Thinking about how I kinda pitched my story as a hell striving for utopia, with a lil hint of the moral authority being the “mad/bad guys”
When it’s more like, a hopeful critique of Utopia. It’ll always be struggle to make a safe place, but that struggle with keep Many happy and safe, even if not perfect
And that the moral authority, while being tortures are also soul themselves that have experienced a millennia of grief and been traumatized by their family as well as the memory of an earth that can no longer connect to, and really want to bring Justice to a life they feel will never be just
And how there’s whole other parts of hell with their own magic rules, coping with grief by making reality a dream. Spirits crafting their own rules on the backs of sleeping demons, demons acting as if they’re just a tree to watch what will happen, quiet nudges, or a world unlike anything seen before

a novel life pt.2
Summary: You're trying to make nice with Sam's little sister, for everyone's sake. Maybe it leads to an interrogation. Maybe it leads to more. And maybe you end up sucked into the unusual events that follow Legacies
Word Count: 4.3k Warnings: swearing, distrust, mentions of past trauma, mentions of blood, mentions of Scream typical violence Pairing: Samantha Carpenter x GN!Reader A/N: Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy Yule, and whatever holidays y'all all celebrate 🫶 (pt.1) (pt.2) (pt.3) (pt.4) (pt.5)
“Are you sure this is okay?” You asked as you nearly tripped over your feet.
Sam gave you a look that was both sweet and condescending. “Yes, because I said so.”
“That doesn’t seem like solid reasoning,” you mumbled, but nonetheless continued following her up the steps to her apartment.
It was nearing Halloween, with the cooling air finally allowing for the use of jackets. Which you had few of, since Sam had decided to keep them for herself. Not that there was anyone to blame but yourself; it was what you deserved for offering her jackets every time she forgot one. She had simply decided it was rather nice to have an unlimited selection of jackets, both too-large and just right.
In all her wisdom, Sam had suggested the two of you, and Tara and her partner have a movie night. Tara got to choose the movie, and no one could object. All in all it should have been a win for the younger Carpenter; she could make you suffer if she truly wanted, and you couldn’t say a word about it. Which was going to cause the night to be very, very long.
Oh, the things you would do for her.
“Is she going to pick something scary?” You asked before you both approached the door. “Because I don’t like scary.”
“I have no doubt it will be scary,” Sam said with a barely-concealed smile. “I’ll hold your hand to keep you safe.”
“You’re my hero,” you said as you leaned forward to press a chaste kiss to her lips. She tasted strongly of the cigarette she had smoked on the way from your apartment to hers.
You tried to pull away, but she quickly followed, keeping her lips pressed against yours. Every sense was enveloped by her. Her smell, her taste, the feel of her body pressed against yours so tightly it was as if you would float away without her. There was nothing you could have ever wanted more than your Sam.
“We shouldn’t give Tara something to be upset about,” you mumbled against Sam’s lips when she finally pulled back just the slightest distance.
“Tara’s always upset,” she answered before sighing, “but you’re right.”
“Baby steps,” you said with a smile.
“For the big baby.”
“Samantha.”
“I’m kidding,” she tried to argue as she grabbed your hand and started finally moving into the apartment.
You both knew she wasn’t kidding.
“My dude!”
You had barely walked through the door when Tara’s partner called out to you, a genuine, toothy grin visible on their face. They had asked you to call them J, which you had happily agreed to. Sam teased that it was short for Joker - you assumed because of the scars - but the look on Tara’s face told you not to ever bring it up. Ever.
It was a rule you could oblige by.
“It’s a pleasure to see you again,” you said as you hung your coat on the back of one of the chairs at the dining table. It had only taken you dropping your coat once before you realised the Carpenters saw no need for a coat rack.
How utterly uncivilised.
“They think it’s a pleasure to see me,” J said to Tara, who rolled her eyes almost instantly.
You would never say it aloud, but you noticed the small smile she sent their way. So, she wasn’t as heartless as she wanted you to believe. Exactly like her older sister. It would be simple enough to chalk it down to their past experiences with the world; it had taught them nothing but hardness. But maybe they both just needed a safe space to let those walls come down.
“What did you choose?” Sam asked. She very quickly made her way to the couch opposite Tara and J.
“Depends,” they said.
“On?” Sam asked.
J turned to look at you and held something up to their mouth. “What’s your favourite scary movie?” The voice came out almost robotic, sounding similar to… something you possibly recognised? Vaguely?
“That’s not funny,” Sam said quickly.
“Lighten up, Sam,” Tara said even though she pushed J’s hand - and the voice changer - into their lap. “We’re watching Hellraiser.”
“Thought you didn’t like that one,” Sam said. She reached over and grabbed your hand the moment you sat down beside her on the couch.
Tara’s eyes darted to where your hands were joined and lingered. “I don’t.” She looked back up at you with a hard gaze. “I picked it out just for you.”
“Oh,” you said, perking up instantly. “Thank you.”
You turned to look at Sam with a stupid smile on your face, missing the look J sent Tara. Well, this was turning into a lovely evening! Tara had picked out a movie just for you! Surely that was progress to the finest degree, was it not? If all it took was watching a movie with them every month, you were more than happy to do so. This was turning out to be a rather lovely evening.
At least you thought so until the movie started and you realised just exactly why Tara had picked the movie out just for you.
It was… well, it was a movie. Filled with hooks and needles and… blood. Oh gosh, so much blood. There was a singular blessing amongst it all; you hadn’t eaten before coming over. Thankfully the popcorn sat untouched between you and Sam as your stomach twisted and turned and tried its best to embarrass you.
Sam squeezed your hand as you did your best to keep your cool. Not that it was such an easy thing with all the… you couldn’t even think the word without feeling queasy. Surely there was no way they all enjoyed this kind of thing, right? It was grotesque! The creatures on the screen, the inhumanity of it all, how was it an enjoyable movie?
The room started to shrink around you. Oh, that wasn’t good, you didn’t want to feel claustrophobic, you were trying to be tough. You couldn’t let anyone know that you had an, um, aversion to blood. What would they say? They were all horror fans, how could you ever possibly mention that you just… didn’t enjoy it? Quite frankly, it made you sick to your stomach, like all those science experiments you had to do back in grade school.
The credits couldn’t have rolled a moment too soon. If anyone were to ask you what you thought, you wouldn’t have been able to answer. The only thing you were aware of was your heart beating loudly in your ear and the saliva that continued to fill your mouth. Maybe it would actually be better if you didn’t try to answer anyone for a few more moments.
“So, Professor,” Tara asked all too soon. “What did you think?”
“I-”
-You cut yourself short. There was a part, a rather significant part of your mind that said you should lie. Tell Tara it was a wonderful movie, and you would love to see more if it existed. But lying had never gotten you anywhere in the past, had it? It certainly wasn’t going to assist you in winning over Tara, not when she was already sceptical of you. How was a lie going to assist you?
It wasn’t.
“It’s not my cup of tea,” you finally said before swallowing the remaining saliva in your mouth. “I don’t really enjoy scary movies.” You nodded to yourself. “Or blood.”
“Oh my god,” Tara huffed, “why can’t you just lose your shit about something?”
“Tara,” Sam warned.
“No, this is ridiculous,” she continued as she stood up from the couch, ignoring J reaching for her hand. “Why can’t you lose your shit?” She pointed at you. “Nobody is this level-headed about everything.”
“That’s enough,” Sam said as she followed suit, standing up from the couch. Similarly, you reached out for her hand but she moved just far enough away.
“Get out,” Tara said before promptly looking Sam dead in the eyes.
“Excuse me?” Sam asked.
“Get out,” she repeated.
“Hey, T-”
“-You too,” Tara interrupted J, who froze with a comically shocked expression on their face. “Both of you get out so I can talk to them-” she pointed at you “-alone.”
“Absolutely not-”
“-Sounds reasonable,” you interrupted Sam. She looked at you like you had grown a second head. “I would love to talk.”
“Come on, Baby Ghost,” J said as they stood up. You were starting to feel left out by being the only one still sitting. “I’ll buy you a new pack of cigs.”
Sam looked like she wanted to argue, but both you and Tara gave her a look. Differing looks, of course, but still. While Tara seemed to get her a death stare that was almost permanently etched onto her face, you tried to go the more convincing route. If Tara wanted to talk, who were you to tell her no? Talking was key, that’s what your family had always done and it had never ended poorly.
“Fine,” Sam finally said. She seemed resigned. “But you have 15 minutes and that’s it.”
“Deal,” Tara said. “Now get out.”
You stayed as still as a statue when Sam leaned down and pressed a kiss to your lips. A little more forceful than usual, but you wouldn’t complain. Any kiss from her was perfect. A sigh came from behind her, and you both knew who it was from, but she took her time before pulling away and standing back up.
“Don’t let her bully you,” she said.
“Sam,” Tara said forcefully. “Get out.”
“Fine,” Sam said, throwing her hands up. “But I mean it,” she said as she and J walked to the door together. “15 minutes.”
You and Tara both watched your partners leave the apartment, practically abandoning you to the force of nature that was the youngest Carpenter sister. It shamed you to admit you were a little afraid of her. You knew there was something going on deep down that she either wouldn’t or couldn’t accept, and you wouldn’t dare fault her for it. But she let her internal frustrations out in a very external way.
“What’s wrong with you?” Tara asked the moment the door shut behind the two. You stayed silent. “You don’t yell, you don’t scream, you don’t even freak out when I put on a movie I knew you would hate.”
You waited a moment to make sure she was finished. “I was raised by two very… pacifistic parents,” you said, gesturing for her to sit on the couch opposite you. “We talked through our issues, we didn’t yell about them.”
Tara opened her mouth as if she was about to argue, or complain, or something. Slowly, her mouth closed and she pursed her lips. She kept looking at you, but slowly took a seat opposite you. There was something going on behind her eyes, you could see it, but you knew better than to question her just yet. Just like your mom had taught you; let them lead the conversation.
“I don’t trust you,” she said slowly. Her eyes stayed locked with yours. “You’re too understanding and too kind.” You stayed silent. “Sam only ever falls for freaks.”
“Didn’t she date an FBI agent?” You asked. You could vaguely remember what Sam had said about her, but she had seemed nice enough.
“Kirby is cool, I’ve always liked her,” Tara said with a dismissive shake of her head. “But she was attacked by Ghostface twice,” she said, “so she’s a freak by proxy.” She looked back at you. “So what’s your deal?”
You shrugged. “I don’t know,” you said, “ask your questions and maybe you can find out.”
It had initially been your idea, but before Tara could even open her mouth you started to second guess yourself. Perhaps allowing her to ask whatever questions she wanted without any repercussions was… not the smartest idea on your part. You had nothing to hide, but what if she really started to ask unusual questions? What if your answers weren’t what she wanted to hear?
But when you thought of Sam, and being with her, you felt that, without question, it was worth the gamble.
“Have you ever used a knife?” Tara asked quickly. It seemed she wasn’t going to wait.
“Not outside of cooking,” you answered just as quickly.
“How about a gun?” So, it would be a rapid fire interrogation. Game on.
“Never.”
“Ever hurt anybody before?” A tilt of her head.
“Not on purpose.”
“What about animals?”
“No.”
“Not even in science class?”
“I-” you attempted to clear your throat to buy a bit of time “-I fell ill that day.”
Tara paused and narrowed her eyes. “Because of blood.” It wasn’t a question.
“Yes,” you said anyway. “It makes me sick to my stomach.”
“You’re pretty pathetic,” Tara said as she leaned back on the couch. For the first time in… well, ever, you thought you almost saw her smile at you. “That’s exactly Sam’s type.”
“I thought you said it was freaks,” you pointed out.
“Pathetic freaks,” she corrected quickly. That quirk near the corner of her mouth rapidly disappeared. “Why did you choose Sam?”
You paused. It was uncertain what exactly Sam had told Tara about you both meeting. Surely she wouldn’t have overdramatised it, but had she told her the truth? The truth was… well, it was pathetic as well, but you weren’t entirely convinced Tara would approve. Not that it was entirely her place, but the two were the only family each other had. They both had a right to be cautious of anyone new coming into their lives.
But perhaps you could answer the question a little differently.
“She’s kind,” you said with a subconscious nod of your head. “And bold, and intelligent - god she’s intelligent - and brave.” You averted Tara’s eyes. “And she’s really pretty too.”
Tara nodded once. “What are your intentions with her?”
Another question that you believed was potentially a trick. You couldn’t very well say you loved Sam just yet; you hadn’t even told Sam that little piece of information. But there were other intentions with her even if you didn’t necessarily use the word “love.” There were other things that were just as important.
“I don’t want to sound overly self-important,” you started off, looking back up to meet Tara’s eyes. “But I would very much like to be the one by Sam’s side as she continues on this path she’s created for herself.”
Tara looked at you; really looked at you. She was so very difficult for you to read. Unlike Sam, Tara did a better job at hiding her emotions. While Sam would give it away with her facial expressions, Tara did not. No, her feelings came out differently, whether in the slight twitch of her fingers or the impatient tapping of her foot on the rug. You hadn’t been around her long enough to know what exactly those feelings were, you simply acknowledged they were feelings.
“I’ll give you a chance,” Tara finally said, her voice far softer than you had ever heard. At least when it was directed at you. “But if you do anything to hurt her, or upset her, or lie to her, I won’t hesitate to kill you.” You gulped. “I’m not afraid to kill again.”
“I forgot you’ve both killed someone before,” you mumbled to yourself before speaking up louder. “Those are acceptable terms.”
“Good,” she said with a single nod of her head. “But don’t think this means I’ll go easy on you.”
You could both hear the other two finally approaching the door, bickering in a way that mimicked biological siblings.
“I would expect nothing less,” you told Tara as the door opened and the moment ended.
—---
The rest of the semester went by without incident. Tara had stayed true to her word and gave you a fair chance to prove that you could be trusted with her sister’s heart, and it wasn’t something you had taken lightly. You knew how important the both of them were to each other, and you had done your best to prove that not only did you care for Sam, but you cared for Tara too.
She had finally eased up during classes, allowing you to properly teach without an ounce of disdain for you personally. In fact, she had even dared to come to office hours on more than one occasion to discuss certain pieces you had offered as optional readings. The Carpenters were immensely intelligent, no matter what the subject matter was.
You and Sam had fallen into a rather comfortable routine, always going for a date night on Thursdays to whatever new place your colleagues had recommended, and movies with Tara and J on Saturdays. You would spend the night at her place Thursday through Monday morning, and she would stay at yours Monday through Thursday morning. It was comfortable, and you were more than content.
But with school finally over for the semester, you could focus on the real gem; Christmas.
Both Carpenters - and J, for that matter - had been nonchalant with their decorations. A minimal Charlie Brown tree that had, at most, four ornaments on it. It was awfully quaint, and if they hadn’t been so blase about it you would have been content to leave it standing. Nevertheless, they had made it clear they didn’t care if there were any decorations, and you had taken that as a cry for help.
Your own apartment had, of course, been decorated since the day after Thanksgiving. It was a wonderful gift from your mother, learning how to decorate for the holidays, and you weren’t keen on squandering the skills and letting them fall off the wagon, so to speak. Sam had made a few comments, though you hadn’t taken her for a non-believer.
“It’s okay, really,” Sam tried to say when you and J finished bringing in what had to have been the seventh box of decorations from your apartment.
“Oh no, I insist,” you said with a smile. “Besides, my mother would be downright dismayed if she knew the decorations were sitting in my apartment unused.”
“Great,” Tara mumbled as she walked by without even offering to help, “we get to live at the North Pole.”
“Isn’t it exciting?” You said with a smile. “These are more neutral, so you shouldn’t feel too out of place, but they still embody the holiday spirit.”
“Well I think it’ll be fun,” J said with their own smile. “Do I get to hang the ornaments?”
“Why-”
“-the ornaments won’t be the only thing hanging this Christmas,” Tara said, tossing a mini marshmallow into the air and catching it in her mouth. “Especially with those blinding lights.”
You looked down at the ones in your hand and frowned. “I thought they were rather tame.”
“And they’re lovely,” Sam tried to cover, even though you could see the fake smile she had on her face. “You’re doing great,” she continued as she left a simple kiss on your cheek.
The decorating ended up being a one person job, you quickly realised when you discovered J could not, for the life of them, listen to instructions. More than once, the lights had been blown and you had to find the faulty one to fix it. Normally you would chalk it down to bad luck, but when it was only the ones that they were installing? You became a little suspicious.
At least they were all eager to help with the snacks and desserts, and that was something you could live with. Surprisingly, Tara was the one who had the most ideas. You knew you weren’t the best cook; you could follow instructions but that didn’t necessarily mean they would turn out nice. But with Tara at the helm? They were almost as good as your mother’s! Though obviously you would never dare to tell her that.
You also rather quickly discovered that they were not gift giving people. Understandable, you supposed, they had much more important things to worry about in life. It was still unacceptable. The moment you had found out, you had called your parents and told them the tragic news.
Gifts for all three of them - plus a gift each for Mindy, Chad, and Anika - had been delivered to your house within the week. Express shipping to be certain they would arrive before Christmas.
Which led to yet another tragedy; they had no stockings.
“It’s really not worth buying,” Sam attempted to persuade you over the phone on one of the rare nights you two weren’t spending together. “Just stay home tonight.”
“It’s no trouble, Sam,” you argued. “I’m heading out for a bit anyway.”
You didn’t admit you were already at the store, trying to decide which one would fit each person best.
“Just stay safe,” she said. You could hear car horns in the background but thought nothing of it. “I mean it.”
“I’ll be safe,” you insisted, “I always am.”
“Call me when you’re back home,” she said.
“Yes ma’am,” you said with a smile that she couldn’t see.
She hung up first, and you continued your search without any second thoughts. In the end, you had decided on a Santa stocking for J, a reindeer for Tara, and a snowman for Sam. They would look lovely hanging underneath the mounted television in their living room. But with the stockings, you needed things to fill them with.
Santa’s work was never finished.
It was dark by the time you finished buying everything you believed you needed. Stockings, fillers, and some snacks to make for a lovely evening. That should surely be enough to give the three of them a very merry Christmas, would it not? Your mother had already sent their Santa presents, and their other presents were underneath the tree, so as far as you were aware of at the moment, everything was taken care of.
You were still going over your mental checklist when you heard a commotion down one of the alleys on the way home. Every cell in your body told you not to bother looking; people got desperate around the holidays and it would do you no good to go poking your head where it didn’t belong. But if someone was getting hurt, then you needed to attempt to help.
Or at least make enough of a scene that someone else would come help.
“Excuse me?” You called out foolishly as you started down the dark alleyway. “Is everyone alright out there?”
You pulled your coat tighter around you as you continued walking. It hadn’t been raining or snowing recently, and yet something started to soak through your shoes and socks. The shocking cold that normally came from liquids in December wasn’t present; it was warm.
There was another noise. It almost sounded like something solid, but it was overshadowed by something metallic. You did your best to see something in the dark, even as your body continued to tell you to move along. But something didn’t feel right; you were feeling queasy again.
Something hissed in front of you, but it wasn’t a snake. No, you knew what those sounded like and this wasn’t even close. This sounded much more human, though that sound would only ever really happen in dire circumstances like if-
-a large white mask faced you. It was the only thing you could see in the dark, thanks to the lights behind you causing just enough radiance to make the mask almost seem luminescent. You weren’t a movie buff, especially not scary movies, but you weren’t stupid. Everyone knew what that mask was.
Ghostface.
All those cells that had been telling you to run? They were silent. Frozen in fear, just like your mind. The killer wasn’t moving toward you, simply facing you, almost as if it was the very reason you were stationary. Which, it was, but not in the typical way that most would be privy to. You felt like a deer in headlights, and if you moved then you died.
You supposed that was how all the movies went.
“Aren’t you going to run?” Ghostface asked, in that same voicebox that J had had during the movie night.
You swallowed the saliva filling your mouth. “No,” you said in a trembling voice.
“Why not?” He continued. “I like when they run.”
“I’m not very fast,” you said. “You’ll catch me before I get to the street.”
He still didn’t move, and your eyes finally adjusted enough to see the silhouette of a body slumped at his feet. Your throat constricted at the sight; you were going to be sick. The very image started to worm its way into your brain; there was a very simple explanation for what was still soaking through your socks. It wasn’t snow.
“You should get home, Professor,” Ghostface said.
You nodded, even though you weren’t sure if he could see you. “Yes I should.”
“Stay on the sidewalk next time,” he said.
“I- I believe that’s sound advice,” you said with more frantic nods of your head. Your palms were starting to get clammy.
Ghostface lifted up a hand - holding a knife - and waved. “Good night, Professor.”
“Good night,” you said with your own shaky wave.
You walked backwards out of the alley, keeping an eye on the figure until it was completely out of sight. Your feet were frozen on the ground once you were under a street light. There were no more sounds coming from the alley, not even the sound of someone leaving. Wherever Ghostface had gone, he hadn’t followed you.
In an incredibly brave moment, you leaned over and vomited directly into a storm grate before going back home. You called Sam the moment you got back into your apartment.
You couldn’t find the courage to inform her of the night’s mystery encounter.

"Do you want to know a secret?" (The Portal)
I think that the rules of writing are overblown.
Don’t get me wrong, there are things you should and shouldn’t do when telling a story, but those are more guidelines than actual rules.
Case and point, She-Ra is a story predicated on repetition, which shouldn’t be as entertaining as it is. The “bad ending” is effectively another season, which is a unique premise, and a threat that the story absolutely delivers on multiple times.
But, to me at least, the story is enthralling, and keeps me coming back to it. It works, not despite its repetition, but because of it.
Although, that isn’t exactly true. I’ve described the story as cyclical before, but it isn’t entirely. It’s a spiral, because the cycle of abuse is an innately unstable dynamic, and will only end in tragedy if it isn’t broken.
If you don’t want to take my word for this, I give you the season 3 finale, The Portal, which spells out the series’ thesis in about as blunt of a way as is possible.
Let me explain.
SPOILERS AHEAD: (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Watchmen, Batman: The Killing Joke, Superman: For The Man Who Has Everything, Justice League Unlimited)
I grew up reading Alan Moore comics, and if you don’t know who that is, I both pity you and envy you. Alan Moore is one of the most misrepresented writers of the modern age, and its entirely his own fault.
Moore is known for writing V For Vendetta, The Killing Joke, and Watchmen, all of which have a distinctly grim tone. He is one of those writers who seems to care more about the story he is telling than how much people enjoy it, and so he usually has a point to make.
Unfortunately, we end up with the Cyber Punk dilemma, in which Alan Moore’s genuinely unrivalled literary talent leads to people really enjoying his stories, which means they unintentionally miss the actual themes of those stories. In the case of Watchmen, this led to people seeing the gore and the violence and the depression and trying to replicate that.
This is where we get The Boys from, shallow sadness and spectacle. If that’s your thing, go for it, but it isn’t mine.
But I bring up Moore in a discussion of She-Ra for a reason, and that is the relentless hope inherent in his writing. In Moore’s stories, hope prevails every single time, with the only exception being extremely subjective. The Killing Joke focuses on the idea that everyone is one bad day away from becoming evil, and that gets proven wrong. Watchmen is about how small humans are and how annihilation changes people, yet the characters are able to find joy and an escape from their trauma, and show kindness to each other even when the sky almost literally falls on their heads.
The Boys isn’t very good as an adaptation of Moore’s themes (In my opinion). If you want one that actually understands the source material, watch The Incredibles, or Justice League Unlimited, or She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.
I have praised She-Ra for its animation and pacing, as well as its overarching story, but I think its greatest strength is its humanity. Characters in She-Ra are incredibly fragile, psychologically, and yet they are incredibly resilient.
Catra and Adora’s development gets methodically and efficiently destroyed by Shadow Weaver, and yet Adora becomes a hero and Catra… well, we’ll see how that works out in later seasons.
One of my favourite Moore stories is a superman story from 1985 called For The Man Who Has Everything. This was adapted into an episode of Justice League Unlimited, but I prefer the comic.
The story follows Superman being forced to live out his greatest desire. It doesn’t sound that bad, but the point is that he is kept happy and therefore out of the picture while villains can do villain things. It’s very much a story from its time, and I love it.
Interestingly, however, Superman’s dream takes him back to Krypton, where he isn’t Superman, and he is happy. He has a wife, and a son, and he never lost anything. He can spend time with his parents.
Even with the shenanigans that ensue (because this is a comic), his time in this dream is fun, and relaxing. Until he works out he’s dreaming, and has to let it go. Superman gets the choice of happiness, or duty, and he takes duty.
The scene in which he says goodbye to his “son”, who does not exist and therefore does not matter, is heartbreaking, and if I ever do comic reviews, I’m talking about this one first.
I now turn your gaze to queen Angella, from whose perspective this story is being told.
The episode actually does a bit of a bait and switch with the point of view, convincing its audience that it is about either Glimmer or Bow, and it kind of is, but not entirely.
Angella has everything she could possibly want, her daughter, her husband, her city. There is no war, there is nothing. Everything is perfect.
“This is perfect, my love, but it’s not real. I remember now. I miss you so much, but Glimmer needs my help, and I can’t stay with nothing but memories. Goodbye Micah”
Does this ring any bells?
I want to point out that this is still Catra’s hallucination, the thing that she wants. So why does she want Angella and Glimmer to be happy?
Catra wants Adora, and arguably loves her, but in an extremely dysfunctional way that says "if I can't have her, nobody can". She is petty, and fully the villain in this episode.
So, the way that she gets Adora to be hers is by ensuring that the people who accepted her would have no space for her in their lives. Why would Glimmer want to spend time with Adora? She has her father. Why would Angella accept Adora? She has her family.
What Catra doesn’t understand is that love isn’t transactional, and that these people are genuinely kind and accepting.
There's the idea of "what you are in the dark." The concept of what a person does when there are no consequences. Characters in this episode keep getting moments like this, when they know that they are fading from existence, and are given moments to show their true colours. Entrapta chooses to be grateful, Bow chooses to be reassuring, and Glimmer chooses to be emotional.
The thing that breaks people out of Catra’s reality is the unexpected. Its Catra’s lack of understanding of people that leads to those people being themselves and instinctively breaking free.
Case and point, Angella and Glimmer help Adora, and because this world was completely unprepared for that minour act of kindness, it can’t keep them contained.
Now, I know what scene you are expecting me to talk about, so I’m going to make you wait, and talk about Catra instead.
Catra is the villain of this episode. If it wasn’t for this being set in her mind, she would have zero nuance. By which I mean, everything about her as a character here is done externally, the way she acts makes her seem like a generic, abusive partner.
Because let me be clear about Catra’s actions here. This is abuse, and it is treated as such by the story. The show doesn’t make apologies for her in this episode, or try to justify it here. Subtlety be damned here, Catra is abusive.
And so, I will read her this way, for this episode. We have seen the nuance leading up to this moment, and we will see a redemption arc. But this is Catra at her lowest, and so I will put aside the past and future to examine the present and the present only. Catra is abusive.
There are two ways you could read this drop in subtlety. One, there are parts of this character that you aren’t seeing, left blank. This episode is presenting you with a character and not showing you the whole thing. Or two, this is a character who has been broken by the story, almost as if parts of her have been removed or lost. Catra is now a fragment of her former self.
I wonder if any of this is reflected in her character design.
“If you hadn’t gotten captured, your sword wouldn’t have opened the portal. If you hadn’t gotten the sword and been the world’s worst She-Ra, none of this would have happened. Admit it Adora, the world would still be standing if you had never come through that portal in the first place.”
This hurts Adora because it’s true. Ok that’s unfair, and inaccurate, but it’s not entirely wrong, and that’s the kicker.
Catra isn’t making this up, she’s just leaving out important details. Because of course, if Adora hadn’t been captured, things would have worked out better, but who was it that captured her? Who was it that made the choice to pull the switch? Who was it that destroyed the world out of spite?
Catra blames Adora for her own actions, and that is, once again, abuse. Which is why it’s so satisfying when Adora stands up for herself.
“I didn’t make you pull the switch. I didn’t make you do anything. I didn’t break the world. But I am gonna fix it.”
Hope is relentless.
But I also want to point out the claiming of agency here. Catra was weirdly insightful at the start of her monologue.
“It's always the same with you, Adora. ‘I have to do this. Oh, we have to do that.’”
Adora’s word choice is a flaw. I looked back at the past few seasons and did a word search through the scripts. I don’t think Adora uses the word “want” more than once at all up to this point.
Essentially, Catra sees things, but extrapolates exactly the wrong message from it. It’s almost as if she’s only seeing half of the world, like her vision is impaired or incomplete somehow.
I wonder if that is reflected in her character design.
In any case, Adora frequently says that she “has to” do things. “Need” is also something she says a lot, and this has the effect of making her an extremely passive character in her own story.
Like I said, this is a moment of agency, but the entire story is a story about that agency. The characters are making choices to either get out of or go along with the downward spiral that the tragic form has set out for them. Catra made the choice to follow, but Adora didn’t. Adora’s word choice makes her look like she has made no choice, but a lack of action is still a decision.
So here, when Adora declares she is “gonna fix it", she takes her agency and decides to walk in a different direction.
This reminds me of an earlier episode, that being Promise.
Hey, look at that action. Looks familiar, right?
This is the only episode I found where Adora says she wants something, although her actual wording is “I never wanted to leave you” when talking to Catra. Go figure.
The moment in question was the episode’s namesake.
“It doesn't matter what they do to us, you know? You look out for me, and I look out for you. Nothing really bad can happen as long as we have each other.” “You promise?” “I promise.”
Agency. Adora is making a decision to stay with Catra and protect her. She is knowingly choosing to do something.
It’s telling that the two most prominent times Adora has done this have been to protect people. It’s almost as if she wants to be useful, or helpful, or protective. Almost as if she wants to be wanted. It would seem Adora is just as addicted to the highs of Shadow Weaver’s programming as Catra, she just has a better support group.
Although this isn’t a full victory, she doesn’t want to save the world, she is just going to, we still don’t know what Adora wants – this is a partial success. Hold onto that idea, it will come back later.
“Do you want to know a secret? I am a coward. I've always been the queen who stays behind. Micah was the brave one. And then Glimmer, oh, Glimmer. So much like her father. And once again I stayed behind, letting her make the hard choices, letting her be brave for me. I told myself I was being responsible, but, Adora, I was just scared. And then I met you. You inspired us. You inspired me. Not because it was your destiny, but because you never let fear stop you. And now I choose to be brave.”
Queen Angella is voiced by Reshma Shetty. She doesn’t get much praise, but for this monologue, I think she deserves so much more than she got.
In my fourth post about She-Ra, I discussed Adora’s ability to inspire and linked her to Batman, something I stand by to this day.
In universe, She-Ra isn’t important because she’s a warrior. She exists as a leader, to protect people and pull them into a greater tomorrow. She shines a light for others to follow.
That is what happens in The Portal, Adora succeeds not by fighting the enemy, but by being herself. She only becomes She-Ra to destroy the portal at the end. To save Etheria, the giant sword lady isn’t important.
I mentioned earlier that humans are fragile and resilient at the same time, and I give you Angella as evidence for that claim. Here is someone who has lost her husband, and makes decisions based on that fear and trauma. But when push comes to shove, the fear is secondary.
Reality falling apart lets directors get away with true nonsense. Micah's staff has no reason to be here, other than the fact that it makes a phenomenal metaphor for Angella's trauma. But that's all you need.
Jon Pertwee was the third doctor, and while he isn’t nearly as iconic or influential as some of his predecessors and successors, he did deliver the line that defined the whole series.
“Courage isn't just a matter of not being frightened, you know. It's being afraid and doing what you have to do anyway.”
I started my discussion of this season by claiming that this is the season in which the characters put a dent the tragic cycle, and I have mentioned several times that the cycle of abuse is unstable. So, here is my thesis.
Catra’s arc fails, not in a story sense, but in a personal one. The idea that every character has a single story arc is something is a specific bugbear of mine, and Catra is kind of my case and point for that. She has a redemption arc up to this point, and she ends up as a villain. Then the story continues and she has to start again and decide where to go next. She has no choice but to move in a different direction from here.
But she tasted redemption already. The crimson wastes gave her a taste of what she is missing, and it offered her an out. It gave her a choice, she made one, and consequences were served. I can’t help but imagine that for the entirety of the next season, she is considering running off to the wastes again.
That idea of consequences comes back with Adora, who makes a good decision, and is rewarded for it. Or rather, she makes a decision to actually do something. Adora becomes an active character, and that is what starts to break the cycle. Because now the motion is halted, and the puppets are pulling the strings.
But, this isn’t a complete victory. Angella is lost, Entrapta and Micah are still gone, none of the villains actually get defeated. For an episode with lasting consequences, not much actually happened.
This episode is big on the fact that this is all a dream, which should destroy the engagement. But it doesn’t. In reality, it preserves the status quo physically, but lets all the characters spontaneously experience character development. The victory of this season is that growth, but it came at a cost.
I want to briefly talk about that final shot, before I go, because this is how you introduce a villain. Sure, the voice acting is impeccable, and the cinematography gives an air of mystery and menace to this threat, but the showstopper is the reveal that this villain can destroy a moon with ease.
You see a fleet of ships, there was no battle here, just a villain showing off for nobody but himself. He gets interrupted by the plot, and he’s busy DESTROYING A MOON.
Horde Prime is f***ing terrifying.
This scene is in this episode too. It's meant to show how reality is falling apart, but I actually have a reading of why it's here. I think Catra wanted to preserve who Adora was, hence why she is the source of all the paradoxes. But Catra doesn't understand that Mara's legacy and Razz's teaching are a big part of Adora.
Final Thoughts
I’m going to talk about the implications for later seasons for a moment here, so if you’re avoiding spoilers, now you know.
I think Catra being the villain here makes her redemption so much more compelling, because she actually needs it. There is a difference between this and, for example, Hunter from The Owl House, who doesn’t really need redemption because he hasn’t done anything wrong.
Catra here has very much done wrong and is evil as defined by the show. But the show’s message is that anyone can change, and that the cycle of abuse isn’t set in stone.
So, Catra will redeem herself, and she will struggle, and fall back, and try again. Forgive her or not, the redemption is the effort to be better.
Next week (or whenever the next post is released, I have a terrible work schedule), I will be discussing The Coronation, so stick around if that interests you.

This might sound stupid, but imagine if there was a Queen Wasp au but with Rooster Bold being Akumatized.
How can I turn this into Marinette/Ladybug bashing?…
… Oh! I know!
So Queen Bee crashes the train, but get this! Marc and his little brother, Kiran were on it!
Kiran is badly injured, and not only does Marc blame Chloé, but he also blames Ladybug for losing the damn Miraculous
After rushing Kiran to the nearest hospital, Marc’s in the waiting room when he spots Ladybug out the window. She lets herself in and gives this spiel about putting together a small team of heroes to stop Chloé before she does some real damage, and Marc just snaps
When she offers him the Rooster Miraculous, she slaps it out of her hand and lays it into her, telling her that it’s her fault Kiran is in the hospital because she lost the Bee Miraculous, and now Queen Bee is going to hurt more people to prove her heroism
Then he goes on about all the other crap she’s pulled as a hero, and he REALLY lets her have it when she mentions that she could have killed hundreds of people with that stunt she pulled with the Mime
Anyway, an Akuma slips into the room and infects the Miraculous, and since Marc was the last one who touched it after slapping it out of Ladybug’s hand, he gets Akumatized
He becomes Harbinger, and seeks to find and take all the active Miraculous to ensure no one like Ladybug is wielding one
His quill turns into a feather-shaped sword and he has unlimited use of Sublimation.
Or… Rather than this taking place in place of Queen Wasp, it happens during Season 4 with more heroes
Ladybug messes up in some way and people get hurt because of her incredibly rash decisions she never learns from, and Marc is pissed because Kiran and/or Nathaniel are people who got hurt
Cue Harbinger
His quill sword is like Katana’s katana, only he steals the powers of any Miraculous user, allowing him to use those powers without the damn rules getting in the way

the heart doesn’t rest

Life is an atrocious comedy. It bounded those living on earth into a monotone life, abiding to the rules and regulation spat upon their feeble body with the absolute necessity to survive. The comparison between one individual is vast, some gifted freedom while some barred in silver shackles. A life like that, stipulated different meaning on existing, and for you, the relentless taunt that came while living as you; a hero, a villain, a fugitive, whatever that smeared your name to their recent beliefs.
Their names were equally cursed among the same anticipating their rescue for when tragedy strikes. Natasha Romanoff and Wanda Maximoff, the intelligent spy and the powerful witch. But the most, your girlfriends, your lovers, the ones you wish to marry—when life wouldn’t exist like a plague for anyone of you.
However, living off-grid had proven no victory to either you or them.
“I hate this,” was said loudly, as your body habitually leaned into her sturdy body. “It’s not fair. We could’ve— we should had been together, right now and always. Not rotting in different ends of the world,” you exclaimed, pressing your body further into hers with hopes of pacifying your throbbing heart.
Natasha’s hand spread on the space of your back, rubbing soothing circles to offer some sort of comfort to your fretting. The customary gloom appeared throughout the days apart from your lover, but Natasha stayed strong for you, and for Wanda.
“Malyshka, this is for our safety. Didn’t you like Norway?” she inquired, tilting your head to meet her eyes. Those verdant eyes, gleams flawlessly beneath amber light, and she stares into yours with utmost love and trust. “You wanted to come here when everything is over.”
It was true. Norway was a dream manifested into reality. You had murmured to them one night—when nude bodies laid on bed, limps tangled and at ease, where slick and sweat coats your skin and theirs, and the scent of arousal lingers for hours after—that you wished to live in the coldest parts of Norway.
Wanda had laughed. Teasing remarks fell from her mouth. You had troubles handling your body’s temperature, despite being born a witch. Utilising too much of your power would embark your body in waves of heat or unbearably coldness. The latter was more common.
Natasha queried for reasons why you had chosen that specific location. It stirred some kind of seriousness in the air as you confessed;
“I want to live in isolation. Maybe, we can have a farm, so we won’t need to depend on other’s produce…and we won’t be under their radars. I just want— I need the freedom to hold both of your hands, and kiss your mouth…without them watching,” you revealed, voice soft and laced with a hint of insecurity from confessing something so precious to your heart, of your dreams with them.
They didn’t discard your dreams or teased your vulnerable confession.
Instead, Wanda had enclosed her hand over yours which laid comfortably above your stomach, and Natasha followed the same course. Both grasping your hands warmly. The jovial look on their face, same hearts that that endured the worst and still flourished with such love. One day, they had promised, kissing you wholly and holding you close.
Then, Natasha brought you here. A safehouse in Norway. Just you and her. Finally—it spoke in such a bitter tone. The atmosphere which breathes of tranquility and away from chaos of large building, doesn’t alter your absolute dejection. Isolation was great, you once thought, before realising the special state of isolation was meant for three together, and not when apart.
“I do, you know I do,” you spoke softly, and pressed your head on her chest. The beating of her heart, reminded you of life, and that was enough till life changes for the better.
Natasha doesn’t force the non-verbal confession from leaving your sad mouth or force your gloom state into one that shone brighter than the sun. It aches her heart to know how you felt, while knowing that Wanda was suffering the same in another part of Europe.
After the horrific escape of a witch, as they so fearfully claimed, Wanda was transported immediately on the opposite direction of her lovers. Vision had accompanied her for further protection. It was ensured that different locations will promise the safety of everyone.
Edinburgh wasn’t anything like Norway, neither provided the safety of three lovers together.
It wasn’t fair, you had argued, shoving and spitting in the face of those imposing such ruthless verdict on lives that weren’t theirs. Natasha had stayed on their side. It was the best decision, she persuasively told you with her hand cupping your damped cheeks.
Betrayal dripped at your tongue for what your lovers failed to brawl over. Till you comprehended that it was more risking for everyone to stay together than it was to split their locations far apart from the other.
But the heart doesn’t rest. It yearns for lovers to unite, and not be left incomplete, just aching for the other to return home.
“I miss Wanda too,” Natasha confessed woefully. She felt the tug of your hand over hers, drawing her attention to your bleary eyes.
“What if,” you paused, conjuring the violet glow in your palm, and it effortlessly flushed through her hand in your grasp. “I bring her here and—”
“You can’t,” Natasha interrupted your whirling ideas, and witness the gleam of violet in your eyes intensifies, before fading to reveal the usual tint of your eyes. But it’s sadder, the most gloom she had ever seen you. “It’s not possible. It can hurt her, hurt you, and I can’t have that, ever,” she spoke with finality, not furthering your attempts as you dejectedly accepted her words.
Maybe, if life wasn’t a cruel fest for those yearning to proclaim lives that aren’t theirs—you would happily live together with them, you would wake in the morning in the comfort of their embrace, you would love them till the end, and love would bloom so beautifully together.
December would have been prospering in colourful decorations, music involving the wintry holiday, and January would had carried forward with that. When wishes would be made for gifts and more, you wouldn’t wish for anything else, as they were enough for your pulsing heart.
“Is Wanda okay?” you questioned, “Vision’s staying out of her way?”
Natasha’s soft chuckles lifts the solemn mood. “Vision is minding his own business. Don’t worry, he wouldn’t dare mess with our witch.”
You huffed, hot breath fanning the extend of her neck. “He better, or I’ll cut him into pieces.”
While the threat was uttered in sheer jealousy with a hint of playfulness, it wasn’t far from the wicked truth. Natasha noticed the sparks of violet in your eyes, it resurfaced at unwarranted moments which exposed your intentions to her and the honesty of your words. Handling two witches became her expertise at this stage.
“Okay, hot stuff,” Natasha teased, her thumb and forefinger grasps your chin, tilting your head upwards, and pressing a haste kiss on your pouting lips. “No more talking. Time to watch James Bond, it’s my favourite.”
You simply nodded, following after with a question, “Will you repeat every dialogue?”
Natasha doesn’t answer. Instead, she resumed the movie playing on her laptop. When a character spoke, her soft voice followed them. It flutters your heart, fueling warmth to witness her so unrestricted.
And there, where your body bask in her warmth, where your heart aches with hers, where love doesn’t fade but flourishes.
Natasha offers you comfort in ways you loved; her warm embrace, her wordless kisses on your skin, her jokes that made you laugh, her tender effort of ensuring you ate by feeding you, and her body close to yours.
It doesn’t offend her that you had refused her physical advances. But she vowed to ensure everything went accordingly to your preferences.
If you wanted silence, she offered it. If you preferred dotting down each reason for your hatred, she listened. If you claimed the holidays as a marketing scheme, she agreed while retaining herself from laughing at the childlike expression on your face. If you pulled her outside the old trailer with the declaration of making a wish, she undoubtedly followed your words.
One phrase that left mouths longing for their lover; I wish…Wanda was back home.
The vacant space between two, remained there, taunting hearts with agony.
But love—the one that pulses in your heart and hers, it stimulates the hope for soon. That a wish may come true as fairy tales proclaimed. That love shared between three would soon reunite, and what forces dare divide them, would cease to exist.
In the depth of an isolated forest, miles away from open road or any sort of human contact, an old trailer was parked and hidden from peering eyes. Almost appearing deserted by its tattered state, and dull colour. The residence in this part of town, minded their business which faultlessly kept the identities of hidden fugitives safe, and the promise of sheer remoteness.
What noises that may resonates in an old trailer or around, wouldn’t draw attention. It’s a space of utter isolation.
Thus, the sudden noise of an aircraft or the sounds of bodies clashing after weeks apart, made no difference to your deep slumber state and the non-existing folks around.
That morning was different, though, you felt the peace that engulf your mind in your deep slumber. Sleep hasn’t come easy since you had moved here with Natasha. The habit of sleeping between your lovers had made your body uneasy without them together, and the sentiments were mutual.
At that hour, your serene sleep had failed to comprehend anything pass reality. You felt the touch, something cold, something hot, something that tickles your skin with waves of familiarity. It does nothing, but draw an almost inaudible groan from your mouth as you resumed sleeping.
“Malyshka,” a syrupy voice whispered, slipping into your mind as though, a pleasant dream. Crimson hue sparks on your skin at her tender touch. It produces red wisps through the side of your head, each stroke reaching to the depth of your mind.
You found her there. Wanda. The softest emerald eyes glowing beneath the sun’s gleam, her eyebrows furrowed as she laughs at something and your heart flutters, but still incomplete. Till, you felt pairs of hands on your shoulder and turn to meet those eyes, an ocean shifting from the nature’s green to the deep blue. Natasha smiles at you, wrapping her arms around your body while Wanda embrace you from behind.
However, your dreaming state and deep slumber, doesn’t wake you for the reality that blessed your form. That she was there, they were truly there, together, admiring your body sprawled on the bed.
Wanda was sat crossed legs by your side, as though, admiring an exclusive relic, while opposite her was a mischief looking Natasha. “Go on,” the latter persuaded. “She’s really sleepy,” Natasha added, before grasping the warm hand of her lover. She guides famished hand to where your legs were spread apart, and the heat the emits as their hands neared your core.
“Oh,” Wanda’s mouth fell gape, her pupils dilated in sheer lust and tease of crimson that gleams in her eyes. Her hand greedily cups your heat, speckles of red flutters around. “You’re such a good girl,” she purred, finger drawing a line through your clothed slit and you whimpered in response.
Natasha marvelled at the sight. It made the experience more thrilling as her hand trails to your clothed breast. She kneads your supple breast, and the lack of bra made obvious of your erected nipple.
“Please,” you mumbled in your sleep. The twitches on your face made them laugh. Your hands enclosed around nothing, while your legs trembles at Wanda’s teasing touch.
Then, a loud smack echoes in the small room. Wanda’s hand met your core with a rough slap, inciting amused chuckles from Natasha. The quirks of your lips, almost pleading for them, and the lust that continues to flourish in your slumber.
And in your mind, still deep in oblivion, you seek refuge of them in your fantasy.
It made them happy to know love that thrives, despite far apart or when unconsciousness engulfs warm bodies.
Those nights which haunt your attempt of sleep, ceased to exist at that hour as florid dreams resonates.
You felt something more, a teasing touch of her lips on your skin, the hand of a witch and the touch of a spy. Wanda’s hand grasping yours, and Natasha holding your jaw firmly as she presses an eager kiss on your mouth.
The stickiness made known between your lower region, urge for your legs to rub together for some friction to appease your throbbing core. Your hand awkwardly travels a path down, and you watch them gawk at you, in your brilliant dream.
Unbeknownst to your slumber state, what you dreamed at that hour, mirrored your action in reality. Your hand had slipped into your pajama pants. Wanda’s hand long strayed from that space, opting to watch you instead. Natasha doesn’t touch you either, both craving to witness the erotic scene. Your fingers messily fondled with your clit. The muddled friction caused immense pleasure in your sleep.
Natasha clicks her tongue and shakes her head at your pathetic state. “Like you haven’t been masturbating in the shower since we came here,” she scolded, and forcefully attempts to remove your hand, but the gleam of red hindered her action.
“Let her,” Wanda uttered, lust filled eyes were enchanted by your sleepy moans, and the dire efforts for bringing yourself to climax.
They remained seated on each side of your body, Natasha to your left, and Wanda to your right. Temptation is heavy, a taunting voice urging for mouths to meet, for hands to touch, for slick to coat skins and mouth. It’s so burdensome that when two pairs of eyes glance away from watching you masturbate in your slumber state, a spy and a witch exchanged a wordless understanding that curls their lips.
Wanda doesn’t break their penetrating gaze as she grasps Natasha’s hand and tugs the sturdy hand of her lover to her face. Instantly, her mouth enclosed around two dominant fingers. Velvety tongue laps around Natasha’s fingers, coating her digits with saliva. It drew a moan from a witch, where the magic that streams through her blood, pulsates around three in pure ecstasy.
With the quick wave of her hands—clothes that cladded warm bodies, vanished into thin air.
The cold weather of Norway made them tremble, your mouth quipped with a groan. But warmth would soon embrace nude bodies, they promised.
Natasha made a noise of appreciation and amusement. Her nude lovers were before her round eyes, scorching in lust for days to come, for the nights that would not grant them sleep as bodies finally meet.
“Hmm, you’re so incompetent, aren’t you?” Natasha mocked, prodding her fingers further into Wanda’s mouth as her left hand found yours, still foolishly stimulating your clit. She was determined to aid you, knowing you were hopeless without their touch.
Her hand pressed over yours, each finger lining over the other as she controlled them over your cunt. Still in sleep and relishing your sensual dream, your hips bucked in response to her guidance. It felt real in your blurry mind.
A sole finger was thrust into your tight hole, each stroke produced slowly. You whined in your sleep, still craving for something that wouldn’t leave you at the brink of orgasm, but enough to reach climax.
The mere sight of her lovers so beautiful, so helpless, so feeble under her control. Natasha offers her gratitude to whoever allowed paths to crossed. For her to meet you and together, meet Wanda. Forever, drips from her sinful tongue so sweetly and honestly—to love, to protect, to pleasure.
Natasha doesn’t fitter away from admiring your glistering cunt, entirely clear for her ravenous eyes. She was unable to avert her gaze as her hand moves over yours.
As always, Natasha declared while scrutinising your efforts.
Your hands were useless at pleasuring yourself, if not for her guidance and some unexpected moments, under Wanda’s guidance. Her hand itched to grasps your supple breast, to pinch your nipples and taste you wholly in her mouth, to hear the helpless pleads fell from your mouth.
A blabbering mess—similar to Wanda, who gags at the sudden thrust of Natasha’s hand. But she doesn’t stop, her tongue continues to suck and nibble on her lover’s digits till she was pleased. Natasha tucks her bottom lips between her teeth, lust filled eyes glued on Wanda’s breast that bounces at the subtle movement to wake pleasure between her thighs.
It's pitiful, she conveyed to the witch’s mind and heard Wanda’s breath hitch. Her gaze travel downward, Wanda’s unshaven cunt doesn’t hide the wetness that gleams under faux light or the way her core was perceptible while crossed legs, exposing her arousal for her lover’s eyes. Natasha’s mouth waters at the sight.
“Good girl,” Natasha’s fingers curls in Wanda’s mouth, before pulling them out with a pop. A line of drool glides the corner of Wanda’s mouth.
Her darken eyes, an endless abyss of dusky viridescent—admires her lovers. Two witches, so powerful and so hopeless under her control. She clenched around nothing and slowly spread her legs apart, enough for her saliva coated fingers to slip between.
Wanda’s eyes widened as her round eyes unashamedly watch the fingers she sucked, disappeared in an auburn bush, the shade few notch darker than lover’s head of hair. She shifted slightly, inspecting the way Natasha thrust her own fingers into her hole, and thumb rubbing her clit chaotically. Wanda averted her gaze grudgingly when she heard your mouth released a loud moan, then stared at the double penetration of Natasha’s hand over yours. The spy’s skilled fingers curls on both ends, for you, and for her own pleasure.
It wakes a deprivation inside her body and a pleading desire which Natasha answered, “Show me.”
Show me how wet you are—repeats in her mind as her trembling hand fell over her cunt with a smack, then again. Wanda immerses herself in the sting which made her cunt throb for more. Whispers of praises aids her into slipping her two fingers between her folds, the tips of her fingers teasing her tight hole. Her eyes shut closed with the murmurs of a dream which you presumed was just that.
Moans bounced off the old walls while sloshing sounds propelled them into thrusting deeper into their cunt, the feeling almost foreign to them, and altogether with you. While wrist ached for what seemed like hours of glorious pleasure, you haven’t dare hindered your action or wake from your induced sleep.
“Are you close?” Natasha moaned, her fingers rubbing intensely on her clit. “Fuck, come for me,” she ushered, eyes trained on Wanda as she increased her pace.
Wanda felt the tight knot formed, seconds way from utmost orgasm. She gazed into the soften eyes of her lover, those sweet praises seeps into her mind as she slowly comes undone. Her motion slacks, body hunched at the tingling sensation that erupts, and a hazy smile took place on her face. Sweat trickles down her skin from the heat of bodies finally achieving their rightful indulgence.
Natasha, on the other end, hasn’t reach her wanting climax. She removes her fingers with a whimper, extending her hand to where Wanda’s mouth readily accepts those fingers drenched in arousal. Wanda moves her mouth, forward and back, downing the entirety of her lover’s juice.
Without a warning, Natasha pulled her fingers out of Wanda’s mouth and slammed them back into her tight hole. The warmth mix with wetness bridge her pleasure as her walls enclosed around her fingers. Her continuous thrust becomes sloppy. The uncontrollably moans falling from your mouth draw their attention to you.
Your stomach felt heavy, like you were seconds away from exploding in sheer ecstasy. It doesn’t dither your teasing touch, as your dream slowly fades and your eyes flutters open.
“Malyshka?” Wanda whispered in awed.
It seemed alluring—as your hand moved faster, even quicker than Natasha’s aided stimulation. You observed her skin glistering with sweat, pupils dilated with clear present of lust then you noticed Natasha’s hand over yours, and her facial expression matched with your other lover.
Natasha removes her fingers out of her clamping hole, and takes a deep breath at the empty feeling inside her. “This was—” and she halted the words that left her mouth, in response of seeing your puzzled expression. “Oh, poor baby,” she purred, slowly leaning lower to meet your face and pressing a haste kiss on your lips.
Her slick coated fingers jammed into your mouth seconds after, as you sucked on her, eyes shutting close at the taste that sweep your tastebuds. Wanda follows her lover’s advance and laid by your side with her head perched on her palm.
You felt their breast pressed on your skin, the bumps at every thrust, skin layered with sweat, and the smell—your moaned at that. It felt like a dream come true, the best way to wake, the best way to stay with them.
“You’re taking me so good,” Natasha praised, then meeting the equally enthralled eyes of Wanda. “I think she can take more,” she said, or more so, command.
Wanda doesn’t refuse her lover’s indication as her fingers teased her cunt, collecting her wetness in turn of pressing them to your mouth. Their digits were ramped into your mouth, curling and smiling as you gagged.
Reality seeps into your mind from their touch, from the praises that neared your edge as you come undone. Your mouth doesn’t stop its ministration on their fingers till they pulled their fingers out, and allowed you the chance to breathe and speak in blurred words.
“How,” you gasped, chest heaving as your breast budges at that notion. Natasha cups one breast with her hand, and palm your erected nipples before pinching them between her wet fingers.
Natasha’s fixation on your breasts, the manner she massages your breast then wrapping her mouth around your nipple, which action drew a hefty moan from your mouth—doesn’t offer your needed answer. Only pleasure made your mind blank from what you had sought from them.
“I missed you,” Wanda professed, and firmly kisses your moist lips. “I had to see you. Natasha said you’ve been sad. Is that true?”
You vaguely nodded your head. The mist of your dreams, your reality, and your sheer bliss state, doesn’t offer more.
“Awe, our baby’s so senseless,” Natasha mocked, her mouth leaves a line of saliva as she moves to your neglected breast. Your breath hitched at that, hand immediately falling on her head and urging her to suck on your nipple.
Wanda giggles with a look of content for finally having her lovers together, and misery would cease to exist. Her head softly rest on your collarbone, allowing the best view of Natasha relishing the feel of your breast in her mouth, and her own hand trails down your abdomen.
It doesn’t—it wouldn’t stop, and you happily bestowed your body to their starved touch to compensate for days apart.
And for once, after a long while, your heart found peace. When yearning was met with the smiles on their face, and concealed with every kiss. When home is found again.
A snowstorm had accumulated few feet of snow outside. Warnings were transmitted beforehand, though, it wasn’t something feared among heroes known to fighting the most mysterious presences. Besides, heroes and villains alike were cleverly trained in such situations. Natasha’s years training provided a sense of relief for possible causes after, while Wanda’s crimson gleam with the combination of your violet glow, was powerful enough.
In other words, you were equipped with the best team.
The horrendous weather nor the target on your head and theirs, could interfere the reunions of lovers. Holidays promised together were cramped in an old trailer. Several gifts were scattered around with a playful game amid its discovery. It was orchestrated for each individual’s inner child, and for hearts to feel better than what was expected outside this little heaven.
A Christmas hat was adorned on your head for the sake of holiday spirit in the middle of January. The horribly tuned radio played familiar melodies, some known, and some unfamiliar.
It was chilly inside, with the few blows of warmth from the heater. The weather wasn’t blamed, when clothes had failed to reach your body or theirs. Since Wanda’s arrival, nudity was the proposed option. Neither wishing for any material to create a barrier what they deemed as a beautiful sight, and you happily agreed, just steaming with the thought of seeing them walking around in their bare skin.
The graze of nude skin while walking close in compact trailer, ignited a fire within, or when a wet patch was left on the faux leather seat that gawked at her. And Natasha expertly lifted you over the counter, spreading your thighs apart as she devoured you.
“Baby, you’re so wet,” Natasha would mumble into your heated core. “Always,” offered as a whisper, where Wanda gawked at your defenceless state.
In a day, you had spent several times in the same position that your brain failed to remember the count. Complains never fell from your mouth, even when Natasha guided Wanda to thrust her tongue into your sensitive cunt. The continuous ministration left your body buzzing, tired, and craving them in every way.
Everything felt perfect.
Better than living among others, and only snatching few hours or if you’re lucky, few minutes of time together. But this life, it granted freedom that wasn’t timed.
Time with them made you giddy throughout the day and night. If not your beaming smile, your throat would burn from pleading and your mouth wide open as they teased your body; insensitively twisting your nipples, prodding your tight holes but never allowing the pleasure of filling you, the faint licks over your heated core that made your hips buck into their face—to only have them draw back.
Greedy, that’s what they’d say.
As if you haven’t allowed them the authorization to do as they pleased to your body. But you played according to their demand for your own pleasure.
Even when you find yourself in the most compromised position.
The morning had woken differently. Sun gleaming through the window, rays of golden shone on Wanda’s face that roused her—and where she met the sight of Natasha’s fingers lazily circling her clit, and your head resting on her thigh. You had settled on admiring the way Wanda’s body reacted to your lover’s teasing touch.
“Let’s play in the snow,” Wanda had proposed, with a glint her eyes that could either mean the worse or the best. “Malyshka, don’t you wanna play in the snow?” she diverted her attention solely to you, and you tentatively answered with a nod.
After that—you found yourself alone, and completely nude, abiding to the rule made. Except for your boots cladded feet. Nevertheless, your figure was hidden by prominent trees around, and absolute isolation. Disapproval that fell from your mouth on attempting something potential risky was persuaded by cold hand palming your heat, and the warning after.
“You’re not a naughty, are you?” Natasha spoke lowly, easily leaving your cunt drenched. “Santa doesn’t like naughty girls,” she whirred, half expecting for your rebuttal.
“But Christmas is over…” you uttered, and winced when your nipples was pinched. “Fuck,” you cursed, noticing the thread of red circling your breasts.
Wanda pressed her nude front against your back, and the feel of her perky breast had rendered you speechless. You could feel the heat emitting from her lower region as her hips bucks froward—till the interruption was made to carry forward with their plan.
It started with a playful game of snowball which led to hide and seek. You counted the numbers till fifty before searching for your lovers. It was the little act of innocence that overlooks the horrendous memories. And the clear indication that their thoughts were laced with things much explicit.
However, you were left alone with the thoughts of them. You had easily recognised it as Wanda’s new tricks of depicting them in the most compromising position. Those visuals pulses in your mind, while you tried—
It wasn’t wrong, you had justified. They roused the thrilling sensation that flushed your skin. It was them who drove such compelling images into your mind. They were to blame for the slick coating your thighs, and the shivers of your legs when wind blew.
They, fell from your mouth as incomplete excuses when patience narrowed and your hand provoked to satisfy the throbbing ache. Your helpless moans were muffled with your hand. You could hear the wetness from your cunt, as the image of them coax your perverted intentions. The fear of being caught, barely crossed your mind.
That, you failed to perceive the sound of broken twigs or the gasped upon seeing your shameless act of masturbating in your lonesome.
Natasha’s hold on Wanda’s hand tightens. They perceived the scene as expected. Assumptions were made between them, one for you to find them and discover their surprise while the other on your inability to stray away from your sinful thoughts.
Together, your lovers had crafted the best surprise for missed holidays. A little game embarked between three, and where hiding would further lead you to those surprises. Natasha had doubted you would do so, not after Wanda’s idea of planting such images into your mind.
Thus, Natasha doesn’t sympathise when she aggressively shoved you back against the tree’s trunk. The coarse texture scratches your bare skin and you cringed at the feeling, before realising the consequences of your action would hurt far more.
“This isn’t hide and seek,” Natasha’s voice edge with irritation, while Wanda stood behind with enthusiasm. “We had a very special surprise for you, but…” she trailed, and a devilish smirk graced her face.
It evoked something between fear and lust for your mistreatment—and you were drenched at the idea.
Natasha pushed your hand away from tiresome ministration, and spread your legs apart. “You’re so naughty, aren’t you?” she pestered. “Since you want everyone to see you like this, then let’s put on a show.”
The sight was shameless if viewed from an outsider—your body trembling from the cold and aching for her, despite her kneeling position, she was still in full control.
Natasha pressed her tongue flat against your puffy cunt that throbbed in response. She doesn’t wait for your familiarity to ease as her finger slide pass your folds and into your entrance. Wanda unreservedly watches her lover fucked you mercilessly, and she found her own pleasure amplified.
You breathed heavily, any attempt of gaining control or holding her shoulder was hindered by wisps of red. Whimpers fell from your mouth and they made a sound too, the hum of approval and pride.
It was great, they’d mutually agreed. To have you in their own way, without limitation or fearing the worse of life.
Though, the punishments were better.
“Please…” you begged, speech left hanging helplessly as a loud smack on your thigh made you shut your mouth.
“Natty says no,” Wanda beamed, waving her hand as red wisps twirls around your breast and you felt the instant stimulation.
Natasha continued her ministration with her fingers and her mouth, the taste of your juice filled her with utmost joy and pleasure. Your body limped against the tree’s trunk, indifferent of the course texture that would leave your skin with a rash.
And you accepted that—the utter control they had over your body, the heat woken in your stomach for them, the pulses of undying need by their name.
Besides, the next hour would prove the best of all little memories expand into one.
You would find yourself bring carried in Natasha’s sturdy arms, your hand would shamelessly trace the clear-cut muscles on her body. Wanda would cling herself on Natasha, her hand accidentally touching your sensitive parts and—
You would find their surprise. The gifts of missed days and gifs for coming days. Decorations that would brighten the timeworn attire of an old trailer. They would watch you happily engulf in a world of three, and love would bloom so beautifully.
What may occur in the coming days or months were feeble thoughts, that couldn’t ruin the embrace of lovers.

Since now we know miss heed is a trust fund kid I wonder if the golden rules would call her one since it's obvious her parents helped get her into the hero program
Villainous Theory: How Miss Heed Became a Superheroine
Made this theory in fanfic form on what happened in school and after Miss Heed got Flug's formula:
*spoilers for those who have not read Chapter 10 of The Risky Heist*
When Miss Heed was in school and was developing a crush on Flug, despite initially only wanting to be friends with him to steal his thesis to become popular, she saw GoldHeart in news, magazines, tv, ect* and also developed an obsession and a one-sided parasocial relationship (before meeting Flug), despite probably never seeing him in person, talking to him, or knowing who he truly is outside of his public persona.
*(as you can see in the images below, Miss Heed has a hero magazine with GoldHeart on the cover and is blushing while she stares mesmerized the sight of GoldHeart on the tv news)
(She of course meets him afterwards when she joins The Golden Rule, but probably still is blinded by his crush on him to notice his true personality and looks at him through her rose tinted glasses version of him, her name Cecilia literally means "blind" and Amanda means "worthy of love" which she believes she is worthy of, and/or probably notices the horrible things he's done but doesn't care because of her blinding crush and GoldHeart's popularity, and maybe tries to justify his actions are for the greater good.)
She is attracted to him because of his fame and popularity, which she believes will make her more popular through his clout if she can date him and seeing as she loves to hang out with tall and muscular guys like Omega and Coyote, after making them her simps, she is also probably attracted to him because of his physique.
Through her obsession with GoldHeart, she is also influenced to become a hero believing that it will make her become popular and beloved by everyone and at the same time believes being a popular and beloved hero will also make her fantasy of being in a relationship with her one-sided parisocial crush a reality.
(This is ironic because cultivates a parasocial relationship with people by making them her mindless simps who fantasize of wanting to be in a relationship with her and extorts their one-sided love, not caring if they become bankrupt by donating their possessions and life savings for her)
_______
Miss Heed genuinely believes she can become a popular hero using Flug's formula and her family's money and connections.
That's why after she stole Flug's thesis, her father, Mr. Kelly, got her an agent/manager, Anana Piña, to help her become a hero after he used his connections to make his daughter disappear from the school, fearing that BlackHat might come after her for becoming a hero.
Flug probably looked for Cecilia after her disappeare but found no traces of her and thought she died as "it is common to hear that students disappear inside the institute for various reasons, either because they went to some forbidden place, fell into a trap, got into a fight, or simply did not pass the exam of a very strict teacher." And was mourning her after thinking that he lost his friend.
Afterwards the agent helped her, using her father's money, to hire scientists create the formula based off Flug's thesis so that she can mind control people into loving her.
Once it was done, she demanded a factory in Cosmopolis to mass produce the formula so that she can get an unlimited supply of the formula to hypnotize as many people as she can to become the most beloved superheroine and become popular.
(Mr. Kelly probably also benefited from the fomula by getting those mind controlled people to support his business, work for him for free, and taking control of Cosmopolis through his daughter)
The formula creation and mass took around five years (refer to the timeline theory for more details) after Miss Heed left school and before she went to P.E.A.C.E. to get her powers. During that time Miss Heed probably sat back, relaxed and lazed around in her luxuries, while the scientists and her agent did all the work and probably complained and demanded why was it taking so long. (I kinda imagine it to be like the part in Chapter 10 when Miss Heed sat back and relaxed on her yatcht as Porccini and her agent did all the work while she only complained of not getting what she wants aka being able to post things online)
(During that 5 year period I believe that Flug and GoldHeart have met, became friends but became Arch-Enemies due to a feud and disagreement between the two.)
Afterwards her agent enrolled her in P.E.A.C.E., when she was 17 years old where she most likely demanded the power that is best suited for formula - the power to turn liquid into gas without changing the temperature. (refer to Miss Heed's P.EA.C.E. file below from nightfurmoon) That’s why she was extremely excited to start the process and after she got her powers insisted that her powers can be used to extrapolate Villains, despite valid questions from the scientists and doubts (probably mentioning to her that they think the power is useless, as shown in the second image below) being raised by the scientists about its heroic application.
Afterwards Miss Heed probably didn't get much support starting out as a hero from P.E.A.C.E. for having low ranking powers (her file as shown above labeled it as "low" and level 3.4) , but that doesn't matter as she has her mind controlling perfume, her dad's money and connections, who hired a personal agent and assistants to do all the work (such as getting her sponsors, get a costume designer to create her costume, booked all her events, public appearances and interviews)
Miss Heed then proceeds to use her formula on Villains everywhere, to make them become obsessed with her and do everything she says, hence reducing crime. Not only that the corrupt, popular obsessed hero also used the formula on other heroes and regular citizens to make them love her to feed her obsession and contribute to her rise in fame.
Her city Cosmopolis, was her main target. And after she effectively eradicated crime there and had the whole city under her control, her agent managed to get her an interview to join the Golden Rule, where GoldHeart was looking for someone with mind control powers or something that can be used to mind-control Villains in order to end Villainy forever.
Miss Heed was extremely estatic with news, believeing that this will make her fantasy of dating GoldHeart and becoming the most popular hero couple a reality. Believing completely that GoldHeart will definitely fall in love with her once he meets her in person and sees how gorgeous, charismatic, noble, talented, sensitive, fashionable of a superheroine she is...
----
GoldHeart didn't like Miss Heed at all...
He has first seen on social media about a heroine ripping off and wearing a cheap pink knock off of his costume. He concludes that must either be a clout chaser who lacks any orginality or creativity and/or an obsessed fangirl who wants to be his sidekick or worse …date him.
Because of this he wasn't too thrilled when P.E.A.C.E. recommended her for an interview when he was looking for a new member to can help with his plan to end Villainy.
GoldHeart definitely didn't want her to join his team and even less so when he met her face to face with her agent for the interview.
She had a crazed looked in her eyes (like how she looked at GoldHeart’s photo in episode 6) and her creepy obssessed fangirl behaviour is apparent as she asked him too many personal questions and tried making grabbing motions at him, only stopping when her agent told her to behave.
GoldHeart flat out told her he's not interested in her (making her scream in hysterical shock and outrage of GoldHeart’s rejection of her) and immediately moved onto the interview…
____
As the meeting went on he had suspicions that Heed might not be the brains behind the thesis, which she claimed she had come up with and created, as she, gave generic answers, looks confused and unsure how to reply when he asked her difficult questions and alot of times her agent has to step in answer for her.
And theorises that she basically took credit from a scientist working for her or something.
GoldHeart really didn't care if she is ripping someone of just like she did when copying his uniform and style. He sees how effective the formula is in eradicating crime in her city. However her cringy and creepy obsessive behaviour towards him is extremely off putting and is really making him not want to put her in her club and instead call security to get her far away from him as possible.
GoldHeart sighed, eventhough he really dosent want to, beggers can't be choosers and sacrifices needed to be made for the fight against Villainy. But he will definitely avoid interacting with her as much as necessary.
So he agrees to let her join his superhero club only if she can develop, modify the formula to his specifications and plan to end Villainy forever, such as making the effects permanent.
Miss Heed was extremely nervous at not being able to complete the condition as she had no idea how to improve the formula.
The scientists her father hired which she later mind controlled, also adding new ones to her group, could not figure out how to improve or develop the formula beyond the incomplete thesis Flug provided years ago.
However, she agreed to the condition so she can get into the Golden Rule to become more popular and delsionally believe that this will make GoldHeart love her.
____
Afterwards Miss Heed layers meet up with the Golden Rule's to discuss and negotiate her contract. And her assistants schedule a date for her inaguration to the club. Leading to the painful image of Flug seeing her friend (who apparently was still alive) joining his Arch Nemesis’s side.
As we can see in this photo Flug is still wearing his uniform, meaning that Miss Heed joined the Golden Rule while Flug was still in school at I believe when they were both 18 years old. Hence I believe the timeline for Miss Heed zombifying her entire city with her perfume after she got her powers at 17 years old and joining The Golden Rule is one year. (again refer to the timeline theory for more details)
____
Years later, all new Villain scientists she mind controlled proved to be utterly useless in improving her formula.
And GoldHeart is extremely angry at her for consistently pushing the deadline behind and making little to no progress at the formula he wanted.
(GoldHeart also suspected these massive delays and set backs was because the person she ripped off the formula from might not be at her disposal anymore and this infuriates him)
As a result, GoldHeart has already taken all the perks and benefits she had of being a Golden Rule Member, not inviting her to any of their group events, and worst of all not even allowing her to talk about in detail being in the club in her social media accounts.
Until all that is left is meesely title saying that she is "The Official Member of the Golden Rule of GoldHeart"
Leading her to only on her millionare family fortune, sponsors her agent found, like Freez-O, and mind controlled followers who have donated their life savings and sold their furniture to give her gifts and money.
Worst still GoldHeart appears to hate her more than he first met her because of the delays*, she is furthur off than she was in making GoldHeart love her, and she fears he might one day snap and just kick her out of his superhero club and never talk or interact with her again!
*(and also because Miss Heed's creepy advances)
No! She can't let this happen! She can still save this! All she needed to do is… just find Flug!
Yes, that's it! She’s a genius! He created the thesis so surely he knows how to make the perfect formula for her.
So she just has to spray him with her perfume, make him love her, and use him to make the perfect formula GoldHeart wanted...
However, this also proved to be extremely difficult as Flug has a reputation if being extremely difficult to find ever since he joined Black Hat Organization. (she mentions it was extremely difficult to find him)
She's seen him in public the news fighting heroes but can't send her simps after him as he is instantly gone after the job is done and she obviously can't go to Hat Manor to get him, knowing its instant death because BlackHat is there.
Maybe get someone to lure him to her and fast…. Her fame and popularity are literally on the line for this.

Heroes & Villains The DC Animated Universe - Paper Cut-Out Portraits and Profiles
The New Gods
Eons ago, a great planet was split asunder when the old gods died in their final battle against one another. The molten remains of this world eventually formed two new planets. These new worlds were New Genesis, where the kindly Highfather ruled over a golden society of New Gods, and Apokolips, where the dread lord Darkseid ruled with an iron fist, psychically feeding off the despair of his subjects.
The two worlds waged war with each other, a war that lasted hundreds of years with no end in sight. As such, Highfather and Darkseid brokered a peace accord, a pact on nonaggression. The two rulers exchanged their infant sons to one another as a means of sealing this pact and an uneasy truce was established.
Yet Darkseid, while leaving New Genesis alone, went on to subjugate countless other worlds in his unending quest to discover the ‘Anti-Life Equation,’ a source of unlimited power that would enable him to dominate the entire universe. Aware of Darkseid’s treacherous schemes, Highfather sent his own forces to defend those worlds targeted by Apokolips.
Eventually, Darkseid set his evil sights on the planet Earth. The world was primitive by the standards of Apokolips, yet possessed great heroes whom Darkseid gravely underestimated. Superman was able to repel the villain's initial attempts to subjugate Earth and soon New Genesis declared the planet to be under its protection; that any further hostilities would constitute a breach in their pact. Darkseid capitulated and withdrew his forces, yet secretly continued to plot a means of either conquering or destroying the Earth.
Darkseid’s obsession with the Earth proved his undoing. The combined might of the Justice League and New Genesis defeated him and the ruler of Apokolips was killed. Darkseid was later resurrected and one more invaded Earth. His forces were defeated once again. Guided by Metron, Lex Luthor acquired the Anti-Life Equation and offered it to Darkseid. The villain greedily accepted, not realizing that taking this power would result in his essence becoming trapped within the great Source Wall for all of eternity.
The New Gods were created by Jack Kirby

Doctor Doom - The Loveable Autocrat
Fantastic Four #247 is quite an issue. It impressed me so much, I decided to dedicate a whole post to a single issue. If you’ve been around for a while, you know I almost never do that. There’s usually not enough to say about just one single. And yet, this one forced me to reflect on real-world history and very controversial ideas presented in the book.
What’s Up
In this issue, the Fantastic Four are forced to help Doom reclaim his place as the monarch of Latveria. Since he was defeated by, well, also the Fantastic Four, his rightful (according to him, obviously) place has been taken by Zorba. Doom can’t think of anything better than taking FF on a tour of the new and improved Latveria in order to show them how much worse life without Doom actually is.
Now right off the bat, I have plenty of issues with this whole premise. First of all, Doom is a dictator. A nasty, unapologetically evil dictator, whose country is messed up no matter which way you look. We know that from the issues #84-87 in which the FF with Crystal on their team, end up traveling to Latveria to witness the beauty of Doom state. It’s not a pretty picture either: it looks like the land of the free, dressing like it’s the 1910s instead of 1960s, and fachwerk.
It’s impossible to hide the fact that the people are brainwashed and afraid of their own shadows.
You are free to call me out on imagining too much, but we all know exactly how these states function.
The Background
In Latveria, the people are forced to love and praise Doom. As long as they keep their head low, do their job, don’t ask for anything, and don’t cross Doom directly- they can live a normal life. This illusion of normalcy comes from everyone knowing their place and the rules to follow. And on paper, it even sounds like a textbook Utopia. It's anything but.
In one issue, for instance, Doom is exercising a favored trick among his peers: a peasant bumps into him, and Doom pretends to forgive him.
But we as readers aren't that easily fooled. He's obviously terrified because he knows the rules, and the main one is to love and obey the "leader". Already sounds culty if you ask me. But what this does in terms of narrative is it establishes the condition of Doomism — his state is built on fear, not on respect.
When the FF approach the border, they are immediately informed that neither side (neither the soviet bloc nor the democratic countries) can protect their people within Latverian borders. Latveria does not recognize any international agreements or laws which means absolute, unlimited, uncontrolled power in one set of metal hands. If you underestimate the severity of it, imagine that your absolute authority on all matters including basic freedoms is one man who may or may not be insane.
Like any self-respecting dictator, Doom has a private guard. The one that shoots people if they try to escape his land (which hey, is one of the basic freedoms, shocking.) Doom is clever enough to know what he’s doing, and not nearly naive enough to imagine that if he had allowed his people to move about freely, they would move outside the border and never come back. You can trust me on that.
When Doom is once again consumed by his desire to destroy the accursed Fantastic Four, he doesn’t think twice about sacrificing a whole village of his “beloved subjects”. And even before that, when his private bot guard gets out of hand, he even informs the populace that anyone who dies would be considered a hero. Sounds vaguely familiar, doesn’t it? If it doesn’t, consider yourself lucky. But keep in mind that the whole situation is solely Doom’s fault. And he handles it in the worst possible way with little regard for his people.
None of this screams “a leader who truly cares.”
After reading this issue I figured it would've been better and made Doom more sympathetic if his subjects were actually happy. He could've been established as a just and respected leader, especially considering how his predecessor mistreated the people.
Even with all that, It's hard to imagine such a scenario since power corrupts indiscriminately. Sure, that could've given a complex twist to his character as well as added conflict to the decision the FF ultimately had to make. It could have been a commentary on cultural and historical differences since:
a: monarchies are not that rare in Europe.
b: Latveria was surrounded by communist states, so it had enough struggles as is.
That, of course, didn't happen and we got a plain and simple dictator, who follows every other page from the dictators' handbook. A very black-and-white view that was not uncommon for comic books in the '60s and the '70s.
Changing Spots
In issue #247, John Byrne takes it upon himself to retcon the essence of Doom. This makes sense, the ‘80s have elevated comic book narratives and gave depth to many characters.
Doom was not an exception. With the FF walking the streets of Doomstadt, we see the devastation that his successor brings to the land. And to top it off, we hear the tragic story of the last few months since Doom has been ousted.
Zorba Fortunov is the heir apparent to the Latverian throne. His father and brother were both murdered by Doom but you shouldn’t feel too bad because they were terrible people and even worse rulers. So is Doom, but we know Doom and we don’t know those guys.
Doom also tortured Zorba (because, and I don’t want there to be any confusion, torturing your political opponents is exactly what Dooms do.)
Now initially Zorba was portrayed as a member of the resistance who was looking to restore democracy in Latveria. Well, restore would be a loud word. Long story short, with the help of American superheroes (who shamelessly collaborate with the government) Zorba comes to power.
But democracy is apparently too hard to handle for the state. Because turns out (according to Doom and his loyalists), the repressive laws were actually for the good of the people. They were too afraid to commit crimes. For some reason, they also immediately stopped working which may or may not indicate forced labor. And the ‘prosperous nation of Latveria’ fell into complete disarray. That’s confirmed by a few destroyed streets and fearful citizens but other than that, there is only Doom’s word to prove that.
This is a great time to note that any major economic transformations are risky and may result in poverty and a rise in crime. Especially in a society that’s not prepared to said changes in stages. We have actually seen that with post-soviet states.
Either way, Zorba revoked Doom’s cruel laws and punishments (from what we have seen so far, they include murder if “the master” is in a bad mood and you are in his proximity). People were promised an election (which it seems like Zorba really planned to have.) But some happy and liberated citizens of Latveria chose violence and it became so bad, Zorba declared martial law. Which naturally gave him all the power… that he was supposed to already have as an absolute monarch. But who cares?
Zorba reprogrammed Doom’s personal guard to police the streets and they are referred to as ruthless (as opposed to Doom’s tender and caring ones?)
So slowly, learning this story, the Fantastic Four figure that the devil they know is actually pretty good compared to the devil they helped install. Despite there being little difference except the fact that Doom was planning to rule till the day he dies (and possibly after).
And then we see that he cares so much, his main priority is restoring Latveria to its former glory.
But… why?
Of course, my main question is the idea behind this whole narrative. Are we supposed to believe that a shaky democratic state is much worse than the iron rule of one leader with order? Or is it something very specific to the people of Latveria? If Doom is so great, why does the Fantastic Four fight him relentlessly when he tries to take over the world? And why do they feel entitled to repeatedly make decisions and instigate conflict on behalf of the people of the country?
I don’t have the answer, I see the story and the attempt to rewrite Doom’s history into something that can justify keeping him around. But if he’s a dictator, if he’s a tyrant, we probably shouldn’t romanticize him that much. Because once again, I want to look at the Latverians here - we rarely really do. They went with a democratic choice, with a possibility of change. And there must have been reasons for that, I mean they were NOT happy. In one of the issues, Doom murders the Ambassador of his own country (ok it was a doombot but if you ask me, same difference). So how exactly does that align with the just leader narrative?
If the idea was to not interfere and let things flow naturally as they are supposed to, why does the FF help reinstall Doom?
Let’s be honest, Zorba doesn’t care much for the people. He proves it in that same arc. But neither does Doom, that’s no secret. And neither do Reed, Sue, Johnny, or Ben. Everyone is this story has their own interests and not one of them is the prosperity of the country.
They might be able to rewrite Doom and turn him into a good leader, I wouldn’t be surprised because I’ve seen heroes shake hands with him later on. But it still will always feel like a hypocritical joke.
The suggestion that Doom might be better for the country is one I have a hard time with, on so many levels. We can’t trust the collective amnesia of the populace, caused by the trauma of drastic changes.
At the end of the day, either option is bad for Latveria. Doom is vengeful and bloodthirsty and so is Zorba. Both occasionally had good intentions. In both cases, they didn't matter. Zorba was the rightful monarch, while Doom was an usurper yet both revolutions happened with the participation of the FF. And it doesn't seem like free Latveria is this team's priority.

I don't anon but awhile back (12 hours ago time stamp on my screen) you asked for curious anons.
Your love of and advocacy for Rolemaster is well known.
You likely don't mind games with lots of rules.
So, I'm curious: Do you have any experience with any of the Palladium Megaverse system games like Rifts, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Other Strangeness, Robotech, Ninjas & Superspies, Heroes Unlimited... ?
That whole branch of gaming has sadly eluded me! I know of their reputation but have yet to actually sit down and read any of them. Purely based on their reputation I can actually see a lot of that weird eighties design I love in RPGs, so like I would probably find at least something to vibe with in there!
Now I have sort of interacted with those games via one degree of separation, since Mutants in the Now (cool game) is explicitly inspired by the author's first experience in RPGs being Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Other Strangeness, and while it of course seeks to modernize and clean up a lot of the Megaverse system's quirks, it maintains some of its idiosyncracies (like, as far as I've understood, combat and skills effectively running on two different systems?). Anyway, Mutants in the Now is great and I would actually love to see similar treatments of old obtuse RPGs with some modern sensibilities to make their rules presentation a bit easier to understand.
Anyway, one of these days I'll actually sit down and read Heroes Unlimited. Actually, there's a game that would undoubtedly benefit from the Mutants in the Now treatment, seeing as that one's also heavily about table-based character creation.

Dungeon Meshi Volume 13 Part 1
Welcome back! Things are about to reach a breaking point! You know things are crazy when all six chapters of the volume have the same name.
Volume 13's cover is literally just the gang running away from a spoiler, so please accept these cute pictures of baby Marcille from the daydream hours.
A precious image.
Wishes, man. There's always a catch. Whether that be an evil genie, or a perfect unconscious wish, it never goes how you want. This one doesn't even let you say no thanks.
This is such a good fake-out. Now someone grab some zip-ties.
So, is Marcille going to struggle with impulse control for the rest of her life, or did it just eat her desire not to lead an army to the surface?
Sure you will buddy. *proceeds to, in fact, not be careful*
Oh god, if he defeats the demon, we'll be out of a job.
This is cool and all, but what happens to this avatar after the gang goes inside? Does it turn back into monsters? Does it simply vanish? It's totally gone next time we see outside.
There was probably a more literal translation for that onomatopoeia, but damn if that isn't perfect. I also like the detail that Mithrun lost his fake eye.
Happy 8/8 everyone.
Going a little out of order here, since Chapter 87 and Misc tales 13 go together. So, everything seems to indicate that the Demon and magic itself are one and the same. But where do spirits fit into all of this? Are spirits, like, sub-sentient demon bits? Are they micro-organisms that can use magic? Everything in this page sure sounds like gnomish magic to me.
Genuinely curious how the anime will handle these panels.
How? No, seriously, how did the ancients trap the demon? The demon is an entity of unlimited power. Why is it contrained to rules? We know it likes fulfilling desires, but what's stopping it from acting on its own? Why did it need to swap with Laios just to use its power for itself? It's never really explained how the demon came to be constrained. I understand the demon's current rules, but I don't know how we reached this point.
So much world-building in one panel. I don't really get how the demon managed such massive, world sweeping changes though.
The demon is exceptionally awful. It is manipulative, selfish, cruel, and it ultimately takes everything that matters away. But it didn't become that way because of its intrinsic nature. It learned to be evil by watching us.
Seriously, the exit is right there. What is keeping the demon bound to these dungeons?
Yeah, maybe should have figured that out before going right into the lion's den. (haha)
No, see, that's the beauty of Laios' plan. By focusing so hard on plan A, the lion will be completely blindsided by plan B.
I'm sure Falin would think it's cute.
She does her best not to show it... but this is a big moment for Izutsumi. No one has ever trusted her. No one has ever implicitly trusted her with something important like this. And the craziest part? She's actually going to do it. Laios is right to trust her.
One interesting takeaway from this story is the lesson that people are, by their very nature, selfish beings. Yet, we push through, and do the right thing anyway. I'm sure someone smarter than me could articulate it better. Something something, Laios' curse.
I have some thoughts on this panel. Check out my post where I go into it in detail!
I know this is a serious moment, but Laios just looks like a creepy chicken.
Laios failed the vibe check. He looked WAY too cool and professional as he chopped off the lion's head.
Laios doesn't have an evil bone in his body, yet we're getting a Laios villain arc anyway!
Oh no! What are our heroes going to do! Find out next post!

What is Fate/Stay Night?
Fate/Stay Night is a visual novel that came out in 2004. It features three routes: Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, and Heaven's Feel. It is also the first installment of the Fate serie.
If you are familiar with that serie (and if you follow me I think I can safely bet you do,) it's the one game all the other games keep referencing.
If you are not familiar with that serie, it's the game this blonde anime chick you can see everywhere since 2005 is from.
Oooh nifty. What's it about?
The story follows SHIROU EMIYA, a perfectly ordinary teenager with small magic abilities, as he gets dragged in a mage battle royale where the winner gets to fulfill one of their wish. During that battle royale, mages are aided by Heroic Spirits, aka historical and/or mythological figures as summons to fight. As you can imagine, the question of what makes a hero? is a major one in the story, along with What makes a villain? What makes a victim? How does one uphold their ideals?
Cool. Should I play it?
Well that depends on what you're looking for in a story, but if you enjoy strong thematic writing, balls to the wall concepts, and commitment to any worldbuilding implications (be they really silly or deeply horrifying) then yeah you should def go for it! Also, as a visual novel, it is extremely well-made and it fucks with the medium in ways I have rarely seen before.
I'm already familiar with other Fate games and I know the tl;dr of the plot. Do I really need to play it?
Yeah you should!! As I said in the intro, every Fate entry out there references fsn in some way, be in directly by making references to plot elements, or indirectly by echoing and building on its themes. Trust me no amount of knowing what would happen could have prepared me from actually reading it.
Isn't it a porn game?
The original is an eroge, yes, so it did contain sex scenes. The remake, Fate/Stay Night: Realta Nua, replaced the sex scenes with sfw ones. I can give you my personal opinion on which version of these scenes is best if you need me but really it's up to you as to which one you'd rather read.
I tried playing the game a while back but I thought the protag was a cunt.
Yeah I getcha the first route is a bit clumsy by today's standards and it's easy to read the protagonist as a bitchy chauvinist at first. Still he gets better (and in fact never acts even remotely like that in the other routes) so I would ask you to grind your teeth and keep going.
"The first route"? Is there an order to the routes?
There is! In the original game you had to go Fate route -> UBW route -> HF route. Iirc you can play them in any order in the remake, but I strongly advise you to play these routes in this order regardless, because they were very much built with the assumption that this is the way you'd experience things. (A very basic exemple is that the Fate route has a lot more explanations on the worldbuilding and the rules of the battle royales, while the other routes assume you already know this shit and ellipses it up.)
Ohhh. Ok I'm kinda interested. Where can I play it?
Well funny story! This game is like, the ONE fate game that never got any official release in the West whatsoever! So you're gonna have to go with fantranslations. You can play the sfw remake over here, or you can download the og eroge over there.
I'm gonna be real with you bestie I am not committing to a 70 hours-long vn when I don't even know if I'll like it.
Understandable! Perhaps you'd be interested in the anime adaptation of one of the routes then? I'm told the Unlimited Blade Works anime is a good introduction to the Fate serie, its vibes, and therefore whether it might be your thing or not. That being said disclaimer that I have not watched it (<- not an anime watcher) so I can't personally back it up.
Hey why are there like twenty versions of that blonde anime chick
That would require me to make a separate 2k long post king.
Anyways.

Supreme Identity theory
Wang Fu if he used the Miraculous to win WW2.
We know from Origins that Fu had tried to entrust Miraculous to holders before when he told Wayz he “only got it wrong once”. We also know from Backwarder and from the first ep of S5 that he was in France during the Nazi occupation, and that he was running from Nazi’s who had somehow discovered the Miracle Box and the powers it contained. We know this because we hear soldiers shouting to retrieve the box.
Now, we know from the episode Feast that the temple was destroyed and he lost the Grimoire, the Butterfly, and the Peacock because he was too young and frightened to think to simply end the sentimonster’s existence with the power of the Peacock.
Imagine this, what if, in Hesparia/Betterfly’s universe, Master Fu’s resentment of the Order of the Miraculous that took him away from his family was far stronger? Imagine if that Wang Fu had created a Sentimonster to destroy the Temple ON PURPOSE, but was able to use the Peacock to destroy the Sentimonster after, and as a result, he kept all the miraculous and the Grimoire.
But he would not be able to return home after essentially becoming a murderer, especially when his family had emphasized what an honor joining the Temple was.
But now he is still an angry teen, with a magic box of unlimited potential, and, having grown up poor, certainly now he can change that… And he has a spellbook that can help him.
Keep in mind that the Temple is in Tibet, which is a part of CHINA, which was originally Imperialist, then Nationalist before becoming communist sometime around the 1950’s.
Now, the ONLY reason Germany and Japan surrendered in WW2 is because they were scared of the Soviets. China was an ally at the time because they hated Japan, and Germany, but they have also always hated Russia. The atomic bomb was a waste of time because Japan did not care; they were willing to keep fighting the allied forces even if the Americans nuked them off the map. They only surrendered to us because Russia advanced on them and they knew the USA would be more merciful.
THIS is why after WW2 we delved into a cold war with the Soviet Union, because even though technically the Soviets won the war against Nazis and Japan, the Atomic threat of the US was nothing to sneeze at, at least until they could develop nuclear weapons of their own to be an equal threat.
REMEMBER that Marianne wanted Fu to use the Miraculous to fight the Nazi’s during the occupation of France, but he refused.
WHAT IF HE HADN’T? What if Fu used the powers of the Miraculous to fight in WW2? He could’ve created a magical army of super-soldiers that could’ve beaten back germany AND japan because the Manhatten Project even became a daydream, and would’ve made the Soviet’s wet their pants.
Of course, by this time, he would’ve had enough time with the Grimoire to uncover it’s secrets, and found ways to exert control over the kwamis and their miraculous even if they were lent out to holders.
As the owner of the magic jewels that brought an end to the second world war, he would become a VERY powerful man. And, based on the values of his homeland, he might even wish to re-shape the world in a more Centralist fashion, appointing himself as the Supreme Leader.
This world would frown on mutual aid. And, as many comics have suggested, (both Marvel and DC) without the creation of the Atom bomb and the effects of nuclear radiation mutating DNA, things like superpowers would not exist (at least not without Magic or extra-terrestrial beings like Majestia). This would mean you can forget about the Untied Heroes of America. And the world would be ruled by one leader, who could grant power to those he saw fit.
We know that in the parallel world of the Paris Special, Gabriel is different because he chooses to move on rather than become obsessed with Emelie. We know that Sabine is NOT a calm and supportive mother her daughter can rely on and find comfort in… which also means no Socquliene (is that how you spell it?) was asked to watch over Marinette, and that is probably why no one else dared to try and talk to Marinette either (let’s face it, before Alya, the other girls were never really Marinette’s friends. None of them were willing to stand up for her or defend her, and not a single one of them even knew she liked Videogames until the Gamer episode, despite having known her for years). We also know that Adrien became obsessed with his grief over his mother’s death and had no interest in making friends.
Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that in that Universe, Wang Fu was not interested in upholding the values of only using the Miraculous for the greater good, but instead decided to use them for his own personal gain.
That would also explain why Adrien and Marinette are the ones who get the ring and earrings. Wang Fu chose them, albeit for different reasons.
This also means he knows who they are; He gave them their miraculous for the purpose of causing havoc, probably because he sensed that they would be tempted to use the miraculous for revenge or to vent out their frustrations, which would draw out the man who stole the Butterfly and the Peacock. And by not warning them of the consequences, he ensured a sort of dependence on him- if they want to live, they NEED the Supreme to fix the damage the Miraculous has caused their bodies, and to do that, they need to Hunt down Hesparia/Betterfly.
The fact that Tikki and Plagg were muzzled suggests the kwamis have tried to rebel/escape before, and the fact that Gimmi was blocked means the Supreme has already anticipated the possibility of being betrayed by holders of the miraculous… It shows he is prepared and has thought ahead.
Meaning he KNOWS who Marinette and Adrien are, where they live, go to school, etc. Also, since the Supreme rules the world and knows/controls all the post powerful people, it would not be difficult to retrieve the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculous from the foolish teens who dared to defy him by joining his enemy.
We can conclude that the Supreme does NOT know that Gabriel is the one who stole from him because Adrien Agreste is STILL a famous model and his father is STILL busy creating clothes.
The Supreme rules the world, so obviously if he knew it was Gabriel, then he wouldn’t need to hunt him down, and wouldn’t allow his son to enjoy a comfortable life of being rich and famous, nor would he entrust a Miraculous to the son of the man who stole from him… Just as the Wang Fu from the main universe would not intentionally put the black cat miraculous under the same roof as Hawkmoth. Rather, since we saw how easily he was able to break in to drop off the miraculous in Origins, and how easily he snuck in to take them back in Feast, we can conclude that if Wang Fu had known, he would have just Ninja’d Nooru and Doosu back instead of trusting two kids with the most powerful jewels in the world.
Wang Fu being the Supreme also explains why their is no Natalie by good Gabriel’s side; she was an artifact hunter, a female Indiana Jones. But if Wang Fu never lost anything, there would be nothing for Nathalie to find, thus no reason to hire her.
This could also imply that Felix does not exist in that Universe, since we know Felix is younger. Colt Fathom was obviously a powerful and spiteful individual, so even if Gabriel could not bear to let someone else come to harm from using the Peacock, it is also safe to bet that he could not risk telling Colt his secret because Colt could in turn betray Gabriel to the Supreme. This leaves Kagami’s existence up in the air, since we do not know when she was created, but if she is younger than Adrien it stands to reason that she does not exist because again, Gabriel would not wish to risk anyone else suffering Emelie’s fate, and sharing the secret could lead to not only his destruction, but the destruction of Adrien, who has obviously been kept in the dark about everything for his own protection because knowing you aren’t human is already traumatizing… Knowing you are the cause of your mother’s death is almost guaranteed to make you seek out an express ticket to the afterlife.
MY QUESTIONS:
How are the newly reformed Ladybug and Paw Noir supposed to fight against the Supreme? They are 14 years old. They can’t go home or return to school because the Supreme knows their identities and would come after them where they live, and obviously threaten their families snd use their influence to forcibly take the Miraculous back. So by agreeing to join Betterfly’s resistance, they have become homeless fugitives.
How do they not already know Gabriel Agreste is Betterfly? This question applies to the episode Cat Blanc as well; they tracked him down to his butterfly lair, which is located underneath the Agreste Mansion. Can you imagine Spiderman finding the Green Goblin’s secret base in Normon Osborn’s basement and going “Gee, I wonder who the Green Goblin really is under his mask? My buddy Norman sure will be surprised to find out a Supervillain has been living in his house this whole time!”
The Design of Betterfly’s secret hideout is identical to Hawkmoth/Shadowmoth/Monarch’s lair. Even has the same butterfly window.
So Cat Noir being shocked that his dad was Hawkmoth, even after discovering his lair under his house, and Claw Noir complaining about his dad being busy designing clothes, despite having discovered the butterfly man living under his house, is really difficult to accept coming from a kid that excels at particle physics and seems to have an eidetic memory concerning history facts and speaks several languages fluently.

best cdramas I’ve watched since the last one of these posts in 2022 (and some I’m still looking forward to seeing)
Heroes (watch on WeTV VIP | watch on bilibili) Adapted from the novel "Shuo Ying Xiong Shei Shi Ying Xiong" (说英雄谁是英雄) by Wen Rui An (温瑞安) starring Zeng ShunXi, Yang ChaoYue, Liu YuNing, Baron Chen and Meng ZiYi. I would’ve watched this thing for the cast only. Everyone is queer vibes. Not a flashy drama, but will emotionally shred you. The character development is totally worth it. Throughly entertaining, even when it punched you in the gut. 8/10
The Wind Blows From LongXi (watch on iQIYI VIP | watch on Viki) Adapted from novel "The Wind Rises in Longxi" (风起陇西) by Ma Bo Yong (马伯庸) starring Chen Kun and Bai Yu. I’ve been waiting for this drama for two years and it was worth every second of the wait. The cinematography in this thing is bonkers. The use of light and shadows, the muted colors, the indoor shots opening up into well-lit courtyards, the gritty sound mixing, the whole thing just blew my ass away. Chen Kun and Bai Yu are masters of their art. Fckn masterpiece. 11/10
Who Rules The World (watch on WeTV VIP | watch on Netflix) Adapted from the novel "Qie Shi Tian Xia" (且试天下) by Qing Ling Yue (倾泠月) starring Yang Yang, Zhao LuSi, and Xuan Lu. One of the rare romance dramas that really appealed to me. A well-balanced mix of court intrigue and martial world heroics. Unlimited blorbo potential. It’s hard to outshine Yang Yang (who gives major Mei Changsu vibes through like the first third of the drama) but Zhao LuSi and Xuan Lu together? Magnificent. Breathtaking. Brilliant. 8/10
The Legend of Hao Lan (watch on iQIYI VIP | watch on Viki | watch on tubi) starring Wu Jinyan and Nie Yuan. So this was like, The Story of Yanxi Palace cast, remixed. Was it great? Not really. Did I watch every episode? Yeah. I honestly think that Wu Jinyan could just make faces for 50+ sixty minute episodes, and I’d still watch every minute of it. Still, a fascinating take on the Warring States Period, and actually based on a woman who helped her son become the King of Qin, then ultimately the First Emperor of China. I think 99% of the budget went to costumes, and tbh, it was totally worth every penny. 7/10
(yeah, after all this, I rewatched Nirvana In Fire again)
The Silent Criminal (watch on Apple TV | watch on Bilibili | watch on iQIYI VIP | watch on Viki) starring Li Jiaming and Wen Sheng. So incredibly gay. Hilarious, yes, but predominantly gay. Murder, intrigue, suspense, pining; this little drama literally has everything. Did it impact my life and leave a long-lasting impression? Not really. But I was most throughly entertained. 7/10
My Heroic Husband (watch on Amazon Prime | watch on iQIYI VIP | watch on Viki) Adapted from the novel "Zhui Xu" (赘婿) by Fen Nu de Xiang Jiao (愤怒的香蕉). Starring Song Yi and Guo Qilin. Actually, the majority of Joy of Life cast is in this drama, including a cameo by Zhang Ruoyun in the very beginning. Cast aside tho, I fckn love this drama to pieces. Song Yi and Guo Qilin have amazing chemistry, and they’re so goddamn adorable together I can’t even stand it. The plot is far from complex but immensely satisfying. Excellent drama on a mediocre budget, one I plan to regularly rewatch. 8/10
Still waiting on:
Immortality - based on danmei novel The Husky and His White Cat Shizun by 肉包不吃肉 starring Chen Feiyu and Luo Yunxi (you can think I’m a clown but you’d be wrong bc I’m a wholeass circus)
Winner Is King - based on the danmei novel Sha Po Lang by Priest starring Tan Jianci and Chen Zheyuan
Step By Step Lotus - based on historical novel Return to Ming Dynasty as Prince by 月关 starring Zhang Binbin and Luo Yunxi
Eternal Faith - based on danmei novel Heaven Official’s Blessing by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu starring Zhai Xiaowen and Zhang Linghe
Joy Of Life Season 2 - based on wuxia novel of the same name by 猫腻 starring Zhang Ruoyun and Li Qin
A League of Nobleman - based on danmei novel The Society of Four Leaves by Da Feng Gua Guo starring Song Weilong and Jing Boran
Flying Phoenix - based on danmei novel of the same name by 風弄 starring Dai Jingyao and Shu Yaxin
