. The Orpheus and Eurydice metaphor that appears in the current version. The hopes that Heron will give in to his urges and just fucking BITE Thomas. Amethyst possibly being Zouelle A Face Like Glass coded. This makes no sense. I full-on just forgot Zouelle's last name oh well.
#character: heron#character: thomas#character: leila#character: amethyst#Most of this is incomprehensible#Just so everyone knows A Face Like Glass is a book by Frances Hardinge#Because her books and Victorian lit and Fallen London are all I ever talk about /hj

Went on a jog today and there was a very tame heron sitting on the railing in Camden Lock Market! It was so cool to be close to them but sadly that probably means they've been fed human food, which is not good for them :(

28th September 2023: Bushy Park
More photos from today in this set are of: 1. Grey Squirrel. 2. Water mint. 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8. Beautiful views of this picturesque park adorned by willow trees, I always enjoy the quite artistic surroundings here especially by the water and it was nice to see the sun bursting through at times. 4. A Small Heath I enjoyed seeing in the midst of Red Deer watching and walking around, doing this trip or one like it every year it's interesting you always get something unique to that particular year's trip and this was that moment this year I had seen them at Richmond Park briefly before I believe and it was a nice moment watching this pretty butterfly which I've had a good year for. 9. One of the stars of the trip always, a Ring-necked Parakeet ensconced in a chestnut tree. It was a delight to watch these streamlined emerald birds dashing through the sky with their eccentric calls and weaving through trees. These are birds we have locally now too so these royal park visits no longer bring them into our year but there's still such a special and atmospheric thing about being embraced by them when around London. They are charismatic to watch. 10. Another of the star birds of this place enjoyed again and a star this week for me, the exotic Egyptian Goose.
Alongside the numerous Red Deer and Fallow Deer seen well which my last post mentions, other highlights today were a fair few Jays seen well making it feel autumnal, Carrion Crow, a duo of Jackdaw and Feral Pigeon taking in an interest in our lunch and tea and muffin stops, Green Woodpecker, Grey Heron, Cormorant atop the Diana fountain, a nice few House Martins and possibly Swallow, a nice few Starlings not once we've seen here often before, Robin, Great Tits, elegant Mute Swan, great Moorhen and Coot views, Tufted Duck, Gadwall, Common Darter and Migrant Hawker dragonflies, wasp and hoverfly. Beautiful water lilies, hawksbeard, ragwort, creeping thistle, spurrey and hawthorn berries were other plant highlights. It was good to see Goldfinches and possible Hummingbird hawk-moth in the garden this morning.

On a typical rainy morning in London, Hyde Park, Grey herons and Ravens... Crows...? Those I can never differentiate...
Fact about Herons from Wild Life Trusts: “ Herons are often seen standing as still as a statue on their long thin legs in shallow waters of ponds and lakes patiently waiting for their next meal to swim by.”

Lavenderstar Lore Dump
Lavenderstar won by an overwhelming margin compared to Joy, so let's hear about Heron's mama!
If you have any questions about her please leave them in the replies and I'll be sure to answer them.
~~~
Lavenderstar (formerly Lavenderflood) was the leader of JuniperClan on the HMS Juniper. She was the former deputy under the prior leader, Wispstar.
110 moons when she passed (born ~1692), she’s had three litters in the past with Tommy, a shipyard cat who would occasionally join the HMS Juniper on short trips. All of her living kits have gone onto other ships or became shipyard cats.
She was noted for her great speaking and fighting skills, though she rarely needed to use the latter.
Lavenderstar was likely a Norwegian Forest Cat / Maine Coon mix. She was descended from hundreds of warrior ancestors as far back as cats traveled alongside Two Legs.
She was confident in the validity of her half-clan kits and did not hide them from JuniperClan, nor shame any other half-clan cats or kitty pets.
Family Status
Tommy: Alive in North London (Mate)
Litter 1
Shiningpelt: Alive in North London (Daughter)
Ambereyes: Deceased (Son)
Litter 2
Foggykit: Deceased (Son)
Frostypaw: Deceased (Daughter)
Good Omens London Trip 🐍💞🪽
It's my Birthday today and I treated myself to a trip to London last weekend to see my favourite actor Michael Sheen in Nye at the National Theatre. I made the most of my weekend by combining it with a Good Omens filming location self-tour and I'd love to share it with you all. So, are you ready for the tour?
Here we go!
Starting off with Soho, and the inspiration for Whickber Street, where Aziraphale's bookshop, Give Me Coffee or Give Me Death, The Small Back Room, and the Dirty Donkey are located.
It’s Berwick Street and a record shop that is very similar in shape to A.Z Fell & Co. Bonus points for spotting Duck Lane!
Next is Berkeley Square, a short walk from Soho. The first two photos are of the real Berkeley Square gardens in Mayfair, and the last two photos were taken in the filming location of Tavistock Square across the other side of central London near Kings Cross. I’m sitting on their ‘body swap’ bench in the last photo!
As you can see, the benches are turned around facing inwards now but are the other way, facing outwards in Good Omens.
Oh, and I can confirm that there were no nightingales singing in either location 😭
Heading up the road a few minutes from Tavistock Square to The Enterprise pub where I met a fellow fan who kindly took photos of me posing (I bet the staff thought we were off our rockers!). This is where Crowley drowns his sorrows in Talisker Whisky whilst waiting for the world to end after thinking he'd lost Aziraphale. Omg that poor poor demon, he was really just gonna die along with the world.
Also, one of my favourite moments of season 1 is Crolwey's line: "I heard that. It was the wiggle-on..." then shrugs. 😆 So many emotions in such short a time.
Onto the Ritz. The first two photos are of the real Ritz (a stone's throw from Berkeley Square) and the last one is inside Masala Zone in Piccadilly Circus where the ‘Quite extraordinary amounts of alcohol’ and ‘To the World’ scenes were filmed.
I ate in here alone to get the photo and was so lucky with the table I was given! Perfect discreet snap whilst eating my curry! Haha!
Next up is Battersea Park and the Bandstand. It was a bit of a faff to get there, it's an 8-minute walk from the Battersea Power Station underground and we walked the full length of the park to find the Bandstand, but it was so worth it.
Also filmed here was Gabriel and Aziraphale’s run/jog. Poor Angel is soft scene.
The trees were a little leafier with it being mid-May and the park was very busy because the weather was glorious. They also have a beautiful lake here with herons!
The Heaven & Hell staircase escalators are right over the east side of London in Broadgate Tower, Bishopsgate. I got the overground to Liverpool Street station to get there. It is in a private business building so I politely/awkwardly asked the receptionist if I could take a photo and had to explain about the scene from Good Omens… eek! But he kindly let me snap a photo anyway! (Phew)
The Windmill Theatre was three minutes away from my hotel in Piccadilly Circus, so I wandered up the road to take a photo of where Aziraphale ‘performed on the West End stage’ as Fell the Marvelous. And wasn’t he just?
The scenes weren't filmed here but it was fun to find it anyway.
St James’s Park is up next! I sat on their bench and got my friend to take photos of me posing and had fun editing the first photo. Haha! We enjoyed walking through the park, watching the ducks on the lake and had a nosey at Buckingham Palace while we were there.
The Duke of York Statue steps are at the other end of St James's Park and were fun to walk up. I smiled to myself as I thought of the scene where Crowley says ‘Well let's have lunch? Hmm,’ and Aziraphale turns around, as it was the first time I realised that these two were more than just friends.
Heaven’s top floor, the Sky Garden in Fenchurch Street near Monument is a very tall building with a botanical garden on the top floor. You can visit the sky garden for free, but you do need to book in advance so it’s best to plan ahead for this one. The views of London are breathtaking from the 35th floor and the tropical plants are fun.
My last stop for this visit was Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. I booked a tour on the morning I was due to go home. The first tour is 10 am and lasts an hour, so I dashed off as soon as the tour guide was uttering his last words about the gift shop, across London back to Kings Cross to pick up my suitcase from luggage storage and get the 11:48 am train home!
One I missed and could have easily gone to is St Margaret Street where Newton and Shadwell meet, and Shadwell fleeces Newton for a cup of tea with nine sugars and pockets the change. A bit gutted I missed it to be honest – I love Jack Whitehall (I’m back in London with the family in June so I’ll swing by and update then!)
There are also some other locations a little further afield that I might try to visit on a later date, such as Shadwell's and Madam Tracy's flat down Hornsey Road in Islington, Crowley's Flat exterior in Eastfields Avenue, Best Cafe on Garratt Lane where Crowley meets Shadwell, Crystal Palace Dinosaur Park where the ineffable husbands watch Warlock defacing a dinosaur sign and Antonella's Cafe and Bistro where Crowley and Aziraphale are thinking of ideas to track down the antichrist whist Aziraphale eats cake.
Okay, I’m gonna finish up with the man himself. The very kind, very charming, and VERY patient Michael Sheen The reason for my London visit in the first place. Nye was spectacular OBviOUsLy, but he was super generous with his time at stage door for us all. I got a hug and asked him to pass it on to Aziraphale (that angel really needs a hug) and it made him laugh, which made my night!
Check out my reblog for extra locations when I visited London again a month later, and for a hilarious bonus photo of.... Gabriel??!
Here’s the wonderful map I used -
