One of the fun things I like to do with my characters is make BIO-MOCS of them. Here's Sylvia "Zebedia" Mawwed when she's all grown up. (It's an old version that lacks the battle dress, but still similar enough to the current one.)

Okay, might as well start posting some Heroes of Ryperna content here, so Imma reblog this with the "first draft" prologue and the following five chapters so I can go back to worldbuilding with occasional insights from dreams.

Trying to figure out where a chapter is going just from the first sentence that I wrote before going on a year-plus-long hiatus is my personal writing hell.

A commission done by WhatTheFlup of Trevor Gaius Mawwed as an adult with the city of Pueblosa in the background. (The windows are muscovite.)
This website is too mobile focused these days. Reblog and tell me what your desktop/laptop background is.

This is actually really overpowered, because everything we're perceiving has already happened. Imma go stargazing...why is it so bright out?
You and your brothers were gifted powers related to time. Your elder brother can see the future and your younger brother can see the past. You can see the ‘present’.

Hmmm... *scribbles in notebook* Another difference between Mancers and some Wielders, perhaps? It's not like Prime Wielders have any mentors in their Wielding; they pass on to feraldom when the new Primes are conceived...
i love pitting classically trained magic users against self-taught magic users in sci-fi/fantasy but it shouldn’t be snobbish disdain for them it should be terror

TIL Trevor Gaius Mawwed explaining the entire history of the world at three is accurate.
It becomes very very evident when an author has never interacted with small children before. PLEASE stop writing 4 year olds with baby voices, I promise you they do not answer in short sentences the way a baby might. They can and Will start monologing

Tmw I hybridize my spacetime-wielding ringtail OC with a spider because they weave a web and spacetime is a fabric only to find out literally just now that I may have made something appealing to an international audience purely by accident.
The Spider (павук) in Ukraine and in Belarus, or Straw Garden (šiaudų sodus) in Lithuania is an ancient pagan traditional decoration for the Christmas and other holidays, made of straw. Such "spiders" are considered talismans and symbols of the universe.
This decoration reflects pagan ideas about the creation of the world, the organization of space: a "spider" that "sweeps" the world - an image of the cosmos-universe.
According to Christian legend, the spider "founded" the entrance to the cave (according to another version around a tree), in which the Mother of God and the Child hid from Herod's soldiers, thus saving the Holy Family.
Spiders were hung in the house in the centre on a long hair from a horse's tail. Thanks to the circulation of air - through the front door and from the burning stove - the big "spider" together turned in different directions, casting whimsical shadows.
The Spider or Garden used to hang over the bed of the newlyweds on the first night because it was believed to have an influence on the growth of the family. When expecting a baby, the mother would tie a straw garden specially for the child and then hang it above the cradle, and the neighbors would bring a bird, angel, racket or small garden tied from straw, which they also used to make the little one happy. The baby used to observe these straw pendants, a mini model of the universe.
During the year, the spider "protected" the owners of the house, and all misfortunes and diseases were "entangled" in its web. Since ancient times, people valued fire as a sign of purification, so a spider that "lasted" for a whole year was necessarily burned before Christmas, and a new one was hung in its place.
In Ukraine, the Spider is nowadays called the Christmas Spider and is especially popular in the north. In Latvia, it has several names: puzurs, ķists, saulīte, lukturi, krīģi, spurguļi. In Lithuania, it has even more names: liktorius (Varėnos, Panevėžio r.); voras (Ukmergės r.); vorys arba pajonkas (Suvalkai, lenk. pająk – voras); pajokas (Kaišiadorys); žarondeliai (Ignalinos r.); reketukas (Kupiškio apylinkėse); rekėžis (Kupiškio apylinkėse); krijelis (Kupiškio apylinkėse); širšuonas (Kupiškio apylinkėse); dangus (Kupiškio apylinkėse); rojus (Kupiškio apylinkėse); karulys (Mažojoje Lietuvoje).

Trevor Gaius Mawwed would like to meet Jesus.
Sylvia Zebedia Mawwed (his adoptive "sister") would like to meet Nikola Tesla.
Hannah Ekima Botana would love to meet Genghis Khan or Napoleon. (That's concerning. O_O)
Anna Annona Mawwed (look, adoption is a thing in Wielder families for spoilery reasons) would like to meet Sigmund Freud. She wants to trade notes and have some words about the Oedipus Complex.
I'm not even going to say who Umbrina wants to meet. No, just no. What the literal Hell, Umbrina.
...this is getting a bit long, and I need to make a reference place for my OC's. Any suggestions?
Prompt #274: Pick your characters (24)
Pick your characters and let them choose who they would like to meet if they had the chance.
Is it someone who still lives? A long dead king? A famous writer? An infamous politician?

So how's this?
It was in the wee hours when the coyote Terra awoke in her bed with a start. A rare thunderstorm was raging in the middle of the night as the howling wind blew rain against the muscovite panes. Her senses were heightened, knowing that something world-changing was happening though she couldn't tell whether it was right or wrong. Donning her flax nightgown and fastening its squirrel-bone pins, she softly treaded through the cliffside sandstone palace in the city of Pueblosa. She gently opened one of the grand acacia doors to the throne room, gazing upon the pillars lining the path to the throne she had occupied for the last 90 years. She knew she would soon be another one of the semblances of chieftains and chieftesses past carved out of the pillars.
How To Hook Readers (Pt. 1)
What exactly is a hook? A hook is a sentence or scene at the start of your story that grabs your reader’s attention. Most authors believe that your first sentence should be a hook. Here are some techniques you can use when writing the start of your story.
1) Raise questions that your readers NEED to figure out. In my opinion, this is the strongest way to hook readers. The Hunger Games has one of my favorite examples of this. In the very first paragraph, Katniss thinks about how “this is the day of the reaping.”
This mysterious event is unknown to the audience and intrigues them to read on. In short, you want your readers constantly wondering what will happen next. If you keep up this pattern of questions (and eventual answers), you’ll always be feeding your readers a steady flow of curiosity and then satisfaction once you answer the questions.
2) Create mystery surrounding your characters. Don’t reveal everything about them right away. Instead, reveal their secrets, fears, lies, faults, and insecurities slowly. If a character walks with a limp, don’t give away the reason behind it right away. If a king is known to be the most feared in all the realm, drop hints and tease the reason— but reveal the full reason why later on.
3) Have the inciting incident occur as soon as possible. The inciting incident is the event that launches your character into the story— something that changes their lives forever. Katniss volunteers as tribute at the beginning of chapter two, and we feel compelled to read further because her whole life has been uprooted, and we want to know how she will deal with her situation.
4) Create a first line that either confuses, startles, or amazes your reader.
5) Don’t over describe— know what to leave out. While your hook can be unfolding action or a surprise, your hook can also be a mystery. Don’t info-dump or over-explain at the start of your novel. Deliberately leave pieces of information hidden so that your reader’s are hungry to find out the answers.
6) Treat your title as a hook. Some authors will say you need to hook your reader in the first sentence, but really you can start as early as your title. What about your title (or book cover) will cause a passerby to pick it up? Use an intriguing combination of words, or leave them questioning what kind of world is inside the cover.

🍩: Mimic bird meat for both. It essentially tastes like chicken and is a delicacy due to how deadly they can be. It's like us hunting boars to eat them.

🖊️: A little bassarisk is born with the ability to manipulate the fabric of reality and has an overwhelming sense of duty to everyone instead of just his home country. Not everyone is happy about this.
