“Would you rather go back down there with the rats? Listen, I don’t care if you like me or think I’m weird or whatever. But the fact is that I watched that whole confrontation and it seemed off. You didn’t even use a move to try and slow them down, not a Weather Ball or anything.”

“So, I can’t let your little weak ass go on and get yourself and your newborn Mienfoo to get in danger because you don’t know anything. I don;t care if it’s about your pride or something like that but the simple fact is. That you’ll need my help whether you like it or not. So do you really want me to leave, when I know the region very well and may be able to help you out?....”

“.... Fine. But I’m going to sleep. Keep watch or whatever, I don’t care what you do. And then we can get supplies and stuff.”

Hermes plopped down on top of the young Mienfoo, and Raiden didn’t open his mouth again before going off and doing something else. Things have quieted down for the night...

Hermes was quiet as they looked over the edge. The blurry bodies below had the humans have their colours blend together into a mess as they all went about with their lives. They forget that they’re flying over the edge for a moment, before retreating back and taking a breath.

“Heh, scared of heights?”

“I’ve... never been this high up before.”

“Well we’re not gonna be up here for much longer, so prepare yourself while I go and get some supplies and stuff.”

“... you’re really sticking around huh?”

The large Raichu simply smirked down at the Castform, before flying off with some incredible speed. They watched him practically disappear as he weaved between buildings, and they quickly lost track of him. They sighed to themselves. Right. They needed to get ready.

A week had passed, with the three getting settled and gearing up for the journey ahead. Raichu brought Leaf and Hermes down and near the front of a gate.

“So this is the start of Route 4?”

“Yes. We’re going to have to go through the desert to get to Nimbasa City. We’ll have to take a more off beaten path to avoid the trainers, but it shouldn’t take much longer. Sandstorms have gotten less common so that’ll just make it easier.”

“Ba ba!”

“... well. I hope this will actually help or amount to any sort of progress. Are you sure we’re actually going the right way?”

“Of course we are! And it’ll be fine! You worry way too much ya sky puff.”

“I worry just the right amount for someone in my situation...”

“If you had been any closer to the edge, I’m sure you wouldn’t startled yourself even more by accidentally rolling off.”

“Wh... I would’ve been fine! I can float! And why do you have Leaf?”

“He seems to be an early bird, unlike you, and kept going after my tail. Someone’s gotta make sure this literal baby doesn’t just walk off the roof after all. Now c’mon, let’s go get some supplies and stuff. We got a bit of a trek.”

“I think that’s just it’s design. That doesn’t mean it’s any special, it’s probably some sort of coincidence you even found it.”

“I’ve never really known what to do with this whole thing going on honestly, at one point I really was just wandering aimlessly.... I guess I still am. I don’t think I’m looking for anything, but I hope I can find stuff that can help me out if that makes sense. I just wish I had something like a clue.... a memory....”

Hermes looks down and is quiet for a few moments.

“Right now, I should probably get some sleep. I can’t think well when I’m overtired. I think Leaf is about to pass out too.”

“....... i wonder if Raiden even sleeps.... he gives me weird vibes...” They whisper

“You don’t have ANY right to criticize me over being a victim! I am lost, and scared, and confused and I’m taking care of a baby! And then this weird Raichu comes over and randomly helps and I’m FORCED to comply.

So don’t fucking talk to me like you know better because you’re a COWARD who just STEALS things and shit. I thought you just thought it was funny to tease people before, but I had no idea you were an actual dick.

What would you even have done? Filled a protect with a bunch of glitter? Yeah, THAT would’ve helped! Fuck you man!”

“Hmm. Thinking about it is really hard, my head gets fuzzy if I try to dwell for too long. And I tend to get a headache but let’s see”

[ Hermes floats in the air in front of the Grimmsnarl, contemplating to themselves. They seem incredibly focused, and troubled even more so. The moments of silence are only for a few minutes, but quickly get on their nerves. They mumble to themselves and give an unintentional glare to the other Pokemon, but quickly cast it aside. It’s internal towards themselves. ]

“Just.... Arceus damn it!! I don’t know how it feels, like there is a feeling but I can’t remember where to place it! I guess like, it feels as if my entire body is missing, like this isn’t my real body, my true body. Maybe something happened to me? But if I think about it, I get certain sensations, it’s mostly happened if I touched stuff. Like something else should be on my head, swaying in the wind. That instead of water being absorbed into my body, it runs down. I should be way taller. But it’s all such a vague feeling that it’s incredibly frustrating!!”

[ Hermes deflates a bit and gives out a big sigh, closing their eyes ]

“Honestly my biggest worry with this, is it’s all just in my head and I just forgot that I’ve been a Castform the whole time”

“I turn my head for a few seconds...... Anyways, I’m not really much of an advice giver, but I’ll try since I guess I’m in a similar situation? Hmm... Well since the kid has known you for so long, there’s that clear bond there, even if you look different right now. Maybe try calming him down in your own special way. Like humming a song he knows or doing something he likes. Just showing you’re not a threat and that you’re different.”

[ Leaf starts to tear up at his daisy being taken away, and Hermes is visibly slightly nervous at the reaction. They toss the daisy aside as they awkwardly yet gently, take the baby Mienfoo’s hand. ]

“Just try to do what you normally do to calm him down and hopefully that should work? Luckily, you should get back to normal soon so if nothing works, it’ll just sort itself out. I really should go and find like some food and stuff so good luck with your kid, Sirocco.”

[ Hermes does their best to lead the sniffling Mienfoo away from the already distressed pair, trying their best to settle them. It’s not really working. ]

With a snap of the Scrafty’s fingers, the alleyway shook beneath the pitter patter of hundreds of feet.

Suddenly from above, there was a woosh. And then a thud.

Behind the duo, a figure stood in the inky black. The tidal wave of Rattata was simply blown away with the crackle of electricity in the air. Any survivors were left scurrying back into the darkness. The Rat King was nowhere to be found.

The figure stood up straight, and then turned, ascending into the air.

“I mean it’s safer than being down there right, tiny? I’m gonna go look food for your kid he looks pretty hungry.”
